I'm from a country where same sex marriage isn't legal yet. It's not an extremely homophobic country, but a lot of people say stuff like "You already have civil partnership, you can put on a dress and organise a wedding, you just have to sign the civil partnership paper later at the office. What's the big deal, stop being greedy and be grateful for the options you have." And it boils my piss because people simply have no idea what these "options" even are.

Of course I agree that queer people should have the same rights as straight people, the right to a beautiful wedding, to use the same words like marriage and husband and wife. But I also think a lot of people don't understand this is not the main concern. It definitely is when you're not actually trying to get married, because then your concerns are political and social equality, and we need that.

But as a queer who's currently trying to start a family with my SO, my concerns are different. The fact that it has a different name is infuriating, but not nearly as infuriating as the fact that legally it's not the same. It's a piece of paper the government gave us to shut us up, it gives you some protections but doesn't do anything for sharing property or medical rights or children related stuff. Honestly if there was an option "It's gonna be exactly the same as a marriage but we have to call it Blippity Glup", we would be at the office signing our Blippity Glup forms right away.

this might be because I’m a family law lawyer and also an old crone who remembers when marriage equality wasn’t a thing (as in, marriage equality only became nation-wide two months before I went to law school), but I have Strong Feelings about the right to marry and all the legal benefits that come with it

like I’m all for living in sin until someone says they don’t want to get married because it’s ~too permanent~ and in the same breath start talking about having kids or buying a house with their significant other. then I turn into a 90-year-old passive-aggressive church grandma who keeps pointedly asking when the wedding is. “yes, a divorce is very sad and stressful, but so is BEING HOMELESS BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT ENTITLED TO EQUITABLE DISTRIBUTION OF MARITAL PROPERTY, CAROLINE!”

There are a lot of races like these they're all over the world and there's a bunch of cannonballs and really they're just rallies they're not races. I'm winning races and presenting the vehicle he's coming off his classy very fast and very spartan and they kind of like it. They're very tired while they do dads they don't use most of them and they're in the way and they messed the car up a little or completely and they usually take them out but that was you don't have to and it comes fast to begin with. Not making any of their cars it's very rude with the same and it'll be good time to take over the whole industry you're a bunch of jerks in it and we need to limit it so.
