#I just don’t think there are many positives found at the diaz house

I’ve been pondering on why everyone is so attached to burning down bucks loft and the Diaz house being this amazing place that needs to be there when Eddie and Chris return to LA from El Paso.
I personally think that’s really bad idea and a rather cruel punishment to subject Chris and Eddie (and Buck as well!) to.
Because that house is actually cursed and doesn’t really have that many great memories/ scenes attached to it.
Bucks loft is actually a far more positive place than the diaz house is.
Think about it - the only negatives the loft has got attached to it is the Tommy break up, Taylor living there (although I would argue that not pall of that was bad - it taught Buck a lot and got him to break off a bad relationship) the sperm donor baby (I guess if you want to view it as a negative - im kinda on the fence with it tbh as I think buck still views it as a good thing he did!) and technically an association with bucks death as part of his coma dream took place there (but again that was a positive part of his coma dream).
There are a huge number of positive and important developments attached to the loft - that far outweigh the negatives - it’s the place Chris views as a safe space - he ran there to Buck and has spent a lot of time 1:1 with Buck and a lot of them Buckley-Diaz family unit development has been in the loft - including post tsunami. It’s where most of the big buck and Eddie conversations have happened. It’s where buck figured out he was bi.
Meanwhile the diaz house is very much connected to Eddie’s breakdown, Shannon reappearing and then leaving and dying, her ghost is ever present in the house. It’s connected to Kim and that is the biggest tarnishing factor for Chris - why would he ever want to return to a house that made him think his mom was alive again and broke the comfort and safety he felt in that space? Not to mention the Ana of it all and the moving Marisol in and out, and then there’s Eddie’s breakdown and the shooting is connected to that house because Chris had to deal with his dad not coming home that night, he also had to stay there without his dad during lockdown. The moments of joy or positivity in the house are far rarer and smaller when they have happened - small family building moments like buck and Chris playing computer games or doing homework etc.
So why would we want the Diaz boys to return to that house? Why would we want Buck to move in there? I personally am of the opinion that the loft is a good landing place for their return because it’s been a safe space for both Chris and Eddie, with a view to them finding a new house - one where they can all start a fresh and build a new life without any of the baggage of the Diaz house and with the proper space for a family to build a life together in (because the loft is not that - not by a long way - but it is good to be a temporary return spot!).
So yeah I’m very much on team Diaz couch is the couch, but very much not part of team Diaz house being the house we should be sad about saying goodbye to!
#this has been rotating around in my brain since the end of s7!#I just don’t think there are many positives found at the diaz house#and hell Chris may be in part resistant to engaging with his dad and wanting to come home because of the trauma attached to that house#and I don’t blame him for that tbh - it’s the house he associates with the loss of his mom - twice - her ghost is literally lurking there#the only way they can truly be free of Shannon is to not be in that house any more ( none of the girlfriends stood a chance in that house#let’s be real!) Buck is literally the only one outside of Eddie and Chris who is able to occupy the spaces she does#not to mention there’s something about that house and it’s representing heteronormativity#so Eddie leaving it means he can begin to escape that and embrace his queerness!#but yeah the diaz house is full of trauma - so let’s say goodbye to it when Eddie leaves and be excited for them getting a fresh start in a#new house when the return!#and bucks loft is a place of growth - for each of the three of them - it’s a safe space and the bad stuff that we’ve seen there isn’t really#all that bad - it’s helped them all grow!#I am pro loft and anti diaz house - and if that puts me in the minority - then I am ok with that!#911 abc#911 on abc#eddie diaz#evan buckley#christopher diaz#buddie#bucks loft#the diaz house#911 spoilers#- sort of I guess!#Thinky thoughts!#evan buck buckely#buckley diaz family

Hi Girl,
I’ve literally just come back from work but I’ve been thinking about you all day none stop and felt like I had to get this out, I want to thank you for your stories and your art as it never fails to amaze me. It’s artistically beautiful the way you write these characters being in love with their respective black love interests. Growing up as a bookworm, I found it impossible to find stories or especially fics that have black love interests not written in specific ways. However, you manage to achieve this so naturally and make it heartwarming to be seen as a possible love interests to characters that we’ve either fell in love with or thirsted over. I just finished Stereo Love and your Saltburn fic and both are just written in a way where it’s obvious the main character is the centre of her love interests world and that she truly is the epitome of beauty to them. Growing up, it’s been hard for many black girls (including myself) to feel desired and loved romantically, so thank you truly and I so can’t wait for what you have in store for us. Most importantly, looking after yourself is the most important so just know we your fans truly have the best interests for you in terms of treating yourself kindly. All the best lovely, I thought I would just give my two cents.
PS: do you mind giving your top ten male crushes (they can be fictional, from television or movies) and these can be current or like childhood crushes?!
Lots of love- 🐜
Honestly, this love and appreciation is making me cry. The type of support I’m receiving today is amazing and very heart warming. I try to write my characters as authentic and true to not just me to black readers, black girls and women. Growing up being black wasn’t as popular or glamorous as people showcasing today and I’m glad our people are being made to feel like themselves in spaces where we’re usually ostracised, so I’m glad that these stories speak to or help people. When I write my OCs I like to write them as desired, or loved, considering the lack of roles for black women in shows/films/books where we are seen in such a way.
After understanding the love interests (Felix Catton and Brian O’Conner) and how they view their respected partners I find it easier to insert my OC, of course I have to acknowledge the role of their race before hand whether it’s subtle or integral to the plot of my stories or canon.
At first when I started writing I didn’t know which part of the black experience to include, without bringing people out of their “fantasy”. Many people equate blackness with struggle or negativity, when there are so many positive and popular things we do whether it’s our hair, our style, our music or just us overall especially in the eras these films were set in/ released (early 2000s)
I’m glad you’re enjoying my stories, the next one I’m publishing is a House of The Dragon book, hope you’re interested. And I also hope you’re taking care of yourself as I try to. I’m so blessed to have this comment honestly as well as fans like you!
And atm for my TOP TEN MALE crushes (fictional/non fictional):
1. Jon Snow. Kit Harrington this role… I can’t get over his season 6 appearance. Most Targaryen men are good looking and yes people still say he’s a stark, which he is but damn, he’s something else.
2. Xolo Maridueña (Miguel Diaz from CK) love the actor in the show, he’s fine as hell especially with his longer hair and is thankfully older than me.
3. Damson Idris. Stunning, great smile, talented too!
4. Cillian Murphy. Must I explain this one?
5. Dylan O’brien. ALWAYS I just hope he doesn’t do some bs and let me down.
6. Brian O’Conner (specifically in the first and second films)
7. Kingsley Ben Adir. This man is just tall and fine.
8. Zayn. Been rocking with him since 2011 and his amazing voice.
9. Hector Bellerin. Just like Zayn, they’re fine men. And even though I don’t watch football, I watch his clips and that’s enough.
10. Lando Johnson. I only watch clips of All American Homecoming, I watched the original show up until season 3 and won’t start watching the spin off until I find out Simone ends up with Lando and his beautiful self.
This list took me a WHILE, especially for top 1, but I landed on Jon Snow, because how he is with a sword, his hair and how everyone in Westeros calls him pretty. Plus I did write a story for him a while ago, which I want to add to or change up in the future.

Sending you all my hugs 🥰🥰🥰😍 How about...Buddie having the time of their lives being absolute shit at arcade games.
I remember I asked for fluffy prompts the night my boss passed away. That was months ago but I did not forget. Thank you everyone who sent me prompts while I was processing some tough emotions.

1v1 Co-op Matchmaking
Read on Ao3
“Are you sure this is the place?” Eddie tried to peer through one of the windows with the scratched off signage but the tinted glass made it impossible to see anything beyond vague shapes in evenly marked spaces.
“Absolutely.” Buck joined him in looking through the glass but seemed to be satisfied with what he saw there. “I found this place my first year in L.A.” He went on to explain as Eddie followed him to the blacked out double doors. “I promise you’re going to love it.”
As with most things in Eddie’s life, he had no choice but to follow his partner. He entered first, a blast of cool air hitting his face, bringing with it the scent of French fries and old pennies. Beyond the sound of whirs and buzzes was quiet chatter and the occasional exclamation of excitement or disappointment (usually accompanied by a string of barely recognizable curses – no doubt, due to the ‘No Swearing’ sign hanging on the cash register in the corner). All around him were a collection of game machines in nearly straight aisles reaching several rows down and across. Interspersed between the machines were tables and chairs with folded signs informing guests that food and drinks were not to be taken to the game machines.
“It’s an arcade.” Eddie dumbly informed his friend.
Buck stood beside him, chest puffed with pride as he examined the terrain. “One of the last in the city that hasn’t been overrun by hipsters.”
“So you’re saying you found this place before it was cool?” Eddie strolled towards the register knowing Buck would be glaring at him all the way. As predicted, Buck paid for both of them and converted twenty dollars into quarters for the two of them two split.
“Oh, this place is old school.” Eddie, once again, exclaimed the obvious while pocketing his share of the coins. “How did you find this place?” he asked as they wandered the aisles looking for their first game. “I didn’t think you would be old enough to remember ‘Ms. Pacman’.”
Buck bumped his shoulder with a playful gasp. “You are being so mean to me today.” He chided before falling more somber. “When I first moved here and started training, I needed a place to study. I had, like, six roommates so there was no way I could concentrate there. So, I wandered around looking for something a little less chaotic and I found this place.”
“And this place was quieter than your house?” Eddie hadn’t lived with roommates in a few years – not since his army days – but he couldn’t imagine one house being that overwhelming.
“No.” Buck rolled his eyes at Eddie’s internal monologue. “I ended up at the library a few blocks away. But I came here once or twice when I needed to get out of the house. Obviously, work keeps me pretty busy, but I like coming here from time to time.”
All of it made sense, but Eddie heard the softness in his friend’s tone, the way he spoke about this place as though it were something precious. He was being handed a gift and he would not turn it down.
“Thank you for sharing it with me.” When Buck looked up at his partner through long eyelashes (when did he start noticing Buck’s eyelashes?), Eddie felt goosebumps rise and wash down his body. Like awakening from a long nap, his limbs tingled and he felt every step as they continued their journey to find the perfect game.
It wasn’t the first time he felt that flash of lightning through his veins at the sight of his friend – he was a single man and his partner was very attractive – but it had been happening more often than he cared to admit. Noticing the little details of Buck’s appearance (his eyelashes, for example) was new. Feeling his heart beat faster and his skin burn with a desire he hadn’t felt in a long time…was less new. In fact, Eddie was nearly ready to put a label on the feelings stirring in his chest.
Last winter, when his sisters were visiting and the three siblings got to have a big family dinner with all the cousins and aunts and uncles, he’d spent a little too long talking about Buck. Or, maybe, Christopher had. Either way, Sophia managed to corner him in the kitchen after dessert had knocked out the majority of the children, and asked Eddie how long he’d been with Buck. Romantically. It was sometime after midnight (and a bottle of wine between the three of them) that Eddie finally admitted to both of his sisters that he had feelings for his best friend. Adriana had cooed and asked if Buck felt the same and, on some tipsy instinct, he’d answered “Yes.”
Of course, he didn’t know for certain – he’d never come out and said “Hey, Buck, I want to bend you over the railing and then grow old with you. What do you say?” – but he knew Buck. He knew Buck better than anyone (Maddie might give him a run for his money, but he’s fairly certain there’s a few stories Buck hasn’t told his sister about his time travelling the country). When that man loved, he loved with all his heart, and Eddie figured out a long time ago that Buck had given at least part of himself to the Diaz boys. Why not his heart?
So, yes, Eddie had a pretty good idea of how he felt, and was nearly certain that Buck felt the same way. And now, they were standing in an arcade – the location of which Buck hadn’t shared with anyone else in his life – occasionally making extended eye contact through the aisles. It wasn’t a matter of ‘if’. It was a matter of ‘when’.
So now, when not staring longingly into his friend’s eyes, Eddie scanned the names listed above each game. Some of the names were ones he recognized (‘Frogger’, ‘Pacman’, the aforementioned ‘Ms. Pacman’, ‘Centipede’). Others, were less familiar (‘Inferno’, ‘Dig Dug’, ‘1942’) and looked…confusing. His eye caught on a ‘Space Invaders’-looking game and he called his partner to his side.
“Want to be a member of the ‘Moon Patrol’?” He bumped Buck’s shoulder with the smile he reserved just for his friend, and dug for a quarter.
“Nope!” Buck declared as he retrieved his own quarter and inserted it into the appropriate slot, bumping Eddie out of the way so he could stand centered at the controls. “I call first game!”
Though he rolled his eyes in annoyance, Eddie took the loss as an opportunity to watch his partner work. He loved watching Buck work (nearly as much as he enjoyed working beside him). There were times when the man’s focus was hypnotizing. The firm set of his jaw, the piercing eyes that seemed unblinking, the way every part of his body tensed in concentration. He’d seen Buck excited, anxious, worried, panicked, even numb – when it came to the uncontrollable dangers of their job, they had been through a lot together. Every emotion showed Eddie how much his friend cared about his work.
This expression, however, was one he doubted many other members of the Los Angeles Fire Department had seen on the young firefighter. It was one Eddie had been privy to on more than one occasion when Christopher had brought over a particularly difficult puzzle or science question. He wasn’t sure he was ever meant to see it but he happened to be standing in the doorway after putting away leftovers from dinner and he’d seen it: the desire to win, the earnest focus, the eagerness and seriousness of his intent. The first time he saw, it was an accident. Every other time he rushed to finish his chores whenever he thought that face might emerge… that was less of an accident.
He was pulled from his fond musings by a minor key jingle and light-hearted groan of disappointment.
“Only got to Point Q on the Champion Course.” Buck exclaimed, throwing his hands in defeat.
Eddie couldn’t help himself – or at least, that’s what he told himself. His partner was too genuine. But that was one of his favourite things about the man. Where Eddie could usually keep his outward appearance neutral in the face of adversity (a skill he’d used nearly every day since joining the LAFD), Buck never shied away from letting his face show just exactly what was on his mind – even if he never said anything.
And so, Eddie laughed. Only a small chuckle, but his heart never felt so light as when he was with Buck. It was easy to see, however, that his laugh could be misconstrued as mocking. Perhaps it was both.
“Think you can do better?” The newly-defeated champion bowed and offered the center position to his friend and Eddie stepped into place with another fond eyeroll (he made a mental note to ask his optometrist if too many eyerolls could cause nerve damage).
All right, Eddie thought as he tried to get a handle on the controls, so it wasn’t as easy as he thought. The joystick was rigid and the control pad was sticky and the graphics were definitely from an era long-passed. If he hadn’t been raised with an infinite amount of patience (according to his aunt), he might have given up. As it was, he died before reaching the first checkpoint.
Buck’s laughter could not be interpreted as anything other than mocking, and he didn’t bother to hide it. “You are truly terrible.” He informed Eddie with a slap on the shoulder.
Though he knew he didn’t need an excuse, it was too easy to play when Buck was around. “I’m used to the console at home. Unlike some people, I don’t spend my time playing with technology from the Reagan-era.”
“Well then let me show you.” Before Eddie could properly interpret Buck’s offer, the man had come to stand behind him, chin hovering over his shoulder, arms palming his elbows and guiding him back towards the console. “One more round.” Buck declared, enthusiastically. At his prompting, Eddie gripped the joystick and placed his hands just above the cluster of buttons on his left side. The now-familiar starting music began and Eddie focused all of his energy into game before him. Every few moments, he heard Buck mutter a command or offer advice and he took it without question. The joystick was still rigid and the buttons were still sticky but together, they made it to the second checkpoint. And then the third. By the fourth, Eddie had all but forgotten the world around them. The only things that existed were Eddie, the game, and Buck’s voice in his ear. It was soothing, almost, to fall into that rhythm. So long as he navigated the bumpy terrain and dodged the alien invasion, nothing else mattered.
Until he missed jumping over a landmine and was blown to smithereens.
“Damn!” Buck’s voice was suddenly too close. The air around him electrified on an exhale and the heat of his chest warmed Eddie to his core. As quickly as the world had fallen away in Buck’s arms, it came rushing back, more vibrant and alive than before. Every sound of electronics whirring, Buck’s steady breathing, and people shouting – even the rumble of the cars outside the arcade – was amplified. Every smell of old metal, sweat, and smoke hidden under Buck’s aftershave was overwhelming. Every touch of his scratchy jeans, the clammy plastic in his hand, and the warm presence at his back, made Eddie close his eyes to shut out one of his senses. The only one left was taste.
Buck and Eddie had held each other plenty of times over the years. They were partners and friends who worked in close contact with one another. At the end of a hard day, in the middle of a daring rescue, at the beginning of a heated glance as they stood in front of a game machine. They had shaken hands, hugged tightly, gripped for dear life at the edge of a cliff, even bumped shoulders often enough that he had a Buck-shaped indent near his heart. But standing in this loose hold – the other man’s arms barely brushing his, his back pressed against the other’s front – Eddie had never felt the overwhelming urge to taste more fervently than he did in that moment.
He knew that Buck was an attractive man – he was repressed, he wasn’t dead – and though he’d been contemplating thinking about maybe working up to taking some next step, he hadn’t counted on standing in Buck’s arms and feeling his heart flutter like a school girl with a crush.
Upon slowly dragging his eyes to meet his friend’s Eddie found himself breathlessly overtaken by the sensation of hope. Buck’s eyes were bright and round (earnest, just as he’d known them to be) His eyelashes closed and opened slowly, seemingly disbelieving of his circumstance. If Eddie knew Buck as well as he hoped he did, then there was a question in his friend’s eyes that was begging to be asked. A question Eddie was more than happy to answer.
“We make a pretty good team.” He felt his own breath reverberate off of Buck’s cheek and it stuttered in time with his heart.
“I’ve always thought so.” Buck’s lips twitched with suppressing a smile.
Then, came the moment of truth. Eddie felt a brief flicker of panic as he took one last breath before diving in.
“What should we do about it?”
In reality, Buck only contemplated his response for a few seconds but for Eddie, the silence stretched for years – three years, in fact. He felt the world move in slow motion and within it, he watched as Buck’s face flicked with a thousand emotions: fear, anxiety, excitement, contentment, desire, hope, doubt; finally, he settled on quiet happiness.
“I think we need to find a game we can play together. As partners. What do you say?”
As if there were any other response, Eddie smiled at Buck. “Partners.”
The rest of their time at the arcade was locked away, inaccessible to even Eddie, who recalled nothing more than laughter and flirtatious eye contact as they made their way through the aisles of games. At the end of the night, Eddie would get down the block before turning back to Buck’s door. He would run a nervous hand through his hair while he knocked with the other, and waited for the answer. And then, he would blush as he asked if Buck wanted to go on a date with him tomorrow. Buck would blush harder and assure Eddie that he would happily attend, but warn that he no longer kissed on the first date.
But maybe on their second date tomorrow, he’d get lucky.

His Treasures - Oscar “Spooky” Diaz
Pairing: Oscar “Spooky” Diaz x reader
Requested: Yes.
Prompts: None.
Warnings/notes: Some angst! This doesn’t follow the original plot of the series. Instead of getting rid of Cuchillos in season 3, Oscar deals with it during the time of Cesar’s alienation. This is not proofread so I apologize in advance for any possible mistakes. Please leave some love and let me know what you think xx
Wordcount: 2584
Summary: You find out that you’re pregnant during the whole drama with Cesar and Oscar isn’t very thrilled about the timing.
Oscar was struggling, big time. Not only with keeping the Santos together, but with his personal life and his entire identity.
He was beginning to question everything he had ever known, partly because he was being forced to push his own brother away, putting him on the streets, but also because you made him feel like he was worth better by constantly and blindly believing in him and his potential.
Before he had met you, his life had been so simple. All he had to worry about back then was the Santos and to have food on the table for his little brother. But now… he wanted to make you happy, whatever it took.
It scared him. The lengths he would go to in order to make sure you were safe and comfortable was terrifying, because he knew it was something that raised eyebrows and suspicions in the gang, more specifically in the higher rankings.
Cuchillos had questioned him about you on more than one occasion, wondering how far he would go to keep you safe.
Would he try to leave the Santos? Would he turn on her? Try to kill her? He declined every question, of course, swearing his loyalty to the Santos. To a start, his claims had been true. He would do anything for Los Santos. They were his family.
But now you were his family, too, and it put him in an extremely difficult spot.
Things were already tense as they were with Cesar having the Prophets on his ass so to say the timing was bad when you found out you were pregnant was a big understatement, and it was safe to say Oscar wasn’t too thrilled about the big news.
“I can’t have a baby right now.” He shook his head, pulling a hand over his mouth and chin as he paced in front of you where you sat on the couch in his living room, a positive pregnancy test grasped tightly in your hands. “Things would get too complicated.”
“All this love shit is complicated.” You scoffed, putting the test down on the coffee table and standing up from your seat.
“But that’s good, and you know why?” You questioned, walking over to him where he had now stopped. “Because if it’s too simple, you’ve got no reason to try, nothing to fight for. And if you don’t have a reason to try, you don’t.”
He glared down at you, his entire posture rigid and his face screwed up with anger. “It’s too risky!” He exclaimed, but rather than getting scared, you met his glare with one of your own.
“Everything is a risk. Not doing anything is a risk.” You protested. “I know bringing a child into the world will make things difficult for you but you can’t always wait for the perfect time. Sometimes, you have to dare to do it because life is too short to wonder what could have been.”
He turned his head to the side, an angry breath escaping his nose. Your face softened and carefully, you raised your hands up to grab his face, turning it right back toward you.
His fierce eyes met your pleading ones, but no matter how angry and confused he was, he allowed you to bend his head down to yours, standing still as you pressed your lips to his in a chaste, feather light kiss.
You held the kiss for a few seconds and then pulled away, leaning your forehead against his and staring pleadingly into his eyes.
“I’m not going to wonder what could have been, Oscar.” You told him sadly. “I’m keeping this baby, our baby, with or without you. I’ve made my choice and now you get to make yours. Don’t do to our baby what your dad did to you, please. Please, baby.”
He closed his eyes for a moment, leaning into your touch as you caressed his cheeks. Unbeknownst to you, his heart was almost beating out of his chest right at that moment.
Now more than ever, he was terrified of what he would do for you, or more specifically, what the price would be to pay.
But before he could get too drunk on your touch, he tore his head out of your grasp and opened his eyes, taking a step back.
“Go home.” The words seemed to leave his lips so easily, you swore you could feel your heart breaking into a million little pieces right then and there.
Your stomach churned and you felt like you were going to throw up as the desperation settled in. “Please, Oscar. Don’t do this.” You pleaded, tears starting to build up in your eyes at a rapid pace.
But he only turned his head to the side, staring at the pregnancy test laying on the table for a few seconds, before turning on his heel and heading in the direction of his bedroom.
You took a step forward to follow but before you could get far, the door had already slammed shut behind him, the sound of the lock turning reaching your ears only a second later and officially killing any heart activity you had left.
Your chest was hurting to the point where you actually thought you were going to die as you walked home, your head dizzy, body hot and tears stinging your eyes.
The second you got home, you locked yourself into your room, ignoring the worried calls of your mother from behind the door, silently crying yourself to sleep.
Back at the Diaz residence, Oscar was nursing a beer where he sat on the couch, the small pregnancy test held tightly in his shaking hand. The plus sign on the small screen was taunting him, and no matter how hard it would be, he knew what he had to do.
Almost a week passed and you hadn’t left your bed during that entire time. You hadn’t received a single call or text from Oscar and you were beginning to come to terms with the fact that you were going to raise your child on your own.
At the same time, you worried that maybe, just maybe, something had happened to him, and that this was the reason for his absence. Either way, you were anxious.
You were heartbroken beyond belief, hurting more than you ever thought was possible, but at least you had your mother. She hadn’t left your side the entire week, trying her very best to get you to eat and drink at least three times a day.
You didn’t want to, of course. It was known that one of the many side effects of heartbreak was the intense lack of appetite. But you knew you had to. Not for you, but for the life growing inside you; for yours and Oscar’s unborn baby.
“Have you tried calling him?” Your mother asked quietly from the doorway of your room, her voice cutting through the thick silent air.
Your eyes didn’t flicker from the ceiling for as much as a second, your lips moving entirely on their own by now. “No, and I’m not going to.”
Taking a shaky breath, you blinked away the tears that were once again building up in your eyes. “I gave him a choice and he made it.”
“Mija…”
“No, mama!” You reacted immediately, sitting yourself up in your bed and letting your glare meet your mother’s soft gaze. “I won’t beg someone to love me or stay with me. I am too good to chase someone who does not know my worth and acknowledge my value. If he doesn’t want to be in my life… If he doesn’t want to be in our lives, then we don’t want him either. I can do this on my own.”
Your mother nodded her head, smiling sadly. “I know you can, mija.” She agreed and walked over to your bed. Her hand rested at the back of your head, fingers running over your hair soothingly as her lips made contact with your forehead.
“I love you.” Your mother’s voice was soft and heavy with sadness, the older woman hurting with her daughter as she had been in the exact same position when she was pregnant with you.
But if anything, that only showed how strong the women in your family were, and that you would be just as great of a mother as yours had been to you.
As your mother left you alone once again, you slowly fell back onto the bed, the waterworks taking off in no time.
You were amazed that you still had any tears left to cry with the way you had been crying non-stop for seven days, but didn’t get much time to wonder as you cried yourself to sleep for what seemed to be the hundredth time.
You weren’t sure how long you were asleep for but when you woke up again, the soft rays of sunlight that had been streaming through the gaps of your blinds were gone, your bedroom now pitch black.
It took a minute for you to regain your senses as you awoke, but you soon managed to process your whereabouts and also the source of your awakening.
Your body instantly reacted, sitting up abruptly as your eyes locked with Oscar’s where he sat beside your bed.
It was dark and you couldn’t see his facial features, only the slight glimmer of his eye, but you could recognize the stature of his body any day.
“How did you get in here?” You asked, eyes narrowing slightly.
It was sort of a stupid question. You didn’t exactly have the house on lockdown so it wouldn’t have been hard for him to just waltz through the front door.
But all logic was momentarily erased from your head at that moment. You were barely even able to form a coherent thought as a flurry of emotions fought their way through your mind and body.
Oscar looked at you calmly, his elbows resting on his knees. “Your mother let me in.” He informed you. “After she hit me in the head with her slipper and called me a pendejo.”
In any other situation, that’s something you would have found extremely funny and probably would have laughed out loud at, but now you only stared at him, your chest heaving up and down in rapid and ragged motions and your heartbeat rising to your ears.
You couldn’t even believe that he was trying to joke the situation away, after not reaching out to you for an entire week after finding out you were carrying his child.
The air turned thick with silence again, the glare on your face only intensified by the second and Oscar looked down into the floor, ashamed.
“I’m sorry.” He broke the silence then, and that’s when you finally snapped.
“Where the fuck have you been, Oscar?!” You yelled, but you got no reply.
Instead, he wordlessly reached his hand out and flipped the switch of the lamp standing on your nightside table, and it was only then you noticed the cuts and bruises littered all over his face, neck and the parts of his upper body that weren’t hidden behind his black tank top.
A gasp left your lips, the anger melting right off and worry immediately bubbling up in your stomach. You hurried to throw back your duvet and turn your legs over the edge of the bed, standing up on your feet going over to him.
“What happened?” You whispered, your hands grabbing his jaw and beginning to twist his head around to get a better look of the damage out of pure instinct.
He avoided your eyes but melted into your touch. Never had it felt as good, as comforting, as it did now.
While you continued to inspect his injuries, your heart turning heavier in your chest for every cut or bruise you laid eyes on, he slowly reached into the pocket of his shorts, pulling out the pregnancy test you had left at his house.
You watched with emotional eyes as he put the stick of plastic on your nightside table, before moving your eyes to his and finding that he was already looking at you.
“I took care of Cuchillos. She’s gone.” He finally told you, and you felt every drop of blood run still in your veins with fear at her name.
Before you could say anything, however, you felt his hands on your stomach. His fingers slid under your shirt with ease, rough fingers brushing over the soft skin and spreading warmth through your entire body.
“I couldn’t let you and our baby living in danger and as long as she called the shots, you would have been in danger every day.” He talked, looking up at you through swollen eyes. Your hands slowly found their way to the back of his head, your fingers beginning to caress the skin. “She saw that you were making me soft and she didn’t like it. She wanted me to get rid of you and I know that if I didn’t, she would have done it for me.”
“But you didn’t.” You whispered, a crease forming between your eyebrows as you thought deeply. “You got rid of her instead.”
He nodded and you sat back down on the edge of your bed slowly. One of his hands instantly found its way to your cheek.
“I would chose you over anyone and anything, even los Santos.” He mumbled, leaning in closer to your face and scanning your face. “You’re my family now. You have been since we first met and she didn’t like it.”
Your lip wobbled at his words, your eyes starting to burn as a fresh set of tears started forming. “I thought you left.” You whispered, your voice barely even audible.
But he heard you, as clear as day. “You really thought I would abandon my own baby?” He asked, his voice cold and defensive.
“For a moment there, yeah, I did.” You admitted, seeing no point in hiding the truth.
He swallowed, eyes hard and lips pulled into a tight line. He was hurt by your words, you knew it, but still, he only nodded, knowing that he deserved it and that you had every right to doubt him.
A tear rolled down your cheek. “I was so worried.” You cried, shaking your head. “You have to promise me never to scare me like that again. Never.”
He pressed his forehead against yours. “I promise.” He agreed. “I’m here now, mamas. Imma take care of you, and our baby.”
You smiled through your tears, your lover lip still quivering as his eyes left yours and instead landed on your belly against which his hand was now flatly pressed.
“Son mi vida.” He spoke, caressing your belly with his fingers and looking back up into your eyes, his hand cradling your jaw. “Mis tesoros.”
He looked at you with such admiration, had you been standing up, your knees would have for sure turned to jelly right underneath you. It caused a hot flush to go through your body and your previously broken heart to glue itself back together and swell in your chest.
You could see it in his eyes that he was still stressed and tense about everything that had just gone down and that he was scared of what was to come, but you knew that he had finally made up his mind about what he wanted to make of himself and you knew that he would do anything in his power to keep you and your family safe.
Like he said, you were his treasures, and no one or nothing would ever take that away from him.

Gato Fuera de la Bolsa
First time I have tried something like this! Hope you like it!
Here’s a One - Shot as per request:
The reader is Ruby’s older sister and she’s secretly dating Oscar and like Ruby, Jamal, Cesar, Monse find out
The Core 4 sat crowded together on the couch while Mario spilled his cross faded wisdom. You’d come in later for the rant apparently, pulling off your shoes from work you threw a ‘sorry’ glance at the kids on the couch.
“Yes he’s high” Mario was saying, “On life, memories, and some seriously good indo,” chuckling to himself, “What I was saying? Work hard, put your heart out there, even if its broken by some bitch you’ve known since Mr. Estrada’s seventh grade Social Studies!” His voice raised as he got heated.
Grabbing your shoes to cart off to your room and ambled down the hallway, drowning out the, very likely very terrible, advice of your twin brother. If you’d stuck around there you might have realized that his advice was not only sound for the young freshman, but the heart of it was to. It was an end of an era and a start to something new.
________________________________________________________________
Despite being twins, Mario and you were very different. You liked to think that high, lighthearted quality was something you shared but in all honesty he had that skill in spades and yours was situational. He could joke through anything. He also loved all things social. That was probably the reason he went to Berkley at all, he wasn’t very good at it. You supposed that’s how he ended up back in your house with Amber. Well it probably explained a lot about the whole Amber situation.
You were much more reserved and cautious, while Mario believed everyone loved him from the start, you believed that you knew who loved you and that anyone else probably didn’t. It had come as a huge shock when ‘THE Santo’ had come to visit you more days than he didn’t, on purpose and even more so when he’d taken you on date after date until you were quite clearly the only woman he had time for.
“Hi! You look like you need an ice cream, what can I get ya?” You’d asked the man standing on the other side of the window.
“Don’t I know you?” He’d asked instead of giving his order eyebrows arched in question.
“Freeridge” you’d answered, giving him little finger guns, “Mario’s my twin, everybody knows him better.”
The man nodded in response. “Uh, chocolate milkshake, large” he ordered after a pause.
“Sure thing!” You’d wandered off into the shop to get the milkshake. When you came back you gave him a big smile, “Or I’m Ruby’s sister. He and Cesar have been inseparable. Most days they are all at the house.”
Oscar, now identified had nodded and taken off down the beach.
What you hadn’t known at the time was that Oscar had made his way back towards the shop and was watching to see when you got off work. As you had waved goodbye to your coworkers, he’d positioned himself so you’d have to run into him again.
Smiling when you caught his eye you’d walked up, “You’re still here,” you had said shielding your eyes from the sun “need a ride to Freedrige? I’m going back soon.”
He shook his head, looking up at you, “Nah, I’m going to stay here a while,” he paused, “So you see Cesar a lot?”
“Oh yeah, he practically lives with us, they all do.”
“How’s he doing” he asked.
You looked out across the water thinking, “Uh he’s ok. He seems to do good in school, he’s smart as a whip, he and Monse spend an awful lot of time together when no one else is around, but he’s got it together.” You smiled, seeming to know that he wanted comfort that Cesar was OK before he saw him next.
You debated whether or not to tell the next part. “Out with it” Oscar had demanded.
You were startled, how had he known what you were thinking? “I’m uh, pretty sure he’s mad at you.” You said, then quickly added, “Well I don’t know, but he seems mad at the situation maybe, but he’s not always nice,” you shrugged. Oscar nodded slowly running his hand over his mouth and down his chin. “You sure you don’t want a ride?”
Oscar shook his head this time. Just as you turned to leave he called out, “Hey, you’re not just Mario or Ruby’s sister, you must have a name, what is it?”
“Y/N. See you later Oscar.”
Life had only gotten more crazy since then, Ruby and Olivia had been shot, Olivia died, Ruby was still going through bouts of PTSD, Mario moved back in with his baby momma who wasn’t his baby momma, Cesar had been jumped into a gang and then forced to live on the street and your madre wouldn’t so much as look at him in town, Monse had come back from writing came a new woman, found her mom, shattered Cesar’s heart and her own, returned to Freeridge, Jamal had been especially cagey about something and gotten in major trouble for destruction of property, and you, well you had started dating Oscar.
You’d seen him around town and each time smiled at him. You knew he and Mario got along well and Cesar and Ruby were good friends. You still weren’t sure what that patch over the summer where Ruby and Cesar hadn’t gotten along was about but it didn’t really matter. The Core 4 was back together again.
More than around town though, you and Oscar saw each other at the beach. The other girls who worked there noticed it before you, but Oscar would come and order, only from your window, usually not too long before you’d gotten out of work. Things had gotten especially tight at home for money lately with Ruby’s hospital bills and you were trying to help you anyway you could. You worked more hours and almost every day of the week and Oscar was there almost all of them.
You and Oscar had a routine, talk about Cesar, talk about Ruby, but as time went on and your biweekly chats turned to weekly, and then your weekly chats turned to a few days a week, the topics of conversation broadened. And the jokes and lightheartedness, seemed to flow as easily as if Oscar were your own family.
You’d talked a lot about what kept you both in Freeridge and why your families mattered so much. You’d shared the little things you did to help out. Like, in your case, your parents refused to take any money from you so instead you’d do things like buy some extra flour and make sure there was always an extra bag in the back of the pantry somewhere. Things that people might not notice themselves and be glad they’d “thought to buy extra”. Or fill the cereal up a little bit each day so that no one noticed when the next person came along to eat some. Oscar had laughed at you that it was a lot of effort to go to hide your good will. You’d simply shrugged and replied that even the small things would help.
It was that kind of thankless existence that Oscar had been so curious about and he became determined to make sure you were thanked and knew you were great. He wanted you to feel worthy of the same attention that you gave to other members of your family.
You were currently lounging around Oscar’s house in his flannel and a pair of jeans. Somehow despite the warm weather outside, you were always cold blooded enough to wear a long sleeve inside. Oscar didn’t protest, nor would he admit that he wore them the day after you did just because they smelled like you.
You never could sleep over for fear of someone at your house finding out, but that didn’t stop you from pretending you had things to do before work so you could go over to Oscar’s first thing in the morning. You’d gotten to the house when it was just barely light, the sky thin and almost transparent in the morning. Oscar was in bed still snoring away, so you’d climbed in and falled back asleep yourself.
A few hours later you awoke to his strong arm pulling you to him and snaking itself beneath you. In his deep, husky, not quite awake voice, greated you. “Buenas diaz, mi amor” smiling to show his dimples.
“Buenas diaz” you scoffed, blinking in the now bright light, “buenas noches is more like it, what are you going to sleep all day” you teased.
Pecking kisses across your forehead you felt his chuckle more than heard it, “Only with you”.
You’d stayed in bed that way talking about the night before until it became apparent that the morning must get started. Oscar got up first and as his warmth left with him you’d whimpered a little.
This was not a new routine and so without another word, Oscar threw the flannel leaning over the chair towards the bed and made his way into the rest of the house. Oscar hadn’t needed to do anything in particular for the day so you’d spent most of it just hanging out around the house. Unfortunately, the two of you either had to go out of town or stay indoors if you wanted to spend time together.
There were too many risks associated with being seen together. And truly, you’d thought, it would save a whole lot of trouble if things didn’t work out and no one knew. It wasn’t that you were ashamed of Oscar, in fact that couldn’t be farther than the truth. But rather, Ruby and Cesar’s history had been too complex for that. Well more like your family’s opinions of Cesar and by association Oscar were too complex for that. And since Oscar had been the one to ask you if you’d wanted to keep it a secret, you figured it probably saved him too. If he didn’t come out in the open and claim you as his own, it would be no sweat for him when he broke up with you. Not that you’d mentioned either of these thoughts to Oscar, he hated it when you shared that you thought he would stop loving you long before you stopped loving him.
On these days indoors you spent the day talking mostly, but also playing cards, kissing and snuggling, and making amazing foods. Oscar loved when you played his su chef. As the day turned to afternoon you checked the clock. It was time to finish packing up and head to work or you wouldn’t make it on time.
“I guess it’s our last day at the house,” you’d shrugged as you finished packing your purse for work.
“It doesn’t have to be” he said simply looking at you across the living room.
“Sure it does, Cesar will be home tomorrow, that’s the day you have your deal right?” you asked.
“Yeah, bu…” he tried, but you cut him off.
“So last day in the freedom of the house, Cesar will be home for good tomorrow and then he’d know.” Oscar just stared back at you. “And hey,” you said crossing the room to stand in front of him, “don’t do anything too stupid.” He leaned down to kiss your lips and then nodded with that serious face of his.
“Te quiero” you’d bid him goodbye, running your finger between his knit brows and heading towards the door.
“Quiero mas” he answered behind you.
Oscar had decided that day on the beach that he wanted to make sure you were always loved. He didn’t realize that it wasn’t that you didn’t feel loved by those closest to you, it’s just that you didn’t think people outside of the circle would. He’d driven to the beach every day you worked after that, making sure to take you on walks down the pier, dinner, the movies, anything there was to do outside of town. He’d even gone down to the hospital and paid on Ruby’s balance each month. He’d set it up so he paid the interest so it couldn’t accumulate. At first he’d wanted to pay off the whole thing, but he wasn’t sure that would be well received. All the little things count became the mantra he stole from you.
When he had suggested that you see each other in secret it had everything to do with the fact that he didn’t want to share you. Not with the Santos, not with your family, not with anyone. If you kept it a secret your time, though sometimes fleeting, could be for just to two of you. And as time went on it just seemed more and more logical, there was obvious bad blood on the part of your parents from the falling out of the Cesar-Latrelle situation. The longer you kept it a secret, it seemed there was less and less opportunity to share the information with the world without it being awkward. So you hadn’t, instead you’d kept your dating a secret.
Now that Cesar was back at home, the Core 4 met there each day before heading to school. At first, you had just seen Oscar less, but it was getting to you both. Instead you started to leave just after Ruby and spend a few hours in the morning together after the crew had left for school.
It worked perfectly many mornings. Unbeknownst to the happy couple, it would not work today. Sneaking through the side yard you entered the house and set to work on breakfast. You weren’t exactly sure where Oscar was but you knew he’d be out as soon as he started to smell the omelette you were making. He hadn’t bothered to put a shirt on or even check the front door before sauntering across the kitchen towards you and the smell.
“I love you, I love you, I love you!” he’s said wrapping his arms around you and hugging you close. He picked you up off the floor and waved your feet back and forth before putting you down and placing a few quick kisses on your cheek.
At this point the teens in the door had stopped all conversation as they stared wide eyed at the couple. They’d been conversing about the bomb threat at school and being sent home when the sight in the kitchen had caught them all off guard and stunned them into silence.
“Mas, mas, mas” you’d giggled turning in his arms and cupping his face to properly kiss him good morning.
“What the actual hell” came the comedically high and emphatic voice that belonged to Jamal.
Oscar’s eyebrows shot up in question, his hands still entangled in your hair, he quarter turned to see the teens. You’d leaned around his muscled arm to look at them also.
Next came Ruby’s voice, quizzical, “Is your brother dating my sister, like for real?” he asked, presumably Cesar.
“Ummm” Cesar replied, being able to muster nothing else by way of explanation.
“I did not see that one coming,” Monse replied.
The couple turned back to one another, Oscar spoke first, “Supongo que el gato está fuera de la bolsa, mi amor.” And instead of answering, you just pulled his face down to kiss you again.

Alfredo Diaz, Neighborhood Watch
Rating: T (language and mild violence)
Summary: Alfredo takes his role as part of the neighborhood watch very seriously. Maybe a little too seriously... (Inspired by the Scotland Yard Let’s Roll)
[AO3]
Everyone tells Alfredo that he takes his position on the neighborhood watch way too seriously.
“You don’t need to drop everything at ten pm because some kid comes knocking asking if you’ve seen their cat,” the man next door grouses, bleary eyed and dressed in his bath robe. But Alfredo already has a flashlight and tin of tuna. The poor girl’s tears has subsided now that she’s found someone to help her.
“He’s not your child, why are you even bothering? If he’s really missing, just let the police take care of it,” the lady across the street says, exhaling cigarette smoke in his face. He bites his tongue and doesn’t tell her that the kid has been known to run away on occasion. He doesn’t tell her about how the parents are going through a messy divorce and the poor guy is caught in the middle. The lady scoffs at him for not responding, but she turns away and heads back inside, and he continues patrolling the block. It takes him a few hours, but he finds the little man and treats him to some Dairy Queen before bringing him home and reminding him he’s loved, cared for, and if he ever needs anything, just call.
Alfredo Diaz cares about his neighborhood because after getting out of the military, it’s all he has.
The people around here like him. He’s helpful, kind, good with their kids, and more importantly, good at keeping their kids out of trouble. Even the teenage ruffians know better than to get up to hijinks when Alfredo’s around. Not because they’re afraid he’ll call the cops on them or anything, but more because they don’t want to disappoint him.
And also because sometimes he bought them beer and would hang out and tell war stories from his time in the military.
He’s a goddamn pillar of the community, he does his best to set an example for as many people as he can. Good role models are hard to come by in Los Santos.
He’s spent the past few hours sitting on the porch of his home, listening to the police scanner. The Fakes had hit a jewelry store a few miles north of the neighborhood. Far enough away that there aren’t any cops crawling the streets, but close enough that there’s the off chance that gang members might come ripping through in their escape.
Not that he knows what he’d do if any of them come gunning past. According to the scanner, the Fakes have mostly dispersed and taken off in different directions. His own bike is in the shop so it’s not like he could chase them down if they came past. And the only quasi-weapon he has on hand is a foam baseball bat he’s been meaning to return after that impromptu kids baseball game a few days ago. Competent as he is in melee combat, he knows the chances of coming out unscathed bringing a children’s toy to a gun fight aren’t good.
Besides, it’s unlikely any of them will come this way.
So, he sits vigil to do the least of what his civic duty asks him to do. Report a sighting should they come this way, and stay out of trouble.
Or at least that’s his initial plan.
But then he sees a figure running down the street on foot. They’re too tall to be a child. All the neighborhood kids should be asleep by now, and most of the teens and adults are probably watching the news, awaiting more information on the Fakes’ most recent heist.
So who the fuck is this?
Alfredo leans over the porch railing, trying to get a better look. They’re doing a good job at dodging the patches of light illuminated by street lamps. It’s hard to make out any defining features, but whoever they are, they’re fuckin’ huge. A massive frame with broad shoulders that seems to be clutching a bag close to their chest. His fingers moving to wrap around the grip of the foam bat. They’re moving like they’ve stolen something, and he frowns. If someone stole something from one of his neighbors, then he’ll be damned if he lets them get away.
He’s Alfredo Diaz of the motherfucking neighborhood watch.
He stands up, bat in hand, and the figure freezes about a block away. They both stand stock still. He’s unsure as to whether or not the person can make out his figure. His porch light is dim, and there are trees and bushes in the way that might block the view. But even if they can’t see him, they’re not taking any chances. The movement of him standing was enough to get them to bolt. They cut in between two houses and starts booking it through the backyards.
“Oh no, you don’t,” Alfredo mutters. He leaps off his porch, breaking into a sprint. It doesn’t take him long to track down his target. While the yards offer more places to hide than the open streets, they also slow the thief down. Play structures, gardens, inflatable pools. There are a number of obstacles in the way. And although the thief is incredibly fit, hopping fences with ease, they’re in no way as familiar with the yards as Alfredo is.
He knows that the Smiths tend to leave their gate door unlocked, so he doesn’t have to leap over the pickets. And that the Robinsons have a tendency of leaving their hose lying about, a constant tripping hazard for anyone who dares trek through their backyard. He also knows that the Yungs and the Sanchezes have a garden tunnel connecting their yards. He uses that to cut the thief off.
He’s breathing heavily when he corners the person in the Yung’s yard. It’s a messy tackle, but he lunges at the person’s waist, and Jesus, they’re fucking solid. “No one escapes the neighborhood watch, bitch!” he yells. He’s not entirely sure what prompted him to say that, but it feels right in the moment. Been a while since he’s felt like a badass.
They fall to the ground in a pile of flailing limbs and pained grunts. It’s a good thing the Yung’s are on vacation right now. With all the commotion they’re making, he’s sure it would have woken them up.
They struggle, a fist making contact with Alfredo’s jaw hard enough he thinks a tooth might have been knocked loose. But he manages to pin the guy — and it is a guy — underneath him. Alfredo’s knee is pressed between the guy’s shoulder blades and he’s managed to pin his hands behind his back using the bat.
Now that he’s up close and personal, he’s got a better look of the guy. Long hair pulled back in a ponytail, leather jacket, black-and-white face paint streaking with sweat, and….fuck. This isn’t some punk thief stealing from his neighbors.
He’s got the Vagabond underneath him.
Were he any less disciplined or not as well trained, he might have let go out of pure shock. But he keeps bearing his weight down on the infamous criminal because if he doesn’t, odds are he won’t make it out of this alive.
The Vagabond struggles beneath him, kicking his legs and trying desperately to buck him off. He spits out threats, snarling like a feral animal. “Get the fuck off me,” and “Let me go and I’ll let you live,” and, eventually, “I’m going to fucking kill you.”
Alfredo’s heart is racing. It’s taking all his strength to keep the other man from breaking free. “Mister Vagabond,” he grunts, resisting a particularly strong wriggle. “On the authority of the neighborhood watch, I am placing you under citizen’s arrest for, uh— theft for sure.”
The Vagabond stills and turns his head. He glares at Alfredo from over his shoulder. “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me.”
“I…No?” Alfredo responds.
Then the Vagabond smirks, and goes lax, no longer struggling against him. “Well, good luck with that,” he says.
Alfredo doesn’t have time to process just how bad that kind of reaction is when he feels the kiss of metal at the back of his head. He immediately lets go of the bat and brings his hands up.
“Anyone want to explain what the fuck is happening, here?” a feminine voice asks from behind.
He twists around slowly, swallowing thickly. A red-headed woman stands behind him. She doesn’t look angry, which he supposes is a good sign. Irritated, maybe. Definitely vaguely amused. She lifts an eyebrow pointedly at the Vagabond. “Well?”
The Vagabond slips out from beneath Alfredo. He grabs the bag and dusts himself off. “Neighborhood watch,” he says. He flashes a smug smile that sends a message, loud and clear: You’re fucked.
But the gun pressed to his head is lowered and the woman looks at the Vagabond incredulously. “Neighborhood watch?” she repeats, holstering her weapon and dragging a hand down her face. The Vagabond’s grin falters. “You escaped the LSPD but were caught by the neighborhood watch? Are you fucking serious?” The Vagabond opens his mouth to defend himself, but she cuts him off with a wave of her hand. “I don’t want to hear it. The car’s ‘round front. Go.”
Alfredo doesn’t think he’s ever seen anyone act so meek. It’s a strange look on the Vagabond. He watches him sulk his way around the house, and he hears the sound of a car door creaking open and slamming shut. The woman circles around him and sighs. She offers her hand and he hesitantly take it. “What’s you’re name, kid?” she says, pulling him to his feet.
It’s an awful idea to tell her his name. He knows it is. But she commands such a presence that he can’t help but answer.“D-Diaz,” he stammers.
“Diaz,” she repeats back at him. “Good name. You live around here, Diaz?”
He nods.
“You care about this neighborhood and the people living in it?”
He nods again.
“Good,” she says firmly. “Now, here’s what’s going to happen: You’re going to go home and get some rest. Then, tomorrow morning you’re going to make a few calls to some of your neighbors and ask if anyone saw what happened tonight. If they did, assure them that it was nothing to be concerned about. You will make no mentions of what you did or saw tonight to anyone. Not your neighbors, not the police, not even your mother. If you do, we’ll know, and we’ll have to do something about that. You don’t want us to do anything about that, do you?”
“No, ma’am,” he whispers hoarsely.
She looks at him gently and smiles, patting his cheek. “Good man. Now, get out of here.”
He stares at her in stunned silence, amazed that she’s just letting him go. Unless this is some sort of trick? But with a wave of her hand, he turns on his heel and books it out of there. He doesn’t stop until he reaches his front door, and it’s only then he thinks to look behind him to see if he’s been followed. A quick glance tells him he hasn’t. No cars linger conspicuously on the street, and he doesn’t see anyone lurking around.
But he doesn’t take any chances. He locks and bars the doors and double checks to make sure his windows are shut tight. Not that he’s sure a simple lock would be enough to stop the Fakes from getting to him if they really wanted to. But as the adrenaline wears off, exhaustion sets in, and his bed looks incredibly comfortable. Tucking a handgun under his pillow, he drifts into restless sleep.
He’s got a lot to do tomorrow.
* * *
A week later, a knock comes at his door. He answers it and sees the red-headed woman from before. Standing beside her is a tall man. It takes him a moment to recognize the guy without the face paint, but he realizes it’s the Vagabond. His blood runs cold. He fights the urge to slam the door on their faces. He can’t imagine that would go over well.
Instead, he forces a polite smile. “Can I help you?” he asks.
The woman looks to the Vagabond, who appears thoroughly displeased to be here. “My friend, Ryan, owes you an apology.”
The Vagabond — Ryan? — scowls and crosses his arms. “Sorry,” he says, not even bothering to look Alfredo in the eye. The woman elbows him in the ribs. “I’m sorry for threatening to kill you,” he amends.
Alfredo doesn’t buy it, not with the petulant and unapologetic look in his eyes, but he sure as hell isn’t going to reject it. “I…Sure. Whatever, dude. It’s all good.”
The woman pats Ryan on the back. “There. That wasn’t so hard, now was it?” she asks gently. Ryan flushes and grumbles something under his breath, but he nods slightly to appease her. Then she turns to Alfredo and holds out her hand. “I’m Jack, by the way.”
He takes it and gives it a weak shake. “I, uh…Alfredo.” he responds.
“I know,” she says. Because, yeah. Of course she does. She knows where he lives too. Fuck. “Can we come in?”
He freezes. His eyes dart around, quickly taking stock of who’s out and about. A handful of children are playing on the street, and a few people are walking their dogs. As much as he wants to shield innocent civilians from these criminals, he’s also not keen on being alone with them. Witnesses are good. Especially if he’s about to be kidnapped or murdered in broad daylight. “I’d rather you didn’t.”
Jack looks at him gently. “We’re not here to hurt you, Alfredo. This is a conversation you don’t want to have out in public.”
“Give me the highlights,” he says, hoping he sounds braver than he really feels. He was less afraid under enemy fire in the desert than he is now. “What’s this about?”
Her gaze flicks back over to Ryan, who’s shoulders nearly cover his ears in a full body pout. “You took down my friend with nothing but a toy baseball bat,” she says with a clandestine smile. “We have a job offer for you.”

bullies x final girl reader? like, they were recently the only survivor of a killing and they’re being seen as a badass ( rightfully so )? bonus points if the reader seems like ur stereotypical ditzy cheerleader
Honestly, I love this??
Recently I've been getting into Dead by Daylight and Slasher movies, but because I'm just too much of an uncultured swine, I can't get enough courage to open the requests for DBD headcanons.
I wish I could put more fandoms on the masterlist, but because I only follow a couple of niche fandoms (some of those weird ones, ya know?) I'm always a little too worried about saying my headcanons for them. I'm afraid of getting out of character 😂😅

Final Girl (yes, I know, really creative, I'm lazy okay?) - [Yandere!Bully Ocs x Survivor!Reader - Headcanon]:
Who would've guessed that someone like you would face such a tragedy so soon? A big event that would change people's perspective and morals due to the traumatic experiences, in a span of a day?
Or better question, who would've guessed that you would face everything in such a calm manner? Talk with your classmates like it was a common Monday afternoon.
Let's recap a bit, it was Friday when it happened, you were going back home and it was already getting dark and everyone was already either getting home after work, or leaving their home to go to work.
Your classes had just ended, but you still needed some work to do inside the gym, organizing some of the stuff that you and your friends used for practice.
You see, it's when the sun is starting to come down and everyone inside the city is being active and getting to one place to another, the exact moment when the city feels lively, that people feel more comfortable to just care about their business.
After all, it's a lot safer when there are a hundred strangers walking around. No one would be crazy to try to pull a move when there are so many witnesses.
But that's the catch, when the sunset ends and the moon starts coming into vision, it's the exact opposite of the calm daylight. It all depends on where you're going and how long does it take for you to get there.
Even if you live near the richest places with those beautiful villas, you still have a chance, even if it's minimum, to get killed in those silent streets. That's why everyone around that area is known to walk fast at night and be straight to the point.
But then again, you weren't going to the rich area of the city, no, you were going home, in a more moderate area.
I say moderate, because although crimes aren't really high around your house, it's not exactly a calm walk until you get home.
It would be worse if none of the students lived close to you. At least there are a couple of people to talk with, even if some of them are strangers or not really close to you.
It would be a shame if someone were to follow this group of people that aren't armed or prepared in any way, shape or form-
Oh no, wait!-
You can't like the whole event wasn't really traumatic, it's just that, your brain had blocked a couple of memories, you still have a hard time believing any of it happened.
In one second, you're in a group of 6, on the other, you're in a group of 5. "Someone must have got lost along the way", that's what the others in the group said, trying to come up with more positive interpretations while ignoring the worrying inside their heads.
" Everything is fine, we'll see Marie on school Monday surely!"
" She probably just went the other way, maybe she lives on another street and we didn't hear her say goodbye, that's all."
It was always like this, someone would ask where she could be, and someone would give them fake hopes that she was alright. But deep down you all knew she wasn't.
Something in the air wasn't right and everyone knew that. Even if y'all didn't really know each other (as some of these students were from other classes), you could still feel the same worries that Marie's classmate was feeling. He was getting worried that his classmate just disappeared out of nowhere.
He only had known her for a week, he told you explaining why he didn't know where she lived as she never told him. He decided that he would go back and see if she got lost or was needing help. And so, your group was considering if they should go after him or wait for them.
Or just continue like nothing happened.
After some minutes standing up and not seeing any sign of the two, you all decided to go home, as waiting any longer in the dark would be really dangerous.
So there was you and three strangers that were trying to break the ice as best as they could, but nothing seemed to change how terrible you were feeling inside, knowing that something could have happened.
You did make them laugh a bit though, you were fun to be around, and maybe y'all could have been friends.
But things didn't work out that way, things just got worse and worse that night. You were 6, then 5, then 4, then 1.
The killer wanted to go one by one, but he didn't think you or any of the other students would fight back. He shouldn't have attacked a group of six to be honest.
You managed to escape his grasp and turn to another direction so he couldn't follow you to your house, you were panicking, but using skills that you gained by being a cheerleader, you managed to reach a police station nearby.
Honestly, who said that cheerleaders are dumb just ate a mouthful of grass.
Of course they took some time to believe you, thinking it was a prank at first, but giving you a second glance it was obvious you were panicking and had run miles to get there.
They didn't find the killer sadly, but at least they found the bodies that were hidden in some of the alleys, a really sloppy killer, probably didn't have a plan B to cover his tracks.
The incident was all over the news, there wasn't a person who hasn't heard of what you've been through, people even want to have interviews with you, for you to tell the full story and experience, but honestly you're just too tired for that.
You wish you could rest a bit before going back to your daily life, since a lot of the things that happened that night are now a blank canvas inside your brain.
You weren't expecting people to treat you with so much respect though, it was… Pretty heartwarming!
People never have given you the benefit of the doubt, but now your classmates act like you're movie badass or something, but you can't understand why, you only did basic parkour skills to reach the station. You don't think it was a big deal at all!
( Although the cameras around those streets shown you making fucking backflips to jump a wall, but moving on-)
Even the twins that acted like mediocre bullies towards you actually show some respect for once. It's…. A really weird change and you don't know how to feel about it!?
But can you blame them? They were sitting in their couch messing around with their phones and out of nowhere the latest news passing on their TV is:
" Five students from Amaryllis Academy have been found dead at seven p.m by Police Officer Marcella Diaz, after a student named [Y/N] [L/N] had appeared at the Police Station claiming that a killer was following them all night-"
Like, can you imagine hearing that your soon to be wife had almost fucking died by some creep following them???! The audacity of some people, honestly.
But seriously, after hearing your name being mentioned in TV, they freaked out! Something terrible could have happened to you and they wouldn't know about it!
If you were dead they wouldn't forgive themselves even if they don't have anything to do with the incident. They wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that not only did you die and that the creep is lurking around somewhere, they wouldn't be able to tell you that they love you and that they're really sorry that they were assholes, and they will burn the man that dared touch you, and-
You know, some people say that after an extreme experience like this, a person would be reborned in a way. But honestly, you feel like your normal self, it just feels like the world is a lot different now. Maybe your perspective had changed, or maybe you did get reborn.
For someone that used to see the world as a great place, you're starting to see that not everything is perfect, and that things like this happen all the time.
That thought kinda scares you.
Lately, the twins have been really friendly towards you, almost suffocatingly so. They even started to welcome you inside their family's lamborghini so they could take you home.
They don't want you to go through anything like that ever again. You even began to go into their house on the weekends.
These past few weeks have been insane, you almost forgot how to breathe when you saw on the news that the body of the killer of your classmates had been found in a parking lot, burned to death.
You didn't know how to react, it was only two weeks after the incident, and he is found dead almost turning into ashes. It's so disturbing, that if it wasn't for the reassuring hug Alexandra has given you, you would fall flat on the floor.
You….. Are absolutely lost for words.
You guess… Maybe you don't need to be worried about him anymore….

Oscar Diaz-Safe
For @dolanackles
You were with Oscar for 3 months before he got sent to Corcoran on a four year sentence, everybody telling you to just go ahead and leave him since the relationship was still sort of new with you guys. You didn’t listen though, staying with him the entire time, falling deeper in love with him each visit and longing for his release so you could resume a normal life with him. Which was what you two were doing after he got out a few weeks ago...however everything changed when a Prophet and his girl ended up dead. All accusing fingers pointing to the Santos. That’s when you noticed Oscar’s behavior change and a shift in your guy’s world. He didn’t want to go out on dates or do simple mundane things anymore like go shopping. The only time you saw him, being late at night when he would come over to your place, but even that stopped. Actually everything stopped, it’s like he fell off the face of the Earth and didn’t bother to tell you.
You find yourself sitting on Oscar’s steps, waiting for him to return home. You’ve been trying to get in touch with him the last few days, but every time you called or texted he ignored it. You feared something must have happened to him, however all that turned into anger when you ran into a confused Cesar this morning that was just as lost as you were. He actually informed you that Oscar was completely fine and going on about his day like usual. To say you were pissed would be under doing it.
You’re pulled from your thoughts when you see his car pull into the driveway, thankful that he was alone and not with his homies. He climbs out of the car as you stand up, locking eyes with each other,“What are you doing here?” He asks annoyingly, his face keeping it’s hard features.
“What the fuck do you mean ‘What am I doing here’? I deserve answers Oscar! You’ve been blowing me off for the last couple of days, what kind of shit is that?!” You say like it was the most obvious thing in the world, wasting no time in approaching him.
“Maaaann, go home Y/N.” He says trying to get past you to head up the driveway.
“No, fuck you, you inconsiderate asshole. I thought you were hurt or dead in a ditch somewhere!” You fire back, shoving his chest with all your force,”Stop trying to walk away from me Oscar.”
“Déjame en paz!” He yells, grabbing a hold of your wrists and holding them to your chest,”Go the fuck home and don’t come back.” He says slowly, as if you were some sort of child and not his girlfriend of many years, even if most of those years he was behind bars.
“Just tell me what I did wrong? What changed? We were just...we were just happy.” You say, your voice growing quiet as you refuse to look at him in the eyes,”You just got out, you should want to spend time with me.”
“You were happy. Not me.” Is all he says as he let’s go of you and moves past you to the front door,”I got more important things to worry about now that I’m out. I don’t need you on my back over some some bullshit, besides we’re done if I wasn’t making it clear enough. You were just someone to make the time go by a little faster, and now that I’m free I don’t need you.”
You let his words sink in and register, your heart breaking in half,“You know what, it’s fine. You’re not stuck in a cell so you don’t need me anymore, is that right? Well guess what? I don’t need YOU. I’m too good for you, I should have realized that after you went to prison for four years and left me all alone. To caught up in the game to realize that you have a down ass female in front of you.” You say wanting to hurt his feelings like he just hurt yours,”Money, drugs, and bitches that’s a cholo’s motto right? Thank you Oscar. Thank you for wasting so many years of my life inmate 67345-354.” You tell him, spitting out his prison id number that was etched into your brain,”That’s the only big numbers you’ll ever seen in your life because that’s the only thing you will ever amount to.”
You see the hurt cross his face, Oscar hiding it quickly as you stoop to saying something so low,”Go. Don’t come around here no more.” He demands, giving you one last look before going inside. The door slamming with so much force that you’re surprised the house didn’t fall apart.
You don’t let yourself cry as you begin your walk home, not believing that any of that just happened. That Oscar could drop you like nothing after all that you did for him, after all that he put you through.
“I hate him.” You repeat over and over to yourself, getting stopped by Cesar and his friends walking in the opposite direction a few blocks down.
“Hey Y/N, did you end up getting a hold of Oscar?” The younger Diaz asks
“Yup.” You say, brushing a few pieces of hair behind your ear,”And he broke up with me so there’s that.”
“What? He wouldn’t do that. It has to be a mistake or he’s playing a sick prank.” Cesar defends,”Oscar loves you, I know he does.”
“There is no mistake Cesar, he was pretty clear with his words.” You sigh, blinking back the tears that wanted oh so badly to fall the more you talked about Oscar.
“I’m going to talk to him and find out what’s going on. I just can’t see him leaving you...Oscar’s loyal to loyal people. And you’re as loyal as it gets Y/N.” He continues, his friends staying out of the conversation but nodding their heads in agreement since they knew that you stuck by Oscar.
“It’s fine Cesar, you don’t have to do that. I don’t want you too actually.”
“Y/N.” He groans in protest
“I mean it. I’ll be okay, I just want to get home now and lay down.” You say and give him a sad smile,”Bye Cesar. Bye guys.” You tell the group, walking in between them as they make way for you on the sidewalk. Cesar watching you go, not one to listen to anybody as he says goodbye to his friends and takes off home to find out what was really going on.
~
“Y/N!” You hear the familiar sound of Cesar’s voice, his fist banging on your front door a few days later.
“Cesar? What are you doing here? It’s almost 8 in the morning, shouldn’t you be at school?” You ask tiredly when you swing open the door.
“I’m going, I just had to stop by first and tell you what I heard.” He says with a huge grin on his face.
“Yeah? What did you hear?” You ask confused
“Oscar only broke up with you to keep you safe, I heard him on the phone in his room talking to Sad Eyes. He feels horrible but he thought it was the only way to keep you safe from the Prophets if they decided to seek revenge.”
“What? Are you sure you heard him right?” You say with a shake of your head,”He could have just told me that instead of going M.I.A if that was the case.”
“I’m positive. I knew he wouldn’t just leave you.” Cesar smiles knowingly,”You have to go talk to him. He should still be home.” He encourages
“I don’t know Cesar. I said some pretty messed up things to him out of anger.” You admit, biting the inside of your cheek,”He’s probably glad he left me after what I told him.”
“If he was, then he wouldn’t be complaining to his homie about you. Come on Y/N, just go talk to him. You gotta try, if not for him then for me. You became like a sister to me and I don’t want to see you two end in bad terms.”
“Don’t guilt trip me into talking to your brother.” You gasp and shove his shoulder lightly.
“Did it work?” He asks hopefully, you sigh and take a moment to think for yourself before slowly nodding.
“It did. Fine, I’ll go talk to him, I just gotta get changed first and you gotta get to school.”
“I’m going, I’m going.” He says holding his hands in defense, a small smirk on his lips,”Bye.”
“Bye.” You laugh and shut the door, a bit nervous as you rush to your room. Not knowing if Oscar would forgive you for what you said.
You throw on something casual as quick as you can, not wanting to waste any more time, brushing your teeth after and pulling your hair into a bun. 20 minutes later you step outside and turn to secure the top lock, your body going stiff when you feel someone come up from behind.
“Baby?” You hear Oscar say, his voice scratchy before he clears it, your body relaxing.
You turn around and take in his appearance, his under eyes dark and baggy as if he hasn’t slept in a while,”You scared me...I was just going to your place.” You admit
“Really? It doesn’t matter I’m here now and I couldn’t wait any longer...I’m sorry for everything I said nena, I didn’t mean any of that shit. I just figured you would be safer if we weren’t together from all this Prophet shit. I didn’t want to see you get hurt because of my affiliation with the Santos. We had a sit down with them last night and turns out they found the actual killer.” He explains,”I was going to come straight after, but then I thought that maybe it would be best if I didn’t because like you said, you can do better. Better then someone who could potentially put you in a dangerous situation one day.”
“Oscar I know, Cesar came by and told me all of this. That’s why I was going to your place.” You say and place your hands on either side of his face,”I swear to you, I did not mean any of what I said. I was just so angry and sad, you didn’t deserve all that just for breaking up with me. You are more than your prison numbers and I should have never thrown that in your face. I know how hard it was for you in there and it was a low blow.”
“Nah mami, don’t beat your self up over that. My intention was to be a dick so I deserved everything you said and then some, but now that all this shit is over I want to give you the option of being with me. I’m too selfish to make it for you because I would choose to never leave your side again, these past few days have been absolute hell for me.” He talks, as you move your hands down his sides and take his large ones in yours,”With that being said do you still want to be with me, now that you seen how dangerous shit can potentially get in my life? Think about it nena.”
“Oscar I know being with you comes with a lot of baggage and I’m okay with that. If I wasn’t, why would I stay by your side while you were locked up? I knew from our first date what I was getting into and I still wanted to be with you. I still want to be with you. You got locked up so soon into our relationship, but I always knew something could potentially happen that could affect me as well. But I also knew that I loved you early on and couldn’t let you go no, matter what may come. Always papi, remember? “ You smile and squeeze his hands lightly
“You sure? No backing out after this.”
“Yes I’m sure.” You say with a small laugh as his hands release yours and move to wrap around your waist. Oscar waisting no more time in pressing his lips down to yours. Never letting you go after today.

For a promt: After like a week or two after 3x15 Buck, Eddie and Chris has a movie night wich ends with Buck spending the night in the Diaz house where Eddie finds out Buck is not okay. He is having nightmares shouting out Chris` and Eddie`s name when the tsunami and Eddie being trapped morphes into one dream with Buck waking up and having panic attacks.
Warnings: swearing, panic attack, drowning, nightmares and spoilers for some of the eps. established buddie, like I always do :)
This kinda got away from me, not gonna lie but I was really excited to get this prompt. It easily my longest one-shot at the moment, but I hope you guys liked it. Thank you so much for the request, it was a really good one to write. Also, every time I read a fic that has a nightmare scene, it’s just a straight up flashback. Also every time I write a fic Eddie seems to be the ceo of nicknames.
“No, it’s Bucky’s turn to pick!” Eddie rolls his eyes and sits back down, having just gotten up to pick another movie for them to watch but it seems as though his son was going to have other ideas about that. “Don’t feel so bad, Eds.” Buck begins with a laugh from where he had been sitting on the other side of Christopher, who looks up between Buck and his father with a happy expression adoring his face. “If I’m picking the movie, then it actually means Chris is picking it.” Eddie sniggered at what his boyfriend had said and agreed, because Buck was completely wrapped around Christopher’s finger and would so absolutely anything the kid asked of him. It was enduring most of the time.
“He’s right, daddy.” Christopher adds on with a serious expression, causing Eddie to burst out into laughter as he shakes his head at his kid’s honesty, Buck rolling his eyes with a cheerful smile stretched across his lips. “Hey, the kids honest.” Christopher giggles so loudly when Buck leans over to tickle his stomach before getting up, remembering what movie Christopher had said during dinner that he wanted to watch. “Let me guess. Moana.” Eddie sighs with an annoyed look, he’s been forced to watch that movie so many times since he bought it, especially after the Tsunami happened. Christopher took a fascination with the movie, and Eddie knew it was because it must have helped to see the water as something that he doesn’t need to be scared of anymore. Eddie takes a moment to look at Buck, who he knows has developed such a large fear of water because of the event. The older firefighter doesn’t blame him in the slightest, Buck and Christopher had almost died and that was enough to make him not fond of water either.
“You’re are correct, Mr Diaz.” Buck says over his shoulder as he takes a moment to search for the movie, grumbling about how Eddie has far too many DVDs when all these movies were online. Eddie smiles, that’s rich coming from someone who has a million CDs when he has the same music on his phone.
“Ha! Found it!” Buck cried out in triumph and held up the movie case like it was treasure, and Eddie know he’s doing it because it will get a laugh out of Christopher. And that’s what the young boy does without fail, his giggling filling the room as he looks up at his father with the happiest expression on his face. “Bucky’s silly.” He notes and Buck looks over his shoulder to glare at Buck when his boyfriend laughs and agrees with his son. “Wow, betrayed by my own boys.” Eddie can’t help but think about how much he loves this man, who has done nothing but made him and his son’s life so much happier; able to brighten their lives just by being around.
“You’re silly, but we love you Bucky.” Buck smiles so happily at Christopher when he had spoken. “Well, then you’re both forgiven.” He retorts with a serious look in his eyes, even though there was a sly smile worming its way onto his face. “Oh hey, I don’t here I love you guys, Buck. That’s a bit mean.” Eddie joins in on the joking as well, having a mock expression of disbelief on his face. Buck stands up after he’s put on the movie, returning to his spot on the couch beside Christopher; sticking his tongue out at Eddie in response. To which Eddie just rolls his eyes and wonders why he loves someone who has the personality of a six year old. “I love you guys too.” Buck ends up saying it anyway, and despite the false reluctance in his voice the look in his eyes has nothing but love for the two people sitting on the couch with him.
“Shh, movie’s starting!”
Eddie and Buck exchange a look with silent laughs when Christopher had spoken, his eyes fixated to the screen as the movie began to play. Christopher leans into Buck’s side, the older man wrapping his arm around the kid as he too begins to watch the movie. Eddie takes this moment to snap a picture of the two most important people in his life curled up together; making his heart completely melt in his chest. He takes the time to send the photo to Maddie, who loved getting these photos of her brother being content and happy with his family. She said it made her so happy that someone loved his brother as much as he and Christopher did, that he deserved to this type of love more than anyone she knew.
From: Future Sis-In-Law they look so happy! Keep up the good work, Diaz!
At the message, Eddie smiles as he phones his eyes and put his phone back into his pocket and begins to watch the movie with his family; both of his boys’ eyes fixated to the screen.
There was one part in the movie that Eddie was a little worried about, where Moana seems as though she is going to drown and it made him worry about Buck’s reaction to it. So sure enough, when the part came on Eddie found himself turning his head to look at Buck and his reaction to it. He could see how Buck had a deep frown on his face, his mouth pressed into a tight line, his body seeming to tense up.
Eddie reached out and took Buck’s hand into his own, the younger man looking over at him and giving him a grateful smile as he gave the hand in his a gentle squeeze. The action was a wordless ‘I’m okay’ that he didn’t want to say out loud; but it showed his thankfulness for his boyfriend understanding him easily.
They got through the remainder of the movie easily, Buck growing relaxed once more as he kept Eddie’s hand in his own the entire time with Christopher still lying against him. The young boy was growing tired, eyes barely able to stay open by the time the credits to the movie rolled down the screen, Buck looking down at the boy in his arms. “Ready for bed, kiddo?” His voice is barely above a whisper, not wanting to disturb the relaxed and peacefulness they found themselves in. Christopher yawned loudly as he nodded his head but no move to remove himself from Buck, Eddie chuckling at the action. “You wanna put him to bed then?” Buck didn’t hesitate and showed no annoyance at having to do it; instead he nodded his head as he picked the boy up who in turn rested his head against the man’s shoulder.
“I’ll meet you in bed, babe.” Buck explained as he began to small trek into Christopher, Eddie just sitting there and watching him disappear down the hallway for a moment. Eddie got up and burned off the movie, not bothering to clean up the cups that sat empty on the table and would leave them for tomorrow morning, he was tired and just looking forward to going to sleep. Yawning, Eddie made his way into the bedroom and began to get himself ready for bed with tired movements. Climbing into the bed, he laid there awake as he waited for his boyfriend to enter; which he did a minute after he got comfortable.
“Kid fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.” Buck noted with a fond chuckle as he began to get ready for bed himself, Eddie noting how tired he looked as he moved around the room. “If it was any other movie he would have fallen asleep halfway through.” Eddie spoke with a smile, one that Buck couldn’t see in the darkness of the room but could hear when he talked.
Buck was quiet as he climbed into the bed, yawning quietly but dramatically as he lay down beside his boyfriend. Both of them moved without talking as Buck lay on his side, Eddie movie to bring the other flush against his chest and wrap an arm around his waist. Eddie pressed a kiss to the back of Buck’s head, and in turn Buck had reached down to entwine his finger’s wish Eddie’s, already beginning to doze off. “Night, baby.” Eddie said, already beginning to fall asleep once he grew comfortable with the position and Buck humming in response to what had been said. It was obvious that he was already beginning to doze off in the arms of the man that he loved.
“Wake me up early and I’ll kill you.” Was the last thing that Buck had the strength to say with words slurred with sleep, Eddie snorting as he briefly smiled. They both had a day off tomorrow, something that doesn’t happen that often at the same time and they were going to spend it well; and that meant sleeping all day after Abuela picked up Christopher for a sleepover.
------------
Buck doesn’t know how he found himself back underwater, vision blurred and barely able to see his own hand in front of his own face; surrounded by dirtied water and too much debris. His lungs screamed for him to take a breath as he fought his way to the surface, using everything he had in him to not get dragged down by a force that he couldn’t see.
He took a giant heap of oxygen when he finally managed to break the surface of the water, splashing around as he managed to gather his own surroundings and what was going on. The Tsunami, he was in the tsunami and all he knew is that he didn’t have Christopher with him. Where was Christopher? He felt as though someone had gripped his heart with their bare hands and gave it a crushing squeeze with the amount of fear that worked throughout his body. “Christopher!” He screamed, as loud as he could despite the aching in his throat and how chocked up it was with the need to break down and sob. He grunted in pain when he felt something knock into him, and for a moment he found himself flailing back underneath the water. He looked down, eyes hurting, and made a noise of fear when he saw a hand gripping his ankle, the person attached to it doing what they could to drag him down.
With his heart in his throat, Buck kicked at the hand in an attempt to get free and reach the surface, he needed to find Christopher and make sure they kid was okay. He looked at the face of the person holding his legs, seeing huge white eyes with no pupils and mouth open in a snarl. He let out all the air he had trapped in his lungs with with an open mouth scream, the sound muffled by the water rushing into his mouth. He gave one more kick and was able to finally get himself free, moving as quick as he can to get himself free and rush as quick as he could to the surface once again.
He didn’t even stop as he dragged lungs into his pain filled lungs, moving quickly as he could away from the area that wanted to become his doom. “Christopher!” His voice broke as he screamed, looking around for any sign of the boy that he loved as his own; feeling nothing but fear when he didn’t get a response. “Chris! Please, where are you?!” Buck’s filled with nothing but desperation as he screamed as loud as he could, tears already sliding down his cheeks as he looked around wildly.
“Buck!”
Buck’s head turned so quickly in the direction that he heard Christopher’s voice come from, sobbing in relief when he saw the little boy holding onto a light pole in an attempt to keep himself above the water. “Christopher! Keep calling out to me, I’m coming!” As the words left his mouth, the young man was already on the move towards the young boy, ignoring how badly his own body ached as he swam towards Christopher. “Buck! Help!” The fear that was in the boy’s voice broke Buck’s heart to hear, but hearing Christopher was better than not hearing him at all; it meant he was still above water.
He swam and swam as quickly as he could, just out of arms reach from the boy when he saw Christopher’s grip on the light pole loosen. Buck watched with absolute horror as the kid was dragged under the water once again, one final cry of Buck’s name before he was completely gone. “No! Christopher! No!” He screamed, only to be pulled under the water once again by the grip on his ankle, and he braced himself to be forced under the surface once more.
Only he hit solid ground.
He was no longer in the tsunami, instead he found himself standing in the rain surrounded by the team at the 118, each one looking devastated as they stood around. Buck gasped as he realised where he was, Eddie was in danger and Buck wasn’t there to have his back. “We gotta help him! Bobby!” When Buck cried that out he could still taste the salt water in his mouth, it still felt like his lungs had been filling up with water despite being on solid ground. “He’s gone, Buck! We can’t get to him. He’s gone.” Bobby was speaking to him, but Buck found that he couldn’t accept the words that were being spoken to him. No! They can’t just give up on Eddie, not when he would never even dream of giving up on any of them. “Bobby, we can’t leave him down there. We can’t do that!” The sob was threatening to be torn from his throat when he saw the remorseful look on his team’s face and he felt shocked; they were really giving up on Eddie. “Alright, pack it up. We can’t do anything.” Buck could only watch, completely dumbfounded because this isn’t how this was supposed to go, they can’t just leave Eddie to die.
“Cap, no! Please, he’s still alive.” He was no longer yelling, in fact he was downright pleading as tears streamed down his face. He momentarily looked down, and he frowned when he noticed that he was wearing the close he wore on the day the tsunami hit. He shook his head, that wasn’t the important thing right now. The important thing was that Eddie was down there and they needed to get to him, but no one was doing anything about it.
“Even if he’s gone, we can’t leave him.” Buck explained, but it seemed to go on deaf ears as he was ignored by everyone around him; no one bothering with a response to the crying firefighter.
So Buck did the only thing that he was able to. He dropped to the ground and began to dig into the dirt with his own bare hands.
“Eddie! Please!” He begged, sobbing as he continued to dig; ignoring the stinging pain in his hands as he refused to give up.
“Buck, wake up!”
Buck looked up, looking utterly confused and lost as he heard Eddie’s voice come from somewhere around him, but that didn’t make any sense to his already scrambled thoughts. Eddie was stuck, and he needed to get to him. “Eddie.” He cried out, the word barely understandable in amongst the sobs that didn’t seem to stop.
“Evan! Come on, I need you to wake up.”
Buck gave a choked cry of Eddie’s name as he bolted upright into a sitting position, breaths harsh and deep as he looked around him with wide eyes. Eddie was by his side the instant he was up, moving to sit in front of his partner, already knowing that his open eyes weren’t seeing anything that was in front of him. “Hey, hey, hey. You’re okay, Evan. You’re safe, I promise.” Eddie’s own tone was filled with desperation because his loved one was in pain and he wasn’t able to help him right now; and the thought of being useless was tearing his heart up.
“No... There’s water eve-everywhere. Chris…” Buck’s voice was coming out in a whimper, the sound so incredibly small and heartbreak for Eddie to hear. “No, sweetheart. There’s no water. Come on, Evan. Hear my voice.” Eddie begged, wanting to reach out and touch his partner but knowing that right now it would most likely do more damage than good; he needed his boyfriend to be able to understand him. “Come on, Evan. Come back to me, you’re safe. Christopher is safe. We all are.” Promised Eddie and he saw Buck shift his eyes to him, tears endlessly sliding down his cheeks as he shook his head.
“Eddie.” Whined Buck with the most hurt sob that Eddie has ever heard, his entire body shaking as he reached out and latched onto the material of Eddie’s shirt. He needed to feel something to let him know that Eddie was in front of him, that he still wasn’t stuck under the ground. “Yeah, baby. It’s Eddie.” Promised Eddie, and since Buck had grabbed onto him and began to reach forward to place his hands on Buck’s cheeks; he needs the other to look at him completely. “Alright love, I’m going to place my hands on your face, okay?” He warned beforehand, not wanting to do anything to frighten the man more than he already was.
There was some relief he felt when Buck didn’t flinch away or hit his hands the moment the palm of his hand came in contact with the pale skin of his cheeks. “Hey, look at me. And only me, okay.” Buck’s eyes were blinking from Eddie to around the room, shaking it fear at something he could see that Eddie couldn’t. “Water. It’s everywhere.” He explained in a broken voice, still trapped inside his nightmare despite having woken up. “Evan, look at me. Just at me.” Eddie’s voice had taken more of a serious tone, his words still kind and it seemed to work, Buck letting his eye’s fall on Eddie’s own.
“There isn’t any water, love. You’re in our bed, you’re safe.” There was a tone in Eddie’s voice, one that begged for Buck to trust in what he was saying. “You trust me, yeah?” He asked, and despite the way that Buck’s mind was working against him he didn’t even hesitate before nodding his head, not wanting to reply on his voice right now. “Good, then trust me when I say that there isn’t any water in sight.” Eddie could tell that Buck’s mind was beginning to become his own once again, can see it in his eyes when he looked over Eddie’s shoulder and around the room.
“There isn’t any water…” Buck whispered, and that seemed to switch something in his mind because the moment he uttered those words he couldn’t help but burst into a fit of harsh sounding sobs. And Eddie didn’t even hesitate for a moment, he pulled Buck into his arms and let the younger man bury his face in the crook of his neck. Buck’s entire body was shaking under the force of his own crying, hands holding onto the front of Eddie’s shirt with a deadly tight grip.
“I have you, you’re okay. You’re okay.” Eddie soothed in the gentlest voice that Buck has ever heard, the tone deep and vibrations when he spoke helping Buck to accept that Eddie was here and alive. “You don’t need to talk right now, okay? I have you, we’re all safe and okay.” Eddie explained, knowing that Buck wasn’t someone who could find comfort in talking about his nightmares the moment it happened. It helped him to wait, until he was completely calm and not on the verge of passing out because of a panic attack; so Eddie wasn’t going to force him.
“I-I need to see Chris. P-Please.” Begged Buck, fearing that for some reason Eddie would deny the request to just walk down the hall and look into the kid’s room. But Eddie doesn’t do that, instead he pulls Buck away from his body just enough to smile comfortingly at him; taking a moment to cut the side of his face and use the pad of his thumb to wipe away tears. “Of course we can, sweetheart.”
Sighing in relief, Buck allowed himself to be helped up out of the bed and down the hall; Eddie refusing to let him go for even a second. Not that it was something that bothered Buck, instead it was something that was helping to ground him in reality. Eddie was quiet as he opened the door to Christopher’s room, beyond glad that the young boy had managed to stay a sleep even despite Buck yelling in his sleep. He turned his attention to Buck, able to see how the other man visibly sagged in relief when he saw that they kid was sleeping in bed; safe.
“Thank you.” Whispered Buck, looking up at his boyfriend with his eyes shiny with fresh tears, and Eddie smiled at him so softly as he closed the door to Christopher’s room. “You don’t need to thank me, baby. Not for this.” He reminded, not surprised at all when the other man didn’t decide to respond to what had been said. “Do you wanna go lay down, it’s still early?” Questioned Eddie, not moving from the hallway until he knew what it was that Buck wanted to do, what it was that would help him right now.
“I think I might make a cup of tea first.” Is what Buck had responded with and Eddie doesn’t feel any annoyance at not being able to go back to sleep, not when Buck needed him after the terrible night that he had just had. “Alright, you go ahead and sit on the couch, I’ll make it for you.” Eddie easily offered, because he also knows that his boyfriend prefers how he makes their tea anyway, always complaining that he can’t make it as good. “No wait, I wanna stay with you.” Buck quickly said, the panic in his eyes at being alone causing Eddie’s heart to clench painfully inside his chest. “Hey, that’s okay, love.” The dark haired man quickly consoled, not wanting Buck to feel bad for the sudden loud and begging tone. “Come on, then. Do you wanna talk now or in the morning?” Buck seemed to take a moment to think about the question he had been asked as they entered the kitchen, the taller one sitting at the table while Eddie worked away to make two cups of tea. “Uhm, tomorrow… if that’s alright?”
“That’s perfectly fine, Buck. We can take this at your pace, there isn’t any rush.” Buck couldn’t help but feel tears burn in his eyes again, unable to believe that someone as wonderful and patient as Eddie loved him. He wonders how the hell he got so lucky when Eddie asked him out on that date last year. “You’re amazing, Eds. You know that, right?” The words that Buck had said caused Eddie to smile bashfully, looking so damn handsome as he stood there doing something as making a cup of tea. “And you’re a sweetheart. You know that, right?”
Buck was so grateful for this, that Eddie was able to understand that he needed to distraction to keep his mind away from the nightmare that his own brain had forced upon him. Eddie was always able to be so understanding of what Buck needed without even having talk about it, because he knew Buck better than anyone else ever has before. And Buck is so deeply in love with him.
He just continues to listen as Eddie talks enough for the both of them, Buck’s smile soft and loving as he just takes in the scene. Just listening to Eddie ramble about whatever came to his head; a smile playing on his face the entire time.

7 Must-See Places to Explore in South Africa

Having lived in South Africa, I had the chance to explore the country. Having a great infrastructure, coupled with staggering landscapes, diverse, rich cultures, and unbelievable beauty, South Africa is one of Africa's most sought-after destinations. Renowned for its breathtaking sceneries, spectacular wildlife, beautiful beaches, and vibrant multicultural cities; South Africa has so many unique sites to discover that you could spend a lifetime exploring. Nestled at the southern-most part of the African continent and roughly spanning an area two times the size of California, South Africa is Africa's most iconic wildlife-touring destination. More often, when you think of the Big Five, Kruger National park comes to mind. Not only do you get a chance to see the king of the jungle, but you also get to see the magnificent view of Cape Town while relaxing atop the iconic Table Mountain. It is relatively easy to move around South Africa with the country's elaborate transport network. You can explore different places with ease either by car hire, rail or air transportation or you can drive yourself. Packed with so many places to visit, it is pretty hard to pinpoint which areas to explore and which one to leave for your next visit. Luckily we have compiled the best places you shouldn't miss while touring this incredible country.

2. Cape City
Consistently ranked as one of the best holiday spots in the world for honeymooners, families, groups, and lone travelers, Cape Town is one of the best tourist destinations in South Africa. Sitting on the mountainous peninsula between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, with the symbolic Table Mountain as its backdrop, this Mountainous City sits on some of the world's most remarkable tourism attractions. Breathtaking sceneries, intriguing museums, and many bars and restaurants, many of which can be found on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, make Cape Town a must-see attraction. Enjoy more scenic landscapes if you take a short drive outside the city. You will be mesmerized by the sandy beaches, rugged mountain ranges, and the small traditional fishing villages. Cape Town is appealing to practically anyone looking to have fun: honeymooners will appreciate the luxurious accommodations and picturesque views. Families with kids will love sharing the beach with curious penguins. The city's renowned food and wine experience are as enticing as its legendary and historic landmark: -The Table Mountain, a natural wonders of the world. Adventurers will have fun uncovering the secrets of Table Mountain.

Cape Town is a wonderful location to start your exploration of South Africa.
3. The Garden Route
This one tops the list, especially when it comes to South Africa holiday ideas for families, nature lovers, and outdoor fanatics. The Garden Route is a beautiful coastline stretching 200km in the East and West Cape Provinces of South Africa. This world-renowned length of coastline stretches for a couple of hours from Cape Town to the Plettenberg. Renting a car and driving yourself is the perfect way to enjoy a wonderful mix of picturesque indigenous forests, colorful towns, and rough sandy beaches along the way. The official Garden Route is a fantastic self-drive route from Mossel Bay in the west and stretches to Storms River in the east. Knysna is a strategic stopover town on the Garden Route with reasonable accommodations, all the attractions within easy reach. Visit the beautiful beaches within these vast landscapes, scenic lagoons, indigenous forest, and coves. Offshore see the friendly African penguins, dolphins, whales, and great white sharks. Mossel Bay has superb beaches, a museum showcasing the Portuguese explorer Bartholomew Diaz's life, who discovered the Famous Garden Route. Explore the bordering mountains; a trip to Oudtshoorn, the South African Ostrich industry with farms producing Ostrich feathers for extravagant hats and gigantic eggs is not to be missed. While outdoor activities are the main attractions on Garden Route (home to South Africa's best golf courses), delicious South Africa cuisine is never far away. Enjoy fresh oysters, and sunset boat rides at the famous Knysna Waterfront or a fast food place with a beach view in the neighboring Plettenberg Bay. 4. Cape Winelands Flanked by sub-splashing vineyards and rocky mountain peaks, the breathtaking valleys of Cape Winelands is best known for the great historic estates, beautiful little villages, five-star resorts, and the wine. The beauty of these Wineland's valleys surrounded by scenic mountain views is a real treat for to experience. Though the Winelands is an ideal option for romantic getaways and honeymooners, children enjoy the Winelands as well. There are roughly about 20 vineyards in Cape Winelands. However, the term refers to the three main vineyards in the region: - Stellen Bosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek, all located in mountainous countryside with stunning Alpine-style views. You can start our day testing different wineries while feasting on a home-style farm-to-table delicacy or stroll through the oak-lined sidewalks to local art galleries while taking in the breathtaking scenery. Despite being only one hour's drive from Cape Town, a few nights in this quaint mishmash of vineyards and mountains will wash away any lingering city stress. It is truly one of the fascinating places to visit in South Africa.

From Cape Town, rent a car and head to the Winelands. It is a beautiful area with great accommodations for all budgets. 5. Pilanesberg National Park Sitting at the heart of an ancient volcano and positioned next to a vast hippo-filled lake, the Pilanesberg National park is one of the top tourist attractions in South Africa, i.e. if you don't want to wander far from Johannesburg. Just a few hours from Johannesburg and right in front of the world-famous Sun City resort, this readily accessible park gives tourists an authentic safari experience. Home to some of the most fantastic wildlife, a game drive to Pilanesberg National park is frequently marked by incredible sightings of elephants, lions, brown hyenas, and a beautiful collection of birds. You can spend your day game – viewing, and if you are lucky enough, you will get to watch up-close as lions hunt. If you have seen enough animals, take to the sky riding in a hot air balloon for some picture-perfect views. The spectacular landscape and the lush greenery make for excellent photography, and since the park is outside the malarial belt, you won't need anti-malarial medication. 6. Sun City To be honest, Sun City is not one of my favorite places in South Africa, but travelers seem to love it. It is like Las Vegas and I would much rather be in nature. Sun City began as a "sin city," where gambling was allowed during the apartheid era, but ironically it was illegal elsewhere. The Sun City complex is located in Rustenburg, less than three hours’ drive from Johannesburg. It sits on Pilanesberg National Park's brink in an extinct volcano crater, which erupted millions of years ago. Sun City was constructed in the heart of this quiescent volcano crater. If you are looking for pure hedonism and endless entertainment, Sun City, also known as "the Kingdom of Pleasure," is the place to be. It is no exaggeration to say that Sun City offers the most vibrant range of South African holiday activities. Start your day playing golf in one of the famous golf courses. Then spend the afternoon relaxing at the slide-filled water theme park (Valley of the Waves) or go searching for the big five in the great Pilanesberg National Park, which is right next door. But don't assume the fun stops there; at night Sun City turns into a flashy hub of eateries, wine bars, casinos, and dazzling live shows. You will never want to leave Sun City. The world within a city resort complex includes four deluxe hotels, The Palace of the Lost City, two expansive golf courses, the Waterpark Valley of the Waves, a Grand casino, South Africa's finest concert and sports venues, and so much more. Most of the resort's activities are family oriented. 7. KwaZulu Natal It’s often stated that the locals know the best places to explore. When most South Africans go for a holiday, they often choose KwaZulu Natal as their vacation spot. KwaZulu Natal is home to brimming extensive five wildlife reserves, historical battlegrounds, soaring mountain peaks, and pristine waters of the Indian Ocean. If you are an independent – mind traveler, then KwaZulu Natal has some of the finest South Africa holiday spots for a bush and beach safari. Unlike the more sedate Garden Route, a KwaZulu Natal tour has other activities like scuba diving, battlefield excursions, and horseback riding in the scenic Drakenberg Mountain. For an authentic African experience, explore the northern part of KwaZulu Natal coupled with stunning beaches, excellent game reserves, and typical Zulu villages nestled together on sloppy hillsides near the historical battlefields. As you head further south, the terrain softens as the tropical winds pass through the countryside grasslands of the Natal highlands and down to Durban's colorful city. Our Final Word Nothing compares to the breathtaking and spellbinding sights that South Africa has to offer. This incredible country will impact you like on others. From the flourishing urban cities of Cape Town and Johannesburg to the vibrant indigenous Ba Kaap villages and the sun-kissed coasts, South Africa has it all in fashionable culture and history. As you explore South Africa, you will experience countless magical moments in every city mentioned in this article. I loved living there and having a chance to explore such a wonderful country.

We plan to update either Sun-Fri-Tues on a 2 week cycle, or once per week if we’re particularly busy, so just keep an eye out. Something EXTRA special is lined up for next chapter courtesy of @ubercelloczar, still figuring out how best to include it but it’s going to be amazing. Hope you enjoy!
“...and the foul beast looked me right in the eye as I tore it limb from limb! It put up a spectacular fight, but it was no match in the end.”
Moon placed a hand on her husband’s arm and raised a stern eyebrow. “River, dear, we don’t need to hear the story of every meal you eat. I think it’s making Globgor uncomfortable.” Globgor raised a giant hand, waving it in a so-so motion, and Eclipsa rubbed his neck reassuringly.
“Really? But it was vegetarian! Ate it too quickly to know if it was chicken or turkey,” he quickly mumbled before resuming his usual boisterous shouting, “but it was fowl alright!” Moon could only sigh in response; some things would never change with him, but she supposed that was part of his charm. From their position on Globgor’s shoulder at his current size, she could see half the town at a glance. Though many Mewmans still went by the old names for the various smaller kingdoms, there was a general agreement to still call the whole merged area Echo Creek. She’d been against it until Marco pointed out that just calling the small area carved out by the seven kingdoms “Mewni” was as silly as the prospect of only labeling his modest town “Earth,” and she couldn’t argue that. Abandoning even the very name of the home she’d ruled for decades, and known for even longer, wasn’t her first solution, but perhaps it was fitting. As their destination came into focus, she was reminded that giving up the ways of old could be for the best.
The ruins of Butterfly Castle, untouched for the last year and a half, loomed before them. Globgor gave a signal and began to shrink, keeping his upper body large enough to support them until they were a safe distance from the ground. “Remind me to stretch before carrying three people again,” he said, huffing and puffing as he windmilled his arm.
Eclipsa giggled behind her hand and got on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek. “Thank you, Globby.”
“Yes, thank you,” Moon warmly added. “We got here just in time for-”
A stout, older man in a blue uniform sprinted over to the group with a form in hand. He stopped to catch his breath for long enough that the four of them all had time to look around at each other in confusion. “Saw ya comin’ from a mile away but ya went to the other side of this here castle from what I was expectin’,” he wheezed. “Is one of you Butterfly?”
“Yes,” all four answered, much to the dismay of the man.
Moon got a closer look at the badge on his chest which read, “Police”. Ah, so he’s with the city. “Is this about the renovation clearance?”
“Yes, ma’am,” the officer drawled.
“That would be me, then. Are you the one performing the inspection of the premises?”
He shook his head. “No, ma’am, I was called by the inspector because there seems to be a bit of a mixup. A real noggin-scratcher, let me tell you. I can show you, if you’ll all just follow me.” River leaned over to Globgor and whispered something in his ear that made both snicker. Moon rolled her eyes and elbowed both before leading the others behind the policeman; though she normally found their shenanigans charming, today of all days was not the right time for nonsense..
Ever since magic had been destroyed, Moon had spent far too many hours idly dwelling on the next step of her life without feeling like she was taking meaningful action. Almost a year ago, on the eve of the newly christened Christumpmasday - a dreadful portmanteau, Moon thought, but at least the Stump itself had been no more - Star and Marco had first made her consider the legacy she wanted for the Butterfly Kingdom. Queen Moon the Undaunted might have focused on projecting its strength and valor to the world, but she was just Moon Butterfly now, and she was well aware of how many flaws it had always had - some of them her own doing. The people of Earthni deserved to get to know the history of magic and the seven kingdoms as it truly was, and the castle she’d always called home seemed like the perfect place to do that. But if she was going to do things the right way this time, she needed to go through the proper channels, and that’s what brought them here today.
“So officer,” Globgor asked as they continued around the base of the castle, “what exactly is the issue here?”
“Well, I just got here a minute before I saw ya coming in so I only got to take a quick look, Mr…”
“We’re all Butterflies.”
“Ah, yes.” He slowed down briefly and spoke to River and Globgor directly, eyeing them curiously. “Pardon my prying, but I wouldn’t have thought you two were, how do I put this… related?”
“Oh, heavens, no,” Eclipsa chuckled. “Moon and I are, um… well, it’s still quite complicated, but we’re the related ones. Our husbands took our names.” It took a moment to click why anything would’ve seemed odd, but Moon did recall hearing about Earth’s marriage customs (though they still felt foreign to her).
The officer scratched his head with both eyebrows raised. “Gosh, Mewni was like that? That’s awfully neat. Can’t go a day around this here town anymore without learning something new. Anywho, some lady showed up hootin’ and hollerin’ to the heavens about how whatever plans ya had for this place were a sham, I think, and she stormed past the inspector to keep anyone from entering. Made a real big fuss over it. We’ll see what we can do but I’m afraid I can’t let ya onto the premises if it puts you in any danger.”
“The inspector said this afternoon was the only opening she had for months,” Moon muttered, aghast.
“Awfully sorry, just doing my job, ma’am.” When their destination came into view, Moon spotted a woman with a hard hat and orange vest among the gawking crowd- the inspector, she recalled from her previous meetings. Though the expressions among those gathered varied from amused to unsettled, all pointed in the clear direction of the entryway to the castle.
“Who would even want to cause such a kerfuffle around this?” River asked, echoing Moon’s own thoughts. They’d kept it quiet, hadn’t they? Though her expertise in Earth government was limited, she was fairly certain this sort of thing wasn’t public. No one outside of the city officials they’d made contact with should have known… she’d simply submitted a letter with some information and set up an appointment with the receptionist, who surprisingly enough had turned out to be Manfred. Wait, when she’d last seen Manfred… Everything clicked in her mind just a moment before they came face to face with the answer to her unspoken question.
“Well, well, well... we meet again, monster smoocher.”

The telltale whoosh of the flame column signalled to Star that she had arrived at her destination. Hopping out of the carriage, she rounded the corner and bounded towards the front door of the Diaz house. She hadn’t thought Tom would be so into event planning, but Marco was going to love it. Even though they’d gotten into a nice rhythm managing work and school and free time with friends, a relaxing day off was just what the doctor ordered.
She was so distracted she didn’t even realize her foot was colliding with the door, kicking it open and revealing the Diaz living room. Marco was lounging on the couch in his hoodie and a pair of shorts; his only reaction to her sudden entrance was to nonchalantly move the TV remote and soda can out of the way, barely in time to catch her when she pounced on top of him.
“You’re getting better at that,” Star commented, propping herself up on her elbows to look Marco in the eye and bop his nose with hers.
“Have to be if I don’t want to have to scrub juice out of the couch all the time,” he retorted, rolling his eyes and pecking her on the lips. His fingers idly twirled her hair as she settled down into their usual couch cuddling position, her head resting on his chest. Happy, sad, angry, lonely… there was no situation that couldn’t be improved by a Marco hug. She sank into the warmth of his embrace and let the stress wash off of her for a few moments, sighing softly. “So, everything go OK with Janna?”
“Wha?” Pegasus feathers, Butterfly, did he find out?
“You said you were helping Janna with something?”
Right, that’s what she’d told him. “Yes, Janna! Totally, totally, totally… just helping Janna Banana with... girl stuff. And Janna stuff. You wouldn’t get it.”
“Not sure I’d want to.”
Having sufficiently recharged her snuggle battery, she hopped off the couch and bounced in place with excitement, helping him up as well. “Enough of that. You ready for one of the best days of the year?”
“Underworld Beach Day!” They both shouted.
Marco pounded a fist into his other hand with a determined grin on his face. “We’ve gotta find the Skellies for that volleyball rematch after last year. I know we can take them this time.”
“Yeah, Skellies…” She nodded along with a sly smile, knowing the true plans for today would be that much better.
“Let me get my sunblock.”
“It’s underground, Marco!”
“The lava glow can still mess with my pores!” he whined before disappearing into the kitchen.
Looking out the front door, she discreetly motioned over the skeleton horse that was barely visible through the bushes. Nothing was going to ruin this surprise! Poking her head back into the house and checking to make sure she hadn’t been found out, she called out in Marco’s direction. “Oh hey, the carriage is already here! It’s so convenient, we probably just shouldn’t question it at all! C’mon Marco!” She turned back around and took one step out the door, immediately bumping into someone with enough force to send her onto her butt. Star shook her head and took the offered hand to stand up, finally seeing who it was. “Hi Mom! How are yo-”
“Star, could I borrow you for a short while?”
“What? Mom, nooooo, it’s Marco’s birthday.... tomorrow, which is why we’re just having a totally normal day at the beach today!” Star shouted, aiming her voice back into the house for Marco’s benefit since her mom already knew about the secret surprise party plans.
“I’m terribly sorry, sweetie… this is rather important. It shouldn’t take too long, I hope.” Underneath the apologetic smile was a serious tone that made Star hesitate before protesting further. A normal Mom worry was more like “Star, don’t try to stack warnicorns” or “River, you’ll get sick if you eat that entire mewffalo” and she’d heard it enough times before to know it instantly, but this was something else entirely. It reminded her of how Tom had spoken earlier, which only concerned her more. Maybe Janna had been onto something earlier, which meant maybe this was something important… Yeah, guess I’m doing this. Still though, there wasn’t much they couldn’t accomplish quickly if they put their minds to it, so maybe it could be a quick and easy thing, and they could still have a blast at Marco’s party. When she’d finally gotten the experience of a birthday all to herself after years of dealing with the Stump, she’d immediately resolved to never again let a friend miss their own birthday fun. Never mind that it wasn’t his actual birthday yet, dangit, no errand was going to derail the super special surprise party for her Marco!
As if on cue, Marco emerged from the kitchen with a pack full of supplies. “Alright, Star, I’m- oh, hey, Moon.”
“Marco, you should get going to the beach… Tom’s waiting for you. I mean… probably. Why else would the carriage be here? Mom just needs me to help with an errand for a teeeeensy bit. Peasy squeezy, breezy wheezy!” Her eye twitched. Great job, Star, totally sold it!
“Oooooookay, then.” Marco raised an eyebrow suspiciously. “Let me know if you need any help, you know I don’t mind.”
“Pssssht, naaaaaaaw. Ain’t nothin’ two Butterflies can’t handle.”
“Alright, see you there,” he said, pecking her on the cheek on his way out the door. He smiled and waved goodbye before the carriage whooshed into the ground.
Globgor lifted Star up to his shoulder to sit next to her mother. The cool fall air rippled through Star’s hair as they ascended above the buildings around them; Globgor only got this big for travel when they needed to be somewhere fast. “Alright, spill. What’s going on?”
Moon sighed and folded her hands together, shifting uncomfortably in her seat. “Well, you see, Star... I know you and I have had our differences when it comes to our former kingdom. I’ve spent a lot of time the past year reflecting on its ways, its history, and especially its legacy. Time and time again, we- I repeated the mistakes of our ancestors, and the people of Earthni deserve to know the full story.” She unfurled a thick document from her satchel and handed it to Star, who immediately began skimming the pages. Wait, what was she doing with-
“The old Butterfly Castle?”
“We’re beginning restoration efforts soon to turn it into a place where people can remember and learn. This was actually supposed to be a birthday gift of sorts for you.”
Star crossed her arms and arched her brow inquisitively. “Uh-huh... how exactly is this for me?”
“I want you to advise the project.” Star’s eyes widened in shock. After everything they’d been through, she was being dragged into a big Mewni project again? Any angry retorts were stifled when her mom rested a hand on Star’s own, keeping the other for balance on their precarious perch in the sky. “Star, dear, I know this isn’t the sort of thing you want to do anymore, and it doesn’t need your undivided commitment. I’m not asking as Queen, or even as your mother. Time and time again you’ve displayed wisdom pertaining to these matters well beyond your years, and I shouldn’t- I can’t turn it into a place where anyone can see our history, our people, and all our flaws and strengths for what they truly were without the help of someone who could already do that for herself long before I could.”
Both fell silent for a few moments, deep in thought. The motherly pride and respect warmed Star’s heart immensely, and though it felt weird to think about, she was proud of her mother as well. But… was this the sort of legacy Star Butterfly wanted to leave behind? Hadn’t all of her last efforts on Mewni been to cast aside the undeserved authority her family had? It was certainly a noble aim, but something about it still bothered her. “I’ll… I’ll have to think about it.”
The warmth in the smile Star received proved beyond any doubt that there was no lingering trace of Queen Moon in her solicitation. “I understand.”
“Sooooo what’s the deal with all this, then?” Star flailed her hands wildly in their general direction of travel.
“Our initial construction plans were scheduled to be approved today, but then there was… an unfortunate incident. Mina has returned.”
Star felt her eyes try to bulge the whole way out of her head, as if forced out by her brain exploding at this reveal. “The Mina? Mewman soldier Mina? Evil push-all-monsters-off-a-cliff Mina? Cuckoo-bananas bathe-in-mud Mina? What the heck are we taking any time talking for, then? The whole town could be in danger!”
“No, Star, it’s not- well, yes, it is, but she has no powers. She’s just a regular person who is slightly, as you said, ‘cuckoo-bananas’, though I don’t recall any mud involved. Before we arrived, she had broken into the castle ruins and is now holding it hostage. Manfred might be involved, as well. You’re the only one who might be able to talk some sense into her, or at least figure out how to get her to leave. The city has given us until midnight to get the permit.”
Midnight? But that’s when the Soulrise was… Star had a sinking feeling that this day wasn’t going to be a short one, but this mattered too much to her mother to say no. “I can try,” she said, squeezing her mom’s hand.
Globgor began to shrink as they approached their destination, where she could see Eclipsa’s billowing purple dress and her dad sporting an uncharacteristically formal outfit - heck, they must have really planned for this if he was wearing a shirt and pants at all. She shivered a bit as her feet touched the ground; of all the superhuman genes the Johansens seemed to possess, immunity to the cold just had to be the one she didn’t inherit.
“Thank goodness you’re here, Star,” Eclipsa said gratefully. “It’s far too chilly out today. Mina won’t hear a word from me, I’m afraid… perhaps she’ll listen to you.” She pointed up towards a jagged shard of a ruined wall where Star saw the telltale purple braids.
“Mina!” Star shouted.
“Oh look, it’s my traitorous ex-mud-sister. Back for another round with little old me? I can still take ya any day of the week, you know!” Mina rocked back and forth, still clinging to a stone outcropping. There was no way that was comfortable in the slightest. Did she even feel pain?
“I just want to talk! I’m coming up there!”
Star took one step forward before Mina shrieked. “Bup bup bup! This here castle is for real Mewman patriots only! I got nothin’ to say to you. You can talk to my associate.”
A snobbish man stepped out from the ground-level entryway quickly enough to suggest he’d been waiting there. With his sharp black suit and slicked back hair, it took all the Butterflies only a moment to realize who it was, and they all groaned at the realization. “At your service, m’ladies,” he said sarcastically. Star hadn’t particularly missed Manfred’s snooty meddling in her day to day life, and it wasn’t any more welcomed now. “I will deliver a message to Ms. Loveberry if you so wish, as long as it’s not from the brutish monster.”
Only two minutes into this debacle and Star felt her patience run out entirely. She might have been sardonically impressed if she wasn’t already over this entire affair. “No, I’m going up there.”
River poked her shoulder and leaned in, his eyes narrowing and darting back and forth. “Actually, I wouldn’t mind asking - has she seen the stash of jelly tarts I left in a cupboard years ago?” Star rolled her eyes and walked forward despite Manfred’s protests, with Moon and Eclipsa not far behind. “Alright, nevermind sweetie! Go get ‘em!”
When Manfred tried to get in their way, Globgor stepped between them with his arms crossed, causing the feeble man to cower in overstated fear. “Oh, goodness me, help! The evil monster, he’s intimidating me to oppress my free spee-” Out of the corner of her eye, Star noted no one in the crowd had stepped up to join Manfred or oppose their group, and it lifted her spirit the tiniest bit. Moon took the lead, navigating around all the rubble and climbing up to a safer portion of the wall more level with Mina’s position. So this is what’s left of it. Despite everything, Star hadn’t checked out the castle at all in the years since it stopped being her home. It had been right there, ready for her to make peace with at any time since the dimensions fused, but she just… hadn’t. Maybe it was guilt, maybe it was disdain, maybe it was just being so much happier with what she had now that there was no reason to look back. Narrowly dodging the shards of a broken bust, they continued forward towards the stairs. Seeing it all again, though, made Star think her mother had a point. Their kingdom’s history was full of vital lessons and cautionary tales, but how could the people of Earthni learn them from piles of rubble?
Though Manfred had switched to prim and proper Earth fashion, Mina clung to the remnants of the architecture in the same outfit as always, twirling the braids she’d often used as propellers. From the rips and tears, Star suspected it was literally the same outfit and shuddered. When Mina noticed their presence, she wheeled to face them.
“What do you even want, Mina?” Moon asked. “What’s your game here?”
“Game? This ain’t no game, Moony. I’ve been alive and kicking for even longer than she has,” Mina jeered as she pointed at Eclipsa, “and I’ve spent my whole time fighting for Mewni and the Mewmans - real Mewmans - and I’m not about to let you make a mockery of everything that made our kingdom great.”
“There is no Mewni anymore!” Star huffed as she threw her hands in the air. “There hasn’t been for over a year! And it happened right after you lost!”
“Pfft, you had to give up everything just to keep me from obliterating every last one of you, and it got rid of all your little unicorn stampedes and rainbow blasts, too. Do you think I’m scared of you now? I’d be more worried about that little half-monster brat than whatever half-baked excuse for queens you all are, and she’s not even here!” A giggle erupted down below. Eclipsa scurried over and peeked, gasping as she reached over the edge of the wall and pulled up… Meteora? How had she-
“She must have been nesting in my beard!” River’s voice boomed from the ground below.
The baby cooed at her mother but got a glimpse at the fuming Mina and frowned. “Bad!” She shouted. “Badbadbadbadbad!” Eclipsa struggled to keep her secure in her arms but ultimately won out, lulling the child back to calm.
Mina took the opportunity to hop across a few footholds closer to the tower, still acting dominant and in control. “So you have the little snot now, big whoop! I’ve got an army again, too!” She backed off and ducked behind a pillar in the courtyard. Moments later, they were greeted by… a carefully decorated sock on her hand?
“Mina’s right, monsters are bad!” it said in Mina’s obvious attempt at a deep man’s voice. A second sock joined it, adorned with grass for hair. “Yes,” it chimed in with a high-pitched effeminate cadence, “I can’t stand living in this world with all these lazy monsters hogging stuff from the hard-working people that deserve it!” Confusingly, a third popped in. “And I’m terribly frightened of what they might do to my children!”
“Say what you will, but she is quite talented at puppetry. I didn’t know toes could wiggle quite like that,” Eclipsa snickered from over Star’s shoulder. If she wasn’t just so incredibly done with all of this already, Star might have laughed along - it was becoming increasingly clear how little of a threat Mina posed.
A second later, Mina popped back out and stood before them, visibly missing the sock on her left foot. “See, everyone is saying it!”
Moon buried her face in her hands out of frustration and dragged them down with enough force that her features momentarily sagged. “I don’t have time for these charades, Mina. Your childish tomfoolery ends now. The people of Earthni deserve to see this place and its history that actually existed, not whatever made up fantasy land you’ve concocted in your mind.”
“Hmmph, you do-gooders aren’t gonna budge, eh? Well, you know what, maybe I will let you rebuild this castle. That’d be swell, it was a beautiful place, alright. But Mewni was meant for Mewmans, so if you want to take that and turn it into some big dumb monument to monsters, you’ll have to go through me, and I don’t give up easy, and I ain’t leavin. Wonder how many folks are gonna want to come ‘round when Mina jumps out at em and bops them in the schnozz?”
Eclipsa stepped forward, still rocking Meteora gently back and forth to keep her at bay through all the commotion. “Stand down. The world’s changed, Mina. It doesn’t need any more of this lunacy. Wouldn’t you rather simply live out your life and find happiness?”
“Ha! As if! Seems a lot of people have fallen for your fabricated Mewni malarkey, but not me! I won’t put up with your fake Mews! If you want to stop me, you’ll have to catch meeee!” She rocketed off into the castle. The Butterflies glanced into the corridors in disbelief at just how pointless this all was, but Mina had vanished.
Star folded her arms and curled up into herself a bit as she started to walk away, but felt her mother’s hand pat and squeeze her shoulder sympathetically. “Sorry, dear…”
“Go get Dad and Globgor,” she responded exasperatedly, ignoring her mother’s apology. She knew that there were honest good intentions here, and she did want to at least get Mina out of their hair, but she couldn’t help but be a bit grumpy at the situation she’d been dragged into. “Let’s find her.”
The family, along with a few of the officers who’d shown up, went their separate ways looking for the former kingdom’s final foe. Sunset had come and gone while they searched to no avail and Star found herself slowing down and thinking about her friends and the fun they were probably having. Trying to stave off the mopiness, she idly scrolled through the Marco album on her phone while she searched, her eyes spending equal amounts of time roving the dusty remains of the castle and fondly gazing at the smiles and joy on her friends’ faces. And maybe a bit of ogling Marco’s cute butt in those swim trunks; it never failed to do funny things to her. The most recent picture Janna had sent her as part of their weird tradition was instead centered on Tom trying (and failing) to sneak a pained look at Janna, and had an attached message corroborating the vibe from earlier. So it’s not just me that thinks he was acting really dodgy about something.
A moment later, her Space Unicorn tone - one that was reserved for Marco - went off. Before she’d even finished reading the first text, it played a second time.
“Hey, how’s your thingy with Moon going? We’re missing you here! Let me know when you’re done, we saved half the cake for you. ♥”
“Also, let me know if you need me for anything, I’m here for you.”
Ugh, Marco, why do you have to be so dang sweet and caring? Another set of eyes could maybe help, and she wouldn’t mind having him around to ease the boredom at all, but Star wasn’t going to yank him out of his birthday party even if he’d go willingly. And admittedly she was curious what the deal was with Tom. Janna Banana was near and dear to her, but Star still would’ve been insane to rely exclusively on her if Tom needed a heart-to-heart.
After scanning the empty closet she’d wandered towards, she hastily punched in a message to Marco. “Mina’s back. Long story, not what you think, we’re fine here 👍. Kinda crazy tho. 😵 Will tell you later. 😈 acting a bit strange, stay and try to see why? 🤔 Also have fun, it’s your party!!!!🎊🥳🎉🎈 Hopefully will be done soon, would never miss 👻rise with you 💕💞💏 Love you 😘🥰😻”
With that out of the way, and a small smile returned to her face, she slid her phone into her purse and buckled down on the task at hand. Phone pictures of Marco and a fun birthday party were nice, but she had to get to work if she wanted any chance of the real thing. She nimbly hopped over the crumbled busts and assorted rusty parts of weapons and armor that covered most of the floors and stairways she encountered. Whatever her mom wanted to do here would require a ton of work, and Star could see why she was so eager to get started. Her explorations finally led her to a hallway that stopped her in her tracks. The tapestries of many of the former Queens of Mewni hung before her. Celena, Jushtin, her actual grandma, Comet… all had been torn nearly to shreds and reassembled. Her mom had mentioned what Mina had done here when they sat down not long after the Cleaving to share everything that had happened and make up - a conversation that lasted through more pots of tea than Star could count on her hands - but it was still jarring to see up close. Star slowly made her way to the end of the hallway and into the secret room, where- wasn’t Solaria’s portrait supposed to be here?
“Hyah!” Star was blinded and wrestled to the ground, all movement impeded by a thick canvas on top of her entire body. She was pushed sideways and had the fabric rolled around her like a tube constricting her arms. Pushing forward on her knees, she managed to wiggle the top of her head. Dangit, dangit, dangit. Suspicions confirmed: Mina had pounced on her with Solaria’s tapestry and a bit of help from Manfred. “Gotcha now! I’m slipperier than a slime snake!” Mina gloated, plopping down on top of Star and knocking the breath out of her. “Maybe they’ll take a hostage situation a bit more seriously, hehe!”
“Oh, my goodness, is the little ex-princess in trouble? ‘Tis an awful shame,” Manfred joined her, his voice dripping with gleeful sarcasm. “M’lady, we should abscond soon. The others should be arriving shortly.”
Mina patronizingly patted the top of Star’s head. “Aw nuts, I wanted to have a little bit more fun with my new caterpillar buddy! How’s it feel, Star? As long as I’ve still got eight fingers, eleven toes, and three beating lungs, this world ain’t gonna be taken over by ‘equality’ horsedoodie, you hear me? Monsters are scum, and the world would be a better place if they all took a nice long vacation to Off-a-Cliffsville.”
Star wanted to kick and punch and scream her lungs out. How many times can you ruin everything I care about? While flailing about, she tried to keep herself from grinning too obviously when she noticed a new arrival. She redoubled her efforts to cause a scene and keep the focus on herself so that Mina wouldn’t notice her real hope of escape crawling across the ceiling. Just need to distract… “You’re right, Mina, I can’t beat you. There aren’t any warriors like you.”
“Lookie here, Manny, she’s having a change of heart? What did I tell you? Glad to see someone’s finally letting the logical facts into her thick little noggin.”
“Yep, that’s exactly what I’m doing. But I do have a fun fact for you, though.”
“Oh?”
“There is a warrior a lot more adorable than you, with way sharper teeth.” Star looked above Mina and nodded, and by the time Mina followed her gaze it was too late. Meteora dive-bombed and lashed out, knocking Mina to the ground and forcing her to deal with a pawing, clawing toddler. Manfred cowered in the corner uselessly while Meteora continued to thrash about. The noise must have echoed throughout the castle, as she heard the search squad’s footsteps approaching the scene. Without the two bodies sitting on top of her, Star freed herself from her binding in a minute, by which point everyone else had arrived just in time to corner Mina. Globgor called out to Meteora and got her to back off, leaving behind a very battered and bruised Mina and an indignant Manfred.
Mina glared daggers at the crowd gathering around her, who all seemed a bit too concerned at her instability to make any sudden moves. “Oh, so that’s how it’s gonna be with you mooks. Little old me just has a slight difference of opinion and this is how I’m treated? Don’t we live in a society? Instead I’m getting stomped on like a masochistic bushel of grapes!” Her beady green eyes darted frantically around the crowd, causing most to shrivel from the ferocity of her deranged gaze. Tense seconds went by before she finally softened up, gently smiling. “Y’know what, you win. If you want the castle so bad, it’s yours. Just gonna need a friendly barter in return…” The Butterflies all exchanged nervous glances. “You can have your little phony dream house here, but I get to enact my brand of Mewman justice on that ugly rock you monster-smoochers call a temple!”
Moon stepped forward to grab Mina’s arm but was narrowly dodged. “Mina, that’s enough. Everything you’ve said is preposterous, we won’t stand for it.”
“Bit too late on that one, Moony,” Mina taunted, wagging her finger back and forth. The subtle light from the moon and stars streaming through the jagged hole in the ceiling in the room suddenly faded, leaving them all with only the dim glow of the torches lining the walls. Overbearing squawking and flapping sounds, magnified by their echoes throughout the hallways around them, assaulted Star’s ears. She only barely caught the “Gotta fly!” Mina shouted as she was lifted up and out of the room. As the light streamed back in, Star finally saw the culprit: a massive murder of trained crows hauling her through the sky with alarming speed, presumably towards the Monster Temple.
“We have to stop her!” Star shouted, turning to run towards the castle entrance. She stopped when she realized the police officers present weren’t following. “Um, excuse me? A little help? That maniac is about to go destroy my family’s house!”
One of the officers, an older man she recognized from her time on Earth, wrung his hat in his hands. “Hmm, well, gosh, that sure is a pickle… Bit extreme, I’d say, but it’s always nice to see passion from young folks like yourselves. Both of you might have a point, so maybe you should just try sitting down and having a nice calm talk about it. Call us later if there’s still an issue, though!”
A scream erupted in Star’s throat, raw and animalistic. Stupid, stupid, useless! Leaving the officers behind, she and her equally flabbergasted family bolted back towards the exit to track Mina down. The dark bird cloud was still in sight when they exited the castle, nearly bowling over some onlookers and reporters who’d shifted their attention to the birds that had just swarmed out of the scene.
“She’s flying over a bunch of houses, I don’t think I can chase her directly,” Globgor said after growing to survey the distance Mina was covering.
“The Eagle Queen taught me how to speak bird, I’m sure I remember some of it.” River shouted, squatting down. “Now, Globgor, toss me!” Globgor picked River up and threw him in a straight line, enlarging his hand to add to the momentum of the throw. Star cringed as her dad soared through the sky. “Squa-squakah!” he hollered, his voice cracking. The birds parted, leaving a hole in their formation through which he promptly flew right through. “They don’t like me!” he hollered, his voice fading as he fell out of view. Daaaaaad.
“Well,” Moon said, taking a beat to sigh disappointedly, “I’m open to other suggestions.”
Star’s phone buzzed in her pocket; it was another of Janna’s kinda weird but somehow sweet candid Marco camera check-ins. Now’s not the time to tempt me with Marco abs!, she mentally groaned after opening the image. Wait, how is he surfing on LAVA? I know it’s the Underworld, but- Wait a second... Underworld, demon powers, carriage - they could get to the Temple right away!
Her eyes drifted towards the attached message: “ugh tom being super weird, stormed off. did he tell u anything? actually worried about him, haven’t seen him this bad since drama with u. rly dont know how 2 help, can i hang w/ u? dont drool over pic too hard lol” It stopped Star in her tracks for a moment: yes, the immediate situation was a crisis, but Janna being genuinely concerned? Now that was a cosmic anomaly. Star sent a response quickly checking in with the state of things (with an innocent inquiry about Marco abs - cut her some slack, she’s only Mewman) and passed along a message for Marco to stay and check in with Tom. Star was so angry at Mina and at the cops and at never being free of dealing with this freaking warnicorn manure that she wanted to karate chop an entire forest, and Tom and Marco didn’t need that messing up their days even more. But if Janna already needed an excuse to leave, well, Star wouldn’t complain.
“We can still beat them there, let’s not dally,” Eclipsa said, hopping on her husband’s shoulder. “Everyone, get on.” Once Star sent the relevant details and instructions, she followed her mother and off they went. As the minutes passed, Star remained silent while the others strategized, an atmosphere of helpless déjà vu permeating her spirit. Just like the first time facing down Mina, she knew she was just curling up and hiding, but she felt as if there was a seductively depressing whisper in her ear telling her that nothing had changed and that there was no hope of escaping the loony bigots trying to strongarm society. Even changing the world hadn’t been enough, and though she’d still seen growth on the whole, what did it say that the Minas of the world kept popping back up like a horrible game of whack-a-goblin?
Soon after, they finally arrived at Monstertown and dismounted. Eclipsa had at least been right about one thing: the ominous cloud flying in was still at least a minute or two away, though oddly there was no one else to be seen. Janna was supposedly here, according to a text received while Star had been lost in thought on the ride over, but that was the last anyone had heard from her. With seemingly nothing left to do, and not much of a plan, Globgor grew into a one man wall protecting the temple while everyone else readied to defend however they could.
Mina descended, keeping most of her birds circling above her. The defensive line of Butterflies swatted away any that got too cocky, but they were slowly being forced back. Star got knocked over into some mud and was helped up by Eclipsa, and scowled at the damage to her outfit she’d picked out for the beach. “Did the big ugly monsters run away all scared-like? Bah, I wanted to crush ‘em myself, but oh well, I can still have my fun. They’ll be all ‘Oh no, my big dumb mud hut’s gone! Where will I keep all the Mewman babies I want to eat?’” She cackled wildly, and it got on Star’s nerves even more than before. In the background, something peculiar glinted in the moonlight. Star squinted in an attempt to make it out, but she quickly realized what was actually happening when the surrounding area shimmered and revealed an upright chameleonoid monster. It had caught Star looking and used its tail to point at what Star now saw was one of Janna’s potion bottles before blending in once more. What effect it might have, she never knew, but help was help. Just have to distract. Again.
“Hey Mina!” Star yelled, diverting Mina’s attention from the wall of a home she was preparing to bash down. “I thought you were gonna tear down the Temple! Why be cruel to some random monsters’ houses? Aren’t you trying to protest your rights or something?”
Eclipsa turned in confusion. “Star, what-” Star shushed her and tried to indicate with a sharp glare that there was a plan in motion here.
The disgraced warrior tapped her chin for a moment before shrugging. “I kinda like both,” she stated matter-of-factly and wound up for another blow.
“Oh dear, Star,” Eclipsa whispered dramatically, clearly loud enough for anyone nearby to hear. “What are you doing? Don’t you realize all the monsters are probably huddled up in the temple right now?”
“Is that so? Huh, maybe you are useful for something after all. Get ready to kiss ‘em goodbye, then, since I know how much you love doing that.” Mina whistled sharply, gathering a cloud of concentrated feathery darkness around her. “Say goodnight to your mamas. Atta- ech,” she sputtered, wrapping her arms around her sides in a coughing fit. “Golly, monster musk must be getting to me. Now, attack, my pretties!” All the birds lazily circled around her for a moment before plummeting to the ground in a giant heap. “What the corn-” She stumbled and gagged a few more times, falling victim to the gas cloud that Star could now see billowing from the potion bottle, incapacitating all the birds that had inhaled it.
To her right, Star noticed a dirt-covered hatch in the ground pull back as a few unidentified creatures crawled out of it. Mina noticed too late and was tackled to the ground by someone from that group that seemed familiar... Penelope! Star’s face lit up in awe as she recognized the former Spiderbite princess, who held Mina down while she futilely thrashed. A monster with a glowing tail had joined them, which allowed Star to see Slime slink over and quickly slather some goop onto Mina’s arms and legs that bound her to the ground.
“You guys!” Star ran over and yanked the couple into a tight hug for a more-than-welcome reunion. “That was amazing!” The monster that Star just now dubbed Glowtail wrapped its tail around Mina’s mouth to cover up her attempted protests.
“Hey, Star. And Big G, and the other Butterflies,” Slime said, indicating the rest of her family. “Yeah, well, Penny’s totes great.” Slime wrapped an arm around his girlfriend’s shoulders - well, it was more of him just wriggling his gelatinous form into her side. “She can wrestle spiders the size of a dog.”
“Hey, you’re the one that figured out how to make your slime do all that stuff, like glue people’s hands and feet down,” Penny lovingly said, kissing his cheek. Star hadn’t seen them in many months despite visiting Monstertown, often because Slime had been spending a lot of time living as a healer/celebrity in the Forest of Unlikely Spiderbites.
“Just gotta swallow some gum, wait a few minutes, and bam.” He clapped his hands together and stretched them apart to demonstrate how sticky they were. “There’s all kinds of stuff I can do to change it up.”
“Pineapple’s a lot of fun,” Penny mischievously added. Wasn’t there some sort of urban legend about that fruit on Earth? Wasn’t it supposed to… oh. Star’s face heated up when she drew the connection, enough that she was thankful when Mina screeched with an intensity sufficient to cut through their conversation, even with a fluffy tail still stuffed in her mouth.
Glowtail shuddered, running away, presumably to go wash the Mina spittle out of its tail. “Monsters can’t even fight me by themselves! Let me go, you nincompoops!”
“Mina-” Moon sternly grumbled.
“Look, L,” Slime casually interrupted, and though Moon was surprised she relinquished focus to him. “Working together is, like, pretty cool. We made these big community plans if anyone like you ever showed up again. That creepy human girl warned us, my super rad Mewman girlfriend took you down, and a bunch of other monsters made the plans for evac,” he stated as their chameleon friend nodded emphatically. A handful of other monsters lurked around them, presumably having been stationed elsewhere in the village and just now received the signal for it to be safe to check out the action.
“Mewni sucked when everyone was just snobby and mean anyway,” Penny added, giving her boyfriend a lopsided smile. “Everyone in my old kingdom was always covered in spiderbites but we’d just say ‘well at least we’re not those dirty monsters’, but that’s just dumb. Why live like that? Everyone here has been so welcoming, why can’t you?” Mina finally fell silent, hanging her head in what Star might have thought was shame if that didn’t seem so farfetched. “Ugh, it’s too late for this. I’ll go get the others so we can figure out what to do with her. Stay here and make sure she doesn’t go anywhere?” she said as she turned to Slime
He gave a thumbs up and sat down on the ground “You got it, babe.”
“Bye, Star! We should hang out more!”
“Yeah, bye, Penny!” Star waved before turning back towards Slime and a forlorn Mina. “So what now?”
Slime glanced around at the other gathered townsfolk who were calmly keeping watch, though a bit tired and disgruntled. “We’re fine here, if you’ve got somewhere to be. We’ve got stuff under control. Look, I can tell you’re worried, and I’m super grateful for everything you did for us, but things are pretty good now. Feels like we can finally just be, y’know? And we’re ready for any other losers that have a problem with it.”
“Yeah,” she simply responded, getting a bit lost in thought. “Well, see ya.”
“Thank you, to everyone,” Moon succinctly added before the Butterflies all began to walk back towards the entrance to the Monster Temple.
Star felt her eyes glistening at the heartfelt togetherness on display that night, but the feeling was far more than that. She realized her mom must have misinterpreted that though, as she was pulled into a fierce bear hug. “Star, dear, don’t cry… I’m sorry you had to miss the festivities you had planned-”
“No, Mom, it’s not that, it’s just…” Star paused as she struggled to put her emotions into words. “Don’t you get it? This; all of this? This is Mewni!” Her family all looked a bit puzzled. “The castle is still a really cool idea, but the people who have been living and working to build a home together - they’re the ones that have always known Mewni best.”
“What do we make of the hootenanny at the castle, then?” Her dad asked, fending off Meteora’s attempts to poke at his eyes and nose as he held her.
“If you want some of it to be a museum with queens and wars and stuff, that’s fine, and Mom’s the most thorough organizer I know… but I think you should be asking what everyone else from Mewni might want to see.”
Eclipsa affectionately ruffled Star’s hair - something that’s never failed to make Star squirm in happy embarrassment. “Quite the wisdom coming from someone insisting they aren’t wise,” she jested. Star jumped at a terrifyingly loud snore from behind them, where River, Globgor, and Meteora had apparently all curled up on the ground together and promptly fallen asleep - Star couldn’t help but yawn herself at the sight.
She could really just crawl into bed right now until Soulrise… hehe, sunrise, not Soulrise, silly…. oh crud. “How late is it? Don’t we still need to get the castle inspected?” she said, adrenaline giving way to a weighty exhaustion that threatened to knock her out where she stood.
“Perhaps I’ll hold off for some time longer until I’ve had some more input,” her mom mused, putting both hands on Star’s shoulders. “I’m so, so proud of you. I want you to know that, Star.”
“Aww, thanks, Mom. I… I don’t mind helping, but being in charge of this sort of thing… that’s not right for me.”
Moon pulled Star into a gentle hug, and was soon joined by Eclipsa. “I understand, dear. Now go have fun with Marco and get some rest. I believe I spotted Janna in an alley that way pouring something into a puddle.” Star rolled her eyes and wandered off in search of her friend.
Blink. Blink.
Wha… wazzat, where am I? Star blinked a few more times and wiggled her fingers and toes. Ew, sand. Wait, sand? She rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand and found herself on the beach, resting her cheek on drool-stained red fabric. “Marco?”
“Hey, Star.”
“OhnodidImissit?” she slurred, slumping further into his side. The fog gradually lifted on the details of the past hour - she’d made it to the Underworld and groggily regaled Marco with the story of her day, she could recall that much. She remembered him saying he’d missed her, though he hadn’t been upset, but the rest of the details had been lost as she drifted in and out of sleep.
He shook his head and squeezed her shoulder affectionately as he pointed up above them. Star had to squint when she tried to look up, and after her eyes had adjusted she gasped. Spirits shrieked and soared in and around each other as the Soulrise put on its magnificent display above them. Different souls mingling in harmony was always a special sight to behold… maybe she couldn’t know Earthni’s exact destiny, but those that could fully embrace and understand each other unconditionally had a bright future ahead of them. The thought made her smile dopily at Marco, wholly secure and content as she buried her head into his delightfully pillowy shoulder. “Happbirdaymurrco,” she whispered, finally surrendering herself to slumber.

Crossfire | O. Diaz
Pairing : Oscar x Martinez!Reader
Timeframe : Season Two (Spoilers Ahead)
Summary : Spooky and Y/n are at a disagreement over what to do with Cesar, and everyone else is caught in the crossfire.
masterlist
A/N: Y’all didn’t request this. So I requested it for y’all.
*************
Spooky didn't keep things from me. He never did. Not even when he became a Santos and gradually managed to learn more about how the gang ran. He trusted me, just as much as I trusted him.
So, when I found out from Monse that he and the rest of the gang essentially disowned Cesar because of what happened, I was livid. But I also couldn’t help but wonder how long he though it would take before I found out. And whether or not he was hiding more.
“Babe, he’s just a kid,” I huffed.
Spooky and I were parked up in an empty parking lot, eating takeout, just like we did every other day. After bringing up the fact that I knew he kicked Cesar out, he immediately got defensive which led quickly to an argument.
“He’s grown enough to know better,” Spooky grumbled, before aggressively biting into his burger. It was clear, then, that this argument was not going to end well, because I was not willing to back down, and neither was Spooky.
“So, what?” I exclaimed, leaning back against my seat. “You’re just gonna leave him out there on his own? He made a mistake, Spooky-”
“-A really fucking stupid one,” he finished.
I roll my eyes and cross my arms. I hated arguing with Spooky, but it frustrated me even more that he was being so impossible about this. We work so well as a team, but the few times we come to a disagreement, things always got heated really fast.
“You’re being so impossible,” I muttered, furrowing my eyebrows together.
Spooky swallowed his food and kissed his teeth loudly, something he always seemed to do right before saying something he would soon regret.
“I don’t see how this is any of your business.”
My blood began to boil. It was one thing to be defensive about kicking Cesar out, but it was another to make me feel like an idiot for caring about him.
“I cannot believe you right now,” I spat, grabbing my bag strap from the ground, and turning to open my car door. Spooky, however, caught my wrist and kept me from leaving.
“Hey, wait baby,” he whispered, his voice and expression suddenly soft. “C’mon, I didn't mean it like that.... I just... This is between me and Cesar, okay. You don’t need to get involved.”
“I don’t need to get involved, or you don’t want me to get involved?”
“Don’t put words in my mouth, baby,” he pleaded.
I couldn’t help but let out a scoff, because despite his weak attempt at trying to take back what he said, it still really stung. And so I was still annoyed at Spooky.
“Whatever,” I muttered angrily, grabbing my bag with one hand and clutching the door handle with the other. This time, Spooky didn’t stop me. “But if something happens to him, because no one was there to protect him- not even his big brother- then... don't say I didn’t warn you.”
I opened the door, and began walking away from Spooky’s car.
“Where are you going?” He called out to me.
“None of your business anymore,” I yelled back, before turning my back on him and walking back to my house.
*******************
“No... No fucking way.”
I was in the middle of doing the laundry for everyone in the house, including Mario’s baby mama, when he and Ruby approached me. Apparently, Ruby was in a slump and Mario wanted to take him to a party at the Santos house to cheer him up.
The only issue was Spooky.
“C’mon, Y/n,” Mario pleaded, following down the hallway and into Abuelita’s bedroom where I placed her clothes back into her drawer. “Spooky won’t let us go unless we bring you.”
“I don’t care, Mario,” I retorted. “You can take Ruby somewhere else, there’s no way in hell I’m gonna go and see Spooky again.”
We hadn’t spoke since we last argued, but we had encountered one another several times since. However, each and every time our eyes met one another, I quickly walked ran in the opposite direction just to avoid him.
It seemed he was now desperate to get me to talk to him.
“What if I pay you?”
I froze for a moment. Then, after placing the rest of my grandmother’s clothes back tot where they belonged, I turned to my little brother and raised an eyebrow at him.
“How much?”
“Twenty,” he answered shortly.
“Thirty,” I responded, as I folded my arms. If I was gonna put myself in an uncomfortable situation so my brothers could party, I was going to at least get my money’s worth.
“Fine,” Mario grumbled, before pulling out his wallet and handing me my money owed, which I eagerly snatched from his hand with a smile on my face.
Until I remembered what I signed myself up for. And my smile immediately faded.
*******************
Normally, I would have felt uncomfortable being at a party with several sleazy gangsters. However, after being with Spooky for so many years, I gained their respect, so much so the other members either treated me like their sister or their daughter.
When we first arrived at the party, rather than getting excited in the way Mario had anticipated, Ruby walked straight to the nearest empty couch and plopped himself down, so I followed him there.
“Why is he doing this to me, Y/n?” Ruby groaned, resting his head against my shoulder. Mario, who somehow managed to already have a drink in his hand, sat on the other side of Ruby.
“I’m doing this, because I’m a good big brother,” he explained. “Now go and have some fun. Have a couple drinks. Have something to eat.... C’mon, I’ll introduce you to everyone.”
Mario and Ruby stood up at the same time, and proceeded to make the rounds. Before I could follow them, a familiar figure sat beside me and kept me from getting up.
“Hey.”
“What do you want, Spooky?” I asked in annoyance. I had several errands to run, all of which I put on hold so that my brothers could enjoy themselves, and because Spooky wouldn’t let them otherwise.
“I wanna talk,” he whispered, a hint of guilt noticeable in his voice. “Please, Y/n... Give me a chance to fix this.”
He had his arm around me, the way he always did, and he stared intently at me as he spoke. I normally loved the way he made me feel when he did that, but now I despised him for it, because of how quickly it made my heart beat.
“Uhm,” I coughed uncomfortably, before getting up from the couch. “I’m gonna get a drink.”
As I walked away, Spooky stayed seated on the couch. I didn’t need to look back to know that leaving him in the cold stung.
As I poured myself a drank, I glanced back at him and noticed him flaring his nostrils before leaning back and scanning the room with his signature look of stoicism.
“Why are you giving him such a hard time?”
I turned my head and saw Ruby, reorganising the drinks and new food he brought in. Trust him to assume the position of party planner, even for a party he had no direct involvement in.
“It’s complicated,” I replied.
“Sure...” Ruby cocked his eyebrow and glanced at me while he dished out the potato chips and the guacamole. “That’s what you say every time you fight, but it never ends up being all that complicated.”
“Don’t you have other things to be worried about than me and Spooky?”
As I spoke, Ruby’s eyes drifted off. He leaned over to the side, and a smile slowly grew on his face. I quickly turned around and instantly realised why he became so giddy so quickly.
“Yeah... maybe I do.”
As he spoke, several girls around my age walked into the party, all dressed up and wearing heels higher than the last.
****************
It had been an hour since those girls walked in, and after the first fifteen, one had taken it upon herself to sit closely next to Spooky on the couch. Too closely.
When I first noticed, I couldn’t hide my annoyance and Spooky instantly picked up on it. SO, being the little shit he was, he began encouraging the sat next to him, glancing over at me every few seconds to make sure I was watching.
And for some reason I couldn't look away.
“Hey, Y/n!”
My gaze is broken by arms wrapping themselves around my shoulders. I turned around and quickly realised that it was Angelica, a girl I was close friend with right up until she and my brother broke up.
“Oh my gosh, hi,” I exclaimed, turning to face her and hugging her back.
She then began to tell me about what she had gotten up to over the past year. I nodded and smiled as she spoke, but I couldn’t keep my eyes from wandering back to where Spooky was sitting, obnoxiously flirting with a girl who didn’t understand personal space.
“It’s bugging you isn’t it?” Angelica laughed, joining me in staring angrily at the two. “Yeah... I don’t like her either. She never quite learned how to take a hint. Or how to keep her hands to herself, and not men who are already taken.”
“Yeah, well... Spooky and I are kinda going through some stuff,” I said sadly.
“Still,” Angelica added, rubbing my back gently. “She knew you were his girl well before we got to this party... I think it’s about time someone put her in place.”
I glanced back to where Spooky and the girl sat. They had gone from obnoxiously flirting to him wrapping his arm around her, and her placing her hand on his chest. I couldn’t take it anymore.
“Hold my bag,” I muttered, to Angelica. She did not hesitate, which I appreciated, because I was just about ready to throw hands.
After Angelica took hold of my stuff, I began marching over to Spooky and whatsherface, I must’ve looked just as angry as I felt, because as soon as Spooky saw my walking, he immediately pulled his arm away from the girl and even tried to push her off the couch.
“Woah, what the fuck,” the girl yelled as Spooky pulled away.
The second i got close enough to touch her, I poured my cup of rum and coke on her head, before slapping the smirk she had right off of her face. As she held the side of her face I hit, I went to reach for my shoe.
“Next time it’ll be acid, bitch,” I yelled, trying to go for another swing, only to have Spooky pul me back. “So learn how to stay in your fucking lane, and stay the hell away from my man.”
She was quick to scurry away. After she ran off, Spooky let go of me and began chuckling back. I was glad he found this funny, because I was far from amused.
“Go to hell, Spooky,” I spat, before turning away from him and walking out of the party and onto the sidewalk. I should’ve known he was gonna follow me.
“Y/n!” He kept calling my name.
Which only gave me more of an incentive to walk faster.
“Y/n! Hey, c’mon, you know she didn’t mean anything,” he said, matching my pace and walking alongside me on the footpath. I came to an d abrupt stop, and turned so we were face to face. “You’re just really hot when you get jealous.”
“You don’t get it,” I cried, crossing my arms out of frustration. “What you said really hurt me, Spooky. This isn’t any of my business? Who do you think looked out for Cesar while you were doing time, huh? Who do you think took care of him when you weren’t there to do it? Because it sure as hell wasn’t that bitch you had your arm around... God, I care about him, Spook, and you made feel like shit for it.”
“Baby, I-”
“I nearly lost Ruby,” I said. My voice began to break. “I nearly lost my baby brother, and when it happened all I could think about was how I should’ve protected him. I’m his big sister... it was my job to protect him, and I couldn’t... And I don’t want anything like to happen to Cesar.”
“That’s why I called the truce,” Spooky defended.
“Yeah, but what are you gonna do when they end it?” I questioned. “Because you know you they will eventually... Look, whatever you wanna do is up to you... But if you’re not gonna look out for the kid, then I will. And you can’t stop me.”
I pushed past Spooky and made my way home.
****************
It had been several weeks since the party.
Spooky stopped trying to get me to talk to him, and I avoided crossing paths with him altogether. Perhaps I was really awful a hiding how sad I felt about our falling out, because everyone in my house became uncomfortably kind to me. Mario even offered to help me with the dishes when it was my night to do them
“Here,” I said, handing him a newly washed plate so he could dry it and put it aside.
We did this for a few minutes, before he finally broke the silence.
“Hey so uhm...” His eyes drifted off for a moment, and then he put the plate down and turned to face me. “The night of the party... I followed you and Spooky and I heard what you said... about not protecting Ruby.”
“Oh,” I muttered, before awkwardly handing him a newly wash mug.
“You know there’s nothing you could’ve done, right?- That it’s... completely not your fault.”
“I don’t know...” My mind began to trail off for a moment. “It just sucked, you know? Ruby’s just a kid... he shouldn’t have got through what he did and... And sometimes I just feel like I’m doing enough... you know, to protect him and keep him safe.”
Mario dropped the mug abruptly onto the counter, and turned to face me, eyes dead serious. He was normally a goofy, hard-to-take-serious person, so it was alarming how he was reacting.
“Y/n, how could you ever think that?” He shrieked, placing his hands on both my shoulders and shaking me gently as he spoke. “You gave up going to college, so that mom and dad could afford to send me to one... Don’t even try to deny it, because I know what you got on your SATs. You could’ve easily made it big, but you chose to stay here and help mom and dad with Ruby, and the twins and abuelita, and so I could go to college. If there's anyone in this world who’s looked out for me, and Ruby, and the twins, it’s you. It’s always been you, mana.”
I smiled, and wrapped my arms around my brother. He was a dork at times, but I could always count on him to cheer me up. After letting go, we both turned back to the sink, ready to finish off the rest of the dishes, until there was a knock on our front door.
Mario turned to go answer it, but I quickly stopped him.
“I’ll go,” I whispered. “And... thank you.”
I then turned back around and headed towards the door. Without looking through the peephole, I opened the door and my breath hitched after realising who it was.
“Hey...”
After weeks of not talking to each other, trust Spooky to let his first words to me be hey. I carefully stepped outside, onto our front porched, and closed the door behind me.
“Hey,” I replied, making him smile. I missed his smile.
“You were right,” he began, making me raise my eyebrows in surprise, because he was never the type to admit when he was wrong. “Cesar and I have a plan, so... So I really hope it works out, but if it doesn’t... I just wanted to tell you that you were right... You’re always right.”
I took a step closer to him.
“And, uhm,” he let out a cough to clear his voice before continuing. “And I shouldn’t have said what I said... Truth is, I’m kinda used to being the only one looking out for Cesar, and I guess... I just didn’t realise how close you guys got when I did time, but... It’s nice... It’s nice knowing that he has you looking out for him too.”
“Of course,” I whispered.
Then I took another step closer.
“And I promise I’ll listen to you more,” he murmured, raising his hand to caress my cheek. “I guess I’m just really used to being the only one calling the shots, but... But I promise I’ll be better if you... If you just forgive me... Please, baby?”
Damn him for always making me feel weak.

The Demon Next Door, Chapter 1
Next
It was a normal day just like any other, High Schooler Marco Diaz was fast asleep in his room, waiting for the alarm to go off so he could get ready for school. Another long and boring day of school to be exact, as it had been for 17 years of the human child's life. On a better day he would've preferred to have stayed in his bed for hours and just rest, but that would only get him nowhere in life and with Karate later this week and of course his chores, sleeping in was going to have to wait for the weekend. It was just another boring, normal day. What do you expect when you live in a town called Echo Creek though? And what would you expect from someone as normal and average as Marco Diaz?
As the alarm beeped he hit the button and sighed, his eyed opened and closing in sleep before getting up. He stretched his legs and found the nerve to get up and get dressed in his usual jeans, hoodie, and sneakers. Out the window he could see very little action, as everyone was possible still getting ready for the day, the only activity he could spot was some large trucks outside of a rather nice looking house practically across the street from him, there seemed to be movers taking some boxes outside of the trucks and making their way inside. He didn't pay it much mind though, he needed to hurry up and get ready, he had to make it to the bus on time and get a seat next to his best friend. He didn't have all day to gawk across the street to see what was happening when he had other matters to take care of, he needed to finish school for today, get his homework done and hopefully work on his plan on asking his crush out like he usually tended to do every night. Not to mention he always had babysitting duties for his younger sister in the evenings these days. If he didn't make it on time for class, it'd ruin his daily schedule, not to mention probably worry the heck out of his friend, and that usually never resulted in anything good. He hummed to himself as he finished getting dressed and went downstairs to see his family, who were already wide awake of course, they were usually more at home then they were at work, and that had it's benefits and it's downfalls. "Good morning Marco!", his dad shouted from the kitchen, "Breakfast is on the table for today! Better eat up so you don't miss the bus!"., Marco thanked him with a small wave, his family seemed to have been infected by "The happy virus", as his family seemed almost overally positive all the time. Marco sometimes loved it, but also sometimes he hated it, especially now, in his moody teenage years where positivety didn't always seem to click with him and his generation. Well, maybe it was more him. "Yeah i got it....don't worry, i'm gonna catch it in time...promise...". "See the new neighbors moving in marco?". Angie Diaz could be spotting feeding Marco's younger sister some breakfast as he stopped to eat the fresh plate of omelets and bacon left out for him, he grabbed a fork full and made quick work of it, "Yeah, from my window...when did they move in?". He wasn't entirely paying much attention, more focused on the rest of his day then on some strangers moving in nearby, "Oh, just today i think, we haven't made an introduction yet but i think i spotted a boy about your age over there, maybe you should go say hi later today?". "Uhhh...I don't know about that....". "Well, that's how you met Star right? When she moved in last year? Sounds like a good opportunity to make a new friend.", the human sighed, "Mom, Star kinda approached ME, it was never really the other way around. And besides...i'm sure the guy's probably not too crazy about making friends so soon. He might need more time to...settle in and all that.". He finished his food and stood up, "Maybe some other time mom, just uh....i'll catch up with you later..". His mom didn't have much time to say goodbye before he headed out but he didn't like to waste time. Especially to see his long time crush Jackie again. There was no time to waste. As he waited for the bus he could get a better view of the family moving in, and if marco didn't know better he'd think they were probably really into goth and horror judging by their rather spooky looking furniture and decor being carried into their equally spooky house. He could spot an older man which he presumed was the father speaking to a younger figure marco had only to assume was the son his mother had been talking about. Wearing a leather jacket and reddish hair with a streak of pink in it, they seemed to be a little at odds but they didn't pay marco any mind. No sign of the mother though she was probably inside, then again, maybe he was assuming too much about this family to say if they even had a mother. They had only just moved in and he was already judging and making too many assumptions about them, not a good way to start with his new neighbors. The first time he met Star he assumed she'd be another Brittney Wong, another unlikable popular girl who threw her money around willy nilly and made everyone feel bad about themselves. And that turned out to be far from the truth. He probably shouldn't judge so heavily here, though the house and the furniture being moved in had him curious. They stopped talking quickly and the boy turned around to see Marco was looking at him, the human felt a twinge of embarrassment as he turned his head away, just as the bus came rolling up to get him. Thank god for the bus because that would've looked odd, him staring at the new kid. Stepping aboard he found Star and took a seat next to his best friend, watching the boy and his house roll out of view quickly and allowing marco to calm down and get back on track for today. "Ooooo, new neighbors?", Star, Marco's bubbly blonde friend asked. Star was an unusual girl since the day they first met, with long blonde hair, hearts on her cheeks that she simply told them were just makeup, and bright blue eyes, not to mention her horned headband and sense of crazy fashion. She looked back through the window as Marco shrugged, "Yeah i guess so, we haven't had any new neighbors around since well...you, so looks like we're gonna have a new student soon too...". "OOOOO!!", she jumped up and down in her seat, "Who are they? Are we gonna see them in homeroom today?!". "What? no star, that's not how it works, they gotta move in first.....and besides, I don't really know anything about them...they kinda just....showed up....it's kinda weird.", Marco shook it off though, "Don't worry about it Star, i'm sure you can talk to them later on....for now, let's just focus on today. Did you even finish up all your homework this time or do I need to help you out again?". Star, gave him a pout and grabbed onto her backpack strap in a meek manner. "Star...". "I'm not good with math marco...you know that...". "What even are your private lessons about, I thought they were to help you catch up in class?!". Star sweated but brushed it off fast, "Well, yeah! But i still prefer you helping me marco.....pretty please? This was so typical of Star, her parents seemed so rich, hiring her private tutors for lessons and keeping her up all the time with them, but Star herself didn't seem to be getting anywhere with her earth studies. She claimed that her old school in whatever state she lived in had taught her very differently but marco was sure she just had paid no attention whatsoever to her lessons and that could be easily told by her normal grade score in her classes. Did the girl ever get goods grades on her own? Most likely no considering what Marco has seen. "Fine, i'll help you out, before class starts....but you really outta try harder in these classes star, these are kinda supposed to help you in the future, getting a job and all that?", Star pouted at what he was telling her, and he knew how much she hated being lectured, but she still complied. "Fine fine fine, from this point on, i'll stop asking you for help with my homework....IF, we go over and meet the new neighbors later today! I wanna see if they're any cool...". "Star...focus!" There she was again, making excuses to avoid talking about her study habits. "What? Last time someone moved in, you made a best friend....maybe they'll be cool enough that we'll have someone to hang out with us for movie nights and stuff! Being a new kid is tough, that's why we outta be his friends before anyone else does!", marco laughed to himself, "Says the girl who made friends with everyone instantly when she got here, Star, i'm sure the new kid will be fine without us....besides, i like just the two of us hanging out just fine...". She rolled her eyes as the bus rode on, making it's way to the school and finally dropping the kids off for the day. Marco of course, was perfectly ready to sit in his perfect spot to greet jackie that day, the two nodding and star groaning at marco yet again, not even saying a single word to the girl. But Marco ignored her, making a snide nod to all their instances of having her deal with crushes and how THOSE normally turned out and Star quieted on the matter. Marco quickly went over some of the algebra they just learned before they could separate into different classes that morning, he didn't know how much star was paying attention but she was scribbling down some notes, so he could only hope that meant she would be fine on her own for now. The girl was definitely a strange one alright, but at the same time she was his best friend. The first class when on fine, business as per usual, and marco glanced every once in awhile at a blonde girl sitting in the front row with short hair and a blue streak in her hair. He blushed as he kept taking notes, Jackie Lynn Thomas, the girl he'd been crushing on since forever, was sitting in his first class in the front row, and he still had made no effort to ask her out. Star teased him about this since the first day they met and he couldn't blame her, he looked like a fool crushing on a girl like this. As though jackie would just turn around and embrace him. When he knew she never would if his life depended on it. He had been crushing on her since they were kids, and he couldn't recall ever even speaking a full sentence to her, it shouldn't have been so hard and yet, it was. He had to make a move eventually, he had practically dreamt about asking her to the next school dance and with his luck someone else would ask her out before then and he'd miss his chance. Jackie was rather desirable after all, there was no way he was the only guy....or girl, who'd ask her to go with them. Ugh, he was such an idiot. His focus was so much on Jackie he had barely noticed the teacher attempting to get everyone's attention, being signaled by someone at the door. Marco looked up to see a very familiar and handsome boy walk in, he seemed rather mixed race though marco couldn't identify exactly what, with a long nose and beautiful green eyes, he had fiery red hair and a pink streak alongside it, his ears were pierced and he seemed to be wearing eyeliner. With a leather jacket, a ripped shirt, boots, and jeans, he looked like a true badboy. And Marco recognized him immediately. His new neighbor, the kid he was staring at earlier. "Class, I'd like to introduce you to our newest student, Thomas Lucitor!". - It didn't take long for Marco to form an opinion on Tom, he seemed to be quiet, bad at making friends, and seemed to like to keep to himself. Marco couldn't entirely blame him though, he was new to this place and he seemed like he was still getting used to the move, though marco had to wonder how he got here and signed in to the school when he only moved in so shortly ago. Then again, Star did the same thing so maybe Tom's parents planned ahead like hers seemed to. Either way, the boy seemed distant, mad even. He frequently looked mad, sometimes like he would cry at times, not like when star arrived. She came in super bubbly and happy and excited and people were drawn to her instantly, and she adapted within a few hours of her arrival like it was a walk in the park. Tom was not that. He didn't really raise his hand, or talk, and he seemed to keep to himself. Marco noticed he kept looking out the classroom window more then anything, not really paying much attention to the teachers and trying to occupy his mind with anything else. He was a strange boy, that was for sure, but then marco felt himself sink with some shame for making fun of the new kid. He considered speaking to him, but kept to himself, just glancing at him every once in awhile as the class continued. And Marco found himself watching him till class ended more then Jackie as the bell rung and everyone started to pack up, Tom grabbing his stuff and walking out into the hallway. Marco bit his lip and grabbed his own stuff, heading out to his next class to find that the Lucitor boy was standing in the middle of the hallway, everyone in a rush to get to their next class but clearly he was not, and Marco for a split second almost left him before gaining the courage to go up and talk to him, if only to ask why he was doing absolutely nothing when the bell rang in 5 minutes. He had planned to move on, to stop worrying so much about this kid and continue the say as normal but....found he couldn't, at the very least he could try, if this tom guy turned out to be unpleasent then he wouldn't have to bother him ever again. New kids usually tended to have a hard time in this school, but maybe that was because Brittney was popular and judgemental and used to making those kids feel like outcasts off the bat, and if he was going to see this kid on his block more often, the least he could do was say hi. He tapped on the boy's shoulder, hoping tom wouldn't hurt him for this, and Tom almost jumped, scared out of his mind.. "Uh.....hi? Do..you need help?". Tom blinked at him, blushing and adverting his eyes in embarrassment of his situation, "I uh....yeah, i don't really know where i'm going or what i'm doing...i'm new....so...i don't know where to go.". He was way more awkward then he looked upon first glance, his eyes avoiding contact with marco's and his body tensing. Marco held his hand out, "Hand me your schedule, i'll help you out..", Tom thought for a moment and pulled out a paper from his back and red backpack and handed it over. Marco felt tom looking at him for a bit as he rapidly scanned the paper over, "You're my new neighbor aren't you? I saw you earlier today...". Marco, embarrassed, let out an awkward laugh to ease his embarrassment for gawking at his neighbors, "Yeah that was me....but don't worry, I don't plan to uh...stare at you like that again uh...no wait, I mean... you'll fit in around here eventually...". "Thanks...I uh..sorry, i guess i'm wasting your time...". Marco smiled at him gently and handed back the paper, still rather embarrassed, "Oh no, it's ok, trust me....I had to help a lot of new kids around here out before....c'mon, we have the next class together, let's make it before the bell starts ok?". He grabbed Tom's wrist and the two hurried their way to the next room, only making it seconds before the door shut. Tom seemed incredibly thankful and smiled the first time he had since Marco saw him that day, guess Star wasn't entirely wrong with that suggestion to make friends with the new kid, he might've jumped the gun dismissing it earlier. He was so used to it being only him in Star for awhile, that he hadn't been one for making many new friends, but- Tom seemed like a decent guy. Maybe on the outside he looked a little scary but overall he seemed rather friendly and easygoing, if not also a little shy, he really didn't look how he acted at all. It probably was too soon to have a real heavy opinion of him as a person, but considering how he looked, marco was pleasantly surprised already. Throughout class tom sat next to marco, asking him for help and support, he had already seemed to grow a liking to marco right off the bat, his experience in this class was a contrast to the last alright. So much so, he tagged along with Marco after class on instinct and Marco didn't seem to mind all that much. He was getting a few looks from his classmates, but it probably had more to do with Tom's appearance then anything, he kinda stood out. Marco was more then used to it though, after all, Star was usually the center of attention no matter where she went. It was lunch time, and marco usually sat with star at a lonely table all to themselves, though before he entered to the room, he stopped to acknowledge tom. Tom was like a baby duck, following marco everywhere, clueless and persistent. For a moment he felt embarrassed though, backing off, "Oh? Do you want to part ways? I-I'm sorry if i sorta am bothering you, i tend to do that a lot.....I just wasn't sure what to do and if you don't wanna be around me i'll just-". "You uh....you wanna join me for lunch?", he said quickly before tom could finish. "Lunch?". "Yeah, we can eat together, wild guess but, i'm sure you aren't interested in eating alone right?". The boy blinked before he chuckled to himself, relieved marco wasn't creeped out by him, "Yeah, i'd like that uh.......sorry, i guess i don't know your name yet. I'm Tom, Tom Lucitor?". He held out his hand for Marco to shake it and Marco almost released his hand, noting that tom was STRONG. "Marco Diaz...i'm kinda the safe kid around here, at least that's what everyone calls me...c'mon, let's get going so we can get a good table...". Marco himself wasn't usually fond of being tasked with a tour guide for new students, but at the same time he hated to leave Tom alone on his first day of school. Dude seemed pretty upset as is. When he first met Star he had clearly gotten on the wrong foot with her before they became friends and he supposed he didn't want to make the same mistake again. Tom still seemed anxious, not nearly as cheery as Star was, he probably left a lot of friends back home. Star arrived being excited to move in and make friends and get to know everyone and everything, but Tom seemed to be the opposite of that, not eager to really do much of anything. Until now. "Thanks....marco...". "Oh , it's not a big deal, since we're kinda neighbors now i suppose we should well....get to know each other a little? I uh....where are you from anyway?", Tom's eyes widened and he tried to come up with an answer, "Oh i uh.....i...forget.....don't worry about it, i don't think you've heard of the place anyway...". Marco raised an eyebrow at the bow, who was starting to sweat a little, "Uh, is everything ok Tom? You look like you're kinda stressed ?". "Oh, me? No, it's just....thinking about home is...kinda tough right now..."., the boy nodded along, "I understand, well, i think you're gonna like this place. It's not exactly great and i'm sure it'll take some adjusting, but it's cool, don't worry..". Tom seemed to feel more reassured as they made it to the cafeteria, Marco leading Tom over to the lunch line and Tom following Marco's lead as he ordered food, as marco got to the cashier, much to his surprise, Tom butted in and paid for both of their meals. Geez, was this guy rich? If he was he was sure Brittney or the rest of the school would've said something, itching to be tom's friend. Though marco found his thoughts swimming at why tom would have this much money on him just to go to school. "My treat....for helping me...". Marco was still flabbergasted as Tom lead him away so they could go find a place to sit, Star didn't seem to be here already so she'd have to meet up with them later. Marco found one empty table and took a seat, Tom taking a seat next to him. Marco could see Jackie sitting with her friends at a different table, smiling and laughing, and he could tell he was staring at her. Even Tom seemed to notice who he was looking at directly, but he didn't say anything, eating his slice of pizza and staying quiet. "My best friend should be here to eat with us soon, you'll know her when you see her, trust me. But maybe you two will get along, she was kinda excited about you showing up, she kinda likes making a lot of new friends.". Tom snorted, taking another bite, "Well, lucky her i guess...i was kinda expecting to come in today and not make any friends. I'm kinda not really all that good at it, i sorta am told i get on people's nerves or have these....issues..". "Really? You seem like an alright guy.". "Trust me, i've....had problems...socially, i thought this day would kinda suck.....but....it kinda sucks a little less...", tom smiled to himself, "You're pretty nice to a guy you don't know that well y'know? I could be a total jerk for all you know...". That got a laugh out of marco, "I guess i just didn't want you alone on your first day, i mean, for awhile i was kinda alone myself....i didn't really talk to many people and just kinda focused on myself, till star came in that is, i think i'd feel like a jerk if i didn't...well...help.". "Wait.....star?". "HEYYY MARCO!!" Star, finally here, rushed through the door and to the table, paying no mind to Tom. "Sorry i was late, apparently my teacher caught on to well....you helping me with my homework and well.....apparently I have detention....", Marco almost chocked on his food as Star took a seat, "Don't worry though! She doesn't REALLY know it was you, I told her it was just....my mom, so...that means you don't have detention this time!". Marco sighed and pulled on his hair, "Star, you know that means they're gonna call your mom right? To confirm it?". "Well..". "Star....". "You think i'm grounded?". "Oh yeah you are.....". Star huffed and that's when she finally, FINALLY, took note of the other boy. Tom had been staring at her this entire time, mid-bite of his food, he looked like he almost might drop it. Star looked equally stunned at the boy, for a moment being confused, but then right back to stunned. Marco coughed into his hand and got the attention of the two teens, "Star, this is...Tom Lucitor, apparently he's my new neighbor who you saw moving in earlier, i guess he really was coming to school today, like you said...guess i was wrong this time.". Star said nothing, her face still in total shock. Tom's mirrored her own. "Uh....guys?". Star turned her attention back to Marco, "Uh....great to meet you tom....". Tom followed in her footsteps, turning away from her to focus on his lunch, "Yeah uh....great to meet you...Star..". Marco looked between the pair, taking note of their strange expression and voices, something was definitely up about those two and he made a mental note to ask Star later. Then again, knowing Star, this was probably another "Oskar" situation, and boy did they not need another one of those. Marco bit at his lips and turned to Tom, "Well Tom, If you want...you can maybe come over after school...if you want to that is....my parents want to well, meet your family as they always do with new neighbors.". Tom snickered, his eyes still lingering to Star though, "That's nice but I kinda need to help my parents when I get back, we still gotta finish unpacking and setting everything up....but...uh...here...". He scribbled something down on a nearby napkin and handed it to Marco. "You can uh....call me, i guess...i might need more help getting settled...in, I don't know much about this place yet". Marco took it, pocketing it, "Of course.....and you can have mine too....", he scribbled on a napkin himself and handed the scrawl over to Tom, who seemed appreciative. Tom had made his first real friend and it had only been one day, and with someone he could visit and hang out with easily no less. Marco smiled and the three finished their lunch, Star surprisingly quiet during lunch for once in her lifetime. As though Tom's presence suddenly didn't make her want to speak. Though Marco didn't really think much of it, she may just not be used to having someone new at their table, plus he had his suspicions, and he could swear Star was looking over at Tom a few times during their meal. And Tom in return. The bell rang and Marco helped Tom find his next class as he headed to his own, the rest of the day going by easier then before. Star joining him quickly as they got ready to go home and Marco spotted Tom heading over to him, looking at the school bus, Marco ushering him to get on board. Had Tom never been on a school bus before? Tom followed them, watching Star and Marco take a seat next to each other, he seemed to be looking for space for himself at first, but then turned around and took a seat by himself nearby, looking out the window. and Marco felt a little bad, but he also couldn't bring himself to tell Star he wanted to sit with the new guy just to make him a little less lonely on his first day, she was still his best friend after all and he didn't know Tom all too well yet. Just that, he seemed like a guy Marco was welcome to hang out with, if Tom wanted to. When the three got off the bus Star waved and headed up the street to go home, saying she better get going for her "Private lessons", Marco waving at her and turning to wave to Tom....only to see he was already on his front lawn, heading inside without so much as a word to Marco. Did not sitting with him on the bus make him that upset? Marco sighed and headed into his own home, maybe Tom just wasn't used to being so social, it was ok, he could talk to him later. He was his new neighbor after all. And hopefully, he might make a new friend out of this.

She could see dark, pillowing smoke in the distance, smell the burnt ash in the wind, before she even spotted the ruined remains of the once thriving city, the soft glow of fire lighting her path like a beautiful but tragic beacon of the night. Well, more like early morning, early enough that the sun hadn't even risen yet, Mewni still bathed in the blackness of near night. But that was just fine for the Impure child, darkness always suited her better anyways. Blending in was easier in the shadows.
“You remember your mission, don't you?” the adult Impure next to her asked.
The Impure child nodded her head. “Yes.”
“Good, then stay on your guard. There might still be some Mewmans left alive.”
“That or some Monsters still looking for a fight.”
“Yes.” There was bitterness in the adult Impure's voice now. “Sadly, that's all these creatures ever seem interested in. Violence.”
The Impure child didn't respond. She hated when she got like this. Instead she simply shifted into her bat form, ready to fly over and investigate the city. But she had only flapped a few feet before a voice called from behind her, “And Janna? Remember, nothing else matters but completing the mission.”
Janna nodded again, feeling slightly annoyed by the constant reminder. “Yeah, yeah, I know mom. I've been on scavenging missions before. I think I know what I'm doing.”
Her mom opened her mouth to say something but stopped, instead shaking her head and simply replying, “I know you do.”
…
The city was in ruins when Janna reached it, the broken remains telling a story that the Impure child was getting all too familiar with. A Monster attack. The small Mewman village doing all they could to defend themselves. No survivors. This was only one of many villages her and her mom had pillaged since the war began, gathering supplies once the fighting and dying had ceased. It wasn't a perfect way of living, but it was how she and her people stayed alive and that was really all that mattered. Staying alive. Besides, it wasn't like this stuff bothered her, she had lived in the creepy and morbid her whole life, nothing could faze her anymore.
She flew through the village for a few moments, checking and then double checking to make sure the coast was clear, that there were no more enemies lurking the shadows. Once she was positive it was safe, her mom joined her and together the two began their search. This was unlike their typical missions which was all about finding food and supplies, this was much more serious than that, a top secret mission only her mom had all the details on, Janna only given vague directions that they were in search of something. Something important.
“What is it we're looking for, anyways?” Janna asked, as she scanned the destroyed room, nothing in particular catching her eye, it seemed like just an ordinary house, like all the others they had searched.
Her mom locked eyes with her, raising an eyebrow in that scolding way that all mother's did, but her fanged mouth twitched with the slightest hint of a smile. “Nice try, Janna,” her mother said, the pride almost as obvious as the sarcasm. “But you know the rules...”
“Yeah, yeah the less we know the better,” Janna scoffed, rolling her eyes. “But I'm just saying, this search would go a lot smoother if you would just tell me what it is we're looking for.”
Her mother tutted, waving a scolding finger in the air. “Patience, Janna. Our people have these rules for a reason. You'll understand when you're older.”
Janna just groaned, watching as her mom turned her back on her, muttering under her breath. “Maybe then you'll trust me enough to start telling me things.”
Her mother stopped walking, turning her head slightly over to her daughter before replying, “Trust isn't given freely, Janna. It's something you earn.”
…
There was a glow up ahead.
The light radiating from a dark corner and Janna's night vision was quickly able to pinpoint the source of the glow, which seemed to be hidden in some closet. “Hey mom, I think I see something over there,” she yelled over her shoulder and down the stairs to where her mom was busy searching the lower levels of the home. It had been a promising spot, the expensive-looking furniture and intricate paintings that coated the walls telling them that whoever lived there was of wealth and power and it was also the most torn up of all the homes so far, like whoever had lived there had fought back against the Monsters much harder and more desperate than their fellow Mewmans. Which meant that perhaps they had been desperate not just to stay alive but to keep their enemy from finding something.
She ran over to the closet, which was locked using some low level magic lock, which the young thief made quick work of picking. After all, magic or not, a lock was a lock, there was always a trick inside, you just had to know what it was and she had learned all the techniques in her few short years on this dimension. Once she was inside, she saw that the closet was completely empty, save for a glowing blue box, covered in symbols and some ancient tongue Janna had never seen before. She quickly shrugged this off though, picking it up off the soft pillow it had been delicately place on and turning to her mom, waving it around in her hand in a show-offy way. “So let me guess, is this what we were looking for?”
Her mom nodded, a bright smile on her face. “Yes, that's it!”
Janna smirked, before tossing the box over to her mom, who caught it with a look of slight panic, her face paling some the moment it had become air-born, and she breathed a sigh of relief the moment it was safe in her hands. “Well what do you know, looks like I'm more trustworthy than you give me credit for. Considering I just got your box all on my own.”
Her mother rolled her eyes, before saying, “Alright, I admit it, you did a good job. And we will discuss you're future involvement in missions more after we get out of here. The Mewmans are bound to come across this place eventually, y'know.”
Janna nodded and started to follow her mom, when she heard a crack from above. She looked up to see the support beams over their heads losing their battle to stay in place, the many burn marks and fractured wood causing them to bend and shake as they hovered dangerously over their heads. Janna gulped before locking eyes with her mom with a pleading look. Her mother was giving her a concerned look, saying in a voice barely above a whisper, “Okay, Janna. Just walk over to me very slowly.”
Janna nodded and was about to do just that when she heard a voice shout from outside, her brain having no time to process this as the boards above finally snapped and Janna desperately flung herself away from the debris, her back crashing into the wall before a pain unlike anything she had ever felt before consumed her arm. Her vision swam, the world passing in a flash of nauseating colors as she heard a voice shout in the distance. “Janna!”
When she finally came to, she had no feeling in her arm anymore. And as Janna sat up she found that her movements were limited, something pinning her in place to a painful degree. She forced her eyes open as she took in the dreaded sight of the board leaning menacingly against her arm, which was already beginning to swell, and she swallowed, guessing what that meant for her.
She looked over to see her mom still standing in the doorway, frozen in shock and fear, the blue box in her grip rattling as her hands shook. “M-Mom,” Janna managed to gasp out, fighting against the crushing board, her sharp nails digging into the flesh of her arm as she struggled fruitlessly. “Help me. My arm's stuck! I-I think it's broken.”
She tried everything she could think of, even shifting into her bat form, but it was just as useless as her regular one, her wing completely pinned under the thick wooden frame, and she quickly shifted back. “Help me get this thing off!” she shouted, her voice strained as she pulled against the board with all her might, but her strength meant nothing at the moment. Right now, she was just a weak, little girl.
Finally, though her struggles stopped as she looked over to her mom, shocked to see that she had yet to move, her eyes drifting down at the box in her hands, then to her daughter, than over her shoulder to the now distinct voices of the Mewmans outside. “Search the whole area, men. There might still be survivors.”
“Mom?” Janna whimpered, tears beginning to fill her vision.
Her mom locked eyes with her and Janna felt her heart stop as she saw something in her mom's eyes that she had never seen before. Guilt.“... I'm sorry.”
And just like that, her mom turned and ran away, leaving her eight-year-old daughter trapped and alone with a group of angry, violent Mewmans slowly hunting her down. “MOM!” Janna screamed, as tears flowed down her cheeks in waves of pain, her world and trust shattered into pieces around her as the warning her mother had given her when this all began echoed endless in her head, coming back to haunt her in her lowest and most desperate moment. “Remember, nothing else matters but completing the mission.”
Nothing else matters.
Nothing else matters.
You don't matter.

Murphy’s First Date
*Arrives late with a Starbucks frappucino* I won’t even ask because being late is now my thing so *shrugs and slurps from frappucino*
Well, after being forcefully transferred non-officially to my new position in my work, my time to write has been reduced (not to talk about the whole stress that consumes my energy to write) so when inspiration/motivation hits I literally have to go overdrive before it expires. Which is why I’m not joining many fandom events, sorry guys.
anyways, this is inspired on true fact events that happened this weekend at home which got me to think “what if was Starco” and it got me giggling so much to think that I have to write and share this. And since the shoe fits, why not join @starco-week Day 1 and try fill in again? :D
So let’s go!
Fun fact: The part that was inspired in true events it’s in the tags, but I recommend you to look only after reading the whole thing ;)
...
Murphy’s First Date
Marco let himself drop on Star's fluffy carpet. With the towel still on his head he tried to hide his face from her, frustrated on how the day went from awkward to a holy level of mess.
It was their first official date as a couple, but everything went down in the most awkward ways. First with both their parents wanting to tag along, it took them a run along the mall to lose them and get somewhere else, then they ran into Janna who was monitoring the date through one of the cameras in his hoodie. So while getting a new shirt and hood, they run into Ferguson and Alfonso, who decided to pay help Marco which was nice… until they left for their DND meeting and Marco realized they switched bags, leaving him with a elf costume he had to wear so Janna stop looking into his date.
So they finally get to tacos and made their order… And then Jackie and Tom arrived and sat by their table trying to find comfort and completely missing the fact it was a date by them (Marco couldn’t blame them when he’s wearing a freaking elf costume) because, one had a huge fight with her girlfriend and was afraid they would break up, and the other got stood up by his date. So instead of eating more tacos, Star and Marco ordered them to go and tried to calm down both the friends who were crying their hearts out and stuffing their faces on tacos.
That is, until Jackie girlfriend showed up and talked to her and they were making out right then and there (At this point he didn’t even know if he wanted to ask for them to take another table or just leave) and Tom's date (Janna?! Say what?!) Showed up eventually since she was late trying to fix her TV ("thanks, Marco." She had said and suddenly it got him that their date was spying on his somehow.)
It was almost night and things were a mess, but it was OK! Because he got Star, she was happily walking beside him holding his hand and they had some tacos to eat somewhere nice and finally things could be fine!
That was, until the thunder and sudden downpour went on them.
Holding her hand tightly and trying not to slip on the streets as everyone run for cover, Marco got in his house and search for his key… Which was on the hoodie he threw away with Janna embodied camera. He hitted his head on the door angrily as Star tried to call his parents by no results.
His parents got home ten minutes later finding them soaking to their bones as they waited by the door, trying to take cover in the little patio build there with no use (it almost could shelter one, two people was impossible). The Diaz opened the door to them, Star's parents walked in right after them carrying Mariposa under an umbrella.
He took a looked on the tacos in vain before throwing them in the trash for being soaked and ruined.
But the worst part, the worst of it all wasn’t the awkwardness, the shame or everything that went wrong. The worst was when he got her a towel and was about to tell her to take a shower to get warm and she began to sneeze.
Star got sick.
They stayed out in the rain for too long and she just had because a normal human, so it was only natural she as her body wasn’t used or weren’t prepared for such things as getting soaked in sudden cold rain, of course she would get cold!
And now here they were, sitting in Star’s fluffy carpet in the room she left ready for her visits in his house, as Star had her hair dried by her mother, curled under a blanket his mother gave and a hot drink (probably some mint tea by the smell of it) to try help her to avoid getting anything deeper than sneezing from cold.
Marco sighed frustrated as ever throwing the damp towel away as he finished drying his hair and left it a mess.
"Are you mad?" Star asked cautiously.
"Of course I am!" Hiding his face between his hands he confessed to her "I was right all along, I was a terrible boyfriend to Jackie and I a worst boyfriend to you!"
"Wait, what?!" Star put her mug with the tea down and took his hands away from his face "Marco, what are you talking about?"
"What am I talking about?! I am talking about this our first date as a couple being ruined!"
Star blinked at him "What?"
"Come on, everything that could be wrong today had gone wrong!" Marco pulled his pajama shirt up to hide his face "From our parents, to Janna, to Ferg and Al, to Jackie and Tom to the stupid rain and now you’re sick! I’m the worst boyfriend ever!"
Star smiled ever so lovingly at him, remembering how she fell for this dork. "Marco, you’re not the worst… You’re the best ever."
Gently, Star pulled his shirt down until it was down his neck and she could see his face again, but he avoided her eyes by looking to the other side.
"It’s not your fault… Actually I think it’s mine."
"What?" Marco asked confused looking at her.
"Well… I didn’t really think of this as our first real date or anything… I mean, dates are for couples to know each other and bond and we already have all that, we have for a long time… So when you told me we would go out, I thought it was, more casual hang out and stuff. So I told our parents and I might have let them think they were invited because wasn’t anything special… Like, you said ‘we’ as The Diaz and The Butterfly, not as Star and Marco."
"Oh…"
"Sorry, I should have asked before talking to your mother and kinda letting her think the same thing."
"No, it’s ok…" He sat up thoughtful, "I think I also should have let more clear, I never mentioned about movie and dinner, now that I think about it make sound like hanging out… I wanted to make it kinda like a surprise, but I should have at least let you known I wanted to be just the two of us.” He smiled at her.
Star nodded and went on, "Then about Janna… I asked her to record it." Marco blinked at her several times too shocked to speak, so she went on "I… Once she said about the cameras, I thought would be nice to have some recordings for us, so I asked her to record… But when you found out you got so freaked out I couldn’t tell you! So… I just let on mine." She looked at her lace pin soaked and frowned "But I doubt something survived the rain."
Marco rested his hands in top on hers and caressed gently "I guess, I did freaked out more than I should have…"
"You guess?" Star chuckled
"Fine, I screamed like a little boy wetting his pants for finding monster under his bed." He sighed "Recordings are fine, but we can do that ourselves Star. We can take pictures, videos and whatever else you want. Even contract Janna, but let me know first, OK?"
Star nodded and held his hands, "Then… There’s Ferguson and Alfonso."
"How you have anything to do with us switching bags?"
"Cause I was trying to recover your hoodie and the camera without you noticing, so I dropped the bags, but both looked the same and were zipped, I didn’t have time to look cause they came and I had to guess, so I went with the lighter one because I thought his costume would be heavier!" Star facepalmed herself "When you checked and I realized the mistake they were already off. I had sent a text for them, but they were on the road until few minutes ago, Ferg said he will get your hoodie back to switch."
"I don’t care much about the hoodie, I just didn’t want to make you feel a idiot walking around with a guy dressed as a elf for no reason… But didn’t work much."
Star laughed "I guess it didn’t."
Marco smiled and sat closer to her passing his arm around her shoulders and giving her cheek a gentle kiss that made her giggle.
"Wait, you don’t have anything to do with Jackie and Chloe’s fight, do you?"
"No! No, no no no. That was just an unfortunate coincidence for real. Though Janna did get late because I had asked her to go get the camera you threw away" she smiled ashamed.
He smiled painfully back, "Yeah we gonna need to make it up to Tom somehow even if I ruined without knowing. He deserve better."
His girlfriend agreed and held him closer, "I thought you got angry because after you threw the hoodie away you lost your keys and got wet… And I know you hate wet socks. So I was afraid to speak and getting it worse… I’m sorry."
He smiled at her and rested his forehead on hers, "I was angry that the date went wrong and you were getting wet. I was never angry at you… Well, maybe a little bit now, but it’s already gone knowing you meant well."
Star smiled at her boyfriend leaning up and touching his lips with her own on a longing kiss before snuggling into his embrace wrapping them both in the blanket.
"You know, we don’t need anything else. This is good."
Marco hummed in agreement caressing her back, "Yeah, this is fine… As long as I have you it’s OK."
Star smiled "With or without dates, we belong together" she giggled.
"That was super clichê" Marco laughed.
"Shut up."
For a while they stayed like that. Getting warm in each other arms and being just comfortable in each other. And for that moment Marco realize he really was too stressed on what he wanted them to be instead of what they are and taking that into the natural way. Star was right, they had their relationship a long way already, some things did change now they were a couple, but they become a couple by who they were and that could not change; if so what would be the point?
Yes, they had flaws and things to solve as any other, but they were just in the beginning and sincerely? Marco couldn’t wait to see what was to be in future.
They rearranged their position and he turned on his notebook in her room, choosing a movie to watch undercovers with her, and to be fair? This was as good as any date they could have. Maybe wasn’t fancy or epic, but they had each other and they were having fun watching some silly movie in the comfort of the home, and that was good enough for them. So what? They didn’t need anything else, opportunities for all the other stuff would happen eventually.
As he thought about all that, taking her shampoo essence and handing her tissues when she sneezed a few more times, he heard it. A squishy sound, so soft and low he almost missed if wasn’t for the silence in the room as he was selecting another movie.
"Star… Did you just fart?"
Suddenly looking like a red tomato, she looked down completely embarrassed "I-I guess that Taco didn’t get me so well… Sorry ha ha"
Marco laughed, "It’s ok, it’s very normal-" he was about to comfort her, when he stopped mid sentence and felt the smell looking at her horrified "I take it back, it’s not normal."
"What?"
"Star, you’re rotten" Marco said getting out the blankets.
"Marco!"
"Air! I need air!"
"It’s not that bad!" Star pouted getting more embarrassed.
"You can get worse than this one?!" He said surprised as he opened the door.
"Stop that!"
"Oh my God, Star!"
Star facepalmed herself, she was really being fart-shamed by her boyfriend? "Marco Diaz!”
"Marco!" Rafael called from the living room "What is this rotten smell?! Did you find the corpse of Mr. Cinnamon?"
Star wrapped herself under the blankets hiding embarrassed, as Marco replied "No, dad. Star just farted!"
She looked out the covers with a look that said betrayal to what Marco didn’t see as his back was to her.
"Oh my, that was a powerful one." Angie commented.
Marco suddenly took a moment to realize "Wait, corpse of Mr. Cinnamon?"
"Yeah, your hamster in Fourth grade stays for another time, Marco. Fix your girlfriend!" Rafael replied murmuring about turning the fans on and home essences.
Marco turned around and got attacked with a pillow by Star "I can’t believe you told them I farted!"
"What?!” He replied as he defended himself as he replied “They could smell!"
"Ugh! Marco Diaz, you’re the worst!"
Marco began to laugh as he knew she wasn’t serious just extremely frustrated on her embarrassment. Now this was more like them, switching from a sweet moment to awkward to laugh.
It would be a long and fun journey.
"We spiraled high on a gust of love!" Marco began singing as he got a pillow to defended himself of her pillow attack "And I knew right from the start, nothing could tear us apart… Until the day you farted hard-"
"Marco Ubaldo Diaz!" Star screamed at him angry. He began to fall down as if he was being dramatically defeated.
"-and now it’s too little too late!"
