Petty, annoying rant about Agatha and gender that I just needed to exit my brain.

I’d be less annoyed by the “butch Agatha” thing if anyone was intertwining it with their analysis of Agatha’s isolation from other witches (there Could be so much there, same with a trans reading of Agatha). But mostly people are just horny about Kathryn Hahn in a flannel (which is fine but have these people ever talked to a butch irl?)

And to anyone who’s like “oh but she ~performs~ so much when she presents femininely”

1. The Agnes O’Conner persona is quite literally also a performance. And one she had way less control over.

2. Performance doesn’t equal inauthentic. I think Jac Schaffer’s quote about Agatha being similar to a drag Queen is dead on. Also, we all perform gender all the time whether we want to/realize it or not. And Agatha Harkness is making very intentional choices in her performance, and to me it reads as much more similar to femmes intentionally choosing and subverting femininity than it does to butches rejecting femininity (I mean even when she wears a tie she’s also in a full face of makeup) ((not that I think anyone Has to read Agatha as femme. She’s so much older than so much of our queer lexicon anyway))

Anyways make whatever headcanons you want but personally I’m hitting Alice with the butchification beam (even though she also has unfortunate ties to law enforcement)

Also fanfic authors know butches aren’t always dom tops right?
