yall I just saw a few parts of miraculous world London special and I'm TWEAKING WTF, I'll watch the full episode tomorrow but damn Adrien finding out that Gabriel is dead, breaking down and pushing ladybug away out of anger, while leaning on kagami instead, and ladybug breaking down hugging Nathalie, is probably one of the saddest things I've ever seen pan out in miraculous and miraculous has pretty damn sad things. It shows the heavy baggage thats forced upon both ladybug and Adrien at the same by Gabriel

My physical disability (long post)
Given that it's Disability Pride Month, I wanted to share a bit of my own experience.
After experiencing HORRIBLE back pain for weeks in late 2016 (the doctor didn't send me for an MRI or any deeper scan after the x-ray didn't show anything), I woke up one morning in January 2017 with literally ZERO balance. Like, I could move my legs, but I still couldn't walk. It was the most terrifying sensation.
Called the ambulance, they took me to the hospital where I had the proper scan done, and it turned out to be a massive tumor pressing on my spine and crushing the nerves. Because it had been growing for months, everyone agreed it was a miracle I wasn't totally paralyzed. (The tumor turned out to be cancerous, and I had several more tumors in other places too, including my stomach, ovaries, liver, and kidneys). After it was removed, I still had zero balance.
Well, the entire five months I was in the hospital getting treatment wasn't fun, made even worse by my destroyed mobility. During my stay, I switched back and forth between a wheelchair and a walker. I was so depressed, terrified I'd never walk properly again and convinced my life was over. Even after I was discharged from the hospital, and still continued to use a wheelchair and walker, I can't count how many times I freaking bawled. I had very poor control of my legs, and had to look down at them at all times to know what they were doing so I didn't trip.
And for the first time in my life, I was met with challenges that able-bodied people don't have to worry about (the worst of which were stairs). I could finally appreciate how frustrating it is when able-boded people selfishly use the handicapped stall in the washroom (when the other ones are perfectly available) when you have to go!
Not long after I got out of the hospital, I started attending physical therapy. I worked for months and months, and graduated from a walker to two canes to just one cane. I practiced walking in the pool by my place (with aqua-therapy, I didn't have to worry about injuring myself if I fell in the water, and I fell plenty at first). I gradually got better, but it was HARD.
Shortly after my very first visit to physical therapy, my therapist diagnosed me with spasticity in my legs and feet. That's a condition caused by a spinal cord injury; the injury to the nerves in the spine cause the signals between the nervous system and the legs/feet to be thrown completely out-of-whack and fail to communicate properly (which was why I couldn't sense what my feet were doing unless I looked at them), forcing the leg muscles to be in a permanent state of horrible stiffness and constant spasms. It's a horrible feeling.
Finally, in the later part of 2019, I no longer needed a cane. I could walk just fine on my own (for the most part), and I haven't had to rely on walking aids since then, and I don't have to watch my feet to know how they're moving when I walk. But the spasticity- which is permanent- remains. I manage it with medication, which helps the stiffness a bit. And my biggest challenge remains stairs; I absolutely cannot go up and down stairs (especially up) without a banister. But because of how generally stiff my muscles are, my balance will never be perfect. And I can't really run, although I can walk just as fast as I used to.
Cold weather, rain, and atmospheric pressure all make the spasticity worse.

Blabbering about Tenipuri
In early 2024, I finally read The New Prince of Tennis and had so many thoughts that I figured I may as well write them up for sharing. I got into The Prince of Tennis around 2006 when I was the same age as some of the characters. These were the days of Livejournal, as well as fanfiction dot net, AKA the pit of voles. My favorite ship was InuKai. Over the next few years, I gradually faded out of the fandom until I basically didn’t think about Tenipuri whatsoever. From roughly 2012-2017, I wasn’t really in online fandom at all. I never made the change from LJ to Twitter or Tumblr.
Sometime around 2016, I got back into Tenipuri because of a friend on Plurk, a social media site that still shows you posts from people you follow in chronological order. I ended up joining the Tenipuri Discord as well as AO3, watched some of Tenimyu for the first time, and wrote fics for the first time since the LJ days. I started playing Rising Beat, and went downhill from there (in a good way.) As an adult, my views on the characters that I used to dislike have softened to the point that I pretty much like all of them. My favorite individuals and ships definitely shifted around and I’d be hard pressed to pick only one character or one ship, because I get different things out of each.
Now that I have read Shinteni, I gained 5 (five!) new ships. For a while they were filling my mind when I would wake up earlier than my alarm, and when I would try to fall asleep. I guess this goes to show how very much I am into Tenipuri. I haven't been very active in fandom Discord servers now that those seem to be where everyone is, but I’m feeling the urge to try online fandom again. I can’t believe I missed out on the Tenirabi zines because I had muted the entire server…
All this to say I’m back :)

People I wanna know better tag meme
Tagged by the lovely @lurkingshan!
Last Song?
In the middle of studying, so I've had Hozier on replay. This is the currently the song that is playing at the moment.
Favorite Color?
At the moment I've been buying everything forest green, so I guess that would be my favorite color as of now!
Currently Watching?
Weekly Watching: The Last Twilight, Twins (recently finished), The Sign, Dead Friend Forever, Pit Babe, Percy Jackson
Mindless Watching/Listening: Theresa, Rebelde. So I like always having something on while I drive, since I usually am on the road about 3-4 hours a day so I've been nostalgic and listening to novelas that I grew up with.
Last Movie?
It's been some time since I watched a movie, probably since early December, but it was Dime Cuando. You can find it on Netflix under Tell Me When. It's a light-hearted comedy about getting back to your roots, but it honestly feels like a love-letter to Mexico City.
Sweet/Spicy/Savory?
For meals, I prefer spicy, but I can tolerate a whole lot more Mexican spice (habaneros, etc.) than Asian Spiciness. And along with the spiciness, I love the saltiness/lime of Mexican cuisine.
I am known to have a sweet-tooth, so for snacks/candy I'll still choose salty and spicy. But I really enjoy sweet breads; no chocolate for me though.
Relationship status?
Chronically single. Last relationship was in my very early 20s and I've just thrown myself in my work and education, so I've had not time for anything else.
Current obsessions?
Anything you've seen reblogged, but I guess out of all the shows I've watched...KinnPorsche? Between Us? Those have stuck with me for some time now.
Last thing you googled?
"How to overlay a gif on a gif using Photoshop 2023?" I haven't used Photoshop since 2016/2017, and the version I was accustomed to using was Photoshop cs5. Let's just say that there's a learning curve. Selfie or another pic you took?
Tumblr media
This is Samantha Jane. I accidentally adopted her from a patient on Halloween of 2020. All I had been told was that she was a beagle and 13 years old, so imagine my surprise I see she’s very much not a beagle. Her original owners had the adoption papers of when she was in the pound as a puppy and she had been listed as a Doberman. So I always say that I was both tricked and treated that Halloween. Tagging @sunshinechay, @a-slut-for-vegaspete, @bokkiesplace, @shannankle, and @waitmyturtles.

hiii thanks for rbing my horror recs post! here's your recs! :)
based on ginger snaps i'd recommend let the right one in (2008), the lure (2015), the witch (2015), the living dead girl (1982), stoker (2013), bones and all (2022) and carrie (1976) about (blood thirsty) outcast girls who want to be loved :(.
based on hausu i'd recommend suspiria (1977), beetlejuice (1988), eraserhead (1977), the love witch (2016), the cell (2000) and the rocky horror picture show (1975) because they have unique aesthetics that they really commit to, and tetsuo: the iron man (1989), brain damage (1988), possessor (2020), killer klowns from outer space (1988), the machine girl (2008) and videodrome (1983) because they're some of the more unhinged batshit insane movies i've seen.
based on we're all going to the world's fair i'd recommend i saw the tv glow (2024), pulse (2001), skinamarink (2022), may (2002), censor (2021), swallow (2019) and eraserhead (1977) which are all strange but beautiful movies with themes of loneliness.
based on scream i'd recommend urban legend (1998), behind the mask: the rise of leslie vernon (2006), house of wax (2005), you're next (2011), haunt (2019), the final girls (2015), totally killer (2023) and the cabin in the woods (2011) because they're all about (masked) killers starring cool female characters.
based on the blair witch project i'd recommend the ritual (2017), horror in high desert (2021), the strangers (2008), the tunnel (2011) and them (2006) which are all quite simple but effective horrors about something lurking in the shadows.
hope there's some you haven't seen yet! :)
Thanks for the recommendations! Some of these I've seen already, but there are plenty I still haven't watched. In fact, a few have been on my watchlist for a while, so I'll take this as a sign to get to them soon (or, in the case of Let the Right One In, hurry up and read the book since I want to finish it before checking out any of the adaptations).
I thought it might be fun to share my thoughts about the ones I have seen:
The Witch (2015) - I read The Crucible when I was far too young (I stole it off my parents' bookshelf after I got bored with reading Junie B. Jones) and was obsessed with dark fairy tales about witches living in the forest as a child. So this was very much my shit.
Stoker (2013) - After watching this, I spent so many nights just wondering whether India Stoker and Merricat Blackwood would get along or try to kill each other if they ever met. I still don't have an answer.
Carrie (1976) - Love the use of split screen and Sissy Spacek really only moving her eyes during the attack on the gym. Hate the aggressive male-gazeyness of the locker room scene and the under usage of Amy Irving (I thought she was a interesting choice to play Sue, and I'm forever bitter she and Carrie didn't get to have their confrontation at the end like they do in the book).
Suspiria (1977) - The colours! The Goblin soundtrack! Sure, the actual plot barely makes any sense, but I adore it so much!
Beetlejuice (1988) - The last time I watched this was back in high school, so I should probably give it a rewatch soon. I remember loving the Maitlands and the Deetz family but absolutely hating Betelgeuse; I think he's the weakest character and would argue that you could still get a great story without him, but I understand I'm likely in the minority here.
Eraserhead (1977) - God, I always get so mad on the baby's behalf. He cries all the time! Well, he probably wouldn't cry so much if you didn't leave him lying on a hard table 24/7! 🙄
The Love Witch (2016) - I'm conflicted about this one. I thought it was beautifully shot, and I love anything that pays homage to older films. But since Anna Biller has gone full TERF since its release, I've found my viewing experience somewhat soured (which sucks because I was really interested in seeing her upcoming Bluebeard adaptation before I found out).
Videodrome (1983) - Another one I need to revisit. I'm a big Cronenberg fan, but I don't think I really gelled with this one the first time I watched it. James Wood (🤢) being the star probably didn't help.
I Saw the TV Glow (2024) - I got to see it at my local indie cinema as a double feature with The People's Joker last month! I bawled my eyes out, but thankfully, so did everyone else around me.
May (2002) - She's so me (minus the murder and mutilation, of course).
Swallow (2019) - Has one of my favourite ending shots in film history.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011) - The script was far too Whedon-y for me to enjoy, but I cheered so loud when they unleashed all the monsters on the staff.
Rocky Horror (1975) - I have fond memories of my mother sneaking 14-year-old me and my 10-year-old sister into our first live viewing (I think the only reason she succeeded was because my sister hit puberty early and looked a lot older). We'd known about the show for most of our childhood because both our parents worked in theatre and would often play showtunes around the house, so we'd already memorized most of the songs (minus Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me, which our parents would skip for obvious reasons).
I'd love to hear some of you're thoughts on these films. If you're comfortable sharing.

PhantomStrider's Modern Cartoons Ranking And My Thoughts On Each Individual Cartoon
To Start, I First Watched This Video Back In 2016 Or 2017 (Can't Tell Which One To Be Honest). I Got Into A Handful Of Those After Seeing That Video. Here's The Video In Question:
youtube
I'm Only Speaking About Each Cartoon In Order Of His Ranking And That His Ranking May Not Reflect My Thoughts On Each Show. In A Separate Post, I'll List Off Some Of The Cartoons That Were Snubbed From The List. Now For Number 10.
Tumblr media
Right Off The Bat, We Have A Show That I Have An Interesting History With. This Was One Of Many Cartoons That I Was Introduced To Via This Video. I Like This Show, But I Wouldn't Call This My Favorite Nick Show. This Show Kinda Planted An Idea That Might Or Might Not Be Present In Most Future Projects Of Mine (Large Families). I Rarely Watch An Episode Of This Show Nowadays. I Haven't Seen Any Episodes Past Season 4 (I Saw The Movie And The First Season Of The Casagrandes As Well, But That's It). Watching New Episodes Wasn't As Much Of A Priority As It Used To Be. Also, Have You Ever Had That One Person Who Fell Into Controversy That You Were Sure Was Innocent When The Initial Controversy Was Happening, But With Hindsight, Now Knows That The One Person Really Was That Bad? For Me, That Was Chris Savino. Also, I'm Only Reading Fanfics For This Nowadays Instead Of Watching The Show Itself. Moving Onto Number 9:
Tumblr media
I Never Watched This, So I Can't Really Give My Opinion On It. I Have The Whole Thing Recorded Onto The DVR, So I Could Watch It At Some Point. It Has Elijah Wood (Frodo From "Lord Of The Rings") In It, So That Might Help Make Me Want To Watch It. For Number 8:
Tumblr media
Yet Another One I Haven't Watched. If It's On Paramount Plus Or Netflix, Then I'll Watch It. Let's Hope The Next One Is One That I Have Watched. Let's See If Number 7 Is It:
Tumblr media
Okay, This One Is It. I've Watched This Before, And Liked It, But Haven't Seen It In Years. I Was Introduced To It Through The Video. I Should Revisit It Sometime. Number 6:
Tumblr media
I Never Watched This Outside Of Clips And That One Simpsons Couch Gag:
youtube
That Show Was Just Always There, Y'Know? Considering That I Got Satellite TV In The Summer Of 2017, I've Definitely Seen And Heard About It When The Third Season Was Going. Let's See What Number 5 Is:
Tumblr media
I Watched The Whole Thing On Paramount Plus Back In 2022 And I Remember Liking It. Along With Its Predecessor, I Should Get Around To Revisiting This At Some Point. With How People Were Calling Korra A "Mary Sue" (Some Probably Still Do, IDK), I Hope Netflix Doesn't Adapt This Like They Did With ATLA, That Would Be A Whole Headache If That Were Ever To Happen. For Number 4:
Tumblr media
Aw Yeah, Now That's What I'm Talking About. I Finally Watched This In The Summer Of Last Year, And I Really Like This. What I Could Say About This May As Well Have Been Said By Many Others (Vailskibum94 Included). I Know It Led To A Bunch Of Successors, One Of Which Is On The List, While A Bunch Of Others Have Been Snubbed. For Number 3:
Tumblr media
In Hindsight, I'd Probably Have This And GF Switch Positions On The List. I'm Actually In The Process Of Revisiting This. I Posted On Here And Reddit About The Show Quite A Bit Recently. The Last Episode I Watched Was "Sophomore Slump" And, Marco Will End Up With A Rude Awakening And A Love For Linkin Park When He Finds Out About Star And Tom. Also, I Watched Saberspark's Video On This Earlier Today And Yeah, I Think Amphibia Or The Owl House Should Be In That Position On The List Instead. Also, I Heard About Star Executing Order 66 On A Lot Of Characters. After Initially Watching This, I Must Have Blocked Out A Lot Of This Show Since Initially Watching This. Whatever Excitement I Had With Seasons 1-2 And The Battle For Mewni Special Seems To Slowly Be Withering Away As The Episodes Go By. Next Up On This, For Number 2 Is:
Tumblr media
One Of The Few Shows On The List That I Heard Of Prior To Watching This Video. I Watched The Majority Of Season 1 On Cartoon Network And That's It. I Have A Lot Of Shows I Need To Get Around To Watching. Onto The Honorable Mentions. The First Honorable Mention Is:
Tumblr media
I Never Watched This. Was Weird Al Involved With This Or Something? Honorable Mention Number 2:
Tumblr media
Oh. That. Should I Remind You That The Video Was Made In 2016? This Was Another Show That I Had Heard Of Prior To Watching This Video. You Know How When Someone Uploads A Full Episode Or Movie, Said Episode Or Movie Is In The Bottom Corner Of The Video And The Audio Is Pitched Up To Evade Copyright? That's How Me And My Sister First Watched The Show. When She Eventually Got The DVDs Of The Show, I At Least Got To See It The Way I Should Have Seen It. I Think The Show Fell Off Harder Than SVTFOE Could Even Imagine. I Never Watched A Single Episode From Season 5. I Watched Videos From Cyrus The Great And Smarty Pants And Read Posts From Tumblr's Own The Immaturity Of Thomas Astruc And I Still Haven't Watched An Episode Of Season 5. I Watched The Movie Though. Before I Go Too Crazy About This Show, Let's Get To The Next Honorable Mention:
Tumblr media
Another One I've Heard Of Prior To Watching That Video. Same With We Bare Bears, I Remember Liking It, But I Haven't Seen It In Years. At Least It's On Disney Plus, So I Could Rewatch It. For The Last Honorable Mention:
Tumblr media
The Last One That I Heard About Prior To Watching That Video. I Never Watched The Show, But I'd Love To At Some Point. I Even Have The Happy Meal Toys From Way Back When. For Number One:
Tumblr media
This One I Heard A Lot About. I Watched The Show In 2020 On Hulu (Seasons 1-4) And HBO Max (Season 5, The Movie And Future) And I Remember Enjoying It. I Need To Revisit It. Thankfully, WB Is Reissuing The Complete Series Set Next Month.

Heyyyy do u have any wlw/GL film recs it can be dramas movies anything at this point im so desperate 😭
Hello!!!! Thanks for the ask! I love the topic haha. I'm going to give you 8 recs, I hope you like them! (synopses taken from imdb) The Handmaiden / 아가씨 (2016) A woman is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress, but secretly she is involved in a plot to defraud her
Tumblr media
I don't think I've watched this movie since it came out, so my memory is a little fuzzy. I remember thinking it was brilliant and entertaining; I found the plot and characters to be compelling and I was really rooting for Lady Hideko to get a happy ending. The cinematography is so delicious, as is the romantic tension between the lead female characters. However, I did find the sex scenes to be a little... not to my taste but my opinion might have changed in the last few years
Colette (2018) Colette is pushed by her husband to write novels under his name. Upon their success, she fights to make her talents known, challenging gender norms
Tumblr media
A Historical biopic about the life of Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette. It's another movie I haven't seen since it came out but I also enjoyed it. Although married to a man (who is also a dickhead), Colette has relationships with women, most notably, Missy, who is male presenting. (I don't remember if Missy's gender is ever defined in the movie, so I'm not sure if "women" is the correct term to use when describing them. I might be misgendering them as the real-life Missy, Mathilde de Morny, did go by Max/Uncle Max in their later years.)
Tumblr media
The Favourite (2018) In early 18th-century England, the status quo at the court is upset when a new servant arrives and endears herself to a frail Queen Anne
Tumblr media
Here we have another biopic, this time it's about the relationship between Queen Anne, Sarah Churchill, and Abigail Masham. I adore this movie! It's soooo fantastic to see queer women be so ruthless, cunning, terrible and desperate. Gosh, I love how love and ambition are depicted throughout. It's fantastic! All three female leads are excellent.
Atomic Blonde (2017) An undercover MI6 agent is sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a missing list of double agents
Tumblr media
Charlize Theron plays a bisexual baddie in a spy action movie where she is hunted down by James McAvoy?? Yes please and thank you!
Shiva Baby (2020) At a Jewish funeral service with her parents, a college student runs into her sugar daddy and ex-girlfriend
Tumblr media
This is one of my favourite movies. It is a horror dressed up as a comedy. THE INTENSITY is sooo unreal that it inspired me to write an original story! I love everything about it! Plus, YES to bisexual and sex-work representation!
Bend it like Beckham (2002) Two ambitious girls, despite their parents' wishes, have their hearts set on careers in professional soccer
Tumblr media
Yes, the main character ends up with the male love interest. But this movie is still soooo queer! Jess and Jules are gay for one another, I don't make the rules! Kiera Knightley wanted them to be together and so did everyone else. If they ever made a sequel (which they should), it could be about them reuniting and getting together. I watched this movie soooooo many times growing up.... lol Calamity Jane (1953) The story of Calamity Jane, her saloon, and her romance with Wild Bill Hickok
Tumblr media
Another biopic but this time, it's a musical haha. Okay, yes, Jane ends up with a man and yes, the real Calamity Jane was married twice in her life to men. But when I watched this as a child, it awaken something in me. The movie is so queer-coded, I could see it even as a little child who didn't know what queer was yet. I haven't seen it in over a decade, maybe more, but it left a huge impression on me. Plus, The Windy City and A Woman's Touch are absolutely certified jams. (side note: when I watched A Woman's Touch for the first time, I remember thinking that I wouldn't mind living in a cabin with my best "gal friend" 😂) Now for a TV show I watched growing up (when I was WAY too young to be watching something so adult) that made me feel the feels:
Sugar Rush (2005) 15-year-old Kim has just moved to Brighton and developed an earth-shattering, hormone-surging crush on her new best friend, Sugar
Tumblr media
Coming-of-age/ sexual awakening stories aren't always my thing anymore, as I don't care to watch teenagers exploring their sexuality but I watched this when I was 10(??), and it was very important to me. It's not a very good show and is probably considered to be super outdated now, but I found it formative. Plus, when I was growing up, there weren't any (not from what I can remember) shows or movies with a lesbian lead wanting to be in an interracial relationship with her best friend. It's an important part of queer TV history. Plus, it has Andrew Garfield playing one of the wettest male characters ever lol
Thanks again and I hope you like my recommendations! 😊

ok so i was tagged by the lovely aria @calumthoodshands in this and what i got from her drunk explanation (love u aria) on the post is that we're talking about our top 8 shows that you need to know to know me 🥰 i definitely rambled here way too much for no reason but oh well <3
911 (2018 -): hmmm do i need to explain? i feel like people heard and seen me lose my mind over the weewoo show. this is currently what's shaping my life. i take the day off on tuesday cause it's when the new episodes air for me. yes it's that level of brainrot.
skam (2015 - 2017): this show shaped me as a teen gonna be real. i watched it in my last year of high school and seeing this type of real show about teens where at the times all the shows with high school were like tvd and gossip girl and such it was refreshing! i do believe that for full impact of watching skam you needed to hunt episodes on google drive and wait for translations as you're avoiding studying for your finals but it's great in any viewing shape and form.
parenthood (2010 - 2015): this is one of the shows that i used to watch weekly as it aired with my mom. it's about family and we've grown attached to the bravermans 🫶 it gave us many good crys!! also peter krause my beloved is there (even though i would have fought adam braverman many times).
ted lasso (2020 -): a show that just brings joy to my heart <3 im probably gonna cry when it's gonna end in a few weeks. every episode that i watch of this show i get some faith in humanity and when i don't think it can get better, it does!!
this is us (2016 - 2022): show of all time. the amount of tears this show brought out of me. made me have a full panic attack watching a certain episode and it's one of the best episodes of the whole series. this is another show i watched with my mom where we tuned in every week to watch together and it was our hangout time that i still very cherish. again very family driven storylines so yeah 🥹
schitt's creek (2015 - 2020): how does one explain the love i got in my heart for the rose family and co? a show i definitely procrastinated finishing cause i didn't want it to end!!! just as good as everyone say it is and i loved every second of it.
glee (2009 - 2015): when i tell you being a gleek was my whole personality for years i am not kidding. watched this baby since it came out and i would wake up at 4am so i could watch the episodes before school and then later on burn them on CDs. i had posters, magazines, merch, everything. like half the songs i know are from glee. watching glee from 10 years old will change your brain chemistry i promise you. i will admit that i stopped watching after the quarterback episode but at a point of time (literal years) this show was my everything.
always sunny (2005 -): most awful people in the world but you can't help but love them. pretty sure it's the longest running sitcom at this point? if not it will be. i did base my personality after some stuff from the show for a while. my bio on insta is still "champion of the sun ☀️" after all these years. i dressed up as charlie in the day man episode. it's just a really fucking funny show.
honorable mentions: the boys, teen wolf (until s3b), abbott elementary & derry girls!
im gonna tag @myfalsedevotion @cowboy-buck @buckleyseddie @merry-the-cookie @pxrxmoore if you guys feel like it, no pressure!!
also goes without saying but if you haven't watched something in here i highly recommend them!!

But I'd like to make more content like ask blog stuff cause that was always fun back in the day! Even if Tumblr isn't the same as it was, I still really enjoy making content like that for fun. anyways haha my most recent cosplay is the tenth doctor from Doctor Who! You can see it here
But I also have my babyboy Steve Harrington still <3 Been cosplaying him since 2016 ugh

this is really sudden but any movie recommendations, im in a bit of drought for this to watch right now and i’m up for anything, especially if it’s horror related, or gay or can be interpreted as gay you know what i mean?
Horror and gays, two of my favourite things. Here's some movies that are mostly both.
My top choice is not-quite horror, and you've probably seen it, but just in case you haven't, Stand By Me (1986) is one of my favourite movies, and it's Stephen King, so it definitely has horror vibes, even if it's never out and out scary.
As for horror that's kinda gay? (I'll try to get the obvious ones out of the way since I'm not sure which ones you already know about.)
Ginger Snaps (2000) and Ginger Snaps: Unleashed (2004) feat. my favourite probably autistic, definitely (gender?)queer Brigitte Fitzgerald.
I know it's really popular now, again, but the old Interview with the Vampire (1994) was pretty queer for its time. Obviously the show outshines it in terms of queer content, but hey, I love these two idiots.
Tomie (富江) (1998) from Japan is pretty cool and queer. In a similar vein, Wishing Stairs (2003) (which I think is the third? one in the Korean Whispering Corridors series) still sticks in little queer teen me's mind.
Obviously Jennifer's Body (2009), this is like my comfort film lmao.
The Quiet (2005)
and
Excision (2012) feels pretty queer to me, but others might disagree. At the very least, Pauline is so wonderfully weird she's basically queer in my books.
All Cheerleaders Die (2013) was a lot more fun than I thought it would be.
also, maybe it's not overtly queer enough for other people, but the friendship in The Battery (2012) which is one of my FAVOURITE ZOMBIE FILMS OF ALL TIME is a pretty good one. It could be homoerotic if you squint??
Lyle (2014) and What Keeps You Alive (2018) are a very specific brand of overtly queer horror that is specifically, canonically queer, but not my favourite type of queer, if I'm being honest. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't say more. Lyle is an incredible film, and not just because Gaby Hoffman is so so beautiful and absolutely just knocks it out of the park. What Keeps You Alive is... less good, but fun to watch with pals, I guess. It's that kind of horror.
Speaking of beautiful people, Don't Kill Me (Non mi uccidere) (2021) Alice Pagani and Silvia Calderoni I'm sorry? My gender exploded. I don't know why it has such a bad rating on imdb. It wasn't amazing, but it was fun and unique. Worth a shot, imo.
The Perfection (2019) what a fucking ride. Pretty queer. Maybe don't eat first.
The Midnight Swim (2014) isn't quite horror and isn't quite queer but it is female-centric, and I don't think enough people have seen it. It deserves a watch.
The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015) was a girl's boarding school which already made it queer enough for me haha. Some good scares in this one. Better than anticipated.
And, speaking of boarding schools, The Silenced | 경성학교: 사라진 소녀들) (2015) is a Korean movie set during the Japanese occupation of Korea in the '30s and idk man. Beautiful, weird, gay. It was good. If you like this one, you will probably like A Tale of Two Sisters (장화, 홍련) (2003) which is (probably) not queer but very, very good horror and very beautiful.
They Look Like People (2015) is another one like The Battery. Could be homoerotic if you squint. Obsessed with the male friendship in this one, and the mental illness factor. I really love this movie. This is the movie I would maybe double-feature with Super Dark Times (2017) for top five fave boy-friendships.
Raw (Grave) (2016) arguably not queer, but certainly queered desires or 'othered' desires. Another female-centric horror. I love this one. Blue My Mind (2017) feels Queer AF. It's like if Fucking Åmål (1999) was a horror movie. I also recommend Fucking Åmål, but it's not horror, it's just queer.
Thelma (2017) actually queer. Beautiful, extremely well-done, not crazy about the ending.
Would it be weird of me to mention The Shed (2019) Maybe I just wanted it to be queerer? I can't actually remember if it was now, just that the potential was there.
And, not quite queer but definitely good horror, check out Magic Magic (2013) if you haven't seen it. Girl Asleep (2015) is horror adjacent, not super queer, but also just... so weird and good and fun.

Listen. I've been in fandom since the "paper zines were all we had" era. So OP's right -- like so much else in life there's been this shortening of attention spans / ability to focus. And the "consumerism instead of personal entertainment and community bonding" is an important point.
But what's interesting to me is -- running right in parallel to what seems to be described here as a culture of jumping into a new thing, while it's running, and then leaving when it's done, and cutting ties with the people you were briefly in the other thing with -- running right in parallel with that are new fandoms that themselves continue to persist.
Like, yeah, Supernatural -- it started in 2005, but it kept putting out new content through 2020 (as we all who were here on Tumblr -- in SPN fandom or not -- so vividly remember and continue to commemorate!). It's an old and persistent fandom, and I don't know its exact status know, but there's a reason it persisted.
And of course I won't talk about the Star Wars and Star Trek posts I still see come across my dash. Or the regular, new posts of LOTR meta or art. But they do! I think nobody is surprised by that.
You might point to those fandoms, including SPN, as containing or having been started by a previous generation in fandom. People who were more used to the older mode of doing things; fandoms that started before the "content" commodification and the elevation of bite-sized everything.
Also, I have to point to SPN, again, as an example of a fandom for a piece of media that was released under the older media model: 15 years worth of seasons, usually released once a week. Others have talked about what the "binge era" of streaming release has done to fandom; the negative impact it has had on the way fandom used to build a community *in between* the dates on which new episodes (or whatever) were released. Now it's "dump an entire season out there at once", and fandoms become split between people who watched it quickly and are digesting the whole thing in order to talk about it; and people avoiding it because they haven't gotten around to it yet (because that's a bigger time commitment than watching 1 hour each week).
Anyway, I guess what I wanted to point out was that even from my limited individual view, I see fandoms continuing to persist. Some portion of fans AREN'T joining while the media is in progress and then abruptly leaving soon after it's done. There ARE people doing that. But there's another track of fandom, as it were, where people are sticking around. And they aren't all "old" fans used to the old way of operating, either. It's fans of all ages.
Gravity Falls aired from 2012-2016. In 2023, it still has an active fandom. It's a smaller fandom than it was while the show was airing or for the year or two after it ended. But, it's consistently active. (In fact, it's consistently active across multiple platforms, although those platform circles don't always overlap -- Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, reddit, YouTube, etc.)
Who exactly is participating has turned over during the last 7 years. Some of us have been here for that long or longer, and we've watched people drift off to other fandom pursuits, while others continue to find the show and come in. Sure, in 2017 (a heady year soon after the show ended, while some new content was coming out in other forms), a fan was able to organize a zine project that was able to get enough submissions for a 100 page zine (with only a handful of people contributing more than one piece; that was Wayfaring Strangers). But in 2023, I was able to get 72 people applying to participate in a multi-artist lyric comic project (we're almost done!); and believe me, I don't have *that* huge a reach.
I've always been a person who joins a fandom and then tends to stick around for about 10 years (maybe a little less; sometimes more). But because I've been in fandom this long, I've observed that how long a person sticks with a fandom varies hugely. It's very personal! Some folks will be active for a few months. Some will stick around for a few years. Some will be long-haulers. That's been true for decades.
In my personal experience, based on people I follow, I can also see that "The Adventure Zone: Balance Arc" (which ran from 2014-2017) still has people creating for its fandom. (I'm not *in* its fandom but I follow people who are. So I can't speak to how big a fandom it has at this point, but it's clearly still there.)
This is not a refutation of the original post, here. It's more to say, in a hopeful way, that older ways of doing fandom are still in operation; even for fandoms that have arisen relatively recently. I'm sure if someone tried to survey active fandoms, you'd find more. It's not ALL high-paced content-producer driven.
Yeah, there's a distressing amount of that, and there are people for whom that has become the pace of their engagement with fandom. I can't say whether they *like* it, or not. But I can say that there are still a good number of people who reject the whole "the show's over, time to close up and move on" thing. Who do still enjoy fandom itself -- the community -- at a bit of a slower pace.
Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.
We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.
The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.
Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.
Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.
There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.
Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.
We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.

Move slowly and do not break things
FROM JAPAN 1
Tumblr media
Kyoto neighbourhood temple, April 2024
Good news. Japan's long running experiment with fiscal irresponsibility, decades in the making, is going well. The international bailiffs haven't shown up in the middle of the night and even Tokyo's stock market has perked up, something long deemed utterly improbable. Life goes on, everything is spic 'n span, the dazzling food halls of the department stores are busy, as are the more modest shopping malls that have come to disfigure suburban Japan. And, of course, the trains run on time. How all of this is possible remains hard to explain, just as hard as when I last visited, in 2016. (1)
Look around, though, and you can see how prosperity is quietly seeping away. Industrial output is falling, household savings have evaporated and tax revenue has been going down since 2017 - the latter obviously... concerning if not calamitous for the world's most indebted country.
As the economy loses speed, incomes decline and the per capita GDP is by some metrics now less than Italy's. The government just keeps issuing new bonds to cover the annual shortfall, adding to the pile. Perhaps inertia has something to do with it, the assumption that if the budgetary trickery has worked so well for so long, why change it now? Or there simply is no alternative: as the country needs to keep going, the tap of fictional money cannot be turned off.
Geriatric Japan continues to be the gentlest of anachronisms. It is leading the way, showing other countries how to age with a measure of dignity. Until recently, the big cities had remained immune from demographic erosion, but that is no longer the case. The population is in decline in all of the prefectures. But it is in the countryside that the phenomenon is most visible. The elderly go about their remaining business in silence and many village houses show few signs of life. Look closer and it is obvious no one lives there any more.
Tumblr media
Abandoned houses in the village of Sekigahara, near Ogaki, Gifu Prefecture (April 2024)
The government has faced at least this part or reality: immigrants, mostly Asian, are finally becoming a more common sight in the cities. It doesn't make Japan a multi-ethnic society like the UK or Canada, but it signals, as I wrote earlier, an unprecedented change to the fabric of Japanese society, accustomed as it is to cultural homogeneity and ethnic exclusivity.
Still Japan carries on in all its Japaneseness. Some of it is frozen in time, some of it is up to date, but it is clear that much of what constitutes Japan's face to the world goes back a long time: Sony, Hitachi, Toyota, Yamaha, Mitsubishi, Canon are names that belong, in essence, to the 20th century. The commercial brands that established Japan's global identity, even the smaller ones like Kikkoman (sauce) or Shimano (bicycle gears) have little novelty value. Uniqlo is one of the few Japanese brands to have spread worldwide in recent years.(2)
Tumblr media
Not enough of those. (National Arts Center, Roppongi, Tokyo)
Like Europe, Japan has missed the boat of global connectedness. It hasn't come up with anything that compares to Facebook, Apple, Google or Amazon. Not invented there. Instead Japan continues to manufacture earth moving equipment, 35 mm cameras and mass market wrist watches. This is not to belittle Japan's efficient manufacturing sector, its rigid work ethic or its still thriving creativity. But it is not what creates the trillion dollar corporations of the 21st century. Japanese smart phones? Swept aside by the Samsungs and Xiaomis of Korea and China.
I noticed a corporate slogan of Hitachi that said "Inspire the Next" but in reality Japan hasn't inspired much in a long time. It is not a frivolous country, much of it is dull, static and regimented. Japanese society is unfailingly civil and conservative, too obliging to foster disrupters and visionaries. Not too many Elon Musks have popped up in Japan. It is not part of the Japanese genius.
In many ways one should be grateful for this because it can be argued that the Instagrams and TikToks of this century have not made the world a better place. Au contraire, they have made the global rat race a lot rattier. They have brought anxiety to billions and the scourge of disinformation and post-truthism. So instead of obsessing about Japan's demographic and industrial sunset, we might as well let them potter on and be grateful for our reliable Toyotas and our Panasonic appliances.

(1) The total of Japan's publicly issued bonds (national and local) now stands at around 1,300 trillion yen or around 225 % of annual GDP. The government gross debt-to-GDP ratio is even higher at 258,2 % (2023).
By comparison: Germany 68,6 % China 71,8 % USA 126,4 % Italy 149,8 %

Friday the 13th.
I want a new tattoo. Last Friday the 13th tattoo I got was when I got my first tattoo back in January of 2017. That set of a lot of things. I was so nervous about getting it. But i still am glad that I got it. She is adorable.
How did my piercings and tattoos go.
Left ear Cartilage in August of 2016, boyfriend at the time thought I was gonna bail on him. I told him I wanted it and knew where we were going to go and he thought I was going to call it off. But he knew if he picked me up I would go through with it. I'm still that stubborn girl.
My elephant came next in January of 17. Boyfriend of above was now an ex. (It's a sad story that is somewhere on this page) I helped out with the education department on Fridays (I got paid to help out so like yeah that was nice) and it was the 13th so a couple of us went together to get tattoos. One got a rose and I don't remember what the other one got. Grad student, sophomore and freshman. Weird group but was lots of fun. I have the video of getting tattooed.
February of 17 brought my industrial. One of my mom's quilting friends had hers and when she told me how long she had had it. I was like sold I want one.(I had wanted one for a while it wasn't like one and done thing) And so I did. The following day went to the piercing place with a friend and got that piercing.
May or June my best friend had pierced my nose but that didn't stick for very long. It was technically pierced twice I think by her.
July of 17. Somebody came into the campground with an eyebrow piercing and I asked them how much it hurt and they were like didn't hurt a thing. There are no nerve endings in your eyebrow. I don't remember if it was the following day or another time but I did get my eyebrow pierced and I have had it ever since. Again this was a I was thinking about it and somebody came in and I was sold. Everybody I've talked to about it have been like that's not for me but it looks good on you. I forget I have it most of the time.
August. Of 17. Back when I got my eyebrow pierced. (I think it was actually around the 4th of July). I made an appt with one of the tattoo artists at Electric Chair. Then in August. I ended up getting Stitch sitting on the moon. Pinterest showed me a photo of him sitting on a moon on somebody's foot and I was like I just need to have this. And I chatted with them and they were like please not the foot and I was like of course not. I want it on my thigh. So I got it on the top of my thigh. 3 hours later it was completed. First two hours were fine. Last hour was the worst (I blame the lidocaine)
Nothing exciting happened in terms of tattoos or piercings for a little over a year and a half. Next piercings happened in June of 19 I was going through a really shitty break up and added two piercings to my collection of piercings. These are also ones I forget I have even though I see them every day. 😅
September of 19 rolls around. I moved out of my home state and across the country. I officially found a place to live and with the last of the cash I had from traveling. I got my nostril officially pierced. Idk if it ever fully healed. Like it still feels swollen. If that makes sense.
2020 chaos happens. Before I went back to my home state. I got Saturn tattooed on the side of my wrist (not fully inside not fully outside). It's on the side. It's between two freckles and it makes them look like moons. I got this to remind me to take my time. (Saturn is the god of time in some places. But also wealth and agriculture) I always have a watch on so it's all "I have the time and I have time " I don't need to push myself everything works out.
6 piercings 3 tattoos. In 3 years. Kinda wild.
Nothing happened through the end of 2020.
January of '21 was rough. And I ended up getting another piercing. This was also a revenge piercing. I got my septum pierced. Probably shouldn't have. But I really like it. I haven't figured out how to change it yet. (I got it pierced with a hoop and had the shop change it to a horseshoe when I could, it took me a while to figure out how to hide the horseshoe 🤦‍♀️)
Nothing else pierced or tattooed in 21.
22, I got my bellybutton pierced in February. Reason was to motivate myself to lose weight. It didn't work. But I still like it 😂. I probably play with this one the most.
May 22. Supernatural anti possession tattoo on my chest with boyfriend, boyfriends brother and bfs brothers girlfriend.
July. 22 supernatural tattoo from above wasnt the best and I wanted the black to be filled in better. I go to tattoo shops asking if anybody would do it. They said I needed to get a tattoo (which is fair). I ended up getting a penguin in space on my left arm for my grandfather who passed away in June of 2020.
October 22. Tattoo convention. Looking at places. Not really sure I'm going to end up with a tattoo. I was hoping to get a sunflower with the Fibonacci sequence on my left forearm. But that's a lot of fine lines and I didn't want to do that. Instead I find this really cute tattoo of the Nidorans(male and female) and was instantly like this. I need this on me. Somehow. She had an opening so I was able to get it later that day! Back of the calf kinda hurts. But I still love it. I got it touched up and ahh. It's just perfect. I'm thinking of going back to her to get Umbreon and sylveon on my other calf. But I probably won't. I do want to get Umbreon at some point. But idk if I want to get slyveon with the way it's been recently....
And that brings the total to....
8 piercings and 6 tattoos.
I kinda want to get the other nostril pierced so I can do the metal chain over my nose but bf has vetoed that idea plus I promised my mom no more facial piercings...
I have a list of tattoos I want to get.
Something akin to Feyre's back tattoo (moons down my spine)
Kinda want to get an underboob tattoo but that's still up in the air.
I want to get a hibiscus flower(s?) On my left shoulder blade.
The sunflower Fibonacci sequence or something math related because.
Shiny Umbreon and sylveon together (maybe... Or maybe Umbreon and Espeon (even though that's what everybody expects) well high level friendship and love for owner. Idk I could probably swing it as not a tattoo tying me to a person....
Maybe a black band on my middle finger. (ace solidarity)
If somebody's art speaks to me probably that. The nidorans spoke to me 😂 (I promise I wasn't high...)

Just in the practical, a strike is no problem for me as a TV viewer - I've talked aplenty about my backlog of series sets to get through, and really, it's not a matter of not having the desire to watch these shows (since, after all, I wouldn't have purchased them if I didn't have that), it's managing my time to do so.
Let's see, my current watch list is in the realm of...
Finish Killjoys
Eureka
Fringe
Grimm
Black Sails
MacGuyver (the reboot)
White Collar
Plus a whole bunch of other shows that I have collected as individual season sets and not full series (and I also have a trip through Amazon coming this summer, so I've got more series to add into the mix). And various shows from my childhood that I've gotten on DVD, like Courage the Cowardly Dog and Hey Arnold and plenty others. Plus I still have like half the Arrowverse to watch (took a break after finishing the 2016-2017 season).
And, y'know, once I actually do the watching, then comes the BIG project - reading the fanfic. Honestly, I look forward to that almost as much if not more than the shows themselves. Cuz, y'know, once I look to the fanfic, everything gets gayer.
Speaking of, my fanfic is also a distracting project at the moment, since that to-read list is closing in on crossing the 16000 mark - I just went through and tried to be all organized and shit by pulling aside the fic that are part of a series and grouping them together, particularly to make sure I actually HAVE all the parts of a series.
All this without even addressing the streaming backlog, either, cuz I've got shows that I probably could watch there that haven't been prioritized while I focus on the long list of physical media to get through.
And, of course, there's also the video games - I've got two video games on my immediate list I KNOW will add plenty into my list (House of Ashes and The Quarry have almost a thousand combined fics to pull from at the moment - some I'll disqualify in the choosing, but there's still a good amount I'll be grabbing). And depending on how long the strike lasts, who knows, I could end up being able to add some more.
My issue is not things to watch, it's arranging my schedule TO DO the watching. So a strike is kinda to my benefit, cuz it gives me time to chip at the various lists and not see massive amounts of additions.
But yeah, I'm the "give me ALL THE MEDIAS" guy and I'm saying that a strike is good thing. Y'know, in case you were still trying to figure out where you should stand on it.
