Hey so apparently there's this thing called symphisis pubis disorder that can just happen when you're pregnant due to the strain your pelvic bone and muscles are under and it's not harmful it just hurts really, really bad to the point that walking or even sitting can be extremely painful.
Guess what 🙃
#I'd been hurting but after getting home from work today when I tried to get changed#I couldn't lift my right leg while standing to do so because it hurt so bad#I have to like shuffle/hobble very slowly to walk#my husband actually wheeled me down the hall into our bedroom in my dead father's wheelchair SO THAT WAS FUN#and I have an extremely high pain tolerance too#:(#I hope this is just a temporary flair up

WARZONE.
summary — once you caught his eyes, he cannot stop thinking about you.
genre — comedic fluff!
Megumi couldn’t help it— Help his slight and ever-so-growing obsession over you, that is.
Ever since you, a new student, transferred to the Tokyo Metropolitan location of Jujutsu High he couldn’t help but be curious. Sure, it’s always the talk of the school if a new face shows up out of the blue… But you? It felt weird to him. He plastered on his signature stoic expression as he waltzed down the halls from his dorm, letting a faint yawn escape him as he neared Yuji’s door.
“Coming in, you better be wearing clothes or else,” he forewarned the boy, opening the door lazily and slowly removing his shoes. As he placed it neatly to the side of the door, an unfamiliar voice caught his attention.
“You don’t wear clothes? So you just walk around butt-naked and everything?”
The sound of Yuji’s whining instantly pierced his ears right after. “No! Megumi only enters my room after my shower, so technically… Not my fault!”
The boy in question rolled his eyes and walked around the corner of the entrance, seeing you and Yuji situated at his PC.
Megumi let out a soft sigh of relief and muttered out, “Just so you know, normal people wear clothes after they take a shower.”
“W-Why are you still acting like I’m completely naked?” Yuji groaned out, slumping in his gamer chair with a loud huff. “I had socks on.”
Megumi could see your expression in the corner of his eyes, a look of disbelief and pure confusion.
“… Socks?” You reiterated, blinking blankly at the boy in front of you.
“Yeah. Socks,” Yuji replied, perhaps a little too proud of his statement. A soft slap sound from Megumi’s palm met his forehead as he shook his head.
“But you didn’t think underwear would be the priority?” he deadpanned.
“My feet get cold,” Yuji replied and casually grabbed a nearby chip packet from his drawer of endless snacks. “Anyway, whatcha doin’ here Megumi?”
This time, Megumi looked around in thought, pondering about why the heck he was even there in the first place.
“I need some paper,” he boredly responded, making a beeline to the opposite side of the room in a hurry. Hell, he had no idea if his only chance to not look like a fool in front of you was actually going to be there, but with little hope, he continued to stride over to Yuji’s messy bookshelf.
He scanned from top to bottom, bottom to top, side to side, his eyes were getting overstimulated with how much Yuji had stuffed all kinds of trinkets on the ledge of the shelves.
“Lined? Blank? Ooh, or these fancy eco-friendly ones I made?” Yuji called out to Megumi, shuffling out three small stacks of different types of paper. Megumi let out a shaky breath, of course they would be at his desk. The very area he wanted to avoid. He turned around and reluctantly hobbled back.
“Lined.”
Taking one sheet from the stack, he swivelled his stature away again to the entrance, obviously leaving you and Yuji bewildered.
“Just one sheet of paper?” You asked Megumi, who was struggling to step into his boots.
“Yeah,” he muttered, grunting as he finally slipped his foot in after struggling for what felt like a century. He could already feel a thin layer of cold sweat form along his nape as you spoke.
Yuji turned to you and shrugged his shoulders, before patting you roughly on the arm. “Can you force him to stay? I need another person on my team for Warzone.”
“Why don’t you ask him? He’s still here—“
The sound of the door shutting at the front was enough for you to shut up instantly.
“— Nevermind.”
At your words, the pink-haired boy stretched his arms up and stood on his feet, rolling his shoulders as if he was preparing to lunge into battle. The mischievous glint in his eyes gave you the impression that he was, in fact, going to fight off his dear friend for him to play a game… Or prepare himself to be beat up, and then plead his surrender. As much as you wanted to watch the gruesome battle between two teenaged boys have a bickering show-down, you interrupted Yuji and pushed him back into his chair.
“Fine, let me talk to him,” you sighed, before heading your way to the entrance. Yuji on the other hand squealed in delight, following right behind you before grabbing hold of your wrist to high-five his hand with yours.
“Great because I was really not looking forward to another argument— I mean, I would win of course… But I would feel bad for Megumi if he lost! Soooooo… I’ll let you talk to him,” Yuji exclaimed, boastfully leaning against the doorframe with his chin held high. You stood outside his dorm room and shut the door in his face, before walking to Megumi’s room right beside his.
You knocked once. Twice. Possibly three times, you’ve lost count, until it finally opened. Megumi opened the door with a grumble, not bothering to look up as he barked, “I don’t need anymore paper—“
“Not about paper,” you added, peeking your head around the slight crack he managed to pry open. “Come play Warzone.”
Megumi eyed you blankly and you couldn’t help but feel a bit weirded out. Was there a strand of hair sticking up? Something wrong with your face? No, it was him trying to calm his nerves and train his brain to go back into his zen state of mind for a moment— Just for a second! So he can actually talk to you properly without worrying about stammering his words. Thankfully, it’s something he’s good at.
“Warzone?” he questioned before sighing, “Did Yuji ask you to do this?”
“Yes and no,” you glanced back at Yuji’s closed door, before turning your attention to Megumi again. “I guess he was pre-planning to ask you and it seemed like he was really getting into it, so I just offered.”
Megumi stiffened. If there was one other thing Yuji was good at, it was be subconsciously picking up on emotions at the right times (only the right times, he’s not giving him that much credit), and perhaps he had caught on to Megumi’s white lie he suddenly used. It was a stupid cover-up, he had tons of paper in his room already.
“Ahh, I see,” he mumbled before quietly stepping out of his room and closing the door behind him. You smiled at his acceptance to your invitation and walked back to Yuji’s room with Megumi trailing behind.
“… You’re new, right?” he asked, stuffing one hand in his pocket and using the free one to reach out to open the door for you.
You quickly thanked him, entering Yuji’s bedroom and hearing his screams. He must be in a practice game by now waiting for the both of you. The muffled sounds of gunshots and comms gave you enough context.
“Didn’t think you’d notice,” you said playfully with a laugh, making your way inside and opting to sit on Yuji’s bed. Megumi trailed in and flopped onto the free chair next to Yuji, and continued to talk to you. “You seemed the type to be in his own world”
“Well, I am… But, I did,” he responded to you quietly with his eyes locked onto the screen. A faint nice kill’ emerged from his lips as he watched Yuji’s fingers fly across the desk with his mouse, headshotting an opponent. His eyes flicked back to you in intervals and tapped the tips of his fingers on top of the desk. He cleared a lump in his throat before breaking the awkward silence between you two.
“So, why did you transfer here?— To this school I mean. Not in a rude way,” he stammered, briefly looking at your face and turned back to look at Yuji’s screen. He wanted so badly to crush his forehead into the wall.
“Came here from the Kyoto region, I think Gojo wanted me to be here,” you mumbled, watching Yuji completely get demolished in the game.
“If Gojo sees potential in you, you must seem like a well-adaptable individual,” he added, eyes still glued to the screen. “That being said— he also has the urge to take someone under his wing if you’re substantially adorable to him and are in need of his ‘educational expertise’… As so he would call it.”
You let out chuckle, letting your gaze wander to the two bodies haunched over the screen; Yuji, childishly hogging the keyboard even though he wanted Megumi to play with him, and Megumi, not caring in the slightest. As you looked at him, the subtle glance of your eye caught you off guard— He was already looking at you.
“What?” you mouthed at him, narrowing your gaze until he shakes his head. A hand comes up to gently rub his cheeks, covering the slight smile you didn’t see. The faintest hue of pink dusted his cheeks, reaching down to the column of his neck.
“Nothing.”

To Love Kaz Brekker | Kaz Brekker x fem!Reader | Shadow and Bone | Part 2
Masterlist
Preface: A botched solo mission leaves you injured and forced to kill to escape. You enter the Crow Club in a hurry and don’t talk to anyone. You isolate yourself in your room so you can fix yourself, but someone decides to make his presence known outside your door.
Kaz Brekker is a different kind of ‘love from a distance’ yk
Part 1 Part 3
Warning(s): Mild injuries, mentions of blood, description of injuries
Tags: Softcore pining, awkward interaction, losers in love
To love another is no easy feat. It takes patience and trust. Respect and compassion. To be able to wait for someone through a finite storm is an ability not everyone has, nor wants. But you have it. And you’ll wait through any severity of weather, even if there’s no promise of a rainbow at the end.
Hobbling to your room like a battered old woman, you made sure to cover yourself with a cloak you took off a merchant before your arrival. Jesper and Inej observe you skirt around the Crow Club, hugging the side walls before scurrying up to your room. The sharpshooter and wraith share a look before shrugging. They’ll check in on you later and they know better than to annoy a heartrender.
You shrug off your outer clothes and examine your wound through the shredded fabric of your shirt. Some shitbag nailed you right in the torso with a bullet. Luckily, he didn’t hit anywhere vital, but it still hurt, and you’re still bleeding. With a soft grunt you untie your shirt and carefully peel it away from your body. A clean entry wound presents itself at the front of your torso and you’ve no doubt the exit wound looks worse.
With a sigh, you carefully sit down on a chair, grunting lightly when you irritate the injury. Looking down at yourself, you carefully start to weave your tissue and muscles back together, face cringing lightly from the feeling. It didn’t hurt because you were blocking pain receptors, but it felt weird to your other nerves. The squirming and sewing-together of your insides felt equivalent to sliding your hand through a large trough of mucus-covered meat. You wanted to shiver but you couldn’t.
Sewing together your entrance wound took an agonizingly long time. If it was on someone else, you could’ve done it in ten minutes. Perhaps it was due to the fact there’s no rush; you’re safe in the Crow Club (hopefully). The real issue is trying to do the exit wound, which is almost directly behind you. You’ll need mirrors and very flexible shoulders.
Standing and shuffling around your room, you manage to assemble a doable set up--with a standing mirror behind you and a wall mirror in front of you. You adjust both to be able to see your exit wound--which is as gnarly as you thought. You sigh deeply and bring your arms behind your back, attempting twist your wrists so your palms are facing your body. You succeed, but it’s extremely uncomfortable, and you already hurt from being shot.
That’s when you hear it. A strong, steady heartbeat outside your room. No one announces themself--no one knocks--but they’re standing there. You know who it is. You know why they’re there.
“Kaz,” you call out. “People can suffer in silence, you know. You have to see them to know if they’re okay.” A few seconds pass and you know Kaz is thinking. You turn your head to the door when it slowly starts to creak open.
When Kaz opens the door enough to walk into your room, he immediately looks to the side when he sees you in undergarments. You can see him swallow nervously and his heart picks up speed a little.
You look back at your reflection. “You should be coming up with a new plan with Inej and Jesper. I didn’t fail, but I did alarm. And that’ll cause problems.”
“The planning can wait until you’re fixed.”
“I’m already halfway there.” Your wrists and hands flex uncomfortably when you move them, soft grunts leaving you. “I’ll be patched up by the time you’re done.”
Kaz sneaks a glance at you, eyes lingering on the wound you’re trying to patch up. Then his gaze moves to your arms and hands, which are in a specific position that makes you look like a demon’s possessed you. You’re succeeding; he can see your wound being manipulated and the hole getting smaller, but you’re struggling. Swallowing, he takes an unsteady step forward until he finds himself traipsing over to you.
You pause your heartrending when you see his reflection standing behind yours. You blink, then slowly turn your head to look at him. “What? You can’t help with this.”
He’s struggling to keep your gaze as it switches between your eyes and down at your arms. Picking up his cane to hold between his arm and side, he slowly reaches out to gently press his gloved hands against your arms.
Your brows scrunch when you’re trying to figure out what he’s doing. He’s not grabbing your arms, rather he’s supporting them. He’s taking tension from your shoulders.
You turn your head back around and continue to heartrend yourself, having an easier time than before. You’re painfully aware of his close proximity to you--you’re insanely aware of his physical contact as well. You can feel him shaking and you can hear his heart racing.
“You don’t have to do this,” you say quietly. “Your heart is racing. Please move away if you’re uncomfortable.”
“I’m fine,” his response is slightly forced and shaky. “Stop listening to my heart and focus on fixing yourself.”
You sigh softly and try your best to fix yourself as fast as you can. You cringe lightly when you reach a particularly painful part of your body where you didn’t block the pain receptors. You let out a strained grunt in response and you can see Kaz’s eyes look at you in concern from the mirror.
“I’m fine,” you quickly say. “It just hurt a little. I’m almost done.”
Kaz nods and looks back down at your hands and back, silent.
You’re done in two minutes and as soon as you are, you move away from him to keep him from being uncomfortable. You turn to him and smile softly. “You didn’t need to do that. I would’ve managed.”
Kaz places his cane back on the floor and leans on it. “You got done faster though, didn’t you?”
You stare at him for a moment before nodding. “I suppose I did. Thank you.”
Kaz attempts a small smile, but it’s almost indiscernible--it looks like a weird wince. “We meet at the bar in ten.” He turns and walks to the door. “Jesper and Inej are wondering if you’re okay.”
“Tell them I’m fine and I’ll be down in five.”
Kaz nods, not turning to look at you. He closes the door on his way out and you can hear his heartbeat move farther and farther from your room.
You notice how it’s faster than before.
You notice how yours is faster than his.
Ah, yes. To love Kaz Brekker is no easy feat.

day two: armor
prompt fill for #veilguard30 challenge. 1k, noah hawke & anders friendship. after the arishok fight, hawke is given new armor. she and anders discuss what the gift might mean.
Noah is gifted new armor before she even has the strength to walk on her own again.
She suspects that Meredith didn't expect her to actually survive the aftermath of her fight with the Arishok. She'd been skewered straight through, after all, and she's told later that Meredith had declared a new Champion of Kirkwall while said Champion was busy bleeding out on the floor. A smart political move, probably, giving a fancy title to a popular troublemaker who'd die before she got the chance to misuse it.
Joke's on Meredith, though, because Noah has the privilege of being friends with the best damned healer in Kirkwall. Anders had worked his magic, and a few days later she'd woken up, bed-ridden and in more pain than she'd ever been, but still breathing.
She's fairly certain one can't un-declare a Champion, so Meredith has to grin and bear it. To her credit, she commits. A week after waking up, a knock comes at the door.
Noah is in bed--she's newly able to hobble around the estate if she leans on someone, but it takes more out of her than it has any right to--so Anders, who's been staying with her out of unwillingness to leave his patient alone, answers. Noah can’t make out the words of the conversation downstairs, but she makes out Anders’ clipped it is taking everything in me to be polite to you tone and the sound of something heavy being set down before the door closes again.
“Messengers from Meredith,” Anders reports back with a grimace. “She sends her best wishes for your full recovery, and a… new set of armor.”
Noah raises an eyebrow. "What’s wrong with my old armor? Besides, you know, the spear-sized hole in it.”
“Don’t, Hawke.”
“It’s my gaping chest wound. I’m allowed to joke about it.”
“And I’m the one who put in the work to keep your insides on the inside. I’m allowed to tell you it isn’t funny.”
He means it, Noah can tell, but his expression is more annoyed and less afraid, which is a good step. She knows she scared her friends. They’ve been coming by every day, to help stave off her restless boredom and to give Anders a break, and the soft, pitying looks have been driving her mad. That Anders feels comfortable getting annoyed with her again speaks well to her recovery.
She drops the joke, anyhow. “I suppose I should open my presents, then. Give me a hand, will you?"
Anders helps her up, and they slowly make their way downstairs. Noah does her best not to be frustrated with their crawl of a pace; she's always relied on her speed and agility, and she feels exposed without it. Anders says she'll make a full recovery, and she can't really ask for more than that, but patience has never been a virtue of hers.
They do successfully make it down the stairs, eventually. Anders stays quiet as Noah surveys Meredith's delivery, trying and failing to not be impressed. It's far nicer than any armor she's worn before. Much more… champion-like, whatever that means. Noah wonders, not for the first time since Leandra's death, if her mother would have approved.
"I hope you aren't thinking of trying that on," Anders says after a few moments. "No armor until you're walking unassisted, at the very least."
"No fun," Noah shoots back absent-mindedly. Anders notices.
“Are you alright?”
“Never better,” she says dryly.
Anders rolls his eyes. “Besides the gaping chest wound.”
“Oh, so you’re allowed to joke about it.” Noah gestures back upstairs, and they start shuffling in that direction. “I’m fine. Just wondering what Meredith wants out of this.”
Anders’ expression darkens. “You in her pocket, probably.”
“Well, she can’t bloody well have me,” Noah scoffs. “Armor doesn’t make me hers.”
“Maybe not, but it’s one piece to the puzzle. The armor, the title, Maker knows what’s next. You’ll have me shipped off to the Gallows by the end of the month, if she has her way.”
They're only halfway up the stairs, but Noah whirls on him, throwing off the arm she has looped around his shoulders for support; clumsily, slowly, but forcefully enough that her indignation is clear. “Anders, you can’t actually believe that.”
Anders shrugs. “I believe she’d try.”
“I’ve spent my entire damned life helping shelter apostates. You think I’d cave to Meredith?”
“You’ve spent your life sheltering your family,” Anders corrects. He moves to support her again, but she shrugs him off, bracing herself against the banister instead.
“You’re family, idiot," She snaps. "I’d die before I turned on any of you.”
“I—“ Anders sighs and seems to deflate. “I know you would. I’m sorry.”
“I won’t wear the armor, if you think it’s going to somehow turn me into a mage hunter.”
“No, don’t avoid it on my account. I don’t mean to be difficult. I’m just tired.”
“You're always difficult. I'm used to it." Anders snorts, then yawns, and she seizes the opportunity. "Why don't you go home tonight, get some actual rest? I'll keep through the night, I promise."
Anders visibly hesitates, but if the dark circles under his eyes are anything to go by, he needs a break. "Varric did say he'd be by to see you this evening. I suppose I could leave and come back in the morning, if you're sure."
"I'm sure. You've done more than enough for me."
They finish making their way back to Noah's bedroom, and Anders takes his leave, leaving her alone with her thoughts for the first time in days. There's plenty that hurts too much to think about right now--the way Bethany had glared at her before leaving with the rest of the Wardens, for one, or how Isabela had kissed her on the cheek and skipped town right after she woke up, for another--so she settles on the armor instead.
Whatever Meredith's intentions, she earned that armor. She'd nearly died for this Maker-damned city, and she'll take an impressive title and shiny new armor as payment, thank you. The Champion of Kirkwall will don her gear and use her status to keep her people safe, not to play Meredith's games.
Once she's able to fight again, that is. Her energy spent, Noah drifts off to sleep, comforted by the belief that, for now, she is nobody's pawn.

Chapter. 4 from my 5+1 fic :)
Vance didn’t go to school for the next couple of days because he caught something like the flu. He was in bed, hot, cold, sweaty, and shivering. Vance thought, “This is it. This is when I die.” A little dramatic, but with how he felt, it seemed to be looking that way.
As he stared up at his bedroom ceiling blearily, watching as his fan spun lazily, he thought about a number of things. Most of all, he thought about Bruce, undeniably shooting the fever across his body even higher.
He groaned into his pillow, his pillow, his hair slicked against his forehead, he tried to sleep multiple times, always interrupted by needing some water, or needing the bathroom. Everytime he stood up was agony, his head dizzy and throbbing. Vance didn’t even know how he got sick in the first place, he just did, which pissed him off royally.
He was about to doze off again before he heard the doorbell ring, which was very unwelcome. He scowled and turned on his side, facing the wall, willing whoever was at the door to leave. The doorbell rang again, and again, until finally it went away for a second, and then again, Vance groaned. He sat up, his hair tied up messily, with an old torn up band t-shirt and some shorts. He probably looked horrible.
He slowly made his way to the front door, and opened it, only to find Bruce standing there. Was this a dream? Was Vance hallucinating? Maybe he was dying. He squinted his eyes at Bruce, trying to figure out why he was there or not.
“Hey!” Bruce started, and then shifted uncomfortably at Vance’s gaze, “Are–Are you okay? You’re looking at me weird.”
Vance just sniffed and wiped away the sweat collecting on his forehead, “I’m sick, you dipshit.” His voice was nasally and congested which sucked.
“Oh, are your parents home?”
“No, it’s just me, what’d you need?”
“I just-I missed you at school the past few days. Just wondered what happened to you.”
“Aww you missed me? Love that, now leave me alone I’m dying.”
Bruce laughed, “You’re not dying Vance, when are your parents gonna be home?”
“They’re not gonna be home for a while, it’s just me.” Vance swiped away the sweat on his brow once again, chills tingling down his entire body. Bruce stayed on the doorstep, and Vance nodded his head inside, he couldn’t handle the sun in his eyes any longer.
Bruce walked inside and shut the door, taking his shoes off at the door. “You’re gonna get sick if you stay here too long.” Vance managed out, his throat was scratchy, he hobbled into his kitchen to fill a glass with water. “I don’t mind, you missed all the drama.”
Vance hummed as he plopped on the couch, stealing a blanket, Bruce followed and sat next to him. He proceeded to tell Vance everything that had happened in the last following days of school. And apparently, there was a lot. And that had kept him awake longer than anything before, though his pounding headache never went away.
Having Bruce at his side was a lot more comforting than he thought it’d be. Even if he did doze off in the middle of it, Bruce didn’t seem to mind. And at the very end of it Vance fully fell asleep, only waking up to the sound things being moved around the kitchen.
“You robbing me Yamada?” He asked groggily, turning to look behind him, Bruce had on his moms apron with a ladle in hand. Which made Vance snicker, “Welcome back to the land of the living. I’m making some soup, since it sounds like you haven’t eaten at all today.”
And then it hit Vance, “Where the hell did you get soup? We don’t have any of that.” He got up from the couch and momentarily recovered from his dizziness, he shuffled into the kitchen and watched as Bruce added some freshly chopped vegetables into a pot of soup on the stove.
“I went out and bought some, don’t worry you don’t have to pay me back.”
Vance scoffed, “Wasn’t planning on it.” Bruce chuckled at that, looking oddly a little…attractive? The lightness in his head worsened the longer he was looking at him. So he turned and filled his glass again at the tap, downing the water, he watched as Bruce stirred the pot, and a delicious smell permeated throughout the kitchen.
His stomach growled loudly, which was the first time it had done that ever since he had woken up. Earlier he felt too sick to eat, but smelling some good food immediately changed him and his body’s mind. Though one thing stuck out to Vance in his hazy mind, why is Bruce doing all of this? He knows the answer already, but he still can’t help but ask himself why?
He can’t really imagine someone just taking over like this, seeing Vance in his sorry state and just–taking care of him, it’s a foreign concept beyond his understanding. But he only accepts it because he knows that Bruce would throw a hissy fit, and he was not in the mood for that. Vance was snapped out of his daze by the clinking sound of bowls, Bruce poured some soup into two bowls, then whipping his head back and forth looking for something.
Vance scooted past him and opened the drawer for two spoons, he handed them wordlessly to Bruce he smiled and placed them into the two bowls, he nodded his head toward the dining table. “So, are you used to walking into sick peoples houses and making food for them? Or is this a one time thing.” Vance asked with as much a smile he could muster.
Bruce pulled out Vance’s seat for him, which shouldn’t have charmed him as much as it did. Bruce then sat right next to him, “Well I don’t just break into people’s houses and make food for them.”
“Kinda looks like it.”
“Just eat the damn soup Vance.” Bruce rolled his eyes and chuckled, Vance just shrugged and pulled the spoon to his lips, cooling it down by blowing air on it. Once he thought it was cool enough, he put the spoon in his mouth and the warmth of the soup ran throughout his entire body, and the taste was amazing. He hummed aloud without realizing it, and he closed his eyes without realizing it. His eyes shot open quickly, and the fever in his body had to have risen in temperature.
He opened his eyes only to find Bruce watching him with an unreadable expression, blush dusted his cheeks, but he flustered once Vance’s eyes were open. Quickly putting his attention toward his own bowl, “Where the fuck did you learn to cook man? It might be the fever talking, but shit.”
Bruce’s blush on his face deepened, “I cook a lot at home, usually for the entire family.” He said almost shyly, Vance tilted his head, “They’re lucky, they get to eat some gourmet shit everyday.” He said as he hungrily put another spoonful in his mouth. And for a moment Vance forgot about how sick he was, the chills and the dizziness in his mind, just him, Bruce, and the food.
Bruce looked away, embarrassed, which pleased Vance as he happily ate the entire bowl.

As We Ponder Belief
(2p!Prussia x Reader) - Chapter 5
Note: This story is based vaguely during the mid 1200s in Eastern Europe where the Teutonic Knights fought the Northern Crusades to try and convert the native pagan population to Christianity. As a result, this story will have heavy religious themes all throughout. It should also be noted that, while referencing real-life events and locations, I am not striving for full historical accuracy. This is for the sake of the story I am telling.
Once again, this series will have heavy religious themes throughout, including discussions of bible stories, doctrine, and scripture verses, as well as critical analysis of Christian doctrine and beliefs. So, if you don't like that, you will want to skip out on this.
Gilbert came by later with breakfast for (y/n). However, he came by with a different knight instead of having Gillen by his side. One who, similar to Gillen, remained fairly quiet while Gilbert rambled on and on to (y/n).
I suppose Gillen doesn't want to see me for the time being. I wonder what bothered him?
After finishing her meal, (y/n) thanked the gentlemen before reaching for her crutches.
"Going somewhere?" Gilbert asked, handing her plate and fork to the other knight.
"I want to go for a walk. All I've done since I've gotten here is lay down, sleep, and occasionally go down the hall to use the bathroom. I'm starting to feel a little stir-crazy," She stated, fumbling with her crutches as she slowly brought herself upward.
"Well then, I'll accompany you!" Gilbert proclaimed, gesturing to himself with a hand over his heart, to which (y/n) nodded in approval.
Gilbert stayed beside her as she hobbled out of the room on her crutches. Once in the hall, Gilbert waved the other knight off, which he complied, leaving in the opposite direction.
"Wait, Gilbert. Are we not supposed to have one other person around?" She asked.
"If we were in a closed room, yes. But seeing as we're out and about, we should be fine. Besides, that guy is a bit of a killjoy," Gilbert laughed with his last comment, which was curious to (y/n), seeing as Gillen wasn't the most humorous man either. But even so, something still drew her to him. Was it his eyes? The way he treated her? She wasn't sure.
As the duo went down the hall, she noted that while the floor seemed to be made of wood and tile, the walls were all of reddish brick. Wooden archways stretched up around the walls, criss-crossing along the curved ceilings. Along the brick walls were decorated windows, each one with small, intricate details in the framing. Light shone in through each opening, illuminating the halls while also giving her a view of a green, grassy courtyard outside. (y/n) was surprised by the beauty of the fortress. Earlier she'd just quickly shuffle down the hall and back again. But now that she was taking her time, she could see just how lovely the architecture truly was. As she slowly hobbled across the floor, she realized that the air felt a little too quiet.
"Say, Gilbert," She started, prompting a hum from the man walking by her side. "Where are the other knights? It feels sort of barren here right now."
"Some of the knights are off doing patrols around the area. Others are riding out to warn other villages of the rising pagan threat. Other knights are potentially going to stay in those villages to protect the residents. The only reason Gillen and I are staying here is to keep an eye on you," He stated matter-of-factly. "After what happened with your village, the knights are on high alert."
(y/n) felt a pang of sadness in her chest at the mention of her now-decimated village, as well as a shiver up her spine, recalling the hellish visuals of that night. Gilbert must have sensed her change in mood, or at the very least understood it was a touchy subject because he followed up with a likewise response.
"I know that Captain Nikolaus went to apologize to you the other day. Saying that he takes responsibility. But," He sighed, running a hand through his white hair. "I wanted you to know that I'm sorry, too. We all are. What happened that night should have never been. We kept two guards by the town to alert us of any warning signs of an attack, but apparently, the pagans were sneaky. And on that night they struck so quickly that they barely had time to react. One guard survived, but the other was killed."
Upon hearing about the guards in her village, (y/n) recalled the image of a knight with ice-blue eyes. "Gilbert, was the guard that survived Gillen, by chance?"
"He was," Gilbert seemed surprised. "You mean to tell me you met him before the attack?"
"Not exactly," (y/n) admitted. "I just saw him earlier that day."
Gilbert nodded in acknowledgment. As the knight and the maiden continued their stroll, she began to wonder about Gillen. In particular, how he behaved earlier that day.
"Gilbert, can I ask you a question about your brother?" She asked.
"Depends on the question," He smirked.
"I think I bothered him earlier today."
"What makes you think that?" Gilbert looked in her direction, raising a brow as the two of them rounded a corner, continuing their stroll.
"Well," (y/n) started. "Earlier when he was changing my bandages we got to talking about how he happens to be both a doctor and a knight. He explained that he was aiming to work in a hospital in the Holy Land, but when I asked him why he was here and not there, he seemed to get upset. He refused to answer my last question, instead just heading out as soon as the treatment was finished."
Gilbert looked ahead and sucked in a breath through gritted teeth. "Well you see, here's the thing. The Teutonic Order itself actually began as a charity organization in Jerusalem. Specifically a hospital. The Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary. This hospital was established to help aid pilgrims coming to the Holy Land. However, when the Holy Roman Emperor and the Pope set their sights on spreading Christianity throughout Eastern Europe, they declared that the knights should leave their post in Jerusalem to fulfill this new mission.
"It was during this time, or shortly afterward, that Gillen and I were to join the knights. I only joined as a knight, by the way, I'm no doctor. I would have just gone down to defend pilgrims. Anyway... So instead of going down to the Holy Land as a doctor like he initially planned, he ended up getting wrapped up in a crusade he didn't ask for."
(y/n) took the time to digest his words, taking in the information. While listening she began to feel a great deal of sympathy for Gillen. So that's why. He had all these plans for his future, only for life to rip the rug out from under him.
"That sounds terrible," (y/n) commented.
"Eh, yes and no," Gilbert gave a light, half-hearted shrug before continuing. "While it is true that he didn't want to come up north, he still gets to be a doctor up here while still fulfilling the other duties of the Teutonic Order. As well as taking the same vows and whatnot."
"Vows?" (y/n)'s interest was piqued. "What are the vows? I knew a vow of celibacy was one, but there are others?"
Gilbert nodded, grinning ear to ear, as if thrilled to share some of what he knew, or at the very least gush about the order itself. "When a man joins the Order of the Teutonic Knights, he takes upon himself three vows; poverty, obedience, and celibacy. Very similar to the brothers of the Knights Templar, believe it or not," Gilbert said matter-of-factly before going into an explanation.
"The vow of poverty says that we are to have very few personal belongings. We each have only one or two changes of clothes, and some of us even keep a bible on hand. Everything else is shared by the brothers of the Order. The vow of obedience is fairly straightforward. We vow to follow and obey God and the Virgin Mary, as well as the Master of the Order and his eventual successors, even until death." Gilbert and (y/n) rounded another corner before he continued.
"And lastly, the vow of celibacy. With this, we promise not only to the Order, but to God, that we will never marry, nor have any sexual relations of any kind. Granted, there are some exceptions to this last one. Some brothers decide to do a half-service to the Order, helping only with a campaign or two. Those men may have a wife back home, or be able to marry once their service is complete. But for those of us here, we're full-time knights. So we take that particular vow quite seriously."
(y/n) nodded along, continuing to hobble along her crutches to keep up with Gilbert. "I see," she replied, "I'll be honest, I did not realize so much went into being a knight in the order. It almost sounds a little stressful. Why such strict rules?"
"They are to help us fulfill our duties as warriors of Christ!" Gilbert took a step back to stand before (y/n), balling his hands into fists and placing them on his hips, puffing out his chest with pride.
"And to keep you from acting out and getting off-task."
A familiar voice interrupted the conversation. Turning around, (y/n) and Gilbert were met with Gillen making his way down the hall. (y/n) felt her heart stop for a moment as he came forward, the memories of that morning surging back to her. As well as their conversation and the unfortunate way it ended.
Gillen sighed. "Gilbert, I asked you to come by and help me in the infirmary as soon as you were done serving (y/n) breakfast."
Gilbert comically responded with a sheepish grin and a dramatic shrug of his arms. "She got bored and wanted to walk around. Like I was going to let her wander off by herself!" He snickered, his tone containing a twinge of self-righteousness.
Gillen only shook his head before casting his eyes upon (y/n), who appeared to flinch at his gaze. His eyes felt cold. "Are you feeling well?" He asked.
"Just a little sore," she admitted, trying not to look him in the eye. "I should be fine, though."
As if sensing her discomfort, he responded, saying, "If you are uneasy about earlier, please do not worry about it. It is just procedure." He then turned to his older twin brother. "If you would, please escort Miss (l/n) back to her room. Judging by the distance, I would say she's had enough walking today. After which I need you in the infirmary," Gillen turned on his heel and headed back down the hall, but not without adding another comment. "I need your help making sure I have enough bandages and herbs for any knights that may come in injured over the next few days."
After making a small comment about his brother being almost as much of a killjoy as the other knight from before, he helped (y/n) turn around and head back down the hall.

Alright, this one feels much better than the version I initially posted. As always, let me know what you think!

The General (Part 1): Geto Suguru x Fem!Reader
synopsis: matchmaking day is upon you, and you’re in for more than just a partner.
wc: 2.1k
tw: none - just a bunch of backstory. (part 2 is going to be much more interesting and Geto WILL appear.)
masterlist
The trees along the grounds of your family’s estate are blooming in full force, once again signaling the coming of the most anticipated day of the year: matchmaking day. Beautiful petals of yellow, red, and pink would decorate the lawn and as a child, you would gather them up and toss them around. You imagined your wedding would be just as majestic as the coming of spring and that matchmaking day would be the happiest day of your life.
For years, you had watched your older siblings be married off to wonderful and loving partners, their names being called from the crowd of people who gathered in the village square every year. For years, you eagerly waited your turn to meet the love of your life. And last year - the year before you were set to make your debut in the matchmaking pool - you found him.
The man you wanted to be set up with - Yuko Hashinara - was perfect.
As the son of a potter, he wasn’t filthy rich, but for a whole six months, you dipped your hands into the kaolin just to get closer to him. Yuko seemed to take a liking to you too, his soft features and green eyes following you around the workshop while you made conversation or giggled over town gossip. He had even touched your hand tenderly once; the white clay smearing over your fingers with care. He hadn’t admitted that he loved you, but today would change all of that.
“Mother! What should I wear?” All of the formal wear in your closet now seemed too plain for what you planned on being your debut into society as Yuko’s Betrothed. You no longer had the scores of clothing your sisters offered or the keen eye of your eldest brother. It was just you now, and as the youngest, there was a need to show everyone you were just as worthy as your siblings of a perfect match.
Your mother bustles in hastily, attempting to fix your hair while you rifle through the clothing that’s available to you. “Don’t wear red; only whores wear red. Perhaps the hunter green one will do.” When you pull out the silk garment your mother detailed, your shoulders fall a bit, noting it’s plainness.
“But will this look attractive for Yuko?” you wonder, trying to see the dress in better lighting. Gold and brown swirls decorate the dress around the neck and hemline but it still looks inelegant. “You know, like I’m supposed to be his wife?” Your mother’s hands still on your hair, and for a second, you wonder if you’ve said something wrong.
“This dress will look beautiful on you, like it did on your grandmother when she was matched with her husband.” Ah, yes. Grandmother. At the mention of the old matriarch, you’re silenced immediately, recalling the love she and your grandfather had upon their union. “We should only hope you are as lucky as she was to find a worthy match.”
“Yuko is a ‘worthy match’,” you retort, but your mother doesn’t reply, finishing your hairdo and stepping back to admire her handiwork.
“Now let’s get you dressed; we don’t have a lot of time.”
_______________________________________________________________________
When you arrive in the square with the other girls of the village, there is an uproar of chatter about who would be matched with who, and whether or not the matchmaker would be fair to some of the older girls who had never been matched with before.
You’re not overly friendly with any of the others gathered - due to your family’s estate being on the far side of the main village and as such, every trip into town required a long trek - but you’re welcomed nonetheless. As you stand in the cool, spring breeze, your eyes roam around the boys who were gathered on the left side of the square. Your eyes fall upon Yuko, and a sigh escapes your lips, your mind fluttering off to begin fantasies of the rest of your lives together. You would have an extravagant wedding, a lavish reception, and an equally attention-bringing birth of your first born: a son you’d already named in your head.
But as soon as you get to the day your son would take his first steps, the sound of the matchmaker’s voice echoes across the courtyard. She was short - very short - with small, beady eyes, and white hair that feel in a braid down her back. Her wrinkled skin holds all of the years she performed this ceremony, and you’re sure if you stare long enough that she might even shrink a little.
“We will now begin the matchmaking ceremonies with a prayer…” Your nerves bundle up in your stomach as the old woman begins reciting a prayer to the gods that you completely ignore. Couldn’t she just say all of the names and then pray? What did the gods care about the order of things?
It isn’t until you hear the soft murmurs of the women around you that you know it’s time to look up and resume your fretting about the pickings, which were sort of slim to begin with.
“Kashishime Okkostua… and Junte Yakamura.” The first couple of the ceremony had been announced, and you look at the brightened expression of a woman in the sea of female faces, who excitedly approaches her betrothed with arms open wide. The following twenty or so names were read off with similar results; only a few couples do not already know each other, and they approach each other with a timidness you could only describe as painful to watch.
“Yuko Hashinara and…” Oh, no, the time had already come. You look at the man who wrings his hands nervously, eyes glued to the matchmaker, while you hold your hands similarly, heart pounding beneath your dress wildly. The name of the woman falls from the matchmaker’s lips in slow motion, it seems, but it’s obviously not your name.
It’s not me.
It’s not me.
It’s.
Not.
Me.
Your first thought is to go numb. As you eye the female who emerges from the crowd, your self-preservation instincts take over, analyzing the way she looks while you fix your fallen countenance. She is nothing amazing to look at, you reason, but as they acknowledge each other and depart from the crowd, your heart goes with them, never to return to the hole in your chest. Not even a trade from another other-worldly spirit could bring it back.
The rest of the day blows by you, and you don’t even hear a single syllable that sounds remotely like your name grace the tongue of the matchmaker. When she sets aside her papers, you and two other women are left standing in the square.
One of them started crying long ago, her face puffy and red. The other crosses her arms and takes a glance at you, shrugging her shoulders disinterestedly. But you… you’re feeling as numb as a rock. You stare at the sand lining the pathway, unsure of what to say or how to feel other than empty. The matchmaker hobbles down from her perch to where you three are standing and looks all of you over once. When she opens her mouth, all you can hear is:
“... maybe next year.”
_______________________________________________________________________
Next year. That’s the only thought that bounces around your skull as you make the embarrassing trek back to your residence. Next year.
But there wouldn’t be a next year.
The one you wanted was already gone, and--
Your eyes lift slowly to the door of your family’s home. Never in your lifetime had you experienced such a painful moment, but you wouldn’t let anyone see you defeated. Even after your mother opens the door and witnesses your shuffle back into the house, you announce to her and your father stoically: “The matchmaker said next year would be the year,” and walk into your bedroom with nothing else to declare.
The pillows on your bed muffle the sobs of your broken heartedness, and cover up the absolute humiliation you had suffered in front of the whole town. You wouldn’t speak of this day to anyone, not even your parents. Next year would be your year.
_______________________________________________________________________
Thunder rattles the windows of your house, and you stare at the various trees being stripped of their buds and flower petals in the pending storm though the panel in your bedroom. This is perfect weather for your mood, you note, and settle into the soft cushion beneath you with a sense of satisfaction. The world mirrors your inner turmoil with this storm, and you like the way the darkness swallows up the bright blue sky.
“Y/n…” A tap on your door signals the arrival of your mother, but you don’t answer, preferring to stare out of the window at the destruction instead. “I’m coming in.” The door is pushed open with ease, and your mother waddles in, holding a bowl of your favorite soup. “I made some soup for you.” You look at the offering with disinterest, eyes sliding away from the bowl and to the mirror across the room.
“Thank you, but I’m not hungry,” you croak. You can’t see your reflection, but you know you look like a wreck. You had snatched out the bobby pins and ribbons in your hair after you cried, then stripped the dress off in haste, throwing it into the corner before dressing in a plain kimono to remain decent. You’re still in that same kimono, even though it’s been almost a day since you’d changed.
“You haven’t eaten since yesterday morning.” The keen observation doesn’t make your stomach growl. Instead, it’s like a stone is sitting in your gut, preventing you from even desiring food.
“I’ll be okay.” Your mother sits the soup down on your bedside table anyways, leaving you in peace just like she found you. A slight hiccup finds its way into your throat, and you want to cry, but you have no tears left at all. Your face is tight and raw, and you want to scrub at it to make it all go away… but you can’t. The matchmaker’s word is as good as a bond, and you can’t break that bond; not even if you tried.
The sound of the front door rattling initially sounds like some aftereffect of the lightning and thunder rolling across the sky, but you notice that the windows hadn’t shook. The pounding sound echoes again, and you find the strength to slide to the edge of your bed, feet dangling in the air precariously.
Your father would be there to get it, wouldn’t he? So why are you moving? Before you can question yourself further, you place your feet on the floor and pad to your bedroom door. Perhaps it was Yuko, and something had gone terribly wrong with his new wife. The thought makes you move even faster, your legs propelling you down the hallway and to the foyer, where your father stood with the door open to the rain. As you crane your head around the wall between the foyer and hallway, you see a figure bent over at the knees, catching their breath and mumbling erratically.
“Can I help you?” your father asks the person, who’s head snaps up, flinging his long, white hair back and showing his startling blue eyes. He’s dressed as an Imperial Warrior in a black and red kimono and hakama with a white sash around his waist, which signifies his rank, but you don’t know what rank white is.
“Sir, I have come a long way,” he begins, panting still. “The Imperial Court is in need of your youngest daughter. I have ord--” Your father scoffs, not even entertaining the man at his feet by listening to his speech.
“I’m sorry, but my youngest daughter is not a fighter,” he cuts the man off with his hand, but the man continues anyway.
“If you would please grant me entry into your home, I will be able to tell you the entire story. I am sure you will allow me this much upon seeing this.” Suddenly, the man reveals a water damaged envelope with the Imperial seal stamped upon it from his kimono. Your father looks at the document, but does not open it.
“Come inside, then. I’m sure you’re weary from your travels. I’ll have my wife prepare you some dinner.” As your father lets the man inside, your peer a little closer at the soldier and find his sapphire orbs boring right into your soul. A charming half smile pulls at his lips, but he turns away to follow your father into the kitchen, leaving you alone in the foyer and to wonder who exactly was in your home and why.

Worthy//Draco Malfoy x Reader
A/N: Okay first, holy shit like two of my fics have like four hundred notes also there’s nearly two hundred of you here??? Cool. This is a super sad piece about Draco after the war struggling with his identity. It’s heart breaking really, but it needs to be written that this is how I see Draco’s character 80% of the time x
Set: Golden Trio Era & Post War
Word Count: 3,050
Warnings: loads- swearing, abuse, death, injuries, violence, self harm
Y/N walked down the halls of Hogwarts, brushing her bleeding fingers along the stone walls, tears bubbling in her eyes. The war was won. She knew really inside she should be feeling elated, happy- celebrating that her life would no longer be controlled by fear or hate. But images of her friends lifeless faces where already beginning to fill her head when she closed her eyes, she’d lost everything- her parents dying at the Dark Lord’s hands before the battle had even commenced, her heart was oh so heavy. Her feet dragged up the stairs of the astronomy tower as she used the back of her hand to wipe the torrents of tears that where beginning to spill from her eyes, running down her face, painting it with sadness. Y/N sobbed as she grabbed her bruised side that had been injured when she attempted to jump in front of the spell that had been aimed at Lavender Brown, before Greyback had brutally murdered her. She climbed the stairs as below her, hundreds of Hogwarts students mourned and celebrated together in bittersweet happiness. When she emerged onto the tower, she sprinted to the edge, hanging her head over the side, letting the screams that had been threatening to come out before, erupt. She yelled out into the darkness in despair, gripping onto the railings until her knuckles began to pale. When there was nothing else left to come out, bent over into herself, breathing heavily, letting her body feel what it needed to. Her sudden silence was broken by the sound of sobbing from the other side of the tower- somebody else was here. Y/N awkwardly walked towards the source of the noise, hobbling slightly because of the shooting pain coming from her ribs. There was a curtain hanging towards the right of the room, that usually hid the equipment that students used in astronomy. Y/N quietly moved the curtain to the side, shedding light into the enclosed space. Huddled in a ball, shaking violently and uttering heart-shattering sobs was Draco Malfoy. He looked up at her as she disrupted him, his eyes flittering over where she stood. His eyes where usually a piercing blue, but they had faded to grey, black rings circling them. His face was essentially white, he was usually pale, but in his current state it was if the boy had never seen the sun. And most importantly, he looked terrified to have been found. Y/N entered the small cupboard space, letting the curtain fall back behind her and she slid down onto the floor so that they were face to face, bringing her knees to her chin. They didn’t speak, Y/N simply sat near to him as he continued to sob into his jacket. When his cries began to come out weaker and more fragile, she leant into him, attempting to give him a side hug. She felt him tense beneath her touch.
“Don’t touch me.” The boy sobbed, barely meeting her eyes. Y/N pulled away immediately, shuffling away from him too.
“I’m sorry.” Y/N whispered weakly, looking down at the floor. Draco simply huffed at her, playing nervously with his sleeves, ignoring her attempts to catch his eye. They sat together for a while, feeling the time pass, but neither spoke, the silence surprisingly comfortable. They’d never really spoken before, they were from very different families and walks of life. They shared their broken hearts however and Y/N could feel his breaking in front of her, just as hers had moments before. Struggling to think of anything to say, Y/N rummaged in her cardigan pocket for a moment before producing a small piece of scrap parchment. She removed her wand from her other pocket too, noting how Draco flinched when she moved for it. Then muttering a spell underneath her breath she wrote on the parchment, Draco watching her silently, unable to see what she was doing. When Y/N was satisfied with her work, she folded the parchment carefully before passing it to him. He took it apprehensively, watching her closely as she stood up to leave.
“Read it. I mean it.” She whispered, before walking away, letting the curtain close the gap between them as he heard her descend the stairs. Draco looked down at the scruffy piece of parchment and almost, almost tossed it to the side. Instead he unfolded it carefully, revealing her neat handwriting. He read:
This is my address. If you need to talk, send me an owl. You are not alone, Draco and there is nothing you can ever tell me that is too much. People care, don’t shut them out. YOU ARE WORTHY OF LOVE.
Y/N x
And as he read and re read her words, more tears began to fall. But this time, they were not of despair but of hope.
XXX
Draco paced his room in Malfoy Manor, breathing shallowly, tears slipping down his face. He wanted to howl in despair as he made a bolt to the bathroom. Once inside, he locked the door with his wand, making sure nobody could interrupt him. He took his shirt off in a hurry, fumbling over the buttons as he threw it to the floor. Draco looked down at his forearm, wanting to scream at the sight of the mark that was etched into his skin. He took his wand in his hand, breathing deeply, attempting to steady himself. He’d left the house today, for the first time since the trials against him and his family, going to Diagon Alley just for a change of scenery, a chance to reminisce on his innocence- not that he’d gotten a chance. Draco had been jumped by a band of particularly angry wizards, muggleborn’s whose families had been murdered by his aunt. He didn’t blame them for their insults or their attempts to tempt into a duel, no, he blamed himself. His wand hand began to shake vigorously as it lay against the mark, his dull eyes watching how it writhed underneath his skin. Draco took another deep breath before pressing the wand closer to the mark, letting it dig into his skin, making his eyes water.
“Sectumsempra.” He whispered quietly, letting the spell shoot from the tip of his wand, burning the skin on his arm. Blood began to appear as his flesh began to tear right in front of his eyes. He let it.
“Deserved.” Draco said to himself as he whispered the spell again, this time harsher leading to the skin physically bubbling. His head began to spin as it hit him how much blood was beginning to come from the wound. Shit. He attempted to fix it with his towel that was folded on top of the sink basin, but the blood soon seeped through and onto his other hand. Draco racked his brains trying to think of a spell that would make it all go back to normal, but he couldn’t, it was all too much. He held onto the edge of the bath as he staggered back, the pain over whelming, each and every one of his senses becoming blurred. As the world began to fade, he heard a screaming Narcissa blow the door apart with her wand before rushing to his side, holding onto his arm, kissing his forehead. And as Draco felt the two of them apperating away into the darkness, he suddenly heard a voice: “you are worthy of love.”
He awoke in a bed that certainly wasn’t his own. Draco stretched out his limbs and scanned the room. noticing it almost immeditely as Saint Mungo’s. His eyes shot straight away to his forearm, noticing it was still tightly wrapped in bandages.
“They couldn’t get rid of it.” Draco’s eyes shot up to meet his mothers. She was standing, pale faced and nervous at the foot of his bed, clutching her right arm with her left hand. “I’m so sorry Dray, it’s the dark magic... I-it can only fade naturally overtime.” She walked towards him resting her hand on top of his, his fingers flinching at her touch. She withdrew them straight away.
“Please, let me be.” Draco croaked, watching his mother frown at his words but comply, sending him a sympathetic smile and apparating away. Draco watched her go and pushed himself up out of his bed slowly, walking to the door of his room. He checked that the reception of his ward was empty, pulling the door closed towards him as he recoiled back into the room. Standing in the middle of the room, he closed his eyes, thinking of the address that Y/N had scribbled on the piece of parchment months before, memorizing it. He felt the room slip away and when he opened his eyes, he was in Hogsmeade, standing in front of a small bungalow. Just as Draco began to realise how truly rash his actions had been, the green door opened to reveal Y/N in her pyjama’s, slightly open mouthed. She sent Draco a weak smile, beckoning him in, moving aside so he could enter her home without their bodies touching. He felt like a fool as he wandered into her home, collapsing into one of the well-loved sofa’s in her living room, right infront of a roaring fireplace. She observed his appearance quietly, taking in his messy hair, the bags beneath his eyes that only seemed to deepen, the hospital gown that hung from his skinny frame and the bloody bandage that was wrapped around his forearm. Y/N didn’t say anything, instead got up and bustled over to the kitchen that was open to the small living room.
“Tea?” She asked gently, motioning to a kettle that sat upon the counter top. Draco nodded and Y/N placed her wand to the kettle, it instantly spouting steam and whistling slightly. He watched as she carefully placed two large, yet chipped mugs onto a small tray, followed by a pot of sugar and a jug of milk. She popped a tea bag into each of the mugs, before pouring water into them, making sure not to spill any as she did so. Then, she picked up the tray and placed it onto the coffee table that sat in the middle of the two sofa’s. Y/N sat down onto the other one, motioning at the tray. “I like to let people do their own milk and sugar, it’s always easier that way.” Draco nodded again, leaning forward to add milk and a sugar into his mug. The two sat in comfortable silence, similar to the first time they spoke on the tower in May. They drank their tea. Once finished, Y/N gave a satisfied sigh and placed her mug back onto the table. Draco followed suit a few moments later, too before pulling himself from the comfort of the sofa.
“Th-thankyou.” He whispered to her as she walked him to her door, opening it for him. He flashed what looked almost like a proper smile for a few seconds, letting her return one.
“Anytime.” Y/N said frankly. “Really.” And with that she stood back, watching Draco leave her house in a flash.
XXX
Draco began to turn up at Y/N’s at least three times a week since the first time he’d arrived- not that she complained, the company was always welcomed. It had been six months since they’d first met on the tower and she could tell that Draco was starting to understand that she wanted to help, slowly trusting her piece by piece. They were sat in her living room as always, two mugs of tea set out on the table in front of them, a splash of milk and a spoon of sugar for Draco- something she’d learnt very quickly. They’d both just set their mugs down with a satisfied sigh when Y/N turned to face him, their eyes meeting suddenly.
“Is there anything you want to talk about?” She asked softly. Draco watched how her eyes burnt with care, glancing at his arm that was still wrapped with the same bandage. He hesitated for a minute and then all at once, pulled the bandage from his forearm, revealing his now very bruised and contorted dark mark. He looked up to her eyes, tensing at the idea of them filling with shame and hatred, but to his surprise found them to be full of sympathy. And then everything began to spill out of Draco’s mouth. He told her everything. He told her all about his painfully innocent childhood, how his fathers abuse had gone from verbal to physical, the circumstances in which he was forced to take the mark that now cursed his skin, about his parents plans for him filled with arranged marriage and forced birth had Voldermort won, but as he spoke Y/N didn’t interrupt or judge or scorn, she listened. And that’s all Draco wanted. When he finished, Y/N shuffled closer to him, ensuring they didn’t touch, but so she was close enough that he could feel her presence.
“You are so brave.” She whispered. Draco shook his head furiously. “No you are. You are brave and good and kind and caring and strong and,” she paused leaning into him, “twice the man your father is.” At the last part of her sentence, Draco collapsed into her arms, something that neither of them were expecting, but a pleasant surprise none the less. Y/N pulled him into her as he clung to her neck, tears wetting her shoulder. She rubbed his shoulders gently as he heaved and sobbed. When he finished, he pulled back, shocked at his own vunerability. But he was met with her smile and that was enough. Draco left that night with a slight smile on his face and a heart that wasn’t as heavy as it once had been.
XXX
Narcissa noticed the positive changes to her son since he’d been going to see his new friend and she was determined to hide it from her husband. You see, the war changed many people positively, but not Lucius. He came home one night furious. He snapped at his wife about needing to speak to Draco before ascending the stairs and storming into his bedroom, robes billowing behind him. He pulled Draco up by his collar, pinning him roughly against the wall, his face just inches apart from his son’s, mouth twisted into a nastly snarl.
“When were you going to tell me about your relationship with that nasty little mudblood girl?” Lucius snapped, forcing Draco to look into his eyes. Draco didn’t reply, he’d learnt no to. He just tried to keep breathing as his dads grip moved to his neck, tightening. Lucius dropped him suddenly, causing him to hit his back hard on the wall, before falling to the ground. “Pathetic.” Lucius spat, using a large, booted foot to kick Draco in the stomach, before striding out of the room. Waiting for him to leave, Draco wasted no time in apparating back to Y/N’s house, this time arriving in her living room, grabbing at his stomach.
“Draco!” Y/N exclaimed, jumping at the wizards arrival but soon noticing his injury. Tears were streaming down his face, and he immediately fell into her open arms, letting her wrap him up in her scent and her warmth. “We need to get to the bathroom okay love?” She asked softly, running a hand through his hair carefully. He nodded. Y/N helped him hobble to the bathroom, sitting him down on the closed toilet seat. Draco wailed slightly as her cold hands began to remove his shirt. “Are you sure I can touch you?” She asked, hovering over the last button. Draco nodded again, but this time desperately. Y/N understood, removing his top. Her eyes were immediately drawn to the new bruise forming on his stomach and she opened the cabinet above his head, returning with an ointment. She rested on her knees as she began to smooth it over his stomach, she noticed that he hadn’t flinched this time. The bruise began to sink back into Draco’s skin, disappearing. It was then that Y/N began to notice the rest of his body. Their were deep scars from cuts all over his chest that she began to fix too, as well as deep cane marks in his back that angrily poked out slightly. She continued until his chest and back were clear. Their eyes met once more.
“Y/N...” Draco whispered, holding her arm in his hand carefully.
“I know.” She responded gently, “Don’t say it yet. You have to be sure.” Y/N packed the ointment up putting it back into the cupboard. He nodded at her words, understanding what she meant. Draco let her take him through to her room slowly. “You’re staying here tonight, I won’t let you go back there... I won’t.” She watched him clamber into bed, resting his head softly onto the pillow. Y/N turned to leave once he was comfortable, but was stopped.
“Stay with me.” Draco choked out, his face illuminated by the bedside table lamp. Y/N hesitated, not wanting to over step the mark. “Prove to me what you told me all those months ago.” She cocked her head then.
“What do you mean?” She questioned. Draco pulled the empty half of the beds duvet over towards him.
“That I’m worthy of love.” Y/N smiled then, catching his eye, before gently undressing, squishing into bed with him. “Can I say it now?” He asked, resting his chin on top of her head and their bodies tangled together. She nodded.
“I love you.” Draco said sighing. “I love you. And before you say it, I mean it, I promise. I didn’t think it was an emotion I would ever feel, but you, you taught me love, Y/N” He pulled her closer to him then, placing a kiss to her forehead. “And I don’t know what this means for our future, but I know what it means for right now.”
“What does it mean?” Draco laughed, for the first time ever since the war, and leant down so that his and Y/N’s lips were ghosting over each other.
“This.” He said gently, before their lips met, joining in a careful yet powerful kiss.
“I love you too.” Whispered Y/N, letting Draco cling to her once more. “So, so much.”

How could you do this babe?
In Breakable Heaven chapter one! Here we go!
Summary: Reader’s ready to celebrate her anniversary with her boyfriend, but things don’t go as planned.
Warnings: Cheating, swearing, drunk people
Word Count: ~2100
“…leave a message at the beep.”
You couldn’t help but be disappointed that he didn’t answer, but didn’t mind leaving a message. “Hey babe, I was able to close the bookstore early! I should be to yours in the next few minutes if you want to celebrate early. I know you like to have ample time to get ready, so I guess I just wanted to warn you. Anyway, I love you. See you soon.” You left the voicemail as you walked to your car. Tonight you are celebrating your three-year anniversary. You even changed into your brand new lingerie to surprise him, wearing a long coat to hide it in public. It felt a little bit wrong not wearing real clothes, but you were determined to make this the best anniversary celebration yet.
The drive to his apartment was relatively uneventful. A light rain started about halfway through the five-minute drive. As you pull up to his apartment building, you notice the lights on in his room. “Good, he’s home” you think to yourself as you open the door, shuffling inside from the muggy DC weather. As you approach the apartment door, you can hear the soft music of the playlist you made last month featuring all of Taylor Swifts most romantic love songs. Your heart flutters as you think of the kind gesture. Of course, he would be thoughtful enough to put on music as you arrived at his apartment. Unlocking the door and untying your coat at the same time proved to more difficult than anticipated, but you managed to nudge the door open whispering “happy anniversary baby” in the sultriest tone you could.
As you took in the rest of the apartment, your heart burst. There were roses everywhere. Candles lit a path to the bedroom. Maybe he did know how to be a romantic. Dropping your things on the counter and sliding your coat off the rest of the way, you tip toed into the bedroom to surprise him since he clearly did not get your message. The next sixty seconds felt as though time stopped. Or, more accurately, you froze and everything else in the world took on an impossible speed.
As you pushed open the bedroom door, three things caught your attention. First, you felt a surprising amount of resistant as you pushed the door over a bundle of clothes you didn’t recognize. Second, you heard the bed bouncing against the wall. Third, you saw streaks of auburn hair running through you’re boyfriend’s hands as he mercilessly pounded into a woman you didn’t recognize.
Apparently, your entrance was too quiet for either of them to be interrupted. All you could manage was to slowly retreat into the living room, closing the door, but knocking into a side table. You could hear them as they stopped moving, running to the door to investigate the noise. All you wanted was to get out of there though. Throwing your coat back over your lingerie, you grabbed your purse and keys, slamming the door shut. You didn’t even turn around when you heard him opening the door and calling your name. Whatever he had to say was not worth your time anymore.
You couldn’t get the image of the two of them in bed together out of your head. You were feeling absolutely everything at once. You felt betrayed. You felt sad. A small part of you was actually glad you had a reason to end it. It had never felt like the kind of relationship that would move on. But still, you thought you were happy with him.
But mostly, you were pissed. Rightfully so, but you had no idea where to go or what to do. Your blind adrenaline carried you to the car, and you wound up at a bar. You don’t even remember starting the car, much less driving, but you knew you needed something to drink. You ran inside, ordering tequila shots to drown the sadness, and sat at the bar. As you sat at the bar, contemplating your existence, a man walked up to sit next to you. You had your fair share of practice with this scenario. You had mastered the right mix “fuck off” and “sorry, I’m taken” to get men like this guy to back off with just a single look. But right now, all you could manage was a halfhearted grin that very clearly said “you do not want to deal with my emotional baggage right now.” It was all in the crazed look in your eyes, you were sure of it.
Nobody else came up to you while you were there. You couldn’t help but think over the past three years with him for signs that he was unfaithful. You couldn’t come up with any, the cheating bastard. He must have been pretty good at hiding the secret phone calls and date nights. But then again, you had your own secrets. Not that they would have made him feel like you do right now.
After sitting long enough to consume four shots of tequila, two vodka sodas, and one dark and stormy, reality set in. All you wanted was to curl up in a ball and scream. Or cry. You were obviously not returning to his apartment, but you couldn’t go back to your own either. There was too much there that reminded you of him. The idea of walking in there to see his sweatshirt on your couch made you feel sick. You were teetering on the edge of a full breakdown when the idea struck you. Penelope.
Penelope Garcia is your best friend. You met her at a Doctor Who convention the same day you met he who must not be named. She was there with Kevin, but they broke up a while ago. The realization that you could go to Penny’s couldn’t have come at a better time. Ha. Penny. You only call her that when you’re drunk. She’ll know what to do. You opened your phone, barely able to call up the Lyft to take you to her apartment. It’s honestly shocking you didn’t fall asleep on the seven minute drive there. Whatever, all you needed now was to get inside and forget about him.
After entering the building, you tried the elevator. Of course it was broken. It took you about thirty six minutes to hobble your way up two flights of stairs to Penny’s floor. With each step, you considered texting her to come get you, but you knew the second you saw her you would break down. You absolutely did not want to start sobbing on these stairs. Too many people could see you. Finally arriving to her door, you were exhausted. Mentally and physically drained. Knock knock knock “Penny?” Knock knock knock “Penny?” Knock knock knock “Penny?” you imitated the Big Bang Theory, knowing the small joke would make you smile, even if just for a second. When the door finally opened, you vaulted in for a hug, not even opening your eyes.
As you squeezed Penny, you finally broke out into a fit of sobs. Whisper yelling, you told her as much of the story as you could remember. “Penny, thank god. I left wo-ork early to surprise Dr-Dr-Drew for our anniversary – hiccup – but he was having s-s-se-sex with someone else…” you let out a strangled sob, not noticing how stiff Penny felt in your embrace. You buried your head into her as you continued “So I got very drunk and came here. Was he cheating on me this whole time?” You asked as your tears turned back to rage. “I even went out and bought this stupid, uncomfortable underwear to surprise him” you shout as your coat had begun to fall open again. After what felt like an hour of crying, but in reality amounted to no more than 60 seconds, you finally noticed something was odd. Two things lead you to a simple conclusion that was somehow difficult to comprehend in your drunk state.
First, Penny felt taller. Second, she was wearing converse. Upon noticing these two facts, your hands traveled up the body you were hugging until you found shoulders. Turning your head up, your eyes followed the path your hands had just taken. This series of events lead to the obvious fact that whomever you were hugging was absolutely not Penelope Garcia. Penelope was in fact not even in the foyer, but rather a very attractive, tall man with slightly curly brown hair and eyes like honey was staring back at you. And you couldn’t take your eyes off him.
--
Reid’s POV
Spencer hadn’t actually had anything to drink since arriving at Garcia’s. No, he just drank prior to that point. Normally, he didn’t drink at all when his team got together, but this was just worth celebrating. Another serial killer was behind bars for life because of the work the team did today. Hell, even Hotch and Rossi stayed for a few hours before they left. As part of the “young crowd” on the team, he had stayed at the bar longer than the two older men before the group of you retreated to Garcia’s. Hers was the closest apartment, and everyone else wanted to keep the party going. Spencer couldn’t help but join them, not wanting to return to his empty apartment after the long day they all spent testifying.
Finishing his second glass of water, he began to get up to get more and maybe some for the group when everyone heard the knocking. The group laughed as three consecutive “Penny’s” came from the door. “Reid, can you get that since you’re already up?” Garcia asked, motioning toward the door. “It must be Y/N. She always calls me Penny when she’s drunk.” He obliged. He obviously remembered Garcia mentioning Y/N before, but he had never met her. He swung the door open, expecting a drunk friend of Garcia’s. He was not prepared, however, for said drunk friend to throw herself at him, grasp him in an alarmingly tight hug, and start sobbing. He could barely make out what you were saying through the sobs hearing “surprise Drew”, “anniversary”, “sex”, and “drunk” before you practically screamed “I even went out and bought this stupid, uncomfortable underwear to surprise him.”
It was clear you meant to be pouring her heart out to Garcia, but you hadn’t yet realized who answered the door. For the first time in his life, Dr. Spencer Reid couldn’t think of words to say as you ran your hands up his body to his shoulders. You were clearly taking in the information required to come to the conclusion that he is not in fact Penelope Garcia. As your eyes met his, all he could do was stare. He made every effort to keep his eyes level with yours, but one glace was all it took to be ingrained in his memory forever. He wouldn’t have looked, but the movement of your coat caught his eye as it revealed the exact type of surprise you had planned for whoever Drew was.
The two of you were frozen, unsure of how to proceed. You looked just like he did- a deer in the headlights. Neither of you could move. Neither of you could speak. You could both hear Garcia’s voice as she stumbled down the hallway, but it sounded distant. It wasn’t until the mystery woman broke eye contact that he backed away. Trying desperately to control the blush he were sure had made its way to his cheeks.
--
Y/N’s POV
The moment was broken as you felt Penny turn you towards her. The flush on your cheeks only grew as you kept your eyes on the tall man as he retreated into the living room, not having said a word. “Y/N… Y/N? Y/N!” Penny had to yell slightly to get your attention. “What happened? What are you doing here? I thought you were celebrating tonight?” She asked rapid fire. You could tell she was also a little bit drunk.
You told her everything. The words practically falling out of you as you started crying again. “Oh babe, I’m so sorry. Here, let’s get you inside.” Penny started to guide you into the living room, but you froze “Wait! Can I borrow some clothes before I go in there? I don’t need to flash anyone else right now.” You whispered. Penny laughed, “Of course! Who did you fla- ohhh. Reid.” She said, trying to hold back the giggles.
“Yes. If that is the very tall man with the perfect eyes and the completely tuggable hair.” You responded, not quite filtering your thoughts, as you were still very drunk.
“I’ll be back in a jiffy!” Penny replied, not knowing how else to respond to the fact that you are very clearly attracted to the young doctor, but also going through shit right now. She would just file away this information for later.

Hooked
I cannot stop thinking about!!! Tendou in the desert. Mainly because I went for a walk and found a bunch of creepy stuff, and Tendou would fit right into the creepy-desert-aesthetic. (also..... he’d be the type to have a meth trailer out in the middle of nowhere lol)
(What to expect - bad writing, a dead body, Tendou being weird. No NSFW)
He’s just absolutely batshit crazy. There’s no explanation for his actions.
Like you go for a walk in the mountains, intent on seeing a beautiful, iconic desert sunset, skies dyed pink, purple, orange and red.
It gets dark faster than you anticipated though, and you’re left trying to stumble back to your car in the pitch black night, temperature quickly dropping.
And of course, you aren’t prepared at all. It’s the desert, it isn’t supposed to get cold. So you’re shivering, freezing, skin going numb, starting to feel a bit sluggish as you wonder how the fuck it’s so fucking cold.
There’s a light off in the distance, maybe your car? Had you left the light on?
Stumbling closer, tripping over rocks and trying to avoid cactus, you try to focus on the light, on the outline. It almost looks too high to be your car.
Then you hit the dirt, foot twisting over a rock, causing you to crash onto your side, landing your hip directly onto a cactus. You screech at the stinging pain that stabs into your hip, the side of your butt, your outer thigh.
It hurts to stand up, and you can’t even assess the damage done, because it’s dark and as soon as you try to feel your hip, sharp spines make you cry out, pulling your hand back.
All that’s left for you to do is cry as you make your way towards the light, hoping, praying it’s your car.
As you limp closer, tears dripping down your face at the pain of the cactus spines, the cold, your now-sore ankle, you quickly discern that the light’s source comes from a house.
Specifically, a trailer.
There’s junk everywhere, piles of it, and you trip over a few stray.... well, you can’t really make out what it is, with how dark it is. But you make it to the door.
And yeah, this is super creepy. You’re out in the middle of nowhere, it’s dark, with no flashlight, no jacket. You’re vulnerable, but you’re so freaking cold, and you think there’s blood on your leg from where you’ve been stabbed with the cactus spines.
You need help.
So you gather up the courage, pray that there’s someone home, that it’s not a serial killer, and knock on the door of the trailer.
There’s a loud thump, high pitched, muffled cursing, then some shuffling. The clicking of locks on the door, and then it swings open, revealing a man holding a shotgun.
Well fuck.
He’s lanky, thin and wirey, wild red hair tangled on top of his head. Large, hooded eyes squint at you sleepily, before the man cocks his head.
“You lost?”
“Uhm, yeah..... hi.” You sniffle out, and the man’s eyes visibly widen as he realizes you’re crying, in nothing but a short sleeve shirt and a pair of pants, standing out in the cold.
The inside of the trailer is warm, and it makes your cheeks, ears, and frozen hands tingle as feeling begins returning to them. How had it gotten so cold in the fucking desert?
The man introduces himself as Tendou Satori, deputy of Shiratorizawa county. He’s not lying to you either, has the badge, the uniform - it even explains the shotgun.
He clicks his tongue when you limp inside, as light falls upon your hip and shows your jeans darkened with blood. Tells you to warm up first, sit in front of the heater vent, then he’ll help you with the cactus.
“What’re you doing way out here? City’s kinda far.”
“I was gonna watch the sunset, take pictures ‘n stuff.” You offered, wrapping the blanket he had provided more firmly around yourself. His gaze makes you uncomfortable, and you’re not sure why. It’s not like he’s going to do anything bad, he’s a police deputy.
His eyes are so flat though, still hooded even though he’s very much awake. Maybe that’s just the way he looks, but it’s a bit creepy.
“Didn’t think it’d get dark as fast as it did? Is that why you were wanderin’ around out there?”
You nodded. “Didn’t know it could get so cold either.”
Tendou chuckles, high pitched, and you wince. He sounds like a creepy funhouse clown when he laughs like that. “Ehehe, lots of people get caught off guard by desert weather. Think it’s hot all the time, can’t even imagine that it gets a bit chilly. You’re lucky I’m posted up here, otherwise you’d be a popsicle by morning!”
He was so nonchalant about the idea of you freezing to death, you didn’t know how to respond.
Luckily, you had warmed up enough to stop shaking, teeth no longer clattering together. Tendou told you to stay put while he got supplies to fix up “Your little owie!”
It was much more than a ‘little’ wound.
The trailer was filled with thick awkwardness as Tendou asked you to peel off your pants so he could get to the spines embedded in your skin. He didn’t seem to understand that you felt a little embarrassed, didn’t even turn his back as you slowly pushed them to your ankles, wincing as they dragged over your bloodied hip.
“Ok-ay! Now, this’ll hurt, so try not to scream a whole bunch, right?”
And then he was digging in with tweezers, delicately extracting cactus spines from your puffy, swollen hip, the side of your butt, your outer thigh.
It hurt, badly, and you started crying again, much to your embarrassment. Tendou didn’t seem to mind, kept his eyes fixed on your bloody leg as he quickly tended to it.
“I’ll be done soon, don’t worry. You’ll have to hydrate a bunch after I’m done though.”
“Why does it hurt so much? Are they poisonous?” You yelped as the man tugged on a particularly painful spine, furrowing his brows in concentration as he pulled it out.
“Oh! It’s cause they’re like little meat hooks.” He looked up at you, smiling, holding his most recent extraction with his tweezers so you could see. “They get pretty attached once they get in you, hehe, but I’ll make you better.”
Forty minutes later had Tendou finishing up, finally deeming you cactus-free after a thorough inspection. He had plucked out the large spines with tweezers, before running his hand over your skin, stilling you when you flinched, explaining that he was feeling for the small needles.
You felt insanely uncomfortable, with his hands and face that close to such an intimate area.
“All do-ne!” The man sang, straightening his back, giving you a gleaming smile. His lips stretched too far over his teeth. “Now, I’ll get you some pants, and some water. You want to sleep in the bed with me? Or on the couch?”
What?
The panicked confusion must be evident on your face, because Tendou cackled, standing up, towering over you.
“Can’t go back out there, you wanna die? Gotta stay until mornin’.”
“The couch please.” The choice was easy, and Tendou nodded, before disappearing through a doorway into a dark room, coming back with an armful of blankets. He tossed a pair of pajama pants at you from the pile, but you hesitated in putting them on.
“Um.... Mr.? Can I have something to wipe off the blood?” It was crusted on your leg, dried and dark brown now.
Tendou turned from making up the couch, blinked at you slowly, looked at your leg. “Guess I should do that!”
You had to wait a bit longer, until he had arranged the couch to his liking, before the strange man fetched a wet washcloth to wipe off your leg with.
It was warm, and he was thorough as he sponged off the blood. The way he licked his lips while doing so made you feel a bit uneasy.
When you were finally clean, you tugged on your new pants quickly, finally feeling a bit more comfortable now that you were no longer exposed.
“Wanna eat before you go to bed? I have-” Tendou bent to shuffle through his fridge. “-Oh! I have applesauce! and crackers! Yum Yum!” Both items were held aloft triumphantly.
Who kept crackers in the fridge?
You just wanted to go to sleep.
“I’m good, thank you though.”
“Okay, beddy-bye time then I guess.” Why did he talk so childishly?
You tried to relax as he turned out the lights, bidding you good night as he shuffled back through the doorway, apparently into his bedroom.
Tomorrow you’d find your car, and everything would be fine.
-----
Tendou was sitting on the couch when you woke up, your bare feet in his lap.
“Good morning~!” His voice was so loud, you were wincing at the volume, at the sunlight streaming through the dingy curtains, at your first good look at his trailer - he’d kept it dark last night, only turning on one light.
It was clean, well, as clean as a trailer could be. Nothing suspicious or worrisome.
“Aren’t you going to say it back?” The man questioned, suddenly leaning far too close, his hand sliding up your calf.
“Oh-uhm-” You stuttered, blushing at the proximity, the foreign touch. “I should go find my car...”
Tendou rolled his eyes, backing off quickly. “Too boring. Also too far. It’ll hurt to walk, you won’t be able to make it.”
You raised an eyebrow, immediately testing out his claim, hissing in pain as soon as you moved your leg.
Apparently, it was swollen and sore.
He was right, walking hurt, and you barely hobbled to the little bathroom without Tendou’s assistance. Maybe he could go find your car and bring it here? It had to be close by, you hadn’t been walking for that long last night...
“So!” Tendou clapped his hands, and you started, almost bumping into him as he stood, leaning over you on the couch. “Tell me about yourself, it’s been so long since I’ve had anyone over. You have a boyfriend? Girlfriend? Where’s your family? I’ve always wanted someone to keep me company here.”
“Woah, wait, what?”
Tendou chuckled, shaking his head. “You’re going to stay here with me now! I think we should get to know each other a bit, don’t you?”
Staying with him? Here? What was going on?
“Um, Mr.-”
“Tendou... or Satori, your choice.” The man interjected, before moving to flop down next to you on the couch.
“Tendou-” You continued. “-I can’t stay here. I need to find my car, and drive back to the city, back to my home. My roommate will be worried...”
“Home is here.” His tone was so matter-of-fact, it shocked you silent.
“You had a roommate though? How fun!!” He chirped, and you didn’t miss the emphasis on “had”. “You ever have sex with them?”
Tendou had moved in a second, pressed to your side, his face too close to yours, and you panicked.
“I gotta go. Really, I’m sorry, thank you for helping me out last night but I need to get going-” You were on your feet, ignoring the pain lancing through your leg as you hobbled quickly to the door, throwing it open.
A hand tugged on your shirt, pulling you off balance and forcing you to step backwards.
“You’re leaving? But I did so much for you, you haven’t even paid me back...”
His grip on your shirt was firm, but you wriggled and writhed until he was forced to let go. “I-I promise I’ll pay you when I get to my car. My wallet’s there, you can have everything in it-”
You pushed forward, through the door, barely dodging Tendou’s grabby hands. This wasn’t right, there was something off about him, you needed to get away.
“I don’t want you to go.” But you weren’t listening to his suddenly deep, serious voice. Instead, you were frantically looking around, trying to figure out which way you had come from last night.
There was nothing but cactus, rocks, and dirt.
“I was wishing for company the other day, y’know? It gets so lonely here, the sheriff isn’t a good conversationalist.”
The sheriff?
You whirled around, Tendou standing in the door, looking off to the side. You followed his gaze, saw the lawn chair, the upturned bucket next to it, two empty bottles of beer. There were more bottles littering the ground.... there was another lawn chair-
-and the fully-dressed body of a sheriff, half-decayed, sat in it.
You didn’t even think to scream; who would hear you out here? All you did was run, adrenaline roaring through your veins and letting you forget about your wounded leg.
“Wait!” Tendou called after you gleefully, bouncing out of the doorway. “You’re hurting his feelings! Ahehehe!!”
The man was deranged.
And you very quickly realized that there was no where to run.
Nowhere to hide.
-----
You couldn’t see your car, or anything that looked familiar. The only sounds in the air was the panting of your own breath, your feet thudding slowly underneath you as your initial shock wore off, as the adrenaline left you, as the pain returned.
It had only been a few minutes since you took off, speeding away from the unhinged madman. You were left wondering if he was really the deputy - maybe he’d killed the deputy, stolen his uniform.
Then you wondered why there was a dead sheriff in his yard. Had no one come looking for him? Where was the sheriff’s car? What was even going on?
It’s warm, the sun beginning to beat down on you relentlessly, and you curse the desert. Curse it’s unbearable heat during the day, it’s frigid temperatures at night.
“Pretty girl!!! I found you~!” Tendou’s shrill voice had you jerking your head around, frantically trying to see where the man was. Had he been following you? Where was he, there was nothing he could hide behind!
“You want to go for a ride in my fancy car? Is that it? I’ll take you to dinner, then we’ll kiss under the moon!” The man cackled, and you determined that the voice was coming from your left.
But... there was nothing there?
Tentative, painful steps forward, towards his voice. Where was he? If you couldn’t see him, you couldn’t fight him. You needed to know where the creep was.
A careful step.
A careful step.
A careful st-
A terrified scream tore from your lungs as your foot seemingly plunged into thin air, immediately landing you on your butt as you slide down a steep incline.
It was a ravine.
You tumbled down into it’s depths, getting scraped by rocks and brush. Luckily, you slammed into something solid, metal, and it stopped your tumultuous motion.
Gaining your bearings, you stared hard at the door of the police car you’d just collided with, before a hand popped out of the window, waving at you.
“Beep beep!” Tendou snickered, his flat eyes taking in your disheveled appearance. “Let’s mess around, I’ve heard doing it in a car is fun.”
There’s no one around to hear you scream.

22. basorexia - the overwhelming desire to kiss.
pairing: revali x reader summary: revali spirits you away to enjoy the new years eve festivities.
In the darkness of your room, you awoke to the sound of a soft tapping on your window. Twisting in the mess of blankets and pillows, you pushed aside the papers and textbooks that had accumulated at the foot of the bed, noticing only then that the candle at your desk had long since extinguished.
Head pounding, you rubbed at your tired eyes, feeling heavy. How long had you been asleep?
The tapping grew more insistent, forcing you to get up. Grumbling, you allowed yourself a second to stretch, ignoring how your room felt like water sloshing in a glass.
"Yeah, yeah. Hold on!" You said, hobbling to the window. Brushing the mess of hair from your eyes, you pulled the curtains away and roughly pushed it open.
The culprit hovered outside, eyes bright and smug. Revali looked very much at home though he was floating at a dizzying distance away from the ground. In the sleepy haze, he looked like a painting of some myth you had read before, with the late night sky as his backdrop and the outline of your window as his frame.
"Took you long enough."
"Apologies. I thought some tree branches were hitting the glass."
The Rito made a show of turning in the air. "Funny, I don't see any nearby trees."
"I know," you sighed, disappointed.
Revali rolled his eyes and poked his head through the window, feathers brushing past your cheek as he ignored your personal space in favour of scoping out your room. The stiff turn of his neck as he looked around reminded you of the curious and confused little birds that landed on the sill from time to time.
"Quite a dreary home you have here." Gesturing to the overall darkness, he pointed to your stack of scattered papers. "You shouldn't study without proper lighting, it's bad for your eyes."
"I was asleep."
"Why, I'm surprised. And here I thought you were one of the festive many who choose to stay awake at an ungodly hour in order to count down the remaining seconds of the year."
"Well," you shrugged, not wanting to meet his eyes. "Not like it's anything special. New year, same shit. What difference would a countdown do?"
Biting down on your tongue, you stopped yourself from saying anymore. The cold breeze sifted past the light shirt you were wearing, making you shiver.
He was right, normally you were one of those people who stayed up, excitedly watching the hands of the clocktower tick til they reached midnight. You enjoyed the energy of being in a collective crowd, waiting with bated breath for the first inhale and exhale you would take into the brand new year.
The final month on the Hylian calendar brought a sense of relief and a hope for new beginnings. Usually today of all days you were at your happiest, jumping at the prospect of celebrating along with the rest of the kingdom and yet…
That sinking weight clawed at your chest again, forcing you to clamp down on it once more.
You grimaced. There it was; that bitter feeling. Hylia. How annoying. It twisted in your brain like an angry snake, pulling down your mood and enthusiasm along with it.
Last year you wanted to cheer and dance until the morning light. Now all you felt like was staring at the wall. Or falling asleep.
You blinked, turning back to the window to see Revali patiently waiting for you to continue. Feeling your face warm, you hustled your brain to get a move on. A coherent thought would be great right about…now!
"Hey have you ever wondered why they don't grow trees on this side of the castle? It's not fair the more expensive quarters get all the pretty greenery. I mean, non-noble guests still need that sweet oxygen everyone keeps raving about, you get me?" Shut up brain, that's enough. I said a coherent thought. C o h e r e n t.
Stars in his wings, Revali shook his head but answered anyway. "I agree, it's hardly fair. Also go change into something warm, we need to get you outside."
"What? Why?"
Something in the Rito's expression clued you in to the fact that he wasn't in the mood to play stupid. You've been sitting in the dark for the past few days and it didn't take a private investigator to know it was playing tricks with your head. "Fine, but when I say we go back--we go back, got it?"
He huffed, turning around to give you some privacy. "I promise on my honour."
The brightly lit lanterns of the town square made you squint as you shuffled closer to your guide, the sound of the city loud in your ears.
Though less prominent, the twisting feeling in your gut continued, making you more hyper-alert than usual to the world around you. Adjusting the sleeves of your coat, you followed Revali past the streets, the Rito expertly navigating through the sea of people.
Somewhere along the way he had taken your hand, and you told yourself it was a good way for you both to stick together. Wouldn't want you getting lost and spending the final minutes of the year playing an elaborate game of hide and seek after all. He was a great friend like that. Nevermind that everytime you would hold his wing a little tighter to remind yourself that he was there, he would always squeeze back.
You needed a distraction.
Just focus on everything that's not him.
The night was alive with the sound of music. It didn't matter if you partied with an alcoholic drink in hand, or a glass of milk, everyone in Hyrule was filled with an addictive buzz that came with an event that only happened once a year. Vendors with bright smiles called out from their stalls, the smell of freshly baked sweets or the sizzle of a barbecue beckoning you to take a closer look. To your left, a group of friends raised their hands in the air, loudly welcoming a Goron that had turned up late but regardless had finally arrived.
The archer followed your line of sight, guessing the question bouncing in your head. "Daruk is in Eldin, probably rattling Death Mountain with that story again about the Moblin camp and the barrel of explosives."
"I love that story."
"Of course you would."
"Sorry about your feathers though."
"Whatever, they grew back."
"How about the one's on your--"
"Anyway," he interjected quickly, playfully nudging you to the side and glowering at your laughter. "We've been told to 'take a break'. The other Champions have chosen to spend this day with their families and loved ones. We are planning to regroup and continue preparations in the days following."
"How about you?"
"I already said it."
Your cheeks coloured at the implications of his words, mind replaying the previous sentence. Families and loved ones. Families and loved ones. He didn't even hesitate. You both were not related. So that left you with...
"Woah!" Digging your heels into the dirt, you abruptly paused your brisk walk and saved yourself from colliding with the archer's back.
Stopping at one of the stalls, Revali held two fingers up. You glanced up at him questioningly but he refused to give anything away, expression relaxed. The vendor returned quickly, the Rito thanking them quietly and placing the payment on the bright yellow table cloth along with a large tip in their jar.
He turned around, dropping a square shaped pastry into your hands. It was some kind of rice cake, with a fluffy exterior and a golden baked surface that smelled of butter and felt warm like the sun.
Taking a bite, you smiled at the hints of coconut that were hidden in its sweet flavour. The sticky treat was familiar somehow. "Is this so luck sticks to you in the new year?"
Revali scoffed, though failed to hide his own smile behind the cake held in his wing. "You said the same thing when we first met. You need new material."
"Says the baron of bird puns."
"I am the king." He punctuated the statement by biting into his own rice cake. Offering his wing, he gently took your hand once more, turning back to step again into the busy promenade.
Following him, you noticed that the crowds ever so slowly began to thin. A lantern lit hill was coming up. The grassy expanse was dotted with a few people, though it was blessingly not as populous as the town square. "I should be the one that's surprised. Thought you hated crowds unless their attentions were all on you."
"It's tolerable so long as I am with good company."
The both of you walked up the hill with an unspoken agreement to make it to the top. Taking a seat on the grass, you allowed yourself to breathe, chest heaving from the small burst of exercise after days of being sedentary.
The twinkling lights of Castle Town stretched out before you. Gazing at it, you could imagine all the untold stories hidden in the glowing little pockets of the alleys and in the hushed whispers behind closed doors. Funny how in a city so full of people, one can feel so alone.
Revali was the first to speak, breaking you from your thoughts. "I think I can understand now. Looking at it from this distance, it really can feel like nothing much has changed."
You continued to stare at the lights, trying to focus on a certain string in an attempt to ground yourself. "Yeah. Sometimes it feels like though the world continues to spin, I'm remaining completely still. Just stagnant."
Frowning, you ran your hands through the grass, feeling the dirt shift under your fingers. You could feel your frustrations building, bubbling up to the surface with no way of dragging them back down.
"And the challenges just get worse every year. How am I going to face those old problems and these new ones if I'm still the same lost person I was back then?"
Your voice echoed at the last sentence, making you hide your head in embarrassment. That was loud.
Some strangers relaxing on the hill turned around to flash you an annoyed glare, before quickly returning to their picnics after spotting the Great Eagle Bow on your friend's back.
"I'm so sorry." You wanted more than anything then to dig a hole and hibernate preferrably for the next hundred years or so. "I'm yelling, that isn't like me. I'm so so--"
"There's nothing to be sorry about. You needed to say it." He glanced at you from the corner of his eye. There was a serious element to it that made it a little hard to breathe. "There is one part of that I don't agree with, however."
"What is it?"
"That entire section about you, how did you put it, stagnanting." He twisted a wing in the air, thinking on his words before pointing a feather directly at your face. "You're fully capable of enacting the change you want to see in yourself."
You felt a little dizzy now. But another kind of dizzy, one very different from the vertigo you felt waking up in the darkness of your room.
"And who said you were exactly the same as you were back then? You've changed. In a good way. You're stronger and more capable of things I'm sure the person you were two years ago or even less couldn't even fathom doing."
Turning to face you, Revali gave you his full attention, compelling you to do the same as the cadence of his speech joined the steady rhythm of your own beating heart. From the back of your mind, you could barely register the sound of people gathering together, their voices floating into the cold night air.
'Ten!'
"It's difficult to see your own progress from a distance."
'Nine!'
"So take my advice and start looking at yourself up close for once."
'Eight!'
He had that expression on his face, one that said he was thinking too hard about something. It was like watching him try to pull the planets together with just a piece of string. His brows were furrowed so deep that your fingers wished to run over his feathers and smoothe the worried creases.
'Seven!'
You slowly reached out to him, giving him enough time to back away. Revali stilled as your hands traced up the nape of his neck, leaning in as his pulse thrummed underneath the soft pads of your fingertips.
'Six!'
He opened his beak the moment you reached his face. You paused, half expecting him to tell you to let go and pretend like it never happened.
Instead, he called out your name.
'Five!'
He said your name again, though quieter now. It was enough to tug at the invisible force drawing you two together. Enough so that the polite distance nervously enforced by the both of you gradually began to dissipate, trailing away like a ribbon of smoke as you both leaned in closer.
'Four!'
"May I--," He cleared his throat, eyes darting away for a second before they were back on you again. Bright green in the lantern light. Emeralds in the desert sand.
'Three!'
"May I kiss you?"
"Yes."
'Two!'
"Your way or mine?" You couldn't help but joke. Revali smiled, exhaling a soft joyful laugh before pressing his forehead to yours.
'One!'
'Happy New Year!'
An earth-shaking boom rattled your ears, but all you could think of in that moment was Revali and the feel of his feathers against your skin; the utter elation of being so close to someone you deeply cared for and that cared just as deeply for you.
In the dazzling light you lifted your head from his, both your eyes meeting for a brief moment. Hands moving, you gently angled his face with a steady hand, feeling then the soft, butterfly light brush of his wings on your waist.
Closing your eyes again, you leaned in to press your lips against his beak, the blush on your face warmer than any fever or furnace. The Rito's soft sigh was barely audible as you trailed your kisses upwards, stopping at the red circle on his cheek.
Revali laughed again as you turned his face to press a kiss to the identical red mark on the other side. "You're very thorough."
"You deserve it." You beamed. "And this is just the beginning, just you wait at the end of the countdown I'll--"
"Actually my dear," he grinned, pointing to the sky.
"Huh?"
Above you were the vibrant colours of the firework display. It was beautiful and awe-inspiring, but a confirmation that you were definitely minutes in to the new year.
"Oh," you said, before shaking your head with a smile. "It's fine, we got 12 more months to prepare ourselves for the next one."
Revali nodded, pulling you closer so he could press your foreheads together again.
"Indeed," he grinned. "Now will you finish your sentence? What exactly were you going to do at the end of the countdown?"
fin.

——
“would you teach me how to suck a dick if I gave you 20 bucks?” you blurted out, your face already feeling hot as you stood at the kitchen counter with your best friend, lee donghyuck. he immediately froze, his hands completely ceasing as he slowly lowers the knife he was using to spread cream cheese on his bagel. you bit your lip anxiously, taking a small step back when his head ever so slowly turned in your direction, his eyes meeting your gaze.
“you–I–what??” he questioned exasperated, a dusty pink hue gracing his cheeks as his eyes practically bulged out of their sockets. you both stared at each other, his mouth agape as you tried to calm your racing heart enough so that you could speak.
“look, I’ve never sucked a dick before and I want to learn—“
“you want to suck my dick?” he cut you off, dropping the knife onto the counter with a loud clatter. he looked at you like you were insane, which didn’t help your already unconfident demeanor. you sighed, your hand going up to pinch the bridge of your nose in frustration.
“No–well yes, I guess.” you pondered over the idea, “I just want to learn in case future adventures with dudes come into play!” you tried to explain, your arms now wildly gesticulating in the air giving away how nervous you actually were. that, and how your voice was coming out extra pitchy and how your words jumbled together as you spoke too quickly gave him insight into how you actually felt in the moment.
he stepped a little closer to you, his eyes narrowing and looking at you up and down in a scrutinizing way. you gulped as he watched you, your hands wringing together. he hummed deeply, the noise coming from within his chest making your legs instinctively squeeze together. you cursed yourself in that moment, screaming at yourself internally for finding your best friend attractive.
“so you’ve really never given anyone a blowjob?” hyuck asked, his head tilting to the side causing his hair to fall over his eyes. “that’s kinda surprising.”
your eyes widened, your cheeks on fire as your jaw dropped to the floor. “I mean,” he continued, his hand coming up to press his thumb against your bottom lip, trailing it across the flesh as you screamed internally. “you’re so pretty, I assumed guys were just dying to shove their cocks down your throat.” he chuckled to himself at the way you were reacting, taking pride in how much you were affected by the smallest touches.
you stood there shocked for a second, allowing his touch to poison your mind. after a minute you finally snapped yourself out of it, shoving his arm away from you and then pushing his shoulders back in anger.
“stop fucking with me, lee donghyuck.” you seethed, embarrassed and agitated. “just say no if you don’t want to.” you rolled your eyes at him and made your way to step around him to leave and hide in your room, but before you could get far his hand caught your waist and pulled you back.
“I’m not saying no,” he murmured lowly, his arms wrapping fully around you and pulling your back to rest up against his front. “it’s not everyday that my beautiful best friend offers to suck me off.”
your hand clutched his forearm shakily as he whispered in your ear, his words barely registering in your brain. nerves were flowing through your veins, causing your fingers to feel cold and your bones to chill. you didn’t reply, as you didn’t trust you voice to come out as steady as you would like. he obviously caught on to your nervousness, laughing lowly in your ear.
“what happened to all that confidence you had, y/n?” he teased, kissing the skin right below your ear. “is a couple of lewd words all it takes to get you flustered?”
you sputtered at his words, failing to find the right things to say in reply. what were you even supposed to say to that anyway? if you lied and told him no, he would definitely call your bluff, as it was pretty obvious how much you were affected. if you told him yes, you would probably feel further embarrassed and just want to dive down into a deep hole and never come back out.
you stared blankly down at the floor below you, your lip trembling as you let your tongue out to trail across them. hyuck suddenly let go of you, moving away and walking out of the kitchen to situate himself on the sofa located in the living room. you absentmindedly followed him, your feet shuffling slowly to a stop as you watched him from the doorway. he sat down heavily, spreading his long legs wide. the gray sweatpants he wore had you practically drooling, and you brought a hand up to your lips just to make sure you weren’t.
he turned his head to look at you, hid eyes hooded and he lazily pointed to the spot on the floor between his legs.
“come here.” he demanded, the deep tone of his voice causing your knees to weaken. you hobbled over to him on shaky legs, reaching your destination and lowering yourself to your knees between his thighs. he watched your every move like a predator, a look you have never seen in the years you have been friends with donghyuck. you shivered, a tingly pleasurable feeling running up your spine caused by his hungry and wandering eyes.
when your knees finally touched the carpeted floor, hyuck leaned forward, his fingers gently capturing your chin and forcing you to look at him. his eyes bore into yours before you watched them trail down your face to settle on your slightly parted lips. you watched him with doe eyes, looking innocent while in such a compromised position.
“Are you absolutely sure you wanna do this, y/n?” he asked you sincerely, his eyes never leaving your lips. you only nodded before breaking out of his hold, leaning up to grip the band of his sweatpants. he allowed you to pull them down and off of him, his body leaning back and his hips lifting up to make it easier for you.
you were surprised to see that he had no boxers on, the heat inside you ever growing at the sight of his pretty cock. he smirked down at you, his hand reaching down to stroke himself for you.
“w-wait, I wanna do it,” you stuttered, your hands moving to slap his own away. he hummed at you, watching as your fingers wrapped around him and began shyly working him up and down. hyuck cursed at the feeling of your warm hand around him, causing your confidence to build. you rubbed him a little faster, your grip growing a little tighter as you went on, his low groans spurring you on.
in no time at all he was completely hard, his cock standing proud in your hold. your mouth watered at the sight, and you wanted to dive in as soon as possible. you licked your lips anxiously, looking up at him for further instructions. he smiled down at you, his hand coming to rest on the top of your head. “Relax” he murmured, “just put your mouth on it and go with the flow.”
“wow hyuck, you’re such a great teacher.” you commented sarcastically, rolling your eyes. you weren’t expecting his hand to move down to lightly slap your cheek, and you squeaked at the suddenness of it.
“better check that attitude, baby,” his hand went back to your head, this time guiding you toward his dick with slight force. “you asked for this, remember?” you let your lips brush against his head, trying to think of everything you’ve read about blowjobs in the past. “I never said i was a good teacher.” after that comment he finally shut up, allowing you to collect your thoughts and press soft kisses up and down his length.
you didn’t tease for too long, recalling something you read about some people not liking it very much, and finally started suckling on the head of his cock. his head fell back against the couch, his hair splaying out every which way beautifully behind him.
you looked up at him, his eyes hooded as they peered down at you, your mouth finally opening to take in his cock, carefully, you made sure not to use your teeth, and you took as much as you could into your mouth, only stopping when your throat protested. your throat constricted slightly and his hips bucked into your mouth, causing his cockhead to ram itself down your throat and you gagged violently. you pulled back a little, tears springing to your eyes as your throat burned, your sputtering causing hyuck to pull you off of him completely.
‘fuck, I’m sorry baby, I’m sorry,” he spoke softly, his thumb coming up to wipe your stray tears away. you tried to ignore the name he called you, but you felt your heart jump not matter how hard you tried to will it not to. drool was already running down your chin and you were sure you looked pathetic sitting there on your knees in front of him, not being able to take his cock. “are you okay?”
you nodded, just then noticing the sudden ache in your core. it wasn’t there until he rammed his cock into your throat, which made you slightly nervous at the insinuation that you enjoyed choking on him.
he gently stroked your cheek, watching you carefully as you got your breathing back to normal. determined, you fixed your posture and pushed his hand off your face, moving to take his dick into your mouth once again. he didn’t stop you, allowing you to take him into your throat. you made sure you relaxed your muscles this time, breathing evenly through your nose as you began to bob your head. you felt the sudden presence of both of his hands finding your head, lightly caressing you as you blew him. from the sounds you could hear coming from deep within his chest, you could infer that you were doing a pretty good job so far.
“oh god, so good baby,” he moaned out, spurring you on to go a little faster and take him a litter deeper. “fuck! are you sure you’ve never done this before?” he questioned, his voice coming out breathy as he whined in pleasure. you just kept looking at him, your eyes glassy with tears as you forced him down your throat, being careful not to gag around the thickness of him.
he kept whining, his voice raising a few octaves when you experimentally kneaded his balls, and before you could go any further he shoved your head away, his cock falling from your mouth and causing a mess of spit to spill past your lips. looking up at him with a curious look, you wiped your mouth with the back of you hand.
“what the hell? I wanna make you cum!” you whined, embarrassed at the sound of your own confession. he was breathing heavily, his cock angry and flushed red, desperate to cum.
“I wanna taste you first,” he blurted, his hands already reaching to grip your arms and pull you up off of your knees. he shifted so that you could lay on your back on the cushions, and he pushed you down almost aggressively. you yelped, but didn’t fight him as he laid you down the way he wanted to. “...please?”
and how could you say no to him when he asked so very nicely? you let a small “okay” slip out of your mouth, your arms coming up to cover your face as he worked on getting your shorts and panties off. you peeked to see that he was now completely naked, his shirt discarded somewhere across the room.
donghyuck spread you thighs apart and was pleasantly surprised to see how wet you were already, smirking to himself at how much you were affected when you were sucking his cock. you whimpered embarrassingly as he stared at your soaked pussy, hunger present in his eyes as he licked his lips. he hands pinned your thighs down as he dove in earnestly, not wasting any time.
his tongue dipped into your hole before licking a stripe up your slit, brushing along your clit and causing your stomach muscles to spasm. he worked your clit with his mouth, licking and sucking like it was his job.
you squirmed in his hold, your little noises of pleasure reaching his ears and egging him on, determined to make you cum as hard as you could.
your hands flew to his long light brown locks, fisting them and tugging when he nipped your sensitive bud. he groaned at the painful pleasure caused by your pulling, his cock twitching in response. you were biting your lip, definitely causing permanent indentations with how hard you were holding it between your teeth. you couldn’t hold back your sounds, loud moans filling the air as his ministrations brought you closer and closer to release. you never thought about it before, but you never would have guessed hyuck was this good at eating pussy.
he slowly inserted two fingers into your core, causing your walls to experimentally clench. you practically yelled out at the added sensation of being filled, your sounds turning into pleas.
“please hyuck,” you whimpered, pulling his hair to lift his head to look at you, his eyes finding yours while his tongue laid flat on your clit. “please fuck me, please,” you were almost crying at this point, desperately wanting to be filled by the same cock you had been blowing not too long ago. you felt pitiful, begging to be fucked liked this by your best friend, but you were too far gone to stop now, and in too deep to care.
within seconds he sped up his fingers, sucking even harder on your clit as you thrashed below him. you couldn’t even collect yourself before your orgasm hit, rippling in waves as you clenched around his sopping fingers. he continued to eat you out as you rode your orgasm, only stopping when you tugged on his hair again.
he pulled his head back, his fingers slipping out of you. he brought said fingers to his mouth, lewdly sucking your juices off of them as he maintained eye contact with you.
“get up,” he demanded, pulling your body from the couch and helping you gain your balance on your noticeably trembling legs. you whined, your brain still foggy from the orgasm he gave you with his mouth. he softly shushed you, helping you to the end of the couch before he pressed you down to bend over the arm of it. you yelped in surprise, but nonetheless let your body become pliant as he positioned your body the way he wanted.
“It's okay baby,” he mouthed against the back of your neck, his chest hovering over your back now. “ i'm gonna give you my cock.” he spoke softly, running his hands up and down your sides in an attempt to calm you as you squirmed aimlessly, desperate for him to fill you up.
you absentmindedly wigged your hips against him, your behind brushing against his extremely hard and dripping cock. he groaned at the friction, sinking his teeth ever so slightly into your skin. he pulled himself up, and before you could complain at the loss of his warmth, you felt his hand come down on your ass. you squealed and heard him laugh as he kneaded the flesh, soothing the pain.
“you want it so bad, don't you, y/n?” they way he said your name was sinful, and the most you could do was frantically nod and whine out several slurred versions of the word ‘yes’. he didn’t make you wait much longer, and you sighed happily once you felt the blunt head of his cock push and pull through your folds, effectively being covered in your excessive wetness.
he swiftly entered you, giving you absolutely no time to get accustomed to his size before he started drilling into you, his hips slapping obscenely against your ass with each harsh thrust. your voice cried out gutterly with each movement he made, your throat feeling raw from the way you were screaming. your walls were sensitive from your previous orgasm, which made the scrape of his dick against them painfully pleasurable. It was almost too much, but you took every inch of him like a good girl just like he wanted.
his hands were gripping your hips, pulling your body back onto his cock with every drive of it inside you. the blunt edges of his nails were piercing your skin, for sure causing you to bleed. you were definitely too far gone now to care; your eyes squeezed shut in pleasure as drool dripped down your bottom lip.
the two of you didn’t say much to each other, but you were very far from being silent. mixed with your airy cries were his deeper grunts and moans, and with every one that reached your ears your pussy involuntarily clenched, causing his noises to come out even louder for your listening pleasure.
he suddenly bent forward, his chest coming down to rest against your back once again as he slowed down and grinded his cock into you. he was so deep inside you, the tip of him was brushing against that sweet spot, making your walls flutter around him happily.
he nudged his head against the side of yours, his lips coming down to kiss your cheek sweetly, a complete contrast to the way he was fucking you mere seconds ago. you weakly opened your eyes to look at him, your eyes moving all the way to the side to meet his own. hyuck groaned as your pussy clenched once more around him, looking directly into your watery eyes as his soft breath hit your face. surprising yourself, you desperately leaned forward and took his lips against yours, kissing him passionately as his cock still worked inside you. as he kissed you back, you felt his fingers slide to your clit, your body jumping in his hold as he began playing with the sensitive nub. his tongue invaded your mouth first, toying with your own playfully before pulling away entirely, leaving you wanting more.
he was getting close, you could tell. his hips pinned yours against the couch with each powerful grind. he positioned his arms on either side of you, using the leverage to thrust into you once again. your clit was abandoned, but the way he pounded you still had your orgasm dancing on the edge of breaking. his thrusts became sloppy and aggressive, his breathing ragged and small whines leaving him as he worked hard to chase his release. you squeaked at the sensation, and before you knew it you were being thrown over the edge for the second time.
the white, hot pleasure enveloped your entire body, your mind going numb as your pussy spasmed hard, causing donghyuck to seize up on top of you and spill his scorching cum inside you. you barely registered the feeling of his cum splattering against your walls, flowing deep. as you came down from your high, your body felt weak and your chest heaved from the effort of the orgasm you experienced. hyuck collapsed against your back, effectively crushing you against the arm of the couch. you grumbled underneath him, squirming but then immediately regretted it as it caused his cock to move against your sensitive walls. to make matters worse, his hips involuntarily bucked into you, causing you to hiss at the overstimulation and you heard him yelp as well.
hyuck gently kissed your shoulder before pulling out of you, his cum almost immediately following, dripping down onto your already soaked thighs. he helped you clean yourself up and was kind enough not to laugh as you limped to sit comfortably on the cushions of the sofa. He joined you, and you both sat together, breathing softly in each other’s company.
“so uh,” hyuck started, his eyes looking over at you and trying not to admire the way you were glowing in the soft light of the room. “do i still get that 20 bucks or…?”
he didn't have enough time to escape before you leaned over and started whacking his shoulder, his giggles sounding off loudly across the room. donghyuck may not have gotten $20 from you, but he was sure he would get to have you and call you his from now on.

The shooting pain in your foot made it difficult for you to continue to walk, you managed to pull yourself to some rocks and sat down beside them. You cradled your foot hoping to relieve some pressure but to no avail. Your ankle had swollen to the size of a tennis ball and even though you weren’t a doctor you knew for sure your foot was not meant to bend that way. You groaned to yourself, allowing your full body to lay among the mossy floor. You stared up into the tree’s just hoping life would give you some sort of break. It felt bizarre laying on the floor, it was an action you chose to avoid, for months now you had been climbing trees and securing yourself to rest for the night, you figured it was the best way to avoid the dead but now with your foot presumably broken you knew that would be next to impossible to achieve.
You were looking for anything to distract you from the pain that swelled in your foot but you didn’t expect it to come in the form of footsteps. You reached for your bow and armed yourself as quickly as you could sitting up perfectly straight to observe the surrounding areas. You became very aware of your inability to move when you heard the footsteps getting closer, your heart started to beat loudly but you managed to keep your breathing stable, yet another life saving hack you had to learn the hard way. The footsteps seemed to be coming from behind you and you turned as much as you could, aiming your weapon directly in front of you. The tip of your arrow seemed to be pointing towards a man, an alive man. The first one you had seen in a while. You kept your weapon aimed at him as you watched him slowly creep around you, he had a crossbow ready and aimed in your direction “Drop it” he growled in your direction. You took a moment before you reluctantly lowered your bow to the ground, you kept your hands up to prove to the man that you had no intentions of killing him.
“I have food in my bag, take whatever you want. I don’t want any trouble!” He never let down his guard but he seemed to take in your situation. He nodded towards your foot, his weapon seemed to point in its direction also causing you to shuffle slightly on the ground.
“S’appened to ya foot?” you looked at the foot in question and shrugged before the man
“Must have broken it fighting off the dead” you let your eyes meet his again, he lowered his weapon a little but not all the way.
“Ya with anyone?” your head dropped at his question, you just shook your head remembering the people you had lost along the way. “What’s ya name?”
“Y/N” you quickly responded, you watched him carefully for a response or at least to learn his name but before he even had a chance to reply you moment was intruded on by the dead.
There were far too many for both of you to kill, you had little arrows left and it seemed he didn’t have much to his name either. You reached for your bow and started taking down as many as you were capable of. You glanced over at the stranger for a moment, you watched him wrestling with one of them, clinging onto his knife. He didn’t notice the one that was creeping up behind him, you took your aim and sent your last arrow into its skull. The man turned immediately to watch the dead fall after taking care of the one he was wrestling with. His eyes shot wide before he darted towards you, he helped you up to your feet and your arm fell on his shoulders, you were slightly confused by his heroism but didn’t complain as you hobbled as fast as you could to get to safe ground.
-
You made it out of the woods with the mystery man, he kept his hold on you as you hobbled down the road. He didn’t say much to you nor did you to him but you kept glancing over at him taking in the details of his face. It wasn’t lost on you how attractive he was despite looking like he hadn’t showered in a lifetime. You finally came to a stop outside what had previously been a prison, people came running to the gates to assist the man and allowed you both in.
“Daryl, who the hell is that?” one of the people called. Daryl, that was his name, you thought it suited him well.
“Y/N, got a broken foot!” he grunted, leading you further into the prison. You looked around at the surroundings completely amazed that a place like this even existed, you figured anyone else alive were just doing the same as you, scavenging and pitching up camp whenever they got too tired to keep walking.
“You can’t just bring people back here, what if they’re dangerous!” a woman now chimed in, following you and Daryl up to the prison. “We have too much to deal with as it is!” The archer stopped in his tracks, turning around making you hobble with him as he faced the girl.
“Y/N saved my damn life out there, can’t just leave em on their own ta die!” though his words were sweet he seemed to spit them at her before continuing on his path.
“It’s just another mouth to feed that we can’t afford and without Rick-“ Daryl cut her off before she could finish, this time he turned without you, leaving you to stand on your own with great difficulty.
“Rick goin crazy aint exactly ma problem! I’ll deal with feedin’ em. You jus worry bout ya damn self!” you felt the need to interject, you hated that your presence had caused a riff with the group, you knew they must have gone through a lot together to still be here and you didn’t want to be the cause of their downfall.
“Look, I’ll leave I don’t want to be a bother” the archer shot you a look which only made you recoil a little more, backing up as much as you could as he approached you.
“Na, ya stayin’, can’t do shit on tha’ foot!” you sighed at his words and turned your head towards the woman who seemed set on sending you back out alone.
“Once my foot’s better I can pull my weight, I’ve gotten pretty good at hunting –“ as you tried to make your case with her, you felt Daryl’s hand on your arm tightly squeezing it. He pulled you away from the situation and back up towards the building.
“Don’t fuckin sell ya self” he growled, letting his grip go lose to pull your arm over his shoulders once more.
-
You got inside the prison just fine, still using Daryl as a crutch. He didn’t say anything to the people he passed nor did they speak anything to him. You noticed a baby in the arms of a young boy which only made your heart hurt a little, thinking of the horrors that boy must have gone through that the baby will surely have to experience one day. You reached one of the cells and the man let you go to lay down on the bottom bunk of the bed. You let yourself sink into the mattress, the feeling felt so foreign yet it reminded you of home. You closed your eyes to perfectly picture your old bedroom, remembering the scent of your freshly cleaned sheets. You let your eyes open at the feel of the mattress shifting slightly, you watched Daryl as he rummaged through your satchel. He threw the protein bars you managed to find on the bed beside you and the packets of powdered mash potato soon followed. He pulled out three small, white packets of vegetable seeds that had been laying in your bag for a while now, he finally looked up at you, cocking his brow at his find. “I found them a while back, thought If I found somewhere safe enough I could plant them” he grunted at your words before throwing the seeds back into your bag and pulled out your flask, he shook it to figure out how much water remained in side but quickly realised there was nothing occupying the flask.
He pushed himself from the bed and made his way towards the door “Daryl” you called out, hoping that you had remembered his name correctly. He stopped in the doorway and looked back at you “Thank you” you whispered sending him a smile, he bit down on his lip not entirely sure how to take your thanks.
“Get some rest” he finally replied before leaving you alone in the room which you would soon come to know was his.
Daryl made his way across the court yard after filling your flask up with water but he was caught by the women from before, Maggie was her name, another thing you’d later learn. “Why you so dead set on helpin’ them?” she was blunt and straight to the point, the southerner just grunted at her words, fidgeting with the cap on your flask. “Daryl!” she continued to press the man until he couldn’t bare her voice anymore.
“Reminds me of someone” he whispered before pushing past her to continue his journey back to you. Maggie followed after him, tried to get more information on who it was you bore resemblance to but he never answered her. He wasn’t quite ready to share that part of his past with anyone just yet.

I loved seeing the Gentlemen saves Jester's kid in the Rescued piece you wrote, could we have some more of the Gentlemen and Jester's kid? Maybe them calling him Grandpa?
Sorry this took so long, it started as one thing and then turned into something I didn't originally plan for… Hope you still like it 😁
The Little Things You See
Child of the Nein (Jester & Child!Reader)
(More of The Gentleman & Child!Reader but you get the idea)
As much as you’d like to help the Nein in their missions there were a few exceptions here and there were you would have to stay behind, one such reason being the group getting tasked by the Gentleman to look into a… as Jester put it, bad version of her mother’s job.
"This is for grownups only okay, no sneaking along." Jester re-informs, you give her a nod. "I mean it, this isn’t just a fight the bad guys and win, we have to be a little more sneaky and I don’t want you to get caught in something really inappropriate."
"Okay mama, I promise not to follow." You say holding one hand up and placing the other on your chest to show her you didn’t have your fingers crossed… this time.
"Good good," she hums happily, "and don’t worry you'll be looked after here, right dad!" She calls over to the Gentleman, who rubs at his temples and lets out a groan. He quickly straightens himself out more and goes on to give one more quick briefing to the Nein before they depart, leaving you there with him.
"So now what?" You tilt your head up at him curiously.
"Now I have some business to attend to, while you stay here and don’t cause any trouble." He simply says, making you pout as he turns and walks away from you. You hobble over to a chair and sit yourself down at a table and make a few doodles in your journal as you wait for time to pass, it’s not long however before you start to get bored and fidgety, feeling the need to get up and do something. You slide off the chair and have a look around, something catches your eye and a mischievous look crosses your features…
"What did I not just tell you!?" He looks at you with strong annoyance. The bar fight behind you finally calming down.
"It’s not my fault this place can get boring, I was just trying to add a little more fun." You give a smile, a hint of deviousness still behind it.
"This is not your playground, this is a serious business." He groans, rubbing at his temples.
"Yeah and I’m bored, I wanna do something with my grandpa!" You hop in place, hoping he'd take a hint. His eye twitches a bit as he turns away from you, placing a hand to his forehead and taking a audible breath.
"I don’t know what's been placed in your mind but I've already discussed this. I am not Jester's father, and I’m certainly not your grandfather so just… stop!" It goes quiet between the two of you for a very long time, you shuffle off to the side and pull out a toy from your pack to mindlessly play with it, there was a strong question on your mind but decided it best to give the Gentleman some peace for a while to cool off first.
"Why do you act like you don’t want to be my mama's dad?" You ask suddenly, catching the Gentleman off guard from your softer tone.
"Wha… I… this is a very complicated subject I don’t think you’d quite understand." He says slowly, you let out a sigh.
"I pay more attention to some things then people think I really do, I’ve seen how you'd get this look of… I don’t know what to call it… sadness I guess, when mama would talk about wanting you to be with grandma again." You say, fiddling with the toy in your hands.
"See you don’t understand, I’m a wanted man and stepping into the public eye would cause trouble. So you see now, even if I did want to I couldn’t. Not that I care much anyways." He try’s explaining, while also trying to brush your to the side.
"Why are adults so dumb and hide their feelings so much." You’re now the one sighing in annoyance at him. "It’s like you’re scared of being your real self." You finish.
"I beg your pardon." The Gentleman looks at you, quite offended by your words. "Did you not hear what I just said? I am a powerful crime boss, with powerful connections and blood on my hands, wanted for so many different things."
"And you’re scared to be yourself." You say both nonchalantly and matter-of-factly, all while still playing around with the toy in your hands.
"I cannot believe I’m having this kind of conversation with a child. Why do you think I should care about what you say." He says, sounding irritated.
"Well, why did you bother to help me from my caretaker?" Finally, finally you make eye contact with him. "They weren’t completely wrong when they’d said I didn’t have anyone else, before I met Jester they were the only one I had. If you don’t care, why would you help me and not do your business stuff like you normally do?" A long silence falls between the two of you.
"You are something else." He starts, quietly. "I never would’ve guessed a normally spritely child could pick up on so much."
"I love having fun and exploring! But I can also notice things you adults don’t seem to, which is weird because it seems obvious to me." You mutter the last part more to yourself. He looks like he’s about to say something but you cut him off and quickly change the subject when you hear your stomach growl at you. "I’m hungry. Got any snacks?" He stares at you a second before placing a hand to his head, a more amused look on his face this time at your quick change in behaviour.
"Something else indeed." He mutters, before straightening his posture. "Very well, but you’ll have to assist me in something."
"Like what!?" Your eyes light up in excitement and curiosity.
"You said it yourself, you notice things we adults apparently cannot. I have caught wind of a mole amongst our ranks, with your observational skills and innocent charm perhaps you’ll be able to help identify them." He sounded much more relaxed, like some invisible weight just lifted away, if only just a little bit.
"Really? Cool! I know how to use Zone of Truth if you need it… wait no, Caleb's told me I can’t unless it’s like a really important thing."
"This is important, for me." He pauses a moment. "I won’t tell if you don’t." He adds, placing a finger to his lips, there's a minor hint of playfulness in his voice making you beam and nod. With that you not only got some tasty snacks but also got to spend some more time with the Gentleman, it was a win win. He certainly still held his formal face in front of everyone else because business is still business and there was the mole situation that you were helping sort out but he was able to drop some of that facade for you, though not by a lot. It was funny to you how stubborn grownup were, seeing how they’d always call you the stubborn one.
It may have taken up a day and a half but surprisingly your hunt for the mole was a lot easier then you thought, you sat in a separate room from the bar, set up a Zone of Truth spell and put on an sweet, innocent act so that those affected by the spell would quickly fall into a false sense of security around you and hopefully forget about the spell in general. You’d then ask specific questions the Gentleman had given you, paying as much attention to the person's actions and tone when they'd answer, even if they could only speak the truth that didn’t mean they could work around their words. Once you found someone suspicious they’d be brought elsewhere for further questioning, or at least that’s what you were told, as it turns out there were a few moles working together to try and bring down the Gentleman’s operations (red was looking pretty sus…… I’ll stop). You were just glad you could help, like your own little mission. Finally, after what felt like an eternity but was closer to 4 days the Nein return having completed their mission, without hesitation you run over and get swept up into a hug by Jester.
"Your back! How was it? Did you stop all the bad guys?" You bombard her with questions, she laughs and does her best to answer them as best as possible, leaving out anything you were too young to know about yet.
"What about you? How was your time here?" Jester asks you which you happily recount what you all did to her, pointing to a corner of the wall where you’d made some drawings for the Traveler making her smile. She secures her grip on you and the group starts to make their way out, but not before she looks over at the Gentleman. "Thanks for looking after them dad." She calls, he looks away and sighs.
"Yeah, It was a lot of fun. Thanks grandpa!" You also call.
"Please don’t call me that." He says, rubbing a hand down his face. You catch the slightest twitch of a smile on his face before it goes back to being neutral, you giggle at this, grownups really were weird.

Fic - Gus
Word Count: 4,475
Summary: Gus has a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
Notes: Thank you to @purpleandgreen13 (purpleandgreen on AO3) for coming up with this prompt, it was such a fun and inspiring one to work with! You’re the best! ^.^
From the moment Gus woke up, he should have known that today was going to be an awful day. Water dripped from the ceiling of his room, plopping onto his forehead and waking him with a start. The rainstorm forecasted for the day had begun, revealing a leak in the roof that Gus hadn’t known was there until the rain unceremoniously woke him from his slumber. After clambering out of bed in shock and confusion, Gus wiped the sleep from his eyes and looked upward as another drop of rain landed right in his eye.
“Son of a-,” Gus mumbled, giving himself a wide berth from the bed to avoid getting wet any further.
His sheets had already soaked up some of the moisture, but the last thing he needed was a soaking wet mattress. Gus rushed to the storage room to grab an empty bucket to collect as much rain water as he could until Robin could come by to fix his roof. Hopefully it wouldn’t be long or else he’d be back and forth all day dumping the bucket. It was expected to rain heavily all day long.
The next sign that Gus’ day would be terrible arrived only moments later when Gus stepped on a small puddle of water that had dripped onto the floor, causing him to lose his balance and fall backward. He slammed his back hard against the footboard of his bed, causing him to yelp out in pain. His already bad back was now throbbing in pain. Wincing, Gus rose from the floor and hobbled across the room to at least change out of his wet pajamas and into something warm and dry.
Upon opening his closet, Gus reached for a plain t-shirt and his favorite orange jacket. It wasn’t until the jacket was on and he reached down to zip it up that he noticed the huge rip in the sleeve of his jacket. It was likely Emily could mend it for him, but it was another rough blow to his already awful morning. Gus elected for one of his lesser preferred jackets instead.
Being awake far earlier than he was used to, Gus shuffled out of his room into the kitchen of the saloon. Usually he wouldn’t wake up until almost lunch time due to being up late every night for his business, but with the rain waking him up so early, he figured he would at least fix himself a meal. It wasn’t often he ate breakfast anyway, so treating himself to a complete breakfast and a glass of homemade orange juice seemed a decent enough consolation prize. Robin’s shop wouldn’t even open for another twenty minutes anyway.
Gus stepped into the walk-in refrigerator in the kitchen and began pulling the ingredients he needed to make his breakfast. Once he had everything in-hand, he turned to leave and heard a high-pitched squeak. For a moment, it sounded like a mouse. It was enough of a distraction for Gus to momentarily forget where he was or what he was doing and the armful of ingredients he was carrying fell to the floor as Gus accidentally dropped them. The squeak, it turned out, came from a squeaky floorboard he had stepped on and wasn’t a rodent at all. Gus almost wished it was, at least it would have justified his flustered response. Instead, all he was left with was no ingredients for breakfast and a huge mess to clean while his back was out of sorts.
It took over a half hour for Gus to completely clean up the spill, the cracked eggs seeped down into every crevice and cranny of the walk-in fridge. Not to mention, it was a very chilly ordeal to clean a mess inside of such a cold space. Gus had lost all track of time while he was cleaning the mess in the fridge and all thoughts of calling Robin to repair his roof had left his mind until the job was done. By the time he realized it, he glanced at the clock and saw that she’d been open for fifteen minutes already. He hoped he wasn’t too late.
“Hello there, you’ve reached the Bennetts!” Demetrius’ voice answered cheerfully when Gus finally picked up the phone to call.
“Hey Demetrius, I’m in a bit of a bind,” Gus began, getting right to his point. There was no time for pleasantries today. “The roof of the saloon is leaking. Right over my bed, actually. Any chance Robin can head out here and fix it? I’ve got a bucket under there right now until she can make it.”
“Oh no, I wish I could say she could but she’s actually out of the house right now,” Demetrius answered apologetically. “Her parents called her first thing this morning, her father is ill and she needed to head out to help her mother.”
“Sorry to hear that,” Gus replied sincerely. As unfortunate as his situation was, he really was sorry to hear that there were health issues in Robin’s family. It was a situation where Gus couldn’t in all conscience be mad at Robin for being unavailable despite his desperation.
Once he hung up with Demetrius, Gus heaved a long, heavy sigh. Someone in town had to be able to help him, there was no way he could put it off. There weren’t many other people in town Gus could think to ask, but he started at the top of the list and worked his way down. Sebastian seemed like a decent possibility given that his mother was the very woman Gus needed for the job, but Seb made it quite clear that he had nothing to do with her work at all. Shane was next on the list, he was actually quite the handyman, but the call went straight to voicemail. Gus had to assume he was working at Joja today and had his phone silenced. Alex at the very least was strong, but as Gus suspected he had no knowledge of how to fix a leaky roof. Gus was even desperate enough to call Lewis who had been the town’s handyman before he was mayor, but of course his old age made him too hesitant to help Gus out. Not that Gus could blame him, of course, but it was maddening how limited his options were. He’d have to call a company in Grampleton or even in the city which would end up costing him at least triple what Robin would charge.
One very expensive phone call later, Gus managed to get an appointment with a roofer from Grampleton for 4:00pm , right when the dinner rush would be starting. As anticipated, the flat fee was already more expensive, plus additional fees for travel and late notice. Until they arrived, Gus would have to keep shuffling buckets around to catch as much water as he could.
By the time the roofer was sorted, Gus realized that there wasn’t much time left until the saloon opened at noon for lunch. Having dropped a substantial amount of ingredients earlier in the morning, Gus knew a trip to Pierre’s was necessary. It wasn’t far to Pierre’s store but in this rainstorm, Gus knew he’d need every protection even for such a short walk. After another trip to his room for his raincoat, rain boots, and umbrella, Gus was ready to face the elements. With his back still aching, Gus crossed town square slowly and carefully towards Pierre’s shop. The last thing he needed was to try and rush to get out of the rain and fall once more. He chuckled to himself at the thought that Doctor Harvey would commend him for choosing safety first.
The trip to Pierre’s was just as frustrating as the rest of his morning had been. It took him quite some time just to get out of his wet rain gear and Pierre snapped at him for leaving a puddle by the entrance even though it wasn’t exactly something he could help in a rainstorm. Pierre’s selection wasn’t great either, he was out of stock on a few ingredients that Gus needed so Gus would have to tweak his menu slightly to accommodate. He knew he would get an earful that night when Shane couldn’t order pepper poppers. When Gus went to checkout, he realized he’d forgotten his money at home in his rush and had to practically beg Pierre to let him pay at a later time without having to go all the way back for his money. It wasn’t until he started to remind Pierre of his own ongoing tab at the saloon, within earshot of Caroline, that Pierre quickly shushed him and agreed that Gus could stop by the following day to pay for the groceries.
The short walk home was plagued with its own difficulties. Gus had three bags of groceries and with one hand holding his umbrella, the other had to carry three full shopping bags while trying to keep them dry under the umbrella. By the time he arrived back at the saloon, his hand was aching from carrying the weight of the groceries which had gotten slightly wet despite his best efforts. Even Gus himself had gotten wet, the jacket he’d put on that morning had a drenched collar and water had gotten into his rain boots and soaked his socks through. Another change of clothes for the day.
Lunch prep went fine enough other than a small slice of a finger while chopping onions. On any other day Gus would consider it a terrible misfortune but today, it was nothing compared to everything else that had happened so far. It wasn’t serious enough to warrant a visit to Doctor Harvey, thank goodness. Nothing a bandage couldn’t fix. It did make the rest of his lunch prep awkward and it certainly hurt, but the pain at least distracted him a bit from his aching back.
Because of the rain, the lunch “rush” wasn’t exactly a rush at all, which was fine with Gus on a day like today. Only a few people stopped by for lunch, mostly to-go orders. Ordinarily he’d feel bored with nothing to do or worried by a lack of paying customers, but he welcomed the chance to take a break after his busy morning. His back was still aching from his fall and his finger throbbed uncomfortably under its bandage. The worst he could say about the lunch crowd was that any time a customer entered the saloon, it meant drying the rain puddles left behind in their wake once they left. Of course there was also the constant back and forth from the bar to his room to switch out buckets, a task he had to do almost every thirty minutes.
At 3:30 he could hear the door of the saloon open while he was in his bedroom, switching out yet another bucket under the leaky roof. By now his back was on fire from the constant back and forth, lifting heavy buckets, and mopping up the puddles of water in his room and at the entrance of the saloon. When he heard the door open, he heaved a sigh of relief knowing that help was on the way. It was no doubt Emily arriving for her evening shift. Gus was hoping she could take on a bit of the work tonight to give him some reprieve. If he could manage to only get away with cooking for the night, he’d be happy. Yet when Gus reentered the saloon, he was surprised to find Haley standing near the doorway looking around for him.
“Oh, there you are!” Haley huffed, sounding incredibly impatient and irritated. “Honestly, we thought you were dead, you haven’t answered your phone all day.”
While Haley stood in the entrance, arms folded in annoyance, Gus rushed over to his phone to see what was the matter. He didn’t have a cell phone as he’d never really had a need for one so he relied on a landline at the bar for any of his phone calls. Gus groaned when he noticed he hadn’t properly set the handset back down on the charging dock and it had run out of battery.
“Geez, kid, I’m sorry,” Gus sighed, setting the phone back on the dock to start charging. Haley huffed impatiently in response.
“I had to head all the way over here in the pouring rain just to tell you that Emily can’t come in tonight, she’s sick,” Haley went on, arms still folded angrily. “First she’s got me running over here for her, then off to Pierre’s to pick up a few things, then over to the clinic for some medicine. Ugh, this is the worst day ever.”
Gus had to try very hard not to burst out laughing at this response, if Haley’d known the kind of day he was having, she certainly wouldn’t consider a few errands ‘the worst day ever’. Instead Gus swallowed the urge to rant and smiled kindly in return. Kind smiles were his specialty, after all.
“Sorry to hear Emily’s sick,” Gus remarked in concern. “Need me to send you with any hot soup? Ginger ale?”
“We got it covered,” Haley replied. “I’m just gonna stock up on cans of soup at Pierre’s, it’s fine.”
Gus cringed knowing that his employee was sick at home and would be having canned soup as her meal, it was something that he would go out of his way to stop if it were any other day. But between the roof repairs, working solo for the night, and the numerous aches and pains he was experiencing, he begrudgingly accepted that canned soup would have to do. Maybe on another day he would have to make it up to Emily some other way.
“Tell Emily I hope she feels better soon but that she shouldn’t worry,” Gus went on, his kind smile still plastered onto his face. “I can handle things here.”
Haley left with a brief wave leaving Gus to sigh heavily the moment she was gone. He didn’t entirely believe that he could handle things on his own, but there wasn’t much of a choice. Business still had to continue with or without help.
4:00 came and went with no sign of the roofers. Gus was getting anxious awaiting their arrival, hoping they wouldn’t cancel on him. The buckets were filling up quickly as the rain poured down and now he was emptying full, heavy buckets every twenty minutes. It didn’t help that by 4:00, customers were already starting to pile in. While the lunch rush was light from people wanting to avoid being out in the rain, it seemed there was the opposite sentiment at dinnertime. Maybe everyone was sick of being cooped up at home, maybe they didn’t feel like cooking, maybe they liked the ambience of dining in a cozy saloon during a rainstorm. Either way, business started to pick up quickly and Gus had to strategize every minute to make sure no time, energy, or effort was wasted. He’d find himself taking orders one minute, slicing vegetables another, running to the back to empty and replace a bucket, then back to refill a drink, then off to the burners to cook a meal, all while coping with a bandaged finger and injured back. It was chaos. He’d long since stopped trying to squeeze drying the floor into the mix, instead he setup his wet floor sign and hoped for the best.
Just before 6:30, Gus could hear a clang outside followed by the sound of loud thuds overhead. The roofers must have arrived and already set to work. The activity on the roof caused many of the patrons to stare up at the ceiling in annoyance, it certainly wasn’t the most pleasant sound and a lot of the louder thuds and clangs were drowning out the jukebox. Gus could already see on the faces of his patrons that they were irritated and for that matter, he was irritated as well. Of course the work had to be done, but it was hard to focus with so many distractions. He found himself getting side-tracked in the middle of what he was doing and as a result, the orders were coming out more slowly. This was only causing further irritation among the bar patrons. Thankfully everyone seemed to realize many of the disadvantages Gus was working with between a bandaged finger, no extra employee to help, and a loud series of bangs outside beyond his control so no one ever complained to him. Still, he could sense the overall tension in the room and it only added pressure to an already stressful day. Luckily when Gus broke the news to Shane that pepper poppers weren’t an option, Shane opened his mouth to whine but stopped upon seeing the look on Gus’ face. Though Gus was ordinarily relaxed and downright jolly, he was sure that today his bad day was reflected in his mood.
It was only a half hour or so later that the doors of the saloon opened and in walked two men Gus had never seen before, absolutely drenched. It must be the roofers. Their entrance alone brought a massive puddle at the doorstep of the saloon and as they walked across the room, they left a trail of rainwater in their wake. Gus would be lucky if no one slipped and fell and slapped him with a lawsuit.
“Well we did a temporary fix for now to stop the leaking, but we’ll have to come back when it’s dry to fix it properly,” one of the men explained. “Though truth be told, that roof’s definitely seen better days. How old is it?”
“32 years?” Gus answered uncertainly, screwing up his face in thought to try and recall how old the roof could be.
“I guessed as much,” the other man replied. “We can fix your roof, but your best bet will just be to replace it.”
Gus’ stomach clenched at this news. Of course. Of course on one of the worst days he’s had, he now had to face the prospect of replacing the roof of the saloon. Even at Robin’s rate it would still be a costly project. Gus shook his head wearily and looked up to the roofers, not even trying to attempt his usual smile any longer.
“Well thanks for patching it up for the time being,” Gus sighed. “How much do I owe ya?”
“We’ll mail you the bill in three to five business days,” the first man answered. A bill that would no doubt include the travel surcharge as well as a late notice surcharge all to do a very temporary patch job.
When the roofers left, Gus stared down at the massive puddle of water in the middle of the saloon and spaced out for a moment, disconnecting entirely from everything going on around him. The day started poorly enough, but it never let up. It was the kind of day that beats you down until you just want to call it quits and crawl back into bed to start fresh in the morning. Gus didn’t often have bad days and when he did, his general optimism was enough to make the best of it. Today, there was nothing at all to make the best of, no silver lining he could find and no positive twist he could spin. Today was horrible. It only got worse when he snapped out of his brief moment of calm to the smell of smoke. The arrival of the roofers had snatched Gus’ attention from the fish he was cooking on the stove and now the filet was smoking in the pan, most definitely burnt by this point. Gus rushed to turn the burner off and removed the fish from the heat in a panic. Just when he felt seconds away from a total breakdown, he could hear a soft, gentle voice to his right.
“Gus… are you okay?”
Doctor Harvey tilted his head with an expression of concern, clearly noticing Gus’ flustered state. As usual whenever Gus was going through personal problems or having a rough day, he attempted to suck it up and put on a warm, welcoming face for his patrons. Many of them came to the saloon for an escape from their own problems, they certainly didn’t need to contend with his. But the moment Gus even tried to plaster a smile onto his face, he could feel his shoulders shaking as a swell of emotion took over. He was moments away from bursting into tears.
“I…” Gus began in a shaky voice, still grasping at the chance that he could play it off but ultimately failing. “No… no, I’m not.”
Harvey very suddenly looked on high alert and his friendly concern became far more serious.
“Are you in need of immediate medical attention?” Harvey asked suddenly, already rising from his barstool. As awful as his day had been, Gus couldn’t help but chuckle at Harvey’s reaction. He couldn’t explain why, but it was amusing how quickly Harvey was ready to jump into action if needed.
“No, no, nothing like that, Doctor H,” Gus replied, shaking his head. “Just a bad day. I won’t bend your ear, I’ll… I’ll handle it. Sorry for burning your fish, I’ll get started on another one right away.”
Before Gus could even turn around, however, he noticed Harvey shake his head vigorously and pull out the barstool next to him. Though Harvey was often quiet and reserved, preferring to keep to himself whenever he was at the saloon, in this moment he smiled a kind and welcoming smile as he patted the seat next to him.
“That won’t be necessary,” Harvey replied. “I can’t in good conscience contribute to your hectic night tonight. If you’d like to join me and talk about it you’re more than welcome to or you can take a seat behind the bar to unwind for a bit. Either way, you need a break. Doctor’s orders.”
It was strange how quickly all eyes in the saloon were on Gus the moment he stepped away from the bar, walked around the counter, and took a seat on the barstool beside Harvey. Everyone had only ever seen him behind the bar taking orders, filling drinks, or preparing food. Gus couldn’t recall a time he sat on the customer’s side of the bar during business hours and clearly no one else could either. A collective silence filled the room and no one even tried to hide their stares. Once Gus was seated next to Harvey, it was surprisingly Shane who spoke up first.
“You doin’ alright there, Gus?” Shane asked, raising a curious eyebrow.
“Just need a breather,” Gus replied as calmly as he was capable of. Clearly it wasn’t that calmly, though, because now all the patrons in the saloon looked just as concerned as Harvey had moments earlier.
“Is everything okay?” Marnie asked from the back of the saloon.
“Gus, what’s wrong?” Leah asked, dropping the sketch she was working on to step closer to the bar.
“Lookin’ a little pale there, Gussy, you’re scarin’ me,” Pam remarked, worry lining her face as she stared at Gus.
It seemed all of the attention in the saloon was on Gus at the moment and he wasn’t sure whether that was making this whole ordeal better or worse than it had been. Gus wasn’t used to the spotlight on him, he was used to being the one shining the spotlight on others, encouraging them to open up and talk about whatever they needed to talk about. Whether it was gushing over good news, venting over a rough day, or asking for advice from a friend, Gus was always there to support his patrons. It was odd to have the tables flipped and be the one in need of support.
“Nothin’, nothin’, it’s just… it’s just a rough day,” Gus tried to explain, but no one was buying it.
“Take a load off, Gus,” Marnie offered, pulling her chair out to give Gus a more comfortable seat than a barstool.
“I’ll grab some ice water, you should stay hydrated,” Harvey remarked, already heading to the back of the bar to prepare a glass.
“Want something to eat?” Pierre offered, bringing his plate of fried calamari over. “I’ve only had a few, you can take the rest.”
Leah hadn’t said another word, she had already started drying the large puddle in the middle of the saloon with towels she had found behind the bar. Within minutes, Gus was seated in one chair with his feet propped up on another, ice water and food on the table next to him, in the middle of a newly dried saloon. His patrons surrounded him, close enough to show their support but not so close that it was suffocating, and all looked at him expectantly.
“What else do you need?” Pam asked, rolling up her sleeves as though prepared to get to work on something, she just didn’t know what.
“I’d like to take a look at that bandaged finger,” Harvey pointed out, glancing at Gus’ injured hand.
“Who were those men that showed up outta nowhere?” Shane asked, glancing towards the door. “Did they say or do anything to you? I swear to Yoba if they did, I’ll…” Shane trailed off when he caught sight of a disapproving look from Marnie, but Gus caught Shane’s hands ball up aggressively into fists.
“I’m fine, really, I already feel so much better just to have all of your support,” Gus answered honestly. “Those were just roofers here to look at a leak in the roof, it’s fine. Really. It was just one of those days where everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong but putting it all into perspective, it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.”
It was true, Gus was already feeling better just in the few short minutes that had passed. Moments earlier he had been on the verge of a breakdown but it was incredible how quickly that changed just from receiving the love and support of his community. It was always Gus who was the one providing support, providing help, providing a shoulder to cry on. He’d never needed the same in return until now but seeing how his patrons responded in his moment of need was overwhelming. It warmed his heart to know that if he ever truly needed anyone, they would all be there for him, ready to help and support him. They proved it tonight. Today may have been one of the worst days Gus had had in quite some time, but tonight somehow proved in an odd and unexpected way to be one of the best.
