So I've been watching the hate-fest for the Gor books, and (never having read them, because I'm female and strictly dominant and I already get enough of the "women are biologically predisposed to submission" line IRL from the kinds of dudes who read Gor novels) I thought it was a bit unfair. Sure, maybe the prose is kinda dated, but of COURSE there's gonna be all kinds of misogyny! They're fetish books! I'm sure some of the kinky femdom stuff I've written is just as bad, when viewed from outside a fetish lense. And yeah, the kind of dude who loves the Gor novels is very much not my kind of dude, but let's be real. Deeply ingrained misogyny is, uh, not exactly rare in SciFi-loving-dudes, and when you add being a dom to that it's unsurprising that at least a vocal minority of them are gonna be Terrible. Certainly, it's not the books' fault, I thought.
Last week, a copy of Tarnsman somehow made its way into my neighborhood's book swap. I swear I could *feel* Odin there, side-eyeing me expectantly while Loki tried not to cackle somewhere in the background. "It can't be as bad as they say. In fact, I'm Gonna Read This, purely so I can defend it on the internet! No kinkshaming on my watch!"
So I read it.
And I have. Regrets.
(Loki spent the entire time looking over my shoulder and laughing himself absolutely SICK, btw)
I told y'all. Me and @natalieironside told y'all and you don't believe us and that's on you because we look you in the eyes from these here Tunglr.hell blogs and say "These books are this bad" and still you doubt us.
The only things either of us so far have changed in Gor are to make it less fucking painfully shit
