my two cents on the everlux drama
am I a fan? no, but keep in mind I haven’t been a huge fan of any ancient breed. I have a number of issues with their design but it doesn’t involve the concept of being a grub kinda dragon or how fat they are. mostly it’s just that all their different components feel a bit jarring when all put together so I find them kinda cluttered.
but on the other hand, I’m used to being disappointed in ancients for entirely different reasons. I’d SO much rather be disappointed that they went a little too cluttered for my tastes than getting the same “this ancient could pass for a modern easily” that we’ve gotten so many times already
so good on staff for trying something new, I hope we get more attempts like this. maybe the first one didn’t hit for me but there’s always more chances. there is also a lot of valid feedback that I really hope the artist(s? might just be Undel) receive, but this wasn’t just an everlux issue (don’t get me started about fathom M and aether M and undertide M and)
and I hope the next breed is even fatter
#I was about to give up on ancients because I found them so boring#because they did not push the mold of what dragons could be like they said they would#despite all the ones we’ve had so far this feels like the first actual attempt at an ancient to me#aberrations barely come in second place but they don’t count for me btw. very tame 2 headed design#I have my gripes with FR’s designs and staff’s choices but a lot of people are blowing this one waaaay out of proportion#I said this somewhere else but they feel like a spore creature someone just kept slapping parts on#but idk. I’m willing to say ‘ok this isn’t for me’ and move on#but I’m saying ‘ok this isn’t for me’ in a different way this time because I can see the attempt. and I think that’s important#rambles#I’m writing this instead of sleeping#goodnight now

It’s been a while since I’ve been on flight rising since my lap top was taken away by the school for the summer. But when I heard about the new update, and especially the eyes, I was ecstatic! They looked so cool to me. So when I saw that a lot of people didn’t like them. I was confused and hurt. Since the artist who made them put a lot of work into them. And the coders did a lot of work to implement them. Can you explain why you don’t like them?
Sorry I didn’t get to this yesterday!
Honestly they look cool to me too! There are a few I don’t want to have but that’s par for the course, and there’s some artifacting on the multi-eye that should probably be fixed. But overall I like them and the idea of them.
The issue for me is the execution; specifically, the randomness and the whole scattersight vials thing.
I have mentioned it before but every aspect of FR’s breeding mechanic is controlable save for gender, which is 1/2 - basically the best chance you can have while still being evenly random. Colours, breeds and genes are all controllable, and the latter two are directly controllable through scrolls if breeding doesn’t net you the look you want (I’ll mention colour scatterscrolls in a sec).
These eyes are not avaliable as scrolls, but they’re also not hereditary; I can’t plan for them in any way at all. I get that it makes it “fair”, since all natural eyes are equally avaliable to every player, but having a core aspect of a dragon be complete RNG isn’t a development I enjoy, personally.
As for the vials themselves: I didn’t like how they were implimented. They’re RNG, and while the colour scatterscroll is random as well, the latter at least a) gives an equal chance of any colour and b) is always avaliable for a set price.
The vials had the same chance distribution as they would if you were breeding for them and they had a chance for giving the exact same eyes. This lead to people using huge amounts of them and getting very liitle return. And now they’re permanently retired - but they haven’t been poofed, meaning they’re liable to rocket in price over time. At the moment they’re not bad, but eliminates used to be reasonably cheap too so I’m not confident.
Plus the fact that they were only avaliable for three days. Which isn’t very user friendly, honestly, though it’s better than only one day I guess.
(I’m gonna be honest: I played Dappervolk, another pet sim website, and two of my biggest gripes about it (the gatcha shops and the April Fools event) were largely reflected in this update. And I think that’s why I’ve disliked and been more open about my scorn than I possibly would be otherwise.)
I understand these things were by design, I get that the staff wanted to do this & every design feature I mentioned was purposeful. It’s their baby, not mine, and ultimately I respect their choice but I’m just... not a fan :/
#long post#drama#salt#just in case lol#eyegate#i would have loved the eyes if they were herediary & the scrolls were avaliable constantly#but as it is... ngh#yall can ask abt the dappervolk thing if youre interested#but this post was getting bear long already lol#(also your avatar is adorable)#midna-magic
