“I’ll feel much better if you let me walk you home.” w jim 😳
jimmy babie 🥺
sorry this took so long! i forgot i had it finished, sitting in my drafts, waiting to be posted.
i debated for a while on whether jim or the reader should say the prompt, but i decided on jim.
———————————————————————
“Oh my god, do you think I’ll hook up with Nate tonight? He’s been flirting so hard with me and he’s definitely into me, he just hasn’t made a move.” Ruby spoke lively about her long time crush.
Truth be told, I haven’t really been “into someone” for a while; at least until I moved to PV. I was a high schooler when my family made the move, which left me as the friendless loner until I met the Masons, Medina and Jim. They were both so sweet and friendly, in fact, it was Medina who invited me to sit with her when she saw I was eating by myself.
I met Jim soon after, electing to be my lab partner in chemistry. He told me what life was like there, about how him and his sister had recently started surfing, and how I was welcome to join them. He was so warm and inviting to me, I couldn’t help but harbor feelings for him that were a little more intimate than platonic.
“Didn’t he stay up all night texting you? Sounds like he’s pretty into you to me.” I affirmed, bumping her shoulder with mine.
Just before we entered the house, Ruby stopped me, placing a comforting hand on my arm.
“I’ll stay by your side, Y/N. I know you don’t know a lot of the people at the party, so we’ll stick together, okay?” She asked with a smile. I nodded, thanking her before we headed inside.
As expected, friends of hers swarmed her, buzzing with different variations of wishes and congratulations on her special day. Surprisingly, she kept her word and stuck by my side, even rejecting those who asked her to dance.
Everyone until Nate, however.
“Hey Y/N, mind if I steal your date for a bit? I promise I’ll have her back before midnight.” He joked, spinning her in his arms.
“It’ll just be for a little while, I won’t ditch you all night.” Ruby promised, looking slightly guilty.
“It’s okay, guys.” I laughed. “Who am I to stop the birthday girl from getting some much needed action?”
Ruby’s face burned, her jaw falling slack as she giggled. “Shut up!” She squealed, playfully punching me in the arm. The two of them stumbled off into the crowd, leaving me by my lonesome.
Could I blame her? No, she’d been into Nate for months without either of them acting on it, which I imagine stirred up some frustrations. Was I now by myself at a party I hardly knew anyone at? Yes I was.
I made my way out to the deck of the house, the fresh breeze filling my nostrils. I grabbed a beer, leaning over the railing and watching the sun slowly slip beyond the horizon. I took a long sip of my drink as the waves lapped at the shore, tinted by the gorgeous shades of pink and orange in the sky.
“Now what’s a gorgeous girl like you doing all by yourself out here?” A familiar voice said from over my shoulder. I whipped my head around to see none other than my favorite boy.
“Ruby just ditched me to go have fun with her boy toy. Just a bummer because she said she’d stick by me, but I’m just glad she’s having fun.” I grinned at him, turning my gaze back to the beach as I heard him pull out more drinks for us from the cooler.
“It’s so beautiful, isn’t it?” I murmured, staring out into the perfectly manicured expanse of the beach.
“It’s gorgeous.” I turned my gaze to him only to find that his eyes were on mine as he spoke, causing heat to rush to my cheeks.
“I still haven’t seen you out on the waves yet, I’ve heard you’re pretty skilled.” I changed the subject, propping myself up on the railing to angle my whole body towards him.
“I’ve been known to be pretty skilled at a few other things, too.” He smirked and wiggled his eyebrows at me.
“Gross, Mason. I’m talking about surfing you perv.” I laughed, pushing his shoulder.
“It’s so amazing out there. You don’t know how good it feels to be riding that wave. Just the feeling of total bliss and weightlessness.” God, I could listen to him talk forever, the way he spoke with such true emotion. But his words seemed to put a damper on him, his eyebrows scrunching as an invisible barbell laid upon his shoulders.
“Think you could teach me? I’d love to be out there with you.” I tried to lighten the mood with my words.
“Sure, I’ve always wanted to pursue charity work.” He grinned, laughing at his own joke.
“Hey! I can’t be that bad!” I pretended to be offended, pressing a solemn hand to my heart. The conversation was flowing now, both of us pleasantly tipsy.
We talked for a while, chatting about everything from the mundane to the wildly baffling enigmas of the universe until I’d become embarrassingly drunk from all the alcohol Jim had given to me.
It wasn’t that he was trying to get me drunk, no, rather that he didn’t know I was such a lightweight.
He told another joke, making me cackle uncontrollably, clutching my ribs as I gasped for air between giggles. My balance faltered as I lost my grip on the railing, tipping over and nearly falling to the ground.
“Woah, slow down there, I didn’t think I was that funny.” He chuckled, helping me back to my feet.
“You are sooo funny, Jimmy! Has anyone ever told you that you should be a comedian?” I exaggerated, slurring my words slightly.
“Yeah, I’ll keep that one in mind.” Jim mumbled sarcastically. He glanced around, noticing it was getting pretty late and the crowd was thinning out.
“Hey, Y/N, you have a ride?” He questioned.
“Well it was Ruby, but she went off to get laid. Can you believe her?” I scoffed, rolling my heavy-lidded eyes.
“Well I don’t want you heading home by yourself. Do you want me to take you home?” He queried.
“I’m perfectly capable of walking home by myself, thank you very much.” I tipped my chin up, speaking in a snooty manner as I crossed my arms.
“I know you are, but I think I’ll feel much better if you let me walk you home.” Jim insisted, placing the new can of beer I retrieved back into the cooler.
“Fiiiinnnneee, but only since you’re so cute!” I squeaked, booping my finger on the tip of his nose. He smiled as we began our walk back to my house.
We stopped at my door, staring at it as I waited for it to magically swing open.
“Oh wait, duh,” I facepalmed as I rung the doorbell, rocking back on my feet as I waited for someone to answer.
“I think you need a key, babe.” Jim chuckled, hardly controlling his laughter at the sight of my bewildered expression.
“Oh shoot! You’re right!” I rustled through my purse, pulling out my key ring and shuffling through the keys I had attached. “There’s so many, Jimmy. We might be out here for a little while, sorry.” I sniffled apologetically at him, my lips forming a pout.
“It’s okay, sweetheart. Here, I can help you find the right one,” He pried the ring from my grasp, biting his tongue to contain his amusement at my struggles. In his more sober eyes, he could only see 2 keys; a car key and a house key. “Why don’t we try this one?”
He handed me back the key that, to my surprise, unlocked the front door.
“Wow, Jimmy you’re so amazing! How did you find it so fast?” I gushed, my jaw dropping in amazement.
“Like I said, I’m pretty skilled at some things.” He winked at me, opening the door further to step inside. He helped me up the stairs and into my room where I unceremoniously flopped onto the bed.
“M’tired,” I groaned, relishing in the softness of the pillow against my aching head.
“I bet you are,” Jim said, slipping off my heels. “I don’t wanna overstep my boundaries, but would it be alright if I used your shower?”
“S’fine, Jimmy.” I moaned, my eyelids heavy as I curled up on top of the covers. “W-wait,” Jim stopped in his tracks, turning towards me.
“Cuddle me first?” I flashed my best puppy eyes at him. He grinned and made his way over to me.
“Here,” He stripped off his t-shirt and tossed it to me. “Take off your dress and put that on.” I got changed and slid underneath the sheets, the clarity I once had bleeding into exhaustion.
I laid my head on Jim’s chest, sighing at his warmth as he pulled me closer. I focused on his heart beat as he started speaking to stay awake and listen to what he had to say, but his words soon became a blur.
He looked down at me and smiled when he saw I was out cold, wrapped around him like a koala. “I’m definitely not getting a shower tonight.”
