Note
I just read your Knightfall fanfic and it is amazing! I absolutely loved the dialogue between Cinder and Jaune, as well as the descriptions of the settings/characters. The way you used, "scorched honey" to describe Cinder's eye was just perfect.
As for another theory parallel between Jaune and Cinder. The Relic of Choice was hinted to be at the Tower, the type of building Salem was trapped in originally until Ozma rescued her. What if Jaune rescued/redeemed Cinder from the tower in a sense which supports the reverse Salem/Ozma relationship. There's also the fact that Cinder's turning more Grimm, so while the start of Jaune/Cinder (not officially mind you, but kind of like the start of a relationship between the two) could be Cinder turning from (almost) Grimm back to human, Salem and Ozma's relationship continued while Salem turned into a Grimm. At least, that's what I got from the reverse Salem/Ozma tags. Thoughts?
T_T T_T T_T thank you so much for this ask, I'm glad you enjoyed it <3 <3 that's all a fanfic author wants in life <3 <3 (scorched honey line - I try to simplify my writing because I have a tendency for the verbose, but I can't help myself for the imagery lol - and I love the duplicity of it, burnt yet sweet, it just makes me think of everything perfect and complex about Cinder, anyway now I am just gazing into my own river reflection lolololol PLEASE I want to talk about these things without sounding up myself. I just love fanfic so much, because I can express how much I love these characters and story like this).
Re: the second part of your ask: you are absolutely right, and I actually find Beacon Tower's iconography highly suspicious (like, Ozpin's latest and greatest incarnation basically locked himself back up in there, and he was only 'freed' from it by Cinder, which allows Oscar to meet Ruby, which allows Ruby, on that rooftop, to unlock her silver eyes... it all comes back to towers, back to Salem when she was but a girl).
So in this respect Cinder and Ozpin have already played out more Salem/Ozma business. But I think it's still yet unfinished (especially because they did not have the correct dance partners yet), and wherever the Relic of Choice is hiding, I don't know, but I wonder if it's sentimental to Oz? If it were, I would have thought Salem would know, but maybe she's forgotten; the way the new generation reinvigorates these old ideas of soul, spirit, beauty, justice, redemption, by remembering the secret hiding spot, Jaune and Cinder retreading ground, I don't know, it's very suspicious and I love it. I think a significant event will take place there, especially as you brought to my attention the pronounced Indecisive King and the Relic of Choice parallels.
And yes you are absolutely bang on the money: Salem's Grimm corruption occurred after losing Ozma, and she has remained this way, whereas Cinder's purification (I use this in a purely ceremonial sense - I don't mean she's tainted) will occur after joining with Jaune. So these are reverse events: enemies to lovers, Grimm to human vs. lovers to enemies, human to Grimm (so structurally reflect one another as well). In my opinion. That is.
I also contend that Reverse Salem/Ozma is actually an overarching relationship theme of ALL major RWBY canon ships (particularly the theme of 'trust' - not just simply love), but Jaune/Cinder is actually the most on-paper obvious example and likely the most dramatic and one crucial in our most desperate hour (see: the Relic of Choice being the final Relic at large).
Err so like, any more ideas I have about this I have to be honest, I've saved for my fic LOL!!! But yeah I really think a proper Salem/Ozma parallels write-up is in order, I do have a secret Knightfall manifesto sitting in a Word Document but it's mostly unhinged colour theory. (I'm now reading this pseudoscientific book from the 19th century on chromatology and the power of the colour blue to give life to earth. It's bizarre. I love it).
But yes, one last thought which occurred to me, and mostly speculation: Cinder is perpetually 'stuck at midnight' (so on the nose: Evernight, Salem's home base), and the Tower is full of clocks and gears, and well, I don't know, the theming of time and towers is doing something for me lol. It is sort of poetic that that would be the moment 'time starts again': where Salem was first freed, where the story has been picked back up to be finished, since Salem's conflict has been exhaustive, drawn out, neverending.
Thank you for your lovely ask, you have no idea how excited I am talk about this ship <3333333

interdimensional Dads 4
Jaune:Who’s Next?
Jaune:Pick a number from one to a thousand.
Jaune:Since you married Yang it’s either 69
Jaune:Or 420, but because it you I’m gonna with 7
Jaune:Purple gets to go.
Jaune:....Oh did you- oh I see. That’s stupid. I like how he got the answer but it’s stupid.
Jaune:Hate to break it to you all but I can already tell that I’m probably the least interesting here. My Remnant doesn’t have anything crazy going on.
Jaune: Lucky you. We just wanna relax.
Jaune:Hehe, anyways I started dating Blake when we were at Beacon. Well I guess technically we didn’t date but we went on a lot of dates because we liked similar things. Music, tea, some books.
Jaune:Filth!
Jaune:*red* It’s been called that, yes. It’s something nice to bond over.
Jaune:Bond over, or bind over?
Jaune:I’m surprised you didn’t say bondage over.
Jaune:So scandalous. How grown of you.
Jaune:What would your dear parents think? Oh the shock!
Jaune:Why am I the one getting picked on!? You guys would literally find a similar interest in it!
Jaune:We know, it’s just funny seeing you red. Please continue.
Jaune:I can’t imagine the trip around the world was dramatically different. Reuniting with Blake was super comforting. We finally started officially dating after she scared me half to death at Argus. After beating Salem I decided to go with her back home after visiting my folks. Her parents were stunned to see yet another blonde-
Jaune:Sun or Yang?
Jaune:Both...you see, they new Sun for obvious reasons. Yang was a little more....how to put it?
Jaune:....She was in love with her too, wasn’t she?
A strange feeling of guilt and sadness filled the air.
Jaune:Yang and Blake were always pretty close, more so than with me in certain aspects. They were partners so of course it would be like amd with all the stuff that happened between them since Beacon, Yang falling in love with her was so easy to see. It wasn’t like it was one sided either, but those aspects, the knitty gritty hardships they shared? Sometimes sharing all that history makes it hard to have a normal relationship. So Yang took it pretty rough when we officially got together.
Jaune:That must’ve been a rough pill to swallow.
Jaune:It definitely was awkward at first l and a little bit of animosity. But eventually overtime it got better, until it didn’t... Blake and I had a kid. Our quiet little Lucas. Yang never out right said anything but having him and seeing us, me have a life with Blake brought sadness along with whatever happiness she did have for us. So she barely visits; she’s still kind when does though but it’s hard not to see that she would rather be somewhere else.
Jaune:Damn that’s....that’s rough. I couldn’t imagine my life without Yang. She’s practically my best friend at this point; always there to pick me up.
Jaune:Yeah she’s been a real life saver for me too.
Jaune:She’s my wife so it goes without saying that a world where she doesn’t want to be around me or Blake for that matter is pretty crazy. Do you at least have Ruby, Weiss, Ren and Nora?
Jaune:Yeah they’re around doing their own thing and we take turns visiting. Ruby tried to act like a bridge between us and Yang and it works for the most part. It’s rough but not as rough as it sounds. But any who, I guess I should talk about Lucas now.
Jaune:Before that, I couldn’t help but notice that you sound a little more...proper than the rest of us.
Jaune:*red* I’m always running into some important faunus that meets with Blake about equal rights stuff. It’s very weird being the only human around sometimes so I try extra hard not to say anything dumb. Don’t you have to meet with wealthy people a bunch?
Jaune:Yeah. They no better than to give me a hard time, or Weiss will kill them. They are very aware of the name ice queen.
Jaune:Ah.....Weiss. *smiles*
Jaune:So joe is your kid? I bet he’s as driven as his mother!
Jaune:*puts head on table* That boy has zero motivation! If you don’t bother him then he’ll lay around all day and sleep like a....well like a cat!
Jaune:Yikes...
Jaune:To be fair, I understand why. His semblance shows him various glimpses of the future that he’s never been able to complete control. Sometimes it activates without warning so it’s not uncommon for him to know something coming up. Poor guy can’t even finish a book sometimes without seeing his future self reading the ending.
Jaune:No wonder he has not motivation. The spice of life is being spoiled for him!
Jaune:Lucas is such a bright kid, a little bit awkward at times but he’s kind too. It’s a real bummer to see him in this constant slump. It’s not small things that get spot either. There are times he’s seen accidents happen and could do nothing to stop it, or the vision was so vague he didn’t know what was going on until it was too late. The world becomes pretty anxiety inducing if all you see is potential accidents.
Jaune:Potential?
Jaune:Yeah, it’s possible to avoid his visions. They aren’t set in stone by any means. He’s seen me beat him up in sparring and then didn’t show up. He’s walked out into the ocean before out of nowhere and speared a barracuda that he says “would’ve been bothersome later.” A family went swimming later on in that area. Still wish he went outside just to smell the roses though.
Jaune:Sounds frustrating, I feel for him. I don’t think my mind could function.
Jaune: I don’t think his is if he’s becoming a shut in. Maybe therapy or something? What does Blake think about all of this?
Jaune:Blake can convince him more than I can to move around more consistently. She’s always checking in out of nowhere and making sure both of us are doing well. This girl video chatted one time just to see if anything done anything fun, then forced us to find something fun to do if we haven’t. She knows if we’re left alone then we start stewing in our own thoughts way too much.
Jaune:That’s actually really sweet.
Jaune:I know! I can’t believe that’s my wife! We call her to make sure she takes a break from work or else she’ll work through lunch. We are basically tripping and picking each other up, it’s such a weird mess hehehe. That’s family though. It gets a little tense but nothing we can’t handle. Especially Lucas, I got a feeling his slump is about to turn into a rollercoaster.
Jaune:What makes you say that?
Jaune:Well....
xxxx
On a sunny day in menagerie a beautiful young girl looks up at the sky with complete serenity and wonder. It’s so blue, so simple, yet so fulfilling.
“You ever look at the sky and just wish you could touch it?” Her gaze drops to in front of her to see a very unamused Lucas.
“No, no I don’t.”
“That’s too bad. Are you more of a deep blue see guy or...”
“What are you doing?”
“Trying to know my bodyguard.”
“Still not your bodyguard.” He groaned. “Can you focus on not moving. I have three shots at this.”
“I bet you’ll get it right first try, no pressure.”
Lucas’s eye twitched as the girl gave him a big smile in her frayed harness, fifty feet from the ground. The boy angled his feet on the unsecured steel beam just enough to distribute his weight evenly.
“You and I have very different viewpoints on tense situations...” He slowly leaned forward with his hands stretched out. “Grab my hands at the same time.”
“Is it bad I wanna know what happens if I don’t?”
Her question was meant with stressful silence and anxious looks that only made her smile. “Just kidding, I can’t grab your hands at the same time when they’re trembling. Lighten up a little.”
“You do know this is your life right now?”
“Yeah I know. Hey, you single?”
That came out of nowhere. He folded his ears, flustered and confused. “What does that have to do with-”
The girl suddenly grabbed his hands. “Boom, you stopped trembling. That’s what I call team-” the harness snapped. The feeling of complete weightlessness took her for a moment before gravity came to pull her down. It was in that second Lucas yanked her close, her body in his arms.
He slowly slid backwards onto sturdy ground and then felt a strong breeze that was more than enough to sever the beam from the rest. The girl gasped.
“The workers!”
“Don’t worry.” He looked over the edge to see all of them far away and the beam falling right into their massive pile of dirt he told them to put down. Lucas let out a long sigh before looking at the girl.
She raised her eyebrow. “You haven’t answered my question yet.”
He groaned again. Go for a walk they said. It would do you some good they said. Now I’m dealing with this.
“I’m single.”
“Cool, I’m not.” She giggled.
“.....” He slowly nodded. “I should drop you.”
“But you won’t.”
“Sadly....”

Firen Lhain: Chapter 002: Difference
Firen Lhain: Chapter 002: Difference
Jaune bumped his antlers on the sloping roof of the airship. He bent over, tried to stand up, and did it once again. He stayed bent over this time. "Airships weren't designed for antlers. This is discrimination!" He looked about the airship, as everyone seemed to be avoiding his gaze, when the airship shifted. "And now I think I'm going to be sick."
* * *
Jaune ran past Ruby and Yang before throwing up in the next compartment. Yang walked towards him until she stepped in some of it, and stepped back.
"Oh, Yang, gross." Ruby said to her sister, "You have puke on your shoe."
"Gross-gross-gross-gross..." Jaune uttered to himself.
"Get away from me!" Ruby shouted at him, "Get away from me; get away from me!"
* * *
Jaune rushed out of the airship to vomit in the nearest garbage can.
* * *
Jaune looked about the school, completely unsure of where to go, when an explosion went off. "Was that an explosion?" Jaune asked, as he looked around. Everyone was still avoiding his gaze. Well, great way to make a first impression. No one seemed to be paying attention to the explosion, but he could hear girls shouting, and so walked over. When he approached he found a wolf girl on her knees, seemingly as depressed as he was. That wasn't right. No one should be as depressed as he is. "Hey." he said, and offered her his hand. "I'm Jaune."
"I'm Ruby." she said, as he helped her to her feet. "Aren't you the guy who threw up on the ship?" she asked, and then looked as if she immediately regretted it.
* * *
The two of them walked together down the paths of Beacon. "I'll I'm saying is that motion sickness is a lot more common problem then people let on."
"Look," she quickly replied, "I'm sorry. Vomit boy was the first thing that came to mind."
"Oh, yeah, what if I called you craterface?" he asked, and then immediately regretted it. 'Smoothe.' he thought to himself.
"Hey!" Ruby replied, energized... but not incensed, "that explosion was an accident."
'How adorable can she get?' Jaune thought to himself.
The two awkardly looked at each other. "So?," Ruby asked, and pulled out Crescent Rose, which quickly expanded into a scythe over her shoulder.
"Is... that a scythe?.." Jaune nervously asked.
"It's also a high impact sniper rifle." Ruby said, craddling the weapon with a proud smile on her face.
"Hm?.." Jaune asked.
"It's also a gun." Ruby replied.
"Oh..." Jaune grumbled. "That's cool."
"So, what have you got?" Ruby asked, and Jaune reached to his waist to pull out Crocea Mors, first the sword.
"I've got a sword." he said, and then expanded his shield, "and a shield."
"What does it do?" Ruby asked, and tapped the shield. It jumped from his hand, and he chased it as it bounced around. Once he retrived it, he tried to enter a fighting stance.
"The shield gets smaller." Jaune stated. "So, when I get tired of carrying it, I can just... put it away..."
"Wouldn't it weight the same?" Ruby asked.
"Yeah... it does..." he groaned.
"Well, I'm kind of a dork when it comes to weapons." she said with a smile, "I guess I did go a little overboard when designing her."
"Wait?," he asked, "you made it?"
"Yes?" she asked, "All students at Signal forged their own weapons. Didn't you make yours?"
"It's... a hand-me-down..." he quietly voiced, "my great-great-grandfather used it to fight in the war."
"Sounds more like a family heirloom to me." Ruby nervously but loving said. "Well I like it. Not many people have an appreciation for the classics these days."
"I like your wolf tail." Jaune said, and Ruby wagged it.
"It does... sometimes... get me in trouble..."
"Pfft." he replied, "Trouble?, you?"
"I-do-sometimes-chase-it," she eagerly said, "I mean... I can't believe I told you that..."
"I promise not to tell anyone." Jaune said to her.
"I like your antlers." she said to him, "They're really cool."
"You - have no idea - how often - they get caught on things..."
"But... they're like weapons... that are always with you." Ruby eagerly said to him.
"Okay, yeah..." Jaune replied, "but they're actually kind of fragile."
Ruby grabbed as his antlers and tugged on them. "They could totally hold my weight."
Jaune looked at her for a moment before replying, "Okay, but you have to balance your weight on both of them."
Ruby grabbed onto his antlers, and hung there, starring into his eyes.
Jaune nervously lowered her to the ground and she let go.
"So, why'd you help me out back there..." Ruby asked him, "in the courtyard."
"Ehn, why not?" Jaune asked, "My mother always said that strangers are just friends you haven't met yet."
"Hm." Ruby replied with a subtle smile, "Hey, where are we going?"
"Oh?," Jaune asked, "I don't know, I was following you."
* * *
Jaune awkwardly stood in the auditorium, looking around. 'uh-huh.' he thought to himself, 'we're all going to be great huntsmen someday.' He then heard the voice of an angel,
"like tall, blond, and antlered over there."
Jaune looked over to see Ruby, glowing and adorable in her own light, standing next to an angel in Human form.
* * *
Jaune walked through the locker room trying to find his locker. He genuinely did not remember counting that high, and paused with a start. He saw her, his angel, and he walked up to her, holding out his hand.
Weiss' skin flushed, first dark blue, then light, then the two contrasting against each other. She breathed in deep and the flush dissipated. He looked at her questioningly. "It's my Semblance." she firmly, if indecisively stated.
Jaune still held his hand out to her.
"He wants you to shake it." Blake said as she walked passed.
"Ah?" Weiss asked, and then after a moment lent him her hand.
"Jaune. Jaune Arc."
"Weiss Schnee." she said as she shook his hand. "How can I help you, Mr. Arc?"
"It's just, you look like a Snow Angel..." Jaune voiced, and Weiss' body flushed dark blue once again.
"I will thank you very much to not refer to me as such!"
"Hello, again." the woman said, and Jaune turned to look at the Flamingo Faunus.
"Well, hello." Jaune replied, and smiled at her.
"Do you have any idea who this is?!" Weiss ascerbically asked him.
"No idea." He said to Pyrrha, and held out his hand, which she nervously took. "Jaune Arc."
"And I'm Pyrrha Nikos."
"That's it?!" Weiss asked, "Is that all you have to say?!"
"I'm sorry?" Jaune asked, genuinely confused.
"She won the Mistral regional tournament four years in a row?!" Weiss asked.
"Congratulations." Jaune said to her.
"Thank you." Pyrrha replied with genuine warmth.
"But he..." Weiss said.
"Yes?" Jaune asked.
"How do you not know who Pyrrha Nikos is?!" Weiss asked, and Jaune turned to Pyrrha.
"I would like to get to know her." he said, and Pyrrha blushed and turned to look away. The blush looked beautiful when mixed with her firey colouration. Jaune then turned back to Weiss, who was largely a deep, dark, royal blue at the moment. "How about you?"
Weiss just scoffed and fumed in reply.
"You don't want to team up?" Jaune asked, and then turned to Pyrrha. "How about you?"
"I do believe they are four-person teams." Pyrrha said to him, and he turned back to Weiss. The Dark Blue was mixing and contrasting with light blue, and the more he looked at her, the more it looked like plummage.
"Pyrrha, a little help please?" Weiss asked, and Pyrrha threw her spear. Within a moment Jaune found himself stuck to a wall.
"Well..." he voiced to himself, "let's not pretend this is the first time this has happened..."
Pyrrha then walked up to him, grabbing her spear, "It was nice meeting you."
"Likewise." Jaune sighed.
* * *
Jaune once again found himself pinned by Pyrrha's spear. This time, however, it was to save him from plummeting to his doom in the forest full of Grimm. "Thank you!" he shouted.
"I'm sorry!" Pyrrha faintly cried in the distance.
* * *
Ruby ran through the forest on all fours, using her tail to balance against her movements, 'Gotta find Yang,' she thought, 'gotta find Yang,' her thoughts repeated, "Yang!" she cried, repeating it as it echoed into the forest. 'Oh, this is really bad.' she though to herself, 'what if I can't find her? Okay, there's always Jaune. He's nice. He's funny, if a bit quiet. But so am I... unless I rambled on... I mean... Buuut... I don't think he's very good in a fight. Oh!, what about Blake? So mysterious, so calm. She likes books?! But then again I'm not sure I'd be able to hold a conversation with her.' Ruby shook her head. 'Okay, who else do I know in this school?.. Yang - Jaune - Blake - ... annnd?' she thought, as she bowled over Weiss, turning around to look at her.
"You?!." Weiss exclaimed to her, and turned around with a huff to walk away.
* * *
Weiss... elegantly... walked... through the woods... the sticky... dirty... filthy woods... until she found Jaune stuck to a tree. With this she huffed and turned away, Jaune only having enough time to wave and sigh.
* * *
Weiss grabbed Ruby by her tail and tugged her away. "By no means does this make us friends."
"You came back!" exclaimed with glee.
* * *
Pyrrha walked up to Jaune stuck in the tree and shyly looked up at him. "Hey, wait!" he shouted, "Come back! Who's going to get me down from here?!"
"Jaune?" Pyrrha asked, "Do you... have any spots left on your team?", and he simply sighed.
* * *
"Do you think this was a good idea?" Pyrrha nervously asked, walking behind him in the darkness of the tunnel.
"I've got eyeshine, so I can see just fine." Jaune replied, before hitting his antlers on the ceiling and falling backwards.
"Are you quite alright?!" Pyrrha asked, and reached towards him, but he caught her hand.
"Thank you, but the antlers are dangerous. If I didn't have aura I would have broken them." Jaune then sighed in the darkness.
* * *
Jaune was flung by a Deathstalker passed Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang, and a prone.
"Oh, good," Yang said, "the gang's all here; now we can die together."
"Not if I can help it." Ruby replied, and charged forward on all fours. She stood on her legs just long enough to draw Crescent Rose and launch herself at the Deathstalker.
* * *
Notes: This is a "the same, but different" AU. the story follows it's own path, but unless otherwise contradictory, it unfolds as it does in RWBY proper. As for Jaune, his dialogue is trimmed because he has a quietness inherited from his Faunus/Hart side.
