Eyesight/Glasses Headcanons:
⋆ Saki wears eyeglasses for double vision and farsightedness to help her with reading.
⋆ Honami is nearsighted and wears glasses primarily. She also has a lazy eye that she was really self conscious about for a long time.
⋆ Haruka wears contacts (the idol business she was with pressured her to start wearing contacts) for nearsightedness. She sometimes uses her prescription glasses for disguises and encouraged Shizuku to do the same with a fake pair.
⋆ Kohane started wearing contacts to school when she switched up her look for VBS, but after gaining more confidence and feeling like she fit in on Vivid Street a bit more, she went back to wearing glasses when VBS wasn’t performing.
⋆ Toya has really bad vision and pretty much always wears contacts and carries cheap reading glasses. Akito teased him about being an old man once but he took one look through Toya’s bifocals and was like “damn dude, you live like this?” (I also headcanon he has slight heterochromia to match his hair color, and the lighter eye has even worse vision.)
⋆ Tsukasa is slightly farsighted but doesn’t care. He got glasses in like middle school and chooses not to wear them.
⋆ Nene wears contacts for being farsighted. She’s not too bad but it gets a step worse every time she gets checked. So sometimes she finds randomly contacts that are like 2/3 prescriptions old that she stuffed in a bag/case and forgot about.
⋆ Kanade is nearsighted and has astigmatism lbut doesn’t know. She just assumes that it’s normal and it’s not bad enough that she can’t see her computer screen, she just won’t be able to read it if she were across the room.
⋆ Mafuyu also has pretty poor vision like Toya, but just that they’re super nearsighted. They wear a mix of contacts and glasses so they only wear contacts when they’re exercising/doing archery.
(Also all of the contact wearers wear dailies because they are the superior form of contacts!)

It still feels really weird sometimes, with my eyes having very different focal lengths after that damned surgery, where I can actually see reasonably clearly. Especially when something I'm trying to focus on falls into the no man's land in between them.
On one hand, I am still extremely glad to have at least one eye working again at just about any distance, after I thought the vision was just totally gone in the one. But, they still fucked up more than a little with the one-sided lens replacement, correcting that one to very slight farsightedness (but otherwise "can read road signs OK without glasses"), while the other stayed well into the "severe nearsightedness" category.
We're talking a difference of around 7.5 diopters between them. At least the degree of astigmatism shouldn't have changed with the lens swap.
It also still feels strange not wearing glasses, for the first time since I was 8 or 9. (Only because they couldn't optically correct the vision in only one eye without giving me over-and-under double vision. It was a strange experience at the optician's when I tried to get set up with new glasses, I tell you what.)
And I still haven't managed to try to get contacts yet, to find out if that does actually work better optically. There's just been too much going on to keep me at least half overwhelmed, and the mobility problems really haven't helped get me out for that.
So yeah, only seeing very well with one eye at a time (depending on the distance) has been pretty annoying day to day. But, I really notice it when I'm trying to focus on something=like reading-at any distance between "at arm's length" and "6 inches from my nose".
(The eyestrain headaches are another matter, and not what I just got impressed by again while trying to focus on a book. Though, thankfully that situation has also improved since I did get some kind of vision back in that eye. Still not a great situation with such different vision between them, but luckily a pretty huge improvement in terms of strain from only one side registering more than light or dark.)

My dad told me the wildest shit the other day. He has astigmatism and pretty significant nearsightedness in both eyes (like me, except one eye is farsighted and the other nearsighted, tf). His started when he was 16, whereas I started needing glasses for a pretty light Rx when I was 31.
He said that he has maintained the exact same Rx for the past 25 YEARS (he is now 64). I asked him if that's normal, and if he's ever noticed that his Rx isn't strong enough anymore. He said that for the first 20 years he needed to trade up every 1 or 2 years, so he'd get yearly eye exams and new glasses when the eye doc recommended it. But then he started getting nervous that he would eventually just go blind at that rate.
So you know what this fucking man did? One year after the eye doctor wrote him a new Rx, he just refused it. Asked the doctor to just renew his old one. The doctor refused, saying it was "unsafe". He finds a new doctor, who agrees to just renew his old Rx even though he was testing slightly worse than what it was.
Then he just...continued to wear his old prescription. When he needed new glasses for wear and tear, he would just get new ones with the same strength. He did say that for a while it felt like his glasses weren't giving him ideal vision, but it was tolerable. And then one day he claims his eyes just... Got used to it. The fuck?
He goes without glasses when doing mundane shit around the house. Says it keeps his eyes strong. And continues to this day to use the same strength of glasses from his 40s. This man literary looked (lol) at his poor vision and said, "That's enough, bitch. We're staying right here."

Oh to finally have some new lens after three years!! Didn’t realize how terribly blurry my eyesight’s become with my old prescription until I left the house for the first time in several months and I was unable to read anything more than five meters away from me 😬
In other news I saw a sleeping cat while I was out and almost cried, it has been too long since I last held one :(( just wanna give one a kith on her head and sniff

I don't have any intention of getting a driver's licence and everyone around me thinks if i just got lessons I could drive but
My visual processing speed is very slow. If objects are moving too fast relative to me I straight up can't see them, not ideal when everything is moving fast
I have astigmatism + nearsightedness but don't qualify for a new glasses prescription
I become exhausted if i sit up for an extended period of time
I faint if I get stressed out or overwhelmed
And I also have what might be seizures where I am fully conscious but for a few seconds I state into space and my body kind of freezes like I'm a deactivated robot.
So I know not to bother. For everyone's safety I shouldn't be driving any vehicle that weighs much more than a person or moves faster than a light jogging speed. This is the main thing keeping me from renting a powerchair
based on that infamous post, y’know the one

Finding out the alternative of Frequency 55
Contact lenses provide the option of not wearing spectacles and are worn for problems in eyes and eyesight, like nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia, astigmatism, etc. They may be worn after cataract surgery. They are placed directly on the eye. They float above the cornea on a film of tears.
Tumblr media
For many years, one of my favorite contact lenses was Frequency 55. But after Frequency 55 discontinued, it was a real struggle for me to find out the alternative contact lens of it. It took me too much time to get a suitable one for me. However, after a lot of researches and reading so many reviews, I have finally got some of my favorite options. In this article, I am going to discuss what I have got to know about the contact lens in my researches.
Contact lenses are two types basically, but overall, we take only one as hard contact lenses, while the other is considered a separate category altogether. Conventional hard contacts are made of Polymethyl Methacrylate and are also known as PMMA lenses. While rigid-gas permeable lenses are more comfortable of the two, they aren't precisely called as hard lenses; the name is used only for PMMA.
These are suitable in only a few conditions. They are much more difficult to wear and carry. They need to be handled with care as they can slide out of their place at a pressure lower than in other kinds of lenses. It usually takes longer to get used to them than soft contacts.
Hard contact lenses or the PMMA are made of polymethyl methacrylate and carry two huge drawbacks. One is that it is very difficult to get used to wearing them. Because they're so hard, it is very difficult to wear them regularly and to get used to wearing them.
The second problem is that they don't allow oxygen to reach the eyes. It, therefore, causes the vision to blur, the cornea to swell a bit. The condition is called the scratched cornea. The scratched cornea is a very painful condition and requires the user to stop using the lenses for some time until the problem diffuses a bit.
Certain precautions must be taken when using contacts, especially hard contacts. Regular and thorough cleaning is a must. Proper storing is also as important. Also, one must not use home-made saline solutions, but only commercially prepared sterile solutions to clean and store them. In case of any eye trouble, like unexplained eye discomfort, redness, swelling, watering eyes, or vision change, it's imperative one rushes to the doctor immediately to avoid any major trouble.
After considering the above factors, I have finally got one best replacement for Frequency 55.

re: blurry lights post: it's not a 100% indicator but yeah, you may have astigmatism. a tweet like that got me to go to an optometrist and I have glasses now
I have glasses and get regular checkups, but never have been diagnosed with astigmatism. I think nearsightedness can cause it as well

Eyeball update, after the surgery on 28 June.
It's looking even less disturbing now! Obviously still some redness, but nothing near "fucked-up SFX sclera lens" level gnarly anymore. Still feeling a little irritated, but not too bad now. I'm near the end of the prescribed course of steroid drops, but may also try some OTC "artificial tears" type lubricating ones. Apparently it's not at all unusual to need them for a while after a lens replacement, and that may help explain the irritation now.
The last initially unplanned followup late last week was just for a quick pressure check, which could thankfully be done at the clinic here in Malmö where I've been going for the laser zap-zap. We didn't need to go back to the surgical clinic in Lund for that--though, I don't guess I blame them for not wanting to just send patients home with one of their little handheld pressure gauges and instructions to update them on the numbers. 😅 As much as I would have preferred that option.
The pressure was still holding at just about the same as the good eye! So, I don't need to go back (to Lund again this time!) until the already scheduled roughly one month followup the first week of August. Then, assuming things are still looking OK? I should finally be done with the eye surgery clinic! 🥳
As a bonus, the eye surgeon on the last trip there also commented on what a good job they'd apparently done on my retinas. So, yay?
Best of all, though? I am actually seeing pretty damned well again! Except for a little bit of hopefully temporary distortion and a few annoying black dot floaters that my brain keeps telling me are gnats way too close to my face. The bit of wavy weirdness is likely down to some lingering inflammation, from what I have read. It would be totally liveable if it stuck around.
The weird and fairly sickening dark gas bubble "my head is now a spirit level" effect finally totally went away a few days ago. I have been sort of hoping that the little round gnat dots are just detached smaller bubbles, but if so they've been stubborn ones. No further apparent change there. But, again, totally liveable worst case.
(Also? The constant freaking migraine is no longer constant! *fingers crossed*)
And, of course my existing glasses prescription is totally wack for that eye now. It's honestly freaky as hell, in a way. Brand spanking new aftermarket lens inside, suddenly less nearsightedness than it's probably been since I first got glasses as a kid. That eye is now slightly farsighted, if anything. Hard to tell yet about the astigmatism.
There is no good distance to look at anything clearly with both eyes at the same time--with or without the glasses on--so, I've basically just been choosing one permutation there depending on what I do need to focus on. Hoping they will decide ASAP that things have settled down enough for a new prescription to stay stable for a while!
(I would be absolutely fine to drive with working glasses right now, btw. That was honestly one of my biggest hopes out of this mess.)
But yeah, I wasn't necessarily that optimistic going in. Have thankfully turned out very pleasantly surprised so far! *fingers crossed* More win than I was hoping for, tbh.

Teachers: why is your handwriting so bad/why do you always write with abbreviations
Me, a teenager who thinks having your hands swell up/become too sore and stiff to use if you do fine motor tasks like writing or drawing for more than like an hour is normal: is this a trick question
~~~
Friendly guy in mountaineering club who had to catch me after I just blacked out and slumped over with no warning: ???
Me: no this just happens some times
Other people in mountaineering club: :( ???
~~~
Me before I got sunglasses walking around outside while only about to see about 1 metre of the ground in front of my feet and nothing else because it's too bright for me to look up (or have my eyes open for more than quick one second flashes) without being blinded: this is kind of inconvenient but summer=being blind I guess
~~~
Me after my kneecap dislocated, I started screaming like I was being stabbed, fell to the ground, shoved it back into place, got up and resumed whatever I was doing like nothing happened: whoops, just a thing that happens sometimes
Family/friends/passerby: ???!!!
~~~
Me leaving class and lying in the school recovery room with my eyes closed because I got another debilitating headache for the 3rd time that week: inconvenient but this is just a thing that happens sometimes I guess
~~~
Me talking to my sister who is about to be diagnosed with nearsightedness and astigmatism: bro everyone sees streaks of light and haloes emanating from any given light source. Seeing so many that you can't see the scaffolding attaching the Christmas lights to the the street lights is weird though
~~~
Classmate who nearly had a heart attack after I tapped them on the shoulder or waved a hand in front of their face to get their attention because speaking loudly is physically painful for me: why did you sneak up on me???
Me who is constantly tracking and processing every bit of background noise and has keys and stationery in my pocket that I perceive to be pretty loud: ?
I wish they taught a class on what being a normal human is like
Like, the normal amount of pain is zero. The normal amount of wishing you weren’t ever born is zero. Food isn’t supposed to itch or hurt*. Going numb (any time outside sitting in one position too long) isn’t normal. Passing out isn’t normal. Normal people take like 10-20 minutes to fall asleep, and sleep like 6-9 hours. You’re supposed to get one period a month, which is manageable with a few tampons or pads a day and lasts 3-6 days.
These are all things I had to find out later, like a moron.
(fibromyalgia, depression, allergies, cataplexy, narcolepsy, PCOS and endometriosis)
*spicy food is supposed to hurt?

I received my lenses today (July 3rd) so I can finally make my own glasses (well... I didn't "make" them 'cause the frame's already done and stuff but... you get what I mean...).
I'll pass the boring stuff about the measurement (mostly because I didn't think to take pictures for most of the process and it can get confusing) but basically we use a machine that 'scans' the shape of the frame (by using a sort of needle that goes inside a sort of dent that goes throughout the rim of the glasses, thanks to which the lens”holds” withing the rim) and then we put our measurements and the details of the prescription in it.
Tumblr media
(this is a picture from one of my tests, that's why it's graded) This is the Boxing System, it's pretty much a size measurement system. The Boxing System or Box Measurement is basically about measuring a frame in millimeters by inserting it withing a Box. While Opticians don't use the B and C measurement (the C measurement isn’t even on there, but it’s the diagonal), A and D (D is often called DBL in English) are still very in use as they usually indicate the "size" of the glasses, you'll find it on most eye-wear arms before another number which usually represents the length of the arm. Here's mine:
Tumblr media
This size is often indicated by two numbers separated by a small box indicating the A measurement and the D one. (Basically if you do (2 x A measurement) + D Measurement you get the width of your glasses, here it’d be 53*2 + 15). Adults often wear glasses with a 50+ A measurement (though it depends on the D measurement, but the more common are between 16 and 18 mm).   My previous glasses were 52 □ 16 aka 52*2 +16 which means they were 1 mm smaller overall but they didn’t fall on the bridge of my nose as well as this one (they were also semi rimmed so they looked smaller).
The crossing points of the crosses are where your pupils should be in theory (usually if the frame was well chosen, it works for their height measurement and the machine can usually calculates it unless it's for progressive for which you have to do it yourself by pointing the pupils on the glasses and then measuring from that point to the bottom of the lens). The pupil distance (PD) is the distance between those two points, though because most people aren't symmetrical we (opticians) usually prefer to measure the distance between each pupil and the middle of the D measurement (you'll understand when I show you the workshop sheet).
So we do that and then we put the uncut lens (I think it's called blank in english, but i’ll stick to uncut lens) in the machine which calculates the 'prescription' mostly by using the bend radius of the lens (this is a very strong summary ok so it’s kinda how it works but also kinda not) and then the machine sticks the small plastic thingie where the pupil should be so the other machine can edge the lens around it (yes, I got tired of sorting through the glossaries I found online).
Tumblr media
this isn't what all workshop sheets look like because it mostly depends on the software you use but I find this one to be very practical as it follows the frames when they're placed the way this one is (basically the right is on the left, so you can literally just put the lens on its side of the sheet and never fear you've somehow mixed them, very helpful when you have anxiety like mine). On this pic you get the right eye cut lens (it still has water on it) on your left and left eye uncut lens (the way we receive it) on your right. Generally these sheets will have all the data you need like the measurement and the prescription data as well as the name of the lens you ordered (usually the name indicates the index, the material, whether it's a unifocal or progressive (among other things), the coating as well as the laboratory/brand making them, here the laboratory is written below).
Tumblr media
this is the side of my uncut lens. The material is CR-39... which is the most common material nowadays. It's a 1.6 index lens which means it has been thinned compared to the basic lens you can get. Now this index is actually one of the best because the ones above don't have the same quality of sight (well 1.67 is still rather l good) while the ones below are a bit more fragile. But my eyesight's starting to get pretty bad so even if it's been thinned out it's not that thin (which is one of the advantages of plastic frames as they are rather thick in general).
Tumblr media
This is me trying to place the bevel (pink line) at the best place on the lens so that the lens will fit the frame as esthetically as possible. It's especially useful with thick lenses; This is for the left eye and, as you can see the outside is a lot thicker than the inside, it’s because i have of my astigmatism and its axis. The Bevel is an edge surrounding the lens used to fit the lens within the frame which has a sort of dent within the rim for that purpose. Then we press the green arrow (yes i know the irony as a DC reader) to get the edging of the lens started.
Then we do a few things like counter-bevels to make sure the lens isn't dangerous and finally we can verify that the lens was well mounted in the frame (mostly for progressives and people who have an astigmatism).
Tumblr media
you can see here that the data on the machine (called a frontofocometer) for the right lens is the same as the one on the sheet (off by two degrees but usually it doesn't matter if it's off by less than 5 degrees especially for very low astigmatism like mine because these things aren't always the most precise).
Tumblr media
Here are the main information you can get on a worksheet. everything that's barred in yellow is the client's personal information (mine's mostly empty because I didn't order my lenses/frame the normal way since I got them for free, one of the perks of the job).
1. basic information : who did the file and when (the little number above is how many files are currently being done which is very useful when you don't know whether there are other glasses waiting to be done or if there might be contact lenses that go with it or some other thing).
2. usually indicates the price before and after the health insurance covered the glasses (we usually call it equipment ;;;dunno if it’s the same in english) so that you can know how much your client will have to pay after you created a specific file on their website (the price barred here is how much I'd have had to pay with my insurance's cut already cut prices if I couldn't use my job perks because some health insurances get  prices cuts with some laboratories for their clients). It's very useful when it's Saturday or between 6pm and 7pm and your software decides to stop working....
3. specifies if the glasses are for near sight or far sight or “others” (such as progressives). Because I have myopia/am nearsighted, mine will always be either for far sight or "others”since I can't see clearly further than ~20-30 cm in front of me However hyperopia/farsightedness can require either a farsighted vision equipment or a nearsighted one (or progressives which is basically a combination of both) so it's pretty useful in those cases because it impacts on which pupil distance you'll use.
4. This is the data used when ordering the lens.
4.0. OD or OG means Oeil Droit and Oeil Gauche aka Right Eye and Left Eye. If I remember correctly OD is the same but the left eye is called OS? I'm not sure why...probably latin
4.1 This is the Sphere aka how bad your eyesight is, it's measured in diopters. If you calculate 1÷sphere, you get the furthest point at which you can see clearly (in meters)... it's a lot more easy to understand for nearsightedness because for far sightedness it gets hypothetical. but basically 1÷(-3.75)=-0.26666666m aka -26.67cm aka -266.67mm. It’s not the exact one because the distance between your eye and the lens as well as the fact that lenses only go from 0.25 to 0.25 are taken into account when deciding the sphere, but the difference is almost nonexistent.
4.2. this is the cylinder. If you have this, it means you have an astigmatism. It means your cornea is not the same size at a 90° difference so you actually have two different spheres in one eye (which can explain the difference in thickness on just one lens) and you see reality deformed (aka you'll see a soccer ball like a rugby one). This number indicates the difference between both spheres. To continue with the right eye example, I have a +0.25 astigmatism (which is the lowest form of astigmatism, honestly it's almost non-existent here) so to get the other sphere you have to do very basic maths : - 3.75+0.25= - 3.50 diopters (1÷-3.5=285.71mm so 28.57cm of vision at most).
4.3 this is the axis of your astigmatism. it basically indicates in which direction the reality is deformed so the lens can correct it. As said above 99% of the time the difference will be a 90° difference (out of 180). Here the right eye would be :
-3.75 (+0.25) 95° <--> - 3.50 (-0.25) 5°
while the left eye will be :
-4.50 (+0.50) 80° <--> - 4.00 (-0.50) 170°
Tumblr media
this is my prescription. As you can see it matches. Now English prescriptions often put the astigmatism before the sphere but you end up reading it the same way so who cares.
-> for progressives there is usually a number added after those like +1.00, it means that you add +1.00 to your farsight sphere to get the nearsight one.
4.4 this is the name of the lens. Here it's from Essilor which is a french manufacturer of lenses. I think it's one of the most popular (they invented the progressive) and it's one of the best. It doesn't mean it's the best, there are others like Seiko which are very good, we just happen to have a contract with them. So I'll use this as an example of how the name of a lens can indicate its composition.
Ormix : here it indicates both the material and the index of the lens (depending on the manufacturer the index can be placed after). Essilor's lens created from the CR-39 material (aka plastic) are called Orma (index = 1.50), Ormix (1.60), Stylis (1.67) and Lineis (1.74). So Ormix indicates that the material used is CR-39 and its index is 1.6 (those are linked to how the lens filters the (white) light, to the lens' mass, its thickness, ect...)
EPS means the blue light coating isn't actually a coating but that it's embedded in the lens. You can usually find it on progressives or photochromic/transition lenses.
TB means Transition Brown which is why the lens is colored. Transition lenses are photochromic lenses which means that they darken when exposed to UV rays. it's especially useful for people who are sensitive to sunlight even if it alters the colors a bit (it's never gonna be as white as 'normal' lenses). I get a lot of headaches and because of my Optic Neuropathy and my allergies, my eyes tire quickly so I decided to try them out and, I've been using the for half a day and believe me, it's pretty great. now there’s a myth that brown lenses are often more comfortable for nearsighted people, i don’t think there’s any actual scientific proof of that but it is the case for most people as far as most opticians’ experiences go. i tried both and my eyes do seem to rest a bit more with brown than grey.
Cz F means Crizal Forte, it's Essilor's best Anti-Reflective coating, Prevencia is the name of one of their Blue Light AR coating (Saphir is the latest and best one but since we don't sell it I forgot it existed)
4.5 this is the diameter of the lens we order, it's linked to the size of the frame, your PD as well as your eyesight. It's measured in mm (like everything here).
5. these are your eye measurements. E means Écart which is french for Distance and usually is here for PD (because we're too lazy to write the P?). VL means Vision de Loin aka Far-sight. so E. Client VL means the Pupil Distance of the client when he looks at something from afar. VP means Vision de Près aka near-sight so E. Client VP means Pupil Distance of the client when he looks at something from up close (usually ~40cm). It's because when you look at something close to you, your pupils will move closer to your nose. often you can just take the E. Client VL and then calculate the VP from it. You can see on my prescription the number 57 and below it a post-it that has the same measurements as the ones on the worksheet. This is why we usually insist on taking those measurement because they’re rarely symmetrical so we can’t just do 57/2 (a 1.5-2.5 mm difference is kinda normal)
E. Montage is the PD you'll use for the glasses you're doing at the moment. If instead of progressives you have two glasses, the software should automatically calculate it and tell you which one of the VL or VP to use.
The Hauteur is the height between the pupil and the bottom of the lens, it's the one I said at the beginning was only taken for the progressives. Now I know some opticians do take its measurements even for normal lenses but it's not especially useful for 99% of people. Since I have normal lenses I didn't need it
6. those indicate the name of the ophthalmologist and the date of the appointment (very useful to keep track of the eyesight's evolution)
And finally :
Tumblr media
As I said before, I jumped a few steps but I still thought it'd be a nice post to make since I'm so happy I got to do my own glasses. I think I put the bevel pretty well as the lens barely gets out of the frame :3

Did our friday shopping. I live for our fridays. It's the only time I get out. Our day is only like 5 hours with a nice long lunch. But this shit is wearing me out. We came home after lunch at about 2 and I was whining the whole way from the car to my bed. 😶💦
I had a vision appointment. I only got my glasses 4 months ago but they said since I'm diabetic I could get another prescription before waiting a year... 👀 I feel like I'm just being picky and sensitive 'cause i dont think my vision could possibly change that much, especially since it ALWAYS does this 4 months after a prescription change. But she did adjust one side's nearsightedness and the astigmatism, so..
I think the trip in december is making me anxious, I wanna get all my shit sorted before then. Even though I'm only gonna be there for 10 days. 😅 And its not like any of these things are gonna affect my trip to the show. (I mean, I WOULD like to see, but I'm literally in the third row,,,👀)
I finally got a call from a rheumatologist today! All my referrals are slowly getting their shit together, so that's good. My appointment isnt until the week before I leave, but at least I have one. I hope they give me some sort of pain management but if not i still have those tramadol.. 👀
I still need to do something about my disc hernia but since I've yet to get a call from ortho, I'm not sure what. I heard about this cold laser therapy chiropractors can do, so I was thinking of asking if thats something i should look into.. Because if this condition is bothering one enough, they just do surgery, and while it's been an issue i dont think its surgery bad... Especially since its a come-and-go thing. But I don't know.
Was also thinking about finding someone to do dry needling for fibro stuff. I might just wait to talk to the reumatologist. At the very least i could just get trigger point injections. Maybe I could do needling on my temple trigger point..

I one was her glasses could stay on would be something like suction cups on the legs to grip on to her head or sticky pads on the nose bridge
It is weird choice that the Solver made to keep V's vision impairment unless it did it as another way to torment them and keep their personalities. Checking camera anatomy,
Tumblr media
It seems that her issue comes from her sensor, whether it was a manufacturing issue or it was damaged before she got to the manor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her pov doesn't glitch as much as a DD but her astigmatism is still really bad, she so is her nearsightedness
I sure as much as people love drawing post canon V with her glasses, seeing her previous behavior about hiding the fact that vision was bad I'd think she'd look for some robot equivalent of contacts. Which the only option if she doesn't feel like having Uzi mess around and mess with whatever internal cameras she has in her head would be getting screen protector that has a prescription on it.
could make her finally relenting and actually wearing glasses again into a sign of character growth. Because to do that she'd need to willing to show vulnerability, because by having those glasses on it would be a clear sign that her vision is weak without them
that said, she can be stubborn and glasses aren't really the best for combat. So I could definitely see a phase where she tries to look for more discreet solutions to continue to hide that fact and/or to act as an alternative when the glasses would be in the way

Got my hair redyed but not bleached as due to professional reasons I have to go back to natural in January. I should go to natural now but I'm not full blown student teaching yet (i.e all day everyday coteaching, making lesson plans, terrifyingly edTPA), that starts in January. I also got around 5-6 inches cut off (basically the parts that were completely blonde before). And to add to my appearance change, I got new glasses with a very different prescription like not as severe nearsightedness but twice the astigmatism correction. #colouredhair #glasses #newappearance

Fic: Then I saw her face... Now I’m a believer (Halloween One-Shot)
Summary:  Seven year old Cosima is excited to dress up as Shrek for Halloween. Seven year old Delphine is going as Princess Fiona even if her mother didn't approve. They meet while out trick-or-treating. It's a parallel universe where their souls find each other much earlier in their lives. Set in Canada, 2001. They're born in 1994 instead of 1984. Mrs. S. makes an appearance because I love her so much. Little Cophine + fluff to celebrate Halloween! One-shot.
Read on AO3 | FFN
Little Cosima jumps up and down in excitement that her father almost gives up on putting on the green paper mache ogre head on his daughter. He laughs and shakes his head, exasperated, sits back on the heels of his feet from his kneeling position at eye-level with his little girl.
“Cos, I won’t be able to finish putting on this Shrek costume on you if you don’t stay still.”
Gene Niehaus swears up and down that he’ll grow a decade older from just having to keep up with his seven year old ball of energy
Curly-haired, hazel-eyed Cosima with her bouncy and short curly hair giggles and grins from ear to ear, putting her hands behind her back, swaying side to side. She wore a white undershirt with a brown vest on top, brown pants and her arms were painted green. The child insisted on the green body paint.
“I’m sorry, daddy. I’ll keep still.”
The little girl pushes her new glasses up her small nose as she speaks. Her father just melts in adoration of his daughter, so he nods and grabs the green ogre head again and successfully puts it on his daughter’s head this time. He made sure that the head costume wasn’t too stuffy inside so that her daughter’s new glasses wouldn’t skew. They’d just gotten them after they noticed Cosima had difficulty recognizing objects at a distance. Their little girl had an early onset of astigmatism and nearsightedness. Once she got to wear the new pair, the child’s eyes had gone wide at all the bright colors and had squealed, “I can see now!” happily.
The professor gives his daughter a soft pat on her ogre costume’s head and peers under it to see the excitement on Cosima’s face when he says his next words.
“There you go, sweetie. All set for trick or treating!”
The way Cosima’s eyes lights up could rival New Year’s Eve at Times Square. There were a million fireworks in those hazel eyes and her father thinks there is nothing more worth going through hell and back for in this world.
The child squeals.
“Yay!”
She resumes her bouncing and clapping and hugs her father tight before running off to grab her little plastic pumpkin to fill with treats tonight and mumbling, ‘thank you, daddy, thank you, daddy,' over and over under her breath. Cosima zips out of the living room with her candy basket and goes to her mother who was waiting for them outside.
The professor expels a breath and shakes his head. He treasures every moment with his daughter but hopes for his sanity that his child eventually mellows down. He really can’t keep up with her energy. He gets up slowly.
Shrek Cosima’s head pops up from behind the divider of the hallway leading to their front door.
“DOONKEY!”
The child bellows kn the lowest voice she could manage, imitating her favorite character from her favorite film.
The professor sighs and puts on the headband with donkey ears he made to match her daughter’s costume.
“Alright, alright, Shrek. I’m coming.”
Cosima giggles and whooshes out of his sight again. Her father just shakes his head again.
Little Delphine holds herself completely still as her mother fusses over her green dress.
“Ma cherie, you behave. No running around or making trouble. Comprenez-vous?”
“Oui, maman.”
Delphine dares not make a move because she is aware that her mother is already upset over her not wearing the pink Princess Peach costume her mother previously bought and insisting on wearing a green dress; the little French girl wanted to go as Princess Fiona from Shrek and her mother had flat out said no to her the first time. Her mother had asked her why she would want to dress up as an ugly ogre instead of a pretty princess. Delphine, like any six year old afraid of upsetting their parent, couldn’t say anything and just kept quiet.
She was crying in her room that night before dinner and when her papa went to get her, he saw her little red and tear-streaked face. He immediately hugged her and asked her what was wrong. He managed to coax it out of her after a few moments. She told him that she really wanted to be Princess Fiona because Fiona kicked butt unlike the damsel-in-distress that Peach was. Her father just smiled and nodded, “okay, ma cherie,”telling her that he will try to talk to her mother.
Two days before Halloween, her French mother had come home with a little green dress and a braided red-haired wig. Delphine beamed in happiness and excitement and kissed her parents on the cheek.
“Oh, Mama, merci infiniment!”
Her mother had smiled at her and whispered, “je t’en prie,” before giving her a kiss on the top of her head.
Delphine noticed the lack of green body paint though and ogre ears; she wanted to be the ogre Princess Fiona, but she accepts the compromise for human Fiona.
“Okay, princess, ready to go trick-or-treating?”
Her father walks into her room where her mother had helped her into the costume. The little French girl immediately broke out in giggles at the sight of her father wearing pink horns on his head, pink dragon wings on his back and a pink dragon tail behind him, tied around his waist.
“I’ll be the dragon watching over you… get it?”
Her Canadian father, who was always the funny one of her parents, turns around and gives his tail a little wiggle. Delphine giggles louder and claps her hands like a baby seal in excitement. Her French mother shakes her head and laughs at her husband’s antics. Her father turns back around to face them, grinning proudly that his plan to make his daughter and wife laugh was immensely successful.
“But Papa, the dragon is a girl!”
“Well, cherie, do you want me to wear lipstick?”
Another fit of giggles washes over Delphine and the little girl grips her sides. Her father smiles at his precious daughter then at his wife. The French woman just smiles and shakes her head again, before walking to her husband and lovingly kissing him on the cheek.
“Oh, you silly man.”
“You love me.”
The French woman chuckles and gives her husband another kiss on the cheek. Delphine looks at her parents and smiles, happy and relieved that her mother is now in a good mood. Her father turns to her.
“Ready to go trick-or-treating, cherie?”
Delphine nods so vigorously, with all the excitement of a seven year old about to go trick-or-treating, then runs to hug her parents around their legs.
“Oui, Papa!”
“This is Halloween! This is Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!”
Gene Niehaus holds his little excited ogre’s left hand while she held onto her little prop sack (“Because that fits Shrek instead of a Pumpkin!”Cosima had explained to him) with her right. The little girl is practically skipping. She and her father are singing random songs from the child’s favorite animated movies. The little girl told her father that it was only appropriate to sing Nightmare Before Christmas songs first, since it is Halloween.
There were already a lot of kids going from house to house on their block. Cosima asked to start from the farthest street in their neighborhood and go door-to-door backwards, so they finish at their block.
They get to the third street and father-daughter duo run into one of Gene’s colleagues at the university who happens to also live in the area.
“Hey, Gene! Oh, and is that little Cosima? You got bigger!”
The man bends down to look at Cosima eye-level and the child smiles politely at her father’s friend. She does however, find it unacceptable to be called by her name because tonight, she isn’t Cosima, so she puts her small hands on her hips and musters up all the authority she could to try to remedy this.
“Good evening, Sir! Please call me Shrek. I’m Shrek tonight!”
The man laughs and nods, putting his hands up in mock surrender.
“Okay, Shrek. I’m sorry.”
The two adults start talking and catching up. Cosima starts growing impatient and taps her foot. Her father remains to be caught up in whatever adult conversation he was having and couldn’t see that his daughter is simply itching to start her trick-or-treating adventure. The little girl decides enough is enough and so she tugs at her father’s pants.
“Daddy?”
Her father stops in the middle of whatever he was saying and looks down at his daughter.
“Yes, Shrek-sima?”
Cosima giggles at her new nickname. She decides to go along with it.
“Donkey-dad, can I go ahead and start trick-or-treating? I promise to be careful!”
“Hmm…”
Gene looks up and pretends to consider it. Cosima does her best puppy-eyes expression.
“Oh, please! I’m good. I won’t get into trouble.”
Her father laughs and nods his head slowly.
“Okay, Shrek-sima. I’ll go catch up with you.”
Cosima jumps up and her ogre head costume tilts. Her eyes widen in panic that the ogre head might fall or get ruined, so she stands completely still once she touches the ground, holding her head-piece and putting it back right-way up. Her father chuckles.
“Just don’t eat any of the candy before I come and get ya, alright? We can’t have you too hyper tonight.”
Cosima nods her head in understanding before waving at her father and skipping away.
She gets to the next block and decides that she just can’t wait until the last one so she beelines for the closest house instead.
As Cosima runs up the front porch of the house, she looks down at her feet to make sure that she doesn’t trip on any rock or cracked pavement. This proves to be a wrong decision because she collides into another kid. She falls splat on her bum on the ground, bouncing a centimeter off of it from the padding in her costume. That was her father’s idea which serves two purposes: one, to make her look like a believable mini Shrek, and two, for safety measures because he knows how Cosima gets when she’s a little too excited. The other kid, an older boy, wasn’t as fortunate, however. He was a taller kid but with the impact of their collision, he fell splat on his bum, too. A group of kids who looked to be his age started laughing at him. The boy’s face scrunched up in anger, turning red. He whips around to face his friends, yelling at them.
“SHUT IT!”
The group’s laughter dies down but they stay smiling, anticipating what their friend is going to do next.
The older kid stands up to his full height, a full head taller than Cosima, and dusts himself off. She was small for her age and this proved a disadvantage at times like these. He looks at Cosima with a nine year old’s rage in his features and Cosima cowers, stuttering apologies.
“I’m-I’m sorry! I’m s-sorry. I didn’t mean- I’m sorry!”
“You stupid kid! Watch where you’re going!”
He raises his fist and aims to hit the little girl. Cosima gasps and covers her face with her arms.
“HEY!”
Cosima turns her head towards the direction of her savior; the older boy and his friends to the interruption. A little girl in a green dress is running towards them, shouting.
“Hey, you ugly bully! Stop that!”
The little girl comes in between Cosima and the older kid, speaking with a hint of a French accent. She stands taller than Cosima but she didn’t reach up to the boy’s full height, only up until his nose. The bully’s face contorts in anger before slacking and relaxing. He then starts laughing and his friends laugh with him.
“Oh yeah? What are you gonna do about it?”
The little girl snorts before stomping off to the door and pressing the doorbell. All the other kids and Cosima watch her in confusion. The door opens and a woman answers the door. The woman catches sight of the bully with his fist raised at the little child in an ogre costume, who them immediately straightens up as he realizes that he just got caught trying to punch a younger girl.
“Oi, boy! What the hell is going on here?”
The little girl in the green dress speaks up immediately.
“Madame, these boys are picking on my friend!”
The man in the police uniform comes out to his porch and towers over the bully, a menacing look in her eyes. It was his turn to cower back now.
“You know what, kid? I hate bullies. You wanna pick on someone? Pick on someone your own size. Pick on me. Otherwise, piss off, now, will ya?”
The woman spoke with an Irish accent. The bully and his friends skedaddle away in fear. The woman turns to the two girls and her iciness melts away completely, reaching out to help Cosima get up back on her feet. She smiles and both children beam at her in return. She crouches down to their eye-level and addresses them both.
“Well, don’t you two look adorable? Shrek and Fiona!”
It was only when the older woman mentions it that Cosima realizes her savior was definitely Princess Fiona, green dress, red braided hair, little gold tiara and all. Cosima stares at her in awe.
“So, what are your names?”
Cosima snaps back to reality. The other little girl answers first.
“My name is Delphine, madame. Thank you for helping us.”
Little Delphine curtsies and it was the most adorable thing in the world. The Irish woman chuckles then turns to Cosima.
“How about you, chicken?”
“Cosima. Thank you, ma’m.”
The Irish woman smiles warmly at them.
“Well you both can call me Mrs. S. And you’re welcome. I dislike seeing people getting picked on especially when they can’t fight back. Now, let me go get treats for you both.”
The two children nod in excitement and Mrs. S. goes into her house again for a moment to grab the bowl of sweets she had prepared for trick-or-treaters. She comes out and scoops two handfuls each for Delphine and Cosima. She also digs around in the bottom of the bowl and pulls out two giant swirly lollipops that’s the size of a hand. The children’s eyes widen in glee.
“Whoa.”
Cosima mutters under her breath as Mrs. S. puts one lollipop into her sack.
“Happy halloween, kids.”
Cosima instinctively hugs the woman around her leg and Delphine sees this and does the same. Mrs. S. says a quiet, “oh” in surprise but the affection from the kids weren’t at all unwelcome. She pats them both on the head as they let go.
“Thank you again!”
“Merci beaucoup!”
The Irish woman nods.
“You two run along now.”
The two seven year olds smile and wave before turning around and heading back towards the streets filled with other little kids in various costumes.
Cosima and Delphine walk in silence for a few steps before the girl with glasses takes the taller girl’s hand. Delphine feels the smaller hand enclose hers and she pulls it away, to Cosima’s disappointment. But it was only for a split-second and the taller girl slips her hand more comfortably into the smaller girl’s grasp, so that she’s holding Cosima’s hand, too. This makes the bespectacled girl look at her and beam brightly.
“Thank you, Delphine… Erm, Princess Fiona.”
Cosima blushes, feeling shy. The taller girl giggled and squeezed her hand.
“You’re welcome, Shrek.”
The smaller girl looks down and pushes her glasses up her nose, then looks back up at her savior with a thousand-watt lopsided grin.
“Um, would you like to go trick-or-treating with me?”
Delphine mirrors Cosima’s smile, grinning brightly from ear to ear now, too.
“Oui! Of course!”
Cosima giggles and she automatically starts skipping. Delphine laughs and thinks, that looks fun, and joins the other girl in skipping. The girl in the ogre costume automatically starts singing the theme from their favorite movie. The French girl immediately joins her.
And then I saw her face Now I’m a believer Without a trace Of doubt in my mind
I’m in love! I’m a believer I couldn’t leave her If I tried
Both their fathers find the two girls after they finish trick-or-treating at the next house. The two adults laughed at the coincidence that their daughters would be wearing matching costumes, and in turn, they too would match.
The clock ticks 7 o’clock in the morning and Cosima’s phone starts blasting Accidentally In Love as the tone. She sits up in surprise, rubs her eyes groggily and yawns. Her French lover’s arm is draped over her waist. Delphine’s slumber hadn’t been disturbed at all and Cosima presses a kiss on the blonde’s forehead.
The LEDA suddenly remembers the dream she just had and blinks to wake herself up. That was an interesting dream. They had just watched the first Shrek movie last night, shared a bowl of popcorn and snuggled. She shakes Delphine softly to wake her, and whispers.
“Hey, babe… Hey.”
Cosima plants fluttery kisses on the side of Delphine’s face and the blonde stirs. The French doctor hums sleepily, wondering what it is that Cosima is waking her up for. Her unspoken question is answered immediately.
“I just had the cutest dream…”
And Cosima proceeds to tell Delphine about the dream where they were both seven years old and wore a Shrek and Fiona costume; how little Delphine and Mrs. S. had saved her from bullies and how they’d become friends.
Delphine smiles and laughs while listening to the tale of her girlfriend’s dream.
“... and then we started singing “I’m a believer” together while skipping; our dads found us and laughed at our matching costumes and their matching costumes. Then I woke up.”
“That sounds so vivid, mon amour. So cute. Almost as if… It’s another life in another universe.”
Cosima chuckles and takes Delphine’s hand, playing with her fingers.
“Well, that’s a nice thought. Who’s to say it isn’t?”
Author’s Notes: I put my other updates on hold just had to write something for Halloween lol. I remembered that I wrote an AU for Faberry way back where they met as kids on the playground and became childhood friends that eventually turned into lovers. I thought it would be a good idea to do that for Cophine and add Halloween into the story. :) Hope you enjoy this! Feel free to comment or message me- they fuel my writing. :P
