Learn more about Mickey’s Birthdayland under the cut, with more photos of the land!
Mickey’s Birthdayland was an unusual occurrence in Disney World history - it was a temporary land, built as a celebration of Mickey’s 60th birthday. Or rather, it was supposed to be.
Opening in June of 1988, it was a really simple land with only one live show and no real rides, instead having walk through attractions such as a walk through of Mickey’s house and a petting zoo, which included a cow that had a marking in the shape of Mickey ears named Minnie Moo.

Confusingly, the land was partially themed after Duckberg, for some reason, to the point that a bunch of Ducktales characters appear in this promo image: (the “Starland” thing will be explained shortly!)

The theming seems to have been pretty light, though, other than a sign proclaiming you to be entering Duckberg and a statue of Duckberg’s founder whose name is (checks clipboard) Cornelius… Coot? Sure.

As I hinted before, though, Mickey’s Birthdayland was not as temporary as it was intended to be. The land was so popular that they decided to make it permanent, and renamed Mickey’s Birthdayland to Mickey’s Starland.
This name would not stick, and nor would most of the land as it was built. In 1996, the land was closed for extensive refurbishments. It opened again on October 1st, renamed to Mickey’s Toontown Fair, relating it to the land that already existed in Disneyland (but had actually been built after the opening of Birthdayland). This new version had actual rides, including a ride that still stands in Magic Kingdom today, The Barnstormer.
In 2011, this land was closed for good, and replaced with Storybook Circus after more extensive refurbishments. And Storybook Circus seems here to stay!
