the best fanfic is written by a variety of people of ages 18-45 in various stages of life with emotionally and thematically authentic insights into the story and characters and who can adapt various plot beats and interpersonal dynamics into new settings and situations and who may be skilled at portraying comedy or tragedy or action or parody or charming domesticity or romance and they usually have at least some writing experience already. but that's not as catchy

#I don't know if I've ever read a fic by those lauded middle aged women #ppl don't rly talk about their person lives in the notes anymore #I feel like that's an early 2000s thing #ALSO i feel like that impression is a holdover from like. the hp fandom explosion #I get the sense that most ppl I read are youngish #I know for a fact that one of my favorite authors is a man and I really like the way he writes jyl so. go figure #anyway #there's a lot of research that cql/mdzs kind of needs esp for canon fics #and idk how many fic authors are doing that #also I feel like there's a common conception that fic authors are white and while I'm sure that's broadly the trend #for cql/mdzs I really think there's a significant percentage of writers who are youngish and chinese #I think they're definitely outnumbered tho...I remember meta blogs complaining abt it years ago 😭#cor.txt
