For those of you who missed it on Saturday, here's the full video of the unsettling (but extremely cool) way Phil was officially invited to the QSMP.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I really love how much slower the development is this time around. Wilbur leaving without Clara’s blessing to go (or the feeling that this is what she wants) makes to plot a lot more interesting. It gives him a reason to fight back and be difficult. The first time around he could tell himself he needed to trust Her judgement, that was a comfort, he doesn’t have that this time around. In fact, he feels like he’s failing Her even more by getting kidnapped. He failed Her because he couldn’t get Schlatt to cancel the ball. (even if that’s fully Schlatts fault). There’s just so much internalized blame for things not in his control.
More signs that Glass!Wilbur is not alright: complete lack of self-preservation skills, only purpose is to serve Clara and his emperor even if said empower doesn’t listen rendering him useless (and he knows it) yet he still prefers being able to pretend that maybe this time will be different and Schlatt will listen to him for once (or maybe he did listen sometimes) over not being able to try do his job at all. At least he didn’t go straight into suicidal without his ‘purpose’. The no-name thing again. Phil and Techno are literally like “we don’t have time to unpack all that right now”.
Also, honourable mention for Tommy’s reaction to all the fight leaving Wilbur when he realises their goal was to make sure Schlatt wouldn’t get his advice. Extra credit for Schlatt not listening anyway. Which brings me to Wilbur being so uptight his visions and so insistent he can’t share anything about them or the emperor’s reaction to them. He hasn’t been asked (not by the Deathlings I think) but it’ll be interesting to see how long it will take before his frustration spills over. It’ll take a lot longer this time around.
Last up, Wilbur calling the Deathlings monsters. I don’t think that he actually thinks that they are monsters. He seems to be quite fascinated by them and their temple actually. He stares at Kristin's statute until he remembers that She’s not his goddess (and probably evil) and he’s not supposed to be fascinated by Her. It’s a case of aiming to hurt to try and find some semblance of control when he still has no idea what is going to happen to him. If they are planning to kill him, it might speed up the process. It’s that furious cocktail of anger, fear and frustration making him echo things he’s heard about the Deathlinbs regardless of whether or not he believes them.
It makes me excited for him to slowly discover that maybe these people aren’t so bad. And the. Discover that maybe his life is a little fucked up. All in due time of course.

yeah not only is the development slower but I've actually changed a few things regarding the message/arc I'm going for for wilbur compared to what I was originally implying in someone else's dream. in this version, he's not going to get permission/clara's blessing for any of this. in someone else's dream I was speeding things up so I could fit the story into 3 chapters, so I needed clara to give her blessing so justify why wilbur would willingly go with tommy so fast. this time around, I don't need that justification, so I can actually move forward with the message I want which involves wilbur not getting clara's blessing
glass!wilbur is literally so messed up. so much internalized self-blame, not caring about his own self-preservation, the copious amounts of dehumanization—he's a whole package of mental problems. phil and techno do not have the time to unpack that shit.
oh yeah it's definitely gonna take longer for wilbur's frustrations with schlatt to spill over this time around lmao
yeah wilbur has a really weird internal battle going on where he's genuinely fascinated by the deathlings and their history + temple, because it's an interesting topic he's never been allowed to learn much about. but at the same time, he's the pythia. he's not supposed to be interested in a forbidden religion like death worship.
one of wilbur's big problems you're going to see crop up very soon is his lack of control and how he acts out because of that. he wants to try and find some semblance of control and predictability, and it's going to make him lash out because he doesn't know what else to do. it'll be fun to write lol
all in due time yes :) so glad you're enjoying so far spruce <3
