i am so not of a fan of (at least from my view) a lot of childrens shows nowadays being dummed down and made ""safer"" for children to the point where they feel,,, condescending and babyish. and idk yea i very rarely engage w that stuff but still!

i didnt like that stuff as a kid either, i rly didnt like it. i always liked things which seemed more mature. and rly, from our generations we have so many shows which have become Classics!!!!, not just "kids shows" to be forgotten. courage the cowardly dog, jack the samurai, ed ed and eddy, that one w the fosters home for monsters, hell even flapjack and that one w the kid thats a cook in that weird world, uh scooby doo,, uhh the powerpuff girls etc etc. these are all animations which have gone down as being cult classics now, and they have value and can be watched and genuinely enjoyed even now that weve grown up. even like,,, as a kid my favorite movies were the last unicorn (based on a rather philosophical and deep and sad adult novel) and a series of old disney animations which held a certain vintage charm and still do.

and like. none of these shows made you feel stupid as a kid. hell some of them were outright disturbing. and they dont make u feel stupid as an adult either frankly, like, u can genuinely watch courage or samurai jack or idk some others of these and Still get something out of them and not feel like ur watching a baby show

but nowadays?? most of what ive seen even in passing seems just,,, very dummed down??? the animation styles lack charm and style, and the dialogue and plots are brain melting. and god idk so many reboots too seem so ugly and lackluster in comparion to their original. the new teen titans go is like,,,, why does that exist. the new mlp g5 is lacking so much of the charm and intelligence of the early seasons of gen 4 which were genuinely well written and thought out and you could watch them as a preteen and teen and not feel like ur watching a show for 5 years olds. hell even at 5 i rly didnt like stuff which felt too "made for kids"

even like???? with the new bambi live action remake (and yes i hate 99% of remakes like this i think they are senseless cashgrabs which ruin the love and charm put into old and beautiful classics) they were like.... well we cant make bambis mom die bc thats too much for the kids :/ like???? no its not??

i just dont get it idk. and i dont see 99% of the animations and shows of this sort of these generations becoming classics in the same way.....,,,,, just bc something is for a younger audience doesn't mean it has to be dummed down

#adventure time is a good exception to this that show has genuinely good writing and it follows finn growing up too #so its something that ppl can watch from kids to teenagers to young adults and it still makes sense and its engaging #and there must be others too but they feel. rare #and NO steven universe is not part of this list in my personal opinion

SOOO as i am sure you've seen over the course of the past few days,

hometown cha cha cha - a new gem that is absolutely fantastic to me. it's about a dentist who loses her job and takes a trip to a seaside city for some perspective, only to end up moving there and set up a dental clinic in semblance of a fresh start. the problem is that she's a city girl, and this isn't the city. there's a lot of preconceived notions that she has about the people in town, as do they about her, and so far the show has been a slow and steady practice in the kindness and patience we learn to emulate when meeting new people and understanding that they are as troubled and hopeful in their own lives as we are. also, the romance thus far is positively swoonworthy. i went into an emotional crisis last night over it

into the ring - another kdrama fave that i was positively obsessed with last year. it centers on the politics of a small town, and how a girl who is notorious for making (rightful) complaints to city hall ends up running as a district representative. initially this is only something she does bc she's in desperate need of money, but the mc has so much inherent love for her town that she ends up being a pretty proactive representative anyway. her relationship with one of the people who fields complaint calls at city hall is also a focus, and it's one of the most tenderly developed romances i've seen in a long time. there's just a lot of care and attention to detail in the show that makes your wholehearted investment worth it. every character brings something unique to the table

anne with an e - obviously if i was going to rec the book series then i was going to rec the show as well lol! if we are going to be completely technical then admittedly i do think the sullivan movies have the best portrayals of anne and gilbert as well as the best depiction of their romance (esp in the sense of accuracy, the third movie aside), but the more recent show i think does a better job of staying true to the books' nature of investing in a full cast. it really captures that homey, small town feel that i so love, and i think it expands on the cast in ways that other adaptations haven't really cared to

gilmore girls - admittedly i don't know that i need to include this bc i think everyone knows this is the go-to small town show. but nonetheless. there is a lot about the show that has aged poorly over the years (namely how enjoyable rory is as a character, which is. . . very little unfortunately as seasons go by) but i still think it possesses a lot of small town charm, esp in its comedy. the way everyone's lives just seamlessly interweave in stars hollow is both incredibly real but also ridiculously funny bc sometimes overlaps in episode plot points are so obscure as to be bizarre. i genuinely think it's a really enjoyable show up through the fourth season (the affair plot point aside)

sweet magnolias - this is a new show that started airing last year but oh my god! the level of invested i was as i watched it was so crazy. the plot touches on a lot of different characters but it centers itself in the friendship between three women who are each dealing with their own struggles and decide to open a spa together as a sort of healing project. the character arcs aren't particularly unique but everyone is nonetheless so endearing and i really appreciate how almost every character is human. like i think a lot of shows with teens can tend to make them out as unforgivable esp bc it's so common for adults to portray them these days, but the teens in this show are actually teens, and i like that they're given opportunities to grow and change in spite of mistakes they may make. i rly value those kind of narratives and overall the atmosphere of the show was just very healing. also heather headley is so damn pretty i was completely enamored with her the whole season

everwood - little to no one has heard of this show likely bc it started airing at around the same time as the oc and one tree hill and i mean. obv it was going to be overlooked in comparison. but personally i love it a lot! the initial plot's about this kid ephram who's just lost his mom and moves to colorado with his dad and sister. his dad worked a lot before his mom's death and as such ephram doesn't really have much of a relationship with him, so rebuilding that is a huge focus. there's also amy, aka the girl ephram likes, who's dealing with some trauma of her own bc her brother landed her boyfriend in a coma. there's a lot of baggage in this show re: death and i think there's a sadness that really permeates the atmosphere, but not in a way that's disconcerting per se. it's just real. it gets down to the ugliness and loneliness of trauma, esp wrt the teen characters, and i really appreciate that. the only major flaw is there's a plot point where ephram dates his college babysitter who is in college and gets her pregnant although his dad scares her off so he never finds out. but we ignore that

friday night lights - as someone who was in marching band and could still not for the life of me tell you what is what in football, this show is so damn good. it's about a rural texas town exclusively driven by its football team, except this year, the first game starts off with the star player being paralyzed from the waste down, putting a number of different people on the spot: the star player's girlfriend, his best friend, the new head coach, the runner-up qb who has never actually played a real game. i think anyone who watches the show ends up watching it for a specific character or dynamic but at the core it's just about the like. inherent goodness of people. like some of these people make mistakes due to pressure or grief but most of them are irrevocably human and that's what drives the show forward, as do the unlikely but endearing relationships formed between various people in the town. my personal favorite dynamic is between tim and lyla, who are in a bit of a unique place as the best friend and boyfriend of the injured star player

I like the friendships in this movie in general. I wish they weren't pushed aside for the romance.

The whole "turning Bella" issue reminds me of Phoebe Taylor from the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. There wasn't any waffling in turning her. Once the decision was made it was done.

Final thoughts:

Eh. I can see why ppl love the material. I get frustrated with the... dumb shit teenagers do.

I wish the story/conflict had stayed focused on Forks and the vampire/werewolf issue. Spend the time with those characters and what kind of town would develop around these two groups of supernatural creatures living beside each other.

If you like the story of forbidden love and impossible things happening I highly suggest "The All Souls Trilogy" by Deborah Harkness. It's got groups of supernatural creatures, history, and shenanigans involving a forbidden romance between a vampire and a witch.

I haven’t posted about animation in a while that I remember, and I know a lot of my followers are into it as much as me so I decided to make a list of the animated movies and series I watched on the past year or so, coupled with my short, spoilerless take on them. Enjoy!

The Bear’s Famous Invasion of Sicily

Movie, 2019, Italian/French

9/10, a delightful little movie with amazing visuals. It feels like an animated picture book.

One of those “plot is in the title” media! I had never heard of this before but was heavily recommended it by my family members, who all loved it! It’s a sweet story, nothing groundbreaking but the unique colorful visual style alone makes it worth it.

The Castle of Cagliostro

Movie, 1979, Japanese

10/10. Reminded me of all the books i loved reading as a child

I assume its because it’s so old and the art style and themes are so different that it gets little to no love compared to other Ghibli movies, which is a shame! It’s fun with an endearing cast and as always, great animation and music

Mushishi

Series, 2006, Japanese

10/10 three episodes in I knew it was going to be my favorite series ever

One of the few things I’ve seen I’ll describe as life-changing. It’s absolutely lovely but never toots its own horn about it. Humble, calming, emotional and surprisingly mature. It’s pretty impossible to binge due to how intense the experience is. I just want to walk in the forest now...

FMA: Brotherhood

6/10 Dissapointing adaptation of a classic story

I read the manga for this when I was in middle school and remembered loving it. The animated version does an ok job of presenting the characters and worldbuilding and has some nice action scenes but overall looks really damn cheap and just. Not very good. Seeing I already knew most of the plot I did not have the element of discovery that made me marvel so much reading the original. It’s still a nice series but I really recommend reading it instead.

Code Lyoko (s1+2)

Series, 2003, french

3/10. 1.5 being for the opening song alone

This show sucks ass if I hadn’t been watching this with my bestie I would have dropped it two episodes in. The art style is ugly the stories are always the same and the first season has a (later removed thank fucking god) LITERAL “erase any consequences” button as a plot device in every episode. If you watch it for one thing let it be the nostalgia factor of early 00s Vidya Game Plot

The Legend of Hei

Movie, 2019, Chinese

7/10. Impressive visuals and a poor story

I finally watched this, peer pressured by the load of gifsets on my dashboard! It’s a sweet movie with really impressive animation, sometimes a bit too flashy for my taste (the action sequences go so ham they become not very readable...) but the story was just ok? The setting is barely explained and you are instead bombarded with vague epicspeech about powers and stuff that made me fondly remember Kingdom Hearts lol but that asides it’s a really good time! I need to watch more Chinese movies the few I know are just delightfully off the shits in how they approach action and I love that

Hunter x Hunter

Series, 1999, Japanese

9/10. Superior to the recent one!

I first got introduced to the series via the 2011 one. Comparatively, the 99 series focuses way less on action and way more on the characters, which I love because that fits my personal preferences! Despite mediocre filler episodes and some weird slight pointless plot changes, what it changes from the original manga doesn’t have much of an impact on the characters. The animation quality isn’t always consistent including a huge art style change for an arc (???) but it’s overall pretty nice. The series really shines in the last arc it adapts.

Oban Star-racers

Series, 2006, Japanese/french

9/10 a lovely surprise

This series is completly obscure despite having been created by people famous for their other series (Cowboy Bebop, Code Lyoko that i can name) and it’s a crime! It’s a kids show but without being stupid about it who tells the story of an inter-planetary race. If you liked that one scene in the star wars prequels you know what I mean. It’s got surprisingly nice animation for a TV series, and some truly great character design. The art style is a bit unique in a not for everyone sense, but I didn’t mind it much. It’s also THE most offensively 2000s series i’ve seen in terms of visuals. y2k kids assemble

The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon

Movie, 1963, japanese

8/10. Classic fairytale format with incredible visuals

Watched this for the art style because I know it inspired Samurai Jack, and it delievered! I dont’ have much to say about this one, it’s a very simply film but it’s sweet. For my pirates out there if you want to find it in good quality with english subtitles it’s VERY hard to find. If you just want to see the looks of it, it’s on Youtube with portugese subs.

Pure delight...great animation writing everything. A little short about death and friendship but not in the way you imagine!

Ruben Brandt: Collector

Movie, 2018, Hungarian

10/10. Underrated as hell

Watched this fully blind for the first time in an animated festival and rewatched it with friends. It’s a crime I never see anyone talking about it given the amount of whining I see about the lack of both adult animation and 2D movies? This film is a unique love letter to art in the form of a weird mix of charming crime story and psychological horror with amazing visuals. I recommend watching it blind and also buying it to show appreciation for how nice it is!!! WATCH THIS MOVIE...

Mononoke

Series, 2007, Japanese

10/10 Visual/storytelling masterpiece in the weird shit departement

If you can stomach intense stuff watch this. The visuals are incredibly unique and beautiful and under the jewel tones and art direction high takes it’s a really cool horror series. My only obstacle to enjoying it the first time I saw it was how dense it is - simply put, it’s so...culturally Japanese it’s not very accessible to me who doesn’t know anything about the culture? Watching it for the second time helped understanding the stories more!

Corto Maltese in Siberia

Movie, 2002, french

9/10 but really close to ten. A great adaptation!

I’m a huge fan of the original comic so I entered this a biiiittttt suspicious it would suck but it was a really pleasant surprise! It has all the wonder and charm of the original and the animation was surprisingly good for the little budget. If you’re not familiar with the series, it’s a sort of geopolitical action/adventure movie but with it’s own really poetic vibe to it. It’s almost impossible to find online but happens to be fully on YouTube so go ham I guess?

Movie, 2009, Japanese

10/10 cinema was invented for this, actually

Every review of this movie i’ve seen gives it five stars and starts by talking about how immensly stupid it is. I’m no different. It’s a masterpiece of escalating energy with the depth of a puddle and it fucking rules. It’s free on YouTube too so there really is no excuse to not watch it. Watched it for the first time on a huge cinema screen and despite this my second rewatch on my small laptop was as/even more enjoyable. If you watch this stoned with friends you might travel to another dimension

Spirited Away

Movie, 2001, Japan

10/10 deserves the love it gets

I watched this a single time as a kid and had little memory of it! I mean it’s Ghibli you know it’s going to be good as hell but this one rly shines in how colorful and detailed it is and in it’s world! It made me remember I had a huge crush on the dragonboy as a kid. I’m gay now

Kung-fu Panda (1&2)

Movie, Usa

10/10. KFP fucking rules

Honestly my favorite franchise of the whole disney/dreamworks/pixar hydra. It’s fun as hell, doesn’t skip a single beat and has amazing animation and character designs. If something is a good time I will not care if it’s deep or not and boy I fucking love these movies

Sinbad, Legend of the Seven Seas

5/10 Some great some really bad and overall generic

I tend to hate american cinema and this includes that era of animation I have no nostalgia for. Sinbad is in a weird place because I love adventure stories and the visuals of the movie absolutely deliver but it’s very predictable and TANKED by the addition of the female character, pushed in your face as “look we have woman!!!” despite her writing being misogynistic as hell lol. The evil goddess rules tho. This movie would have been a solid 9 if instead of the girl the two dudes had kissed

i was tweeting about this the other day but its 3am and i feel like ranting

but i rly hate “shipping at all costs” culture where every time you watch/read/play something new, you have to have a ship in it and it has to be the main characters and it has to be the primary thing you enjoy about it

not because i think shipping is bad or “wah wah what about platonic bonds, we have too much romantic contemt” or whatever

but just because it’s constantly used to justify shipping disgusting things. every interaction two (or more) characters have can become fuel for a ship, even if it’s incest, even if pedophilic, even if there’s a power imbalance or it’s abusive or anything else

a person who can’t just watch people interact and enjoy that for what it is suddenly thinks an adult man mentoring a young woman is flirting and romantic (see: people who ship kate bishop and clint barton) or a man torturing a girl a decade younger than him is leading up to hate sex (see: reylo)

and people needing to make everything gay fall into the same traps--age gaps, shipping slave owners with their slaves, whatever.

like i’m all for lighthearted shipping and even making small moments into something bigger just for the fun of it but like this MUST HAVE A SHIP AT ALL COSTS! culture means taking *inappropriate* things if not straight up abusive things and making it bigger just because you don’t know how to enjoy the content any other way. i feel like i couldn’t even trust you to watch a movie about a couple raising a child because you’d have to make it into incest just because you’d see a parent doting on their kid and interpret it as romantic.

like you’ve lost the ability to process human relationships as anything other than ship fodder, to the point that characters who you can’t find a way to ship with someone else get effectively erased or you end up with “pair the spares” ships that gain fame (clint barton and coulson) just to show off how batshit you are. like you can’t enjoy a character unless you can imagine them fucking someone.

BACKGROUND.

so her parents are both super well-regarded & cultured people. they both come from old money families. helena’s mom is an art historian and fine art restorer. she’s worked w/ a lot of museums and was on the vatican museum’s conservation team. that’s why the family moved around a lot. now her mom heads the restoration team at the louvre. her dad is a scholar. he’s an ancient historian, linguist, and author who focuses on greek and roman mythology and linguistics.

growing up, her mom always said that talking about money was tacky. yet she was never afraid to show the world, albeit subtly, that they had it. her parents are total snobs.

helena was held to high standards by her parents. they definitely weren’t nurturing, emotional, or loving. they were cold, carping and they put their needs/careers before her while simultaneously demanding perfection from her.

her childhood wasn’t birthday parties or playing on the playground. she was constantly being dragged along to speaking engagements, museum openings, or charity events. her parents would always host dinner parties with the crème de la crème of art and academia. and helena was expected to attend. so she was nine and stuck at a table of adults. she was forced into the arts & academia world because she was constantly surrounded by it.

she began to rebel as she got older. she’d sneak alcohol just to make those boring evenings seem more enjoyable. and she’d flirt with older men, discussing homer with some cambridge professor who was hot in an old-guy sort of way. she’d cause scenes just for fun. she got into drugs, mainly cocaine but also hallucinogens. she really enjoyed imbibing and hedonism. but she’s extremely smart.

she went to vassar for a half semester but left under...interesting circumstances. she wasn’t, like, expelled from vassar. officially, anyway. but she did get absolutely shitfaced and set fire to some streamer decorations in her dorm room leftover from a party. oops. she’s actually a bit of a firebug...she likes to light things up.

her parents essentially paid for her to attend chatsworth. but like i said, she is very smart !

she’s a double major in comparative literature and women’s studies. she’s gonna pursue her phd and already has her dissertation theme: depictions of female madness and hysteria in english and french literature. helena actually has bipolar disorder (kept hush hush by her parents) and has always related to the idea of the “mad woman” in literature.

PERSONALITY.

HEDONISTIC. helena has a real lust for life. she loves opulence and debauchery. emotionally? she is living in the 1966 movie daisies.

CULTURED. since her parents kinda forced her into the arts and history world, she’s rather cultured and knowledgable. can come off as pretentious because she does think she’s smarter than most lol

IMPULSIVE. a lot of the time she doesn’t think before she acts, especially when she’s drunk/high/just feeling wild. she definitely takes her hedonism to the extreme sometimes.

OPULENT. she’s often rather excessive and eccentric. she’s a wild card at spending money. she’ll send a dozen white roses just because a friend had a bad day. or rent a limo for the night to end up at a mcdonald’s drive thru. she loves decadence, so she’s a huge foodie. red wine, chocolate, foie gras, expensive meats and cheeses imported from france. she loves expensive drinks and can always usually be found with something in her hand, from red wine to brandy.

overall she’s very much down for a good time. a very intelligent girl raised in a pressure cooker and doused with expectations, culture, geniality, and discipline by her old money and snobby parents. but she rebelled in her own way. so she’s a fun mix of, like, feminist, academic, snob and debauchery loving, chaos seeking, party girl.

CONNECTIONS.

i’m very basic so, y’know, all the classics. exes, party friends, fwbs, enemies...i’m better with plotting up stuff tailored to how we’ll think our muses will get on. so let’s brainstorm and come up with something wild and fun !!!

OH ALSO. since i have now seen every main chucky/childs play movie (except the 2019 attempted reboot one idk if i rly care enough about it to see it knowing that it just kinda got scrapped plot wise anyways LOL) here is my Official Mariska List Of Fav Chucky Movies

#1 - Seed Of Chucky. absolutely fucking bonkers, never seen anything like it and i doubt i ever will, it was so funny and Glen/Glenda was a wonderful character addition to the series who i sincerely hope shows up again sometime soon. where r they hiding that kid. bring em back i miss em. one of my fav movie plot twists that will ever exist is 'oh u thought this was celebrated superstar Jennifer Tilly? nah thats Tiffany the killer doll from Bride Of Chucky. Jennifer Tilly simply does not exist anymore.' LMAO

#2 - a tie between Bride Of Chucky & Cult Of Chucky. both very different style and genre wise but really good in execution i personally feel like; Tiff was obviously a genius character addition in Bride and i truly believe Ms Tilly revived the series in a way it needed to be able to go on as long as it has since. there are too many women protagonists in horror that i watch where it feels like they have to justify her anger, terror, killing etc etc and Tiff is such a great character because she and Chucky are truly a horrible awful match made in hell LMFAOO, they are both just horrible irredeemable serial killers and i genuinely love that. Let Women In Horror Just Be Evil!!!! now, Nica is obviously not that same brand of Evil Just For Being Evil but i think she is also a great addition to the series and im excited to see where they take her (or....yknow. maybe just Fiona in general since idk that shes really technically playing Nica anymore lol) with new movies/eps of the ongoing show (which i havent started yet but am very excited to). Fiona is an incredible actress and i think it was a great writing idea to make a role for her where it makes sense for her to be related to the main character in-universe as well as in real life; the whole ending sequence of Curse Of Chucky was really interesting i think and i love that as the series goes on we're getting to explore more of the backstory and lore of Charles™️ pre-doll possession. i could talk about Cult of Chucky for years on end; i absolutely loved the cinematography, throwbacks to older movies in the series and horror classics in general (ESPECIALLY the very 70's style split-screen/overlayed clips sections, really really cool and made me immediately think of the prom scene in Carrie or some scenes/themes/characters from the original Omen), and My God....Femme Chucky. i will NEVER recover from that. THAT is gender. also i really enjoy the social commentary in so many directions in Cult; the whole Chucky/Child's Play series has a lot of genuinely well written critiques on public perception of very heavy topics (the very corrupt adoption/foster care system in the US, military industrial complex, the consequences of glorifying/making 'celebrity' status out of serial killers, i could go on and on tbh) which is really refreshing for horror as a genre since it usually doesn't address any of that kinda stuff. its definitely not perfect rep by far, but personally as both a physically and mentally disabled person (and as someone who often has to use mobility aids to function though i am not a full time wheelchair user so that isnt my exact case) it was very refreshing to see that representation in Nica's character as well as having a spotlight put on the infantilization of disabled adult women/people perceived as being women or feminine and at the same time, the demonization of us, because they really go hand in hand very often and comedy-horror is the last genre i would've expected to get that validation of my life experience with. also i wish i looked as cool as femme Chucky and would love the opportunity to give Jennifer Tilly a kiss. hfksgddgddgsjfh

#3 - Child's Play 2. the late 80s and early 90's were such a great era for experimental horror and this one being released in 1990 is no exception; i am someone who absolutely loves the bright neon primary color aesthetic of that era and this movie was so much fun to watch even on that aesthetic basis alone. i really liked Kyle as a character and if i had grown up watching these movies as a kid or teen she 100% would have contributed to my lesbian realization way earlier in life than i actually had at like 19 LOL. she and Andy made great found family siblings and i think both actors did a great job with their roles!! also i think this is the first movie in the franchise where they really started leaning into the ridiculously campy comedic concept of a supernaturally possessed serial killer cabbage patch kid, the general pacing of the story felt a lot smoother to me than the first one which is no surprise i think since horror sequels to unexpected commercial hit movies tend to suddenly have a much bigger budget and better resources to work with than their previous installments. the whole final fight sequence was wild, the 80s/90s mcdonalds indoor playground aesthetic of the doll factory and the grotesque-ness of Chucky experiencing like ten different types of extreme body horror/torture is an absolute blast that had me cracking up and screaming at Kyle & Andy to just LEAVE THE BUILDING AS SOON AS HES DOWN LMFAOO CMON GUYS. HE LITERALLY DOES NOT DIE STOP WALKING UP TO HIS WEIRD DOLL BODY LIKE HES NOT GONNA GET UP AND JUMP U

#4 Child's Play (1988) - a classic and a good start to the series. wonderfully low budget 80s horror aesthetic is always fun for me to watch lol. a bit slow with the pacing but that is completely understandable as the first movie in the franchise and also the fact that they definitely needed to incorporate enough atmospheric horror elements to get movie audiences hooked for more before tossing them in the Camp Closet and locking the door behind them LMAO. the mom overacts in like every scene and its so funny i am obsessed with her character, also her friend being like gently tapped by Chucky with a hammer and doing a fucking gymnastic flip outside of the top apartment window is one of the funniest horror movie kills i have ever seen it cracks me up just thinking about it. that woman fucking LAUNCHED herself out of that window dude.

#5 - a tie between Child's Play 3 & Curse Of Chucky. i still liked these and enjoyed watching them, but they both feel very tonally different than the rest of the movies in a way that i personally felt was kinda boring; i personally am not a fan of most general 'action' movies or movies about military stuff so most of Child's Play 3 for me didn't grab my attention enough. i was more involved in feeling like i had to save the main kids from being in a military academy more than anything which is not the kinda mindset im looking to be in when im watching a series like Chucky lol, that's a very personal opinion though, i don't think its a 'bad' movie at all, just not really my kinda thing. same with Curse Of Chucky for slightly different reasons; as a stand alone horror movie it's fine, has kind of a vintage haunted house movie kinda vibe which was cool but it was too much atmospheric exposition for like 90% of the run time for me to fully enjoy it as much as i did with the others. again though, i dont think its a bad movie at all, just not fully my type of story. it did a great job establishing Nica's character and how her lore opens up a lot of doors to explore in the larger universe of the franchise; i am a sucker for established/in-depth backstories (i think mostly because my fav characters in a lot of media tend to be the ones that have little to no canon lore and i've always had a lot of fun writing/making my own headcanons for stuff like that) so i was very excited to see a new point of view added on to Charles Lee Ray pre-doll; you already know he's horrible and irredeemable just from watching all the other movies but the ending of Curse really added a heavy, more realistic sinister edge to his story and it's a good reminder that even though he's the main character and it's easy to kinda be like on his side cus its so fun to watch him cause chaos to everyone and everything around him, he IS a serial killer. he might make passive comments that he isnt 'really a monster' and occasionally kill some real scumbags who had it coming, but...he is ALSO a terrible scumbag who had it coming. i don't think he has an actual set of morals at all, Curse definitely adds to my opinion on that part of his character. in Cult he brutally kills the man who assaulted Nica, but we see a heavy implication of him doing the exact same behavior to Nica's mom at the end of Curse and it's honestly horrifying. in his monologue to Nica he straight up admits it; he takes pride in tearing families apart (another detail that was hinted a bit in earlier installments, like the line in Seed Of Chucky where he mentions killing Tiffany's mom who she was obviously very close with and still thinks about often) and ruining childhoods. i definitely would have enjoyed Curse more if the majority of the movie run time was dedicated to exploring the lore of the universe like the ending is.

[ MISCARRIAGE TW ] kyong daehyun was born in daegu, south korea on the 22nd of february 1997. they were sort of a miracle baby bc their mom went through two miscarriages before them ( she’s rh negative & the babies were rh positive n ,,, i wont explain the biology behind it, im sure yall know that ). they’re an only child. they’ve always wanted a sibling ( an older one ,,,, they always want the impossible things smfh ). so yeah, they were a bit lonely while growing up

they were a very weak child who’d fall ill quite often (their family used to call them aga/aggie/babybc of it … sorta stuck with them to this day ), so much that it affected their education. the poor bean skipped a lot of classes, so eventually their parents decided it was best for them to leave school. they were homeschooled !! altho they now have incredible work ethic bc of this, they didn’t have many friends while growing up :( they sorta didnt even get the chance to develop n test their social skills. they came in contact with their parents, nannies, parents’ business partners, etc … long story short, they were surrounded by adults. this made them VERY mature for their age, even back then.

the greatest discovery of their life was the internet. they had little interest in sports & going outside, so they’d spend their free time glued to the screen of their laptop, either watching movies, youtube videos & tv shows or getting to know strangers from across the world thanks to various websites & apps. they’d often stay up all night n ruin their sleep pattern in order to talk to their friends from other timezones. they made them so happy. so. happy.

their parents sort of made them pursuit a medical career, though, they literally have -10 interest in it. not 0. -10. they just want to make them proud, ok ?? especially since they’ve always been an incredible student n studying came easily to them. they were praised while growing up, so naturally they started thinking they were exceptional as well.

COLLEGE ! they. hate. it. hate it. like, they are fallin apart n are like “wow so what is this, i thought i was smart ?? they told me i was the most intelligent kid in the world wHY cant i do literally anything now w o w im so average yUCK”. i mean, they still get good grades, but they ARE struggling.

[ PROFESSOR/STUDENT RELATIONSHIP THING TW ] … idk maybe someone’s triggered by that. anyway, there was a class that made them 11/10 done with life & they were sure they’d fail it n ruin their entire life, so they approached the professor ( who ,,, was rly hot n made hyunnie weak in the knees ok ) n were like “i will literally do ANYTHING in order to pass this class ,,,,,, pls”. like, they had 0 shame bc they were so done with it. n ,,, long story short, they ended up sleeping with the professor … ,,, multiple times. t was bc of the grade the first time, but … they’re pretty much in love with him now. and they’re a bit foolish, they hope he’s in love with them too. n idk they sort of dream about being in a real relationship with them. l mao … my poor kiddo.

daehyun is a demiboy ( they/them or he/him. if you refer to them as she/her, they will feel uncomfortable, but they will not have the guts to correct you. lmao one time they watched a woman make them european-style pancakes with nutella & cherries, even though they asked for a nutella/banana combo. they did not correct her. they ate half of it, left with a pout on their face n were sad for the rest of the day tHATS HOW ANXIOUS N SHY THEY ARE BYE ). anyway, as i said —— demiboy. panromantic ( very romantic, a huge dreamer. the type to imagine cute scenarios with their crush before falling asleep ). pansexual, though the most attracted to masculine physique buT !! they’re too self-conscious n emotion-dependent that they can’t have sex with just about anyone. n o. byee. like, the thought of getting naked in front of someone is terrifying to them, so they really need to trust n know the person. i wouldn’t call them demisexual though, since they do experience sexual attraction without having an emotional bond, they just … can’t let go of their ~stupid insecurities~

[ FOOD TW ] they don’t eat meat. yes, they do love animals n feel sad about those poor things, but that’s not the main reason why they don’t eat it. the smell, the look, the taste of meat makes them incredibly sick. when they were smol & had any sort of meat for lunch, they’d sit at the table for 5 hours n eat everything BUT the meat. most of the time, they used to give it to their dog who was v chubby bc of them. lunch was the worst time of the whole day for them, it was suuuuuuuper bad, especially since their parents didn’t understand their problem n called them spoiled. now that they are away from home, they’re super happy cause they can eat whatever they want ( sweets n pastries ). this bish ALWAYS has a lollipop in their mouth n a candy bar with them.

why are they obsessed with lollipops ? thanks to them they destroy their nails n cuticles LESS when bored, since their mouth is occupied. you can determine how life’s goin for daehyun just by looking at their hands. when everything’s good, their nails are painted ( the execution n design also say a lot about how much free time they have n how clear their head is ). when everything’s shit, they aren’t painted, they are bloody and sore, skin completely damaged, so much that it hurts to touch items with the very tips of their fingers. everything burns n they’re wincing 25/8.

they always have literally everything with them. you need a tissue, a comb, a hair brush, a band-aid, a hand sanitizer, a nail polish, some water, something sweet, a set of stem cells & a cure for every illness in the world ?they have it all. they’re always prepared for every situation. this is bc of their huge fear of facing a situation for the first time unprepared. also … you should never make them order food on their own or make a serious phone call or wtvr bc .. they can’t do that.

they’re fluent in english, but pls don’t throw big words at them :( they feel so embarrassed when they don’t know what something means. they go home & write the new word on one of their colourful cards, along with its translation to korean, a smol explanation & an example sentence n they have loads of those cards that they reread whenever they have time. when they learn a new word, they love showing off lmao dumbass

while they were back in korea n spending time on youtube, they used to watch a lot of kpop mvs + makeup tutorials n fell in love with makeup n wanted to look as beautiful as the people in those videos. they started stealin their mother’s makeup n used to be awful at paintin’ their face, but got better with time. they used to save money for eyeliners n primers n highlighters n all sort of shit n they’d hide all the products in their room n play with them whenever they were home alone. they know it’s their true passion& call, but they are so discouraged by the fact that they can’t even walk outside wearing makeup. they aint confident enough & still don’t think they can pull it off.

they made a new youtube account with the intention to post their own tutorials, but … mm, there’s still 0 uploaded videos on that channel

i’ve been struggling to decide which hair colour to go with … black, platinum blonde, silver or pink n i chose …pink.

they’ve never been in an actual relationship. never cuddled, or did couple-y things. their professor took their virginity, so … ya. that’s one of the reasons why they’re refusing to let him go.

most of the time they’re like … “uhhhhh, people - i’d rather not. that can get me in a lot of awkward n uncomfortable situations n i’d rather avoid that’. they don’t find solitude depressing. they enjoy their alone time, they find comfort in it. they are very aware of the fact that their social skills suck & as i said a part of them doesn’t give a damn, but … another part is worried bc if they truly want to be in the makeup world, they will have to learn to be a people person, have a fantastic charisma n ,, talk to people ? lmao

hello hi hi, it’s SKY ( 2-o, biochem student myself, she/her, cest tz, but an insomniac ) & this is my smol blob of confusion, so if their story confuses you, i succeeded. also this is easily my absolute favourite character ever, so ,,, idk random info

SORTA BIO THING:

they were a very weak child who’d fall ill quite often ( their family used to call them aga/aggie/babybc of it … sorta stuck with them to this day ), so much that it affected their education. the poor bean skipped a lot of classes, so eventually their parents decided it was best for them to leave school. they were homeschooled !! altho they now have incredible work ethic bc of this, they didn’t have many friends while growing up :( they sorta didnt even get the chance to develop n test their social skills. they came in contact with their parents, nannies, parents’ business partners, etc … long story short, they were surrounded by adults. this made them VERY mature for their age, even back then.

their parents sort of made them pursuit a medical career ( currently biochem major ), though, they literally have -10 interest in it. not 0. -10. they just want to make them proud, ok ?? especially since they’ve always been an incredible student n studying came easily to them. they were praised while growing up, so naturally they started thinking they were exceptional as well.

they moved to the states bc COLLEGE ! they. hate. it. hate it. not the country, but the classes they are in. like, they are fallin apart n are like “wow so what is this, i thought i was smart ?? they told me i was the most intelligent kid in the world wHY cant i do literally anything now w o w im so average yUCK”. i mean, they still get good grades, but they ARE struggling.

COOLER INFO THING:

nicknames include: hyunnie, dee, mochi ( i have to steal that from jiminieeee bc yes. my squishy bol of cuteness ), aga/aggie/baby. or just call them hyun honestly

[ FOOD TW ] they don’t eat meat. yes, they do love animals n feel sad about those poor things, but that’s not the main reason why they don’t eat it. the smell, the look, the taste of meat makes them incredibly sick. when they were smol & had any sort of meat for lunch, they’d sit at the table for 5 hours n eat everything BUT the meat. most of the time, they used to give it to their dog who was v chubby bc of them. lunch was the worst time of the whole day for them, it was suuuuuuuper bad, especially since their parents didn’t understand their problem n called them spoiled. now that they live alone they’re super happy cause they can eat whatever they want ( sweets n pastries ). this bish ALWAYS has a lollipop in their mouth n a candy bar with them.

they always have literally everything with them. you need a tissue, a comb, a hair brush, a band-aid, a hand sanitizer, a nail polish, some water, something sweet, a set of stem cells & a cure for every illness in the world ? they have it all. they’re always prepared for every situation. this is bc of their huge fear of facing a situation for the first time unprepared. also … you should never make them order food on their own or make a serious phone call or wtvr bc .. they can’t do that. literally, coming to the US all alone was so tRAUMATIC you don’t even know.

while they were back in korea n spending time on youtube, they used to watch a lot of kpop mvs + makeup tutorials n fell in love with makeup n wanted to look as beautiful as the people in those videos. they started stealin their mother’s makeup n used to be awful at paintin’ their face, but got better with time. they used to save money for eyeliners n primers n highlighters n all sort of shit n they’d hide all the products in their room n play with them whenever they were home alone. they still do that now that they are in america & they know it’s their true passion & call, but they are so discouraged by the fact that they can’t even walk outside wearing makeup. they aint confident enough & still don’t think they can pull it off.

they made a new youtube account with the intention to post their own tutorials, but … mm, there’s still 0 uploaded videos on that channel

i’ve been struggling to decide which hair colour to go with … platinum blonde, silver or pink n i chose …pink. they’ve been dyeing it pink ever since they came to the states.

most of the time they’re like … “uhhhhh, people - i’d rather not. that can get me in a lot of awkward n uncomfortable situations n i’d rather avoid that’. they don’t find solitude depressing. they enjoy their alone time, they find comfort in it. they haven’t actually made an effort to make friends here ?? like …,,,.., i don’t think they care. they are very aware of the fact that their social skills suck & as i said a part of them doesn’t give a damn, but … another part is worried bc if they truly want to be in the makeup world, they will have to learn to be a people person, have a fantastic charisma n ,, talk to people ? lmao

once you demolish their shell, you’ll find the most adorable creature in the whole entire universe ?/ they also love tellin stupid jokes. they almost never finish them bc they laugh too hard at em

they get attached to people VERY easily n then they can’t live without them n that freaks them the fuck out. like. they fall in love ten times a day. im. not. kiddin.

they’re all about living life to the fullest, they just have a bit different vision of what true livin is lmao
