*convincing myself I have multiple simulator games that I like to avoid the temptation of the Steam spring sale*
#well I don't think I want to pay 30 Euro for a game like House Flipper 2 and that's the one I'm most interested in rn#and I'm sure the summer sale will have better prices#if nothing else bc hf 2 will be older at that point#but I haven't finished powerwashing simulator and I have failed terribly at planet zoo a lot#and I have the sims both 2 3 and 4 for building houses#I even have the pack that gives you the interior design job in the sims 4 and that's basically house flipper#(unfortunately it was broken the last time I played and my client just left)

Dream Town Makeover: Mini-Save File and Challenge
The Story:
With the loss of all its industries, Evergreen Harbor became a severely depressed area. The government took notice and has begun a project of green urban renewal here: they have passed some new green policies and are working on more, and they’re flooding the area with improvement grants, creating jobs in city planning, green technologies, commissioned public art, and more. You are an aspiring interior designer who is thrilled by the prospect of redesigning and revitalizing Evergreen Harbor's many dilapidated houses, old train- and shipyards, defunct factories, and small, cramped apartments. Your brain is filled with visions of light, airy, modern, open-plan spaces, reclaimed shipping container tiny homes, old train cars turned into cafes, junkyard salvage repurposed to furnish chic industrial apartments. Time to roll up your sleeves, build a client roster, level up your handiness skill, vote for improvements to the local apartment buildings, and otherwise get busy!
The Backstory:
I’ve always thought that Eco Lifestyle and Dream Home Decorator make an excellent pack pairing: Eco Lifestyle lets you change the open parts of Evergreen Harbor through gameplay, and Dream Home Decorator lets you change lots through gameplay, so together you get the whole shebang! But there’s a pretty major problem with trying to do this in the default save: namely, interior decorator gigs generate at random using all the occupied and community lots in all the worlds. So the more packs you own, the more worlds and lots you have, the less likely you are to be randomly assigned gigs in Evergreen Harbor. This mini save file aims to enable you to play out this excellent pack pairing by having absolutely nothing and no one in any other world except Evergreen Harbor, so that 100% of your randomly generated gigs will be in this world. And while I was at it, I also went around and ensured that all the lots would start out rundown, outdated, dysfunctional, and otherwise gross. It’s just more fun to make over stuff that’s lousy to begin with.
Save file specs:
The only world with anyone or anything in it is Evergreen Harbor, to keep your interior decorator gig options focused on revitalizing this area. Neighborhood stories is completely disabled for everyone, even unplayed households, to prevent randos from moving into other worlds and muddying your gig list. Aging also begins disabled, though you may turn this back on if you wish—that’s just down to personal preference.
E.H. is fully populated, except for one living space per neighborhood in which your interior designer sim will live (you have to be a resident of a neighborhood in order to vote for improvements, so you'll need to move around a bit). Patina Wainscot is your default interior designer, but you should feel free to just move her in with one of her many relatives and replace her with your own sim if that’s how you’d rather do the challenge. Each of the other households has sims whose careers and preferences have been deliberately set to make sense and give you plenty of renovation guidance--they rarely have dislikes, for example, so you have positive guidance on what to build. Be sure to read their family bios and ask about their careers, as this will give you some good directions, too! If you don't have certain packs, some sims' careers may not show (conservationists from Island Living, political activists from City Living, etc.), but this shouldn't impact the game too much.
Community lots all start out set to generic, so you’ll need to manually set the lot type to whatever you envision the space becoming at the start of your game. I have done this so that you can set your own aspirations for these spaces based on the packs you actually own—if I had pre-set the train car to “Cafe,” for example, and you didn’t own Get Together, that lot would simply disappear. This save file is a canvas for YOUR vision of Evergreen Harbor. I make some suggestions via the lot descriptions and the ambitions of the people in the town, but ultimately, the direction this takes is completely up to you.
Dream Town Makeover Challenge Rules:
One sim, one vote! Even if you have the influence to spam an N.A.P., you must use it to convince other sims to vote for your preferred measure instead of piling votes on it yourself. You may also not cheat N.A.P.s away--use the repeal process! You’ll need to do quite a bit of this, as all neighborhoods begin maxed out on N.A.P.s. This ensures that you get to do the gameplay associated with improving each neighborhood, rather than it just happening in the background without you. So here’s the gameplay:
Your N.A.P. goal is to repeal two N.A.P.s of your choice in each neighborhood, and replace them with Modern Development and Green Initiatives to revitalize the town.
Once you have passed both initiatives in a neighborhood, you will need to move to the next one in order to vote there and start the process over again. This means that the challenge will take a minimum of 12 in-game weeks (or three sim years) to complete—4 weeks per neighborhood.
You are a green interior decorator! That means your handiness goal is to apply eco upgrades to all new appliances you install as part of a renovation. Work on that handiness skill and stock up on upgrade parts before you head out to a gig!
Your lot goal is to remove negative lot traits from the spaces you renovate and add positive ones. Depending on the packs you own, you may or may not even have all of these lot traits, so you may simply ignore anything you don’t own. But do what you can with the packs you have. Here’s the guide:
Currently, all groundwater in Evergreen Harbor is contaminated, so all lots have the "Grody" challenge. This can only be removed when a neighborhood passes "Green Initiatives," which uses phytoremediation to clean the aquifers. After you pass this N.A.P., remove “Grody” from all lots in that neighborhood, and replace it with “Natural Well.”
Most places are also "Filthy," and may potentially be infested with “Mold.” You may remove either or both of these lot challenges if you have completely renovated a lot--one room doesn't count!
You may not take renovation gigs in any of the apartments before Modern Development gets passed in that apartment’s neighborhood—nor may you make any structural changes to your own apartment (this includes changing wallpaper and flooring). In this story, Modern Development = landlord’s permission to make structural changes to the space. Once this N.A.P. is in place and you have used its newly expanded windows to good effect with your renovation, you may add the “Natural Light” trait to the renovated apartments.
Traditional-style houses and apartments all have “Maintenance Issues.” You may remove this challenge if you have replaced AND applied eco upgrades to all appliances on the lot.
If you have both Seasons and For Rent, you can play out replacing outdated heating and cooling systems with geothermal. Just remove all the cast iron radiators and box air conditioners from a lot and add a thermostat. Once you have done that, you may add the “Geothermal” lot trait!
None of Port Promise is grid connected, so all lots there are “Off-the-Grid.” You may connect them to the grid only after Modern Development is passed in Port Promise, rezoning the area for homes and businesses.
The whole city is overrun with raccoons, in the form of "Cat Hangout" being on every lot (I have gone through and manually changed all stray cats in this save file into raccoons). Lock your door if you don't want them in your house! There are two conditions required to remove them: 1) Some N.A.P. that cleans up the trash in the public areas of the neighborhood is passed (either Green Initiatives or Modern Development will do this), and 2) You have completely renovated the lot to remove all stray garbage from the lot itself. Once the trash is gone, the trash pandas go, too!*
This one isn’t a part of the challenge, but just so you know what’s up: "Reduce and Recycle" is a permanent lot challenge everywhere except the Pinecrest Apartments, which have a trash chute. No getting rid of this one—that's just the way city garbage collection works!
You win the challenge when you have completely made over every single lot in Evergreen Harbor, changed the lot traits via the rules above, and passed Green Initiatives and Modern Development in every neighborhood.** Good luck!
*Pro Tip: for some truly adorable chaos, pass the “We Wear Bags” N.A.P. before you remove the raccoons. With this N.A.P. active, all the raccoons will show up in little hats, and it is delightfully ridiculous!
**Note: You are, obviously, totally welcome to play other sims in this save file at any time before, after, or during working on this challenge. They each have their own ambitions, as stated in their family bios, and (with a few exceptions, mostly elders) begin at low levels of their careers and skills, so you can have fun playing out their dreams as stretch goals or side quests.
Save file requirements:
This mini save file is not limited in terms of packs I used while creating it. However, since the whole point is basically for you to personally redo everything, there aren’t many packs you actually need in order to play this challenge. All that will happen if you don’t have some of the packs I used during setup is that items in the original, ugly versions of lots may be replaced or missing. But you’re about to replace them with your own designs anyway, so this is no big deal!
You also may not be able to play with certain features, but they are also basically non-essential (if you don’t have Cats & Dogs, for example, the city will not be overrun with raccoons, so you won’t play that particular aspect of the challenge). And while the sims of Evergreen Harbor often do have careers drawn from other packs (Knox Greenburg is an activist with “Speak for the Trees,” which came with City Living, for example), I have taken care to only use CAS content from the required packs, so no one should appear naked or bald for you, even if you don’t have any of the optional packs. So, with all of that preamble, here are the . . .
Required packs:
Eco Lifestyle – This whole save file is just Evergreen Harbor, so if you don’t have Eco Lifestyle, you won’t even be able to see it.
Dream Home Decorator – The entire gameplay concept and challenge at the foundation of this save file is the interior design career, so you really do need this pack to play it.
That’s it! Everything else is gravy. But the gravy is pretty good! Here are some highlights from recommended-but-completely-optional packs:
If you have Island Living, the save file starts with the electrical global policies in place, so there will be lots of power outages in Evergreen Harbor. I deleted the sim I used to enact them, so if you want to remove them as a stretch goal, I suggest playing with Summer Wainscot (or your own Conservationist). Work your way high enough in the career to become an Environmental Manager, and then you can repeal some of the global policies that haven’t worked—or put new ones in place. The organic food one would go especially well once you’ve established Bobby Wainscot’s urban food forest.
If you have For Rent, lots of houses will have “Maintenance Troubles,” “Mold,” and/or the many additional utilities appliances that came with that pack, making playing in those houses more eventful and chaotic. Plus, you can split the two families in the side-by-side houses in Grims Quarry into two separate households, turn the old storage lockers on the docks into micro apartments, and otherwise have fun with the features of this pack.
If you have Get to Work, Spa Day, Cats & Dogs, Dine Out, and/or High School Years, you can actually own/open the kinds of businesses some of the sims in this save file dream of starting with their small business grants, which is fun gameplay. Plus Cats & Dogs gets you the raccoons.
If you have City Living, you can play through the process of raising money and doing charity organizing work with Speak for the Trees as Knox Greenburg, which I’ve always felt was especially appropriate gameplay for him and really lets the whole “Eco Master” thing become active.
If you have Discover University, Claire Waxton will start out with a Biology degree and bunch of student loan debt, which acts as an extra challenge if you decide to play out her ambition of running a successful home candlemaking business.
If you have Seasons, all the kids in town (plus Jeb Harris) will be in Scouts, and you’ll see that holidays are a bit modified: the people of E.H. reject the consumerism of Winterfest and Love Day, so those holidays are gone, along with all traditions about adding decorations. But they love New Year’s resolutions, and celebrate New Year’s Eve with a Polar Bear Plunge in the quarry. And they love the spirit of gratitude that comes with Harvestfest, which they’ve leaned into even more by remembering the seven principles with a Kinara. Plus, they really value community, so they throw a Neighborhood Block Party on the first day of summer every year.
If you have Get Together, there will be a few clubs for the people in town, most of which are divided out by age category and two of which are just there as a little nod to the text for the “Back to the Old Days” N.A.P.
No mods are required for this save file!
Credits:
I used Srsly’s Blank Save as the base for this save file. A huge thank you to Srsly for keeping a totally unpopulated, completely bulldozed save file available to the public! It makes the work on contained mini save files like this SO much shorter.
All the sims in this save file are by Maxis, though one, Claire Waxton, is a recreation of an EA trailer sim the team never officially released. The recreation was done by SimpleSquare. I also ran out of sims from Eco Lifestyle and Dream Home Decorator before I ran out of space in the town, so I wound up doing a pack-limited makeover of the Parenthood trailer family to round out the community. They are still by Maxis, just with looks by me to remove the Parenthood content.
The original creators of all the starting lots are listed on the Evergreen Harbor map at the top of this post. Most of these lots were edited by me to a greater or lesser extent, but the overwhelming majority of the credit goes to the original creators' incredible creativity. Thanks to all the featured creators!
How to Download:
Step 1: Backup your existing saves. To do this, go into MyDocuments/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 and right-click on the folder titled “saves.” Select “copy,” then paste the folder to any other location on your computer. I usually just copy it to the desktop so I don’t lose it, but you may have an alternative hard drive or other location where you like to back up your saves.
Step 2: Download and unzip the Dream Town Makeover save file, but DO NOT PUT IT IN YOUR MODS FOLDER! Put it in the saves folder instead (MyDocuments/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/saves). If the number of the save file matches the number for a save you already have in game, change it to any number you do not already have a copy of, but keep the same number of digits. To get more specific: by default the Dream Town Makeover file name is “Slot_12162024.save” and if you happen to have another save file with that exact same file name (unlikely), the game will overwrite one with the other. If that’s true for you, you can change the file name to “Slot_12162025.save” or “Slot_22162024.save” or anything else that replaces a digit with a different digit, but you cannot change it to “Slot_1.save” because the game needs a total of eight digits in the file name to run the save properly.
Step 3: Open your game, click the save file titled “Dream Town Makeover,” and start playing!
Download the Dream Town Makeover save file
P. S.: I wanted to make Evergreen Harbor feel like a really established community, so households are quite interlinked (except for the Tinkers, who are brand-new to town), and there is A LOT of tea in this save file. Have fun discovering it all!

Cars Expansion Pack
What would make "Cars" big enough for an Expansion? I had to think about this one. But the answer came quickly once I got started. What's the one thing that makes a pack worthy of being called an expansion...A new World. So, what if we got a new world that was designed to be routable... So, not a completely open world, but a more routable world so you see your sim driving.
As for the previous worlds, we would only have animations like TS2 where you pull out onto the street and then they disappear. But what about a world made for cars. A world with car washes, used car lots, mechanic shops, chop shops, car lots that sell lemons but you work your way up to selling expensive cars, collectable cars, classic car shows you could enter and win prices. New clothes and hairs (naturally), new radio station, new woohoo spots (could you imagine coming out of the car wash with bubbles all over you. They've done dumber.) and maybe even a tv channel showing race cars.
And for builders they have new lots to create. EA loves builders. They could even add on to the Interior Designer career if they had job orders to build a fancy garage or organize the home garage. New shelves, tools, hang bikes up etc. We'd get decor for organizing the garage and maybe even think big like IRON MAN, he had a cool garage! Teens could need driving permits and of course the return of the fixer-upper.
Teens could break curfew and take off in the car late at night or we could get burglars back with the pack and have to put car alarms or they get stolen. Naturally you would have moodlets for and relationships with the car (Christine), and this would also give new aspirations and careers. Careers could span from car salesman, to race car driver, to drivers ed teacher.
New traits like Car Enthusiast, and the introduction of the Mechanical Skill (new hobby). Maybe the new Aspiration would be to own 10 cars worth a million dollars. An Aspiration to sell 50 cars. An Aspiration to win a car show or refurbish a car and sell it for a certain amount. Maybe they even add motorcycles back from TS3. Ahh, just think of the hot girls in those cool bikers jumpsuits.
They could also bring police back with a police car to give you a speeding ticket right as you pulled up to your location. LOL But a new world would be a reason to put the EP price tag if it was designed in such a way that you have larger routable areas and the town had maybe 3 neighborhoods that offered something special.
Maybe one hood is for the car show "festival", another is for the chop shop and mechanics in a more urban or rural setting, and the third could be for the high end cars for the rich and famous. You know, the cars on petal stools spinning high up with the lights flashing like they are trying to send the batman signal. LOL Well, maybe not that grand but something like it. Anyway, Yeah. I'd move my sim there.
Plus they could add in the transportation that TS2 had, where school busses and taxi cabs magically appear in front of the house to take you to school and work, only to blast the horn annoying the neighbors until you finally get in the vehicle before it slowly pushes forward and then disappears into thin air. LOL It was great in TS2. I wouldn't even mind them surprising us with a helicopter, since they already have them in San Myshuno already. LOL Anyway, Yeah. I could see cars as an EP, if they did all of that!

With the upcoming Parenthood gamepack, I feel like it's the perfect time to share some tips regarding the tidious process of furnishing younger sims rooms. Some people love it, some don't but we're all on the same page regarding this fact : they all tend to look exactly the same.
It's not only due to the lack of contents for younger sims – which the new pack will partially resolve. But mainly because we all have our own aesthetic, tastes and favorite items and it's hard to put them on hold, even for once. Since I've noticed my kids rooms similarities I tried the hardest to make unique creations which fit their personalities.
Plus, for story-telling purpose it's always good to have very different locations with unique ambiances to visit. With some easy steps, I'll show you how I customize my kids rooms. Of course, there's not only a way to do so. There's endless possibilities and methods. If you check others simmers pictures, you’ll see incredibles ideas and hacks !
The Sims 4 motto is based on uniqueness of each sims. We all agreed that our virtual families still need improvements but it's on a good way. Nevertheless, kids already have a good amont of traits to choose from. Traits can be used a a direction to customize their personal space : active sims can have a ball in a corner, book-worm books near their bed, foodie some fruits posters hang here and there... Same goes for their aspiration !
Imagine walking in your friend's room for the first time : you've some clues of their personalities and tastes by just by taking a look. I try to have the same feelings with my sims.
In general, simmers tend to make “girls rooms” and “boys rooms” with some very significant changes depending on the gender of the kid. I used to do the same but since awhile I like to have neutral gender rooms - or at least, less “genderized” rooms.
Of course, it’s not really obvious at the first look but I’m really working on it. I sincerly think it’s more realistic to have “neutral rooms” for kids because all girls don’t like princess and dolls, and all boys don’t like trucks and robots. It’s more complex than that. Time to time I put some “boys games” on girls rooms and vice versa. I really encourage you to, at least, give it a try and see what happens !
Whatever is your gameplay, some of your sims most likely have a background you imagined or shaped for them. That's my case : I do know their names and what they went through. I've some kids who live in two separate houses because their parents are now divorced ; Kids who don't like to spend their time inside and prefer to play with neighbours ; Kids who just love video games and TV so much ; Kids who live with their grand-parents or uncles and aunts ; Some who've lost their parents and a few of them are adopted.
Well, you've the picture : it's all very diverse and for me it's essential to find this diversity in my kids rooms. For example, adopted kids tend to have tons of toys, new clothes and stuff because I imagine the parents to be so happy to have a kid that they just can't stop buying things. Plus, they waited a very long time to welcome this little girl or boy !
At the opposite, kids who live in fosters homes (I actually have 2), do not have a lot of personal stuff. Their room is nice but it obviously lacks of customization because it's not really « their » home and it's an awkward situation for them. Each background can explain how the room is actually set up. Their room must be just like reading a story. Theirs.
Small houses, manors, cottage, loft, apartments, all kids don't belong to the same social group. And, obviously, their families don't have the same financial funds.
If you want to be realistic, try to fit the household revenue : poor families usually don't have a lot of things to give to their kids, and as a consequence their room might be a little bit empty. If it's a large families, kids tend to have missmatched items because they got stuff from older siblings, cousins, sales or maybe even from charity. Also, if your sims have siblings and they do share their room with them, try to give everyone a small space : it can be a special item that the other one won't ever use, a color theme, photos of their friends, an half-wall... pretty much anything !
I usually make 3 differents spaces in a kids room :
a space to play
a slace to learn
a slace to rest
You can underline these various areas with rugs or differents colors. Last but not least, if your sims share their room with a twins, a older or younger siblings try to make it look obvious who's spot is who's.
Small or big ? Depending on your house layout or household funds, the kids rooms is still an important part of your lot.
I usually took about 1,5K up to 3K to furnish them. Here in France, Kids are a big part of our culture. There's a lot of stuff specific for them (clothes or food lines, objects, parties, special vacations...). For example, when you buy a house here, kids rooms are bigger than parents ones – which is not the case in other architural styles. Anyway, if I've a several kids in a sims family in like to put the younger one near to the parents bedrooms or downstairs (easier to keep an eye on).
As for the actual proportions, it's really up to you : do you want to give a lot of space to your kids ? or do you don't really care that much of what they're doing ? do you plan to take a lot of screenshots inside ? All of these are questions you should adress at some point ; especially the last one. If you want to take pictures of your kids sims playing, try to make a square room (6x6 is a good start). I think square room is the easiest to play with.
But your sims can also have a room in the attic, or a really tiny one... If you don't have a lot of space you'll need to prioritize what's the most important for them : a quiet place to do their homework ? somewhere to do some crazy experiments ? or just chill and dance to some pop music ? There's so much they can do and such a little space to fill ! In my game, I usually put 2 activities per kids rooms (for example, piano or a radio for shy sims who don't want to show off their poor skills to their families).
There's a fair amount of things kids can do – even with the base game only ! They can dance, play instruments, collect things... If your sims love to do something, feel free to gives some hints here and there.
In my game, I love to see my kids collecting and if they bring something I end up by placing the new item on a shelf, their desk or near their windows. I think it's a cute addition and it makes their personnal space a little bit more 'special' (''Look ! It's Trevor... I think he's depress''). You can also pretend that your kids have a lot more of things going on by placing items under their beds or on top of their dressers.
For my kids rooms I usually ending up by picking 2 or 3 main colors with some neutral tons such as white, beige or even brown. Since a few months, I try to use a swatch I never really paid attention to as a start (a rug, a lamp or even a door). There's so much awesome objects we've and that we barely use. For real, I often discover new swatches and I doubt some people know that it even exist ! So dig the swatches more and try to pick this color as a pattern.
All colors have a meaning and I like to give colors following their personnalities or past. Also, don't use too much bright colors as main patterns : it's a real headache when you're plaing... and don't make all your room with one color like yellow walls, yellow bed, yellow toys. It's not realistic and it's not really pretty – according to me, it's just my personal thought. Play with the complementary colors, the textures and the lightings !
Well, most kids are afraid of the dark. So you have to put extra lightings comparing to an adult room (and no candles, please, lol). Some lights in the game are way too bright in small rooms and some don't even do their job. For kids rooms I use some weak hanging light (or I just decrease their brightness) and I add some floor lamps and wall-lights (about 3 or 4). What I love to do is to automatically deactivate all lights, except one. Then, when they're asleep they only have their very cute lighting shining in the darkness. Besides, you can chose another color light which is a really cute addition.
We can't tell it more : clutter is life ! Put some mess, hang their paintings on the walls, size up some items to make it look different, it's all up to you. Dig the debug objects catalogue and re-use items differently. Hang posters, overlap stickers.. Be imaginative !

The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack was announced the other week and has the Simming community extremely excited. It’s been a long time coming, but it finally delivers some much needed family-oriented gameplay that The Sims 4 needed. Until now, other content has focused more around parties, gatherings, activities and jobs.
Game Packs are a great way for EA to plug the gap with content as they’re essentially mini expansion packs. The Sims 4 Vampires, for example, was impressive and in my view it seems to be the new path EA are going down. Especially as we only have 3 expansion packs, which isn’t many considering The Sims 4 will be 3 years old in September.
So what is The Sims 4 Parenthood, you ask? I was a bit confused until I read further into the game description as to what it actually consisted of, and in a nutshell I would say it is the spiritual successor to The Sims 3 Generations. And of course, the question on everyone’s mind is whether it’s good and worth your money, and that’s what we’re about to tell you in our review.
New Hairstyles, Clothing, and More for All Life Stages
Create A Sim offers a variety of new items for your Sims, and not just for adults either! Children also have a variety of new clothing and outfits to select from, which is great to see.
Let’s start off with the negative – I am disappointed that there isn’t really anything new for toddlers. Sure, they are still new to the game but this pack would have been the PERFECT opportunity to really give them some new things to wear. There are two new outfits for your tots, and one accessory, but apart from that. I feel it’s a missed opportunity.

Kids have one brand new hairstyle and a selection of new trousers, tops, and outfits – including a new bear costume which I am sure many will be happy about! This particular outfit comes in a variety of different colours so you can create your Sims-inspired Care Bears if you wish. I also really like the feminine denim dungarees included for children, this has to be one of my new favourite items which I will be dressing all my Sims’ kids in.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Teens, Adults, and Elders also have quite a few new clothing and hairstyle options to choose from, so every age group has something new to wear in The Sims 4 Parenthood.
Like I mentioned earlier, it would have been nice to see less for these life stages and more for toddlers, but perhaps that void can be filled in the future with a stuff pack.
For Men/Masculine Sims, there is also the addition of new facial hair too, which is a nice addition.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
For Female/Feminine Sims, there’s a nice mixture of clothing and some really good hairstyles too that I like and can see myself using often when playing The Sims 4.
The hairstyles with the highlights are quirky and may be appropriate for storytelling with rebellious teens, or young adult Sims and their new families. You can thank me later for giving you that idea.

As you can see, there’s a lot of new items in Create A Sim that come with The Sims 4 Parenthood. Most of them are decent, some are not so great, but overall it’s a nice offering and I think many will be happy with it.
Build, Buy, and Stylised Rooms
The Sims 4 Parenthood is jam packed with new items in build/buy mode! The pack contains a good selection which will allow you to deck out your home in style.
From new kitchen cabinets (finally!), to nice coffee tables, clutter, and new items that bring along new gameplay, it’s all found in this pack.
One of my FAVOURITE items is the new coffee table, which you can see in the image above to the left. It’s 2×2 tiles in size and is a great addition to any home, and perfect for popping plenty of clutter and decorative items on top. For those laundry fans, there’s also a decorative laundry hamper too 😉
You may notice lot’s of boxes as well. This is new gameplay and is essentially projects that kids can work on, and their parents can join in to help them! This is a great way for them to build relationships, work on their skills (e.g. motor skill), and create something awesome, such as an erupting volcano like you’d expect at a science fair!
This can increase character values for kids, such as responsibility, and the parenting skill for adults (more on both of these later!)
In addition to this, there’s some new items in build mode too. This includes a new door and wallpaper for your home.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
There are also four new stylised rooms that are in build mode to make it easy for you to create the perfect build for the Parenthood Game Pack, or for inspiration of how you can use these new, colourful items. The Maxis team have done another great job at designing these rooms, which are perfect for people like me who are awful at creating interiors!
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
These stylised rooms consist of a new dining room, a living room, and two new bedrooms for your Sims.
Overall, I am happy with the new items in build/buy in The Sims 4 Parenthood. To be honest, it’s worth it alone for that coffee table that I am obsessed with. But not only that, so many of these objects are bright, colourful, and fit in nicely with the theme of Parenthood, allowing you to upgrade your Sims’ family homes.
Parenting Isn’t An Easy Task
The Sims 4 Parenthood introduces the brand new parenting skill, which all adults can now learn. This is important for any of your Sims who are looking to raise children that are well behaved, as your parenting now has consequences if you don’t do it well!
There are a variety of ways in which Sims can increase their parenting skill. This includes researching on the computer, reading skill books, or by doing actual parenting itself. And this is the only way you can reach the top levels of the skill.
It’s down to your Sims to now decide what behaviour they want to encourage, or discourage, which will help shape how your child will end up. If your toddler is making a mess, for example, you can choose between two options – a calm approach, or a more stricter yelling, depending on how you wish to parent.
You can also now guide your children through particular tasks, and like before it can be done in a calmer way where you try to influence them to clean the dishes or go to bed. But the more troublesome kids may need a more stricter approach, so you could give them no option but to do as you say!
Now one thing which I think is pretty awesome is that you can also use these new found abilities to temporarily solve some of their needs, such as hygiene or hunger. You could influence your child to have a snack, to hold off their hunger, or dust themselves off so that they’re quickly cleaned up.
You can also teach your toddlers and children new things, for example, the addition of teaching them to say please and thank you, or how to say sorry, helps their character values in a positive manner.
This new parenting skill is a fantastic addition to The Sims 4, and I think it will be adored by generational players. Parenting in the real world is a skill and you get better with the more experience you have, so it only seems logical to have a similar system in The Sims.
Character Values Change Sims’ Behaviours… For Better and Worse
Character Values are another new addition with The Sims 4 Parenthood, which we recently shared information about on our website.
Character Values determine a Sim’s ability to adapt and behave effectively in their everyday life, and there are 5 different character values that can be developed positively or negatively:
Manners
Responsibility
Conflict Resolution
Empathy
Emotional Control
Toddlers, Children, and Teens can all gain or lose values based on their actions and how their parents utilise their newly found parenting skills. The really interesting thing about these character values, though, is that once a Sim becomes a Young Adult, these values are locked in and they will receive a unique trait depending on where their values lie – which is all down to how well your Sims do as parents!
You can access your Sim’s character values within the Simology panel, and you can see how well or bad your Sim is doing. To get tips on how to influence the value, you can simply hover over the value. This is useful as otherwise players may have found it difficult to work out how to influence each of these.
The traits you select for your Sims initially in Create A Sim could potentially influence their character values from the get-go. This is pretty awesome as everyone behaves differently in real life, so this extra touch makes it even more important for you to select appropriate traits and not just dish out random ones. For example, a Sim with the Slob trait will start with a bit of negative manners, but they can be influenced in the right (or wrong) direction.
There are tonnes of behaviours that your Sim’s – both parents and children – can perform to contribute positively or negatively to these five values. For example, to positively contribute to emotional control, you could play instruments when in a negative mood, or jog to clear mind. On the other hand, if you wanted to negatively contribute to it, you could shove or bite another sim, or smash a dollhouse!
Character values, paired with the new parenting skill, really open a whole new dimension to generational and family-based gameplay in The Sims 4 which makes the process more realistic and rewarding, as you have something to show for your Sim’s effort at the end of it all.
There’s so many small tidbits which adds to the experience, even your Sims shouting “forbidden words”. When that arises, you can go one step further and discipline your children now.
Discipline… to the chokey with you!
Now while discipline in The Sims 4 Parenthood isn’t like the approach found in the film Matilda, it is an important part of making sure your children listen to you. While things we’ve previously spoken about, such as discouraging them to do particular things, comes into play with discipline, there’s also more to it than just that.
A child won’t always react to discipline in the same way every time you do it. Sometimes they may listen, sometimes they will try to push your buttons and ignore you, continuing to do what they want.
A new object has been added which gives you some control over things such as curfew. Similar to that found in The Sims 3, this is the time that you expect your Sim to return to the house by in the evenings. It’s up to you how strict, or lenient, you are and you can select a variety of different times based on this.
If your Sim’s do keep rejecting your calm or strict words of warning, then there is only one other solution that remains… they’re GROUNDED!
Grounding lasts for one day in the game and the parent can choose which one of the child’s favourite activities to ground them from. The more obedient Sims may listen to this and follow the rules now that they are grounded. But, The Sims being The Sims, you can push this if you like and try to get your Sims to get away with more. If they are caught breaking the rules, they can be grounded again.
Are you ready for Parenthood?
The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack offers a lot of new content that is clearly aimed at generational players who are looking to expand gameplay for their Sim families.
I’m happy to say that from playing with the game pack, it does just that. By bundling together new gameplay, the parenting skill, character values, and new interactions between children and parents. A pack like this is long overdue with a lot of heavy feedback saying that family gameplay was needed, and it’s good to see Maxis finally responding to that.
I am not a generational playe0r myself, so I am unsure of how much I will take advantage of all of these new features until I play it more over the coming weeks and months, but this is yet another solid game pack that I think everyone will enjoy.
You can find our final score and breakdown for this game pack below. The Sims 4 Parenthood launches on May 30th worldwide on Origin.
Are your Sims ready for Parenthood? Find out if the latest game pack is worth it! #TheSims4 The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack was announced the other week and has the Simming community extremely excited.

Most useful Journey Sim Game - Why I favor Flight lead Simulator
Flight sim games are used by civil aviation and the military to train their pilots in difficult and vital situations such as engine failures, malfunctions in systems - e.g. hydraulic or electrical - or the cockpit instruments. The training is conducted through flight sim games to gain experience and practice for untoward incidents.
The flight sim games then train pilots in substitute plane and models and acquaint them in imitation of the changing systems and controls. Night flying and different, usually extreme, weather conditions are simulated as without difficulty to test and train the pilots.
The unbelievable issue is that these thesame flight sim games are genial to us all. As always there is a wide variety in terms of air but you can acquire some well enough priced high-end games that add up good graphics when attainable systems and controls. Scenery has become realistic and blooming - as you fake through the proclaim on your flight the surrounding countryside will fine-tune to reflect your supplementary face and the planets and sun will get used to their positions to yours.
Sound effects are other major progress addendum to the verisimilitude of flight sim games. Whether it is the noises within the cockpit, the clicking and whirring of the govern panel, the vibration of the instruments or the impact of the weather on the flight, they every heighten the incorporation of flying. Ejector seats to bail out just before crashing are supported in some flight sim games.
Flight sim games are captivating fun because they replicate the risks and stresses of real sparkle but allow us to be in direct of each and every aspect of the event at the same time. #LadyBoss: redefining what a boss looks like
Too many of us grew up only seeing one kind of boss or leader in the media. The lack of representation for other groups reinforced harmful stereotypes and acted as a self-fulfilling prophesy, but would our opinion of what a leader looks like be different if the media did a better job at representing the true diversity of leadership in America?
Women and other under-represented groups are already leading many great companies, organizations, & academic institutions; others are authoring best-sellers, building engaged audiences, leading movements and more.
We had the honor of connecting with many of the best and brightest female leaders from in and around the city and we asked them our question of the month: What is the best advice you have for someone who feels like they are facing insurmountable odds.
We encourage you to check out the female leaders we’ve highlighted below, follow them on social media if you find their work or story interesting and most importantly do your part to #fightstereotypes.

When I am facing a challenge that I feel is insurmountable I meditate. Meditation helps to calm the mind and provide a space for clear thinking. There are a few questions I typically ask myself. 1) Is this a life or death situation? Most challenges are not life or death. After you have children, situations no longer feel so overwhelming. Life is precious and that reality has an uncanny way of anchoring oneself. 2) What long term effect will this challenge present? Identifying long term effects can really drive decisions and move us forward. Not taking action is a decision and sometimes it’s appropriate and feels better not to act; other times making a choice to take action allows us to have more control. Fear can be healthy. When I chose to change careers and go back to school I was overwhelmed, but I pushed through the fear and did it! 20 years later, I’m adding adjunct faculty to my area of expertise. A little fear can be a good thing. May you blessed with options of your choosing. Live well and with beauty.

Challenges spur growth — stay focused on trying to grow, rather than trying to beat the challenge. This mindset puts failure into perspective, and helps me to appreciate how far I’ve come instead of fixating on the areas that I’m not perfect in. When you cut yourself some slack, challenges suddenly don’t feel so daunting. I look at past accomplishments, remind myself that I’m capable, and face challenges with my head up. Trust the path you’re on, and take it one step at a time.

As a Christian, I feel it is so important to turn to the Lord when things seem impossible. There is nothing He brings into your life that you cannot handle. Live each day one day at a time. Use the challenges you are facing as a lesson + learn from it, to one day share your experience with others who may face the same thing as you. In the mean time, coffee + bubble baths help too (:

I think mindset is key to overcoming obstacles. Envisioning the challenge being completed and the feeling of gratification you will get from it helps set the stage for what’s to come. I am a firm believer in the message “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right”

All of us at one point or another have faced or will face a challenge we feel is insurmountable. Did you catch that key word….”Feel”? In this day and age we live in, there can be too much focus or unhealthy obsession with our “feelings”. Those “feelings” can create bad habits, addictions, and make us choose a different life path that maybe we might not have chosen. So how do we overcome these “feelings” when we are faced with a insurmountable challenge? Ask yourself is it Really insurmountable? Is there a way out? Is there a way under, over, or around it? Let me give you an example….I hear a lot of times “I’m too old to start a new career”, or “I’m too overweight to date anybody.” Unless you have passed away, your age and your weight should never stop you from anything. Mary Kay Ash the beautiful and famous #ladyboss from Dallas TX and businesswoman founded Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc., when she was 45 years old (Wikipedia). Obviously Mary Kay didn’t let her age stop her from creating an entire company from scratch. Once you have determined that ok maybe you can go through this, now you have to sit back and allow your destiny to unfold. You see we all get so wrapped up in trying to figure out the “how” when God, or The Universe has this figured out for you. I often say this a lot to my clients and family….”Don’t limit God”. You see it is SO much easier to rest in Him and allow the flow to begin. So now that we figured out 1) You will not wallow in “feelings” long 2) You CAN do anything unless you are dead 3) Do not limit God or the universe The best part is….. 4) Take the Opportunities that will soon appear because they will Write down everything you want, everything you need, and everything you will overcome. It’s amazing how you will actually start to see the check marks on your list will outweigh the new tasks. I’ve seen it in my own life and I have definitely stopped limiting God. Let me package this all up for you into one word and let it be your motto when times seem tough and you want to feel those “feelings” and that word is HOPE.

The best advice I could give to anyone facing a challenge that seems insurmountable is to pray and then trust God’s answer and/or instructions. During any challenge I face I talk to God first. Then I reach out to someone specifically my mom who I know can get prayers through to God on my behalf. Naturally, I don’t stress or panic. I weigh the pros and cons of the challenge and tackle it head on with God by my side!

If you are facing a challenge that you feel is insurmountable, my biggest piece of advice would be to start your day, every day without fail, with a daily affirmation. Every morning! Just DO it! This is a good one. “My strength is greater than any struggle” I pair my affirmations with my favorite essential oil Valor! The oil of courage! Next break it down into bite size pieces. It’s feels less daunting that way. Now that your problem is broken down into bite size pieces “eat” (tackle) the biggest piece first. Remember this quote from Mark Twain “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” You got this!

The best advise I could bestow would be to keep moving forward. Even when it feels insurmountable, keep pushing. If there is a will there is a way and I truly believe in that. Everything will be okay in the end, if its not okay, its not the end.

Jennifer de la Cruz | wellness coach an entrepreneur
Throughout my journey, I have learned so much. You see I am a mother of two beautiful girls. I married my high school sweetheart. I also have my full time job as a teacher assistant. I am recent graduate received my BA in education to peruse my dream career as a teacher. It seems like everything was going well, right? The true is I wasn’t happy as much as I tried to be happy something was missing. That was ME. I didn’t know who I was. You see my whole life I’ve always put someone else dreams before mine. My parents wanted me to have many roles in life. Since they never received a full education they wanted all of their children to do so. I have many backgrounds I have my medical assistant and cosmetology license is amazing to have many doors, but my passion wasn’t there. Until, one day I realized I was depress, I was diagnosed with deep depression I was always tired and full of excuses. I didn’t had a life nor memories. Then, it hit me. I needed to changed my mindset and lifestyle. I started with taking care of me. I slowly started going to gym I wanted to do something that could help me with my depression. I started losing weight started feeling good about myself and was gaining a bit of confidence. Then out of no where I received my a phone called that I needed to pay my last two semesters of not they weren’t going to give me my bachelors. I felt like that was the end of the world. After thinking to myself I told myself I wasn’t going to quick I came this far for nothing. I decided to become an entrepreneur I slowly started receiving extra income and was able to pay off my debt. Sharing my story to you. Might give you hopes or maybe your story might bring other a bigger impact. You see i never gave up even though I felt at times that i wasn’t enough to be able to do it. My daughter matter in my life and that kept me going. Your why needs to be so powerful that everything Ike you think about it needs to be emotional. I suffer so much financially I don’t want to keep struggling anymore. You will never know how it feels until you finally take action. Doing what I do now. I was able to open up my own business. I am able to help my community here in Grand Prairie, Texas. To remind me that someone may need a smile and give them hope. They matter and they are worth it. My advice is never settle and don’t let someone opinion get they beat out of you. Don’t let anyone opinion stop you from achieving what you want in life. Think about your goal, write it down and take action. If it wasn’t for me that I gained so much confidence because I now love myself. I am able to take care of someone else I wouldn’t have never started. Oh, remember this. The bigger the challenge the bigger the problem. Overcome your fears don’t ever feel like you need a paper to tell yourself you have skills. A paper is a paper at the end. Your passion is much more. Last, but not least. Your life is a plastic you are able to shape it in any way your heart desire you can even reshape it. It takes a long time to achieve something and be successful. Success is a pleasure. If you are not fulfill with what you are doing today you can not be possibly be successful. Get a goal and don’t stop till you teach it. Just because you reach it don’t mean your done. Master it and really understand it.

The best advice I have for someone who is facing a challenge they feel is insurmountable would be to take that first step. If I was to give a person advice on facing a challenge they felt was insurmountable I would tell them they should release themselves from mental chains that is holding them down. Life is a mental game. You have to focus on the positive things. If you have the power to change things, do so. Be at peace with what you can’t and fall in love with the process. Its not about the destination, but the journey itself.

When I am coming upon a challenge that feels insurmountable, I spend some time visualizing my success. It really works! Better yet – when someone tells you that you can’t accomplish something, studies show that a mechanism kicks in that will make you successful. In sum, no means yes!

In business and in life we all face obstacles and challenges. How we deal with those truly shows our integrity and character and honestly our commitment to our goals. In my case, once I decided on something in life or career, there was no going back. No obstacle that I couldn’t face and learn from and no one that could deter me from what I wanted. This was not always the case for me. In my college years, I was told that what I wanted in life wasn’t achievable, it was too hard, had too many cons and not enough pros and I was told to settle for the safe choices. I did that for a while and realized I wanted more, I wanted to stand in front of those challenges and prove to myself, my kids and my doubters that I could achieve whatever I wanted for myself and my family. Some days it was hard to look forward but I got up every day and chose to face the odds head on, whatever came my way I would be ready for it. Try to remove yourself from your situation and become a problem solver. This is an opportunity to learn and grow. Of course not giving up on your goals is key and working through the challenge will make you a better person, entrepreneur, or team player. Surround yourself with people that GET YOU and support you so that you can talk the issues out and maybe take a piece of advice. Align yourself with like minded people, even if that’s just your spouse or your best friend. But the most important thing to do when facing something that seems like it mind end your journey to your goal, is to not give up. It’ll be so worth it on the other side!

While I have faced challenges in my life, there are many other people who have faced things more challenging than I can possibly imagine. On social media and my blog, I am a recipe developer/food blogger, sharing healthy and Whole30/paleo focused recipes with my community. However, the rest of the time I am a School Social Worker, and I have the opportunity to work with students and families who face challenges that truly do seem insurmountable. Some of the students I work with have an incredible amount of resilience and strength, and it is part of what helps them through their daily challenges. While I am may not an expert on how to face challenges, I am honored to be able to work alongside the students, parents, and families that trust me with theirs. They allow me to walk alongside them, listen to their struggles and pain, and try to problem solve where to go next. So my best advice? Find a listening ear, a family member or friend, a counselor or therapist – going through a challenge that feels too big to handle will feel much more manageable if you can do it alongside someone you trust.

I think the best advice I have for someone who is facing a challenge that seems insurmountable, is to write down what your challenge is. Then, break it down into achievable steps and do your best to check each one off. It may seem hard, but please don’t forget to ask for help, take time for yourself and pray everyday. I know in life we all will face insurmountable challenges but you are going to make it to the other side victoriously. I believe in you. Believe in yourself.

My advice would be to embrace the challenges in life, no matter how big or small. I think a lot of times when things get rough, human nature makes us want to give up. But I truly believe a lot of hard work and failure is behind most success stories. Challenging times are inevitable, but if you change your outlook and look at your challenges as an opportunity, your outcome can change.

My biggest piece of advice for someone facing a challenge that feels insurmountable is to ask for help! Find the people that love and support you and lean on them when you need it. They may have a solution or perspective that you wouldn’t have come up with on your own!

Consider your resources. Do you have family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances who can assist in any way? Are there groups in your community to whom you can reach out? Whether it’s a personal goal or an actual need you have, there is often someone in your circle who can help if you’re just willing to ask. We’re all put on this earth to ease one another’s burdens, in fact. Let others aid you however they can, then turn around and support the person behind you!

It’s cliche to say, but everyone needs to hear it at some point or another… NEVER GIVE UP. Some people need to be reminded more than others that when there is a set back, you find a way to overcome it. Life is the BEST thrower of curve balls, and wow… you may strike out over and over again, but that’s life. YOU have the power to choose what your next steps should be. Set small goals for yourself until they become bigger and bigger, and when you’ve made it, reach higher. Just NEVER stop trying because if you do, you’ve already lost. Improvising and adaptability is key to over coming insurmountable issues, and it starts with your mind set. Just know that whatever problems you may have, there will always be a way to solve them if you are willing to improvise and adapt to those curve balls. You got this, and there are people out there who believe in you!

The best advice I would give is first shift your mindset. Within any challenge you are facing a positive mindset will propel you over the mountain when you thought there was absolutely no way you were going to scale it. Going into anything with the mindset of defeat guarantees you a loss before you even step on the battlefield. You have to be able to visualize yourself winning. Manifest it! Our minds are so powerful and we wield everything, positive or negative, upon our lives. So speak and think all things positive. It starts in the mind. The second piece of advice I would give is to stop forward looking. We are a generation of forward thinkers that we get so anxious for what’s to come before we barely began to crawl. Remain in the present and work on taking the action steps, small or large, before you deem something over or out of your reach. The last piece of information, and to me ties all these together, is change your environment! If you are constantly submerged in a negative space, with negative minded people & energies (this goes for what content you follow on socials as well), nothing positive can flourish. You become a product of that space. Find positive groups, whether online or in your community, and allow that positive energy to radiate within your soul. Free yourself from negativity and no challenge that you come across will ever feel insurmountable again!

Put God first in all of your projects, never give up your goal, your never ending dream. But give up your fear, your “can’t”s, and the excuses. Do not place limits on your mind and never stop seeking knowledge. Be diligent that nothing and no one will put out your fire or your vision of the things you want to accomplish. Keep persevering and set your sights on the goal, clinging to and embracing with all your strength what you want to achieve.

I would tell them , to never give up or loose hope. You will always be your own worse critics but at the end of the day you are capable of doing a lot more than what you think you are! Nothing is too much of a challenge as long as you are determined!

When facing something I feel is insurmountable, I always take a step back and detach from the situation at hand. I look at every possible outcome and possibility, then immediately take action. Is there something I can do NOW to get me further to a positive outcome? If so, then I begin planning and taking the steps needed to tackle the challenge. Don’t talk about it, be about it; anything is possible when you take control by actively working for what you want. On the other hand, if there is nothing immediate to be done, I may be frustrated, but there is no reason to waste precious energy worrying about situations out of my control. Bottom line? Detach, plan, and take action.

We all go through periods of our lives where we feel we are facing challenges that are insurmountable. My advice is to take a step back and not let yourself be defined by the problem. Obstacles in life exists, so we can either resist them or accept the reality that they are in front of us. I love using the analogy of ocean waves when thinking of challenging times in my life. I can either try to fight off the wave (which would be futile) or accept the wave and let it wash past me. Once I have that perspective, it helps me realize that challenges are part of life. Don’t think “why is this happening to me?” but instead flip the script and think “what can I learn from this?

It is something I have to tell myself a lot as well because having anxiety and running your own business that isn’t always where you want it to be, you just have to tell yourself when you think you are going through hell, keep going cause who stops at hell. Things may not be how you want it at the moment but you just have to keep pushing through it and work through your problems, don’t just quit because it got hard.

When faced with a difficult challenge the best advice I can give is to trust your gut! Its amazing to receiving constant support and advice from everyone but at the end of the day your the one in control. You know your own limits and strengths, never be afraid to lean on them. Continue to have faith in your decisions and remember it’s not the end of the world!
