What age is TikTok
Professionals on TikTok get on and Smash it now.
The world is changing. People have shorter attention spans. People want information quick. Short form video content (under 30 seconds) is getting more attention than the other sort of content on social media.
Are you continue to underestimating TikTok? Are you uninterested in Instagramâs snail-like growth? TikTok could seriously help grow your brand, much faster than the other platform. But why?
Here are 10 reasons why professionals and corporations should smash it on TikTok immediately in 2021:
1. Any Niche, Any Professional on TikTok
Yes, TikTok started getting famous due to dancing, but if you are doing not want to ascertain dancing, then TikTok will now show it to you. what's so successful about TikTok is that the algorithm. It gradually understands what you wish by watching what you've got watched and interacted with. If you looked for plumbing then watched a couple of plumbing videos, then the algorithm will recognize that and feed you more relevant content almost like that. you'll find many professional on the platform. I even have connected with doctors, lawyers, engineers and professional athletes to call just a couple of . If you're wondering what quite content you'll create for yourself or your business, you simply need to look for something similar by other professionals on TikTok, in your niche, to urge ideas. A baker can show baking bread, a chiropractor can show necks being clicked. The ideas are endless.
If you're lucky to figure for you own company then the chances are endless. Companies do encourage social media for promotion. Sam Fares (@thepatentattorney), who may be a Lawyer, says people at his work are surprisingly supportive. TikTok are often an honest marketing tool and even large companies are beginning to add a social media policies to make sure boundaries aren't crossed.
2. it isn't only for Kids
According to Comscore statistics, US TikTok users by age is: 33% children and 67% adults. This statistic was taken at the top of 2020, so it's fairly old now therefore the platform has matured even more now.
Even, Gordan Ramsey (@gordonramsayofficial) is using TikTok himself now and most of the large YouTubers like Mr. Beast (@mrbeast) are there already. Instagram Reels remains far behind TikTok - the videos on Reels are like what was being shown on TikTok two years ago, with mostly music only. you'll copy the platform but you'll not copy the audience. i buy many comments and messages by adults everyday on the platform and on the road . a number of these are passed on from their siblings too. Bare in mind, if you influence the younger generation, this also rubs off on the oldsters . So TikTok could even be an honest investment strategy if you are doing target Generation Z. But eventually 67% of TikTok users are adults.
3. TikTok Helps Growth on other platforms like IG and Youtube
TikTok provides links on your profile for both Instagram and Youtube. there's also a choice to add link to your website otherwise you can even put LinkedIn there if you wish . These links are quite other platforms need to offer. Instagram only allows you to insert one link on your platform, so does Twitter, and Clubhouse that only as two. These links gives an honest opportunity to spread your followers elsewhere. Social Media Strategist, Caleb Chin (@socialfeed) thinks that one among the quickest thanks to grow a following on Instagram in 2021 is to create a TikTok following. i might need to agree.
"The quickest thanks to grow on Instagram is to create a following on TikTok."
Successful TikTok accounts also can build an outsized number of subscribers on Youtube without even published one video on YouTube. Take writer and storyteller, Greg Hinthorn (@hinthorn) for instance . He reached bent his TikTok audience and told them he will published his first Youtube video when he reached 4000 subscribers on there. Now he has reached 4000 subscribers on Youtube from TikTok. he's now publishing videos on both platforms.
4. Most Downloaded App on the App Store
According to Appfigures data, TikTok is that the most downloaded app. 90% of all TikTok users access the app on a day to day .Â
Furthermore, consistent with App Annie, TikTok's screen time at the start of 2021 overtook Facebook for the primary time. the typical screen time for a mean TikTok user is over 20 hours per month.
5. Engagement Can Attract Leads
Client opportunities, contacts, influence and leads - the engagement within the comments section on TikTok is insane. I even have never seen anything love it . there's also a messaging service on TikTok. this will be turned in settings, so anyone can send you a message. you'll also directly reply to an issue via a video which which is shared on your feed, which may helps engagement.
American Architect Tom Reynolds AIA (@tiktokarchitect) has been active on the platform for a year now confirms.
"I'm actually getting more work coming from TikTok now, than anywhere else."
6. TikTok is Authentic
TikTok is transparent and authentic. there's not many commercials or people trying to sell. you are doing not get many of us selling their eBook or spending the primary 5 mins asking you to subscribe because those sort of videos don't had best . TikTok is blunt, straight to the purpose and these are the videos that had best on TikTok. People try to offer something quickly. If you give value meaning something, then an audience will come. Vulnerability is additionally a key factor that folks like. the right filtered and edited photograph on Instagram isn't authentic, neither may be a highly produced YouTube video. People can relate to TikTok because its real - the videos that tend to try to to well aren't the over productive type. it's like what Youtube was 20 years ago. Transparency, vulnerability and authenticity goes an extended way on social media in 2021 and TikTok fits.
7. Learn on TikTok
TikTok has heavily invested $50 million into an ingenious learning fund on short form educational content, which might be the longer term for social media and online education. If you begin learning the way to give information or teach with videos now, this might bring many opportunities for your business or personal brand within the near future. it's not about selling something - its about giving value.
"We've partnered with over 800 public figures, media publishers, educational institutions, and real-world professional ... to supply us creative learning." -TikTok
8. Its Quick and straightforwardÂ
If you're a business and employing a videographer to try to to you videos - take care . tons of media companies don't have much experience with short form video, or TikTok. it's a reasonably new thing. they're likely wont to top quality produced videos. Have they published many short videos? Have they built an audience before? These are the questions you ought to be asking them. Quantity is more important for brief form video content. The TikTok app has almost everything in it to make videos quickly, even green screen. you are doing not need to spend one to 2 hours during a room like Club House or spend every week editing an extended form video. Many creators are beginning to up the sport with mirrorless cameras rather than their phone, for higher quality, but this has not oversaturated the platform yet.
9. 100% Creativity
This makes it fantastic if you're within the creative industry. Creating videos displays your creativity. YouTube and TikTok are the highest creative media platforms.
On one hand, you've got you Instagram and LinkedIn where there's tons of individuals sharing other people's content? for instance , a number of the highest architecture accounts on Instagram are accounts reposting other peoples content. it is the same with LinkedIn. People even download other peoples videos on other platforms and repost them on LinkedIn. These videos don't have much creativity.
On the opposite hand, uploads on TikTok have very high creativity. one among my favorite and straightforward videos was made by Architect, Dory Azar (@dory.azar.architect) who actually drew a door swing under a door to elucidate how door swings are drawn. When lecture Dory on Clubhouse, he explained that folks like simple explanations - they appear to figure best.
10. More Organic Reach Than the other Platform
If you begin a replacement account on today with no followers, post something, that post has potential to succeed in more people than the other platform. there's only LinkedIn immediately that comes close. But, new businesses still slug away at Instagram and Facebook in 2021. These platforms tend to be more powerful for people that have already built an audience, have account authority, or want to pay via promotion. this is often partly the rationale why TikTok is so popular. Everyone features a chance for videos to try to to well and reach an audience. Social media apps like Instagram and Facebook are old matured platforms now. These reasons help make TikTok the platform of choice.
If you would like to create a brand, you ought to obviously start by getting to the platforms with the foremost reach. albeit you're still convinced the audience is just too young on TikTok, it could still be an honest marketing investment for you within the short to future .
It might be time to prevent shaking your head. Its a no brainer. TikTok and short form video content is here to remain .

Acquisition customer top 5 to use TiktokÂ
Tiktok is presently gaining popularity with over 300 million active users worldwide. Most business owners feel Tiktok isn't ideal for business because it's crammed with entertainment and sometimes ridiculous videos.
But, that was what many said about Instagram and Snapchat. Today, these two platforms are getting used by top brands to get many thousands for his or her business monthly.Â
There are numerous reasons why small business must use Tiktok to urge new customers. But during this post, we only covered top 5 reasons.
1. it's Easy to create Communities
With Tiktok for business, building communities is extremely easy. Tiktok may be a video content platform, and with video, grabbing peopleâs attention is extremely easy as modern-day users are more likely to consume video content than written content.
So, small business owners can cash in of this to make numerous videos of about 15 â 60 seconds to grab the eye of their audience and build their following.Â
Some people are just on the platform to consume content and to not create. So, with this in mind, your job is to offer them something to consume and obtain their interest.
2. Over 500 Active Users Globally
The number of active users on Tiktok is insane. With over 500 million active users globally, this is often not a chance small businesses should ignore.Â
Although the most important demographic of Tiktok users are between the age of 16 â 24. But that doesnât mean people of older age aren't there.
Much like other previous âhotâ social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat, Generation Z was the primary to leap on them. So is that the same for Tiktok.
However, if you log into the platform now, you'll find freelancers, dentists, teachers, fashion designers, and even grandparents actively using the platform.Â
3. it's Easy to Grab Users AttentionÂ
Tiktok may be a video-sharing platform and videos are the sole quite content that grabs your attention without you approving it. It starts playing immediately you set your eyes thereon .Â
Small businesses can cash in of this to share educational, entertaining, and promotional videos moderately. Users are on the platform to be entertained so small businesses must find out how to balance their content because it only takes a scroll to chop your video out.Â
4. Top Brands Are Claiming their Spots
Go check in on Tiktok now and search if you wonât find top brands like Walmart, Family Feud, HP, and other top brands. numerous brands are now taking advantage of the trend to make awareness and obtain more customers for his or her business.Â
5. A Platform to Sell with Fun
As a sensible marketer, you ought to be ready to promote your brand to your audience with less invasive techniques. Millennials are already conscious of most marketing tactics and thus they're going to ignore your videos if you are trying to travel the standard ways.Â
Using stories in your content to pass your brand message will produce a win for you. you'll gain tons of attention by launching a hashtag challenge. A hashtag challenge is where you tell users to make a specific quite video and incorporate your branded hashtag thereto .
You can work with a Tiktok influencer to actually make this type of challenge go viral.Â
What you need to know about TikTokÂ
TikTok is one of those social networks that grew in popularity VERY quickly, but if you are over the age of 30, you still might have NO IDEA what the platform is all about.
Letâs start with the basics:
Who uses it?
TikTok is primarily used by the under 30âs. 60% of US TikTok users are aged between 16-24, according to a November 2019 release from Reuters.
What is it?
TikTok is basically a re-branding of Musical.ly (donât worry if you havenât heard of that either). Basically, it is a social platform where creators can post 15ish second videos (up to 60 seconds) that are shared to their followers, with hopes of landing on the apps âFor You Pageâ (FYP).
What is being posted?
This is a tough one. In the early days, TikTok was full of lip-syncing, and dancing. Today, the scope of content varies, and the algorithm that the platform uses is VERY advanced. Based on the types of videos you watch, and seem to enjoy â the algorithm will shoot out all sorts of videos that it thinks you may enjoy.
For this reason, you may see completely different content than someone else on the app. There are now âSidesâ of TikTok as the youth are calling it. This basically means the type of content you are being shown. Political TikTok, Dancing TikTok, Alt TikTok, Straight TikTok, Food TikTok or many others!
Disclaimer: I am definitely on the Puppy and FoodTok side!
Can you make money?
Depending on your location, there is now a creator fund on TikTok for some users. This means that you can earn money per-view on your videos. Unless you have a very large following (we are talking in the millions) TikTok might not be a stable source of income, however, the exposure it brings can open LOTS of doors. Many famous TikTok-ers are now treated like typical celebrities, so sponsors and endorsements are a large portion of their income.
Is it for business?
Itâs a powerful tool for the right companies, with the right demographics. We have seen a bump of tiktok of companies using influencers to share their products, creating original ads, or creating accounts and posting unique content. If your target demographic is under 30, this could be a perfect platform to explore!
Even politicians are getting in on the action!
TikTok is a very trendy app, with tons of young minds. Some political figures are using this platform to reach out to young voters and soon-to-be voters. This is an incredibly smart move in my opinion!
One Canadian example that comes to mind is Jagmeet Singh - check out his profile here!
Should you get TikTok?
This is a personal choice. If you are a fan of Instagram and social media in general, and you can use a smart phone with 60% confidence⊠why not give it a shot?
There have been privacy issues globally, and instances of banning in the US â so do your research and be mindful of what you are sharing, commenting, and engaging with on the App.
Overall, it is a fun platform with absolutely no pressure to ever post anything yourself. You can watch videos for hours, or if you are feeling up to the challenge â try posting a video for yourself!
ConclusionÂ
If your business targets millennials, Tiktok is the perfect platform to get new customers for your business. Small businesses willing to create entertaining and humorous videos can take advantage of this platform to create visibility for their brands and get new customers.

HTML5 Input Types: Where Are They Now?
HTML5 Input Types: Where Are They Now?
Drew McLellan
2019-01-16T14:30:11+01:002019-01-16T15:32:18+00:00
One of the stand-out headline features of HTML5 for many designers and developers was the addition of a number of new types of form input that could be used. For years, weâd been confined to using single-line text inputs (type="text") and laying on JavaScript and user instructions to try an accurately capture valid data of different types through that one unsophisticated field.
HTML5 brought with it new values of the type attribute that enabled us to be much more specific about the types of data we needed to capture through the field, with the promise being that the browser would then provide the interface and validation required to coerce the user into completing the field accurately.
From URLs to emails, and from search fields to dates, the hope was that instead of needing to write cumbersome JavaScript to try and validate those fields, we could just leave it to the browser to do that hard work for us. Whatâs more, by adding what it knows about the userâs context (type of device, type of interaction, timezones, and so on) the browser would be able to do a much better job of tailoring the interface to meet the userâs needs that we ever could as page authors.

Having new items in a spec is one thing, but it doesnât really mean too much unless the browsers our audience are using support those features. These new values of the type attribute had the big advantage of falling back to type="text" if the browser had no support, but this may have also come at the cost of removing the browsers makersâ imperative when it came to implementing those new types in their products.
Itâs the start of 2019, and HTML5 has been the current version of HTML now for more than four years. Which of those new types have been implemented, which can we use, and are there any we should be avoiding?
Search Fields
Telephone Number Fields
URL Fields
Email Fields
Number Fields
Range Fields
Color Fields
Date Fields
Web forms are such an important part of the web, but we design them poorly all the time. The brand-new âForm Design Patternsâ book is our new practical guide for people who design, prototype and build all sorts of forms for digital services, products and websites. The eBook is free for Smashing Members.
Check the table of contents âŹ
1. Search Fields
The type="search" input is intended to be used for search fields. Functionally, these are very the same as basic text fields, but having a dedicated type enables the browser to apply different styling. This is particularly useful if the userâs operating system has a set style for search fields, as this enables the browser to style the search fields on web pages to match.
The specification states that the difference between search and text is purely stylistic, so it may be best to avoid this if you intend to restyle the field with CSS anyway. There appears to be no semantic advantage to its use.
Can I Use input-search? Data on support for the input-search feature across the major browsers from caniuse.com.
Recommendation
Use type="search" if you intend to leave the styling of the search field up to the browser.
2. Telephone Number Fields
The type="tel" input is used for entering telephone numbers. These are like the unique usernames used by Whatsapp. If youâre unsure, ask your grandparents.
Internationally, telephone numbers take on lots of different formats, for both technical and localization reasons. Due to this, the tel input doesnât attempt to validate the format of a phone number. You can make use of the associated validation tools such as the pattern attribute on the tag, or the setCustomValidity() JavaScript method to enforce a format if required.
On desktop browsers, the use of telephone fields seems to have little impact. On devices with virtual keyboards, however, they can be really useful. For example, on iOS, focusing input on a telephone field brings up a numeric keypad ready for keying in a number. In addition, the deviceâs autocomplete mechanisms kick in and suggest phone numbers that can be autofilled with a single tap.
Can I Use input-email-tel-url? Data on support for the input-email-tel-url feature across the major browsers from caniuse.com.
Recommendation
Use type="tel" for any phone number fields. Itâs very useful where implemented, and comes at no cost when itâs not.
3. URL Fields
The type="url" field can be used for capturing URLs. You might use this when asking a user to input their website address for a business directory, for example. The curious thing about the URL field is that it takes only full, absolute URLs. Thereâs no option to be able to capture just a domain name, or just a path, for example. This does restrict its usefulness in some respects, as I imagine CMS and web app developers would have found lots of uses for a field that accepts and validates relative paths.
While this would be a valid absolute URL:
https://twitter.com/drewm
Both of these would not pass the fieldâs validation:
smashingmagazine.com /2019/01/css-multiple-column-layout-multicol/
It feels like a missed opportunity that different parts of a URL cannot be specified, but thatâs what we have. Browser support is across the board pretty great, with virtual keyboard devices offering some customization for URL entry. iOS customizes its keyboard with ., / and an autocomplete button for common TLDs such as .com and for my locale, .co.uk. This is a good example of the browser being able to offer more intelligent choices than we can as web developers.
Can I Use input-email-tel-url? Data on support for the input-email-tel-url feature across the major browsers from caniuse.com.
Recommendation
Use type="tel" whenever you need to collect a full, absolute URL. Browser support is great, but remember that itâs no good for individual URL components.
4. Email Fields
Possibly one of the most commonly used of the newer options is type="email" for email addresses. Much like weâve seen with telephone numbers and URLs, devices with virtual keyboards customize the keys (to include things like @ buttons) and enable autofill from their contacts database.
Desktop browsers make use of this too, with Safari on macOS also enabling autofill for email fields, based on data in the system Contacts app.
Email addresses often seem like they follow a very simple format, but the variations actually make them quite complex. A naive attempt to validate email addresses can result in a perfectly good address being marked as invalid, so itâs great to be able to lean on the browserâs more sophisticated and well-tested validation methods to check the format.
Usefully, the multiple attribute can be added to email fields to collect a list of email addresses. In this case, each email address in the list is individually validated.
<input type="email" multiple>

Recommendation
Use type="email" for email address fields whenever possible.
Safari on iOS shows custom keyboards for telephone, email and number fields, amongst others. (Large preview)
5. Number Fields
The type="number" field is designed for numerical values, and has some very useful attributes along with it in the shape of min, max and step. A valid value for a number field must be a floating point number between any minimum and maximum value specified by the min and max attributes.
If step is set, then a valid value is divisible by the step value.
<input type="number" min="10" max="30" step="5">
Valid input for the above field would be 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30, with any other value being rejected.
Browser support is broad, again with virtual keyboards often defaulting to a numeric input mode for keying in values.
Some desktop browsers (including Chrome, Firefox and Safari, but not Edge) add toggle buttons for nudging the values up and down by the value of step, or if no step is specified, the default step appears to be 1 in each implementation.
Can I Use input-number? Data on support for the input-number feature across the major browsers from caniuse.com.
Recommendation
Use type="number" for any floating point numbers, as itâs widely supported and can help prevent accidental input.
6. Range Fields
Less obvious in use that some of the other types, type="range" can be thought of as being an alternative for type="number" where the user doesnât care about the exact value.
Range fields take, and will often use, the same min, max and step attributes as number fields, and browsers almost universally display this as a graphical slider. The user doesnât necessarily get to see the exact value theyâre setting.
Range fields might be useful for those sorts of questions on forms like âHow likely are you to recommend this to a friend?â with âLikelyâ at one end and âUnlikelyâ at the other. The user could slide the slider to wherever they think represents their opinion, and under the hood that gets submitted as a numerical value that you can store and process.
Browser support is good, although the appearance varies between implementations.
Can I Use input-range? Data on support for the input-range feature across the major browsers from caniuse.com.
Recommendation
The uses for type="range" might be a bit niche, but support is good and the slider provides a user-friendly input method where appropriate.
7. Color Fields
The type="color" field is design for capturing RGB colors in hexadecimal notation, such as #aabbcc. The HTML specification calls this a âcolor well controlâ, with the intention that the browser should provide a user-friendly color picker of some sort.
Some browsers do provide this, notably Chrome and Firefox both providing access to the system color picker through a small color swatch.
Neither IE nor Safari provide any support here, leaving the user to figure out that theyâre supposed to enter a 7-digit hex number all by themselves.
Color fields might find use in theming for personalization and in CMS use, but unless the users are sufficiently technical to deal with hex color codes, it may be better not to rely on the browser providing a nice UI for these.
Can I Use input-color? Data on support for the input-color feature across the major browsers from caniuse.com.
#### Recommendation Unless you know your users will be happy to fall back to entering hexadecimal color codes, itâs best not to rely on browsers supporting `type="color"`.
Range, color and date fields as displayed by Edge, Firefox and Chrome. (Large preview)
8. Date Fields
HTML5 introduced a number of different `type` values for creating inputs for dates and times. These included `date`, `time`, `datetime-local`, `month` and `week`. At first glance, these appear to be heaven-sent, as collecting dates in a form is a difficult experience for both developer and user, and theyâre needed pretty frequently. The promise here is that the new field types enable the browser to provide a standardized, accessible and consistent user interface to capture dates and times from the user with ease. This is really important, as date and time formats vary world-over based on both language and locale, and so a friendly browser interface that translates an easy-to-use date selection into an unambiguous technical date format really does sound like the ideal solution. As such, valid input for `type="date"` field is an unambiguous _year-month-day_ value such as `2019-01-16`. Developers like these, as they map pretty much to the ISO 8601 date format, which is used in most technical contexts. Unfortunately, few regular human beings use this date format and arenât likely to reach for it when asked to provide a date in a single empty text field. And, of course, a single empty text field is what the user is presented with if their browser does not provide a user interface for picking dates. In those cases, it then becomes very difficult for a user to enter a valid date value unless they happen to be familiar with the format required or the input is annotated with clear instructions. Many browsers do provide a good user interface for picking dates, however. Firefox has a really excellent date picker, and Chrome and Edge also have pretty good interfaces. However, thereâs no support in poor old IE and none in Safari, which could be an issue.
Can I Use input-datetime? Data on support for the input-datetime feature across the major browsers from caniuse.com.
Recommendation
While convenient where it works, the failure mode of type="date" and its associated date and time types is very poor. This makes it a risky choice that could leave users struggling to meet validation criteria.
Conclusion
A lot has changed in the browser landscape in the four years since the HTML5 specification became a recommendation. Support for the newer types of input is fairly strong â particularly in mobile devices with virtual keyboards such as tablets and phones. In most cases, these inputs are safe to use and provide some extra utility to the user.
There are a couple of notable exceptions, the worst of which being the date and time fields, which not only lack utility, but also have more patchy browsers support. When support isnât available, the fallback mode of these fields is poor. In these cases, it might be best to stick to JavaScript-based solutions for progressively enhancing the basic type="text" input fields.
If youâd like to read more, Iâd thoroughly recommend the MDN web docs on these field types, and as ever, the W3C specification.

The Tiring Day 1 â LOST IN SEOUL
I planned on writing about our -my sister, Nadya, and I- trip to South Korea since we were back from February. It was merely us two, in a strange nation where we barely talk in our mother tongue (except for the time we spent with one of our friend, whom being very nice as our local tour guide and treated us with delicious food). But, I got very lazy to write. Haha, so me.
So, we went there unexpectedly. One day, my sister asked my mom whether she can go to Seoul, my mom was in the happy and easy going mood to be that easy to agree. Like, seriouslyâŠwe booked our ticket, made our visa (I needed to go twice since I did not complete something the first time, totally forgot what was it), booked our hostelâŠmom only gave accommodation expenses, so besides that, it was our money. For 4 days and 3 nights, our budget was so tight that we cannot afford to enter any restaurant since we were too afraid of the price. HAHAHA. Therefore, we were so grateful of our friend who had treated us delicious courses. Â
Suddenly tonight, after a hectic Eid day, I spent my leisure time watching one of my favorite TV Program; it is Japanese one called âWhy Did You Come to Japanâ. It usually broadcasts you some touristsâ stories who visit Japan for some special purposes. One time, they recorded a story of Seba-chan who visited Japan to explore their Ramen, as he spent about 3 months to eat ramen in Japan. First, he used his bike to cut the transport expenses. However, by the time goes, it is hard to maintain its function, I guess, so Seba-chan continued his journey by hitching some random strangers, who happened to know him already throughout the program. Or the story about the Sasebo guy, an Australian man whose main visit to Japan was only to eat Sasebo Burger. The mayor of Sasebo city even making him a special t-shirt with its mascot and make sure he can eat any Sasebo burger for free.
Tonightâs story was about two brother in their first time visiting Tokyo and the older one happened to lost his wallet. His younger only has a debit card but it cannot be withdrawn. They looked so lost and pale. THERE! I saw the resemblance of me and Nadya with that story. HAHAHA. Just the two of us, where we needed (desperately needed) to work together to make the rest of our stay pleasant for both of us. First thing when we arrived in the airport, we thought, or I thought, we still have plenty of time to wait for our luggage after the immigration.
I checked on the screen, to where should we go to get out baggage. I was so sure regarding our gate and told my sister that we need to wait. We called our parents to notify them that we have safely landed. After waiting for approx. 10 mins, I got bored and asked my sister to wash our face and put on a little make up just to lighten up the face (we just woke up and face was definitely inhumane).
We, or I as the eldest, was so cluelessâŠI sensed something was  not right when I saw no one from our flight in front of the moving belt (whatever you call it). Hehehehe, we went to the wrong side. I did not panic because I saw my sister was already in the mode. We walked back and forth to ask someone. We asked several people but nobody can answer us. I was so confident regarding the information I have to find our luggage. I had all the details, but nobody was actually helping. Was it too early? Is 9am-ish early to you? I take note that the airport crew are not that capable of using English language and not (really) helpful. I even asked several times to lost and found counter. Nah, nothing.
Lucky for us, we found our luggage just being thrown outside the belt. The, supposed to be, right belt since long time ago. Just like that. Abandoned. THANK GOD! They were saved.
After that, we followed the itinerary we made and proceeded to ask the direction to buy the temporary SIM card and bus ticket. At the bus counter, the lady who was in charge told me that rather than buying only the bus ticket, I could buy T-money and got a discount for bus fare, also made it easier for us to use public transportation. It cost us, 100.000 Won for 2 cards. Right choice! Buy T-money everyone, at the airport, to make it simpler.
We departed for Anguk. And it was safe until we got off the bus. But, since it is my experience that you read, we lost again. My sense of direction IS BAD. We went back and forth with our luggage and the problem was not that the humidity came from heat; it was the cold we could not bear. I asked several people again with the simple, âJogiyo? Heoksi, Yellow Brick arayo? Yellow Brick Hostel eodisoyo?â. So sorry, my mind was cloudy and I cannot think of whether it was polite enough. Nadya then took the initiative to ask a grandpa with broken English and showed him the website with picture and address, HE WAS SO NICE, he did not hesitate to take us there. To the front of the hostel, where we need to walk through an alley. We thanked him a lot by bowing with our might, if it was not for him; I supposed we would spend our time just going back and forth with no end.
We stayed at the Yellow Brick Hostel 1. We booked through Traveloka and chose the hostel because its rating and comments, they even served breakfast (sadly, although we paid for it, weâd rather buy onigiri for breakfast because we were always in hurry) and A ROOFTOP! Yep, rooftop was also the reason, although, once again, we went there only twice, the arrival and departure, and you will hardly see mountain. I recommend you this hostel because for the price they give an excellent service in a very good location. It is very easy to reach by subway, like super easy, after I get to know the area. HA!
On the first day, we arrived by Friday actually, I booked a flower arrangement course at Florinn, a flower shop I found in IG. Jenny ssaem, the owner, was a petite young lady whom very passionate with her job. It was very nice of her to guide to her flower shop nearby Ewha UniversityâŠthe uni I once dreamt about. Then again, we were lost, HA! I was just not accustomed to the blocks. We rode a bus, based on what Jenny ssaem and google maps suggested. We found the nearest bus stop and hopped the bus. You know the google maps give several suggestions right? Well, we could have taken the subway, but Nadya was afraid since we saw no station within our sight. Shortly, we rode the wrong direction. We should have taken the other direction with the same bus number and struggling to find the place when we arrived. Nadya was so patient to keep up with the clumsy me. HAHAHA, thank you adek!
I would tell you in details regarding the course later on. Since this post is about âLOSTâ.
We went shopping around Ewha before decided to try subway, aimed for Hongdae. Hongdae (Hongik Daehak) station in Friday night is super packed with people. After a short walk, we wanted to conclude and have a good sleep for tomorrowâs agenda. It was 8-9 pm ish when we took a bus, one we were sure was the correct one. We followed what the google maps said and arrived at, the supposed to be nearest bus stop from our hostel.
I was so confident with my maps, we even dropped by a Nature Republic store to buy wet tissues. We walked and walked and walked and walked, back and forth againâŠthen I was scared to say that maps decieved me. I tried to calm Nadya and changed it into Waze. It was already 10 pm-ish. Food stalls were crowded with people chattering and drinking. I started to panic too, however, it was not the main concern, as we just wish to go to bed. I tried to set my mind straight and followed Waze. BUT! As you know, Waze gives you alleys suggestion, where it directed us to a dark and quiet neighborhood. Nadya was trying hard to object but I insisted that was the way to reach our hostel. I knew it well, she nearly cried, since it was her first time experience abroad to have a vacation and I gave her a bad situation.
Merely with her clumsy sister, she lost. I wanted to cry for different reason, I blamed my self for putting my sister in the situation. In the end, Waze could not give us the direction too, or it could, but we were afraid to follow since homeless men are drunk already.
My phone was nearly died even after an emergency charging. We found a small shop in an alley. Nadya asked me to stop by. I was planning to ask direction since maps could not help me. It was around -5 celcius and we could not think clearly, all we wished was only to reach the bed and tucked ourselves inside the warm blanket.
The owner was an old couple. The grandma greeted us with worries. She cannot speak English, my Korean is limited as I told her that I needed to call the hostel, if only they can pick us up, or at least giving the right direction. She said, seeing two freezing girls asking for help is so pitiful that she agreed to even talk to them! However, nobody was answering our call. Then I asked her to draw us a direction to reach our hostel, she was not sure and asked her husband about it. The husband, I guess, he did not really like us because he raised his tone and giving the body language of letting us be after mumbling the direction. Â
The grandma, was an angel sent to us, she was really kind. Despite her husband disagreement, she drew as the easy map, repeated the key store and even took us to the main road. Nadya and I bowed to show our gratitude and even kept the paper she gave to us. The map was so clear, we could easily found our hostel. Well, after several asking again, since Nadya was so scared we would lost again, so she wanted to make sure, we took the right direction.
We finally arrived in our room at 11 pm-ish. The first thing to do, CRYING! We cried and hugged each other as we were so afraid that we would make a headline about being lost here. HAHAHA, then the next thing I do, tell Nadya not to call our parents at the moment, since it could make them worry, weâd better keep it for ourselves, at least until we got home.
Hehehehehehe
The experience, nonetheless, did not make me give up. I even wanted to explore more, to avoid getting lost again. At least, not to our hostel.
