So in the Australian production of DEH Alana carries a clarinet case in her first scene and I have been ruminating a lot on Alana as a clarinetist.

She of course does many extra curricular activities and only has so much time to dedicate to music so in my heart I believe she is the first second clarinetist of the high school’s wind orchestra. A wind ensemble rather than a symphony orchestra / jazz band because she'll wanna hang out in a big clarinet section. And by senior year she can play at a pretty high level, but wouldn't make first clarinet. She is probably more dedicated to music than many of her fellow bandmates but that's just because she is dedicated to everything.
