Plot: a short drabble for the gadreel!sam ark where gadreel kills dean bc its late and i hate my life
He spat out a mouthful of blood, the thick red liquid gleaming on his teeth as he forced a smile. It wasn't a happy smile, but one filled with forgiveness—a smile that whispered, 'I love you.'
His knees cracked as he stood up once again, staring into the eyes of the only person he ever loved unconditionally. The eyes that met his weren't familiar, no longer Sam's.
Sam—no, this stranger—smiled in return, but his smile held no love. The man drew his fist back again, and Dean looked up into his eyes. ''It's okay,'" he wanted to say, but he lacked the energy. He gazed into the eyes that once belonged to his brother, hoping Sammy was in there somewhere, understanding that his big brother loved him, understanding that its not his fault.
This time, when Dean's legs were kicked from under him again, he made no effort to stand back up.
Something in Sam's eyes flickered—something familiar. If Dean weren't bleeding out on the cold concrete, he would call out to his brother once more, one last attempt to bring him back. ''I love you,'' he wished to say, but he couldn't breathe anymore, feeling the blood pooling in his lungs.
Finally, after a moment, Sam's eyes were his again—the ones Dean would recognize anywhere. His kid's eyes. Sam dropped down next to his brother, his expression nothing short of horror. Maybe 'distraught' would work better. Dean tried to reach out, to whisper, ''It's okay, I love you,'' but his limbs remained unresponsive, and darkness overtook his vision.
He heard his name, screamed by his little brother, and wished he could ease the pain in Sam's voice. If only Dean's mind weren't so foggy, he'd hear Sam's apologies and desperate pleas. ''Breathe, please breathe, Dean. Don't leave me. Wake up, buddy.''
''It's okay, I love you,'' Dean wanted to say, but it was too late.
