So I've seen SG fans upset that Kara said Luke was cute in the batwoman episode because they felt like it was out of character. They kept saying it was done because she was with Kate & they used it to make a dig at the fans that thought Kate & Kara were flirty/had romantic chemistry in last years crossover. They keep saying doing this was harmful to their wlw fans, but I honestly didn't think anything about during the episode?
Dude, whatever.
Kara salivated over James in the first fucking episode of Supergirl. She's attracted to men (seemingly, exclusively). Wonder when dctv fans will get over it. (I could and probably should word this nicer but I'm frustrated and frankly unapologetic about it at this point). Like, I get it as a lesbian, a small part of me would prefer every female character was a lesbian for purely indulgent and selfish reasons, too, but a much bigger, smarter, part wants representation for all women across the spectrum of sexuality.
Do they want writers to make Kara queer under pressure? This is what angers me about this. If you have to BEG and BULLY a character into being queer like...is that really what you want??? Is your representation worth so little that you'd accept that?
Kara WAS a cute bumbling mess last crossover, cool. All true. She cute. But she's not gay. And anyway Kate isn't on Supergirl, it's completely inconsequential to writers for fans to ship those two. There was no need for them to consciously make a decision to curve them be having Kara just acknowledge an attraction she might have to some guy.
And Kate doesn't have chemistry with anyone, imo. I think Ruby is doing a good job. I do think she's recieved an unfair level of scrutiny and criticism about her acting HOWEVER she really does have a lot to work on. One of those things is getting into the emotional space of the world around her character. It's like she's so focused on playing Kate, that all she's doing is playing Kate. She's reading her lines, she's trying to nail the emotion and range of Kate. But she's not immersing herself in Kate's world and authentically connecting people in Kate's life. There's a distance between Kate and everyone because whatever meta ass expert level acting is required for this, she has not mastered yet. So, I don't see her "chemistry" with anyone yet. Not with Mary, Sophie (just enough to ship it, but their backstory is the main drive), Beth.... and I think that's the cause of my own distance with Kate. She's playing on the surface of this show and therefore can't pull me into it.
