Reached the Divine tree arc of my rewatch, and I'm still laughing about Mob asking for support to move the broccoli and Reigen is like "well Serizawa is in school, gotta need someone else".
The whole town is getting brainwashed and that man is doing like 7th grade math or something.
You gotta have priorities.

I always felt bad for ChiChi because she was probably one of the most criticized characters on the show. Toriyama wanted to make her the traditional Japanese mother that cared about her children's education but people took it the wrong way 😭
They also like to forget that Gohan wanted to be a scholar and wasn't forced to study all the time. I think she was was just helping her son but got kind of overboard like some parents do
Understandable why her character got ruined because Toriyama himself hates Chichi apparently 😭 So we can't really blame the people who hates Chichi bc the author hates his character himself and it's like he made people hate her too lmao.
Anyway, at this point, Chichi's character just like the rest of non fighters, except Bulma, seemed to be there just for the gag. We cannot really take Chichi's characterization as serious anymore, especially her constant nagging because I feel like it was meant to be the 'gag' part in between chaos, supposed to be perceived as a diversion from the serious moments at least (like a break or some sort from seriousness/fights). Although, Toriyama is probably the only one who finds it funny lmao. Culture-wise, he is intentionally exaggerating the 'asian mom' trope because that is the comedic aspect of it.
That's why I don't think it's even worth it trying to analyze her character or even making sense of it because she is literally just there to supposedly be the comedic part of the cast to veer away from serious fighting from time to time.
If we do try to be critical, then it also makes sense that Chichi doesn't want Gohan to fight because of course, he is her son and she loves him. Saiyan or not, he is her baby and doesn't want him to get hurt in any way, even if he is strong. But, to say that Chichi did not force Gohan is also false. She was already pushing the scholar agenda even before Gohan can even talk. I don't hate her at all, she is thinking about his future for the better. However, undeniably, she was incredibly controlling of him to the point that Gohan never really had any choice to be what he could have wanted to be.
Yes, what he could have wanted to be. As a child, Gohan was never a blank slate. Chichi honed him to have the mindset of pursuing the life of an academic. No four-year old would say he wants to be a scholar on his own. So, no one really knows what Gohan would have wanted to be for himself because as a baby, he was already programmed by his mother to be a scholar, while his father wanted to pass down martial arts to him.
That's why if we observe Goten and all other kids in the show, they were the kids who were 'blank slate', meaning they acted like kids who never thought about future yet, which was the total opposite of Gohan. With Goku's death, Chichi became more lenient for Goten and let him do whatever. And, that's also why Goten got more room to think about what he wants to be and even at this point, we don't even know what he truly wants to be.
Although, we know that Chichi is back to being strict again in his studies as well because Goku is alive now lmao.
And, like I said, no need to take her character seriously at this point because it's pretty much for light-hearted comedic purposes.
