A while ago I stumbled about a post saying that letting a hobbit loose outside of their natural habitats will lead to them finding important plot items.
... Is not for the faint of heart but by god it's effective!
Which was really interesting and kind of implied that this was the reason why Gandalf keeps sending those poor little fellows out.
But. But:
This brings up a very very important question: If Gandalf went to the shire to look for a burglar because he knew a hobbit would be their best chance to find one(!) single gem stone in Erebor, well, how did he find that out?
And how much other crazy stuff did he find because a hobbit accidentally stumbled over it?
