absolutely unwell with a need to write Gaara's Kazekage Election Campaign bc help him he's like 13 and does not know how to write a good speech. character breakdowns under the cut.

Gaara - fresh off the murder train. Forgot how to emote under that sand armor. Absolute maximum autism coding but genuinely, seriously wants the spot bc he wants to protect the village and turn his life around. Also 13. Baby boy.

Temari - supportive big sister. There to tell him important stuff like "this is how you smile" and "no not like that" and bc it was her idea to go to Leaf Village for help from:

Shikamaru - the smartest person Temari knows, who absolutely teases her for it but takes it all seriously and gets his mentor/his dad's advice too. Also there to low-key flirt with Temari. (It works)

Naruto - Gaara's role model, unfortunately, for being considered friendly and harmless. Does technically help but only when reined in by:

Sakura - roped in bc "hey if you liked Sasuke you'll like this broody guy right?" and also as the other person who fought Gaara and is still kind of scared of him. The only sane person and the litmus test for "am I on the right track to earn everyone's trust?" (Rock Lee is an outlier and cannot be counted) Plus, oops, she DOES like this one bc this is what Sasuke could have been if he'd bothered to try... and unlike Naruto he isn't a pervert.
