I know Joel has said in several places that this case is his favourite ACD story, so expectations are high… and not being disappointed so far!

I already loved this one at 3 minutes in, with the opening montage of part 1 being totally over the top, mega blockbuster crime of the century style, and then the next thing we get is Sherlock practising the clippity-clop thing and looking for a new home for 327 ants.

Sherlock being a train geek (of course he is) and going on about the ghost trains just after John went on about the creepy Dartmoor legends got me, too. In my book, Silver Blaze has never had a gothic horror vibe to it, but it may well have now! Let’s see how that aspect will develop.

Oh and scrolling on our phone to the point of existential crisis till we pass out is so how we all fall asleep these days, isn’t it. Jonk Watson, the true Everyman for the 21st century.

And then we get feeeeels, too!

Starting with "Talk to me, John." - 🥹🥹🥹 The incredible intimacy of that little moment. Also, another 'John', seemingly out of nowhere - is this Sherlock being incredibly finely attuned to the moments where John's war trauma may re-emerge, such as in this scene where they’re viewing a very badly injured body, ready to step in with whatever emotional support may be needed? If so, our boy has come a long way already since the first sweet but clumsy "Would you like to hold hands and talk about your emotions?" when they were viewing the body in Thor Bridge and I’M HERE FOR IT.

And what was that shower scene??? Things getting very much *less weird* for Sherlock while he stares at his dear companion in the shower (who presumably doesn’t shower fully or even half dressed) and imagines what life would be without him? If this show was heading in an unequivocal Johnlock direction, I‘d say this was an awakening. As it is, I don’t believe for a second that Sherlock was high. He just wanted reassurance that John would stay in the picture forever, whatever exactly you like to imagine the picture to be. 😭

More lovely details:

"Cinderella will go to the ball" - "You stop being so bloody clever, and I will stop with the compliments." And literally two minutes later it’s "I'm not asking you to be comfortable, I’m asking you to help me solve the case!" and John being Sherlock’s literal beast of burden so Sherlock can look over a wall that even little John Watson climbs without any assistance only a minute later.

Sherlock Holmes telling John Watson to get on his knees as if this isn’t the moment the Sherlock Holmes fandom has been waiting for for over 140 years.

The limping sheep in part 1 had me going 👀 already, and now the cataract knife has made its appearance, I really don’t expect a lot of surprises when we get to the denouement, and I'm assuming that the fact that there is an imprint of the letter S from the walking stick on the head of the murder victim just means that there was a violent confrontation quite some time before June actually died. Why else would Sherlock agree with Inspector Gregory that the imprint is there, but also with John that those extensive and massive injuries could not have been caused by a single blow with a stick? Nope, not sensing any dramatic plot twists compared to the original version this time. Let’s see if I was right!

Didn’t expect that a Mayopan episode of all the seasonals would be the first to make me cry this season 😭 heartbreaking but beautiful episode. Fu and Aya’s story hit right in the feels and this was easily the most emotional episode of the summer seasonals, showing that this show isn’t just laughs and Yuri fanservice, but an actual well written story.

I had a feeling things were gonna be sad with Aya and Fu in the end, but I didn’t think it would be because Aya’d die. Thought they’d just fall out over Fu being a vampire. I’m such a sucker for stories where two characters have a falling out and sadly never get to make up or properly convey their feelings because one character’s sudden passing. It’s something that hits so deep and close to home because a lot of us have had people irl whether friends or family that we’ve lost and maybe didn’t end on good terms.

The twist that Aya and Fu’s meetings had to have taken place in like the 80s was well done. They hinted at it when Masaki brought up cassette tapes, but man, that still means Aya passed pretty young. 💔

I wish so bad that Fu could’ve let Aya know she was a vampire and didn’t abandon her that day intentionally.. but even with that, Aya still saw Fu as her motivation and reason for singing and never hated her for it. If anything that makes it even harder to see 😭. You never know when it’s the last time you’ll see someone, so don’t live with regrets, let them know what they mean to you.

Fu’s song at the end of the episode was a beautiful way to wrap everything up and I like to think that Aya was there with her in spirit singing just like the old days.

On an aside, Yuki is really starting to get on my nerves. She destroyed the girls’ SD card last week and then her nasty comments to Fu discouraging her from her dreams. It’s like she takes her insecurities and failings out on others and I hate it.

seeing your site and the stuff you do with pokemon games makes me want to play the old pokemon gens and maybe try RNG manipulation and ACE. do you have any advice for a beginner? do i need multiple consoles or is my single 3ds good enough?

probably a good idea @ the mention of our site to give a heads up that rng manip in gens 1/2 isn’t really a thing (oh boy ACE sure is though) (also ty we’re flattered btw BDNDNSK)

if you’re just wanting to have a good time with the older pokemon games one 3DS is fine, if you want to be able to stuff like complete the dex you’ll need at least two for trading/connectivity unless you’re down to hack your 3DS to back up save files and move your pokemon to and from saves with a save editor, in which case you’d still only need the one. the only gap on 3DS is the GBA games which can be injected thru once again. hacking ur 3DS. which you can do here btw, as long as u follow the instructions and have an SD card and SD card reader it’s easy

tldr one 3DS = no multiplayer with yourself, one hacked 3DS = pretty much anything major or important between games can be handled through save backup editing or emulation if that’s your thing

now that being said in regards to RNG manipulation and ACE, retail RNG manipulation is doable on the 3DS but it’s a massive pain in comparison to the original DS hardware (or DS lite, which is what i use) so it’s good to keep that in mind. i also don’t know how ACE may or may not be affected on injected gen 3 games, though i think the emulation of the gen 1/2 games thru VC is good enough that ACE should be pretty much the same. but yeah if ur using a 3DS for like, HGSS manip, just a heads up you’re giving yourself a harder time 😭 still doable tho!

Everyone made room for everyone else, no pushing/shoving, everyone got time with whoever tehy wanted (I was there specifically for Kev C so made sure to let everyone elseup to the barricade for everyone else and got my chance with Kev when it came). Compared to Friday, where teh SD was nuts. So not sure what day you're going, but I was impressed with etiquette at least by my end yesterday!

thank god 😭 i’ve heard some horror stories about stage door-i think it also depends on the day. im going on a saturday night (53 days is going by like a fucking snail) and i’ve heard that tends to be particularly rough-i’m not too like..familiar at doing stage door? i’ve done it once at hadestown when u was eleven or twelve (when some lady literally shoved me lmfao) and once when i saw once upon a one more time (saw this with my auntie and she wanted to meet the actresses because she was just so impressed and wanted to pay respects) but even then it was kind of chill but i think the latter was because it wasn’t a very “popular” show for lack of better words.

sorry for the ramble, i’ve been meaning to ask/talk about this because i have no idea what SD is like. but i’ve heard people can be so rude to each other and the actors and i just don’t know if i wanna get myself into that. especially since being in big areas like that especially in somewhere as loud as NYC i just get nervous about getting hurt.

anyway, i’ll shut up lol-if you wanna add on or if you have advice (or if anyone else does) please please please shoot me an ask! i can use all the help and suggestions i can get tbh

What are some of your favorite quips/jokes that vm have made, in interviews or otherwise. I don’t know it verbatim but I love that pyc one - interviewer: is this the greatest ending to a love story? T: well my character dies at the end so I hope not! or when vm did commentary at the 2022 olys - interviewer: you guys are just bouncing off of each other! S: we’ve met 🤭

Haha yes I love that first one! I love when T is sassy and has no time for peoples… not ‘shit’ in all cases- like this wasn’t BS but when she has good, harmless clap backs.

I actually didn’t know about that second one from them commentating! That’s adorable 😭

-I love when they play the newlywed game in that skate canada package and T kinda spit takes/snorts out a laugh when he says ‘that’s what I usually do when people have a phobia is tend not to believe them’

Also in the newlywed game:

-when he has to write T’s bday and pretends not to know it and then says ‘of course I’m right’

- ‘I can write this with one hand’. ‘With one hand as opposed to two?’

-Basically the entire newlywed game removed from the ‘sleep habits’ bit which people can’t seem to get over which I could give plenty of normal explanations for other than it was just a fkn joke.

- when they are doing a little sit down interview with fans and one of the questions is ‘did you ever have to skate a program you did not like’ and they say ‘Maleguenia’ (spelling 🥴) and at the end of the answer Scott kinda emotionless/straight faces ‘but we won. 😑We won junior worlds😑’. x

- ‘that’s our biggest goal. And maybe to open Tessa’s left eye’ x

-It’s wordless (at least from the pov of the camera) but during a practice at nationals in 2017 (practicing Prince) they finish with their hands up and they quickly kinda bounce their hands down and look at each other like they’re flirting and T kinda shoos him/pretends to hit him and she turns away and he takes her hands from behind her back and throws them apart.. there may have been a joke said or if not just looking at each other they know what the joke is and that was the physical reaction to it.

-Scott making fun of Tessa for telling some snotty kid off when they were kids training in Detroit x (T’s face is priceless at Scott imitating her).

-Even though is a bit deeper Scott basically saying to Tessa’s face that she’s a blessing to him, then followed it up with ‘don’t tell her that’- the way it makes T super (subtly) emotional then with that quip she cracks up (into the sweetest little giggle). x

-When they do their evening news sit down interview leading up to the olys and they are talking about how their biggest fear is letting each other down- same thing as above he gets her kinda in the moment- her listening to him say that and feeling the exact same way, then it breaks her when he says jokingly ‘I don’t see that happening, do you’, and she responds “never, no you couldn’t”. 😭😭😭 x

-T retelling what Scott said to her before their SD in Sochi- the ‘no matter what…’ line and he follows up with jokingly saying T gets super sentimental before they skate and that makes her laugh- if I were to put on my faux-psychologist hat for a moment I’d say that was him covering for his emotions with humour. x

Basically anytime they take the shit out of each other bc they both have such wonderful senses of humour and don’t take themselves too seriously and bc they basically speak their own language they react to things that are so specific and only the two of them understand. The level of trust and knowing of each other (not to get too deep on a post about quips) but that allows them to be so….. free with each other (in all senses) but in this sense knowing what not to step on in terms of insecurities and sensitive points they would never publicly share or foil each other’s personality for the sake of a joke. And just in general their rapport- how they bounce off each other is mesmerising 💖

-Oh and of course Scott saying ‘we’re second’ at the end of the FD competition in 2010 and then essentially tackling her in a hug.

There’s so many more but I’d be writing a book here if I listed them all.

i feel like this is pretty much common sense and just basic etiquette but is there anything i should keep in mind at the stagedoor so i dont make anybody uncomfortable or ruin the experience for anyone? im new to this typa thing and i might be going to the show soon so i dont wanna do anything wrong. i know to keep in mind boundaries with the actors and to not shove anybody or anything but how do i get ppls attention? ive seen in SD videos people just call out the names of the actors but is that rude at all? anything at all i should keep in mind would be appreciated🙏🙏

if you’re in the front at the barricade, you won’t need to really get their attention,,they’ll just work their way over to you! if you’re a little deeper in the crowd, you’re best bet is to just hold your playbill up and try to reach it over to the actor!

obviously if u wanna get a certain one of them’s attention you can just call out their name, nothing wrong with that! just don’t do it repeatedly or bombard them LOL it’s overwhelming out there enough as a fan, i can’t imagine what it’s like for the cast.

and just be considerate of those around you! obviously wait your turn, be respectful, etc. but also advocate for yourself and speak up if need be! i had gotten mixed in with a group one of the times i went and jason had thought he’d signed my playbill, so he moved down the line and i had to call him back so i could talk to him!! (not a big deal at all btw. i felt so bad b/c he was so apologetic 😭) but just speak up for yourself, be respectful, and you’ll have a great time!

I’m currently rewatching TLOU, and I’m currently watching episode 3 (Bill and Frank) and it hits me that they have a similar dynamic to Joel and Honey in SDLN.

Frank wants to Live- make a home in their town just like Honey at the cabin and well, we know Bill and Joel are both similar in the way that they’re survivalists.

When Frank shows Bill the strawberries, Bill tells him that he was never scared until Frank showed up. Can’t remember if Joel ever says that in SDLN but I get the feeling that’s true. He just wants to protect you!!!!! 😭😭😭 (I’m not crying you’re crying!)

And then when the raiders come to Bill and Frank’s, we see that Frank doesn’t really know what to do in terms of firing back/ grabbing a gun. He just runs out to save his man! Bill is the protector. He shields Frank to save some of that optimism that the world isn’t all bad all the time, JUST LIKE JOEL DOES!!!!!!

I don’t know if this parallel was intentional but it’s so beautiful nonetheless!

Yes! Their relationship has a very similar dynamic and when writing SD, I have tried to weave as many elements into the story as possible from whatever inspired me in canon: Joel's soft, teasing personality, Bill and Frank's give and take, their garden (!) and entire thought process (the night that episode aired I was so fucking excited because I had already begun SD in my drafts and then I was magically gifted canon source material!), this concept that there are HUGE swathes of land with no one around...that episode in particular was definitely inspiring and it makes me so happy that you can see those elements in there ❤
