i should...... gonna start right now cuz ive actually thought about mitsugiyu for the GiyuusFuckingSad au- when hes still moping around in the cafeteria corner she pops over because she saw shinobu, shinobu stops her excited rambling and explains that its Quiet Time and shes like 'oh! okay! i can be quiet!' and she just hangs around to doodle in her sketchbook across from them. giyuu once again baffled by another random girl deciding she wants to hang out near(with?) him when hes literally never said a word in response.

she sees him in the halls and tries to talk with him, he responds minimally but shes encouraged by any response at all and talks to him outside the cafeteria any chance she gets- giyuu's incredibly confused as to why she likes talking to him so much, but one time when he realizes he missed the turn to his class about three halls ago finally notices how much he enjoys listening to her stories (he ended up just walking her to class to hear the end of the story, he was a few minutes late when he got back to his own)

when shinobu starts inviting him to little outings with her friends mitsuri's the first to welcome him, kyojuro and suma quickly follow and hes. very overwhelmed. why did he get introduced to the loudest ones of the friend group first?? contrary to what he thought would happen though, they actually love him and despite how hype the three of them get (and how not hype he usually is) he doesn't ever feel left out or pushed to the side (physically speaking too- suma frequently hangs off him since hes the most stable one around now and mitsuri & kyojuro aren't hesitant to pull him in to make him focus on whatever they're talking about. he likes how free they are with affection towards him like that)

months later he's acquainted with and knows the whole group and they're all out at a restaurant chatting and having fun- giyuu notices how entranced everyone else is at kyojuro's retelling of a story and he can't help but think how much sabito would like them all... mitsuri stops paying attention to kyo and turns to him, "Giyuu? Are you okay?" "Yeah, why?" "You're crying"

the grief finally hits, the tears get heavier despite his attempts at drying them before he starts to panic and excuses himself- he practically runs out and mitsuri worriedly glances back at everyone before excusing herself and running after him. she follows him to the side of the restaurant in the little alley where hes having his breakdown and hugs him- he buries his face in her shoulder and holds back shaking like a leaf for a while before the worst of it passes. she asks what happened, "I-i just- he'd like you all.. he would've loved to meet you.." she knows who hes talking about- well.. she knows he was extremely important to giyuu, and that something happened and he's not around anymore, and that its extremely painful for giyuu to talk about so he just doesn't. she says shes honored by his thought and goes on to try to calm him down/cheer him up, his face looks a mess from the splotchy flush and eye liner- it got smudged to hell and back and hes a little embarrassed by it. only for a moment tho because mitsuri immediately offers to fix it for him. when they're finally ready to go back in they notice obanai standing at the entrance of the alleyway, blocking the view from outsiders. "aw! you're so thoughtful obanai!" "You two good to head back inside now?" "how long were you standing there?" "long enough, you worried everyone running off like that" "sorry.." "don't apologize, idiot. c'mon, lets go eat" and they followed an excited mitsuri back to the rest of the group.

after that mitsuri started inviting him to her apartment to practice makeup art on him since she knew he was okay with it. he was good at sitting still and he liked how gently she touched and moved his face however while she worked, quiet and serene with her music playing from the room over- the first thing she tried out was a simple little water-esque mark on his left cheek. when he was finally allowed to look at it he remembered the time when they were kids and sabito backhanded him there for saying he wished he had died with his sister. remembered how badly he wished he could have gone with sabito too. remembered his final words, 'promise me you'll love again'

he looks back up at mitsuri with a little smile, maybe that promise isn't as impossible for me to keep as i thought. "i like it" "oooh! i just had another idea! what if i made it look like a stream of water coming out the corners of your mouth!?"

sooo i'm on a seminar for the whole week and i bring you kny modern au characters going on a six hour canoe trip because that's what i'll be forced to do tomorrow

super excited for the trip: mitsuri (it's all she talks about for days), kyojuro (has never been canoeing before and is really eager to learn it), douma (hopes to see boats capsize), akaza (his gymbro brain is trained to be excited about every sporty thingy ever), nezuko (she's an otter she's a mermaid, the real challenge is keeping her out of the water and inside the boat)

prepared to the point of paranoid: aoi (aggressively reminds everyone to put on suncream at least ten times), tanjiro (brings water for the whole group and then some), shinobu (a first aid kit for you! and a first aid kit for you! first aid kits for everybody!)

lowkey scared of the trip: zenitsu (i'm lying, he's highkey scared of the trip), sanemi (deep water be kinda sus okay), senjuro (kyojuro talks him through it tho), kanae ("something will go wrong i can feel it")

capsizes ten minutes into the trip: muichiro (wasn't paying attention and paddled right into the reed), genya (had the great misfortune to share a boat with muichiro), sabito (was too busy laughing at genya and muichiro to pay attention to where he was paddling), makomo (saw the obstacle coming and gladly let sabito paddle into it just to wipe that grin off his face), inosuke (it's a miracle he didn't take the whole fleet down with him)

chilling at the beach: tengen (if you think he's getting his hair wet for this you're out of your mind), gyomei (some risks shouldn't be taken), kanao (busy preparing the picnic for when the others return), giyuu (going into a tiny shaky boat when you can't swim is just. not a great idea.)

fakes a migraine and stays home: obanai (thank you but no thank you)

Oh gosh team all in makes me laugh akjrekajrje Mitsuri's absolutely delighted- she's got a waterproof camera so they can take pictures for her scrapbook; Kyojuro's a fast learner and ends up helping Akaza after the redhead struggles with it (gymbro brain ajkrekrjej I love it!) Douma's got his own waterproof camera so he can make a powerpoint presentation of everytime someone capsized over but ends up taking lots of pictures of Nezuko just living her little mermaid life cause she's so freaking cute! (Granted things get a little messy when she almosts gets into a fist fight with a tuna but that is neither here or there)

KJRJERJE THE BUTTERFLY GIRLS KJERKJEKJ Aoi's got that industrial sized can of spray on sunscreen and just coats everyone like it's a game of Splatoon- meanwhile Shinobu's forces them all to watch a CPR/First aid video so they're all informed on what to do if someone goes down (does it accidentally turn into that scene from the office? Yeah. It does) Tanjiro on water duty with his aggressive kindness being all "TAKE THE WATER!" and then sweetly saying "Thank you!" when they do is EVERYTHING KREJRJKERKJ

Oh God I feel Sanemi on that kjarkaejrkej He's seen all the deep sea scary movies and documentaries to know he doesn't mess with deep water- that plus Kanae having her sixth sense that something will go wrong is enough to have him almost back out of the trip altogether. I like to think the only thing keeping him in is Genya- the idea of him getting snatched away by the Kraken makes him sick ("Sanemi the Kraken isn't real-" "I SAW IT! I saw it at the aquarium! It was huge!" "Sanemi that was squid- and a statue of one at that.")

ERJEJKRJE SABITO! He's such a dork- he'd go "HAHA!" before absolutely capsizing himself. Poor Genya gets Muichiro's hair on him and is all "THE KRAKEN!" while said boy is just trying to untangle it from the paddle. They're not even five feet from the beach and still on shallow water so they all just kinda sitting in chest high water panicking while Makomo laughs. Inosuke's likely just floating by on his back like a castaway, someone has to tie a rope on his ankle so he doesn't drift out to open sea.

KJREKJRJKEKJ Tengen is all out in a speedo on the beach getting a tan- someone draws a dick on his chest with sunscreen that he doesn't realize is there until the next day (it was Sabito. Giyu might have helped.) Gyomei's the guy who walks along the water in a big sun hat like a traveler from another world- just enjoying himself but ever confused when people come up to him asking what world he's from. Kanao's making lunch with Shinobu and Kanae while Senjuro's pulling Inosuke back to shore via the rope, etc. etc. They're all just so cute AH!

Obanai is me akjreakjreakjkjre I love the beach but put me in a group that big and I'd fake a migraine too and stay curled up in my bed kjarkjekjreakj He'd absolutely love the pictures Mitsuri sends him though- they plan a little one on one vacation to the beach together down the road.

I’ve see you’re a fellow RenAkaza fan, and wanted to pick your brain. I have a couple of headcanons that I haven’t seen in fics re; these two :)

One, flowers: something about a boy looking for a flower has my captivated. What do you think about:

Akaza asking to look through the Rengoku library for info about flowers, accidentally (intentionally) giving away Muzans intentions..

Akaza having tons of knowledge about flowers since he’s been searching for them for so long, maybe knowing about medical uses for some flowers and not knowing why.

Akaza leaving flowers for Kyojuro that he’s found along during his search, that have a very specific meaning and our flame Hashira having no idea about it, but enjoying the attention. (Aka, Akaza loses track of who he’s looking for flowers for.) Eventually out of habit he finds the flower Muzan wants, and Akaza gives that one to Kyojuro too.

And if that’s not enough, I have an idea about Muzan telling Akaza that he’s done messing around with Kyojuro, and the next time he sees him, he’s ordered to kill him or something, so Akaza has to avoid “seeing” Kyojuro, but tries to work around loop holes so he can stay around him. This has the added benefit of Kyojuro being like the sun, another thing he’s not allowed to look at anymore.

Anyway, those what has been bouncing around my head. Thank you for your time, 😂

HRRNG YES the flower one is fucking me up bc like?? it's just hitting me now that Akaza's mission is to hunt down this flower, of course he has to have a basic knowledge of flowers from his research alone. Combine that with how ridiculously down bad he is for Kyojuro and Akaza may as well become a florist omfg.

I really do love this idea, especially if Kyojuro knows it's from Akaza but like, he's so convinced Akaza is his enemy that he assumes it's his way of taunting him or somehow a threat (maybe the first flower he gives also has a kind of bittersweet connotation to it that Akaza didn't consider so now Kyojuro thinks they all have bad meanings) and it really messes with him bc he's already mad that he's kind of crushing on a demon of all things, and now he's giving him mocking gifts? Great.

And he keeps thinking this until Akaza leaves a HUGE bouquet, one with many different flowers, and Mitsuri happens to be over that day (she totally knows flower language by heart I know it). She's beyond impressed by Kyojuro's secret admirer and jumps to be like, "wow, Kyojuro! Someone must really love you!" and when he asks what she means, she details that the flowers he's been given mean things like admiration, eternal love, etc. And Kyojuro is FLOORED. How can a demon love him? And Akaza? A kizuki??? He almost faints asjkhfkjdk

So uh, good luck with that when you see Akaza next, Kyo. I'm sure it'll be fine :)

It’s been like a day & I still cannot stop thinking about that Renkaza art you reblogged immediately followed by that post about cannibalism being a metaphor for love. I have no clue if that was intentional but djsklaa that’s so real omfg

Haha, it wasn’t really, but cannibalism as a metaphor for love is one of the big reasons I adore renkaza (as well as most kny ships involving at least one demon). There are so many fun things to explore with it!

One of my favorite headcanons is that demons have a difficult time discerning pretty much any strong emotion from hunger. Their wires get crossed because “hunger” is a demon’s main state of being. Cannibalism as a metaphor for love for them works so well because it’s difficult for them to figure out if they love someone, or just really, really want to eat them (this is one of favorite things to consider when it comes to Douma’s relationship with Kotoha and eventually Shinobu. He claims to be emotionless, and it doesn’t help that the emotions he does feel loop right back around to hunger, which inevitably leads to him eating these women. Sorry. Tangent over Lmao)

And again, for demon/human relationships especially, you get to play with the idea of the demon wanting to devour them, loving them so much that that’s what they desperately want, but in Akaza and Kyojuro’s sake (I think I have actually gone over this in fics before), Akaza stressing that some parts of him desperately want to eat Kyojuro, but he loves him too much to do that, because as wonderful as he would taste, that would mean he’d never get to see him again

AND THEN!!!! You have the whole other fun angle of cannibalism as a love language, in scenarios where Kyojuro becomes a demon himself. “I love you so much I am willing to become a monster, I am willing to become a cannibal, I am willing for our dinners together to consist of humans.” That love being so encompassing that it becomes hunger. It’s like food as a love language but way more metal

I have the fic where Akaza licks Kyojuro’s wounds. The fic centric on biting being their love language. Pretty much everything that happened in as sweet as blood. The one smut-shot where Kyo transforms and uh, chows down on Akaza while they’re fucking and Akaza loving it because of how intimate it is. Romanticized cannibalism is something I love exploring!

And it doesn’t even necessarily have to be romantic or sexual! Like some of my all time favorite “cannibalism as a metaphor for love” scenes I’ve ever done are in my role swap AU. Like Mitsuri’s backstory, when Kyojuro, Senjuro, and Kanae feed Mitsuri the villagers that condoned her execution right after she transforms, when the whole fic had been about them feeding her and helping her recover from her eating disorders born from her internalized sexism and the torment she faced for being strange and a “bad” woman. It’s Sanemi going out and killing and butchering men to feed Shizu when his blood is no longer enough to tide her over, because he loves her more than he dreads being a killer, and Shizu loves her children enough to become a cannibal to halt the risk of her harming them. It’s Tanjiro telling Nezuko he hopes her hunts go well, because as horrifying as it is, he doesn’t want his sister to go hungry

Wait until you see what I have planned for Kyojuro’s demonic transformation in his corruption arc fic. Because oh man… I am dialing up the romanticized cannibalism so high for that one

Shinobu was the first to notice a small change in him, despite Giyuu being his usual self around his peers.

Well, the reason was simple—at least for someone who had never fallen in love.

Yes, Giyuu had fallen in love—badly, very badly.

That night, when he rescued you from the demons, he was ready to leave just after checking that you hadn't caught any kind of injury that needed some medical assistance, and, for some reason, your face and your voice seemed so pretty and endearing to him.

For some mysterious reason, he started to follow you around. Be aware; he knew how creepy that kind of action was, but he easily dismissed it, thinking that he was just protecting you from every kind of danger.

Oh, you were so kind and gentle with everyone; it was like you were some kind of reincarnated Buddha! What he didn't understand were your actions when he was clearly around you.

In order to quit that creepy behavior (and make sure that no one else was interested in you), he started to drop by every day at the small Udon shop that you and your old uncle were taking care of, and every day he was sure that you must have hated him for some reason.

You were cheerful just before his head appeared in the shop! At first, he believed that maybe you were still angry for the accidents from the night that you two met; maybe you didn't like the slayer?

No wait, Mitsuri was the one who said that you worked there; she was a frequent client! So that couldn't be the case! Did you find out that he was silently following you every night? That was the one who had hidden a small wysteria protection charm in your house, wasn't he? Did you just hate him?

He was used to that; he hated himself, but for some reason, the idea of being hated by you made his heart sink.

One night, during his now-new mission, he finally got the answer.

"Seriously, Y/N, you need to fix this attitude of yours!"

"It's not like I can fix this, uncle. Every time I see him, I freeze!"

"He's already a silent one! How is he going to catch your messages if you just put more food on his plate?"

"I didn't even get the chance to properly thank him for saving me! And besides, he's a slayer and a hero. It's not like he could even look at some random Udon seller."

"Your shyness will be your doom, my dear Y/N. Well, I pray that Tomioka can finally see it by himself."

Oh, he did see it; he saw it all.

So that's what it was—you were too shy to even try to talk to him? How could he not get it faster? Well, lucky shot that there was still some Udon left that night.

Sometimes, Akaza was sure that instead of a human, he caught an animal. Maybe a mouse or a rabbit—yeah, rabbits are far cuter, just like you.

The day that those lower demons brought you to him like a present for him, a way to show how they were devoted even to him, he felt repulsed. Not only did they think that he could have been swayed in such a low way like Douma, but they even brought him a woman! How insulting and despicable, especially towards him.

He felt bad for you—for the kidnapping, for forcing you to see how he killed them, and for the fact that they had injured you in order to bring you to him.

He decided, against so many natural laws between humans and demons, to take care of you—at least until your wounds weren't healed. He couldn't remember why, but he felt at ease seeing you so scared and in pain.

Despite his noble actions, there is something cliche in him—something maybe darker than eating you. He didn't want to let you go, not even after your body was fully healed. You were so precious, so delicate, and so weak. Letting you go would have just led to a slow and painful death, not to mention that Muzan wouldn't like the idea of one of his Upper Moons with a small human.

Despite all this, Akaza hid you in an abandoned house, seeking to spend an eternity with you—maybe turning you into a demon—but he still wanted to savor the small and shy you.

No matter how much time had passed, you still couldn't open up to him. He has brought you some things that he knew humans loved; he even was able to convince Daki to give him some old kimonos, but nothing. Every time he was able to come to your new home to visit you, you hid yourself away.

Still, he never felt fear towards you—well, there was, but never enough to explain your behavior.

One night, he decided to test it. After leaving a small box full of Dango, he pried to leave, waiting for your small figure to appear near the box. In a jump, he was already on you—hugging you from behind, expecting you to rush around, hurt him, anything.

Nothing.

You stayed there. A small IP escaped from your mouth, and your heart bumped in your chest. Akaza sniffed you, searching for...something...a strange smell...arousal? Some embarassment? ... It was..

"...OH MY! HA! If I knew you were so shy, I wouldn't even try to make a trap for you, bunny!"

Aw man this is gonna be a little hard because while I love DS to death I haven't actually been involved much with the fandom (and my memory of anything before entertainment district & swordsmith village is hit and miss). So I'm using your post + various explorations on the internet to answer these and remind myself of stuff. This is truly what "[character name] all moments" videos are for lol

Nezuko x Muichiro - my entire impression is "it's cute, I'm in".

I tried to shake out my shipless brain and come up with something for Senjuro because he is my boy but no luck. But I do love his friendship with Tanjiro so much.

Likewise Genya has such Energy but I don't know where to apply that in terms of shipping.

Rengoku x Akaza - you are also right about this one like. they've got nothing imo. this is not a chemistry situation no matter what Akaza does or says. not interested.

Shinobu x Mitsuri - the thing that gets me about these two is that Shinobu has a completely different variety of cheerfulness than Mitsuri, and Mitsuri has a different kind of anger. Not that it makes it impossible that they would make a decent couple but I don't see the point of connection there.

Zenitsu x Nezuko - I love Zenitsu but he gets on my nerves so quickly when he's making a big deal about Nezuko. The more I think about it the more this one annoys me even though I don't Hate it, because Nezuko is also part of the Squad - in a different way than Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, but still. In this case I don't like the idea of intrasquad shippery.

What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?

Mitsuri x Obanai - I'm willing to give Obanai a chance based on the socks thing being cute. Otherwise he's kind of an asshole and if he continues being that way he can shove off.

Muichiro x Genya - I don't really See it but they at least have some measure of shared experience.

Tanjiro x Kanao - I agree with you that it is kind of boring. I think it could be more interesting, but I don't know. My vibe with Tanjiro is that either he's very aro or there just hasn't been anyone that's really brought that spark yet. They'd have to be pretty exceptional though considering how he treats everyone.

re: your list, I feel pretty neutral about Rengoku x Uzui and Giyu x Shinobu. If I see something good of them I would enjoy it but I don't care that much either way.

JUST READ CHAPTER 16 OF YSIK AND IT WAS AMAZINGGGG

When Kokushibo was watching reader while she was sleeping and it said how he did that every night i SCREAMEDDD i love all their moments (despite reader hating him ahah i gobble up every interaction possible). When Kokushibo saw the bloodied hair pin i was SO scared omg i hope he doesn’t realise Akaza was there…he better have a happy ending because i love Akaza too much for him to die 😭 I actually have no idea how the story will end, some part of me thinks reader will escape but does that mean all the demons die like in the original timeline? I’m also curious to see if reader actually warms up to Kokushibo…or maybe i am too delusional haha

Shinobu, Mitsuri and Gyomei planning to infiltrate Douma’s cult seems veryyyy intriguing, I’m really curious to see if they actually find out any information about reader! Once again, this fanfic is my current OBSESSION and i can’t wait for more 🥺 THANKS FOR WRITING IT AND HAVE A GREAT DAY :)))

i'm here to pop in with a tiny little modern au scenario that's driven me crazy all day and i can't get it out of my head - so as we established akaza studies educational science and at some point when kyojuro's friends are still in the process of getting closer to him the topic of their subjects comes up. it's late at night, they've all been talking for hours and akaza is leaning onto kyojuro half asleep, his contributions to the conversation are few and most of them are half sentences, he's really tired. sabito talks a bit about the elementary school where he works and mitsuri turns to akaza; "do you wanna be a teacher too? or... i don't know what else there is, what do you wanna do with it?" akaza thinks about the answer for a few seconds and they almost think he fell asleep already but then he answers in this really soft quiet voice you get when you're tired: "help." and before they can say anything to that he passes out on kyojuro's shoulder

*sobs* AHHHHHH! THIS IS SO CUTE! The idea of Akaza being very sleepy and just nodding along with everyone as the chat goes on; he's paying attention, he just doesn't have the strength to contribute now that he's been entrapped in Rengoku's cologne and the warmth of his shoulder.

And the soft little" "help."- JUST AHHH! I love the idea of Akaza possibly being a student counselor? The really great kind who understands even the toughest, most hurt kids and really gets to know each of them on a one to one level! He'd also be couch for the MMA club- they'd have a little dojo just outside the school and all the kids would greet him even if they don't go to the club cause as a counselor he's known for having little candies he gives all the kids who come by (his pockets are always full of treats. He keeps a plastic pumpkin head full of candy in his car 24/7 just for them). He's the chill but respectful kinda guy; a bit intimidating when you first meet him cause of his tattoos, expression and nature, but when you really get to know him you learn he will fight with his entire being for these kids.

which demon and slayer would you think would of had a good dynamic if they interacted ?

for me it's Mitsuri & Akaza. Mitsuri is like Koyuki personality wise and if Akaza caught her when/if her Sakura mochi supply runs out, she'd have black hair just like Koyuki. Also the love breathing style itself reminds demon slain but possibly the ones hit by it of love. Like Akaza's mind would be going haywire with how many memories Mitsuri could bring up just by being herself. Mitsuri would also be really passionate about killing the demon that slain her mentor and would probably put beyond everything she has to land some blows. I was actually planning on writing a fic but didn't think the idea would be too interesting on its own.

Lady Tamayo and Shinobu would be really interesting though since it would be essentially Kanae's dreams realized, humans and demons standing together side by side

Oh yes okay I actually have three I’d like to list

My first is Lady Tamayo and Shinobu like you because wow!! I’d love this!! I think that Shinobu is a pretty big loner in the sense that she doesn’t have people she can really look up to or confides in, and I honestly think she can find that in Tamayo. On top of that, Tamayo’s only companion is someone who practically worships her, and while I love Yushiro, I think it’d be good and nice for her to have someone who has something in common with her and is, well, normal about her 😅 I think they’re both smart, capable women in the series and I would’ve liked for Shinobu to have actually spent time with her instead of just working on the cure, that would’ve been nice to see.

The other dynamic I would’ve liked is Gyutaro and Tanjiro. Idk if you meant in canon or hypothetically, but I think they’re interesting either way. They’re supposed to be direct parallels of each other being older brothers who went in opposite directions to save their little sister, and I would like to see them interact without the immediate need to fight and kill each other. I honestly could see them like the preppy younger kid annoying the hell out of their older emo cousin, but he kinda likes being the guy who slips them beer or smth idk lmaoo

My last one is Akaza and Inosuke because this is like, really funny to me aldjakkfkskf like they’re similar in their desire to be the strongest and hating weak people, so I think it’d be funny if they ever did find themselves in a situation where they interact without fighting. I think because Akaza is naturally stronger and more experienced, he would be someone Inosuke would want to fight/look up to, and try to prove himself in really dumb ways that get him hurt for no reason. I think Akaza would turn him down constantly but would get so tired of seeing him get his shit rocked that he would start giving him tips and teach him without even realizing it. Hey, I wanted to ask here because it isn't really important to the story, but in Last Sunrise how does Shinobu feel about Giyuu's death?

Like, how does she feel with the fact that the deppresed and somehow lazy (I don't think she saw him as someone hardworking, she in canon sees him as someone very distracted), who isolated himself, voiced against her experiments and even sided Sanemi after he helped Kyojuro, died like he clearly wanted. And she, who did everything for the cause and worked hard for what she wanted, didn't? (I like to think Shinobu in canon actually likes to socialize with Giyuu because she figured that like her, he is intending to die.)

Has she even noticed? Because again, Giyuu isn't that important and right now she has too much on her plate to care of how is anyone doing. She has even started to isolate herself, so unless the butterfly girls or Kanao told her she wouldn't know who survived and who didn't, besides with everything she is going through some deaths of people who were never arpund to begin with might take longer to sink in.

Yeah, so! Honestly (like you guessed) Shinobu isn't exactly processing everyone who died. She was told by the Butterfly Girls who died, as well as who was in critical condition and are now currently living in her estate due to injuries. So she does know, but she is... not exactly caring.

Part of it is due to the fact that she spent the first few weeks after the battle transforming, so she was unconscious, and then in so much pain she couldn't function. (She wasn't exaggerating when she told Akaza she spent days with her "skin sloughing off"), so she missed most of the grieving period most people got, as well as all the memorial services, so it feels less... real, that so many people died, including Giyuu

She is also most definitely pissed and grieving her own missed death. Because she is so bitter, she is definitely jealous and upset that so many people died while she was forced to live. Giyuu is not necessarily any more significant than characters like Mitsuri and Gyomei in that sense. However, she also has no idea how Giyuu died because no one told her. For all she knows, he just so happened to die. She doesn't know he deliberately sacrificed his life for Genya. If she knew that, she might harbor more intense feelings of envy towards Giyuu since he was able to sacrifice himself for the cause like she intended to, and with "little effort" on his part (quite literally just pushing Genya out of the way of Kokushibo's sword strike)

And now, with quite literally every bit of her focus being poured into recreating the cure, and isolating herself to the degree that pretty much the only person she talks to is Yushiro and maybe Kanao if she can catch her in the right mood, the potential grief and feelings for all the lives lost has been stalled even further

Ultimately, she's still stewing in so many of her own negative feelings (now coupled with guilt and regret over what she did to Kyojuro) that thinking about the people she's lost has been pushed so far back, whether it's negative or positive feelings about them. It won't be until much later that she actually considers it, and is able to have genuine feelings on all the death

do you have an ideal match for fights in infinity fortress arc that didnt happen in the manga? i always thought mitsuri vs akaza wouldve been an interesting fight, with mitsuri's familial relationship to kyojuro and akaza's aversion to eating women

This has taken me a while because I couldn't think of anything quite that insightful as the added rage Mitsuri might have for Kyojuro's killer, paired Akaza's aversion to fighting women. It'd also be interesting to throw Iguro into the mix, as he had a soft spot for Rengoku too, and Akaza would probably dislike Iguro and/or taunt him for being weak. (I already have an ideal for Akaza vs Shinobu, who is both weak and a woman.)

The only image I have had in my head for the weeks and weeks I've been thinking on this question is Himejima vs Nakime, purely because I'd love the satisfaction of her toying with everyone who can't see her spacial changes coming, only to have Himejima, who has an uncanny gut feeling for what's coming next and therefore unswayed by her surprises, just plowing through a newly appeared door to pommel her in the head. It'd be nice to see her surprised, and Himejima being a boss and telling everyone to quit fooling around and get a move on.

But just now I had a vision for who I would want to see with him in such an encounter: Yushiro and Zenitsu. As Himejima takes off most of Nakime's head in one hit, Yushiro digs his hand into what's left to start controlling her vision before she even has much of a brain back, and he uses the other hand to shove the biwa into Zenitsu's hands and just saying, "play it." Zenitsu, still dazed and injured from his previous battle, is just, "...........you want me to what" and Yushiro repeats, "play it," as in, 'You. You play instruments. Control the Infinity Fortress.'

Ah, I feel it, the visions are coming to me stronger now. While Kokushibo is assessing Muichiro, I want Kaigaku to walk in them, totally betrayed. He thought he was special, but Kokushibo will make any old swordsman into a demon. Kokushibo had no idea why Kaigaku seems so upset and remains more interested in his grandson anyway. (I would also love to see Kaigaku witnessing Nakime being promoted to Upper Moon Four, and eagerly and politely pointing out to Muzan that the fifth position is open, so could he be promoted too? And Muzan just like, "nah" and walking away. I would also love for Kyogai to witness Nakime becoming Muzan's new favorite. Nakime waits for the right moments after Muzan leaves to tell other demons that they're losers.)

Okay but also, also, early in Shinobu's fight with Douma while she's still testing poisons on him, who should stroll in but Giyuu? Giyuu who senses his presence is an annoyance there? But of course he and Shinobu fight alongside each other anyway, and Giyuu finds her attitude strange and realizes, "Kochou, are you trying to get him to eat you???" Which of course makes Shinobu more annoyed, especially since Giyuu will be having none of that, and they find some way to take Douma down together without any sacrifices.

Okay, Sanemi and Akaza might have had a blast fighting each other, in a testosterone driven high. Sanemi would thoroughly hate Akaza's guts anyway. And maybe the Infinity Fortress is the wrong time for this to unfold, but if Genya encountered Douma while he was still in his "I'm gonna become a Pillar to make my brother acknowledge me" stage, Douma would probably find it adorable and Genya would have no idea what to do with this. He'd be all frozen up even without Douma needing to use any powers on him. But, for the sake of fun and unexpected team-ups, it'd be great to have Kanao and Inosuke drop in and snap him out of it so that all three can go ham on Douma. Oh my gosh, and if Genya gets a bite, just imagine little ice Genyas. And while we're thinking of different team-ups, just because their family histories are somewhat complimentary to each other, and because Kokushibo has centuries of pent-up rage toward the man who has so much influence on the Kamado family, it'd have been fun to see Tanjiro and Muichiro team up against Kokushibo for a while too.
