Datv spoilers below good morning
I am wishing some of these personal quests and storylines had more depth and more (are there any?) consequences, it’s feeling like a lot of bark and no bite. I really hope I’m wrong. Like the moral implications I’m supposed to weigh as a player are there for show and it actually doesn’t matter in the end. Like Emmerich becoming a lich. It’s like all good and no problems. Or the Illario decision. At the end of the day, it doesn’t change anything. Harding’s quest felt like a disservice to her. I finished it and I was like is that all? This is a big deal and surely there has to be more. Maybe I’m wrong to expect some moral conflicts in this game and for it to have some serious consequences.

Okay, rank the DA games from least to most favorite and say why. :3
Oh, boy. This got long, so I’m putting it under a cut.
3. Inquisition
I hate the combat so much. Nearly ragequit within 5 minutes trying to figure out how to attack enemies. (Turns out you have to hold down a button for basic attacks.) It feels to me like they tried to combine their old combat style with something like Skyrim that’s more single-player, do-a-thing-for-each-attack style. It feels so tedious. They removed tactics almost entirely, and that was my favorite part of combat. Look, Bioware, if I wanted to play Skyrim-style combat, I’d just play Skyrim. Give me the tactics back!
I also dislike the crafting system and I’m tired of getting ambushed by bears that don’t even give me any experience while I’m trying to actually get somewhere.
Story-wise, I enjoyed it a lot, but I think it suffers from a couple major things:
trying to position Templars and mages as equally moral/equally flawed, which felt more strained to me than in DA2
retconning the elves to make them equally responsible for their own oppression
making absolutely vile characters but presenting them in-game as if they’re totally innocent
not giving as much conversational leeway to object to people or express religious opinions other than Andrastianism
needs more women as companions!
For me, the highlight of this game was the Solas/Lavellan romance because, wow, I got sucker-punched with all the conflicted feels.
2. DA2
I’m one of the very few people who likes the crunchiness of DAO’s combat and skills, so in some ways DA2 was a step down from that. On the bright side, I think they did a good job streamlining everything while still giving the player plenty of control. It felt easier to effectively combo or chain abilities. And there were more tactics options, which was super cool!
Biggest combat/mechanics complaint: give me back unlimited stealth! How am I supposed to disable all the traps when I run out of stealth in the middle of the room???
Side note: there were some weird retcons that threw me for a loop the first time I played. When did the Qunari get horns? Why is Anders talking like blood magic = possession? So that was unfortunate.
I love that the story is centered around a single city and a group of friends just living their lives and getting into shenanigans that slowly spiral into something much bigger. I love all the characters and I want them all to move into Hawke’s mansion and be a family, regardless of who you romance.
Their banter is a little more barbed than DAO’s, which is disappointing. Sometimes companions say things that are way out of line and don’t feel true to character, so I do wish that was smoothed out more, or at the very least that those comments could be constructively addressed in later banters. I know all these people are friends with Hawke, but I want them to be friends with each other, too.
Overall, very good. Just needs more friendship juice!
1. Origins
My tried and true favorite.
Yes, I enjoy all the nitpicky ability stacking and tactics choices and deciding between various character builds. Combat is like a puzzle and I love solving it. Get murdered by mabari or golems or your own ghost party? Reload and rotate that rubik’s cube to find another angle! So satisfying.
(I love the Fade quest for the same reason. Puzzle!)
The main narrative is simple but solid, and the various origins can add so much variation to how your character thinks about and reacts to things that it’s easy to replay. Plus, the companions really shine. (Except for Oghren. I hate him and he’s not invited to anything.) I get so invested in watching them grow and making them happy. Pretty sure I cried when Morrigan said how much she treasured the Warden’s friendship.
Big downsides: Orzammar and the Deep Roads. Even though it’s just a game, they feel suffocating.
Special shoutout to Origins for giving me Alistair, the best character in anything ever.

all lady companions from da games (except for Leliana 'cause that's obvious) for the ask meme ;)
hehe i love u DAOmorriganlooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - morrigan in dao wasn’t really my thing cause she was almost like… ancient looking bc the game is old and i couldn’t find good mods for her but da: i morrigan? oofdo i relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me - i can relate to how aloof she is. i am friendly to most people but if i don’t personally know them or dislike them then i won’t hide my disapproval jsjsj also i relate to her mommy issues even though i don’t have them myself and i uh don’t want someone to kill my mother!!!would i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - i really like morrigan but if i met her during her dao phase then we would certainly not be friends. like i said, i am, generally speaking, a friendly person and do not enjoy rudeness!! if i found myself around a group of people i had to socialize with then i would do my best to make friends/allies/connections BUT if i met her during her late 30s then i’d def date her. she’s more grounded and kind even so we LOVE character development

wynnelooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - to be fair, this isn’t wynne’s fault. bioware made her look like an 80 year old woman when she was only 47… do i relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me - if i lived in the dragon age universe i wouldn’t be as tame as her regarding mage issues AND i wouldn’t be pro-templar. HOWEVER, the fact that she joined the warden even when she knew she was living on borrowed time is extremely brave and a noble act, which i can relate to. also, i’d probably be the mom friend in the group as well sjsjsjsjwould i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - overall i like her as a character and i think i’d look up to her given the situation that she’s in. i’d take her advice and life lessons to heart as well so yeah, we’d be friends!shalelooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - i love my rock gfdo i relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me - i, too, hate pigeonswould i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - go big or go home, ladsDA2isabelalooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - …. yes… that’s all i have to say… just. yes.do i relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me - not to sound cheesy but i’m definitely not too comfortable with the thought of someone having romantic feelings towards me/actually caring about me jsjsj but you didn’t hear that from me!!would i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - i would be best friends w her and would only be in a relationship if she wanted to settle down, if she wouldn’t want that then we’d just stay friends (im saying this bc in da: i a romanced hawke apparently says they don’t know where she is or something? i may be mistaken but i hate that idea)!merrilllooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - i’m sorry, merrill stans, but that’s all i can give you. she looks/sounds like a young teen to me which makes me a little uncomfortable jsjsjsdo i relate to this character on a personal level?:no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me - i like merrill as a character but there’s also a lot that she did that i did not agree with, during her personal quests, i mean, so… no would i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - i’d be her mom friend and i’d punch anyone just to keep her safe and unharmed, but no, i wouldn’t date her because of what i said above!!avelinelooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - ARMS… SHE COULD BENCH PRESS ME AND I LOVE THATdo i relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me - um, first of all the way she treats isabela makes me uncomfortable and i’d never speak to another woman like that… i guess the only way i can possibly relate to her is bc she cares for her friends and i can respect that but other than that i’m proud to say HARD PASSwould i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - this is hard bc i’d def tap that at least onCE in my lifetime but like. as isabela’s best friend? NO JSJSJSJS i wouldn’t be her friend bc she sounds like she would bully ppl at school and slut shame every girl who was different than her rip also she said shemlen is an elvhen slur for human,,,, a SLUR… OK bethanylooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - bethany is like… an angel but she could like also get it you know? she’s so beautiful we love a mage queendo i relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me - besides leliana, viv and josie she is probably like one of the only da ladies that i can actually be like “oh…. that’s me”. i hate conflicts and i prefer to be kind to people whenever possible and i also care about my family a lot. also, if i was a dragon age character i’d be pro-mage and anti-templar as wellwould i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - what can i say.. she has my heart but like in a soft way and i would love to take care of her i really would.. we’d be unstoppable togetherDAIcassandralooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - dark eyes… sharp jawline.. good eyebrows…good cheekbones and muscles? yesdo i relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me - i don’t think i do? the only thing that we have in common is that we’re both romantics but other than that, no, nothingwould i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - oh we would become best friends alright, and also.. since i am a giver she would DEFINITELY be perfect for me. i’d court her to hell and back and then we’d get married, the apocalypse has been delayed and solas needs to sit tf downseralooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - i feel like this is mean but i prefer to look at sera in dragon age fanart..  she’s not ugly or unattractive, she’s beautiful and i love my daughter but she’s just not really my type, you get me?do i relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me: i am grounded, i make no rash decisions and i always try to be one step ahead which is… Not what sera does sjsjsjs i like her as a character but she is too chaotic, also, i really do not relate to how disconnected she is from her people, sowould i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - like i said above, sera is too chaotic for me. i love how silly she is but i don’t really like childishness in a relationship and while i know she loves the inquisitor, no matter how horribly written that romance was, all the fooling around would really turn me off jsjsjs but yeah as friends we would hit it off right away even if we disagreed on some topics viviennelooks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | SWEET LORD MERCY - no you don’t understand, vivienne is LITERALLY what i would want in someone… she’s got it ALLdo i relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me: vivienne is at a disadvantage with the court for being a mage. the tables could turn at any moment if she was not be able to get things under control and, even though i am not a mage jsjsjs, as a closeted lesbian who is trying to become a politician, i can see where she’s coming from and i can understand why she does what she does and says what she says. “a leash can be pulled from either end”… i’ll never forget thatwould i date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady girlfriend | neither | i don’t know - we would spoil each other rotten and everyone would WISH THEY HAD WHAT WE HAVE… THAT’S IT. also, as i’ve said before.. we are similar, personality wise, so i think we would really hit it off and understand each other and communicate rather easily.. so yeah my marriage has been scheduled

All the Qs for both your quizzies !!
Ahh oh my god okay! I might just do Saphira since it’s going to be a bit lengthy hehe :)
Tumblr media
1. Does your Inquisitor believe they are the Herald of Andraste?
Saphira might say she is the Herald to those that she feels needs hope or inspiration. However she does not truly believe that she is.
2. What is their first impression of their advisers?
Leliana seemed very intimidating and mysterious to her. Saphira just sensed a frightening vibe to her and she wouldn’t trust her for a very long time. Cullen was also a bit intimidating, but she felt more comfortable with him after speaking with him more. Josephine felt very formal and logical, but at the same time passionate and caring. Saphira didn’t understand too much of all of the diplomatic struggles to the Inquisition, but she trusted Josie to get everything figured out.
3. What is their first impression of their companions?
Like Leliana, was very intimidated by Cassandra. It probably didn’t help that she was the one interrogating Saph. She liked Solas and Varric because they were very friendly and reassuring towards her. She distrusts the Ironbull at first because of their contrasting personalities. She also distrusts Dorian due to the circumstances in which they meet, but they quickly become friends. Saphira has a soft spot for Cole because he help her deal with the envy demon and checks in with her. She wasn’t fond of Sera at first because she seemed blunt and she didn’t understand the purpose of Red Jenny’s. She liked Blackwall and thought he was trustworthy. Omg Viv seemed so powerful and important that she was amazed by her.
Overall, it takes a while for her to feel truly comfortable around those she meets since she is fairly introverted. She’s pretty distrustful to everyone she meets. Once she gets to know them and gets comfortable around them, she gets very friendly and protective of them.
4. Where does your Inquisitor spend most of their time in Haven? In Skyhold?
In Haven, Saphira loves sitting by the lake (pond?) because it’s quiet and calm. She feels she can get away from all the chaos and just relax there. It’s a bit more difficult to find a quiet place in Skyhold because there are so many visitors and soldiers everywhere. She enjoys sitting in the garden and walking along the battlements to take in the scenery.
5. Does your Inquisitor recruit the mages or Templars? (did they conscript or ally with the mages / did the rebuild or dissolve the Templar order?)
This one is actually a bit tricky since Saph was my first playthrough and I didn’t realize that I had to travel to the Hinterlands to ally with the mages lol
In canon, she trusted Cassandra and Cullen’s judgement and allied with the Templars. The whole events that unfolded were taxing on her mental health, but she trusted Ser Barris enough to rebuild the order and do better by mages.
At the same time though, I feel like she’s so compassionate that she would have wanted to help the mages in any way she could. So I’m a bit conflicted.
6. How does your character feel about becoming Inquisitor?
Incredibly overwhelmed and amazed. She feels like they are entrusting her with an enormous responsibility that she is not prepared for. Yet at the same time, she is flattered that her companions and friends think so highly of her that they support this. In any case, you can bet that she is going to be the best leader that she can be.
7.  How do the Inquisitor and Hawke get along?
Well at the point where Hawke visits Skyhold, Saph is very close friends with Varric, so she is very honored to meet Sage and a bit jealous??? lol. I’ve had this idea that they have a bit of a friendly competition as to who is Varric’s bff.
8. Who does your Inquisitor leave in charge of Orlais?
Hmm, well Saphira did not trust any of them at all. Before attending the ball Josie and Leliana counseled her on the Game and Orlesian politics. With Leliana’s help she blackmailed all of the leaders to form a public truce. I think that still leaves Celene to rule though?
9. Was your Inquisitor pleased or displeased about Morrigan joining the Inquisition?
Based on Leliana’s reaction, Saphira was a bit apprehensive about Morrigan joining. However, she was pleased to have another expert in magic joining the Inquisition. And she totally adores Kieran.
10. What would the Nightmare demon have said to your Inquisitor to rattle them the most, if anything?
I’ve thought about this one quite a bit!! I think that it would say something like “Ahh there is the innocent little Dalish elf. Do you really think your existence would have mattered if you did not have that mark? That all these people would ever care about you?” Mmm love that angst.
11. Who does your Inquisitor leave behind in the Fade?
Stroud. This decision weighs heavily on her, but she knows how much Varric cares about Sage so… She makes the call.
12. Does your Inquisitor exile the Grey Wardens or recruit them?
Recruits them. She was very upset with them all of course, but at the same time she can’t imagine what it must have been like to hear to call so suddenly. It’s not their fault that Corypheus was screwing with their minds.
13. Does your Inquisitor follow the Pilgrim’s Path in the Temple of Mythal or fight their way through?
She follows the Pilgrim’s path! She is in awe the whole mission and she didn’t want to disrespect the traditions of the temple, even though she does not completely believe in the dalish gods. Also, she trusts Solas’ judgement and encouragement to solve the puzzles.
14. Who drank from the Well of Sorrows?
Morrigan. Saphira was very concerned about any side affects the Well might have on her mind and she doesn’t want any more power. Plus Solas was acting very reluctant and weird regarding the subject and again she trusts him.
15. Who became the next Divine?
Cassandra! She became pretty good friends with her and agrees with her ideals. Saphira thought that Cassandra could bring the most positive changes and the people already trust her.
16. What would your Inquisitor do once Corypheus was defeated?
She still tries to help the people in any way she can. She wants to bring stability and hope to Thedas and the people have so much faith in her. Also, she tries to assist Leliana in tracking down Solas.
17. Does your Inquisitor spend time collecting shards?
Oh boy does she. It might be just bc I’m a completionist and make all of my babies get them, but I also think that she would want to. She is repulsed when she finds out that they are the skulls of tranquil.
18. Does your Inquisitor spend time solving the astrarium puzzles?
Yes! She is fascinated by them and if she finds valuable treasure to help the Inquisition, even better!
19. Do they take the time to hunt the dragons in Thedas or no?
Hmm yeah I guess she’ll hunt those causing immense harm to innocent people. She probably cries while doing so though because of how she loves all creatures lol.
20. What’s their favorite location to travel to, if any?
The Emerald Graves, Crestwood, and the Frostback Basin! The lush forrest and scenery reminds her of home and her family.
21. What’s their least favorite location to travel to, if any?
Probably the Western Approach and the Hissing Wastes. She hates the heat and all the sand!
22. Does your Inquisitor have a preferred mount? (horse, hart, dracolisk, etc.)
Honestly, she loves all the mounts and learning about how to care of all the different types of creatures. Harts are her favorite though because she finds them so beautiful.
23. What class specialization do they take, if any?
Saphira is a skilled hunter, so she is more familiar with the artificer specialty.
24. If Varric was to give your Inquisitor a nickname, what would it be?
Here’s a question that I have agonized over for a very long time lol. I’m still not very sure tbh, but I really think Blossom suits her. Through all the chaos and hardships she’s been through, she has grown into a brave and caring person.
25. Does your Inquisitor have a preferred party to bring with them on adventures? (i.e Cassandra, Dorian, and Varric)
Hmm well she cycles quite a bit depending on the mission. Her go-to is Cole, Solas, and Iron Bull. I call them the “I’m ok with spirit and demon shit” squad lol. She also enjoys having Varric, Sera, and Dorian in her party as well.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ASK!!!
