Can I ask what was your first impression of TGCF and if it turned out wrong or right?

My first impression of TGCF was "this goof continuously ascends to -- and gets kicked out of -- heaven, this is going to be clown town isn't it?"

And honestly I stand by that one, I think I was completely correct**

(**barring the fact that this goof will then go on to experience ever conceivable horror known to man but honestly I mostly expected it after MDZS)

#tgcf #heaven official's blessing #xie lian #hua cheng #hualian #honestly i was pretty spot on with my tonal assumptions for TGCF which is why i didn't include it in the previous post #after getting my shit rocked by MDZS i was feeling a bit more accustomed to mxtx's tendency to mix humour and tragedy #so i expected things to Go Bad sooner or later #that being said i was WILDLY unprepared for book 6 the post-banishment arc nearly k i l l e d me #straight up took me 4 calendar months to read bk6 because i'd read about 3 pages and then need to crawl away and cry for a bit #it intrigues me how with both MDZS and TGCF the backstory stuff is AGONIZING #and there can be some reckoning with that in the present #but as a general rule the present day plot is were the comedy and whimsy and romance lives & the backstory is where PAIN AND SUFFERING live #i'm not sure why i was so startled by SVSSS's vibe since it's fairly similar to the other two #the stuff i saw on my dash led me to think it was mostly humour/fluff though and i was admittedly VERY biased against isekai #very very pleasantly surprised by SVSSS i'm enjoying it alot #i'm amused and humbled by the new followers i've recently collected #i assume it's mostly svsss's fans that know A Storm Is Coming and are sitting back with popcorn to watch me suffer in real time - if so #cheers #my art

I watched Jacks stream oh my gosh...

I thought I could handle a Dsmp stream in 2024 but nope. just- that felt SO much like just a stream that would happen in like 2021. the wandering around falling into random creeper holes, chat telling jack to get philza to help him, and to find michael, the mobs interrupting and how unplanned it all was. unscripted lore my beloved forever and ever.

the way that it's like in tommy and jacks conversation- they're talking about things in character that also relates to (presumably) their feelings in real life. just gosh...

when jack and tommy said their goodbyes and jack looked back at technos house to see the sun rising- like its so perfect in a way that the incidental roleplay always was. Like in the way I know I'm reading into it but it still works and it feels like real life when something happens and you find yourself in that moment and life looks almost like a movie- everything in it's proper place for the scene- but it's all just coincidence. the sun didn't rise because a writer wrote that it would. the sun just rises and falls and the conversation just happens to end at that exact moment.

idk just- I really felt it. It captured the feeling of peak dreamsmp that I've missed so much.

I don't even have a problem with nuke ending personally I think it's perfectly fine as an ending. How I've always seen it is: Everyones been hurt by everyone and violence begets violence so the great final act is nukes that will kill everyone that have all ready been launched so it can't be taken back. Then in the prison tommy sees the early parts of the server through Dreams pov and sees the good that was there at the start and how much that has been corrupted since and he wants that simplicity again (he and dream were even friends at one point) before everything went terrible for everyone. Dream turns his back on his plan that he's been building up to for so long cause what he really wants is the same thing as tommy. for things to be simple like at the start. but it's too late- its too far gone. the nukes have already been launched there's no going back. just the hope that maybe in another world things could've been different.

(also the added context of nuke ending being an elaborate character/relationship/map reset to setup a season 2 that never happened.)

So there's my nuke ending defense lol. I know it wasn't very popular with a vast amount of people and that's okay too.

I think ending something like dsmp was never gonna be easy or satisfy everybody, with how many individual povs there are and storylines. I always expected there to be things left unfinished. (unfinished symphony ;) Even if that's pretty unsatisfying for us viewers. (there's a particular stream I really wish had happened with foolish, dream, and eret)

idk there's a post I always remember when thinking about the ending that was like: "Maybe they couldn't write a happier ending at that time in their lives." (super paraphrasing) obviously talking about techno's passing. it's a bit assumptive but the CC's have talked publicly about how much that has affected them (of course it did). With something like that I imagine giving your minecraft server/roleplay character a happy ending is the last thing on your mind.

Todays stream felt like grief and nostalgia and complicated feelings for a time that has passed but still left it's marks on you:

“are you happier?” “I'm getting there”

like, that just says it all.

I've listened to TTPD three times now, twice alone and once at a listening breakfast with friends! Thoughts:

I liked quite a lot of it, but I'm not immediately blown away.

Current favorite is "The Bolter," followed by "But Daddy I Love Him," "The Prophecy," and "Florida!!!" in no particular order.

I loved the breadth of feelings that the album addresses. You really get a sense of a whole emotional landscape.

It's in strong and compelling conversation with Taylor's whole body of work without being too excessively self-referential. "thanK you aIMee" is the notable exception.

A lot of the songs are overwritten: she uses $20 words in place of $2 words, repeats herself, and dulls the power of what works by surrounding it with a lot that doesn't. If we go by Coleridge's definition that poetry is the best words in their best order, then yeah. She definitely needs an editor.

However, none of the lyrics that people seem to be highlighting as "cringey" bother me at all. I've always loved Taylor's proclivity for small details, even strange or out-of-place ones.

I would really love to gently help Taylor out with her literary allusions. They're a long-standing struggle for her, and even going in I was a little worried for that aspect of the album based on the marketing. Could've been worse, but most of them could still stand to be a whole lot sharper.

The songs tend towards very consistent production and tempo. Whether you want to call that cohesiveness or homogeneity is a matter of opinion.

My great, secret wish for this album was that it would feature a bunch of orchestra/strings, which would've meshed great with the dark academia vibe. Clearly, I didn't get it. Oh well

#i had a weird experience listening to this album last night #in that somewhere between 'down bad' and 'fresh out the slammer' i was kind of convinced that i hated it?#i mean. i didn't but I was fully expecting to really love it. all of her albums save rep and lover have been love at first sight for me #and with rep and lover i could pinpoint very specific things i didn't care for and sort of circumvent them if that makes sense #whereas listening to ttpd i just kind of felt like i was losing my mind #it definitely won me back as i kept listening #plus i was able to articulate the particular criticisms i had #so I've definitely landed safely in 'i like it territory'#but I've yet to see anyone on my tumblr dash expressing anything like my experience #so i figured I'd share #tay tay #pontifications and creations

So. Everyone who yelled at me yesterday for making a ramble on Reynie going blank and then not resolving it, this is for you: (@lemondropletters, you have been tagged)

Also, it's in a Google Doc because it was definitely too long for a Tumblr post, and ~~I don't know how AO3 works~~

The (vague) premise is that, instead of Constance seeing Curtain's broadcast, they all get to the compound mentally sound, but once there, they split up to look for Mr. Benedict, and instead Reynie finds Curtain. This is the wrap up of what would have happened in the last episode.

#I'm sorry if it's also garbage #My brain hasn't been letting me sleep the last two days so I've just been working on this #And also I've never tried writing fic before so it is highly likely to be bad #But it was certainly a fun experience!#I was like “Oh I'll just rewrite that first post in this new format and then add the notes I had in my drafts”#And from there it somehow spiraled into a five and a half thousand word mess #But I think I learned some things!#And I'm sorry Miss Perumal isn't more help I got caught up in the emotion and I just really wanted the kids to work it out themselves #Especially since Reynie is normally the driving force for those kinds of solutions #But without him it took a lot longer than I expected #Also be warned I use a lot more em dashes then I think I'm supposed to #And I was trying the technique of mostly using the adult's formal names since the main perspective is the kids'#But the point is that I did it.
