Valicer OT3 Week, Day Five: Nontraditional Soulmates
In the home stretch of @ot3-week's OT3 Week, and we've come to a good one today -- "Nontraditional soulmates!" Which, of course, is a perfect opportunity for me to bust out the Soulmates AU I came up with for the trio! :D I did two fics for this for last year's Polyship Week, and this one is sort of the sequel to the first, "Day Four: Soulmates." (The second being "Day Six: Drabble(s)," and coming even later in the timeline.) That story dealt with Victor running into Alice in the Whitechapel marketplace and accidentally activating their soulbond, only for a slightly-panicked Alice to run, leaving Victor to report the discovery to his other soulmate Smiler alone -- here, we have Alice, having mostly gotten over her initial "SHIT IT'S MY SOULMATE I'M NOT READY" reaction, finding her way to Victor via the bond so they can actually talk -- only to hesitate right outside his door...
--
All right. Here we are. No turning back now...no matter how much I kind of want to turn back.
Alice rocked anxiously on her heels, staring at the door in front of her. It was a pretty plain, ordinary door, all things considered. Little more than a flat piece of wood with a handle attached. Oh sure, there was a bit of perfunctory decoration in the form of a couple of shallow squares roughly dug out of the front, and the usual assortment of nicks and dings acquired from daily living, but other than that – it was an uncomplicated door for an uncomplicated building. There was nothing special or interesting about it at all, really.
Beyond the fact that one Victor Van Dort, her soulmate, was behind it.
Alice swallowed, worrying her lip with her teeth. It is so bizarre to just – know he’s there, she thought. With the sort of rock-solid certainty I don’t have about anything else in my life right now. But then – he must know I’m here, right? Why doesn’t he just – open the door? Spare me the trouble of knocking? But then again, he didn’t try to chase me when I ran from him in the market...perhaps he assumes that I still want to make the first move. And since we can only share emotions, not actual thoughts, I can’t really correct him. She sighed. Bloody hell – whoever or whatever force tied our lives together, it could have given us proper telepathy instead of just its poor cousin.
“It could have,” Cheshire agreed, sitting by her feet. “But it didn’t. Time to turn thought into action and spur him forward in the process.” He gave her a trademark grin, teeth glittering in the dim light of the hallway. “Or purrhaps spur forward someone else.”
Don’t you lot even think of intruding, Alice scolded, giving him her best glare. I mean, yes, he probably knows about you and Wonderland already, and how mucked-up my mind is, but – my stomach’s already in knots about this. She ran her thumb over her wrist, tracing the faint line that only she – and Victor – knew about. I don’t need the stress of having to wrangle you or Caterpillar or Hatter or God forbid the Queen of Hearts into the bargain.
“Have it your way,” Cheshire said, fading to eyes and smile. “Though I think you’ll soon find it’s not only us who can intrude.”
And with that, he was gone – predictably before she could ask him what the hell he meant. She looked up and down the hallway, but there was no one else there – and none of the doors to the other flats in this place looked ready to open anytime soon. “Maddening,” she muttered, shaking her head. “As if I needed any help in that regard...”
But he’d had a point before he’d vanished – nothing was going to happen if she didn’t make it happen. Alice ran her fingers through her hair to neaten it a bit, brushed off her skirts, then plucked up her courage and rapped smartly on the door. A moment later, it opened –
Revealing, of all people, Nanny’s new bartender at the Mangled Mermaid.
Alice stared. The bartender – one Smiler Alton, if she recalled correctly – stared back. Then, just before it could get awkward, they snorted. “Oh – that Alice,” they said, apropos of nothing. “I didn’t think I lived in that coincidental a universe.”
“...beg pardon?” Alice said, for lack of anything better.
“What she said.”
Victor appeared in the doorway behind Smiler, looking as confused as she felt. “Uh – hello,” he greeted her, before turning his attention to his – roommate? “‘That Alice?’”
“From the Mermaid,” Smiler explained, glancing up at him. “She’s Nan’s old charge – dropped by a couple of times to talk to her. Didn’t expect to see you under these circumstances,” they added in her direction.
“When it comes down to it, neither did I,” Alice said, tilting her head. “You and Victor live together?”
“Ah – yes,” Victor said, twisting his tie. Alice found herself resisting the urge to fiddle with her own blouse’s collar as the nerves poured off him and into her. “I – I d-don’t know how much the b-bond told you, but...well...”
“Hi,” Smiler cut in, sporting their namesake expression. “I’m your other soulmate.”
...Not even “beg pardon” seemed sufficient for that. “What?” Alice blurted. “You – but – what?”
“Yes, ah, sometimes – sometimes you can get two,” Victor said, shooting Smiler a look before favoring her with an awkward smile. “It’s, um, k-kind of a long story...how about you come in?”
“There’s tea and biscuits in it for you,” Smiler promised, stepping out of the way.
No, I want you to explain to me what the hell you mean by “sometimes you can get two” right now – but before Alice could put words to tongue, she caught sight of Smiler’s arm, resting against the door frame. Specifically, their wrist, leaned up against the wood above their head. Even more specifically, the thin scar running along said wrist –
That looked very, very much like the kind one might get if they’d taken a blunt spoon to their flesh in a desperate attempt to end their life. Alice swallowed and nodded. “I – I think I could use some tea right now, thank you.”

Mending What's been Broken
Summary: Edward and Bella have a different conversation after New Moon than in canon.
Notes: Constructive criticism and suggestions are welcome! :) Hope you all enjoy the story and let me know what you think! Also when I started writing this was only a few hours after the second chapter which is super cool I’ve never written this fast before! Edit: It’s been like 3 months since I’ve touched this oops. I was originally intending for the Cullens and Bella to talk this chapter but I’m going to be doing the discussion or big conversation next chapter!
Characters: Edward Cullen, Alice Cullen, Carlisle Cullen, (mentioned) Esme Cullen, (mentioned) Rosalie Hale, Jasper Hale, Emmett Cullen, Charlie Swan, and Bella Swan
Warnings: Talks lighting about how Bella felt when Edward Left her.
…
Bella's POV
She caught me. I was dreading this. I hate to say that. I don’t want to dread a moment with my best friend. But I don't know what to think. She left me, they all did. Did they leave willingly? Did they hate the idea but did it to protect me? Hmm I guess I do need answers. And I do miss them…especially Alice. I don’t know what to think. I ran my hand through my hair, I felt stressed over the prospect of this conversation. Yes I could get more answers, different points of views and perspectives on this…situation. But I’m scared. I’m not scared of Alice or the Cullen’s I never really have been but it’s what the conversations entails that I’m scared of. She tapped my shoulder, I was deep in thought. I hadn't realized I seemed to have walked away, and that I seemed like I was ignoring her.
I apologized, “I’m sorry! I was thinking and was deep in thought and didn’t notice.”
“It’s okay Bella.” She said, patiently. “Bella…can I talk to you?” Alice asked. And for once in all the time I had known her she was very patient. Perhaps she saw that she would need patience with me. She was always bouncing with anticipation and excitement.
I sucked in my breath and said, “Yeah, sure. What about?”
She sighed, “My family was wondering if after school you would meet us. We need to talk.” She had this look in her eye of desperation and hope. I think…she was desperate for me to come, for us to talk. But hopeful that I would. “Please, Bella?” She almost begged.
She sighed again and took a deep breath, “We won’t force you into anything but please think about this.” She paused, biting her lip but then continued, “If you change your mind or something like that come around to our house after school.” She started to walk off. But then I I blurted out, “You know… I never said no.” I could not believe I just said that. I covered my mouth for a split second but then lowered it. She turned back and smiled at me kindly, “I know but I can see the future, I have seen the future and the fact that you aren’t hard to read.” She gave me one last look, the bell rang and skipped to her next class. I stood there for a few more seconds before other students started to pour into the hallway. I headed to my next class. English. He was in that class with me. I wonder if he will be there? Or is he out hunting or with his family? What will I do? The other day I felt like I knew what to do or sort of knew how to react. I knew what had to be done but now as it all is happening I don’t know what I should do. Or how to react or how to feel. I wish this was easier, I wish I had all the answers. Maybe I should go. At least I’d get closure.
Once I arrived I realized he wasn’t there. I felt almost relieved he wasn’t there. Maybe it was the fact that I was scared. Or the fact I didn’t know how to act around him anymore. He told me he’d give me some space but how long will that be? How long do I need? What do I need to do? I felt frustrated because I don’t know what to do anymore. Why can’t this be easier? I yelled in my head. I stepped into the classroom and took a deep breath. It’ll be fine, just breathe. I chanted to myself over and over again hoping it’s true. Because I need it to be.
It was hard to pay attention but I managed. Luckily Mr.Berty didn’t call on me, I was very grateful for that. Once the bell rang I headed out of the classroom as fast as I could. I did trip but managed to catch myself for once.
…
Lunch finally arrived. I sat with Angela, Eric, Mike, Jessica, Tyler, and Lauren. As usual Jessica and Lauren were chatting about the latest gossip floating around the school. I had some small talk with Angela which was pleasant and nice as usual. She was a good friend, perhaps we should hang out more. After a few minutes she turned her attention to Eric and I played with my food. I wasn’t really interested in eating today. I had no appetite. I scooted it away. Mike started to blabber to me about hanging out this weekend. I politely declined which caught Jessica’s attention. “What are you doing this weekend Bella? Hanging out with the Cullen’s now that they’re back?”
I froze. I wasn't exactly sure what to say. I didn’t exactly say no but I was still undecided. I took a deep breath and uttered the words, “Yes, yes I am.”
She looked confused, her smile faded and she said, “Why?”
“Because I wanted to…?” It sounded like a question but I was just as confused as she was. What was she getting at? Lauren and Mike didn’t look very pleased as Jessica did either.
“W-well I thought since you and Cullen weren’t a thing I’d shoot my shot.”
“What?” All I could think was, is she serious? Like is she that shallow and uncompassionate for her friends?
Laruren looked me up and down like she was disgusted or something like that. And said, “I mean it’s not like you two are still even dating right?”
They’re both the most insensitive people I have ever met. I felt like I was gonna snap at any moment. I was furious. Who do they think they are, seriously? All I saw was red. I was so ready to slap them. Usually I tried to stay calm and collected but not today. I was ready to yell at them and tell them how insensitive and disrespectful that is to say to someone but suddenly I felt a cool hand on my shoulder. I turned around and met Edward’s gaze. What was he doing here? I thought he was at home?
“Hey love, I was wondering if you would like to come sit with me and my siblings?”
I stared at him shocked, “Well?” he asked.
“Umm sure why not.” I think he wants to help me but I also think he doesn’t want Jessica or Lauren trying to hit on him or ask him out…again.
As we moved away from Jessica and Lauren I asked, “What are you doing?” I whispered yelled. I couldn’t help but ask that since yes I’m probably right but still I can’t help but feel confused by all of this.
“Getting you out of there before you did something you'd regret. “ He then continued, “I’m not trying to upset you but we can’t have you getting expelled or anything.” He joked.
“Haha.” I said sarcastically. He brushed my shoulder as he led me to our usual spot. “But next time I’m going to stand up for myself I can’t keep letting them get under my skin. I'm so sick of it.”
“I know but for now let's not worry about them, okay?” I nodded agreeing I’d rather not anyways Charlie probably ground me even more than he already has. Wait, how am I supposed to go talk to the Cullens tonight if I’m not supposed to go out unless it’s for school or work?
I sat down next to Alice. I wasn't sure just how comfortable I was with sitting next to Edward yet. I didn’t want to make things awkward with him or anyone or myself for that matter. But what I do know is I think he’d understand, I think they all might.
Surprisingly Emmett was the first to speak up, “So little sis have you decided yet?” He joked. Rosalie elbowed him in the stomach.
I couldn’t help but laugh with him. He always knew how to relieve the tension.
“Go on Bella, take your time.” She said patiently. I was surprised Rosalie was being nice to me? I couldn’t help but feel a bit shocked. Jasper smiled at my shocked expression.
“Go on Darlin’ you can do it we won’t be mad either way don't worry.” He gave me a reassuring smile and sent me a wave of calmness.
I thought about what Emmett said. It was a good question. What was I gonna do? I mean I had already thought it would be a good idea to get some answers and different perspectives so should I say yes? I think I’ll just have to bite the bullet.
“My answer is yes.”
“Really?” Alice questioned. She looked ecstatic. I gave her a small smile.
“But I need you all to answer some of my questions, alright?”
“Of course.” Edward said, softly.
“I’m going to wait to ask until tonight and I’ll let you all explain your side first okay?” They nodded. “But I want you all to promise to be quiet and listen to what I have to say carefully. Because what I’m going to talk about isn’t easy.”
“We understand, don’t worry Bella.” Alice kindly said.
“Thank You.” I appreciated that they were actually listening and being patient with me.
“And one more thing?”
“Yes?” They all asked.
“What are we going to do about Charlie?”
“Esme will talk to him, don’t worry Bella.” Alice said, reassuringly. I sighed thankful that she saw my question coming. I didn’t want to make Charlie more angry than he already was.
The bell rang and I stated, “I’ll see you all tonight.” They all said their goodbyes and I walked carefully to my next period hoping I wouldn’t trip this time.

All is Bliss
Chapter 19
Cw: childbirth, dark magic, death in childbirth, stillbirth, blood, murder
Gif by:@criston-cole
Taglist:@mercedesdecorazon @darylandbethfanforever9 @ewanmitchellcrumbs @sweethoneyblossom1
The moment Alicent cut her own palm and stained the feet of the Crone with her blood, Viserys’ heart stops and Alys begins a premature labor.
The queen tries to call for attendants and the maester for help, but something has her frozen to her spot as the Whore of Harrenhal braces herself at the foot of the Mother’s altar and calls for the Gods in the old Andal Tongue.
Hours pass or minutes, she cannot tell as tone feels as still as the statues encircling them.
Alys only grunts, as if used to the pain Alicent never got used to.
Aegon’s birth had been difficult, but quick, within the hour he had been expelled from her. Helaena’s had been easy compared to her brother’s even if she took half a day to come. Aemond’s had been long and painful, longer than his sister because of the scant ten moons between them.
And yet it did not compare to Daeron, Daeron who is her least troubled child and yet he nearly killed her as he came drenched in her blood and ruining her womb in his wake.
He had almost died with his cord around his little neck, the maester had even suggested they cut him out even when she was still alive.
It had been Rhaenyra who had stopped them.
Who ordered them to save her and let the baby die if they must.
She has three children already, they do not need another brother, they need their mother.
Somehow knowing she owed her for saving her made it all worse.
Alys Rivers births something that slithers in the shadows, like a snake or a worm.
Somehow, the Queen knows it has slithered into Rhaenyra’s rooms, into her womanhood and settled inside her as it consumed the life and soul of innocent babe within her.
When it ends both women are panting, cold with sweat and yet there is nothing except the cut on her palm to prove it was all real.
“They give life and take it; I am but their humble servant. With life comes death and with death comes life.” Alys says as she wipes away her sweat with her handkerchief. “If it makes you feel better, your grace, Princess Visenya would not have lived and her mother would have joined her in two years, you only hastened their reunion.”
Alicent pretends none of this happened as he kisses Rhaenyra’s cheek before they depart.
Had she lived, they would have been forced to kill her.
She never wanted this, but she needed to do it.
It is better this way.
A mercy, even.
Aemma was home a week when her grandmother came.
She had stayed behind for some matters regarding a potential betrothal between Joffrey and Lord Royce’s daughter, Rhea.
They had gotten along, with Joff wanting to write to little Rhea if mother permits it.
Aemma doesn’t know who hates it more, Lord Royce or Daemon.
This they laugh about when mother is abed because Gerardys fears all this stress has brought upon some minor pains for her.
When Meleys roars as she comes fast as fire. Mother disregards the twinges in her lower back to receive her.
If she is flying like that it means grandfather has died.
“I come will ill news.” The Red Queen said as she comes dressed in her bronze and steel armor with an old cloak about her shoulders.
“Princess Rhaenys, might we hope for news of Lord Corlys’ recovery?” mother asked demanding they attend to her at once and call for a meeting.
“The king is dead. I grieve your loss with you, Rhaenyra. My cousin was a good man.” Princess Rhaenys says as they wait for the lords to gather.
“When did he die?” mother asked heartbroken, looking paler as another contraction comes harder than before by the looks of it.
“A week or less, his death was hidden but the smell gave it away within the day.” Princess Rhaenys answered solemnly and knowing the words she says next will be the final nail on the coffin.
“There is more. Aegon has been crowned as his successor.”
Mother faints dead away and that is when they see the blood coming from her.
When the maesters tell her the baby is dead inside her, mother locks herself in the birthing room ignoring those who only wished to help her.
She rages, curses everyone including the dead babe inside her.
Syrax roars in an echo of her rider’s anguish as it drags on.
Sea Dragon Tower shakes with their screams and then it all stops.
They know what’s happened and yet no one speaks.
When Daemon breaks open the door, mother is dead with a monstrous thing filled with maggots in her arms.
“They killed her, they killed her and the babe. First Laena and now Rhaenyra.” Daemon says as he takes out his anger and grief on the nearest thing he could find. “The witch, they Rivers woman. I should have fucking known she was a shadow binder.”
Princess Rhaenyra was three and thirty when she died.
Syrax breaks out of her chains after the death of the woman who’s cradle, she once shared.
A week after her mother’s funeral, Aemma is crowned before the lords and smallfolk.
She wears white linen with no adornments whatsoever and no shoes to symbolize humility and purity of the soul as she walks from Dragonstone to the town and past it until they reach the black sand shores Daenys the Dreamer once kissed upon arrival.
She is cloaked in Targaryen colors as if she were a bride by her Lord Hand, the Sea Snake, while the Highest Septon in the Crownlands blesses her and anoints her with holy oils and denounces the High Septon for his corruption in the same breath.
He does not crown her, no, that honor belongs to the Queen Who Never Was and only her.
The crown is blessed as Helaena, flanked by Baela and Rhaena, carries a black velvet cushion where Queen Rhaenys’ Valyrian steel and ruby diadem rests.
“Long live Aemma the Great.” Her grandmother whispers as she crowns her with the Crown her father and Queen Alysanne had chosen for her.
Aemma Velaryon was seven and ten years old when she was crowned Aemma Targaryen, first of her name.
Or as history will know her: Aemma the Great.
Anyways here's a poll cuz I'm stuck on the next bit.

Hi, I have an idea for Chishiya if it's okay! He have something going on with Kuina's friend, and after she didn't came back from a game everyone thought that she died, but she actually just left (she didn't want to become too attached to Chishiya maybe?) and 1 month later the militants found her and Chishiya is rather cold toward her because she left him without saying anything. Happy ending if possible, please
Thanks for requesting, here you go. Enjoy! 🥰
Home | Shuntaro Chishiya
{Alice In Borderland Masterlist}
Character(s): Chishiya (ft. Kuina, Niragi)
Summary: You run away from the beach, but soon were found by the militants again. Chishiya, your closest companion, is mad when you return for not saying anything.
Warning: mention of sexual harassment, swearing, grieving, heavy angst
Word Count: 4.8k
*reader is female
Author’s Note: I’m sorry if the ending is a bit cliché, but I really enjoyed writing this one!
“I’m so sick of this shit Kuina. She’s gone. What the hell do we do now?”
Chishiya and Kuina sat on the top roof of The Beach. Their legs were dangling over the edge, above the groups of people who sang their hearts out over the loud music. They couldn’t be down there themselves, not that night.
“It’s so unfair,” Chishiya grumbled, rubbing his stained eyes with his hands. “I hate how everyone just moves on like nothing happened.”
Kuina sniffled, trying to control her runny nose as she listened to Chishiya’s pained words. “Look Chish, it was going to happen to one of us three at some point, it just happened to be Y/N.” Kuina tried to keep her voice stable, but the occasional voice crack gave away her sadness.
“Yes I know, but it still hurts so fucking bad.”
You hadn’t returned from your game. You hadn’t returned back to Chishiya and Kuina. You hadn’t returned home.
*******
“Oi Y/N! Slow the hell down!”
You heard Kuina yell out to you from down the hall. You laughed at her desperate attempt to catch up while Chishiya walked at his own pace watching you guys.
“Why are we suddenly having a race?! We have all day to get down to the pool!” Kuina called out. You stopped in your tracks and turned around to face her. “I want to get down there before the sun comes out and everyone wakes up! Don’t you want to have it just for us three for a while?”
“I suppose so,” Kuina breathed out heavily.
Chishiya’s lips pulled up into a smile as he watched you too bicker. “Oi you two. Be quiet. People in these halls are still sleeping,” he said.
Kuina turned to Chishiya and pulled a mocking bored face towards him. “Well you’re fun this morning,” she muttered in a sarcastic tone.
All three of you made your way to the pool on the bottom floor of The Beach, tripping and shoving each other playfully while giggling. You hardly ever did this together, because Chishiya always slept until noon, so you were excited about having the pool to yourselves before the sun came up.
When you reached outside, your chatters and the sound of your bare feet on the pavement broke the silence of the night. You hoped that Hatter kept the windows closed to his suite because you knew if you woke him up he would come down and beat your asses for being awake so early.
You looked over towards the pool that was still lit up with underwater neon blue lights from the night before. You’d think that they would shut all the lights off at least to save a bit of electricity, but apparently not.
Kuina had thrown her towel down carelessly on a nearby deck chair and was now chasing after Chishiya, who powered his short legs to try and escape her.
“Chishiya you’re going in the pool! You can’t chicken out forever!” she yelled as she caught up to him and wrapped her strong arms around his waist.
You could tell the years of martial arts training paid off for Kuina as she lifted Chishiya into her arms like he weighed nothing. “Bitch, put me down! I don’t want to go in the pool! Why is that such a crime!?”
You doubled over in laughter as Kuina held the cat-like blonde in her arms, him squirming more violently as she got to the side of the pool.
“Goodbye!” she yelled and dropped him into the pool. His screaming cut off as he was submerged into the water. You walked over and placed your stuff down, listening to Kuina and Chishiya bickering in the background.
It was a shame that you were planning on walking out on these guys. But in a world like this, the bad moments really outweighed the good ones.
“Alright you’re next!” you heard behind you, making you snap out of your short daze.
“Wait, no!” you bellowed as Kuina repeated the same thing she did with Chishiya. This time, it was his turn to laugh at you.
“Jesus christ woman. The fuck got you so lively this morning?” you laughed at Kuina, who gracefully dived into the pool to tease you two.
You felt Chishiya tuck his chin on your shoulder gently, taking you by surprise. “I guess we got to act as happy as we can now. Our five day visa ends tonight.” Chishiya mumbled to you two.
The air around the three of you suddenly became stiff at the mention of the games. You lifted your hand and placed it on Chishiya’s damp hair. “It’s alright, it was a fun and relaxing five days while it lasted,” you said cheerfully.
“Don’t say that like as if you’re going to die,” Chishiya scolded you. “You won’t die, none of us three will.” He was trying to reassure himself that he would come back from his game with you all happy and healthy waiting in the lobby for him. He hoped for that exact reality every time he had to leave you to restore his visa. He panicked even when you were ten minutes later than usual. It was a constant battle with anxiety when it came to caring for you in a world like this.
But unfortunately, while Chishiya was willing to fight against the growing anxiety that came with loving you, you didn’t want anything to do with it.
You and Chishiya have been as tight as two peas in a pod since Kuina introduced you. Kuina and you happened to meet at a diamonds game that was further in the centre of the city which was where you appeared in the game. She was nice enough to take you back to The Beach, because she thought that your intelligence and gentle personality would be useful.
But the plan of using you for Kuina and Chishiya’s own personal gain went out the window when both of them built a strong connection with you. They tried so hard to stop it, but in the end, they decided to make you an addition to their little manipulative games with the others. A mysterious duo became a peculiar trio.
That’s when Chishiya began to notice other things he felt.
He began feeling an irrational attachment to you, always wanting to be around you and always wanting to make sure that you were safe. You began noticing his additional little quirks as well, as soon you both fell for each other, without the other knowing of course.
Kuina obviously knew, as she was incredibly observant. She always kept her mouth shut though, wanting to see the drama play out in front of her. It was entertaining at times.
“You two are cute,” she gushed at you and Chishiya, holding a cheeky smile on her face.
Chishiya tucked his face into your neck to hide his blush, but it only made your heart skip a beat. “Shut up,” he mumbled into your skin.
You sighed heavily as he kept his place there, snaking his arms around your waist. This was honestly normal. The closer you’ve gotten with Chishiya, the less shy he’s been to convey physical affection. You loved and hated it at the same time, because you knew the more he made your heart race, the harder it would be to leave him.
At times you thought you’d rather deal with his cold and untrustworthy personality, like how he was when he first met you. It was easier to dislike him then, but now that his real personality has shown through, you realized how good of a person he actually seemed to be.
Chishiya never became close to someone, because he knew it would be hard to pull away when he needed to use them for his own survival. So he’s just always chosen to keep everyone at a distance.
You on the other hand, you hadn’t fallen down the deep whole of caring fully for someone in this world, but you knew you were about to stumble off the edge.
While Kuina and Chishiya waited to renew their visas, you waited to run away from the stress of waiting for your friend’s potential deaths.
******
You, Kuina and Chishiya trudged down the steps that led to the lobby. Hatter had called everyone to meet there a few minutes ago to prepare for the games. Hearing the familiar bell ring throughout the so-called paradise made your heart weaken. It was calling you to your end, every single time.
The trio of you took your usual place towards the back of the lobby, leaning against the cement walls and looking over everyone’s heads. How weird it felt, that by the time you gathered here next, the number of people would reduce by a couple dozen. It made your stomach sink in remorse. You truly were nothing more than soldiers fighting a war that wasn’t your own.
You looked down at your own feet, beginning to feel guilty about your plan of running away. The people you would abandon, the friends who would miss you. And even they can’t come find you, but you knew it was for the best. For both you and them.
You felt something tickle your hand. You glanced your eyes down to see that it was Chishiya, trying to sneak his hand into yours as Hatter began his booming speech across the crowd. You looked up to the blonde’s face, but he was focused on Hatter. You smiled sadly and accepted his hand into yours, earning a soft squeeze from him.
Kuina placed her head on your shoulder, leaning closer towards you. It was as if they knew, and they were trying to get you to change your mind. You felt tears building up in your eyes, but quickly wiped them away with your hoodie sleeve before anyone noticed.
Damn. You were never going to forget them.
******
Chishiya sat in the leather lounge in the lobby. He had just arrived back from his spades game. Wasn’t too difficult, for him at least.
Only now he was stressing inside, leg bouncing up and down on the carpet quickly. He knew you wouldn’t return for a good while, but yet he always was worried about you. No matter the situation.
Niragi didn’t help the situation. He strolled over earlier with a few of his militant mates and roughed Chishiya up for a bit. He honestly wasn’t in the mood for their antics, so he didn’t fight back much. They eventually got bored and walked away.
There hardly was anyone in the lobby, it was strangely quiet.
Chishiya looked towards the entrance to the lobby where a small group of people just walked in from. He recognized them as the group Kuina was placed with, so he stood up from his seat and quickly made his way over.
He managed to spot Kuina walking by herself at the back of the group. Chishiya let out a relieved sigh and strolled up to her. “Thank god you’re okay,” he said, giving her a short hug. “You too,” she replied.
They walked back over to where Chishiya was sitting beforehand and sat down. “Do you know who Y/N went with?” Kuina asked.
“No idea, I had to leave with my group before hers,” he answered.
They both sat in silence for a while, hearts squeezing in on themselves from tension.
As group after group piled into the lobby and moved to go to the back pool to celebrate their wins. While their hearts and minds were overflowing in joy of surviving, Chishiya’s and Kuina’s slowly became heavier and heavier with grief.
One of the last groups finally came back, being a few hours later than everyone else. Chishiya searched the small crowd for your familiar face, but didn’t see it.
“Kuina,” he started with a tense voice. “Don’t say it,” she immediately cut him off. “Don’t say anything Chish. She’s fine, I know it.”
That became harder and harder to believe the later into the night it got. Soon enough, no one was left in the halls and the lobby, either gone to bed or stayed out in the pool area.
Chishiya didn’t know what to say. He couldn’t feel anything. His body was tired from the constant tensing, the constant anxiety.
He stood up abruptly and looked towards Kuina, who had her head in her hands. He gave her a sad smile, and reached his hand out to help her up. “Come on, let’s go to the roof like old times,” he smiled, fighting the tears building up in his eyes.
*********
When they reached the top of the building after climbing many annoying flights of steps, Chishiya tilted his head back to feel the wind blow around his head. He opened his eyes and saw the galaxy of stars above him. ‘So weird,’ he thought to himself. ‘In a horrible place like this, such beautiful things can still exist.’
Kuina and Chishiya sat on the edge of the roof, feet dangling off the edge. Complete silence took over them. Neither of them knew what to say.
Kuina broke her gaze off the staggering height of the drop below them and glanced at Chishiya. He was staring straight ahead of him, hoodie covering his face so she couldn’t see what he was looking at.
“Chish, are you okay?” Kuina asked quietly, leaning forward to try and see his face. It felt strange to her, having Chishiya be completely silent for a change. Usually he would be making a smartass comment or a teasing joke towards her or Y/N. It was like the happiness in him had drained out.
He didn’t answer for a short moment, but then he turned his head to look at Kuina in the eyes. Kuina was taken back.
Chishiya had pools of tears cascading down his pale face, mixing with the sweat that he still endured from the game. He let out no sobs and no cries. Just dry, empty tears running down his cheeks like doves flying down the edge of a cliff.
“No, I’m not okay,” he muttered to her. “This fucking sucks.”
*******
It had been a few weeks since your death, not that there was a huge difference at The Beach from your disappearance. Everyone carried on like normal, everyone except Kuina and Chishiya.
They became secluded, more than usual. Kuina spent most of her time in the hotel’s gym, trying to distract herself from everything that happened. She wanted to get stronger so she could win games, she knew that’s what you would have wanted.
Chishiya however, he wasn’t taking your death well at all. Chishiya lost his fire, his headstrong attitude and snappy remarks. He kind of disappeared himself, but only his body stayed.
He felt stupid at times. What would he have expected? Of course you died, knowing his luck. He began irrationally thinking, believing that the world took you away because he didn’t deserve someone as warm-hearted as you. He felt cheated almost. It was like the universe had you dangling on a string in front of him, and when he finally had the courage to reach towards you, it yanked you away out of his view.
When he was having particular hard days, he would lie on his bed in his room for hours, not bothering to get up for food or the bathroom. He felt numb inside, he honestly thought nothing would be able to hurt him anymore, because he’s endured the worst of his emotions.
The mirror in his room was smashed, due to his own doing. He broke it a few days after the incident, screaming into the stuffy air of his room and throwing one of his makeshift knives at it. He watched in pain as it crackled and crumbled under the impact, seeing his own reflection fall into a million pieces, much like how he was feeling at that moment.
He had never experienced this kind of hurt before. He always thought other people were being dramatic when they broke down crying after hearing their significant other or friend didn’t make it back to The Beach. He thought that it should’ve been expected, that they shouldn’t be surprised that it happened. But he guessed you never know what another person is feeling unless you experience it yourself.
But god, does he wish he didn’t, because it hurt more than a thousand knives to his cold, stone heart.
**********
One day, Chishiya was standing on the edge of a balcony that looked over the entrance to The Beach. He enjoyed standing up there because he loved the spectacular view of the ocean. It reminded him of his real home, when he used to ride his bike down to the beach with his friends and swim in the water for hours. He missed life when it was so easy for him.
The breeze was cool on his skin, giving him goosebumps. It felt refreshing and somewhat free, a small taste of bliss for him. His eyes were shut as he listened to the crows screech in the distance and the ocean waves hit the shore. The sound of nature rang in his ears, making his endorphins swirl in his brain.
It was a good break every now and then from the usual melancholy emotions that swarmed around him, keeping his happiness locked down in chains. While he was on that balcony, actually breathing fully and normally for once, his demons decided to let loose of the chains that held his sweet happiness trapped.
Chishiya opened his dark eyes and glanced downwards towards the bottom level and saw something that caught his eye.
A group of three militants seemed to have a young woman in their grasp, one of them being Niragi himself. Chishiya watched as they tried hard to hold the smaller person at bay, as she was thrashing around trying to escape.
He frowned, confusion painting across his face. That girl, she looked oddly familiar.
Niragi told the militants to bring her around the side of the building, where a small alley was located beside the entrance. Chishiya knew that’s where the militants dragged people to kill them off, they were planning on killing her.
Chishiya wondered what she did that was so bad. Hatter hardly ever gave the order to kill someone, unless the situation was betrayal or anything worse.
He moved himself along the balcony towards where the commotion below him was occurring. He wanted to hear what they were saying, because who knows what shit Niragi gets up to without Hatter knowing. It seemed a little too suspicious to be dragging someone to their death in broad daylight, especially where everyone could see.
Chishiya heard slight fragments of what they were yelling: “You thought- … run away?!” Niragi screamed in his psychotic voice. “Let go of-...! …could have just left me there!”
Chishiya felt his heart drop. That voice, it was all too familiar. How could he have forgotten what your voice sounded like.
He lifted his head and stared forward in shock. That couldn’t be right, you’ve been dead for weeks!
He thought for a second, trying to come to a possible conclusion with the horrific yells in the background of his mind. How is it possible you could still be alive?
That couldn’t be you, it just couldn’t be. Chishiya shook his head and chuckled. “The fuck am I thinking? Great, now I’m hallucinating. No one told me that was another stage of grief.”
He turned his body to walk back inside to look for Kuina, until he heard the young woman getting attacked yell again, this time, clear as day.
“Chishiya! Kuina!”
That was it. That was definitely you.
Chishiya lifted his legs and began sprinting towards the staircase inside. There was no doubt in his mind that that wasn’t you. The way you said his name was too real to not be you.
He tripped and stumbled down the stairs, almost falling flat on his face on one flight. He had to get there before you were dead, for real this time.
As he pushed his entire body weight against the entrance doors to the hotel, he pulled a small knife out his white hoodie pocket. He had made it out of glass from his broken mirror, considering that Hatter wouldn’t allow him to have his own weapons.
Your screams were much more prominent now, more desperate sounding and more fearful. The sound pierced through Chishiya as he made his way quickly around the side of the hotel.
There you were, being pinned against the wall by two militants while Niragi held the barrel of his rifle against your chest, right over your heart.
Chishiya yelled out, which probably wasn’t the best idea considering his current situation. It was three tall men with guns against a small, frail man with a makeshift knife.
“Chishiya! The fuck you doing here?” Niragi asked with a cheeky smirk on his face. God, Chishiya wanted to punch him so bad.
“Let her go Niragi, you don’t want this to get ugly do you?” Chishiya threatened, holding his glass knife out.
Niragi laughed along with the other two militants. You still struggled against their grip, seemingly more calm with Chishiya distracting them.
“How cute ‘ey? Little blonde twink coming to save the love of his life, how sweet of you.” Niragi pressed, pushing his rifle harder against you just to push Chishiya’s buttons.
“If you haven’t noticed Chishiya, she ran away! She never died like you thought she did! She ran away from The Beach, she ran away from you!”
His words were like bullets in Chishiya’s chest. He felt belittled and mocked, he hated it.
“Shut up! She wouldn’t do that!” he yelled frustratingly.
“Oh really?! She wouldn’t?! Then explain why we managed to find her strolling the streets of Tokyo! Not a scratch on her, and she seemed smart enough to run away when she saw us.”
Chishiya’s scowl dropped on his face. He looked at you to see if you would deny it, but you had stopped struggling against the two men and hung your head low, not looking into his eyes.
He shook off the hurt he felt from this fact. He had to focus on getting you away from Niragi before he took time to think about other things.
“Niragi please. Just let go of her, I promise I’ll make it up to you,” Chishiya begged. He felt small, never has he ever begged for something in his life.
“Hmm? How though? I was just about to have some fun with her before I killed her off. Why should I give that up just because you want me to,” Niragi spat at him. Your eyes widened in fear and you thrashed around in the grip that the militants had on you, panicking from Niragi’s threat.
Chishiya thought for a second. He would honestly give anything to bring you over to him. “My cards. You can take credit for every card that I collect for a couple of months. If Hatter or Aguni asks, just say I’m slacking. I’ll take any punishment they throw my way.”
You saw Niragi consider it before lowering his weapon off of your torso. You breathed out heavily in relief.
“Fine, but don’t expect me to do this again. You can’t bribe me with everything you sneaky fuck.” Niragi growled. The two militants let go of you and followed him out of the alleyway and into the entrance of The Beach.
You leant against the wall, staring at Chishiya as he stared down at the ground below him. The air between you two was tense. You could tell he was mad, Chishiya was always silent when he was incredibly angry.
“Chish, I-”
“Don’t talk to me. Just come.”
Don’t get me wrong, he couldn’t have been happier to see that you were alive and well. But the betrayal he felt from the fact that you ran away from him greatly outweighed his happiness.
He walked briskly ahead of you, you didn’t dare walk next to him or too close to him. He was scaring you a bit, and you wanted nothing but to sprint to your own room and hide from the rest of the world.
You were embarrassed and also frustrated you were caught. Trust Niragi and his cocky ass to find you.
Chishiya stopped in front of his own room, opened the door and gestured for you to walk inside. You hesitated before slowly making your way through the door. You hated how tense it was, it was the complete opposite of what you usually felt when you were around Chishiya.
You sat down on his bed, sitting in an awkward position and looked towards Chishiya. It was complete silence as he was frozen at the door, back towards you and holding the door handle harshly.
“What the fuck Y/N?” he mumbled. It was almost inaudible, but you could hear pain in his words, which made you immediately feel guilty.
“What the fuck was that? You ran away!?” he turned and yelled at you, tears building up in his eyes.
You flinched as his loud voice. You had never heard him yell in anger before, usually he kept his calm. You looked down to the ground, feeling your own eyes fill with hot tears. You felt like you were back in high school with your parents screaming at you for running away from home.
“I THOUGHT YOU DIED!” he shouted louder, “DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH PAIN YOU PUT KUINA THROUGH?! HOW MUCH YOU PUT ME THROUGH?!”
You couldn’t breathe. Pain and suffering dripped off his words like rain on a roof, coming together and creating an atmosphere that held air that was unbreathable. You suffocated on the oxygen, making you choke and cause tears to begin running down your cheeks.
“Why!?” he cried. “Why did you run!? There was no reason, me and Kuina could have protected you if you were too scared! Why did you think that running away was the only option!?” Chishiya stumbled closer to you, almost tripping over his own feet.
You flinched heavily as he placed his cold hands on your shoulders roughly. They were shaking from trying to hold your sobs in.
“WHY DID YOU LEAVE-” “Chishiya!” you interrupted him by snapping your head up to meet your eyes with his. His face dropped as he saw the sadness behind yours, replacing the wonderful and cheerful happiness that once swam in your eyes like dolphins in a sea.
“I l-love you,” you mumbled out between your shaky breaths. “That was the problem Chish. I-I’m in love with you and it hurt too fucking bad to know that you could disappear out of my reach at any moment. I ran because I didn’t want to watch you and Kuina die!”
Chishiya’s own hands shook violently against your shoulders. He gazed into your eyes which were red and puffy from your tears. They were shining more now than they had ever before.
“You don’t have to leave Y/N,” he whispered, still trying to control his own breathing. “I want you here, next to me. Not out there, because when you’re out there, I can’t be with you.”
You nodded and smiled sadly. Chishiya pulled his hand from your shoulder and cradled your face gently. He swiped his thumb over your cheek to get rid of the tears there. “I love you too, but I can’t be without you.”
A grin crept onto your face as you looked into his eyes. You felt safer than ever in his arms, why did you think of ever leaving?
Chishiya wiped his own tears with his hoodie sleeve and put on a happier smile. “You want to know how pathetic I am without you?” he giggled and held your hands in his.
“I almost threw myself off the top of the hotel the night you didn’t come back. Kuina had to tackle me to the ground to keep me away from the edge.” he laughed at himself.
You chuckled along with him. “Imagine if you did! What a shocker it would’ve been if I came back and Kuina saw me alive after you killed yourself because you thought I was gone!”
You both sat on Chishiya’s bed and laughed at each other. You had to do it, humour is best in times of stress and anxiety.
*********
You opened your eyes slowly, only to be met with the blinding light of the sun seeping through the blinds. You hissed and turned your head the other way.
Chishiya chucked at your reaction, making his chest that was underneath your head vibrate. “So cute,” he muttered to himself.
You pushed your face deeper into his chest and breathed in his scent. It felt good to be back with Chishiya. It felt good to be home.

heyy sorry to bother you and idk if your still doing requests but can you do a jasper hale x reader fluff where she’s walking down the isle when they get married something like that idk how to word it but that would be amazing thank you !
yes aaaa this is so cute!!!! I am such a sucker for weddings, especially writing them. Also, I’ve provided a little background music when the time comes (you’ll know when) so feel free to listen while reading. Not required tho!!
Summary: It’s finally your wedding day. You and Jasper have been nervous for the entire day, but the moment you land eyes on each other you know you’re meant to be.
Word count: 1,230
Warnings: None
---
Jasper was as stiff as a board. All he could do was stare out of the window, anticipating the next hour. Edward and Emmett would rotate through to check on him but otherwise, he was left alone with his thoughts.
He had been ready for hours. He could care less about how he looked but Alice was determined for this wedding to go smoothly. Had she not been with you, he assumed she would be by his side in reassurance. She was his best friend.
Jasper exhaled in an attempt to let go of stress but it was no use. Nothing could shake his worries. A few moments later he felt Emmett and Edward approach.
“It’s almost time,” Edward said, his voice just above a murmur.
Jasper nodded but didn’t look at his brothers.
You paced around the room, nibbling on the edges of your fingertips. Rosalie and Bella sat on a couch not far from you, watching your anxious form, bored. Alice was the only one standing, her hands held up to keep you calm.
“He wants to do this, (Y/n), please... Just put on the dress.”
You were completely ready besides putting on the wedding gown. It was gorgeous. But your mind couldn’t think that far ahead.
“But what if he doesn’t?” You cried.
“He does,” Bella interjected.
“Jasper was terrified to even touch me six months ago...” You whined. “Maybe this is moving too fast...”
“Impossible,” Rosalie sighed. “You’ve known each other for four years. You’ve known about all of us being vampires for two. He trusts you. He wants you.”
“And I don’t see a single future where he doesn’t go through with this,” Alice placed a hand on your shoulder. You looked at her with terrified eyes. “Or a single one where you don’t either.”
You stared at Alice a little longer to see a trace of insincerity. After a moment, you found none. Even if she was lying it didn’t matter. The love you and Jasper share was greater than any possibility.
“Alright... Let’s do this.”
***
Jasper was like a statue on the altar. Maybe this was a bad idea. Maybe you didn’t want to go through with this, you just felt obligated. What if he killed you? What if he couldn’t stop himself while turning you?
These questions ran through his mind until he felt Edward’s hand on his back.
“Calm down,” He said. Jasper turned toward his brother also to see Emmett not far behind. The bulky man threw a pair of thumbs up.
Before he could respond music sounded in the woods. Esme had pressed play on a speaker since no one hired a musician. The beginning notes of Hallelujah managed to calm him down some. You always wanted this song to play during your wedding. No matter how cheesy or cliché
For the first time that day, Jasper smiled. All the memories he shared with you flowed through his mind.
The two of you were getting married on a trail that you guys walked every morning at the crack of dawn. You were the first human he met that willingly woke up that early. He could recall the first time the two of you found this trail in high school. The smile grew wider on his face.
Once you graduated Carlisle had a cabin built not far from where Jasper stood. At any moment you were going to show up on the trail. To share forever.
“She’s coming,” Edward whispered. “Don’t get cold feet.”
“You know I can’t help that,” Jasper joked. Edward chuckled.
Jasper stared at the woods once more, looking past the barren chairs. It was a small wedding. Only a few members of the pack sat in the seats, with Esme sitting in the front. On the other side sat your parents.
Another moment passed and excitement fluttered. He could feel his sister’s anticipation. He could feel your worry. It was refreshing for him to know you felt the same as he did.
Reneesme walked into view, throwing buttercups onto the trail. She smiled widely at Jasper before joining her grandmother.
You weren’t far behind Alice, Bella, and Rosalie, violently clutching onto your bouquet of flowers. You did your best to keep steady, staring down at your feet. One step at a time, you thought.
The music filled your ears in moments. It was time. All of your worries washed away when you could see the buttercups on the forest floor.
Jasper was calming you down.
You mentally cursed him, making sure he could feel your annoyance.
You drew in a breath when your bridesmaids found their places on the altar. You stared up at your fiance with wide eyes.
Nothing else mattered in the world for Jasper. All he could see was you. You shone brightly amongst the green hues of the forest. This image of you will forever be engraved into his mind.
The love between you both was immeasurable. Tears immediately welled up and you couldn't hold them in. If possible, Jasper would be tearing up all the same.
Your warm hands met his and you both looked to Carlisle, who was officiating the wedding.
“I’d like to begin by welcoming everyone and thanking each and every one of you for being here on this most happy of days,” Carlisle began. “We know that it’s no accident that Jasper and (Y/n) are standing here before us. Now, I’m not going to ramble, so I’ll let them share their vows. (Y/n)...”
“Jasper,” You said. “I had no clue what I was walking into when entering a relationship with you. I had no idea of the adventures and possibilities that would follow.
“But I am beyond grateful for it all. The good and the bad. I’m grateful even for the good and the bad that will come. Because that’s what love does. It makes you accept the beautiful and ugly that comes with a person. It makes you vulnerable at probably the worst times.
“So as I stand here in front of you, I am saying that I love you. This love I feel is limitless and overflowing. For you, I’m for it all. Good, bad, pretty, and ugly. I am with you... for you... in love with you,” You finished.
Carlisle nodded his head at Jasper to begin.
Jasper cleared his throat, his eyes still glued onto you, “(Y/n)... The day I met you... I never foresaw this moment.”
A smile grew wide on your lips as he spoke.
“The love I knew before meeting you was not the kind of love that neither you nor I deserve,” Jasper said. “You came along while I was healing, while I was hurting. You showed a new, profound love that my words cannot describe. For once... It made me look forward to the future.
"Every day, every moment I spend with you... You reignite my soul. You remind my heart of the love we share. That love is immortal. Ever burning. Forevermore,” Jasper said. “I love you (Y/n) (L/n).”
Jasper didn’t wait for a second for Carlisle to say the words. His cold lips pressed against your own as he dipped your body. You happily clung onto the edges of his coat, smiling into the kiss.
When you pulled away everyone was clapping. Yet the both of you could only hear each other’s whispers.
“Forever?”
“Forever.”

Points of view – The Interview: Luca Marinelli
How do you approach your characters.
Sometimes I also wonder how I get to the character. For “Non essere cattivo”, I had a very detailed script and a fascinating director at my disposal, so I didn't struggle to relate. It was a very brave script for the way it dealt with reality. At first my auditions went in the direction of Vittorio's character but also knowing the figure of Cesare, more than once I thought I would like to play him. I saw the auditions of others and I stopped to think how I could have done Cesare. Then at a certain point I remember that Claudio looked at Valerio and told him that it would be better to reverse the roles, to let me try Cesare, and so it went. When I read the script of “Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot”, the first thing that struck me, besides the courageous imagination, was to understand how a film of this kind could be made.
In the first part of your career, you brought an image of introverted and staid youth to the screen. Was this a choice.
Absolutely not. Or rather yes, it was the choice of those who met me first. Perhaps a part of my personality has been seen that could best marry the characters in question. It happened both in “La solitudine dei numeri primi” by Saverio Costanzo and later with Virzì in "Tutti i santi giorni", then it can be said that with Casare of “Non essere cattivo” and the Zingaro of “Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot” I was allowed to turn things around slightly, to play a character who had a disposition and behavior that was completely the opposite of what I had faced previously.
What do you remember about your debut with Saverio Costanzo.
He was my initiation into cinema, I came from the Academy and I had no idea what it was like to work on a set. The best memory, in addition to the experience of the film with him and Alba, is the first meeting, the first audition, where I really understood that I strongly wanted to work with him and that if this had happened I would have ended up in the hands of a great author.
With that film you found yourself in the main competition of the Venice Film Festival. What memories do you have of that first time at the lido.
Of a huge confusion and a big headache. We were tossed around from one interview to another and not only that, because the worst thing was always answering the same questions, and I was terribly worried not to make the situation even more boring for the machine operator, who never changed, and I don't think could take it longer to hear the same phrases over and over. Fortunately, Alba was there as well and saved me in more than one interview. The experience helped me because the following times I knew slightly more what I was going through and how to manage situations and keep stress at bay. Or maybe not yet, it's a long way.
I noticed that when you talk about your job you do it using the verb “to play” (giocare). Is it a coincidence or the choice has a precise meaning.
Perhaps it’s not a coincidence that in English the term recite is said precisely in this way because in my opinion to play, or the French jouez, represents the feeling of freedom and fun that is inherent in the job I do, better. As far as I'm concerned, the moment of the take is when the actor has to stop thinking, abandon worries, to be able to bring out the energy of his character. He has to play with the same seriousness and commitment with which a child does. I remember a piece of advice from Carlo Cecchi on the fact that in acting counts listening and the here and now. Being actively present to oneself and to others at that exact moment.
You have a method for achieving this condition.
If someone asked me something about technique, I wouldn't know what to answer, apart from listening. On the set of Andrea Molaioli's film in which I am the father of the young protagonist, the actor who plays him, Ludovico, who is really good, full of talent and very smart, once asked me what was the technique to make the best of the character, and the only thing I felt able to advise him was to try to be present in that moment and then to let go, listen and not think about the rest.
But I imagine that there are also practical aspects in the preparation that precedes the start of filming.
As for me, I try to prepare as much as I can before arriving on set because at the start of the shoot it would be good to be ready. But not everything happens automatically, in the sense that you can’t always find the character immediately. However, I have always been lucky enough to have more or less long periods of rehearsal before starting a film. I remember this moment with Saverio and Alba, where we spent weeks among us and also with the kids who would have played us as children, to try the various scenes and to create a union and harmony between the characters. The same happened with Paolo Virzì, Thony and I, more than once we gather, facing the script, to clarify all the passages and moments of the scenes.
And how did things go with Claudio Caligari.
The same thing also happened with Claudio even though the illness made everything more complicated for him. He asked us to change our bodies, to participate in the auditions of the other actors. This allowed all of us, the cast, to integrate and develop a unity of purpose and a truly rare familiarity. So in front of the camera it seemed to me that the gang, to which Cesare and Vittorio belonged, was really part of my life, that it wasn’t hard to pass from Luca to Cesare, because I had found him. And always to identify with the environment of the story, I preferred a house in Ostia, and Alessandro often came to me from Rome to spend time between the two of us. Claudio, in addition to having reading meetings together, also showed us films that were a source of inspiration for him for this film, such as “Accattone” by Pier Paolo Pasolini, “Rocco e i suoi fratelli” by Luchino Visconti and “Mean Sreet” by Martin Scorsese.
Instead, I wanted to ask you what happens between takes, for example when you come home after a day of work. You stay inside the character as it happens to Daniel Day Lewis, or you put it aside and think of something else like Marcello Mastroianni did.
I try to disconnect from the set. I try. I go home and try to do something else, but the last thought before falling asleep always goes to the next day's work plan and I leave myself a few minutes for the memory and concentration useful for tomorrow and then I close my eyes.
We asked Roberta Mattei and we ask you too. During the processing you were aware of the exceptional nature of what you were doing.
Yes. Let me explain: I saw with my own eyes that what was happening was exceptional, a man who was dying wanted to give his latest work to the public, to his audience, to his people, to people. This has no equal for me. Don't think about yourself in such a situation but about others.
Then it was the turn of Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot.
I shot Jeeg Robot in March 2014, and therefore before “Non essere cattivo”. The fact that Mainetti's film is only coming out now is due to the long post-production period necessary to assemble the shot with the special effects present in the film.
Here as well it was an interpretation and a character who completely overturns the transparent and pristine image of the first part of your career.
To make Jeeg Robot we had to convince each other, Gabriele Mainetti and I, about my success in the character. I pushed him towards a theatricality and Gabriele towards a real madness, a pure pain. In the end, I think we have found the right amount.
The construction of the Zingaro was already very clear in the writing and it was up to us, however, to find its true aspect.
Guiding him is this crazy and boundless ego, and the obsession with having to leave a mark. The Zingaro's eccentricity is partly reflected in his look, halfway between a rock star and a suburban bully. For the costumes and make-up we were inspired by the great rock icons. We dared in some choices, such as the black coat with pink leopard lining that characterize the wardrobe. For the aspects related to the way of performing, his model was Anna Oxa and in particular the video of her at Sanremo, when she sings “Un’emozione da poco”.
In part you have already answered, but I wanted to know how you choose to accept the proposals that are made to you and if you have any foreclosures towards television, or more generally towards commercial cinema.
I choose the proposals on the basis of love at first sight that must happen with the film, with its screenplay. Then figure out who will be leading the film, meet the director. I don't have any kind of foreclosure, let's say that if I don't like something I don't do it and if I like it I do. And it doesn't matter if it's cinema or television.
As a spectator what is the cinema you love.
I like films that have something to say and that I also choose based on who directed and starred in it. Usually when they ask me to name some titles I have a void. Think that the same thing happened to me also during the audition to enter the experimental center, when Lina Wertmuller asked me the title of a film I had seen recently. I was struck by a cosmic void and instead of naming her an authoritative and important film I left her stunned by citing Batman, I think Nolan's first, still a good film, but I still had Wertmuller in front of me... But to go back to what you asked me, I tell you that in general I always like to watch films that come from Sundance, of which I remember, for example “Like Crazy”, which I found disarmingly beautiful, the films of P.T. Anderson, Wes Anderson, the Cohen, there are many, and among the Italians those played by Alba Rohrwacher, Valerio Mastandrea, Elio Germano, Kim Rossi Stuart and directed by Alice Rohrwacher, Costanzo, Virzì, Sorrentino, Garrone, Salvatores. Without forgetting those of the great Joaquin Phoenix. But in reality I look at everything, let's say that I try not to lose anything of these.
Despite the certificates of esteem you have received for your performances, the impression is that of an understatement that almost seems not to be aware of what you have achieved so far as an actor.
Whenever I see a film of mine I always think there is something I could have done better. But basically I'm happy with what I've done so far. Having said that, I think that the films alone should be enough to explain everything and that the interviews don’t add anything new to what there was to say before making them. But when I am in the dance, when I need to promote, I am committed to doing it in the best possible way. I strongly think that in life and at work it’s important to demonstrate that you know how to do and not to show at all costs that you do.

Just wanted to translate this old interview for the non-italian’s fans ^^ (sorry for my English)

As soon as he had opened the door she was in his arms, tucked underneath his chin as he held her tightly against himself. It was days like those, where he was constantly close to a breakdown of some sort, where he really appreciated Betty’s comfort. Even just being near her with nothing said helped him. Her soft touch, the sweet smell of her hair he got when hugging her, her soothing voice when she knew just what to say; she always knew how to help.
Jughead had needed it all day, when the stress from the Serpents was at a point where he almost crippled under the weight of it all. He needed a break from all of it, so he needed Betty.
But once she’d pulled from the hug and he got to look at her he frowned, his hand lifting to her cheek. She looked just as worn down as he did; red eyes from crying, eyebrows scrunched downwards, shoulders slumped. He’d forget about his problems in a second if Betty needed him there for her; seeing her in such a state made him feel worse that she was suffering.
Betty’s eyes closed as his hand cupped her cheek and she sighed, leaning into it as his lips pressed to her forehead.
“What’s wrong, love?” Jughead mumbled against her forehead, followed by another soft kiss before he pulled back to look at her.
“I need to stay here tonight,” Betty whispered with a frown - at that moment Jughead noticed the backpack she carried over her shoulders. “My mom is going to kill me. I need a break from her, Jug.” She whispered, and Jughead frowned when it almost looked like she would start crying.
Betty’s mom had always worried him. She put too much pressure on Betty, too much pressure to be perfect. And he knew that Betty didn’t like the word, but she already was perfect to him. He could never see why Alice didn’t know that already.
“Of course you can stay, I’m sorry about your mom.” Jughead pulled her into another hug and gently squeezed her, pulling her inside gently so he could close the door of his trailer behind her.
“I missed you today,” Betty mumbled into his hoodie, where she’d buried her head against his shoulder. “Did you have a good day?”
Jughead almost laughed at the question, because he’d had quite the opposite really. It seemed neither of them had much luck that day. “Not really, no. I think I needed you here tonight just as much as you needed it, too.” He whispered, holding her even tighter to himself for a moment before he released her from his hold.
“Oh, I’m sorry Jug.” Betty said softly, meeting his gaze as she let her fingertips brush along his jawline.
“S’okay, you’re here now,” Jughead muttered, noticing her lips curve upwards lightly at his words as she nodded her head in response. “Do you want to watch a movie? My dad’s out still.”
“Yeah, I’m not really too tired yet.” Betty nodded, even though she looked exhausted, and leaned up on her tiptoes to kiss him briefly before she pulled away and dropped her backpack by the end of the couch.
Jughead sat on the couch and leaned back with a groan as Betty curled up to his side, her arms tightening around his waist as he browsed Netflix for a moment. He supposed she probably wasn’t in the mood for a horror movie at that moment, and he assumed she was still tired despite what she said, so after a minute or so of looking he put on the Breakfast Club - a movie they had both seen hundreds of times together - and moved both arms around Betty as he put the TV controller down again.
He felt her head drop against his shoulder, and turned to press his lips to her hairline. He always felt terrible when Betty had a bad day, he hated that she was suffering and he couldn’t do anything about it. Especially when it was her mother. Neither of them had luck in that department, he supposed. Jughead was just grateful that FP had taken such a liking to Betty. During the time that Betty was staying at the trailer, they had gotten really close, close enough that FP pretty much treated her as his own, which Jughead was grateful for. FP would happily take her in any time she needed, and he knew that Betty took comfort in knowing that she had another parental figure that she could look towards.
As the movie went on, Betty subtly but surely relaxed against him. Her stiff posture evened out until she was almost completely relaxed. A few times he’d glanced down at her and her eyes were fighting to close, but he didn’t comment on it or offer to move. There in that moment, with her in his arms, everything was okay. He didn’t want to break it and move them.
“I love you.” Betty mumbled quietly sometime into the movie, and had leaned up to press her lips to his cheek then to his lips for a few moments.
“I love you too.” He whispered and smiled softly as she pulled away, his palm rubbing against her back.
Betty smiled back and kissed him again, before she pulled away and shifted so she was laying across the couch with her head in his lap, her arm almost hugging his lag. He couldn’t help but smile softly as he watched her, continuing the movement of his palm rubbing over her back as she stretched out comfortably. Jughead wasn’t even paying attention to the movie anymore as he watched her in such utter adoration, utterly thankful that he got lucky enough to be with someone as amazing as Betty Cooper. He loved her so much that it was almost impossible. And at times like that where they needed each other the most, he was always so thankful that she was there. Comforting him without even realising she was doing it.
Jughead felt her grip loosen on his leg and he glanced down at her again, his gaze softening when he saw that her eyes were closed. He could understand how tiring it was to be stressed all day, and whenever Betty got calm enough she was easy to fall asleep. He didn’t want to wake her by moving, knowing that she’d appreciate the nap, so he carefully reached over to the back of the sofa and pulled the blanket off of it to cover Betty. She didn’t wake, only shifted slightly so she was hugging his leg again.
Jughead leaned back further into the couch as he rubbed her back underneath the blanket, smiling fondly as he watched her. If he needed to, he’d stay there forever with her just so she would be happy and calm. He’d feel all of the stress and negative feelings for her if he could, just so she would never have to suffer. She didn’t deserve it, she was too pure for the world; she deserved so much more than horrible parents and murders to deal with.
If he could, he’d run away with her just so she could be happy. Their own happily ever after. She deserved it more than anybody else.

Fanfic Self Promo: KnightRook
I decided to make a few self-promo posts on my older fics, starting with the ones centered on KnightRook! All are short one shots or drabbles, but they’re worth a little promo after all this time. They’re in a list of older ones first.
~
Missing Knight | T, 2.4k words, written 16 Oct 2017 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Speculative fic about Detective Rogers meeting the girl who, unbeknownst to him, is his own daughter.
I wrote this a little after 7x02 aired, before we knew anything more about Killian’s daughter. I was completely off with it, but I’m still quite happy with it.
~
A Young Tempest | G, 1.3k words, written 20 Oct 2017 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Killian Jones raises his daughter and learns things along with her.
Another speculative fic about Killian’s history with his daughter. Once again, completely off, but it’s one of my favourite stuff I’ve written.
~
A Song for Goodnight | G, 1.8k words, written 28 Nov 2017 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Alice Jones I sings a lullaby to her son. A long time later, Killian Jones sings the same lullaby to his daughter. Warnings: Canon character death in the past.
I have feels about Killian singing his mother’s lullaby to his daughter. Some of these made it into this fic.
~
Untitled ficlet of Killian thinking about the white elephant he gave Ella | Tumblr link
~
A Family by Choice | G, 3.3k words, written 04 Feb 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: The curse is broken, everyone’s memories are back, and Roni with Weaver find a way to remove the poison from Rogers’ heart. But it’s not easy nor perfectly safe, and it might just as well pull that family apart again rather than bring it back together.
This one is a little sad, as usual with me. But again, lots of feels.
~
The First Rain | G, 590 words, written 25 Mar 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Alice is finally free and gets to explore how being under the rain feels.
This one includes only Alice, but it’s got a lot of focus on KnightRook. (If you thought you’d find happy stuff on my fic, you thought wrong. KnightRook was brimming with angst and I milked the hecc out of it)
~
Mother’s Day | G, 650 words, written 14 May 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Modern AU. Alice makes something for her papa for Mother's Day.
I felt that Killian deserved a little more love and appreciation for raising such a kind human as Alice all on his own. Father’s day doesn’t get as much appreciation as Mother’s day, especially considering it’s usually after school starts summer break. So I felt that in a modern setting, Alice would choose to celebrate her father and their love for each other on Mother's Day at some point.
~
Poor Old Man | G, 530 words, written 12 Mar 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: While in the tower, Killian realizes he's growing old. But not alone.
There’s a sea shanty with the same name, but only the title has a reference to the story. I just thought that it would be interesting to see Killian, who’d spent his centuries in Neverland not expecting to survive his revenge mission, realize that he’s not only actually growing old, but that he’s also got someone to love and love him back as he does.
~
Sad drabble of “What if Killian hadn’t managed to save Alice from being pulled into her worst nightmare in the finale?” Like, really sad. | Tumblr link
~
Sad Old Hook drabble in direct response to the fic above, because he did end up old and alone. Be sad with me, people. | Tumblr link
~
Marks | T, 1k words, written 15 June 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Little Alice wonders why she doesn’t have any marks on her back, like her papa does. Warnings: Mentions of past physical abuse of a teenager
If you know me, you know I headcanon Killian having multiple scars on his body, many particularly from the time he was a indentured servant as a kid/teen. Being the only one who Alice sees in her first years, she thinks that she’ll grow to have such marks on her body. This is a bit of a melancholic take on Killian trying to explain it to her.
~
Untitled ficlet about Old Hook “fusing” with OG Hook, becoming one with him. | Tumblr link
~
A New Experience | G, 1.3 words, written 19 July 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Killian makes a re-imagining of a storm in the tower for Alice.
Humans have more senses than vision. In this story, Killian does his best to create an experience for Alice by invoking her other senses. (Also nerding out for my music knowledge by adding an ocean drum)
~
Sad drabble about how Killian seeing his daughter pull away out of fear of hurting him sometimes hurts worse than the curse in his heart. | Tumblr link
~
Under the Weather | G, 2.2 words, written 12 Nov 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Young Alice gets very ill and Killian tries to help her.
Don’t let my habit for angst worry you, this has a happy ending. The medicine techniques are probably inaccurate, but I wanted to focus on a scenario of Killian trying to heal Alice with the very very limited sources he has.
~
Remembering Alice | G, 424 words, written 04 Dec 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: After Lucy's birth, Killian can't help feeling sad as he remembers how his daughter is forced to live away from him.
It is what it is. A short angsty thing. Only Killian appears here, but the focus is on KnightRook.
~
A Merry Little Christmas | G, 1.6 words, written 24 Dec 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: This year, Rogers and Tilly won’t spend Christmas Day on their own.
I don’t participate on Secret Santa and similar events, cause they stress me out over producing a specific kind of content at a specific time. However, all the love people gave to that year's KnightRook Secret Santa inspired me to write a kinda independent contribution, which came out as this. It may not be Christmas yet but the warm, fuzzy feelings are the same!
~
Untitled ficlet about re-awakened Killian thinking how his true self conflicted with Rogers’ memories and original goals. | Tumblr link
I barely remember writing this one, lol. I think, it may have started as a meta post, then it took a fanfic route on its own. Fics be doing that. I’ll probably post it on AO3 at some point, too.
~
Outward-Bound | T, 2.5 words, written 20 Mar 2019 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Old, dishevelled, broken-hearted Hook is drowning his sorrows in alcohol, when he happens upon a familiar face, someone he never imagined he’d see again. Warnings: Depiction of alcoholism
Oh, this be sad! Again, only Killian appears, but the KnightRook feels are prominent.
~
Sad (shocking, I know) drabble about Killian being taken away in the ambulance in 7x20 | Tumblr link
~
The Dreams That Won’t Come True | G, 2.1k words, written 14 Sep 2019 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: Killian and Alice find a way to be together through their dreams... but it doesn't end up being what they expected.
That made me sad. Almost made me cry when I first wrote it, and I’m very hard to cry.
~
Bonus Fics!
Untitled ficlet with Robyn and Killian; three moments between them | Tumblr link
~
Accepting Happiness | G, 1k words, written 26 Nov 2018 | AO3 link | Tumblr link Summary: A little after reuniting with Alice, Killian takes a moment to try and let everything sink in. Hooked Queen, open to your interpretation.
Some introspective thoughts on how Killian and Regina would feel, right after the climactic ending of the finale, the one set before the final scene. Only Killian and Regina appear, but KnightRook is in focus.

Everything There Is
Pairing: Tommy x OC
Summary: Florence and Tommy are in this together.
Request: “Hi! Can you do a Tommy x oc or reader as his wife in an arranged marriage where she is also a business woman and their marriage was a sort of contract and their relationship is mainly professional apart from sex n all, and Tommy comes home all worn out and she asks him to share with her and tommy is reluctant but she assures and reminds him that she is capable of protecting the family, Charlie and Tommy too. And then they just kiss and Tommy leans into her or something. Thank you!!”
Length: 1650 words (allegedly)
Warnings: Underlying tones of forced/arranged marriage
A/N: Hello sweet, tender anon. This was a joy to write, especially Charlie 🥺. What a sweet angel.
--
Florence Heywood had been meeting with Tommy for two years about his investments. At first, Shelby Company Ltd simply needed advice from her property management company about renting and leasing. However, Florence and Tommy quickly found they were both as ambitious and calculating as the other. Unlike her other clients, Tommy didn't gaff at her suggestions of overseas ventures or buying big. It was a joyous union. Even Florence's mother didn't understand her dedication to the company. However, it was the senior Mrs. Heywood's father, who left the business to his granddaughter.
"Don't you have enough, dear? You've come so far, not just as a woman, but as a business owner," her mother said after being told that grandchildren were not a priority. Florence wanted more. She was a modern woman who craved a legacy and a family name that honored her grandfather's work.
"Enough of that," Tommy said, sliding a few signed documents into a folder before turning to her. "I told you to stop being so easy to read. Now, what's wrong?"
Florence rolled her eyes but was thankful when Tommy went to pour them some whiskey. The upside to meeting at Tommy's home was that the rules were nonexistent. She didn't even have to leave her shoes on.
"My mother wants me to get married soon, probably have kids," she groaned. "She's set me up to go to the pictures with a banker on Friday."
"Isn't that what most women want?" Tommy walked over and handed her a glass of amber liquid.
"You'd be surprised," Florence said, then sighed. "I'm just scared."
"Florence Heywood is scared of something? Hard to believe." Tommy shook his head.
"My grandfather left me his business when it was just one tiny office on Victoria Street. He put everything he had into it to make something of our name and pass something on. What if some prick weasels his way in and ruins it all? It’ll be his to gamble away. Or starts mistreating my employees. It's the stuff of nightmares." She shivered and looked to Tommy, who nodded in understanding.
"We Shelby's want to do the same thing. Work hard enough to have what the toffs do- the opportunities and good fortune. My brothers and I fought side by side with those fuckers in the war. We get the shell shock, blow our bloody brains out, fuckin' live with demons, don't we? But they got everything, and we got nothing. Nothing changed." Tommy said. Florence was surprised to hear him talk with her like this but certainly didn't stop him. "But I have my family and my son. Anything less than success is unacceptable. You're right to be critical. You've got to know who's on your side."
"Easier said than done," she mumbled. "How is Charlie, by the way?"
"He's with his tutor now. Won't stop talking about that train set you told him about last time," Tommy chuckled. Florence's grandfather's spare room that had the most extensive train set she'd seen. She was happy to tell Charlie all about it, but now he was intrigued.
"I'll happily take the blame."
"Hope you've got something planned to remedy this in the near future."
"I will talk to Father Christmas," Florence offered with a laugh. She sighed and thought of all of what Tommy has worked for and her as well. "You know what, Tommy? You and I are doing it. We're making a name for ourselves. Even when no one understands what we want, we have a vision." Tommy smirked, noticing that the strong drink was already making her eyes a bit glossy.
"And what is it that we want?" He asked. She raised her glass and motioned for him to do the same.
"Everything there is."
In life, Tommy wasn’t often surprised. Sure he was blind sided now and again, but his cynical nature taught him to expect the worst. A few weeks after his optimistic toast with her, Florence arranged a meeting on the grounds of having a new venture for him that would challenge his ability to be two steps ahead. The last thing he expected was a marriage contract. Like any other venture, she laid out the facts, including Tommy needing to do something good for his image as a new politician.
"This is really...something." Tommy looked over her detailed work in a slight daze.
"I know, and please don't think I take this lightly. I'm just thinking about Shelby Company Ltd and Heywood Capital, establishing a bloody empire," Florence explained. Tommy could see the stars in her eyes as she thought about the possibilities. It was her promise that locked him in, however.
"Tommy Shelby, I will protect you if you will protect me. That's as good as any marriage, isn't it?"
Tommy thought about it for a few days. Florence Heywood, a woman he'd call his friend and one of the savviest people he knew, wanted to get married in the name of a legacy. He could hardly believe it when he picked up the phone and called her office.
"Everything there is, eh?"
It took several hours of negotiation, a prenuptial agreement, and the presence of a lawyer. Still, in the end, he said yes.
For a while, the Shelby's referred to Florence in the form of the question, "isn't she that woman who manages Tommy's properties?" And Mrs. Heywood gave Florence an earful for getting engaged without ever bringing Tommy around for tea. But after a bumpy start, the rest went rather seamlessly.
One year later, Florence was sitting in her own lovely office in Arrow House with Charlie on her lap. She hadn't planned on reading to Charlie every night, but Charlie would sooner sneak out of bed in his pajamas and ambush her in her office than miss her reading to him. And he did.
"Both parties should review the completed document carefully to ensure that all relevant deal points have been included," Florence read softly. Charlie was nearing a deep sleep, so Alice in Wonderland was sneakily replaced by the contracts she was in the middle of reviewing.
When she heard the front door close, she stopped to check her watch. It was a quarter past 9 PM already. She followed the sound of Tommy's footsteps going up the stairs then quickly descending moments later. He was panicked, she could tell. If not from his steps, from the way he burst into her office.
"Sh!" Florence placed a finger to her lips. Tommy let out a breath of relief as he ran a hand through his hair. Tommy came over and placed a hand on Charlie's head, then a kiss to his forehead. Florence was surprised she received one as well.
"He couldn't sleep?" Tommy asked quietly, eyes looking to the papers in her hand.
"He wouldn't allow it without a story. Tonight's is Once Upon a Time There Was A Walk-Up in Camden Town," she mused then pressed her own kiss to Charlie's head. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, it's fine."
"Is it fine, or is it nothing?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"It's," Tommy sighed once again, thinking about his day, his week even. The Russians, the Irish, hell, Arthur, and fucking Linda. Christ.
"Tommy," Florence's voice cut through the smoke and mud, bringing him back into the present. She stood smoothly, expertly shifting Charlie to her hip. "I know you're stressed. I just want to remind you that we promised to protect each other, right? Whatever it is, we figure it out together."
Tommy reached up and cupped her cheek.
"You're right, we promised. I promised." He leaned forward and kissed her softly. It took everything for Florence to remind herself that there was no place for weak knees when holding her child. "Let's put him to bed, and I'll tell you it all, Mrs. Shelby."

I couldn’t find if you take requests, so ignore this if you dont! I loved your little fic of Marlenes coming out process, adored it! I got a hint Sirius was holding a secret of his own (😌) and maybe you could write something with Marls and Sirius having a conversation coming out to each other, sharing, realising they’re not alone? *kiss* no matter if you get to it thank you for your work ❤️
you ask and you shall recieve!
i hope you enjoy this second bit. i have uploaded it onto ao3 as well if anyone wants to check out both parts there (:
—
Sirius was running harder today, his feet pounding harshly against the solid ground. No matter how hard Marlene tried to keep up she couldn’t. She paused, letting him continue to race ahead of her as she dropped her hands to her knees and gasped for air. It was a cool day, and the lake rippled slightly as the wind blew, continuing on to whistle through the trees. Winter was coming soon, which meant the three broomsticks would be serving hot chocolate on Hogsmeade weekends. She wondered idly if Dorcas would like to join her in having one.
“Fuck!”
Marlene popped her head up at the sound of Sirius’ exclamation. He was sitting on the ground a few meters ahead, his long hair falling into his face as he slouched forward, one hand circling around his ankle. With one last deep breath, Marlene jogged towards him.
“What happened?”
“My fucking ankle. I tweaked it last week when—” He paused. “I tweaked it last week and it’s still giving me issues.”
Marlene knelt down and gently took Sirius’ ankle her hand, feeling for some sort of tear or strain. He sat silently as she worked, which Marlene found quite suspicious. Sirius was, well, pretty dramatic most of the time and this subdued Sirius that had been appearing more and more lately was definitely starting to concern her.
“What sort of thing do you and the rest of you marauders do on those nights you sneak out to cause you to fuck up your ankle this bad?”
Sirius looked at her. “You know we sneak out?”
She shrugged. The truth was that Marlene only knew they snuck out because she had seen them last month when she was up in the astronomy tower, waiting to meet Dorcas. The two of them had started becoming closer and Marlene—though the very idea scared her—has started to have feelings for the other girl. She had yet to anything about these feelings, though. It was strange, maybe, but Marlene wanted to be out to her friends before attempting to start anything with Dorcas. What fun would it be if she couldn’t tell anyone about her?
Marlene looked at Sirius, who had resumed staring off into space. She frowned, suddenly feeling guilty about not catching onto his obviously distressed state earlier. How terrible a friend she must be for not noticing despite running with him nearly every day and sharing a common room with him.
“You were pushing yourself pretty heavily,” She said, taking out her wand and transfiguring a stick into some wrap to tie around Sirius’ ankle. “why is that? James tell you that you need to for Quidditch, or something?”
Sirius shook his head. “Just stressed.”
“About what?”
He looked up at her and Marlene could see the worn-down look in his eye. The genuine sadness there made her heart ache for him. It was not a look that belonged on Sirius Black’s face.
“Have you ever…felt alone?” He asked, and Marlene pretended not to notice the way his eyes filled with tears. She nodded.
“Well, that’s how I feel. I…I have a secret and I’m too afraid to say it out loud. I’m scared of what could happen if I do. Scared of being rejected, of losing my friends. Of losing Remus.”
Sirius said the last part softly, and Marlene got the feeling that she perhaps was not supposed to hear it at all. She stayed quiet for a moment, eyeing him, and wondering if maybe, just maybe, Sirius was like her.
“I don’t think there’s anything you could do that would make your friends turn their back on you, Sirius. Especially Remus.” Marlene said solemnly. He scoffed.
“You don’t know that.”
She thought for a moment, wondering what she should say next. She thought back to the past few weeks, about how desperately she wanted to confide in her friends, in Sirius, and how she too was scared of rejection. It was a terrible, feeling as though you could not share your most authentic self with your closest friends. She would not let Sirius feel that. Neither of them had to.
“Fine, I don’t know.” Marlene said. She reached out and took hold of his hand, prompting him to look at her. “What I do know is that I won’t turn my back on you. There is nothing you could say to me that is going to make me love you any less, Sirius. You’re one of my best friends and I care about you too much to let anything come between that.”
Tears fell from Sirius’ lashes and he shook his head. “You don’t know—”
“Try me.”
He sucked in a breath, trying to compose himself before whispering into the wind so softly that Marlene almost missed it.
“I’m gay.”
Marlene smiled at him, recognizing the look of relief in his eyes, even as the fear lingered. She remembered that feeling, remembered the support she had received from Dorcas and she wanted to give that to Sirius. With her arms wide open, Sirius fell into them, crying in earnest now, and she held onto him tightly.
“Please don’t hate me, Marls.” He whimpered and Marlene had to bite back tears of her own.
“Oh, Sirius. Never. I could never hate you.” She laughed slightly. “Besides, it’d be pretty hypocritical of me to hate you for being gay when I’m a lesbian.”
Sirius pulled back, looking at her with wide eyes. “You’re—”
“Into girls? Yes.”
Sirius opened his mouth, stunned for a moment, before punching her lightly in the shoulder. “Why didn’t you tell me?!”
“I wanted to! I almost did like ten times! C’mon, you know how intimidating it is!”
They laughed, their tears turning into those of joy as they embraced each other once more. Marlene felt like she could breathe again. Coming out to Sirius made it seem more real, made her feel even more empowered than she was before when it was just a secret between her and Dorcas. She wondered if she would continue to feel like this the more people she told. Lily and Alice would be supportive, there was no doubt in her mind. She would tell them tonight. She would tell James and the rest of the team during practice. Surely they would be happy for her before James made them promptly get back to work. She would tell Remus in the library where they studied. He would probably nod his head and offer a small smile, thanking her for being so honest.
“You should tell your friends.” Marlene whispered.
“You should, too.”
She pulled back from their hug, smiling her watery smile.
“Let’s do it together.”

What to expect in this chapter: Gemma/Isaac, Niall/?, Ruby(???), and a graveyard ‘date’
.
.
.
Isaac closed his umbrella, almost too caught up in what had happened to realise it'd stopped raining since Gemma had left. His mouth opened to answer Emilia’s question, but his brain was stuttering, unable to keep up.
He'd kissed Gemma.
No, she had kissed him. He didn’t know why she’d done it, but did it matter? He'd kissed her back and he'd liked it. He'd kissed his best friend’s sister, who had a boyfriend, a shitty one, still, it didn’t justify what he’d done.
If Harry knew about this—
His stomach twisted into knots as his palms started to sweat. Harry couldn’t know about this. They were finally on good terms again. Isaac couldn’t fuck this up. Had Emilia seen the kiss? Would she tell Harry if she had?
Isaac took a deep breath to ease his mind. To Emilia, he said, “I came to see you. You didn’t show up for the shoot, Emi.”
“I lost my phone and I thought the shoot was next week.” She gave an apologetic grin. “I’m very sorry.”
Her apology didn’t sound sincere, but now he had bigger problems to worry about. With an impersonal tone, he said, “If you’re not interested anymore, you should’ve let me know so I could find someone else.”
“No, no, I still want to model for you!” She wrapped her fingers around his wrist before he even thought about ending the conversation. His alarmed expression got her blushing as she hid her hands behind her back, staring at her feet. “I’d been...um...I’d been busy preparing for my audition this morning. That was why I took two days off in a row, and then my boss called me here today because the shop got overcrowded.”
“An audition? For a movie?”
He hoped his startlement didn’t offend her. There was nothing wrong with her auditioning for a movie; she used to go to film school after all. But not so long ago she’d told him she’d already given up on her dream of becoming an actress, so he was curious to know how that passion had sparked again.
“Yes, a real movie!” she exclaimed, her green eyes twinkling like Harry’s whenever he talked about his job, or Y/N.
As if Emilia could read Isaac’s mind, she added, “Harry encouraged me to attend casting calls. I’ve done some commercials and modelling before, so a movie would be a nice challenge. He also gave me the contacts of some directors—” His dubious look stopped her midsentence, and her voice went flat, “I didn’t get them from his assistant. He actually gave them to me.”
“No, I didn’t mean—”
“It’s okay. Please don’t explain.” With a frustrated exhalation, she peered around him. “Was that Gemma who just left?”
The hair stood up at the nape of his nape when he met her questioning gaze. Convinced that she’d seen the kiss, he had to admit, “Yeah, it was Gemma.”
Her eyes went round as she considered him in a sceptical manner. “Are you two dating?”
“No. She has a boyfriend.”
Gemma was so private that not many people knew she had a boyfriend. For all he knew, he could’ve lied to Emilia and gotten away with it even if she’d witnessed the kiss. He couldn’t bring himself to do it, though. He had a strict rule against lying. No matter how trivial you thought your lie was, you’d have to cover it up with more lies, and before you knew it, the lie had become too big, like a snowball rolling down a hill. The damage it would cause was inevitable.
Nodding slowly, Emilia ahhhhed in silence and concluded with, “Too bad. I’d love to talk to her.”
He waited for her to continue, but then she told him she had to get back to work and would text him with her new number. Just like that, she disappeared into the shop, leaving him in bafflement.
Emilia was the most curious person he’d ever met, so if knowing Gemma’s relationship status was a good enough answer for her, then she must’ve seen the kiss. What he couldn’t explain was how cool she’d been about it, as if him — her half-brother’s best friend — kissing her half-sister, who had a boyfriend, was the most normal thing in the world.
Either she hadn’t seen anything, or she was a much better actress than he thought.
.
.
.
Y/N had been a fool to think she would worry less about writing now that she’d found the perfect literary agent. For the last few months, she’d been stressed out about pitching her manuscript, but ever since she’d had Laura, her biggest concern had circled back to the manuscript itself.
Laura was a perfectionist, which was good, because she never made mistakes. But she expected the same thing from all of her clients, and Y/N would do anything to please that woman. Even if it meant pulling an all-nighter and living off on tea and protein bars just to finish another scene to move on to the next.
After their first meeting, Laura had emailed Y/N a very long list of what she ‘didn’t like’ about the story. Some scenes were redundant; the drama should be more intense; the plot twists weren’t shocking enough; more sex, more sex, more sex.
Y/N had vowed to herself that she would never, ever, write a generic story just to match a publisher’s bulleted list. Yet here she was, shamefully ticking boxes and changing the entire story as she went. If her characters could step out of the page, they would strangle her in her sleep for how she’d fucked up their lives. But if she was going to have an agent, she had to believe in her agent.
Laura knew what kind of book sold and what didn’t, and at this point, Y/N just wanted her novel to be published. She didn’t care if it wasn’t the best story in her opinion. As long as Laura guaranteed that Y/N’s babies would end up on the shelves in the biggest bookstores in London, Y/N would do anything – and she meant anything – Laura told her to.
“Y/N!”
The voice interrupted her train of thoughts, and she glanced up from her laptop screen to meet Alice’s amused gaze. “You haven’t touched your tea,” Alice said, her grin widened. Only then did Y/N realise her tea had been served a long while ago and already gotten cold. “And maybe stand up and walk around for a bit. How could you sit in one place for three fucking hours? Can you still feel your ass?”
Y/N snorted at the remark and wiggled against her chair. “This ass still feels pretty fine to me.”
“Weirdo,” Alice said, shaking her head.
But Alice did have a point. Y/N had been staring at the screen for so long that the words had begun to look all the same; a short break would do her some good.
Her shoulders sagged as she took off her AirPods, rubbed her eyes with the heels of her palms and glanced around the shop. It’d been so crowded when they had arrived this morning. Now, most of the customers had left, and there were only them, a couple at the table by the street-facing window, and three girls in the corner booth, who were laughing and taking selfies.
Alice shot them a disapproving glare before switching her attention back to the novella in her hands — The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Y/N’s mother had read it to her when she was little, and she still remembered the story as if she’d learned it by heart. You knew when a book was good when even Alice, who absolutely hated reading, could not put it down.
Not wanting to disrupt her friend, Y/N quietly pushed away from the table when Alice snapped her head up, her eyebrows scrunched. “Where are you going?”
“Gotta pee.”
Alice gave a dismissive wave, and her eyes were fixed on the book again.
In the bathroom, Y/N took the far back stall, telling herself to finish quickly so she could get back to work. But while cleaning herself, she heard echoes of high heels accompanied by the laughter of the previous group of girls. The door next to hers opened and shut, and the water ran as one girl washed her hands.
“Did she leave already?” asked the one in the stall.
“I think so,” said her friend outside.
“Shame. I thought Harry was gonna show up,” the third girl sighed in disappointment as the water stopped. The toilet flushed, heels clacked against the marble, and the water ran again.
“I saw him in the car park once,” continued the third voice. “He came to pick her up. You should’ve seen her bitchy face. No wonder she’s got no friend but the psycho Alice Young.”
Y/N scowled when the first girl chimed in, “Remember Mandy Torres from English Lit?”
The Mandy who’d pretended to be friends with Y/N and then shit-talked about her behind her back? Yes, she remembered.
“So Mandy invited them to her party because she’s a sweetheart. Then that bitch got insecure, thinking Mandy might steal her man, so she blew up at Many in the library, calling her names and stuff. Two people saw it!”
Y/N could bet these girls knew it was a lie, and still, they chose to believe it so they could have a reason to hate her.
Three of them laughed at the same time, and then the second one said, “Can’t believe she still showed her face after that clip.”
“What clip?” her friend asked, sounding just as confused as Y/N.
Her heart was pounding, and her fingers were clawing at her knees. She didn’t know what clip they were referring to. And why shouldn’t she show her face?
Yes, she and Harry had filmed a sex tape before, but they’d been careful and deleted it right after they’d watched it together. It was impossible that the clip still existed and had gotten leaked.
“Oh, you haven’t seen it? This morning, someone uploaded a clip of Harry Styles and Ruby Ellis dancing together at a party in LA. They were all over each other.”
“Oh my God, they’re definitely fucking again!”
“Can you blame him? Would you pick that whore over Ruby Ellis?”
Their laughter faded into white noise, and soon their footsteps had become mute.
Y/N sat there for a long moment, fists balling against her skirt until she was sure she was alone again. That was when she got on her feet, flushed the toilet and clawed the door open.
Her reflection in the mirror caught her by surprise. She almost didn’t recognise herself from how angry she looked. Taking a deep breath, she stomped to the sink to wash her hands and then dried them with a paper towel before going back to her table like nothing was wrong.
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see those girls watching her. They whispered something to each other, probably shocked and embarrassed that she’d heard them say all those terrible things behind her back.
The old Y/N would have stepped out of the stall and put them in their place. But the new Y/N — Harry’s Y/N — wouldn’t put on a show in public and take down her boyfriend’s career and her dignity.
“You okay?” Alice asked when Y/N plopped down in the chair across from her.
Y/N flatly said, “yes,” and put on her AirPods to get back to work. No more distraction. Fuck those girls. Fuck the internet. She didn’t need to see that clip to–
Her phone buzzed once, and she flinched. Cece had sent her a post on Instagram.
Now what? Was she going to check it? Her mind went numb for a second as her fingers froze on the keyboards. She kept staring at the blinking cursor until her anxiety became too much, and she surrendered. She grabbed her phone, swiped right on the notification and placed her thumb on the home button to unlock the screen.
Have you seen this?
No, she hadn’t. And she hadn’t intended to until now.
The thumbnail of the video was too dark for her to make out what it was, but the caption said: WHAT HAPPENED TO Y/N??? With shocked emojis. Three shocked emojis. His fans were freaking out for her, so this might not be good.
Biting a nail, she muted the volume and tapped on the clip to be directed to the post. It was dark at first, but when the pink light started flashing, she could make out Harry’s figure. She knew his drunk dance moves; he was definitely three sheets to the wind here. Then, she caught a glimpse of the dress Niall had criticised the other night. Ruby looked just as drunk as she danced next to Harry, shouting the lyrics of whatever song the DJ was playing.
It was hard to know for sure what was happening here as it was too dark, but a part of Y/N felt relieved because she had expected worse. They were just dancing together, their bodies barely touching, and there were so many people around.
“Shit.”
She jerked her head to the side, and Alice’s face almost gave her a heart attack. Alice was standing beside her, one hand on the back of Y/N’s chair, the other lay flat on the table.
“I don’t care what everyone’s saying. It doesn’t look like he’s cheating on you.”
Y/N’s heart beat faster even though she knew Harry would never cheat. Not on her, nor anyone else. She’d seen how he’d beat himself up for sleeping with Ruby despite her having a boyfriend. He’d made mistakes in the past, but he would never hurt a woman by cheating on her.
Maybe the issue didn’t lie in the fact that everyone was saying he had or was going to cheat on Y/N. Maybe seeing him dance with Ruby – at the big fancy party Y/N had refused to attend – made her feel like he would be happier at places like that, with people like that, people like Ruby and his famous friends.
Her chest sank as she finished the thought, but she still managed to set it aside as she closed her laptop and rose from her seat. “Ready to go, Al?”
“Sure, but can I pee first? I need to pee.”
Alice’s grimace made her giggle as she watched her friend rush to the bathroom.
She began to gather her notebooks and chargers when her phone buzzed repeatedly, and when she saw it was Harry, she picked it up. Something told her he’d just woken up, seen the clip and freaked out. He should freak out. Because she’d almost had a heart attack.
She shoved the rest of her things into her bag and hit the talk button.
“I’ve seen the video, so we don’t have to talk about it.”
“Shit,” he grunted. “Are you mad at me? I swear I was drunk and didn’t know who I was dancing with, but Jeff called me a taxi afterwards and–”
“Don’t worry, I’m not mad at you.”
When he let out a sigh, she could almost see him close his eyes and put a hand against his chest. “Where are you?”
“At a coffee shop on campus.” She leaned her hip against the table as she turned and made eye contact with one of the girls in the corner booth. The girl turned back to her friends like nothing was wrong, but Y/N knew the bitch was scared to death. To Harry, she said, “I’m heading home though. I’ll see you at the airport tonight, kay?”
“That...won’t be necessary.”
“What do you mean?” She straightened when realisation hit her. “Harry, where are you?”
“Holmes Chapel.”
She knew it.
“I knew it! I knew you’d go without me.”
“I’m sorry, babe. I didn’t want to involve you in my family drama. I’m going to talk to my mum alone, and then–”
She didn’t want to let him finish. “I’m already involved, though. I could help. You might get anxious and say the wrong things. Look how it went with Gemma.”
When he paused, she knew he knew she was right. Still, his stubborn ass would never admit it. “I’m sorry, babe. At least you can focus on your book while I’m not there. Miss you. See you soon.”
The line disconnected. She stared at the screen in disbelief, and text messages from him popped up.
Forgot to say I love you.
I love you.
With a sigh, she stuffed her phone into the front pocket of her backpack and pinched her temples. She hated that she couldn’t stay mad at him, but she wished he hadn’t blindsided her like that.
Whatever. She’d deal with him when he got back tomorrow.
She shrugged on the backpack just in time Alice returned from the bathroom. Alice clumsily threw her things into her nude tote bag and hurried to the door as Y/N preceded. The moment they stepped out into the street, Alice asked, “Did those Kardashian wannabes bother you when I was in the bathroom?”
She was referring to the girls in the corner booth.
“Why’d you think so?” Y/N responded as she kept on walking.
“I saw them glaring at you when we left, and I almost stopped to throw a fist.” Alice swung her fist and frantically apologized to an annoyed pedestrian for almost hitting him.
“Well, they talked shit about me in the bathroom and didn’t know I was there.” Y/N rolled her eyes.
“Why didn’t you tell me? I would’ve poured drinks on them like I did with Mandy.”
Y/N froze in her tracks, her eyes widened. “You did what with Mandy?”
“I heard her talk shit about you at her party so I poured vodka on her head.” Alice clasped both hands together in front of her chest. “Please don’t be mad at me.”
Y/N stared at her friend unblinkingly for a moment, and then crushed her in a fierce embrace. “You’re a good friend, Al. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Laughing, Alice clasped Y/N’s shoulders and pushed away from her. “You’re not going to cry, aren’t you?”
“No, you dick.” She brushed Alice’s hands off. “Lunch?”
“Sure. I’m starving.” With an arm around each other’s waist, they strolled down the busy pavement together.
After lunch in the Vietnamese restaurant right across from Y/N’s block, they ran into Blake outside. He was about to get into his car when he spotted Y/N and waved at her.
This was actually the first time she’d seen him in casual clothes. He always wore suits when he went to work, and workout clothes when he was at home. Today, he wore a black t-shirt with dark blue jeans, his hair uncombed, his smile wide. He looked almost five years younger. Almost like the ‘high school bad boy’ Blake that she remembered.
“Jesus, is that your ex-boyfriend slash neighbour?” Alice dropped her jaw as she fanned herself, and Y/N quickly swatted her on the arm.
Blake rested an arm on the roof of his car as a dimple appeared in his cheek. “Working on a Saturday, Miss Writer?”
“Working everyday, Mr Lawyer.”
Alice elbowed her gently while looking Blake up and down, so she had to add, “This is my friend Alice.”
“Nice to meet you, Alice. I’m Blake.”
Alice caught his hand with both of hers and shook it firmly. “Y/N has said a lot about you.”
“Has she?” Blake arched an eyebrow at Y/N, who scoffed and waved Alice’s comment away.
“Don’t believe her. She’s nuts.”
“Hey!”
Y/N ignored her friend and switched her attention to Blake’s car. He hated driving as much as she did, only because he preferred his motorcycle – which she assumed he’d left in the US – otherwise he would rather walk. And since he didn’t have to work on Saturdays, she took a guess that he was going out of town.
“Where are you going?”
“Holmes Chapel.”
His answer made her flinch. From what she’d heard, his parents didn’t live there anymore. So why would he go there?
“I’m visiting my grandma,” he said before she could ask. “You’ve met her a few times, remember?”
She nodded. His grandma used to love her. After they’d broken up, Y/N had even considered going to his grandma’s house every day so that Grandma Roman would grow attached to her and convince Blake to get back with her. Now she was glad teenage Y/N hadn’t had the nerves to do something so humiliating.
“Y/N, you’re going to Holmes Chapel tomorrow, right?”
Y/N shot Alice a disapproving glare before telling Blake, “Harry and I were gonna go together, but something came up and he had to go without me.”
Had to. Inner Y/N rolled her eyes at the words.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Blake said, but she waved it off.
“Don’t be. Tell your grandma I said hi, okay?”
“Okay. Good luck with your writing.”
Her response was simply a dissatisfied hum. Just thinking about spending another night alone in her flat with her laptop could almost make her go insane. She could go out tonight, but she’d feel guilty because she didn’t have a reason to not write another chapter. If she was surrounded by family and friends, however...
“Blake,” she said before he could get into his car. “Can I go with you?”
When Alice dropped her jaw and Blake’s eyes went wide, she continued, “I can sit in the back. I won’t bother you.”
She'd already braced herself for rejection, knowing how much Blake hated being in a car with other people during long drives, even when he was the passenger. He relished the feeling of an adrenaline rush while riding his motorcycle, and had often joked that he’d felt most alive when he might die. Being in a car confined him. So did the company of someone else. It’d been different when they’d been a couple but they weren’t anymore. Now she was just ‘someone else’ to him.
“Sure, I don’t mind.” He flashed a grin that deepened his dimple and caught her by surprise.
“You don’t have to. I don’t want to make you feel uncomf–”
“I don’t mind driving you, Y/N. Get in.” He patted the roof of his car, and Alice aimed a pointed glare at him as if she hadn’t sighed like a schoolgirl when they shook hands.
Although Y/N understood Alice’s concern and was well aware that she would be spending three hours in the car with her ex, going with him sounded like a better idea than taking a taxi.
She hadn’t sat behind the wheel since the accident and had only let Harry drive her around. But somehow she trusted Blake. She’d trusted him with most of her first times, and being in a relationship with him for two years had convinced her that he was a careful driver.
“Y/N!”
The solitary voice caught her by surprise. She whipped around to see Niall crossing the street and stalking toward her with a bubbly grin on his face.
“Is that Niall Horan?” Alice unconsciously dug her nail into Y/N's arm, and Y/N winced as she pulled away.
“What are you doing here, Niall?”
“I had a photoshoot in this area and I thought we should hang out. You know, since we’re officially friends now.” He raked his fingers through his hair and arched his mouth when he noticed Blake. “Hey, man.”
Blake only raised his palm, saying nothing.
“This is Alice,” Y/N said as she gripped Alice’s hard shoulders. “She’s a big fan of yours, so please be nice to her.”
"Nice to meet you," Niall said. "Alice is a pretty name."
When he took Alice's hand and pressed a kiss to it, Y/N thought her friend would just pass out right in front of them. Alice might be bold with Blake, Isaac, and even Harry, but facing Niall, she suddenly forgot how to speak. Which might be a good thing because she said crazy things when she was nervous, and Y/N couldn’t handle more crazy right now.
“I’m sorry, Niall. I’m actually leaving.”
“Oh, where are you going?”
“We’re going to Holmes Chapel,” Blake answered on her behalf, still leaning against his car. He didn’t seem frustrated that she and her friends were wasting his time, and she truly wondered why.
Niall turned back to her with an eyebrow raised. “Weren’t you going with Harry tomorrow?”
“Apparently not,” she huffed. “But don’t worry. I’ll text him to let him know.”
“I can give you a ride.”
Niall pointed to the black Audi parked on the other side of the street. A man in a black suit, buzzed head, twice her size, gave them a cold stare as Niall waved and smiled at him.
“That’s Barry. He’s cool.”
She took a surprised breath, considering Barry for a quick second. “I think I’ll be fine with Blake.”
She would have agreed to go with Niall in a heartbeat, if there was just Niall, and he was driving a less luxurious vehicle. She could already imagine how badly her body would ache when they arrived, as she wouldn’t dare to move a single muscle in his new car, especially when Barry was the one who drove it.
“Okay.” Niall gave a nonchalant shrug as he fished out his phone and made a quick call. “Hey, man.” He gave the scary man across the street a peace sign. “I’ll stay with my friend. You may leave now. Thanks, Barry.”
Y/N watched Niall’s bodyguard/chauffeur get into the shiny Audi, not knowing what to expect when Niall put his phone away and switched his attention back to her.
“Let’s go.”
She narrowed her eyes at him. “What do you mean?”
“I’m going with you,” he said with a smirk, “and Blake.”
“Can I come, too, please?” Alice interjected as she tugged Y/N’s arm. “I’ll be quiet as a mouse, you won’t even know I’m there.”
“I’m not the one who gets to decide here, Al,” Y/N grumbled.
“Alice and Niall can join us,” Blake interfered, at last. “The more the merrier.”
When Alice started bouncing like a kid in a sweet shop, he mouthed it’s okay to Y/N, and she responded with an apologetic twitch of her lips that was meant to be a smile. If he was only acting to be polite to her friends, she’d feel so shitty.
Blake opened the door on the passenger side for her, but Niall quickly got in and buckled his seatbelt. With a sigh, she joined Alice in the backseat. Something told her that this was going to be the longest three hours she had ever experienced.
.
.
.
Gemma tightened her fingers around her phone. With one hand in her hair, she kept pacing back and forth in her hotel room, the beating of her heart accelerating with each ring. She hated phone calls. There was something so nerve-wracking about talking to someone and not knowing what their true reaction was. However, she knew Asher wouldn’t hold anything back.
When you’d been with someone for two years, you’d figure out their patterns. You could predict what they were going to say or do in a certain situation. And she wished it hadn’t been the case this time as what she was expecting was pretty awful.
She’d always considered Asher’s bad temper a minor flaw, but it hadn’t been easy lately. His business was going down. His dad had decided to stop pouring money into his failed ventures, which was why he’d been spending so much time with his family. He wanted to be on his father’s good side while sweet-talking his mother into helping him.
He was a mama’s boy, like Harry. The only difference was that Harry genuinely loved his family and would never blame Gemma for his own mistakes. Asher, on the other hand, took his exasperation out on her, making her feel like she’d been the cause of all of the bad things that’d happened to him in the last couple of months. She’d been walking on eggshells around him, well aware of how toxic that was, but the idea of ending a two-year relationship was too intimidating.
The ringing abruptly stopped. And so did she.
“Yes?” Asher spoke. He hadn’t heard from her in two days, and that was all she got from him. Yes?
“I have to tell you something,” she said anyway, trying to sound more composed than she looked. Perhaps a phone call was a good idea after all.
“I also have something to tell you. Can I go first?”
“Sure.” As much as she wanted to get this off her chest, the more she delayed, the more time there was to prepare herself for his reaction. She’d never seen anyone confess to their partner that they’d cheated and receive instant forgiveness, not even in movies. It definitely wouldn’t be the case for her and Asher.
“I think we should take a break.”
Her brain slowed down, unable to process that information. Her mouth opened and shut a few times like a goldfish until she could speak. “What do you mean?”
She knew exactly what a break meant. She just couldn’t bring herself to believe he’d actually proposed it, at least not before she told him about the kiss.
“I want us to stop seeing each other for a while.”
“We haven’t seen each other in weeks, Ash.”
“Come on, Gem, you know this is inevitable. We’ve been fighting constantly.” Yes. Because of him. “And I can’t remember the last time we had sex.”
“So you’re suggesting that we take a break so you could fuck other people?”
A long stretch of silence followed her question. Waves of anger splashed over her as she gripped the phone so tightly her knuckles turned white. She couldn’t believe she’d been so scared to tell him the truth, and then he’d proposed something like this without any sign of guilt.
“We both need this, Gem.”
“You’re right. We do,” she said despite the lump in her throat. “Goodbye, Ash.”
She ended the call before he could say another word and rushed to open the window. She needed some fresh air, otherwise, she might throw up.
Gripping the sides of the window frame, she took in a sharp breath. When she opened her eyes again, she saw a familiar Prius parked in front of the building. It looked like the one in Harry’s car collection, but wasn’t he in Holmes Chapel right now?
She’d gotten her answer as soon as the door was opened, and Isaac stepped out, phone in his hand. When he brought it up to his ear, her phone started buzzing, and she instantly grabbed it and tapped answer.
“Hello?”
“I’m here. Let’s go,” he said.
“What?”
“I’m driving you, remember?”
“Driving me where?”
“To Holmes Chapel.” His soft laugh melted the coldness remaining in her heart from the phone call with Asher. After an awkward pause, he said, “Oh shit, didn’t Harry tell you? He asked me to pick you up.”
She shook her head even though he couldn’t see. “I said I’d take the train.”
“You don’t have to. Your mum asked me to come for dinner and I just needed a reason to get out of town.”
Something told her Harry hadn’t asked him to pick her up, and she hated how good that made her feel.
When the thought of Asher crossed her mind, she snapped out of her fantasy. This wasn’t right. She was a hypocrite for being angry at Asher and then having butterflies thinking about her brother’s best friend. Clearly she wasn’t going to sit in a car with Isaac for three hours after what she’d done.
“Come on, Gem. We don’t have to talk about it.”
It.
He couldn’t even say the word. Her kiss must have disgusted him. She’d forced herself on him, and he was still nice enough to offer to drive her. He was only doing this because he was nice, because he was Isaac, not because he had feelings for her. Why would she want him to have feelings for her, anyway? She was still with Asher. Kind of. And she would eventually have to tell him that she’d cheated on him and then beg for his forgiveness.
Now that she thought about it, she believed she deserved this. She needed to start acting like a grown woman and dared to face what she’d done.
“Okay, give me a minute,” she told Isaac.
“All right.” A grin could be heard in his voice before the call disconnected. She sighed roughly, tucked her phone into the pocket of her jeans as she gathered essential things and quickly headed out.
When Isaac saw her walk toward him from the building, his first instinct was to shove his hands in the pockets of his trench coat, giving her a smile so courteous that it made her skin crawl. He loved giving and receiving hugs, but he didn’t do it with her anymore because she’d crossed the line.
He opened the door on the passenger side for her, and she got into his car, buckled her seatbelt as he got behind the wheel. The door was closed, muffling the traffic noise, and she could hear the pulse in her throat loud and clear.
She had to say something.
“What happened to the Range Rover?”
“Oh, this one’s Harry’s,” he said, his voice casual as he started the engine and drove back onto the street. “He lent it to Emilia so she could go to a movie audition. She asked me to return it.”
The nervousness was washed away by irritation as her face screwed up. “He lends her his cars now? Harry is anal about letting people drive his babies.”
“He did lend it to her. I asked him,” Isaac said with a shrug. “He said she’s basically family now.”
“I need to slap him when I see his stupid face.”
“And I need to watch that. Maybe film it, too,” he chuckled, eyes on the road.
She allowed a goofy smile to play on her lips, which vanished as she started to analyse what he’d said. “Did you meet Emilia today?”
“We did a photoshoot. She’s my new model.”
“Oh,” she said, unsure how she wanted that one word to sound.
Before she could dwell on the idea of him and Emilia, he broke the silence. “Harry said you’d asked him to go alone, but then you changed your mind. Is everything okay?”
“Yeah.” She tucked a strand behind her ear, fighting the urge to look at the side of his face as they talked. “I wanted him to fix the mess that he’d started, but then I realised he was an idiot and would most likely mess things up even more.”
That wasn’t the reason. Harry was no longer the careless kid who randomly brought up Winton and made their mum cry without knowing it. He was an adult and would figure out a sensible way to talk to their mum about Winton and Emilia. So why did Gemma insist on going home?
It took a moment’s thought for her to realise she’d done this out of guilt, and maybe desperation, too. She felt bad about forcing her brother to do the hard work, and at the same time, needed the safety of her family to escape from the stress her relationship had put upon her. She wished she could tell Isaac everything, but she didn’t want to make this trip about her.
“Are you mad at me?” His question brought her back to reality. Only then did she realise they had left the city and were heading onto a country road between large green fields. “Gem, are you mad at me?”
Her heart skipped a beat as she began to fidget with her handbag on her lap. He’d promised that they wouldn’t talk about the kiss. Did he lie to get her into this car?
“No, I’m not.” She winced at how forceful that sounded.
“Are you sure?”
“You said we didn’t have to talk about it,” she snapped and stiffened in her seat when he darted a quick glance her way before focusing on the road again.
He swallowed once. “I just don’t want us to be awkward with each other, Gem.”
“You’re right.” She lowered her face and scratched the tip of her nose. “I’m sorry for what I did. I wasn’t thinking.”
“I know why you did it.”
He did?
“You had a fight with your boyfriend and you were confused, right?”
“No, I–” She paused, feeling overwrought. “Why aren’t you upset? You should be angry at me.”
“No, I shouldn’t.”
“Yes, you should!” She almost turned and sat upright if it wasn’t for the seatbelt holding her back. “I kissed you when you didn’t want to be kissed. You should be angry.”
“Gemma,” the sound of her name vibrated with his warm laughter, and she felt her body melting into the leather seat. “I kissed you back, so I’m equally guilty here.”
Had he kissed her back? She couldn’t recall. The comforting scent of his cologne accompanied by the shock and guilt must have dulled her senses. But if he had kissed her back, did it mean he’d wanted her, too?
“Don’t worry,” he said after stealing another glance at her. “I know you’re in a long-term relationship. And I don’t want to mess it up, so let’s pretend it never happened. I think you weren’t aware that you were kissing me. I mean, someone like you would never kiss me.”
“Someone like me?” Her gaze jumped to the side of his face. “What does that mean?”
Thinking she was offended, he awkwardly explained, “That...that was meant to be a compliment. You’re a strong and independent woman. You’re smart, beautiful, funny–”
“Pull over,” she said, her heart pounding in her ears.
A glimpse of horror crossed his face as he faltered, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to–”
“Pull over, Isaac.” Her voice was strained, her eyes intense. The car reached a standstill on the side of the road, and her mind was spiralling out of control as she unbuckled her seatbelt and launched herself across the gearshift. She was on his lap, arms wrapped around his neck.
His body was stiff as a board when he dropped his gaze to her mouth, making her wonder if he’d been thinking about her since they’d kissed. She knew she had. The memory made her lips tingle as if he’d kissed them again. She wanted him to kiss them again.
They brought their mouths together at the same time. His hands claimed her face to deepen the kiss, and euphoria shocked through her system as she kissed him harder. She fisted the fabric at his chest, pulling him closer while his hands swept down her back, squeezing her hips. In that moment, when they were alone on the empty road surrounded by windy green fields, something that was meant to be wrong, felt like the rightest thing she had ever done.
.
.
.
Harry had been waiting on the porch since he’d gotten the text message from Y/N. His mum had told him to wait inside, but watching the street somehow made time fly faster. Or so he hoped.
He rested his elbows on his knees, face between his palms, unconsciously tapping his right foot. He did deserve this. He’d blindsided her and now she was making him pay by going home with her ex. Fuck that lawyer kid. Who did he think he was? If there hadn’t been Niall and Alice, Harry would have driven all the way back to London to pick her up.
Twenty minutes felt like two hours as he waited, and when he spotted a car from a distance, he immediately bounced onto his feet. But it was Isaac and Gemma in his black Prius, not his Bambi.
“Wow, aren’t you excited to see me?” Gemma sneered as she stepped out of the vehicle and walked towards him.
Isaac greeted Harry with a hug, and Harry pulled away and nodded his head toward Gemma. “You didn’t have to drive her, you know. I could’ve picked her up at the station.”
Silent, Gemma thinned her lips as Isaac rubbed the back of his head. Why were they acting so awkward? Had Harry said something wrong?
“I know what’s going on here.” Harry put his hands on his hips and narrowed his eyes at both of them. “You’re mad at me for lending Emi my car.”
Gemma’s shoulders dipped as she let out a sigh. “Even that name irritates me.”
“Oh, come on, Gem.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her to his chest, but she pushed him away. “That one is my least favourite,” he said, pointing to the Prius.
A corner of her lips quirked up as she brushed past him. “And you’re my least favourite person.”
Isaac tossed him the key and followed her, but before they made it to the porch, another car entered their street. Harry’s Bambi was here.
“My Bambi’s here!” he squealed like a little kid, making Gemma snort.
“Wait, Smiley’s here?”
“It’s weird that you still call her that, but yeah, Niall’s here, too,” he told Isaac and stalked toward the car which had pulled over in front of his house.
Niall got out first, stretching his limbs before pulling Harry in for an embrace. “You owed me, Harold.”
“I know. Thanks, mate.” Harry let go of Niall to hug Alice. “Didn’t know you were coming.”
“I didn’t either, but here I am. Lovely neighbourhood!” Alice lifted her shoulders as she adjusted the strap of her bag and then lowered her voice to almost a whisper, “Niall’s single, right?”
“Al! What are you whispering about?”
Harry’s gaze jumped to Y/N, who had finished saying goodbye to Blake. When Blake saw him, the kid raised a palm and a smile which looked fake as hell, but Harry managed to keep his calm and returned one just as plastic.
Y/N walked around the car and threw herself into Harry’s arms, holding his face and kissing his lips. He held her flat against him as he kissed her harder. He could hear Niall making a gagging noise, but he didn’t care as long as he got to rub this in Blake’s face. Because he was as mature as a nine-year-old, and he was fine with it.
“Stop eating her face, pervert.”
Gemma’s comment broke him and Y/N apart. He flipped his sister off and, with a smug look on his face, watched Blake’s car drive ahead and disappear at the end of the road. A swat on the chest made his eyes jump back to Y/N.
“You’re in so much trouble, Harry.” Her nose wrinkled, and he wondered if she knew how cute she looked when she made that face. He cupped her cheeks and kissed her forehead when Gemma took their friends into the house.
“I’m sorry, babe. Why didn’t you text me sooner?” he said with a pout. “You waited until you were almost here to tell me you were coming.” With fucking Blake.
“Well, I knew you were going to wait on the porch. Couldn’t make you wait for three hours.”
His heart fluttered as he pressed a kiss to her temple. “You know me so well, kid.”
“I’m still pretty mad at you,” she said. “But I do have a lot to tell you about.”
“About your book?”
She smiled and nodded. He released a relieved sigh as he brought her hand to his mouth and kissed her knuckles. “I was afraid that you’d be mad at me. The clip and everything.”
She lifted an eyebrow. “Would you prefer that I’m mad at you?”
“No.” He shook his head and pecked her lips then either corner of it. “I’m a bad boyfriend. I should’ve driven you, not your stupid ex. Thank God for Niall and Alice.”
“Niall was even worse than you,” she giggled.
He nuzzled her neck, tilting her head up to press a series of kisses to her jaw. When his hands swept from her back to her spine, she snatched his wrists and pinned them to his chest. The way she arched an eyebrow and clicked her tongue made his cock swell against the fly of his pants. When her pupils dilated, he knew she felt it, but she didn’t acknowledge it and gave him a chaste kiss on the lips before pulling away.
“I have to say hi to Marcy and Dad. I’ll come over later, kay?”
“Tell them to join us for dinner.” He tugged her arm, not letting her go just yet. “Bradford and I can bond over our hatred for Blake. It’ll be fun.”
“I’m sure he’d love to come, consider how much he loves Isaac.”
“Damn it,” he cursed when she burst out laughing and cupped his face to kiss him twice on the cheeks. With a lovesick smile, he watched her pad across her front yard and waited until she’d gone into her house to finally return to his.
His mother was so happy to have so many guests that night. She’d cooked a big meal for everyone. Even Bradford and Marcy came to join them. Just like Harry’s promise, he and Bradford had bonded over their same intense dislike for Blake Roman. Y/N had to stuff their mouths with spaghetti so they would stop talking. Alice had won Niall over with her review about the first book she’d read in her life, and now Niall was reading the first book in his life. Weird, but cute.
What was even weirder, however, was to see his sister being so close with Isaac. They’d been whispering back and forth the whole night, and not once did Gemma mention Asher. Harry didn’t like Asher that much so he didn’t mind, and it was good to see Gemma happy again. He hadn’t seen her smile that big before. His mum, too.
His heart sank to the bottom of his chest as he remembered the reason they were all here. He had to tell his mum about Winton.
She would be so disappointed. She might even cry. And this dinner, all of these jokes, all this laughter would mean nothing when she heard about Winton and Emilia. Harry hated to be the reason the women he loved cry. But if he didn’t tell his mum, and she found out herself, he’d be the shittiest son in the world. This would hurt either way, one less than the other.
Dinner was over soon. While everyone gathered in the living room for a game, Harry and Gemma volunteered to clean up. Just like when they were kids, they did something wrong and volunteered to do the housework so the chance of them being forgiven would be higher. Harry knew what he’d done wrong. He didn’t know why Gemma was here.
“They’re playing Scrabble.”
The voice made him flinch before two arms wrapped around his waist, pulling her body toward his. Y/N tiptoed to kiss his neck, and he giggled like a little boy. Gemma gave them a funny look but didn’t say a word because she, and everyone else, was already used to their public affection.
“Let’s wait until tomorrow morning,” she told Harry, and his face screwed up.
“And ruin Mum’s entire Sunday?”
“Well, would you prefer that she stay up all night?”
“I agree with Gemma, baby.” Y/N tightened her grip around his waist, resting her cheek against his back. She felt so small pressed against him like this, and since he’d gone two days without fucking, the thought of holding her up against the wall and spreading her open with his arms beneath her knees was enough to turn his balls blue. He would make that fantasy a reality if Gemma weren’t here, and they weren’t one door away from the only group of people whose opinions about them mattered.
“Okay, tomorrow then,” he said and turned on the tap to wash his hands.
“Alice will sleep with me tonight,” Y/N said. “Niall or Isaac can use our guest room.”
“I’ll sacrifice Niall. Your guest room is shit, and I love Isaac a bit more than Niall.”
She pinched his side and he jumped, but her arms forced his body still.
“I’ll let Gemma pick then,” he said.
“What?” Gemma asked, distracted.
“Isaac and Niall,” he raised a smirk. “One will have to sleep in Y/N’s shitty guest room. One stays here with us.”
“It’s not shitty,” Y/N said in a protesting tone.
“Babe, I saw a rat the last time we had se—”
She smacked a hand over his mouth before he could finish the sentence. As Gemma rolled her eyes at them, he plucked Y/N’s fingers off his face and told his sister, “Go ahead. You pick.”
She opened her mouth. For a second, he thought she was going to answer, but then she released a huff and said, “I’m not doing this with you children.”
“Children?!” He dropped his jaw as she stalked out of the kitchen. Y/N dissolved into laughter as he spun around, took each of her arms and draped it over his shoulder.
A smile played on her lips, and she asked, “Do you wanna join them or go on a date with me?”
“Oooh, where is this date?”
“The cemetery.”
His face went blank for a second as she stifled a laugh. “Just kidding.” She pinched his cheeks. “I’m going to see my mum. You coming?”
“Why does it have to be now?”
“Are you coming or not?”
He was so whipped he would have gone without knowing it was the cemetery. “Fine. But if we see a ghost, I’m leaving you behind.”
She laughed and shoved him away, and they raced each other to the living room. They told everyone that they’d go out for a walk. And as he escorted her to the door, Niall and Alice started clapping and cheering, and Gemma tossed a pillow at Niall to get him to shut up.
There wasn’t a particular reason that Y/N had chosen to plan a cemetery visit at this hour. She simply enjoyed strolling around town in the night as much as Harry did. When he was a teenager, he used to bring one of his dates to the field behind his house, and they had taken long walks under the night sky and made out in his car afterward.
He’d thought it’d been the most romantic experience in his life, until two years ago, when they’d visited her mother’s grave together. That was when he’d realised the cemetery could be romantic. Everything turned romantic when he was with her.
So if she wanted to walk around a graveyard at one in the morning, he would blindly follow, no questions asked.
After finding a safe parking spot, they walked to the tall iron gate that looked like the set of a Hitchcock movie. No one had bothered to polish it since the last time they’d been here, and he guessed no one intended to anyway.
Just like the last time, she snuck through an opening in the fence to get into the cemetery, and he tagged after, his heart thumping loudly. They’d better get to share a cell if they got arrested for trespassing.
It was a little foggy at 1 AM. The air was cold and the grass was damp. They padded across a desolate lot and were careful not to get their shoes dipped into the mud. As they followed the brick pathway, he negotiated his way around the gravestones, trying to keep up because she was walking too fast, like a ghost. The thought made him shiver. Probably not the best comparison to make when they were literally in a cemetery.
After a five minute walk, they finally arrived. Her mother’s headstone stood erect, bathed in light spilt from the ashen moon. Seeing the fresh flowers on the grave, Harry assumed Bradford had just visited his wife today. Y/N had told Harry that her dad came here every week to trim the grass and clean the stone. It was nice how much things had changed since their last visit.
As she squatted down to rearrange the flowers, Harry spotted a newly dug grave nearby and pointed to it, grinning. “Your mum’s getting a new neighbour.”
Y/N put a finger to her lips and shushed him. “Don’t disrespect the dead! They’ll come for you tonight!”
He scoffed at the threat, but as a cold breeze whisked right through his clothes, he immediately cowered to her side, and she doubled over, almost choking on her own laughter.
After giving her mother updates on her book and his Oscar nomination, Y/N kissed her fingers, pressed them against the moonwashed stone and bid her mother goodbye. They followed the same path weaved around tombstones to go back to the opening between the fence. With a feeling of being watched, Harry kept looking behind him as he clung onto Y/N like she was his weapon.
“Don’t look back,” she said. “My mum is following us.”
The shadow of a smile on her lips almost got him running for his life. He swore he’d never do this with her again, knowing for a fact that he would, if she only asked.
Once they returned to their parking spot, they retrieved two cans of Coca-Cola from Y/N’s bag and lay on their backs on the bonnet of his car to watch the stars. His adrenaline from their stroll across the cemetery was finally washed away as he listened to her ranting about her new book.
He wasn’t a writer so he wasn’t qualified to give her any advice. He mostly just listened, and because he knew Y/N didn’t want people’s advice. She vent her frustrations to feel better for a while, and most likely would end up doing whatever felt right to her.
Soon the topic of work bored her out. She extended a hand toward the sky and closed her fingers around nothing as if she was grasping the stars.
“Have you read The Little Prince?”
The random question put a smile to his lips. “The book Alice and Niall couldn’t shut up about during dinner?”
“Yeah.”
He took her hand that was in the air and brought it to his mouth so he could kiss her knuckles. “I have. Why?”
“My mum read it to me when I was little,” she said. “I used to wish I’d lived on the little prince’s tiny planet. All you needed to do was move your chair a few steps and you could see the night sky whenever you liked. We could live in this same moment, over and over again.”
“And never grow older,” his voice softened, and she replied with a quiet hum.
“Wouldn’t that be great?”
He cocked his head to the side and met her softened gaze. But then a hint of worry washed out that dreamy haze, and a line appeared between her brows.
“Do you sometimes wish I was cooler?”
That was a big shift from the story of the little prince. Surprised, he squeezed her fingers gently. “What do you mean? You’re always cool.”
“I mean, cool like...like your friends cool.” She huffed in frustration as she didn’t know how to properly get her point across, but he’d already figured it out.
“You should’ve told me the clip still bothers you,” he said with a frown, and the way she pursed her lips confirmed his speculations. “Bambi…”
“We used to have a lot in common when we were kids.” Her bottom lips trembled as her breaths quickened. “Now our lives are so different. And I’m fine with it, and I know you are too because we love each other. But sometimes it feels like…” She stalled, and with no intention of finishing that sentence, dropped her gaze to her hand in his. “I wish I fit better in your life, so when people see us together they’d just accept it without questioning why.”
“Why do you care what they think, Bambi?”
She bit her bottom lip, thinking for a second. “I’m trying not to. It’s hard.”
A smile stretched his lips as he leaned in, stroked his thumb across her cheek and kissed her mouth lightly. Her lashes fluttered when he pulled away.
“The little prince has a flower, right?” he asked.
“Yes, he has a rose,” she said with a pensive expression. “The only one on his planet.”
He nodded once. “If I remember correctly, she’s a very beautiful flower. She shows off her thorns and puts on a superior attitude, but is actually a sensitive little thing and doesn’t like to expose her vulnerability.”
“Oh no, I’m the flower,” she gasped, making him chuckle.
He brushed her hair out of her face and went on, “When the prince comes to the earth, he finds himself in a garden with hundreds of roses, all as gorgeous as the one he loves.”
She continued for him, “But he still thinks his rose is unique and more important than all of the other roses together.”
“Yes.” He propped himself up on an elbow to lie on his side. “And why is that?”
“Because he loves her, and he knows she loves him, too,” she said while caressing his face with the back of her hand.
“That’s right.” He nodded again. “Most people think the prince is stupid for travelling from planet to planet for a rose, but he doesn’t care what they think. No matter where he is, he always thinks about his little flower. He fell in love with her when he was little and has spent his whole life watering and caring for her. Love comes from investing in other people, isn’t it?”
Her smile widened as she combed her fingers through his hair, and her cheeks bloomed with colours when she drew him in and kissed him deeply. He melted from the intensity of her lips as his hands smoothed down her arm, squeezed her behind, and pulled her as close as he could. The hardness of his body against her softness. Adrenaline coursed through his veins. The butterflies in his stomach. He was spiralling out of control.
“I’m crazy about you,” he muttered against her lips and threaded his fingers in her locks. “I don’t care how different we are. When I first said I love you, I promised I’d stay. So I’m yours as long as you still want me, Bambi.”
The corners of her eyes crinkled as she wrapped her arms around his neck and nuzzled his cheek. “I want you forever. Can you handle that?”
He drew her closer, and their bodies came flush together. “Forever and ever, baby,” he said before kissing her again.

| Upon realizing her emotional and mental health was in desperate need of assistance, Miss Rachel Stevens had requested a week off in order to address these issues with a professional. To sub her senior English Class is Miss. Alice Perribow, the resident Art teacher at Valley High School. |
***
MONDAY
Alice Perribow was what you’d imagine as a well put together woman. Smart, well dressed, on time, prepared, as a teacher she was the definition of responsible. This was simply to mask the fact that her entire life was falling apart, going through a messy divorce and property battle over her perfect house with her soon to be ex husband was causing some outside stress. Alice never brought home stress to work, she allowed herself to indulge in the happiness her job gave her, even for 8 hours a day. So when Rachel Stevens came knocking on Alice’s office door after hours and pleaded her to sub- Alice was hesitant to say yes but agreed anyway. She always has had an inability to say no to people who have shown her nothing but kindness, and Rachel was very kind. Alice’s hair was messier than it normally would have been this Monday morning, she had been running late due to a mistimed alarm. Her brunette hair was thrown up in a messy bun and her short heels clicked down the hallway as she rushed to Rachel’s classroom. The only way Alice could make this work was by subbing in the afternoon, the librarian Mr. Fredricks subbed the morning classes. Alice also had to teach Art in the morning, but didn’t have classes in the afternoon, usually just private lessons with students.
Alice was quite pleased to see no students waiting in the classroom when she pushed in, and unceremoniously dropped her things onto the desk sending a binder of papers crashing to the ground. “Shit,” Alice mumbled to herself as she crouched down to gather the papers. Suddenly a pair of dark tennis shoes joined her as someone crouched to help her pick up the papers. When Alice looked up, her throat closed only slightly upon looking into the greenest eyes she’s ever seen. A pair of green eyes that belonged to Billy Mitman, “thank you Billy.” Alice smiled, taking the papers from him as she stands. She’d seen Billy around the hallways before, and he’d also been by her office a few times for piano lessons. “Of course Miss Perribow.” He says, flashing her a smile before turning down the row of chairs to his desk. His eyes stayed on her and he only wondered where Miss Stevens was for a fleeting moment before his focus returned to Miss Perribow. She was beautiful, her dark hair framed her face perfectly and her eyes were so bright as she turned to the whiteboard. Miss Perribow was a bit curvier than Miss Stevens, and Billy couldn’t take his eyes off the way those jeans hugged her hips. Billy knows it’s wrong for him to be thinking of his teachers this way, but girls his own age don’t interest him.
She so gracefully wrote her name out on the whiteboard as more students trickled in. Margot came in and beamed when she saw Miss Perribow, “good afternoon Miss Perribow!” She exclaimed and Alice turned with a smile on her face. Alice already knew Margot fairly well, she had taken Alice’s Art class every single year of her high school career. “Margot, so good to see you.” Alice said, a dimple popping out on her left cheek. Billy smiles fondly at the small dimple in her cheek. Soon the first bell was ringing and Alice closed the door before turning to address the class, “I’m sure a lot of you already know me but in case you don’t- I’m Miss Perribow. I’m going to be the afternoon sub for Miss Stevens this week.” She smiled and Billy noticed two boys adjacent to his left sharing a look before turning their horny gaze back towards Alice. “So from what I understand is that you were about to start the Canterbury Tales yeah?” She asks for clarification, and Margot nodded happily. Alice smiles warmly at Margot before pulling a copy of the book, “what would you say the overall theme of this tale is?” She asks and the entire room falls into silence. Margot glances around before raising her hand, “it’s clearly about courtly love. These two men, once family nearly beat each other to death to prove they deserve her affections. In my opinion, it’s a tale of how poisoning love can be.”
One of the boys to Billy’s left snickers, “did we read the same thing? Because I’m pretty sure one of them got sick from a gnarly case of blue balls.” He says with a smirk, and most of the class erupts in laughter. He’s a big guy, definitely a football player and built like a tank. In fact if Billy recalls correctly, that’s what most people call him: Tank, even though his real name is Leon. He leans forward on his desk, eyeing Alice. “Do you know what that is Miss Perribow?” Tank smiles slyly and Billy feels annoyance bubbling in his chest. Alice manages a small smile as she turns her attention towards Tank, “you know Leon, I think it would be a much better idea to return to the Knights Tale.” Alice dismisses but Tank turns to his friends and smirks before clearing his throat loudly. “It’s when a girl gets a guys engine revving, and he pops a hard one, but then she doesn’t do anything about it. She just leaves him there with blue balls. Get it? Cause they’re sad.” Tank raises an eyebrow as Alice turns to look back at him. She smiles warmly, doing her best to keep her frustration at bay as she strolls down the row towards Tank’s desk. She leans over on Tank’s desk, placing her palms flat on the surface of the desk. “Tank, it seems you have forgotten that I know your mother personally. Shall I give her a call and inform her that you thought it would be appropriate to educate the class on sex ed today?” She asks, her tone serious while Tank’s cheeks turn scarlet.
The class giggles quietly as Tank sinks back into his desk, but when Alice turns Tank whips his phone out and snaps a photo of her ass. “Delete that.” Billy snaps loudly, drawing Tank’s attention as well as everyone else in the room. Alice turns, her eyebrows furrowed as Tank and Billy are locked in a deep glaring match. “What the hell are you talking about freak?” Tank snaps and Billy takes a deep breath through his nose as Alice makes her way back down the row of desks. “I saw you take a picture of Miss Perribow, and I know you didn’t take it because you really like her jeans.” Billy snaps and Alice’s eyebrows raise as she turns towards Tank. Tank’s cheeks are red, but not with embarrassment- this time it’s with anger. “Leon, please see me after class. Billy, you too.” Alice says, looking over the both of them before returning to the lesson. Billy keeps his eyes on Tank for the remainder of class, and he hates when he sees Tank shamelessly look down Alice’s shirt. When the bell rings, neither of the boys move as Alice walks towards them and sits in the desk in front of Billy. Their eyes meet and Alice quickly looks away when she feels the tingles shoot through her body. “Somebody want to tell me what’s going on here?” She asks, looking between the boys.
“Yeah Tank is a pervert and took a picture of your ass.” Billy snaps, his voice tense as he glares over at Tank. Alice’s cheeks flush as she averts her eyes to Tank, “is that true?” She asks and Tank rolls his eyes. “Which part? Because no I’m not a pervert, I’m a lover baby. Did I take a picture of your ass? Hell yeah, I’ll need some jack off material for later.” Tank snickers, simply enjoying the rise he gets out Billy with every word out of his mouth. Billy pushes up from his desk angrily, and Tank stands too. The two of them are chest to chest and they stand eye to eye, although Billy is the same height as Tank- he’s not nearly as muscular. Alice stands, and when Tank’s eyes avert to her Billy immediately steps in front of her. “Boys, you both need to calm down. I think this conversation should be continued in Mr. Alvarez’s office.” Alice says, trying to move between the boys but Billy won’t let her get anywhere near Tank. “I’d happily bend you over his desk if that’s what you mean.” Tank smiles and Billy is lurching forward before Alice arms curl around him to hold him back. “Tank you need to leave,” Alice snaps and he shrugs as he casually walks out of the classroom. The bell rings again, signaling the end of the school day as Billy stands in the classroom- his chest heaving.
“Billy, you know he was saying that just to make you angry right?” Alice says gently, and he shrugs as he reaches for his bag. Billy begins to head for the door when Alice’s left hand catches his eye, “Miss Perribow, aren’t you married?” He asks, stopping when he notices her lack of wedding ring. Alice is surprised to say the least, she didn’t imagine any of her students paid that much attention. “We’re um- separated.” Alice explains awkwardly and Billy nods as his eyes stay fixed on her. Alice’s cheeks heat up under Billy’s gaze and she takes a deep breath to control her emotions. She’s just lonely without Ben that’s all, she’s projecting her feelings of loneliness on a handsome student. He’s a teenager, and she needs to get herself together. “What happened?” He asked and what scared Alice the most about Billy’s question, was how genuinely he asked her. The look on his face makes her think he genuinely cares, but she knows about Billy. Rachel gave her a bit of a warning on Billy’s own issues with projecting his feelings on others. He doesn’t really care, he’s just projecting. “Sometimes things just don’t work out.” Alice smiles through the breaking of her heart. She tucks a piece of hair behind her ear, ignoring the look that Billy is giving her. A look that says he isn’t buying her bullshit line.
“Was he a douchebag or something?” Billy asks, sitting back against a front row desk as Alice begins to pack up her things into her bag. “Billy, language.” Alice scolds gently, ignoring the cheeky smile on Billy’s face when he notices her flushed cheeks. “He did something didn’t he?” Billy says, and Alice gives him another look before sighing deeply and running a hand down her face. “Yes he did, and I don’t really want to talk about it.” Alice says and Billy nods instantly, a small smile pulling at the corners of his lips. Alice turns to her book and begins to look over the lesson for tomorrow as Billy makes his way out of the classroom, and he nearly says something he shouldn’t but he bites his tongue. Alice spends at least another hour sitting at that desk, writing out the lesson for tomorrow. In the back of her mind her thoughts drift back to Billy, he’s charming and sweet in a boyish way. He’s smart, and he thinks deep thoughts- Rachel says he thinks quite philosophically. Tank however is becoming a problem that deeply concerns Alice, he’s much taller and much stronger than she is. The next morning she’ll have to talk to Mr. Alvarez about him.
The sun is setting when Alice makes her way towards the parking lot but out of the corner of her eye she sees a figure leaning against the school. Turning her head, her cheeks warm when she sees Billy leaning against the brick wall with a cigarette in his mouth. “Billy?” She calls, and he glances her way with a smile on his face. Alice hugs her bag to her chest as she makes her way towards Billy, “what are you still doing here?” She asks him and Billy shrugs, taking another drag from his cigarette. He rests his head back, his signature blue hoodie loosely hanging around his shoulders. “Skipped the bus.” He says with a smile as he blows smoke out. He turns his gaze to hers and he cocks an eyebrow when he notices her cheeks warm. Alice steps back, “why?” She asks him, and he chuckles as he drops his cigarette butt to the ground before putting it out with his shoe. Billy pushes off the wall and steps towards Alice, and her breath catches in her throat. “I wanted to see you Miss Perribow,” Billy breathes and Alice feels a shiver run down her back. This is a student. Alice steps back further, trying to distance herself from Billy. “Billy that’s- that’s not appropriate. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Alice says, her voice rushed as she turns towards her car.
“I don’t have a ride, so I hope you’re comfortable leaving a student alone at night with no way to get home. Guess I’ll have to walk.” Billy says, his voice lilted mischievously. Alice halts, her back still facing him. As a teacher, she can’t leave him here alone. “I’ll give you a ride, this once.” Alice says and Billy smirks as he lifts his bag over his shoulder before falling into step next to Alice. “It’ll be our little secret Miss Perribow.” He says with a wink and Alice simply slides into the driver seat of her car. The silence in the car is a tad bit uncomfortable as Alice pulls the car out of the parking lot, and heads towards Billy’s house. “Is Perribow your maiden name?” Billy asks suddenly, the street lamps illuminating his face as the car passes underneath them. Alice bites at her bottom lip as she turns the corner, “yeah it is.” She says and Billy nods with a soft hum. Alice dreads heading back home, Ben is probably there and she doesn’t feel like facing him at this moment. “What did he do? Your ex-husband?” Billy asks, his voice soft as he looks over at her with gentle eyes. Alice feels a rush of emotion sneak up on her, god this is so unprofessional. She keeps her eyes on the road as she softly sniffles, “he cheated on me.” Billy is quiet, but Alice knows his eyes are on her.
When the tears come, Alice feels beyond embarrassed and refuses to look at Billy. “Pull over.” He says, and Alice pulls in front of a house putting the car in park. She wipes her eyes as she turns to look at him, “is this your house?” She asks, trying to divert the attention from her misty eyes. Billy turns in his seat to look at her, one of his hands coming to hold hers. “No, but you shouldn’t be alone right now.” He says and Alice pulls her hand from his while quickly shaking her head. Alice takes a deep breath before turning to look at him, “Billy no I need to get you home, your parents are worried sick I’m sure.” She argues, it’s time to be the responsible adult. Billy stubbornly shakes is head, “nope told them I was hanging with Sam and wouldn’t be home until late. Look if you don’t want me here I’ll get out and just hang out until later-” Billy starts, turning to get out of the car but Alice places a hand on his arm to stop him. “Just tell me where you live-” She asks but Billy opens the door and exits the car. With a heavy sigh Alice exits her car after him, “Billy! It’s not safe for you alone.” She tries to reason but he just keeps walking. Feeling panic and worry for his well being Alice calls out after him once more.
“Okay you’re right! I don’t want to be alone, but you are a student. An underaged student. I’m breaking a law just being with you now after hours.” Billy stops, and then turns to look at her. Their eyes lock as he makes his way back towards her, “I’m old enough to know what I want. I want to help you tonight.” Billy argues but Alice waves her hands. Why does she have to be so drawn to him? “You’re 17 Billy.” She protests and Billy laughs bitterly. “I’m turning 18 tomorrow. I’m practically an adult already.” He says, and she knows she won’t change his mind- it’ll be dangerous for him to wander around at night alone. “Billy-” She starts but Billy cuts her off, “Alice.” Her words die in her throat as she shivers upon hearing her name roll off Billy’s tongue. Alice stands silent, her eyes fluttering as she looks at Billy and finally she enters her car. Billy slides into the passenger seat, “I’m hungry for ice cream. I have money.” He says and Alice feels reluctant and anxious as she hesitantly starts the engine of her car. She takes off towards the nearest ice cream shop, ignoring how her heart races in his presence. Alice is aware of Billy’s behavioral issues, and she’s not sure if he’s currently on his medication or not.
Once they’d gotten ice cream and parked in an empty parking lot, Billy turned to Alice again. “Who did he cheat on you with?” He asks and Alice has no idea why he is so interested in her failed marriage, but it is kind of nice to talk to someone about it. “His secretary. Screwed her at work, came home to me.” Alice laughed bitterly, not even worrying about being professional anymore. Clearly it doesn’t matter to Billy whether or not she’s his teacher, he’s determined to break down her walls. “He sounds like a dick.” Billy says and the simplicity of his comment, despite how complicated their situation is makes Alice laugh softly. Alice spoons more ice cream into her mouth, “yeah he is a dick.” She agrees and Billy smiles next to her. Alice turns to look at Billy, admiring his side profile for a moment longer then she should. “Billy, why don’t you hang out with people your age? Instead you spent time with Miss Stevens, and now me.” She asks and Billy pauses, as though he’s searching for the right words. “Because you’re smart, beautiful, experienced. You’re a real person, not just some high school kid caught up in shit that doesn’t actually matter.” He says, his eyes locking on hers once again. Before Alice can even move Billy is leaning over the center console and pressing his lips to hers. Alice freezes for a moment before melting against him, her lips moving with his for a fraction of a second before her mind once again returns to clarity.
Alice yanks away from him, panic pounding in her chest. “You’re 17, and I’m your teacher what the hell am I doing?” Alice panics, her hands fumbling to start the car. Billy tries to reach for her hand, but she won’t even touch him. “Alice it’s okay, I know what I want-” He starts but Alice vigorously shakes her head, her hands digging into her hair as she drops her head to the steering wheel. Billy reaches out for her once more, “Alice you didn’t do anything wrong. I wanted that.” He reassures her with a hand rubbing down her back but Alice snaps up and gently pushes his hand off her- despite the fact that he was actually calming her down. “My name is Miss Perribow, and you need to tell me where you live William.” She says sternly, her eyes focused straight ahead. Billy leans back in his seat, mumbling his address and she takes off. Alice’s hands are trembling as she drives quickly, and she hates how her lips are still tingling from the slight contact with his. This is wrong. How she’s feeling is wrong. “Alice, I know you wanted it. I felt you lean into me, and you can deny it all you want but I felt the spark. I know you felt it too.” Billy snaps once they arrive at his house, slamming the car door once he exits.
Alice exhales a shaky breath once his front door is closed and she drives down to her house, which funnily enough isn’t far from Billy’s house. When the garage closes behind her, she drags herself into the house and sure enough Ben is sitting at the kitchen counter. “Where have you been? I’ve been so worried baby,” He says, his voice soft with concern as he stands to approach her. Alice waves him off, feeling bile rising in her throat when he calls her baby. “Ben please don’t.” She sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose with her pointer and thumb as she kicks her shoes off. “Don’t call me that. You know we’re divorcing.” She says, her voice tired and he doesn’t push her. He watches her trudge up the stairs, but something about her seems off tonight. Like her mind is elsewhere. As Alice pulls herself into bed, she can’t get a certain pair of green eyes out of her head. She can’t forget the feeling of his lips on hers, and she knows the rest of this week is going to be more difficult than she’d anticipated.

Finding Love - Part 5
Request: Can you write something that has to do with the Edward’s sister story and this time it’s his turn to find his mate when Bella comes into his life for the first time. She’s happy for Edward but she just hopes Bella won’t hurt him, and of course she’s with Jasper
Requested by: @saracons87
New Vampire Teaser
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
It was getting closer to the dance and everyone was really excited about who was going with who. Bella still didn’t have the nerve to ask Edward yet, but you had high hopes.
“I can’t wait for the whole thing.” You gushed with Alice who was as equally as excited as you were. The others couldn’t bother.
I can’t wait to dress up in that new dress I bought.” She said, smiling to herself.
“Which one?” Asked Rosalie nonchalantly. Alice had ordered over a dozen dresses since last week and they had all came in yesterday.
“You’ll just have to wait and see.” She said smiling even wider.
Jasper was minding his business on the sofa as he always did and all you could imagine was him in a tux.
“Are you going with Emmett and Edward?” You asked Jasper. The other two boys were going on a hunting trip and Jasper hadn’t mentioned a word.
“I don’t think so. I was hoping you and I could hunt closer to home tonight. Our own little date night.” He said, winking at me.
“Ooo, how romantic.” Rosalie said laughing. “Nothing like sharing a deer over candlelight.”
Howling laughter came from Emmett from the other room.
“You two belong together, you know that?” You said to her. She winked at you before standing and crossing the room. Jasper took your hand and led you out the door into the woods behind the house. The two of you walked hand in hand, with silent conversation drifting between you. There was no need to talk. Sometimes your emotions told him more than anything and his touch was more than enough to tell you his thoughts.
Finally, feeling a bit hungrier than usual, you both broke into a light sprint before catching the scent and the heartbeat of a nearby deer. A smile spread across your lips as you both stalked it from behind before catching it off guard and devouring it together. A sensation rumbled through you as you both took off to hunt for another.
It wasn’t but a few hours later, when the light of the day had turn to the dark of the night, when the both of you returned. Carlisle was watching the news as he did in the late evenings.
Jasper wanted a quick shower and you decided to wait for him in the living room with Carlisle.
Not a moment later, Carlisle’s phone rang. The conversation was devastating. A man had just been found mauled.
“Alright, I'll be there.” He said, hanging up. Both Rosalie and Esme had joined you in the living room. “It was a local. But this looks suspicious.”
Jasper was beside you in a heartbeat, holding you close to him. “Other vampires?” He asked.
Carlisle shook his head. “I’m not sure.”
Jasper looked worried and you felt it too. This wasn’t right. A local would know better, or so you thought, to go into the woods alone without proper protection.
“I’m going to the station to get the body. I’ll be back later.” Carlisle said as he kissed Esme on the forehead and walked out the door.
It only took a few hours before Emmett came through the front door. A frown appeared on your face.
“You’re back way earlier than I thought.” You said. Rosalie was just as confused.
Alice shook her head. “So, he went after her huh?”
Everyone looked at her. “Edward went to save Bella. Apparently, she can’t seem to stay out of harm's way.”
Rosalie scoffed. “She was already in harm's way the minute Edward met her.”
It wasn’t that much longer when Edward arrived back home. He told us he saw Carlisle and the body.
“It looks like vampires are in the area. Let’s keep an eye out from now on.” Edward said through strained teeth. He looked stressed.
“Go eat.” You said to him and he nodded, taking off out the front door again. It wasn’t until the next morning when he came back. You assumed he was at Bella’s and a quick touch of his arm confirmed it.
Weeks went by and there wasn’t too much coming from the news to make you or anyone else feel less safe, though you still had your precautions. Everyone was in an uproar at least once a night when Bella found out about us. Edward was always angry with Rose and Rose was always angry with you and Edward, only because you backed him up.
“You don’t understand Rose!” You yelled. “Everyone in this house has a mate except for Edward and as soon as he finds her, you have to hate on him for letting her know about us?”
Rose was furious. “SHE IS A HUMAN AND IS HOLDING ONTO THE DARKEST SECRET OUT THERE!”
“Don’t you think I know that?” Edward yelled back. “I can’t leave her and I can’t be with her either. I am damned. DAMNED!” His voice reached an octave that none of us had ever heard before.
You watched as he left the room, looking at Rose pissed off. “You’re the best sister in the world.” You said sarcastically and left the room as well. Jasper had been holding your hand the entire time. Something in you wanted to fight Rose but you couldn’t hurt her. No matter how much you two fought and disagreed, you still loved her.
The fight had started because Edward wanted to bring Bella over that weekend to meet everyone. At this point, you had been dying to meet her and touch her person so you could learn all the things about her.
When the day finally came, Edward warned you to not touch her as he wasn’t sure if she would be comfortable with it. However, the moment she walked through the door, your excitement overtook you and you hugged her, learning everything you could about her in that small span of time.
“Hi Bella, it’s so nice to finally meet you!” You said.
Alice kissed her cheek and smiled, commenting on her smell. This made everyone cringe a little, but leave it to Alice to make it a big deal.
Edward continued on, showing her around and then taking her to his room where he spoke of things that reminded you of the old Edward. Your big brother. The one that made you laugh when you were sad, who held you when you were struggling through the hunger, the person who was your rock through it all. Pride swelled through you as you listened even more, finally happy that he found the one.
“Come, let’s give them some privacy.” Carlisle suggested.
A/N: Wow hi. Been a long time since i wrote for this but i found it fitting since Stephanie Meyer is releasing Midnight Sun in August. (Make sure you preorder!) But i am so happy to finally be getting back into writing. Hope you guys like this! ~~~

Lukanette 2020 Exchange piece For @the-alice-of-hearts, enjoy!
Marinette was on a mission, step outside of her comfort zone and again echoed by her technical design professor to be more daring and assertive and bold. She needed to round out her styles and portfolio as much as she could to make herself a more attractive candidate for any applications she submitted or even just expanding her online commissions and bulking her portfolio that way if she chose to start out on her own. It was difficult to just be set in one style and make it big when just starting. Mari figured that she would explore as much as she could before committing to one genre or style, it would keep her far from being burnt out like some of her fellow classmates.
“Hey Nathaniel! Have you seen Juleka?” She called out, walking a bit faster to the redhead who waited for her to join him.
“She was around this morning but I haven’t seen her since. Have you tried calling or texting her?”
“Yup, nothing but silence though. I’m out of touch with everyone’s schedules the more time goes by.”
“Is she complaining she can’t be super Mari and be our everyday ladybug again?” Marc teased, sneaking up and poking the shorter girl’s sides resulting in a squeal.
“Marc!” She smacked a red clad shoulder before they disappeared behind their boyfriend. “Stop doing that!”
“Stop making it so easy?” Nathaniel offered, smirking at Mari’s adorable pout.
“I hate you. I really do. Welp, if Juleka is busy and you’re both too shy to play model and dress up and have proof of it, I guess I need to find a model.”
“I’m pretty much free if you need a mannequin, class ends at three for me this week.” Marc offered kindly, green eyes peeping over Nathaniel’s shoulder.
“Oh wonderful! I found another sample fabric I wanted to try for you!” She did her jump and hip shimmy, ignoring the giggles.
“Only exception being Thursday, that’s date night this week.”
“Fine, have your boyfriend Marc on Thursday, I get your girlfriend Michelle the rest of the week. See you later!” Mari dashed away, giggling as the bright red spots on Marc’s cheeks.
After walking around campus and deciding against searching too far as she still had classes, she was no closer to finding her muse model but it did nothing to dampen her good mood. It was a sign that meant she would just have to explore the in and outs further and stay away from her usual haunts. Instead of using her eyes she decided to let her ears guide her, Marinette glanced around a few times and focused on conversations instead of what people were wearing, hearing the emotions in their voices. With the new mindset, carefully the young designer wandered around and sketched some expressions, new emotions to craft into fabric choices and color schemes to make them come alive as clothing to wear the emotion plain as day. There was a ton of laughter and giggles around her until she got closer to the library. The sound of a guitar drew her in like a sirens song.
Marinette needed a break from all the walking and climbing she had done so far and decided to stop by the library for the few books she had on hold. Skirting around the cliques that hugged the stairs more often than naught, the petite designer made her way into the library. Seeing Max working the check out desk, Marinette bee lined for him, smiling wide enough to crinkle eyes just slightly.
“Marinette, how are you today?” Max greeted, shuffling books around to scan them and write the names on the cards for the reserved items.
“I should have a few books on hold, all fashion related of course, there was one that was checked out but if you could see if it’s been returned?”
“Sure thing, book title, author or DEWY code?”
“There’s several, here’s my card.” Marinette held it out for Max to scan, rocking on heels slightly to a rhythm she could hear every time the door opened.
“Ah yes, you have five reserved and it looks like two have not been checked back on yet. Would you like me to check the return bin?” Max asked, finding the appropriate stack of books and setting them on the counter.
“Yes please, even if we can find one more that makes it easier to study and hopefully pass with flying colors.”
“Fashion has always been a huge part of you Marinette, as long as your heart is in it then you’ll pass with flying colors.” Max smiled at the rare blush on the young woman’s face, “I’ll check the returns for you, be right back.
Marinette breathed deeply to calm her sudden nerves, her friend’s unwavering faith in her abilities always managed to take the designer off guard but she wouldn’t change any of them for the world. While waiting, she filled out the cards for the books in the pile to make Max’s job easier but kept getting distracted by the wonderful music that kept sneaking through.
“I managed to find both luckily, if you could fill these out then you free to chase whatever has you so distracted.” The glint from his glasses made Marinette squeak in embarrassment as being caught.
“Thanks Max!” Quickly she stuffed the books in her backpack and marched at a reasonable pace to the door and only let out the breath she was holding once outside.
Students shuffled to and from the library, stopping to chat quietly or bask in the music for a moment before continuing their way. The solo guitarist was the center of attention, playing a mix of old and new songs. The overall genre seemed to be with the intent to soothe stressed students and teachers alike as they passed by, Marinette could feel herself relaxing and her creative block lifting. Deciding to obey her muse, the slim young woman snagged a bench that was being vacated by a couple who had finished their coffees. Unsure how much time had passed, the designer lost herself to the world of inspiration, completing outlines with notes and vague sketches with the knowledgeable experience telling her to be swift and flesh then out later.
The music had become a soft and sweet ballad, just hovering in the background for anyone to notice or ignore if they were passing by. Marinette took a quick glance at her outlines and notes, polishing little things or rewriting fabric choices, her eyes fell to the musician that she could finally see and she froze. This was exactly what she was looking for, his expression spoke of calm but hid the slight anxiety every time he started a new song. When he suddenly changed tunes and a couple stopped fighting because the music took over made his lips quirk in a faint grin. His clothes were made to blend in, ripped jeans and combat boots topped with a plain Jagged tee and lightweight layered Hoodie. That did absolutely nothing to help hide his hair with the blue tips, was that a tongue ring?! Marinette felt the need to sketch and design and she had to see what color his eyes were.
Swiftly but carefully she put away her supplies and made her way to the musician that was quietly packing away his guitar and removing the tips from his case. The designer caught his attention and when the weight of gaze met hers, Marinette just blurted out what came to mind.
“You’re hot, can I undress you?” With a squeak, she smacked her face with her sketchpad and took a few deep lungs full of air. “I’m sorry! I want your clothes- I just, you were playing and sound sexy- GOOD SOUND! I really like you- YOUR style it’s mysterious but like nice- I really want to undress you- I mean I-!”
“Deep breaths.” His melodic voice cut through her anxiety like a hot knife to butter. “I’m Luka.”
“Ma-ma-Marinette!”
“Nice to meet your Ma-ma-Marinette. You’re an artist too?” He nodded causally to her sketchbook.
“Yes. Fashion designer. Project.” Few more deep breaths. “I need to branch out and try a new style and I usually create women’s clothes. So my professor told me to challenge myself and your music inspired me and when I looked at you, you’re perfect. That is- I mean, if you wouldn’t mind being my model?”
“So do I get to undress myself or is that your job?” Luka teased with a grin, causing Marinette to hide her face again with a squeak. “I have a crazy schedule but I’d love to help.”
“I have time on Tuesdays from two to five, Thursdays from five to seven and Saturdays after the morning rush so more like three or four to eight.” She rattled off, pulling out her planner to his amusement.
“Okay I’ll have to check my schedule, two of my classes are up in the air. How about we exchange phone numbers and then I can text you what’s my schedules going to look like? It changes week to week.”
“Most musicians do it seems, one of my best friends is a DJ and he takes all kinds of gigs so it’s hard to sit down and catch up.” They traded phones and saved their numbers before swapping back. “Some of this we can do via Skype if needed, you have to be comfortable with the design too and just wearing it to help my grade.”
“Seems like you’ve done this before.” Luka stuffed his phone into his pocket and packed away his guitar, shouldering his case.
“Fashion student, too broke for mannequins so I lure in unsuspecting folk with delicious free pastries from the best bakery in town.” She teased with a huge grin.
“Well then, I look forward to those pastries.”
Waving, they went their separate ways and Marinette had a skip in her step that had been missing due to the stress. Texting her other friends that were her usual models but this time with ideas of clothing to compliment the designs she had drafted for Luka. Everyone had a positive response and she had just enough people for a full collection, Marinette was sure to blow this project out of the water.
- - -
Luka stared down at his phone with a smile. As far as first impressions go, he didn’t think negatively of Marinette. It was easy for the musician to recognize the spark of creativity making her blue bells shine and the dark circles the byproduct of sleepless nights from the muse keeping her awake to do her bidding. Her song was the dead giveaway, it was beautiful but unfinished with the crash of crescendos and decrescendos in spots, showing she was afraid to stay loud and bold.
“That had better not be another cat meme.” Juleka muttered, sliding into the booth across from him.
“Nope, I just got asked to undress for a pretty cute girl.”
“What girl wants to see you naked?”
“Not naked, she wants to dress me up.” Luka corrected, waving the waitress over so they could order. “Caramel cappuccino and one hot fudge vanilla shake.”
“Design student or art student?” Luka had no trouble hearing his sisters mumbles, even over the din of the coffee-shop.
“Design student, I guess she felt a good vibe with the music I was playing and she got bit by the creative bug.”
“Not the only one that got bit.” Juleka smiled innocently as the waitress set down their drink orders. “When’s your first fitting?”
“I don’t know, I told Marinette I would text her my schedule for the week once I figure it out.
"Well them, you had better bring me back an eclair and a chocolatine, try the macaroons.” With that cryptic advice, Juleka took her drink and left her brother confused. A ding from his phone had him opening a picture of a very familiar face forwarded from his sister.
Is this the ‘go get em tiger high-five from you?
You hurt her and you’ll answer to your future sister-in-law.
Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Link Start - Lies Stopped!
I’ve been reading a lot of salt fics recently and needed a break from “Not what I expected” so I thought I’d try my hand at writing a one shot salt with one of my all-time Favorite anime’s SAO. Enjoy!
17-year-old Marinette was quiet. Today marked the 3rd anniversary since SAO had been cleared by her big brother Kirito. He wasn't really he brother but they had partied up right at the start of SAO when he realised how young she was and how she hadn't wanted to leave his side when it became clear that it was a death game. She was grateful that she was able to speak enough Japanese at that time to make sure she was understood so they had worked together to make sure she was completely fluent by the time the game cleared.
She had helped him get Asuna out during the ALO mess, had helped out during GGO's death gun incident and had even been visiting during the Ordinal Scale disaster. She had been pulled in to help during the time Kirito had been stuck in RAFT's Alicization project too though she hated that that had even happened to begin with. As far as she was concerned there were things you just didn't mess with. It was when she had come back from Japan after 3 months of physio that she had been given the Ladybug earrings and she thanked Tikki every day for her help getting her body back into shape.
Her attention was brought back to the class when the constant thorn in her side, Lila Rossi, started bragging again. She listened for a moment and couldn't believe what she heard.
“Oh yes, I was part of the Front liners in SAO and was one of the best when it came to clearing an area for people to get through. In fact, I landed most of the killing blows during boss fights!” Lila was saying.
There was a lot of things Mari would let slide but this? This was not one of them. She didn't care if Adrian didn't approve of her actions, nor did she care if this caused an Akuma, she wasn't letting this lie stand. She stood and slammed her hands down on the table getting the whole classes attention.
“Can you stop lying for once in your life?” She growled, her eyes flashing angrily. Adrian looked at her reproachfully but she ignored him.
“I'm not lying, Marinette, you-”
“Yes, you are!” Marinette interrupted her.
“Girl, we know you love gaming but just because Lila happens to have been in the most amazing VR game ever you don't need to accuse her of lying to cover your jealousy!” Typical Ayla, always ready to believe a liar and never someone she called a friend.
“Exactly Marinette, you don't need to be jealous, I could introduce you to the members of the Furyankazan or Sunlight Cats if you want.” Lila simpered and immediately the class started saying how generous she was.
“Min'na ni usowotsuku no o yamete kudasai,” Marinette yelled. (Stop lying to everyone.) This startled the whole class into silence again despite not knowing what Marinette had said.
“How can you even think about lying about being in SAO? Don't you know the trauma that everyone went through? The worry and stress about getting out alive? If you were truly there you would know that the Moonlit Black Cats are all dead! They were killed by a trap room!” Marinette's voice was trembling with suppressed fury as she spoke. “Do you even know what the final boss was or what floor that boss was defeated on was? Do you know how many died in that battle?”
“Well, of course, I know!” Lila seemed sure of herself as she answered. “It was the 100th floor, The final boss was a giant golem and no one died.”
“Wrong on all three counts, Lila.”
“No, I'm not,” Lila stubbornly declared.
“The game was cleared on the 75th floor. 12 people died facing The Skull Reaper and while that was the boss for the 75th floor, the true boss of the game was Heathcliff aka Kayaba Akihiko himself!” Her voice was getting a little shrill by this stage. “Kirito was the one to defeat him in a one on one winner takes all match! So stop talking about something you know nothing about!”
“How do we know you aren't lying?” Max demanded. He was especially interested as he wanted to see if he could meet some of the players of SAO and Lila had said she could organise for him to meet them.
“Ms Bustier, can we link the laptop to the projector and start a skype session?” When Ms Bustier nodded confusedly, Marinette pulled out her phone and confirmed with Yui that the team was logged on in ALO and that Yui would patch the call through.
“Max, the people I'm calling will be speaking in Japanese, so please set it up to have subtitles at the bottom, I would but I want it to be clear that I have not interfered with the programming in any way. It should also show what I'm saying as I won't be speaking French!” Marinette had turned to Max as she spoke. By this time the class had realised she was dead serious about what she was saying and were looking at each other in concern. Max nodded and made sure everything was set up.
The call soon connected and an image of 8 people sitting in what appeared to be a lounge slash viewing area type place was showing on the screen. They were clearly in avatar's as they all looked like some sort of elf or fairy and there was a tiny fairy sitting on a man with black hair's shoulder. Max looked excited but the class looked confused.
Without prompting Max explained, “Those are ALO or ALfheim Online avatars!”
Meanwhile, Marinette had greeted the group with a wave. Once she had the classes attention she introduced everyone on the screen and as their name was said the person would wave. Lila was a little pale but figured she could still make it look like Marinette was lying until Marinette got to the last name.
“And this is Kirigaya Kazuto or Kirito as most of us know him.” Lila blanched even further. When Marinette spoke again she was speaking in Japanese and just as Max had set it up to do, subtitles were coming up on the screen. Marinette gave her SAO friends a brief rundown of what Lila had said as part of her explanation for the sudden call.
“It's alright Irakusa-chan (Nettle) we were planning on giving you a call later to double-check that we were still on for the raid on Saturday,” Kirito said cheerfully. Max's eyes got big at the sound of the name Kirito had called her, the name was just as famous as the rest of the people in the on-screen chat!
“Now on to what this girl was saying I remember every one of the front liners, floor clearers and mapping party members looked like and you are the only person in that room that I recognise.” Asuna said still looking at Marinette's class.
Max turned to Marinette and asked her a few questions he wanted answers to confirm that yes the people they were talking to were SAO survivors and not fakes. Marinette nodded and translated the questions, knowing the class would see the translations written as subtitles on the screen as she spoke. Kirito and the others answered them and soon Max was satisfied. Marinette confirmed the raid for Saturday was still on and that barring any drama she would be there, then signed off.
The class was quiet and Lila looked furious.
“How could you humiliate me like that?” She spat at Marinette.
“What do you mean, Lila? I simply spoke the truth. After all, I lived through SAO so why would I need to lie about it?” Marinette stated calmly. Max nodding along to confirm that she wasn't lying.
“Maybe next time you'll check your facts.” With that last shot, Marinette turned around and walked out of the classroom. She needed to get to a spot to transform should she need to. After-all she could already hear her classes screams as they confronted the liar.

Steve’s heart was racing in his chest as he stepped outside of the bakery. He breathed the cold morning air deeply in through his nose in an attempt to calm himself down. This has never happened to him, not like this, not since..
He breathed out through his mouth and looked around him, glancing into the shop window to find that you had already disappeared back into the kitchen. He blinked for a moment, not knowing what to do. You really got him good, but alas, he managed to snap out of the trance and return to what he was gonna do. He climbed on top of his motorcycle, but couldn’t help himself to wait till he was somewhere else to eat the cookies he bought. He opened the paper wrapping and grabbed one of the cookies, biting slowly into the baked sweet..
Earlier that morning..
It was five am, Steve’s usual time of getting up. It was a matter of routine, and he did it ever since he joined the Avengers. And even though he was on a relaxation trip, he had no intention of shedding the routine that worked so easily for him. To be quite frank, sometimes Steve’s routine was the only thing keeping him sane. It reminded him of his..past days, in the war. It comforted him greatly and so every morning he got out of bed, put on his work out clothes, and did his exercises. Just because he’s a Super Soldier doesn’t mean he shouldn’t keep up his condition, or stop combat training. He was made into a sharp blade and it was his job to keep it that way. He was sad however, that he couldn’t beat Sam or Bucky in his laps, or on the mat, or in weightlifting. Steve figured that sometimes being alone creates more focus, and he went on his way.
He’s been to this city a few times so he knew a decent route to take, it didn’t compare to the one he takes in New York though. Steve liked a good scenery whenever he was jogging, and there was nothing better then NYC. This was not too shabby though. The traffic was unusually quiet and peaceful; only some buses, bikers, people walking on the sidewalk here and there. It was nothing compared to the bubbly booming streets of his home city, he liked this though. He even passed a a few young people jogging, all with headphones in of course. Steve appreciated that the youth were doing something useful, but why block out nature’s music with whatever next hip-hop, rap, dubstep song was on the number one chart’s this time? Steve liked natural ambience; people talking, vehicles driving, animals in the water, tree branches rustling.
When Steve was back at his temporary home - a vacation house owned by Tony - he had already broke out a sweat, his heart was racing and he was simply dying for a hot shower and breakfast. Steve undressed and put the temperature of the shower on hot, and stepped in. This is the second place on earth where Steven Rogers could ‘’relax’’; the hot shower. He could wash all the worries, all the responsibilities, all the stress, all the pain, right off of him. He sighed out deeply as he washed his body with his usual shampoo. He had already shaved so once he stepped out of the shower dressed for the day, he made a straight B-line towards the kitchen.
Steve decided on a light breakfast this morning, he had planned to go into the city and do some sightseeing, some shopping and he didn’t want to skip any chances of tasting the city’s cuisine. Some pancakes with cereal and fruit would suffice. The sun was already out shining brightly and it made his light toned blue blouse look more navy colored.
Chewing away the pancakes he made, Steve checked if the team had left him any messages or updates, but nothing, his inbox was empty. He sighed in a slightly disappointing manner. He didn’t mind the whole relaxing-doing nothing-taking-your-time thing - which was the idea of his team - but there was something about sitting still for too long that made him a bit restless. He puffed out his cheeks and finished the rest of breakfast.
The leather jacket hanging near the door was once of the few things that reminded him of his past, so it was no surprise that Steve brought it with him. He took a bag with him in case he decided to buy some things, you never know what you’ll see once you step foot in an American shopping centre. With the bag in hand, the jacket hugging his broad figure and the keys of his motor cycle pocketed, he left.
Steve was so used to the busy atmosphere of New York that once he stepped outside, he froze out of surprise at the sight of the streets; they were still nearly empty. What time was it? Around 9:30 he believed. By then, his home city would’ve been crawling with cars, taxis, people. Here just a few slow driving cars passed by. Steve saw a total of three buses pass in the last thirty minutes and the most action he saw on the street was a pigeon flying over an old lady and almost hitting her with his poo. He blinked, this city couldn’t be anymore unusual. He shook the odd feeling off of him and hopped onto the motor cycle. The engine roared which secretly made him smirk in excitement like a little boy in a candy store.
For some reason, Steve was craving something sweet. He’d get those urges sometimes to indulge in unhealthy foods. Today it was sweets, but not like licorice or candy. No, something else was needed to satisfy Steve’s yearning for sugar. He looked around, hoping to find something, and out of the corner of his eye he spotted a white-painted window frame. His head turned, his eyes now resting on a corner building that stood out due to it being completely white and made of brick. It was a cute sight, the building had flowers growing near the windows and on the walls. Dainty tables and chairs were spread in front of it. A sign hung above the door, and in big and swishy letters colored with pale yellow and soft pink, it read; ‘’The Mad Batter’’
He chuckled at the reference to Alice in Wonderland. Finally, a reference he did get. He squinted his eyes in doubt, should he go there? So far it was the only place to even have the lights on. Everything else usually opened around elven, which he learned from a kind woman who was walking down the street and saw Steve’s confusion. He road up to the building and parked his motorcycle besides the empty sidewalk.
He pushed the door open gently, which made a little bell ring above of him. He proceeded to step in and look around. From somewhere in the back, perhaps a kitchen, came a rather pleasant sound. Or..no wait, not a sound, no. Steve frowned in focus and tried to listen more clearly. It was someone singing, singing along with the radio perhaps. He knew this song..
’Whisper in my ear, baby..’’
It was from Paul Anka, Steve thought to himself. It was released after he got stuck in the ice, sure, but he discovered it when he resurfaced and went to research all of the music that was released from up to that point, particularly in the jazz genre. He licked his lips, whoever was singing along had some serious talent. He closed his eyes for a quick, sneaky moment, and imagined himself slow dancing to this song.
’Words I want to hear..’’
If only he could see who was singing it. Were they the only employee around? Steve snapped out of his trance and looked around him. If it wasn’t for the emptiness of the store, Steve would’ve been very embarrassed, the building was completely empty except for the two of you.
’Tell me, tell me that you love me too..’’
God, Steve was quite smitten with that voice. He looked around, stood on his toes to see if he could capture a quick peek through the circular plastic window in the door that separated him and this mystery siren. He bit his lip and doubted if he should ring a bell, or knock on the counter. He wanted- no, needed to see you, but he didn't want the singing to end.
Steve Rogers got what he wanted though. The door opened and in walked the baker that serenaded him without them knowing it. Everything for Steve went in slow motion the second that door opened. He stared at bakers face, their hair, their eyes. Oh god, they were one of the cute ones. The baker had some flower on their face, their hair a little messy but non unprofessional. The sun shined perfectly through the windows and reflected onto the counter, making the baker bask in a glorious morning glow. Steve’s breathing slowed down and all he could do was take in the sight before him.
‘’I-I’m very sorry sir, usually no one comes in until 11 and I was so caught up in my routine that I-..’’ Steve had unnoticeably snapped out of the bakers spell and realized that they were apologizing. For what could such a beautiful being apologize for, Steve wondered. He crookedly smiled at the baker trying to somewhat lighten the situation. ‘’It’s okay, really. It happens to the best of us, it’s really no problem.’’ Steve had shook his head and waved off the apology, but not in a mean way. Silence ensued as the baker nodded apologetically towards him. Steve felt himself staring at them again. He felt them staring at him too. He carefully examined the baker’s presence, which was nothing but pleasurable and enjoyable to be around. The silence, the staring, it stayed like that for a little while. Both pair of cheeks grew red but eye contact remained.
‘’Uh- uhm, can I- can I get you anything?’’ The baker awkwardly stumbled on his words, probably due to nerves Steve figured, which only added to how much he had already taken an interest in this person. Steve - as even awkwardly as the baker - fiddled his wallet out of his pocket and threw a quick glance on the glass counter an the chalkboard behind the baker. ‘’Uhm, yeah, what’s your uh, your specialty?’’ Steve could see the baker had to think for a second. He almost admitted it was because of, well, him, but he didn’t want to assume anything. Secretly though, Steve knew the baker was in the same boat as he was. The baker walked over to the edge of the counter and explained that yesterday’s specialty - a French orange tart with whipped cream - was still available, and that today’s specialty, an apple pie, was being made currently. Oof, apple pie sounded very attractive to him right now, but it would be a ready later. Of course he could just wait here, but that just seemed awkward.
Steve licked his lips in anticipation to make a decision, his eye jumped across the different rows of baked goods and sweets. ‘’I can also- uhm, put down your name and reserve a piece of apple pie for you if you’d like.’’ A warm feeling was triggered in the middle of Steve chest and he felt his eyebrows raise in surprise. He could come back here a second time, talk to the baker again, maybe even dare we say... make a move?
‘’Uh- yes. Yeah, that would be great, thanks.’’ But that didn't still his current hunger though, he needed something small to eat enough space will be left for the pie. His orbs flew over the rows again and they landed on a single row of cookies. Bingo. ‘’In the mean time I think I’ll just get two of those..chocolate chip cookies, please.’’ The baker began wrapping them up, opening the counter and grabbing a notepad in lighting speed. He laid the cookies onto the counter, Steve grabbed a five dollar bill, already knowing it’ll be too much but the baker could keep the change. They blushed at the small sentiment and put the bill into the register, closing it after.
Steve grabbed onto the cookies and turned around, making way for the door but he was cut off by the baker’s voice. ‘’Wait, sir!’’ Did he forgot to give through his name? Oh god, way to make an impression, Rogers. Steve turned to the baker halfway. ‘’I need your name for the- the apple pie.’’ He chuckled and walked back to the counter, to them. His eyes immediately went back to theirs, a somewhat equally romantic and amazed look plastered on his face. ‘’Of course, my apologies, it’s uh..’’ Steve ran his tongue across his lips, the nerves were getting to him. ‘’My name’s Steve. Steve Rogers.’’ He saw how the baker wrote down his name and tore the piece off the notepad. Maybe later today they could exchange phone numbers. Just maybe. ‘’I’ll come back later today for the piece, okay?’’ He ensured the baker and they nodded. Steve nodded back and finally made his way to the door once again.
But it wasn’t time just yet. God, could the tension get any higher? ‘’Steve.’’ The baker called out. He turned his body halfway, his head turned so he looked over his shoulders to them. ‘’I’m Y/N.’’ Steve felt himself smile at hearing their name. ‘’Gotcha, so you’re not just a pretty face?’’ He said the words before he even knew what he was saying, and he damned himself from saying it. Was it too straightforward? Too extra? He hoped he didn’t ruin it. Y/N’s reaction was priceless though. A red glow on their cheeks accompanied by a shy look to the ground. Steve smiled and quickly slipped out of the shop, already waiting impatiently for later today..
