Shocked Part 1/2
“And thats when Alice showed up! She wasn’t too happy with the mess of her flower garden but-“
Henry tuned out the toon’s chattering as he walked down the halls. They’d just gotten past the music department a few..hours ago by his guess. His watch had long stopped functioning, leaving him to guess blindly based off of hours and gut instinct. It felt like it would be night soon, but the concussion from his first fall combined with the lack of anything but dim or nonexistent light could be steering him wrong.
He only noticed Bendy’s silence when he felt the paper shift a minuscule amount in his grip. When he turned his attention back to the toon, he found him to be sitting at the edge of his little platform, legs swinging back and forth beneath him, synced with his tail’s metronome like swaying. The new leg seemed to be well adjusting, if a bit stiff.
“Something the matter Bend?”
The toon blinked up at him, starting a bit.
“Oh- I uh. I thought ya looked real disinterested in my story so-“
Henry cut in before the toon had a chance to continue.
“Sorry about that pal. I’ve just..been thinking.”
“Oh? Penny for your thoughts?”
Henry shook his head with a soft smirk.
“Where are you gonna get a penny?”
The toon rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
“Hmm. Now ain’t that a pickle to make..cents of.”
Henry groaned goodnaturedly, fighting the bubble of laughter in his chest.
“Bendy no.”
“Bendy yes.”
The two continued this tit for tat banter, unaware of the watching eyes from the ink.
——
Their meeting with Alice had been...rocky. The whole thing had left the duo shaken but determined when she offered them a chance at freedom. Both had their doubts of her promise, but what choice was there?
And soon enough, they were on their way to collect hearts for the angel, the final task.
“Hey Henry.”
He looked at the paper his toon pal resided in as his hearing picked up the quiet whisper. They had to be careful. Aside from the projectionist making his rounds, who knew what could be lurking in the ink. It was up to Henry’s knees for Heaven’s sake.
“Mm?”
The animator gave his friend an answering hum in response, peeking around the corner to look towards the retreating form of the roaming monster.
“There’s alot of ink here..We should split up.”
Henry barely restrained himself to a whispered exclamation.
“What?!”
“Shh!!”
The pair fell silent, listening intently for a change in pattern. After a moment, they relaxed and returned to their discussion.
“Im not letting you go on your own Bendy.”
“But-“
“But nothing I don’t want-“
“Henry!”
The warning was a moment too late as the blinding light of the projectionist settled upon the pair.
“RUN HENRY!”
The animator was already moving as fast as he could, but to little success. Where the ink slowed him, it seemed to give their pursuer an unfair advantage.
Only a few feet from the staircase leading out of the ink. Then, as his foot moved to the first step, he felt the monster grab his shirt collar and yank.
Man and Monster both stumbled backwards into the ink, Bendy slipping from his dear friend’s grip with a startled yell.
The projectionist managed to get as far as preparing himself to strike Henry’s ribcage when a large figure sprung between them from where the page had fallen. Unfortunately for both parties involved, Bendy was caught inbetween the attack and it’s proper mark.
As the projectionist’s hand slammed into the depths of the demon’s chest, the toon reacted on impulse, slamming a large hand into the face of his foe, realizing his mistake a moment too late when the creature went flying across the room, his page in it’s grip.
Immediately the large form crumbled back into the ink like a broken water balloon.
Henry stood in shock for a moment before quickly hurrying towards his fallen friend.
Grabbing onto the mangled head of the sinking projectionist, he pulled him out just enough to reach the hand where his friend resided. With a desperate pull, he tore the paper out of the beast’s dead grip, wincing as the lower corner came off. But he couldn’t waste time. He quickly left the area, running down the hallway to the nearest room, the sodden and silent page in hand.
The door was locked behind him as he hurried towards a desk, setting the page flat and peering down, a sigh of relief escaping him as he saw the intact figure of his toon companion.
“Gave me a scare back there...”
No response.
“Bend..?”
