I’ll be so real, this was the first notif I saw when I woke up and I was like “what did I accidentally say to justify a weight gain fetishism ask on this god fearing Tuesday morning”
Anyways, that’s so not what you meant.
My landoscar tattoo yes yes!!! I can’t find the post where I talked about it last, but I have their numbers worked into my patchwork sleeve :) specifically done in their Suzuka 2024 calligraphy font:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lando is on my forearm (4 arm,,,, get it,,,) and Oscar is on my inner bicep!
Ramble below:
I know there’s always discussion about getting tattoos associated with people/bands/brands, and I understand people who stay away from it. But for me, I view tattoos as a personal scrapbook, a collection of periods of time that matter(ed) to me.
2024 had the potential to be one of the worst years of my life; my health had gotten scary, I was worn down by medical appointments, I’d been cheated on by my long term ex-gf, and I was tired. Formula 1 — the racing, the writing, and the amazing friends I’ve made from it — got me through a lot of it. I had my first anxiety attack during a medical procedure, and the way I forced myself to calm down was by daydreaming about fic ideas; when I had a breakdown about the existentialism of being chronically ill, I watched videos of lando being an idiot until I was laughing again. Lima and Latte emotionally cradled me from across the ocean when I was beaten down, they lifted me up and listened to me and made me feel loved when I could have so easily felt lonely.
So yeah it’s a landoscar tattoo!! But it’s also lowkey kinda about how yall changed my life! Gross! Sappy!

David Duchovny’s HOHW Seattle Concert Review (Fourth in a series)
David Duchovny's HOHW Seattle Concert Review (Fourth in a series)
I attended David Duchovny's book discussion and concert in Seattle and have written a series of blogs about the events.  This blog is strictly about the concert experience with some opinions in general about his music.
David opened with the high energy "3000."  Truthfully it was hard to concentrate at first on the music.  Even though I had met and interacted with the man earlier (see other blogs for more information), the first few minutes of the concert I was overwhelmed with the knowledge of how close I was to this man in what was clearly going to be a physical performance.  He was sweating immediately and I noticed a sweat bead fall from his forehead to the ground.  I noticed the way his arms flexed and the soft brown hair on the arms.  I have been in the front row for many of my favorite song writers / performers, but David is the only musician/ song writer with whom  I am, also, so attracted to his physical appearance.  So at first I simply had to allow myself the pleasure of watching him.
By the end of "3000" I could begin to enjoy his voice and his awesome band.  I am especially fond of Pat McCusker (guitarist) and Sebastian Modak (drummer) and will refer to them as Pat and Seb going forward.  HOHW is a break up album.  "3000" is a song David wrote about the distance "so short, so far" from his children when he lived across Central Park from them. "3000" is a song that can transcend love to anytime people are seperated more from differences than distances.  Did I just describe America?  "If we survive this civil war, we will discover what's worth fighting for."
David proceeded with a slower second song which is one of the most beloved off the album "Let It Rain."  People who know me know that during concerts I will often close my eyes and let myself be completely absorb into the sound; lost to the moment.  I wondered if I would do that with David given how much I enjoy the sensation of looking at the man.  Sure enough I quickly found myself grooving and about to close my eyes when something happened that changed that moment for me and for the rest of the concert I never thought about closing my eyes to focus completely on the music.  A young woman who I had been conversing with earlier asked me if  I would trade my front row place for her for her favorite song.  I have been a deadhead and have seen a crowd split like the red sea when a woman with a week old baby said "I want to be able to tell her she was in the front row for this song during her first concert experience."  Part of the allure for me of the "Duchovniac" experience is a similar feeling of community among David's fans.  Of course, I was going to let this young woman, who was trying to decide what lyrics to get tattooed on her body, into the front row for her favorite song.  She then proceeded to take off her bra, threw it on stage and stood for an extended period of time with her breasts exposed.  While I was annoyed in the moment, David had said that the reason he enjoys touring is the unique experience between artist and audience that is specific to the place and time.  This event so early in the concert experience clearly relayed the mood of the crowd.  We were 500 packed in like sardines who were all in for the experience- all there for love of the man- and willing to bare it all for tonight.
David introduced "Stay on the Train".  David had said he does not write political music and then said that he could see how these lyrics could be about politics of today.  Later I will write about a song I believe has more overtly political lyrics.  I find "Stay on the Train" a hard song to hear.  David has said his music is his most true expression of himself, that he likes trying to make his own experiences more universal and that this song was written for his daughter.  I believe David's music "bleeds" his pain.  The line "wave daddy goodbye" just is too much for me.  It makes me want to wrap my arms around both father and daughter.  I am curioius about the imagery which is used both in this song and in his novel, "Bucking Fucking Dent" with Ted saying he often thought about walking off the train and finding another family.  Marty thanks him for staying in one of the more moving scenes in the book.
David then sang two new songs: "Roman Coin" and "Stranger in the Sacred Heart".  My criticism of the concert is that the band sometimes drowned out David's voice and, unfortunately, they did so in these songs whose lyrics  were unfamiliar.  For me this was the part of the concert which somewhat failed.  The same thing was true about the song: "Rain Song" but since everyone knew the lyrics it was still an enjoyable part of the concert.  These were the only three songs in which this occurred.
My friend, Cathy, and I in discussing the album prior to the concert had agreed that "Passenger" is our least favorite song.  If you judge an album by its worst song, then the album is a masterpiece because the song is beautiful.  For me it is a fine stand alone song, but it incongruous on the album.  It seems to be about a different lost love.  The pain is not as strong and at times the song is celebratory of always carrying a lost love with you.  Someone yelled out "Gillian."  I am almost always annoyed when in the moments of David's music people can only think of X-Files, but I had told Cathy earlier that I like "Passenger" more when I think of it as a Mulder singing it about Scully song.  Then the line "I stand witness to a crazy costume ball.  Lonely witness to the beauty of it all" resonates more completely.  Of course, there is also a lot of imagery in Californication of Hank looking over at the passenger seat of the car and "seeing" Karen or Becca.  The song was truly beautiful live and while I would trade it in a moment for one of the tours later renditions (three nights in a damn row) of a song I had asked about in the QA "Lately Its Always December", I have a new fondness for "Passenger" having heard it live.
David coughed a little through "Things".  While his voice struggles, his dance movements, grinding pelvis, was beautiful. He said at one point during the song when he was struggling "I will get there" and he did, but I loved the audience response.  I am a firm believer that when you go to see a band or an artist you love and they struggle with a song, you love them through it.  If you choose not to, you deserve whatever type of bad performance you get for the remainder of the show.  An artist who has been "loved" through a bad performance of a song is going to deliver the rest of t"he night and I actually consider this song a turn-around song in terms of taking the next few songs to a transcendant level.
"Unsaid, Unsung" is my favorite song off the album.  It is the angry song and there is plenty of anger to go around. Yes, anger at the woman he is leaving behind.  Anger certainly at himself; his demons and his monsters.  Anger at years of therapy which had in some respect did more harm than good.  "Killing off forests to save the trees."  I love it because it stands in perfect counterpoint to the title track of the album.  The title track speaks of "I will stand here forever, I will outwait your disdain, I said I love you forever, Come Hell or Hell Water."  It is a beautiful romantic notion which is not sustainable or healthy over time.  "I'll just eat my words and move on." might not be as beautifully romantic, but for those of us who have been through a divorce where you were not the person who wanted the divorce, it is the sentiment you must arrive to at some point to survive.
The version of "Unsaid, Unsung" in Seattle was of a different energy and different level than any I have seen before.  Luckily there is a part of it  "phoned" and I have compared it with the later version in the tour; including the version at Stone Pony which some has argued was David's best over-all performance of the tour.  I am not sure why the version in Seattle was so different, but the audience response was strong and immediate.  For some reason David ended this version with singing/ yelling the line "I said I'm done" and then he was done.  He was bending down inches from my face when he yelled/ sung this line.  He then made his face and eyes go eerily cold.  He made intentional and deliberate eye contact with several women in back of us while the music continued.  I am very short and remember his body looming over me.  I looked up at his face begging with my head movements to get some of the eye contact he was so willingly granting women in back of me.  He bent down to Cathy and I then.  He made eye contact with us.  He put his hands in front of his face as if walling himself off- putting up a barrier to keep emotion or love from reentering his heart and then backed away while maintaining eye contact.  I have scoured videos of this song since then to see this move.  I cannot find it.  I am glad Cathy experienced it too or I would think I had imagined it.  The single best concert moment I have had in forty years of attending concerts and the fact that it is not a "routine" move for him is someting I hold dear.  I believe that 500 people that night believed they had a moment with David.  He reached several times over my head to touch hands with women in back of me, engaged in conversations with people in the back, stretched his body against the wall to touch the hands of people on the upper levels, did heart symbols to those people.  He is a master at this.  My "moment" was the moment in "Unsaid, Unsung".  I am haunted by it in the most pleasant of ways.
When I saw the bongos on stage I knew we were going to get a "When the time comes" and while David sang this song with emotion and feeling I was going to watch Seb for this song.  I had promised myself I would not let my overwhelming physical attraction to David keep me from focusing some attention on his terrific band.  The live version of this song is better than the album version.  This is largely due to the percussion piece.  Seb did not disappoint.  Because of my focus on him I was able to see a moment when he was done with a bongo piece where he looked specifically pleased with himself and he deserved to be.  He looked up and we made eye contact.  I hope he knows how appreciative I was.  I had intentionally, by the way, selected a point a little off center so I could see Pat wail on that guitar through-out the night.  We were fortunate that he stepped directly in front of us several times a night to play.  When I clapped I tried to clap around, to show the appreciation.  David is not a natural singer.  He is not a great musician.  He is a great lyricist and song writer.  His musical expression is only possible because of the great band in back of him.  We are a fanatic bunch of David fans- those of us who love his music.  I hope the band knows we love them for their part in his expression.
"Half-Life" is currently my favorite song on the yet to be released second album.  It is a song about what happens when you lived half of your life with a spouse, a soulmate, a true love and then you seperate.  I love the line "I am closer to you, then who I used to be."  That line does exactly what poetry is supposed to- it expresses emotions and sentiments beyond the actual words.  It says - I have loved you as much as I love myself, I don't know who I am without you, you have changed me for ever and I can never go back to who I was.  But unconditional love dies and fossilizes.  "I was lost..."  I had the fortune to hear it once during sound check and the second time during the concert. So amazingly beautiful.
"Every Third Thought" is another beautiful song about lost love.  It is a refrain taken from Shakespeare, but instead of being about death it is about love in David Duchovny's universe.
I have a love/ hate relationship with "Positively Madison Avenue."  I am a Dylan fanatic and this is a song which laments Dylan doing a car commercial.  It was the first Duchovny song I heard.  When I first heard it I was like "Fuck you, Duchovny".  The man deserves to make some money.  Then I heard an interview where David said "I'm not trying to be one of the Dylan goes electric folks." I heard the rest of the album and realized that David is a true Dylan fan as I am myself.  There are multiple Dylan references through out the album.  In this song Dylan is an image for the world turned commerical.  It is not an attack on Dylan.  What I love about this song is the Dylan worthy social commentary lyrics.
LAWYERS, CRITICS, BLOGGERS, VULTURES, PICK THEIR PERCENTAGE OFF THE CARCASS OF THE CULTURE IN ROME WE FIDDLE, AS CORPORATIONS PULL OUT TO OTHER NATIONS, GIVE MOTHER EARTH A FACIAL ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL (MORE OR LESS)             FREE TO NEGOTIATE A SEQUEL (GOD BLESS)
David says he doesn't want to write politicial songs and I want the man to write what ever he is inspired to write, but I am convinced that he could write some lyrics we need right now if he wanted to.  I hold my breathe in contemplation of such a thing, but much as I love whatever Dylan wants to do (two albums of Sinatra covers, really?), I will love David's non-political music.  (Thank God we still have Neil Young)
What I hate about "Positively Madison Avenue" is that David disses Mulder in it.  "Chasing Spooks on Fox I made my bones."  Don't compare David's greatest acting accomplishment to Dylan's car commercial.  Compare Mulder to "Blood on the Tracks" or "Blonde on Blonde".  This blog is already too long for me to digress on why portraying the character of Mulder must have been so difficult or why I think it is David's greatest work (and I can wax poetic about a lot of David's acting), but it pains me to think David might not appreciate the accomplishment as much as he should.  Besides, David has plenty of pure commercial endeavors- why not talk about the Saks Fifth Avenue catalog or the London Fog Campaign.  So i prefer a rewrite "Save me a place on the boat, Double D is selling coats."
In any case, the rendition of this song I love more than hate was phenomenal and David was once again by me and bending down when he sang "a beleagured Pete Seger got to hitch his way to heaven."  I heard in a later QA during the tour David had an extended conversation with a fan about this song and marketing in artistic endeavors.  I wish I had heard that.  (sigh)
Then he was gone for a moment.  He came back for the encore "Hell or HighWater" which I had trouble concentrating on.  The show seemed over so quickly and I wanted to simply watch him for a minute while I could.  I saw the pink pussy hat in his pocket.  I knew "The Weight" was on the encore list and while I know it was the title track he was singing, I just could not be as in the moment as I might have wanted in terms of the music.  I took the moment to completely lose myself in his multiple physical attributes.
"The Weight" was a show highlight.  First of all- its "The Weight."  Arguably one of the top ten rock and roll songs ever written.  Secondly, David talks about the kind of love within the song and then puts on, with his band, the pink pussy hats.  Third, David had told a story about baby sitting Keaton Simons, the opening act, and Keaton came on stage to sing with him.  During the song when center stage the love between them is a think of exceptional beauty.  In fact, this song could very easily be the "loving the band" song.  David is well aware that no one is going to look at anyone but him when he is on stage.  So in this song, he goes to each band member while they sing and "loves them."  He grinds his pelvis into Pat - don't know how Pat feels about it, but women have told me they have imagined being Pat at this moment, so...yeah, there's that.  He lays his head on band members shoulders.  He dances, skips, makes goofy movement.  There is nothing remotely rock star or cool about this performance.  Yet the love floats around the stage, jumps off to the audience, back on stage and it all flows from the artist himself who has inspired so many that night already, David Duchovny.
"Sweet Jane" is the "loving the audience" song.  He jumps off to dance with  the audience.  I can feel the air displacement around me as women rush to be able to dance with him.  I do not move.  Having heard so much now about the experience of individual pictures and hugs at other VIP experiences and from women who were part of the audience dances with him, I regret slightly not feeling his back muscles or his biceps.  Ok I regret it a lot.  I want a Duchovny hug, but watching this dance was so enjoyable.  After decades of excessive fandom, he is an expert at keeping the most private of his body parts protected, but his ass is stuck out, the arms and back are fair game.  I have a picture framed in my head of his butt stuck out in a particular way, his hands by his face, his eyes closed, mid-wiggle down with women all reaching in with one hand to touch him in mid -wiggle down, and this delightful and beautiful look of joy on his face.  Such an adorable puppy.  I hope he never gets his audience sizes too big, he never gets afraid to jump in the audience, he is never injured, he always has and can give his fans this contact.  Maybe someday I will get a hug.
It is a couple of weeks as I write this since the concert.  Life has been kind of tough in the last two weeks.  I thought I would write this quicker, but real life took precedence. (I have one more blog in this series yet to write).  I can safely say though that with all the stark realism of my daily life, the escapism of this week-end in Seattle sustains me. (along with the love of a great friend).  Life is strange and currently I feel like one of life's losers, but, you've got to love the losers.  God Bless David Fucking Duchovny!
