Soul Stones: Long Distance
“It feels like it’s been forever since you’ve held me in your arms, and your trip is only halfway over. Honestly, I have no idea how people in long distance relationships can stand it.” The texts and calls helped alleviate some of the longing, but it was still rough knowing that Oliver was hours and hours away. Oliver wasn’t out to his parents, so when they told him about their plan to send him on vacation to Singapore for an entire month, he couldn’t really protest without raising suspicion. They were only going to pay for his ticket, and there was no way I’d be able to afford the trip on my own.
I placed my boyfriend on speakerphone so that I could scroll Instagram while we spoke. “At least everything is going fine over on my end. Same old boring life. My work gets done, my boss doesn’t hate me... could be worse. What about you, how’s your trip? If it’s even as half as good as these photos, it must be sweet.”
“Heh, yeah... it’s so gorgeous out here, Brian. Like, part of me says that I should be lying to you so that you don’t feel bad that you’re missing out, but... dude, we’ve gotta come back here later. I even managed to make a few friends with some guys who are also on vacation.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh, you managed, did you? Yeah, I’m sure it was so hard for the extroverted socialite to make friends.”
“Yeah, yeah, shut up...” he said, in that voice he uses when he knows I’m right. I could picture his blushing, and it was just entirely too cute. “But like, there wasn’t a guarantee there would be people my age here. I’m gonna count it as a win. Besides, you would not BELIEVE some of the people I’ve met. Like, this guy, Alfie? He’s the one I’ve tagged in a few of my other photos, and... well, I don’t want to ruin the surprise I mailed you.”
It was my turn to start blushing. “Ollie! You didn’t have to do that, what the heck? You’re on vacation, you’re supposed to be enjoying yourself! You don’t need to send me anything.”
“Well too bad, I sent it to you anyway.” Oliver had quickly shifted back to his normal smug self, which I had to admit was part of his charm. “Speaking of which-- have you checked your mail today? The tracking slip says it should have arrived by now. I think it’s small enough that they were able to put it in your mailbox.”
Sure enough, there was a small bubble-wrapped envelop waiting for me in my mailbox. Inside was a brown, marbled stone covered with intricate carved runes. “Oliver, it’s beautiful. What’s the story behind it? I didn’t expect Singapore to be known for its--”

There was a sudden lurch, and I suddenly found myself staring into the face of Oliver’s friend. That would have been weird enough, but it was clearly a mirror that I was staring at.
“It’s a body swapping stone,” Oliver said, coming up behind me and resting his hand on my shoulder. “Well, a pair of swapping stones. I didn’t believe it either, until Alfie showed me how they worked. It was his idea, obviously. He doesn’t need them anymore, and so he gifted them to me when I told him about our long distance situation. I figure you and Alfie can swap bodies Friday night, swap back sometime Sunday afternoon, and we can just... do that for a few weeks until the trip is over. And I’ll be taking mine home with me at the end of the trip, in case we ever need them again.”
I found myself running my hands along the ridges and curves of my new skin-- surprisingly soft new skin, I had to admit. “And Alfie is... fine with this? I mean, it sounds like swapping bodies every week was his idea, but like... He knows what we’re going to be doing to his body, right?”
“Of course, Brian. As long as I have permission to do the same in yours,” said the voice over the phone. I recognized it as the sound of my voice-- or, my body’s voice, I suppose-- though hearing from the outside was incredibly weird. It made sense that he’d be on the line, it wasn’t like I had hung up on him. “Oliver volunteered your body for me to use, but it’s not cool of me do to anything unless you tell me it’s okay.”
I hadn’t even considered that, to be honest. Granted, I was the only person who didn’t know that body swapping was possible a few minutes ago. “Yeah, of course, dude. Just, you know... use a condom, don’t drive my car if you’re hammered, that sort of thing. And I guess I’d rather you drive downtown if you’re looking for a random hookup, just so that you don’t run into anyone I know. Outside of that... good grief, Alfie. You’re doing us a huge favor! I can’t believe you’re just giving us these things.”
“Hey, I’m just glad someone is able to get good use out of those things,” he said. “I haven’t used them in several months, and... well, I don’t really need them anymore. I bought them for cheap, so it’s whatever. Just... do me a solid, and give them away if you see someone who could use ‘em.”

“Yeah, I think we can manage that,” Oliver said, looking over at my face. Now that the shock had worn off, I was already starting to get horny-- clearly he was feeling the same way. “Thanks again, Alfie, talk to you later!” He hung up, tossed his phone onto a nearby bed, and swept me up into his arms. If this is what our long distance relationship will look like? I think we can manage.

Omg that’s so hot 🤤 if y’all can’t tell, I love men secretly pining and lusting after unknowing female readers. ESPECIALLY if they are shy, nerdy, and or curvy/thicc girls. So Inhad fun with this
Girl Next Door (Shinsou x Black Reader)
Quirkless AU

(Art by: @raikiriart)
Shinsou kept his blinds opened when he gamed. He always joked with his viewers that it was for the natural lighting.
“Y’all know the sun really brings out the purple in my eyes.” He’d smirk, and that was that.
They didn’t need to know the real reason he kept them open. His violet eyes flitted towards the window again as he mindlessly navigated the game. That’s when he saw you walking into the complex.
“Uhh, alright guys, I think that’s about it for today. I’ll be back on tonight for our midnight stream,” his eyes flicked over to the window again. You were checking the mailbox. Perfect. “Until next time, later guys.”
Shinsou quickly shut off his computer and threw on a pair of shoes before rushing down the stairs.
“Hey there bookworm.” Shinsou grinned as he approached you.
As soon as you turned and flashed him your little brace face smile, he felt an arrow pierce his heart. God you were adorable. With your colorful braces and glasses and pretty chocolate dimples.
“Hey yourself, e-boy.” You replied.
“Get anything interesting?” Shinsou nodded at your stack of mail as he opened his own mailbox.
“A new book.”
“Of course,” he shot you a smirk.
“Of course,” you giggled.
“Well, hey, that’s what makes you my little book worm.” He teased.
You glanced away your shy little dimpled smile making his heart flutter.
“Well, I better get upstairs,” you said, “I have studying to do.”
“Alright then,” Shinsou’s heart sank a bit at the thought of losing time with you. “Mind if I walk up with you?”
“Sure!”
Shinsou let you lead the way.
You two were neighbors and had come to be good friends; often walking up to your apartments together. So you thought nothing of it when he took up space behind you. Not even feeling the predatory gaze on your ass.
Shinsou’s friendly face fell into an almost hungry gaze as you strutted in front of him. There was something about your cute face juxtaposed with your stacked curves that drove him crazy. Your round ass bounced with every step as you led the way up the stairs. He tucked his hands in the pockets of his joggers and stroked the bulge growing in his pants as your ass wiggled.
Stop being such a creep man.
He chastised himself as you bounced up the stairs, but fuck he couldn’t help it.
All he could imagine was how loud he could make your soft little voice scream for him while he pounded into your thick ass from the back or watched your bouncy tits jiggle in his face.
“Hey, y/n,” Shinsou piped up before he could stop himself.
“Yeah?” You cocked your head.
Cutie.
“I was wondering if you wanted to come over and order take out. We can just watch a movie or somethin’..or not! I don’t want you to think I’m tryna Netflix and chill or something!” Even though he totally was.
You felt your face burn. In all the time you and Shinsou had been neighbors, you had always had a crush on him, but never knew how to express it. You honestly never expected anything more than friendly mailbox banter; so getting invited to his house was a pleasant surprise to say the least.
“O-oh, um—Sure!”
“Really? Ahh, I have to stream tonight at midnight, but how bout eight?”
Your cheeks burned as you nodded. “Sounds good.”
“Alright, I now have an hour to make this place look presentable.” Shinsou gazed around his messy bachelor pad.
He managed to make his place decent and changed from his joggers into jeans and a t-shirt. He even combed his messy purple locks a bit. He wanted to look good for you guys’ first hang out session. After all, he couldn’t believe you had actually agreed to hang out with him. Shinsou had been crushing on you for months, but he didn’t think he was actually good enough for you. You were smart and studious and hard working and he was pretty sure you only viewed him as a lazy gamer guy.
That was why he had to impress you. This was his first shot to make a real impression and maybe score a real date with you.
He wondered how you would wear your hair and makeup. If he’d finally get to see those curves of yours hugged in a dress. He groaned aloud, thinking about running his fingers over your body.
“Fuck...” he muttered, feeling his dick flex at the thought of your thick chocolate body writhing under his.
Shinsou stroked himself through his jeans growing harder as his thoughts about you ran wild.
I can’t act like this when she’s around. I’ll scare her off for sure.
Ok. He had twenty minutes. He could just rub one out, right? That way when you got there he wouldn’t be thinking about throwing you on the kitchen table and deep dicking you until you were a groaning mess.
You knocked at Shinsou’s front door. You stepped back and bounced on your toes a bit.
When he opened the door, you felt your heart quicken. He looked so handsome. You weren’t used to seeing him in jeans and you could see how well sculpted his chest was through his shirt.
“Hey, bookworm.” He smiled.
“Hi, you.” You replied.
“Come on in.”
As soon as Shinsou ushered you inside you were intrigued by all the cool super hero posters and pictures of friends on the family.
“DC guy, huh?” You smirked at him as you observed his DC posters.
“For the most part,” Shinsou replied, coming up to your side. “I like the world building more in DC; feels a bit more real to me than Marvel. I don’t know why, but I have to admit I like Marvel’s villains more.”
“Hmm. I’m the opposite.”
Shinsou’s brow quirked as he grinned down at you.
“Oh yeah?”
You nod, shrugging. “I just think marvel has cooler, more powerful heroes and I like the world building in marvel. But I think DC has cooler villains and I like the grimmer grittier vibe.”
“Hmmm, let me find out my bookworm is a comic buff.”
Your heart fluttered again at the possessive nickname, but you mask it with a grin. “Try me.”
By the time the pizza arrives you and Shinsou are deep in your conversation about movies, comics, books, and your favorite shows.
Shinsou proudly shows you his custom PC and set up and swells with pride at how you gush over his build.
He loves hearing about your studies and theories and you guys bounce ideas off of each other for hours.
Before you both know it, it’s eleven o’clock.
“I’m so sorry, Shin. I didn’t mean to hold you up.”
“Trust me, y/n, if it wasn’t for that alarm I wouldn’t have even noticed the time. This has been really fun.”
The grin that lit up your face made your dark eyes sparkle and Shinsou desperately wanted to kiss you.
“Yeah. It was fun. I’m really glad we did this.”
“Yeah, totally. We should...do it again sometime. Maybe we can go out for dinner next weekend?” He offered, carefully.
You glanced away, sweetly, composing yourself before meeting his eyes again with a shy nod.
“I’d like that a lot.”
“Cool,” Shinsou grinned, scratching the back of his neck as a blush burned on his cheeks. Guess I’ll hop over next door and pick you up huh?” He chuckled.
“Sure.” You giggled back. “Well...night, Shin, have fun on your stream.”
“Night, y/n.” He smiled back.
As soon as you were out the door, Shinsou wanted to whoop and holler. Holy shit! He couldn’t believe he’d finally did it! Not only did he ask you to hang out, he scored an actual date with you!
Not only that, he finally got to know you beyond just a few words, and you were totally cool!
Knowing how cool and interesting you are coupled with your sweet, shy nature just made you more attractive to him.
He couldn’t help being even more turned on. You were like the perfect girl. Shy and sweet and nerdy and cool and Thicc as fuck.
He couldn’t wait to get to know you better in more ways than one...
He felt himself stirring once again and sighed, palming himself through his jeans.
“Dammit,” he muttered, eyes fluttering shut in frustration. “I’ve really gotta stop working myself up over you, bookworm.”
Alright. He had an hour. He could take care of his ‘little problem’ before he started his stream. He would be thinking of you riding his face the whole time.

Reap What You Sow:
Masterlist | Rules | Peaky Prompts
Trigger Warnings: Angst, Swearing, Sight Mentions of Blood/Gore, Fluff.
Word Count: 3,273
Characters: Thomas Shelby x Female!Reader
Requested: Yes
Requested by: Anon, you can find it here.
Summary: Y/N is accused of stealing a check from the company, resulting in her being fired. But only after a tense situation, does her boss and longtime crush Thomas find out the truth.
It was nearing midnight as Y/N walked through the shop, her heels clicking on the uneven wooden floors as Linda finished the nights paperwork, a nervous look on her face as she shuffled them away.
Y/N paid no mind as she sat down at her desk near Thomas’ office. Tapping her pen nervously as she glanced at her wristwatch. They were supposed to be here by now. All of the Shelby brothers were supposed to be shouting and running through the shops still high on their victory against one of the other gangs in town. They were supposed to be sighing in relief and pouring the boys drinks, but only silence ensued as Linda crept towards the company safe which she’d sneakily found the combination to while going through Y/N’s desk one night. With a quick movement, she unlocked the heavy door, yanking it open and rifling through the stack of blank checks and tearing off a slip.
“Are you alright Linda? Do you need help?” Y/N asked as she saw her walk quickly back to her seat.
“I’m fine, just had to move around the shop a bit. Nerves right?” She said while fiddling with the slip of paper hidden in her hand, out of sight from her curious coworker.
“Yeah, I understand. They should be back by now. I don’t know where they are, but I’m sure Arthur will go straight to you when he arrives though.” She said with a small smile.
Linda nodded and quickly wrote the check out, shoving it in her purse before giving Y/N a small stack of papers.
“I’m going to run a letter to the mail, I’ll be back.” She said, walking out the door before Y/N could speak.
“Weird.” She mumbled to herself as she went back to going through the papers Linda handed her, all ones Thomas needed to sign-off on in the morning.
The cold air crept through Linda’s dress as she walked with her arms clutched around her to keep warm, the mailbox just in her sights as she remembered what she had to do.
“I’ll pay you if you keep quite about us alright love? It’ll only upset Arthur if he finds out. It could ruin our chances of being together if he’s not dealt with.” She’d said to her lover the night before Thomas’ plan went into effect. Tonight they were planning to take down a troublesome gang that strolled into town, but they were none the wiser to who she’d been fooling around with right under Arthur’s nose. The man was one of the gangs hit men, with the precise instruction from Linda to take Arthur out so she could run off with him instead.
The car nearby sent a shiver down Linda’s spine as she dropped the check into the mailbox, hoping it would all be over soon with no one suspecting her. She even used a blank check thinking no one could trace it, but little did she know just how well Shelby Company Limited kept their finances. As the car neared, she hoped Arthur wasn’t inside, meaning her plan had worked and her payment would be sent. But only time would tell.
With quick steps she went back into the shop, seeing Y/N walking out of Thomas’ office as she’d placed the remaining paperwork on his desk.
“Did ya find it okay? I thought you’d left for the night.” Y/N said.
“Everything is fine Y/N. Were you able to get those papers sorted?” She asked, changing the subject as the boys walked through door looking worse for wear.
“Yes.” Y/N answered quickly as she followed Linda’s wide-eyed gaze to the front door.
“Y/N go get the first aid kit. Now!” Thomas demanded as he sat Arthur down in a nearby chair, John helping unbutton his shirt as Finn grabbed the whiskey from Thomas’ office.
“Drink up brother this is going to hurt.” Finn said, holding the bottle to his lips as he chugged the brown liquid.
“My god what happened?” Y/N heard Linda ask as she gathered the first aid kit with shaking hands.
“Those fuckers shot me, one of the fellows almost shot me in the head damn near.” Arthur said through gritted teeth as Thomas looked at the gunshot wound to his abdomen.
“Here Tom.” Y/N said quickly, handing him the kit and crouching near Arthur to hold his hand that Linda was surprisingly not holding.
“It’ll be alright, deep breaths.” Y/N said squeezing his hand a bit to take his mind off Thomas extracting the bullet.
The room filled with Arthur’s shouts of agony as Thomas worked to dislodge it, his blood spurting out every so often from the movements of the tools.
“Linda are you alright?” John asked as he saw her face turn pale. He was holding Arthur back and helpless at the point.
“Yeah. Arthur? Love? It’s me. I want to stay but I’ll be no use on the floor. I’ll go home to be get things ready for you. Stay strong love.” She said quickly, her face sparkling with sweat as she fought back nausea from the sight of her almost ex-husbands blood. A panicked feeling shooting through her veins as she realized her plan was falling apart.
“Oh alright, just go!” He shouted drunkenly as he grew frustrated at the situation. His mind trying to piece together why he was targeted out of all of them as Thomas stopped the bleeding and stitched him up.
“I don’t know Tom, I don’t know why they aimed at me....why he aimed at me I don’t know....” He said, drifting off as he grew tired from the ordeal.
“It’s alright we’ll figure it out in the morning.” Thomas said, helping his brother up as John got the door and helped him into the car.
“Where’s John taking him?” Y/N asked, wiping her hands on her dress as she stared at the bloody mess on the floor.
“Home. He can rest there more than here. Thank you for looking after the shop with Linda.” He said, going to clean up the mess.
“It’s no problem Tommy. Here I can clean that...if you need a moment to rest.” She said, grabbing a cloth near her and dousing it in some of the whiskey.
Thomas stepped back as she wiped the rest of the blood away, her hair falling out of its loose bun as she ringed the last of the blood off the towel and into the small pail that contained the bullet.
“Are you hurt or anything?” She asked, her heart racing as she realized he’d been staring.
“Just a few scratches. Don’t worry about it love.” He said, lighting a cigarette and staring into her eyes. Y/N could feel her cheeks heating up as she looked back towards her desk, the old butterflies she’d had tucked away for the man resurfacing as of late.
“Well if everything’s done here, am I free to go?” She asked.
“Mhmm.” He said, walking towards his office as she gathered her things. His mind racing with why his brother was shot out of all of them. If anything he thought he would’ve been the first on their hit list.
“I’ve left the paperwork from today on your desk if you feel like signing them. Goodnight Tommy.” She said giving him a small smile.
“Thank you, good night love.” He said, his lips turning up slightly as he watched her walking out the door.
The next morning, Michael had came into his office urgently, with a stack of checks in his hand.
“One of them are missing Tom. Wasn’t me but it was recent. I can tell because we just wrote one today and the one before it is gone. See.” He said showing him the checkbook and where the sequence of numbers hadn’t lined up.
“Well who the fuck stole a company check then aye? Only three people know the code and that’s you, Polly, and Y/N.” He said, his heart aching at the thought of her doing something like that when he already paid her more than she’d expected.
“You want me to call a meeting?” Michael asked, rubbing a tired hand over his face.
“Yeah. Whoever did that probably knows about Arthur.” He said, his suspicion growing from last nights events.
“What’s wrong?” Polly asked as they all sat around the large table in the betting room.
“I have reasons to suspect someone has stolen a check from the company. Maybe used it to pay off someone perhaps.” He said, his eyes darting to everyone. Linda looked tired and Arthur sat near her with a pained expression.
“Would any one of you happen to know who it was? It was recent.” He said, placing a cigarette between his lips and lighting it. The smoke filling the room almost as heavily as the tension.
“It wasn’t Michael or I.” Polly said, shaking her head.
“Y/N...do you know anything about this?” Thomas asked, his eyes much more serious than last night. They were frightening in the way they bore into her soul despite her not knowing what was going on.
“No. I haven’t got a clue Tommy.” She said, holding his gaze as her heart raced.
“Linda...you were also here last night. Do you know?” He asked looking at her with the same calculating eyes.
“No. All I remember is I stepped out for a moment to send off one of your letters and to catch some air before you all arrived.” She said.
“And Y/N was the only one at the shop during that time?” He asked.
“Yes.” She said, her eyes squinting slightly at the poor woman who hadn’t done a thing wrong the whole time she’d been there.
“Look, Tommy I-“ Y/N started to say before he interrupted her in a harsh tone.
“I don’t know why you stole it, but somehow my brother was shot the same night and you were the last person I saw in the shop. You were also the only person there while Linda was away. I have no other choice but to fire you, Y/N. Get your things and go.” He said. Y/N’s face paled and her eyes brimmed with tears as she silently left the room. She averted her gaze from everyone, instead looking at the floor as she packed her things and went out the door, thinking she’d never return to the shop again.
She tried to defend herself somewhat, knowing she didn’t have anything to do with what happened. But none of her words would speak sense into him right now. He was too quick to make judgements, but she wasn’t prepared for him to hurt her like he just did. She felt her body trembling and growing warmer as she slammed her car door shut, the sheer embarrassment and anger rising in her as she made her way home.
As the day drug on, Thomas searched with Michael for the check, calling post offices and banks to see where it could have been sent and who had written it.
“It was picked up this morning Mr. Shelby. Doesn’t look like your handwriting though. I’ll have it sent to you. You caught it just in time.” The woman said, glancing at the writing on the envelope.
“Alright, thank you ma’am.” He said before hanging up.
“What’d they say aye?” Arthur asked, wincing as he moved about in his chair.
“They’re sending it back. It was almost sent out so we caught it just in time. She mentioned it wasn’t my handwriting.” He said, lighting a cigarette.
“Christ. What’d Linda say aye? Did her letter get sent out? She said it was for a charity.” Arthur asked, remembering she mentioned a letter.
“I’ve never written one to any charities, not recently.” Thomas said as his eyes narrowed.
“What...do you think...Linda stole the check?” Arthur asked quietly, knowing she was right around the corner.
“It’s possible. I know she’s your wife and all but she hasn’t exactly been helpful around here lately. Also it’s not adding up.” He said, his mind racing as he thought about the meeting.
“Christ....so you think she wrote the letter and the check then? They would’ve found the letter.” Arthur said.
“Aye, I think the letter was a ruse. The woman from the post office never found a letter from us. Just the check.” He said.
“Well let’s fookin’ ask her then. I can’t sleep at night knowing me wife’s trying to kill me.” Arthur said, a bit of panic in his voice as he realized she may have put a hit on him.
Over the next hour Thomas and him discussed the possibility of it being her, or it being Y/N. But now all signs were pointing to the short-haired blonde woman who not only had a knack for stealing hearts, but for stealing checks as well as, the mailman handed Thomas the envelope that had cursive handwriting on it. Inside contained a check and a terribly forged signature, along with her distinctive handwriting. Thomas couldn’t help but look out into the evening sky as he realized he’d made the wrong decision once again.
Linda heard her name being called as Thomas stood out his office door after retrieving the mail, the tension in the air seeming to rise as she reluctantly made her way to him.
“I have something to discuss with you and Arthur.” He said, ushering her into his office.
He locked the door behind her and stood in front of it as Linda sat by her husband. His tone more hostile than it had been at the family meeting earlier.
“So Linda...I’ll ask this once again. Did you steal the check?”
Linda looked around the room nervously as Arthur carefully got up and moved towards the door, officially wary of the woman.
Seeing as she had no way out, she sighed. Kissing the dream of running off with her lover goodbye as she knew how this interrogation could go.
“Y-yes I stole the combination from Y/N and snuck in the safe. The check was...to a man.” She said.
“Well it wasn’t to me. Who the fuck was it made out to?” Arthur asked, clinching his fists.
Linda stared at him blankly as a tear fell down her cheek.
“A man named Isaac. He was in-in that gang. I....I’ve been seeing him.” She said, wiping the tears from her eyes as he stalked forward.
“You fookin’ what?.... No...You don’t just put a hit out on a Shelby. Especially not on your own fucking husband.” He said angrily as Thomas put a firm hand on his shoulder to steady him.
“I did though, Arthur. I wanted to run off with him. I wanted you gone so it would be easier for me to leave. But I can’t do that now.” She said.
“So you knew I’d be walking into a death trap aye? You could’ve gotten more than me killed.” He spat, leaning against the door.
Linda nodded as she tore her gaze from the man she once thought she loved, guilt and anger taking over as she stood up.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Thomas said, watching her reach for the gun on his desk.
“I just want to leave this place.” She said looking at the gun in her hand as she raised it at Thomas.
“If you shoot us, it’ll make it harder to leave. Put the gun down.” He said sternly.
With a sigh, she lowered the gun and placed it on the table. Wiping her tears away with shaking hands as she walked to the door and stared at Arthur angrily. His hurt expression at her confession barely phasing her.
“Arthur...” She said, trying to grab his hand from the doorknob. With a quick movement he gripped her wrist tightly before speaking.
“Fuck you Linda. I’m glad you failed.” He said with a slightly evil smirk.
“What do you mean? He got the check.” She said, not noticing the post had sent it back.
“We got the check and saw it was in your handwriting...we also killed him after he shot me. He won’t need you where he’s going. On the bright side...now you can suffer alone.” He said, as Linda looked angrily at him. Tears streaming down her face silently as he let go of her wrist.
“Linda.” Thomas said, causing her to rip her gaze from her now ex-husband.
“You should get your things together. You’re fired.” He said.
“You can’t do that! What will I do about money? The house?” She asked.
“You should’ve thought about that before you tried to hire someone to kill my brother. Now go.” He said lighting a cigarette and pointing her out the door.
With one last glance, she ran out of the office. The commotion of her gathering all her things making the rest of the company look around nervously as she did a walk of shame out the door with her stuff. Shoving it all in her car and vowing to never come back.
As the company got back to work for the evening, Thomas quickly ran out too, barely uttering a goodbye to Polly before leaving.
“Where are you going at this hour?” She asked, looking up from her papers.
“I made a mistake Pol.” He said.
“I’m not surprised.” She said.
“Excuse me?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.
“At least get the balls to tell her you’re sorry and that ya like her. Maybe bring her some flowers. We could all see it you know.” She said as he rubbed the back of his neck impatiently.
“Anything else to add Pol?” He asked.
“Don’t fire her again. She’s the one good thing that’s happened to this goddamned company.” She said as he nodded and went towards her flat.
When he arrived with flowers in hand, he didn’t expect to see her in such a state. Her eyes were red and puffy like she’d been crying. And her hair was unkept as she held a bottle of wine in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
“Why the fuck are you here aye?” She asked, slightly slurring her words.
“It was Linda....Y/N. All along it was her. She didn’t mail a letter, she mailed a check. And that check almost got Arthur killed. I’m uh...sorry for all I did back there.” He said.
“What...did you bring me flowers to cheer me up? Fuck off.” She said before trying to shut the door.
“Wait.” He said, holding his free hand out to hold the door.
“I came here for three reasons alright?” He said.
“Well get to talking because it’s cold.” She said, throwing her cigarette over the steps into the damp ground.
“Alright...I wanted to apologize because I know what I did and you didn’t deserve that. And I wanted to offer you your job back.” He said.
“What’s the third aye? I may be tipsy but I can still count.” She said.
“That I like you. I know I’ve been a real bastard recently but I swear I do.” He said.
“What do you say aye?” He asked, holding the flowers out to her.
“Next time buy me roses. And...I’ll accept your offer, but it’s only because I like you too. Now are we going to stand around here all night or are you coming in?” She asked with a slight smirk.
He smiled for what seemed like the first time in forever, taking his cap off as she grabbed the flowers from him. Leading him inside where they would later spend the rest of the night and many other nights to come.

The Cult
Summary: A few years after the return of the stones Steve leaves S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers for good. He starts a religious movement. Newly wed James and his wife (reader) visit his old friend at his compound.
Warning: oral sex and sex Bucky x Reader, Dark Steve x Reader Cult AU
This one got away from me its super long. Sorry
The small prosthetics shop you owned normally catered to low income families and people that had little to no insurance. So it was quite the surprise seeing the brunette Avenger waltzing through your doors.
"Don't you army guys get the Stark industry discount?" You teased the sullen soldier as he ignored you completely.
So that's why they call him the winter soldier.
"Or are you spying on me for the competition?" You say as you watch him examine the different prosthetics throughout the store. When he finally stopped in front of a display case that contained a very popular prosthetic. You had to stop yourself from giggling at the irony of it all.
"That one is called 'The Hero'" you could practically feel his eyes roll as you rounded the counter to open up the display case. " It's my most popular and affordable multi-grip bionic arm for folks that have below elbow and upper-limb differences. Would you like to try it on?"
"Yea sure"
"Oh Ok..." you hand him the arm and scurry over to the door to lockup and put on your 'Be right back sign' with the estimated time of your return.
Walking to the back to your workshop you wave him over to follow you. Stopping at your workshop table you pat the top and motion for him to come closer.
"Aren't you friends with Tony or something? I mean I love my stuff, but compared to his my stuff is trash"
He only scoffed in response. Taking off his jacket as he enter the room that's when you saw it. His left shirt sleeve knotted at the top.
As he placed the garment on your table you sensed his apprehension when it came time to remove the shirt.
"Honey you don't have anything I haven't seen or haven't not seen before" you joke trying to lighten the mood.
By the look on his face you could tell he didn't find you the least bit amusing. With his right arm he grabbed the shirt at the hem and pulled it up and over. The sculpt of his body was amazing. Suddenly it felt as if the heat in your little back room shot through the roof.
"Take a picture it will last longer" he joked with a half smile and with that the mood shifted in the room. You tried to think of a retort, but your brain was fried. Instead you opted to examine his left side tracing your finger around lazily before going to grab your notepad.
"Well you will need something customized for sure. Come back in a week and I should have something ready for you."
As he redressed while you stole glances at his exposed muscles. When he looked back at you, you pretended to write down more notes on your note pad.
"They don't let you take that kind of stuff with you when you retire" Bucky could tell it was a question you had wanted to ask the moment he walked in. He was referring to his now missing infamous vibranium arm.
It had been over a year since the Winter Soldier first entered your shop. Your prosthetics were durable, but were no match for his super strength. It was almost a bi-weekly occurrence that he would enter your shop in need of repairs or a new prosthetic.
"OOOOOH! Looking sharp." You call out to Bucky as he enters your shop for the third time this month. His hair was freshly cut and his face clean shaven. Showing off a jawline that could definitely cut glass. "Got a hot date tonight?"
"That depends on if you say yes" He frankly as he pulled a bushel of flowers from behind his back.
You were dumbfounded as he smiled down at you with those gorgeous blue eyes. The only thing you could do to reply was nod your head like an idiot.
Waking up with your husbands head between your legs was the best way to start your three year anniversary. Looking down at the tuft of brown hair tickling your thighs you were tempted to pull on them, but decided against it.
Bucky's hot breath on your folds made you involuntarily squirm alerting him that you were now awake. You could feel the grin on his mouth feathering over your clit. The anticipation of his touch had you grasping the bed sheets beneath you.
"Good morning Bucky" you say with a squeeze of your thigh.
He didn't answer only flattening his tongue to finally make contact. Bucky pressed it down your center, separating your folds and the sensation had your head falling back onto the pillow. You had to fight the urge to flip him over and ride his face.
His tongue going over every inch of your sex. You reach down and thread your fingers through his hair almost tempted to take the strands and pull him closer.
When you began to grip too tightly though he bit your inner thigh. Hissing you released it and Bucky rewarded you by kissing the area. Grinning to himself as he trailed kisses back down to your soaking pussy.
Before you knew it he took your left leg and swung it over his shoulder. Locking you in with his arm around your thigh, Bucky swiftly brought your mound flush to his face.
You gasp on impact feeling the devilish smile on him. Taking your clit in his teeth gently holding it there as his tongue flickered over it. Your back arched up from the bed as he sucked it completely into his mouth.
Releasing your leg his arm moved down your inner thigh. His thick finger spreading your lips apart. You sucked in a breath when one finger sank into you.
"Look at me baby" the vibrations of his voice on your clit had you buzzing.
His eyes waiting for you to rest on him. You couldn't do it the sight of him like that would make you cum immediately.
"Look at me" his voice became more demanding. Whimpering a soft no in defiance.
When his second digit joined in the fray you cursed out. "Fuck! James" you cry as you look down at him.
Bucky was making you uncontrollably wet. Flattening his tongue he licked and nipped on your folds. Cleaning your thoroughly whilst his finger pumped deeper and faster into you. You lost control of your thighs and squeeze his head, grinding your pussy on his face while you clutch the sheets.
"James...I-I can't take it" you could feel the pressure build in you. Your breathing became heavy as you rode out your orgasm on his face.
"Shit James" you moan as your head falls back on to the pillow.
"Happy anniversary" he said pulling back to sit on his haunches.
"Happy anniversary to you too" you pant out. You wanted to sit up on your elbows but you just felt too weak. The bed dipped as Bucky climbed out of it. "Where are you going?"
"I had planned on making you breakfast" he walked over to place a kiss on your head.
"Oh. I thought women from your time did the cooking while the men brought home the bacon" you tease him. Rolling over on your side you watch him grab a pair of grey sweat pants from the dresser.
"Seeing as though you work and I'm retired some might say the rolls have reversed."
You weren't going to argue with getting breakfast made after a great orgasm. If this man wanted to pamper you, you wouldn't fight it.
"I like my bacon crispy" you call out as he walked out of the bedroom. Your legs were still a bit weak, but you managed to pull yourself out of bed. Stretching as you walk to the bathroom.
After you brushed and showered you got dress to go to the mailbox. You were expecting a package that you wanted to surprise James with, but with all the pandemic madness it was arriving later than excepted. Through the mail slot you picked up the papers and huffed disappointingly at the lack of parcel. Shuffling through the pile of mail you head into the kitchen to check on James.
"Smells good." The aroma was making you hungrier.
"Sounds like you were doubting me" he said with his bare back to you.
"Never of course not" you lied. He had burnt more than one meal throughout your relationship so you always tried to monitor him on the sly. "You got a letter, no stamp which is super weird" trying to change the subject you slap it on the counter behind him. "Ooooh is it some secret spy stuff"
You expected him to huff and brush you off, but he didn't. He looked as if he was frozen in place.
"James?" You became concerned and started walking towards him.
He turned to the letter, dropping the spatula to grab the letter. Opening it he started to read, his face contouring throughout the process.
You moved passed him to start on the coffee until you smelled it. The bacon was starting to quickly burn. James was so lost in thought that he didn't smell the smoke coming off the now very over cooked bacon.
Spinning around you rush to turn off the stove. The blackening bacon emitted more smoke as you ran it under the sink. The smoke detector shrieked out and you dropped the pan to open the kitchen window to air out the room. As you started to cough Bucky was unmoved.
"Bucky what the hell!" you scold him.
Clutching the letter in his hand you couldn't tell if it were the smoke or the letter but his eyes were red and watery.
"It's Steve" you looked at him confused until it hit you. Steve was a buddy from his past. Another man lost out of time.
*Flash back
When they realized Steve wasn't coming back after returning the infinity stones a decision was made. They didn't want to cause more damage to the time line than what they had already done and Bucky knew exactly where to look.
Steve was dragged back to the proper time line by his Avenger buddies. He did not take his friends intervening into his second chance with the love of his life too well. The chance to not be the man out of time.
The frustration and the feeling of betrayal ate away at him. Bucky had taken the brunt of his ire. He began seeing himself as a soldier stuck in a constant war and of all the people that could understood Bucky should have. Steve's mental state was breaking down and a festering hatred for S.H.E.I.L.D. and the Avengers grew. The super soldier was turning into something his friends could not recognize.
Then one day Captain America vanished. S.H.E.I.L.D. and The Avengers scoured the four corners of the earth looking for him. Despite their combined resources
James took Steve's disappearance the hardest. He blamed himself for the deterioration of Steve's mental state. Steve saved him, but it seemed he could not return the favor.
The guilt and pain of losing and betraying Steve took its toll on him as well. S.H.E.I.L.D. did not want to risk harming Bucky's mental state. With his history with brainwashing they thought it wise to relieve him of his duties. So within a year after Steve's disappearance Bucky was forced into a mandatory retirement.
*Present
In the letter Steve told Bucky he had started a settlement and invited him to visit. He left instructions on how to contact and find it. When he asked you to come with him you said yes without hesitation. He didn't think to question how a letter with no postage found its way to the house. It nagged you a bit, but you brushed it off as Avenger/spy stuff. It also nagged you that Bucky had searched for Steve a long time just for him to randomly make himself known on your anniversary.
You hated flying, but you did it for Bucky. The journey out of the country took several hours to complete. Once you two landed you were dismayed to find you had to immediately board a helicopter. When the propellers started up you fastened your seat belt and held on to Bucky's arm for dear life. Your never were completely shot and you were exhausted. As the small plane travel over the tree tops you couldn't bring yourself to look.
This was your first time out of the states and you cursed Bucky for taking you to god knows where instead of Hawaii.
As the chopper started its descent your were able to calm down. When you felt it hit the earth you looked out the window. This wasn't an airport. This was a makeshift tarmac in the middle of the tallest trees you had ever seen.
Scanning around you spot a Jeep. "James do you know those guys" pointing to the man standing outside their vehicle.
"No, but I'm sure he must be a transport to the town"
"Who builds a "town" way out here?"
When the propellers slow to a stop James unbuckled and you followed suit. Grabbing some luggage he exits the chopper.
"Your taking me to Hawaii when this is all over, you know what scratch that Paris" you huffed out as you struggled with your bags.
A tall man pushes off the jeep and walks over. Looking up at James, his face ferociously serious.
"Mr. Barnes I presume" he extended his hand to shake, but Bucky only looked at it.
"Well I'm sure your not Captain America so who are you" you tried to break the tension.
The tall man eyed you as if you had offended him for speaking out of turn.
"Right this way we will take you to him"
Rude
He turns from you two to walk to the jeep. "Are you sure about this James" you ask softly so that the man can't hear. Bucky looks down at your nervous face and softens his gaze, placing a hand on your lower back.
"It's alright I got you" he reassures you then kisses the top of your head.
Despite his effort that did little to comfort you. When you reached the Jeep Bucky tossed the bags in the trunk then you piled into the back seat first followed by your husband.
The vehicle started up and headed towards a dirt road. Each side of it aligned with trees. The hum of the ride lulled you to sleep and you passed out on his shoulder.
The halting of the jeep woke you. From the back seat you could see a massive wooden gate.
The compound was amazing, encased by a tall log fence surrounding the premises. As you passed through it the site wasn't what you expected. Once inside you could see plowed fields on one side and cattle, sheep and the odd chicken enclosed in its own gate on the other.
It stretched out for a while before you saw cute little wooden houses, some with flowers or little gardens of their own and laundry lines some with or without clothes hanging to dry. You had assumed you would see tents or some kinda shabby twig shack.
Further down the road you saw a much larger structure. As you approached the jeep decreased in speed. There were groups of children playing care free. Some running along the vehicle to beat it to its destination before giving up and turning back.
When the jeep slowed you saw him. There he was, Captain America, standing in front of a massive wooden church. It was the biggest structure out of all the houses you passed along the way.
You could feel Bucky's muscle tense in your arms. Stroking his arm you try and sooth him.
After parking the car the driver walked around to your door and opened it. Helping you out much to your surprise. Bucky filed out after you. Moving past you to walk straight up to Steve.
Captain America out stretched his arms and engulfed Bucky in a bear hug. It took a moment before Bucky lifted his own arms to hug him back.
You watched from the sideline, both men fighting back tears. The reunion had long sense been over due.
"Punk who is this?" Steve broke the hug and looked at you.
Stepping back to put your hand over your shoulder bringing you into a side hug. "This is my wife Y/N"
Steve eyed you and smiled. You felt so small all of a sudden.
"Welcome Y/N" his hand out stretched to receive yours. His smile blindingly bright.
"I've heard so much about you. I mean not just because your Captain America." If you would've blinked you would have missed it. There was a slight twitch in his eye. You reach to shake his hand and he clasps his hands over your own.
His grip was firm but not too much. Slipping your hand out it felt as if his hands resisted the break for just a moment. Almost as if his fingers tips linger to tickle atop your skin.
"No one calls me that any more. Here... Here I'm just Steve."
"Well, Steve this place is very impressive" you smile at him. "I must say I expected little grass huts not actual houses." You didn't miss the smirk on Steve's face.
"Every building was built by hand. We teach all the men how to do carpentry" he boasted. "And we run everything on solar energy."
"But no running water I'm afraid, but we are working on it"
"Wait, just the men?" You corked a brow.
"Ha... the women are welcome to learn too, but they tended to gravitate else where"
You had an assumption of what he might have meant, but you didn't want to press him on it. James was reuniting with his dear friend after such a long time. You didn't want to ruffle any feathers.
"After a long trip like that I'm sure you two must be hungry"
He was right. You hadn't eaten since you left the US. The plane ride had your stomach in knots so you couldn't eat there either.
Leading the way Steve rounded the opposite side of the church with Bucky right on his side. Both chatting about past missions or the war you weren't quite sure. Bucky looked so happy, the smile on his face made your heart ache. You were happy for him, but Steve would glance back at you as he spoke to Bucky. There was a smile on his face all the while but his eyes looked as if they hid something.
The aroma of the food hit your nose taking your attention away from him. As you looked about for the location of the food your stomach to growl.
You weren't sure if it was a special occasion or if this was a nightly occurrence. In the distance you saw women setting the tables with food and plates. Each table aligned next to each other. When the bell rang you were startled. It must've signaled that dinner was ready because people where gravitating to the tables taking a seat.
Steve of course sat at the head of one of the largest tables. Bucky sat next to him while you sat across from your husband. As people filled in the people sat and talked amongst themselves. The food look great, but you wondered if it would be bland. As you looked around the room you could feel eyes on you when you turned to look at Bucky he wasn't looking at you, but when you looked at Steve you saw him as he just looked away.
When Steve rose from his chair the room grew quite. All eyes looked at him.
"Let us say grace" his voice boomed. The woman next to you nudged your arm, her hand turned up right ready to receive yours. Awkwardly you take her hand.
"Steve's too" she whispered into your ear before she lowered her head. You turned your head and found Steve's hand waiting expectedly. His head down with one eyes open looking towards you to take his hand. Timidly you take his too the then he closes his eyes. You look around the room and even Bucky was bowing his head, so as to not be rude you did the same.
This was very awkward for you. As your hand rested in Steve’s you felt his thumb trace slowly around your palm. It took everything in you not to snatch your hand away. You didn't want to cause a scene in this peaceful moment, but you sure as hell would tell your husband what just happened.
When he finished the prayer you pulled your hand away swiftly. Rubbing against the fabric of your jeans as to scrub him off. Bucky was once again in deep conversation with Steve and everyone else resumed talking. Leaving you to feel lonely and out of place.
A little girl not older than 10 you thought came with a pitcher to refill your glass. The poor thing poured too much spilling on to your lap.
"Shit!" You looked around and every one had paused. The little girl was almost in tears. "Oh no it's okay sweetie" you took a napkin and blotted your wet blouse.
She looked passed you for only a second before she cried and ran off.
"Shit fuck" you sighed out.
"You shouldn't be cursing like that" the woman that sat next to you admonished. For a moment you forgot where you were. Of course a place like this would look down at that kinda language."
"Sorry my bad" Looking at Bucky he only smiled knowing how you were, but you caught Steve’s expression before he changed it. Unpleased.
Oh great
Your clothes weren't getting drier and your body was running on E.
"Um Steve" you reluctantly turned to talk to him as you dabbed yourself. "Where are we going to be staying I think I would like to change out of this and call it a day." Yawning as you spoke to him. The effects of the long day was taking its toll.
"You will be guest at my home." Steve waved over to one of the women at the table. You go up and walk over to Bucky. Wrapping your arms around his neck you lean down to give him a kiss. "Have fun" he kisses you again before you depart.
The woman Steve called older was a bit elderly. Smiling at you she wordlessly guided you to Steve's house. Walking through the grassy knoll you could see a house just past the church. It was larger than the houses you saw along the road. Facing opposite the church she walked up the stairs through the back door. The door lead to the kitchen. You continue following her until she stops in front of the guest rooms door. Your bags already waiting for you.
"Thank you Mrs." you say to her as she smiles back at you before gingerly walking off and out of the house.
Closing the door you strip down. You wanted to take a bath, but you remembered there was no running water. The queen bed called out to you. Flopping on it you drift off to sleep.
You awoke to a faint sound. Through your tired state you listened intently. Someone was crying. Your heart fell when you realized it was Bucky.
"James?" you groggily call out. Getting off the bed you walk over to him.
"Are you alright?"
Clearing his throat he assured you he was fine. Hugging tightly you rub his back and you could feel his tears fall on your shoulder.
You couldn't imagine how he must've felt to loose a friend and find them again in the ways they have. The emotional toll it must be taking on them both.
This was the worst time to talk about this, but you were never much for holding your tongue. Stepping back from the hug you took a deep breath and blurted it out.
"James I don't think I like Steve"
Bucky looked at you quizzically, you felt like shit.
"What do you mean" he looked a little upset but still listened.
"I feel like he lingers. His touches, his eyes on me. He just makes me.." You say as you sat down heavily on the mattress.
He swooped down on the bed to get close to you. Placing his hands on your shoulders rubbing you.
"Steve and I are from a different time. The Punk has always been awkward around beautiful women"
Dipping down his head to be level with yours he began kissing you. The salty taste of his tears fell on your tongue as he passionately kissed you.
Pulling back you thought that maybe he was right. Maybe all of this was making you paranoid or weird. Steve was from a different time and this place felt like it was from a different world.
"Your right its just a little different here. I'm sorry" you try and back track.
Pushing you backwards you hit the rough mattress. Bucky stripped himself of his clothes. His hands reached for your knees spreading them apart so that he could position himself between your thighs.
Wrapping your legs around his waist you press him to your sex, grinding on him with a desperate need. He dived to your lips kissing you again rougher than before. This time with a hunger that you both shared.
"Fuck Bucky... Fuck me" you pant in-between breaths. His cock growing harder as it slicks with your juices. Lining himself up he pushed into your need and you claw into his back as his cock stretches you.
"Y/N" he moaned into your mouth as he began pumping harder and harder. His pelvis slamming into you and despite the pain of the fullness you could feel a damn of pleasure waiting to break.
"Bucky baby" you moaned as he kissed down your chin to your neck.
The modest home walls were thin, Steve stood out side his guest room. Stroking himself to the music of your love making unbeknownst to you. Sweat beaded off his forehead as he imagined you. Placing a palm on the door-frame he grunts as he feels himself reaching his peak. As Bucky shouts your name Steve whispers it in the empty hall.
*Ding Dong
The sound of the church bells could not be ignored. Your eyes opened with annoyance at the noise. The light of dawn had not even begun to crack the sky.
Patting the mattress you discovered your husband gone. He had been know not to sleep well some nights and would walk around your house, but you felt uneasy and worried this time. Something felt off.
*Ding Dong
Throwing your feet off the bed you stand to get up. In the darkened room you feel around for the dresser to find a long shirt and your cell, but it was missing. Feeling along the wall you search for the light switch, but when you find and flick it nothing happens. From what you could see, he wasn't anywhere in the room. You bit your bottom lip and pushed yourself forward toward the door.
Opening the door you peer out the area was darkened too.
"James" you whisper into the hall. Leaving the room you begin to walk down the tiny hall of the unfamiliar house.
*Ding Dong
Feeling around the wall you search for your husband. At the end of the hall you could make out the large living room window. Despite its size the light that came from it did little to illuminate the room.
"Shit!" You cursed as you bumped into some corner table. The panic building in you helped dull the pain.
"James" you call out a bit louder as your eyes scanned the room.
*He wasn't here.
Off to the right you could see the entry to the kitchen. You gingerly walk into it hoping to find him, but your stomach tightened when you saw the back door wide open.
*Ding Dong
The bells of the church was louder here. Building up the nerve you slowly walk to it.
Before the bell could chime again you felt something impale you hard from behind. The pain from it was so immense your vision went from blurred dizziness to black in an instant.
Your back ached in discomfort as your eyes fluttered open. Laying on the floor you turn, but your shoulder hit a ceiling. When the smell of cedar hit your nose the panic really set in. There was very little light that broke through the seams of the wall, but you couldn't see through it. It felt like you were running out of air as your heart picked up speed.
Your finger tips felt around and you filled with dread. You were surrounded by four walls.
"Bucky!" You screamed. You bang your hands on the wooden ceiling. "James! Help me please!"
Your were hysterical you needed out. If this was a nightmare you needed to awake. You shouted and screamed for your husband, but he didn't answer.
"Buckyyyyyy!" You screamed.
You beat the ceiling even as you felt blood trickle down on your face from your bloodied fist. The air felt thinner and thinner as you whaled.
"Bucky" your voice fainter now as you felt yourself slipping away. You couldn't catch a breath, your hands too heavy to hold up. Falling limp on your chest as you try and call for him again, but the darkness consumed you once more.

[angst ; wordcount: 2k]
Pairing: Bang Chan x Reader
pt.1 ; pt.2
[08:49 a.m]
The warm, sweet smell of freshly baked chocolate croissants quickly filled up the small kitchen in Chan's apartment. He had a day off and after going to the bakery nearby to treat himself to a nice breakfast, he checked the mailbox and strangely found, among the different advertising magazines and usual bills he had to pay, a letter addressed to him.
He left it on the counter and kept staring at it while taking big, slow bites of the warm brioche in his hand. His mind started wandering from one thought to another, he really didn't know who could possibly leave a letter to him since he usually kept in touch with people either via emails or texts.
But suddenly, a specific thought flashed in his mind for a fraction of seconds. He stopped chewing on the croissant as he slowly walked closer to the counter and his eyes analyzed the handwriting properly.
"I'm so dumb…"
He mumbled to himself, a big sigh following right away. He left his unfinished breakfast on the small table and his fingers quickly traced his name written on that envelope. It was your handwriting, he couldn't explain why he didn't recognize it the second he saw it, but it was probably because he convinced himself that the two of you weren't gonna cross paths anymore.
What was the content of the letter? Why did you leave a letter? And when? Why not a text message?
Chan quickly shook his head, annoyed by all those unanswered questions floating around in his head, and he rapidly opened the envelope, but he closed it again right away, cowardly.
"Dear Chan…"
That was all he read. Yet, he felt scared. Scared of what you carefully wrote for him in that piece of paper. He felt so small and coward, but at the same time he knew it was wrong to just ignore it. He also had to admit that if he was already over you, he probably wouldn't have felt this way at all.
"Three, two, one…"
He got the piece of paper out of the envelope and took a deep breath before letting his eyes absorb every single word written on it.
"Dear Chan,
Yes, yes it's me. I don't know why I'm not texting you. I promised myself I wouldn't have contacted you but here I am… a coward as usual!"
He lightly bit his bottom lip as he snorted and looked away for a moment. You didn't change at all, no matter how much time had passed.
"But don't expect something long. No, this is something important and I want to keep it as short as possible so you can read this quickly."
His mind was telling him to stop reading.
Why am I even reading this? We're not together anymore-
But he actually cared so much. Cared for a relationship he, himself, had ruined with his own hands.
"Focus, Chan. Focus."
He sounded mad at his own thoughts, and decided to proceed with reading the rest of the letter.
The piece of paper slowly left his hand as it delicately reached the floor, by his feet.
"...so you can read this quickly.
Thank you, Chan. Thank you and sorry.
Thank you for keeping me warm during lonely, cold nights.
Thank you for showing me how bright your eyes can shine whenever you smile.
And thank you for breaking me, too. I was able to get up again, maybe with some scars, but I'm not gonna stay stuck here. We have to move on.
I don't have any bad feelings for you. Thank you for loving me, and thank you for letting me love you.
I'm actually leaving tonight, you know, I acc accepted a job overseas.
I wish you the best, always. "
Leaving?
Why were you leaving? Was it because of him?
A relationship that Chan knew he had completely ruined. He wasn't able to make you as happy as he thought he was, he actually hurt you multiple times and didn't know how to fix it, until it reached a breakpoint. And after letting you down, he just thought it was better to leave you. Because he didn't want to hurt you more than he had already done.
His fingers started running through his messy hair, messing it up even more than it was already ruffled. His mind was running even faster than a few moments earlier and he was feeling somehow lost.
What was he going to do? He noticed that you left the time of your flight in the letter, did he have to meet you there? Were you actually trying to leave a message to him? Were the two of you really over that relationship?
What were you telling him? What was he supposed to do?
"Gosh, this is destroying my mind."
His voice filled the silence in the kitchen with slight anger and confusion.
Did he actually want to go and meet you? Was it going to be worth it? What if you two ended up arguing?
He reached for the piece of paper, leaving it on the table as he tried to finish his breakfast, although his hunger was already more than gone.
His mind once again drifted away as he let the sweet, warm taste of chocolate fill his senses. His eyes focused on those few words at the end of the handwritten letter.
Bite after bite, he could feel his own thoughts getting more and more mixed up.
As he arrived home, he left the grocery bags on the table in the kitchen and sat down, his eyes automatically moving to the handwritten letter, that simple yet scary letter.
He felt like a weird pang in his heart decided to bother him.
As he tried his best not to think about that letter, he tried to get distracted throughout the day; he went out for a stroll, met with some friends, and went grocery shopping. Yet that weird feeling in his chest wasn't leaving him alone. It really felt like something was wrong, not in its place…
Chan took a deep breath and put that letter back in its envelope. He finally made up his mind, there wasn't much time left before you would have left the country. He had to meet you.
"What should I do…"
He sighed soundly, his heart tightening, his throat suddenly feeling dry as his hands caught that piece of paper for the thousandth time that day. Reading and rereading those few sentences, his eyes couldn't help but let his mind memorize the time you had written at the end of the letter. There, before your signature, at the corner of the paper.
[9:23 p.m]
He tried his best to look somehow good; he kept his hands from distractedly ruffling his hair, he didn’t fidget too much with the hem of his coat because he knew he would have ruined it somehow. He didn't want to look like a whole mess, he didn't want that to be the last image you would have had of him vene though it was getting quite difficult for him to hide it.
He sighed once again, leaning his head against the window of the cab, on his way to the airport, as the bright neon lights of the city were occasionally caressing his features while he let the soft, distant music coming out of the radio fill up his mind, accompanying his thoughts.
Chan kept mumbling to himself the time you wrote in that letter as he looked at all the huge screens listing the different flights. He was scared he was late, maybe he didn't understand the letter properly. Maybe it was all something his mind made up for him, maybe-
Once he arrived, he didn't hesitate much before entering that huge building; seeing that huge crowd of people, bright white lights, luggage, voices, smiles, cries.
It felt as if the realization started to hit him.
You were leaving. You were leaving the country, you were leaving him and all the memories you were able to make with him.
And that was going to be his last chance to see you again.
As his mind kept running through irrational thoughts, his eyes met with yours. You were in a queue, waiting for your turn for the check-in. You were wearing a warm coat, a black scarf covering and warming up your neck while your fingers were distractedly tapping on your suitcase.
Chan felt like time stopped the moment your eyes met with his. He just looked at you, a little bit out of breath, as one of his hands went through his hair, ruffling it. He bit his lip and looked down for a second, probably cursing at himself for ruining his looks.
You mentally pointed out how his hair was longer than you remembered. Before you could notice anything else, it was finally your turn to the check-in. Your mind kept giving you so many rushed thoughts, as if you were somehow thrilled to be seeing him after so long. You unconsciously didn’t expect to see him, you had to admit it. So much had happened in the past months; since seeing him at work was getting unbearable, you asked for a shift with a colleague in order not to see him when you were there, not even on accident and then you got that job offer and didn’t even think about it twice before accepting. You saw it as a chance to leave everything behind.
Chan quietly stayed there, his hands both in the pockets of his coat as his eyes couldn't leave, not even for a second, your figure.
As Chan saw you walk closer to him, he froze. He felt like he was supposed to run away, as if he couldn't face you nor deserve to even talk to you.
"Have a safe flight!"
You thanked the lady in front of you with a smile and a nod as you walked away from that huge queue, directed to the gate for your flight.
You kept getting closer and closer to where he was standing.
His heart was racing, that ache not leaving his chest as your figure just kept getting cleaner and closer to his eyes.
You stopped a few steps far from him, enough to hear each other.
"Hey, you got the letter."
"Yeah, I did. I… I did, yeah."
As you were able to better observe his face, you noticed how his eyes were weary, his hair was messy because of excessive ruffling and he overall looked so exhausted. You couldn’t help but worry for him.
"Are you okay-"
"Chan, it's not just your fault-"
"I'm sorry."
He blurted out so quickly, he probably didn’t even hear your question. His eyes not brave anymore to keep eye contact with yours.
"I should have known better. It is my fault."
"It's okay. Maybe we just weren't meant to be."
"Don't... say that."
His voice sounded full of pain and regret as you slowly walked closer to him.
You gently placed two fingers under his chin, encouraging him to make his eyes focus on yours.
"Then, Chan… Do something to make me stay."
Those few, painful words left your lips in a hidden, loud and surreal cry as your eyes were trying to stay strong and keep eye contact with him.
Chan was there, in front of you, his lips slightly parted as you could tell panic was slowly filling his mind. His hands ruffled his slightly long hair again and as he did so, you started taking a few steps back, ready to turn and walk away.
“Anything.”
You insisted, your hand leaving his chin.
And you suddenly found yourself in that warm, familiar hug. A hug you had missed for months, already. A hug you thought you were not going to experience anymore.
"Stop it!"
His loud voice pierced your ears, followed by a swift, messy row of footsteps sounding louder and louder as you felt his hand grabbing you by the arm.
"Whatever I try to say, it will only make things worse."
He mumbled between soft sobs as you could feel his embrace getting tighter around your waist.
"Maybe it's just supposed to go this way."
You tried to hide your trembling voice as much as possible as you closed your eyes, your hands now reciprocating the desperate hug.
"Thanks for letting me love you, Chan."
"I'm so sorry."
He let his words leave his lips in a low, trembling whisper as he tried to feel that hug as much as he could.
"... I'm sorry I wasn't worth it-"
"You were."
You broke the hug and looked at him one last time with a light smile painting your lips as your eyes were starting to get filled with tears.
"You're a whole mess, Chan."
You lightly giggled as you wiped his tears with your thumb. He didn’t say anything back, so you decided to hold him in a last, warm hug.
Your figure getting more and more blurred to Chan's teary eyes as he finally let you go.
"It's gonna be alright. Believe me."
You caressed his cheeks one last time before you had to turn your back and walk away, the loud, robotic announcement voice mentioning your flight as you kept moving one step after the other.

[CN] Victor’s Tender Regards Date (Eng Translation)
🍒 Warning: This post contains detailed spoilers for a date (心意之约) which has not been released in English servers! 🍒

[ This date was released in CN on 16 Sep 2020 ]
Dedicating this translation to @kshiro for her constant, wholesome support since the early days of this blog ❤️
The date begins with MC in the office on a summer afternoon, musing over the “Snail Mail” collaboration event officially commencing the next day
She finds the name of the company very familiar, but she just can’t remember why
After ending a call with Anna (who reveals that the event would be taking place in the same camellia garden as the one in Maze Date), she receives a message from Victor, who invites her to dinner
She heads over to the camellia garden, and spots a familiar figure:

Under the eaves not too far away, Victor is wearing a black shirt, facing the curtain of rain as though in a trance.
Water droplets follow the branches which curl around the carved balustrades. He lifts his head slightly, and his expression is nonchalant.
We’re separated by some distance, so I can’t clearly identify the flowers in the bouquet he’s holding. I can only see his handsome chin.
All of a sudden, he lifts his other hand gently. A water droplet pelts onto his palm, as though pulling him into the pattering rain.
Seeing this, I find myself subconsciously frozen in place.
Because of the enshrouding misty rain, the Victor before me appears warmer and more tender than usual.
Taking a deep breath, an idea surfaces in my mind. I blink slyly, then deliberately lower my umbrella.
I brisk walk across the puddles towards the stairs, covering myself with the umbrella, attempting to furtively skirt behind Victor--

Victor: What smart idea have you come up with this time?
MC: ...!
My eyes widen in shock. Victor stands in front of the stairs. The moment our eyes meet, resignation flashes across his face, and also a hint of mischievousness.
Victor: Is it very shocking for me to recognise you?
MC: I thought you were in a daze...
Victor: I was at first. But someone’s “style” is just too unique, and I couldn’t ignore it even if I wanted to.
While he speaks, a smile appears on Victor lips, and his eyebrows rise slightly.
MC: Yes yes yes, my “smart idea” is too childish.
With this proximity, I can finally see the bouquet in his hand clearly: pink camellia flowers which are in full bloom.
[Trivia] Pink camellias symbolise longing, desire, and unreserved love
MC: Are these flowers from the camellia garden? It’s so rare to see CEO Victor with a bouquet! Looks like your plans for this afternoon are very important.
While glancing at him, I raise my volume, deliberately adopting an official yet curious tone.
MC: I wonder who’s the lucky person to receive flowers from CEO Victor?
You thought Victor would counter with a “childish”, but all he does is hang a faint smile on his lips, quietly listening to everything I say.
Victor: I have nothing much in the afternoon. Though I have plans in the evening.
In the next second, the flowers are handed to me. Standing against the backdrop of the misty rain, Victor’s expression exudes tenderness.
Victor: I prepared this for a certain dummy.
Accepting the flowers, I burst into a grin.
MC: Come to think of it, what are you doing here? Are you looking for Curator Kim?
Victor brushes off the water droplets on my shoulder. Instead of giving me an answer, he tilts his head upwards and responds with a question.

Victor: Are you here at this time for the “Snail Mail” event?
MC: Mm. The event will officially begin tomorrow, so I’m here to check up on this place again.
Victor: Looks like you’ve been listening to what I say. At least in work, you’ve become more conscientious. Not bad. It’s a good thing.
I straighten up, eyes crinkling as I respond.
MC: Of course! I’ve always been a very serious and responsible producer.
I place a lot of emphasis on the word “always”, and mirth appears in Victor’s eyes.
Victor: Let’s go then. I have some time, so I’ll accompany you to have a look. And also see if there’s a correlation between the state of the venue and your self-praise.
They take a look around the garden, and Victor’s gaze lingers on mailboxes on the wall at the back:
Everyone who sends Future Mail can write down the exact time they wish for it to be sent - whether it be a month later, a year later, or five years later.
The staff would then add a heart-shaped postmark. After slipping it into the mailbox, it’d be considered as sending a “gift to the future”.
On the wall behind the mailboxes, numerous stamps form the words “Snail Mail”, as well as the small words on the bottom right: A gift to the future.
Noticing Victor’s gaze, I move closer to him with a joyful smile.
MC: Don’t you find the name of the theme very creative?

Victor: “A gift to the future”... did you come up with this?
My eyes light up, and I nod quickly.
Victor: I could tell it was your style the moment I heard it - flashy and without substance.
MC: ...how is it flashy and without substance?
MC: Do you still remember the special episode on “Feelings” from before? Actually, this theme was inspired by that episode. Giving gifts is a common way to express how one feels. But it’s not that easy to send a gift to the future. With Future Mail, the sender can convey their feelings and surprises in this gift to the other party across time.
Victor is silent for a while, an unreadable depth in his eyes.
Victor: ...I see. I can more or less understand today’s Future Mail.
MC: Huh?
I furrow my brows. Before I can clarify what he means, Victor has already walked closer to the wall, pointing at the words formed by the stamps.
Victor: Why did you use stamps to form the words?
MC: To complement the idea of “Future Mail”. Even though few people use stamps nowadays, I feel they better convey the idea of sending something. For example, this one! It might look unremarkable, but its journey is hardly normal.
I raise my head, pointing to a stamp at the corner with slightly yellowed edges.
MC: In a time before the development of communication technology, an elderly man, who was still a young boy at the time, pasted this stamp on a letter and sent it out.
MC: By the time the letter reached its destination, the elderly man had already proposed to the elderly woman. Because it was lost, it took a whole two years for the letter to arrive...
MC: Back then, the elderly man would never have guessed that this letter would go through an unexpected turn of events to become a gift to the future.
MC: How does that sound - from its form to its stories, they all tally with the theme of the event, don’t they?
Victor: The creativity is satisfactory. You did a lot of homework. No wonder you have the confidence to praise yourself.
Gaining his affirmation, satisfaction bubbles in my heart. Pulling on his hand, we walk to a table at a corner.
MC: If we’re talking about creativity, it doesn’t stop at the words formed using stamps!
Victor picks up the small, red lacquered crescent-shaped block, holding it on his palm.
Victor: You’re referring to this?
MC: Mm, poe divination is definitely considered creative!
[Trivia] Poe divination is a traditional Chinese divination method where a pair of crescent-shaped wooden or bamboo blocks is thrown on the ground, with the positions of the blocks determining the divine answer
Clearing my throat, I use my most serious and stern expression to explain this “creativity”
MC: After all, it’s sent to a future which is filled with uncertainty. So people will definitely struggle in deciding if they should send such a gift. At this point, the poe divination blocks will contain the answer.
Victor suddenly leans a little closer, tapping my forehead with a bent finger.
Victor: Are you sure you didn’t prepare it just because you like it?
MC: ...
MC: When faced with unknown circumstances and being unable to make a decision, many people will wish to borrow some help from “fate’s direction”.
MC: It’s been statistically proven!
Victor: ...you always have a reason for everything.
A gust of wind carrying water droplets courses in through the window. Victor turns his head to gaze outside the window. Beside the enclosed corridor, a small candy coloured shed is concealed behind the trees.
Victor: Is that shed also part of this “creativity”?
MC: Not only that. It’s the “secret weapon” of this event - a shed for Future Mail videos!
Victor ponders for a moment.
Victor: From what I understand from the words, it’s a gift where videos are sent at a scheduled time?
MC: That’s right. Even though letters and objects are more ceremonial in nature, videos could be even more vivid and interesting.
I suddenly think of something while speaking, and grip his sleeve.
MC: Victor, why don’t we give it a try first? I haven’t officially seen how a recording would look like.
Right after I finish speaking, Victor tilts his face downwards, his lips pursed together slightly. Seeing his expression, the answer I predicted is readied--
Victor: I’m not interested.
...as expected.
MC: Just a short two minutes of recording will do... it’s so meaningful!
I attempt to canvass my explanation. Before I can weave together what I prepared, a stranger’s voice pipes up.
Staff: Hello, may I know if you’re Miss MC?
Before us stands a young man who is dressed in the attire of an employee of the garden.
MC: I am. Is something the matter?
Staff: That’s great. We just discovered that there seems to be a few more decorations. Could you come take a look?
MC: Sure, I’ll be there immediately!
Watching as I immediately become enlivened, Victor speaks faintly.
Victor: I can see that you’re very invested in this event.
MC: As long as I’m doing something, I’ll give it my all. You were the one who taught me this.
I tilt my head cheekily, but Victor looks as though he’s deep in thought.
Victor: So... the reason why you took up this “Snail Mail” event was simply because of the program?
MC: Yes... should there be another reason?
Staring at him a little blankly, I have no idea what it could be.
Victor: Nothing. You should go ahead.
I walk towards the door, but hesitate and swivel my head around because of his words. Seeing that Victor is remaining silent, I turn back, deciding to complete the work on hand first.
Watching the girl’s back as she runs off, Victor’s gaze returns to the small shed not afar off. Mottled lights are cast onto his face, and his expression can’t be seen clearly.
After a while, he turns and walks towards the small shed.
-
By the time they leave the camellia garden, evening has begun to set in and the rain has stopped
MC thought Victor would bring her to Souvenir for dinner, but the car stops at his house instead
Thinking of how I’d get to enjoy Chef Victor’s “special dinner”, I place the bouquet on the coffee table and happily plop myself onto the sofa.
MC: Huff... I can finally have dinner. What should I order... With so many things I want to eat, it’s suddenly a little perplexing.
Seeing my slightly sly smile, Victor tosses a sweeping glance at me, then sits on the sofa as well.
Victor: Take your time to decide.

Victor: First, come here. Look at this. I received this in the morning.
From a gift box at the corner of the coffee table, Victor retrieves a sheet of paper which resembles an envelope. On the back of it, I think I see--
A heart-shaped postmark?!
I hurriedly straighten up, wanting to grab it from Victor’s hand. Apart from the letter, there seems to be an exquisite-looking, petite bottle...
MC: ...camellia essential oil?
The words slip out of my mouth.
After Victor and I visited the maze in the camellia garden back then, the staff gave us a bottle of camellia essential oil which was made in the garden.
As pre-opening guests, Victor and I were the first to walk out of the maze. And this bottle of essential oil was also their first unique gift.
This unique prize seemed to be telling me that no matter which direction I choose, as long as I keep moving forward, I’ll definitely be on the same path as Victor in the end.
Back then, I had “monopolised” this bottle of essential oil, which carried the sentiments I couldn’t say aloud.
MC: I remember hiding this bottle of essential oil once I got home. Why is it with you?
Victor: Are you sure? Think through it again.
Sensing Victor’s deep gaze, a forgotten memory surfaces in my mind...
[ flashback ]
A while after parting with Victor, a small shop brimming with warmth comes into view.
MC: “Snail Mail”... what does this mean?”
Filled with curiosity, I push the doors open and enter. With the staff’s explanation, I finally get the meaning of this shop’s Future Mail.
MC: It sounds really interesting - I’ll send him a gift then! What should I send?
Biting the pen cap, I stare at the white letter paper and suddenly see the bottle of essential oil, which is still causing undulating emotions in my heart...
[ end of flashback ]
Victor: Looks like you remember now.
When the faraway memory returns, I suddenly understand what Victor was referring to when he said “I see” after I had explained the theme earlier in the afternoon.
The sky gradually clears up after the rain, and the corners of Victor’s lips seem to be dyed with the warmth of sunset. He looks at the letter in his hand.

Victor: “To a certain ‘CEO Victor’ who always surprises me.”
Without warning, Victor actually starts reading out the contents of the letter! I subconsciously try to stop him.
MC: You’re not allowed to read it out!
As though he didn’t hear my objection, Victor continues reading in a composed manner.
Victor: “Even though you’re taciturn most of the time, and love criticising me mercilessly, you always bring me unexpected hope whenever I'm at my wit’s end...”
Hearing Victor’s unchanging tone of voice, this somewhat “public confession” causes me to turn completely red in the face.
MC: S-stop reading it!
I reach out to snatch the letter, but Victor simply raises his long arm, easily lifting it out of reach.

Victor: It’s a letter you wrote yourself. Why aren’t you letting me read it?
MC: ...just give it back to me!
Seizing an opening, I pounce forward fiercely, but am still not as fast as his sharp eyes and deft hands.
Abruptly losing my balance and slipping on my feet, I stumble towards Victor. Instinctively, I reach out to grab something to stabilise myself--
Rip--
Accompanying a soft sound, a button ends up in my hand. I lift my head in astonishment, only to be greeted by Victor’s suddenly loosened tie and bare skin...
It turns out that I accidentally tore off the button near his neckline!
Glancing at his chest, I subconsciously swallow the words I was planning to say. I stuff the button into his hand, then quietly huddle in a corner.
MC: ...here, the button.

Victor: Looks to me like the state of your cerebellum deserves to be re-assessed.
[Trivia] The cerebellum is the part of the brain responsible for a number of functions including motor skills such as balance, coordination, and posture :’D
MC: I didn’t do it on purpose!
MC: It’s your fault for reading the letter aloud.
Victor: Sophistry.
Thinking that Victor would continue with his criticisms, he unexpectedly sets the letter down, then retrieves the essential oil in the box.
Victor: Not reading the letter is fine. Tell me - why did you send this bottle of essential oil to me using Future Mail?

Victor turns his head towards a still-blushing me, as he unhurriedly tugs his neckline closed. I take the unopened bottle from him, and give it some thought.
MC: I didn't put in much thought back then. I was really happy when we were at the camellia garden together...
MC: And this bottle of essential oil seemed to be telling me--
MC: That no matter which direction I choose, you’ll definitely be the first, and the only person to walk the same path with me.
MC: The reason why I sent it using Future Mail was so that you’d re-experience the beautiful memories I did after a period of time, and feel how I felt.
After hearing this, Victor’s brows soften, and he looks to be in a pretty good mood.
Opening the bottle, I take a whiff. Even after such a long time, the fragrance of camellias is still clear and refreshing.
MC: Does essential oil have such a long shelf life? It’s not spoilt at all! Take a whiff - isn’t it still very fragrant?
Watching him arch his brows in objection, I purse my lips. Something occurs to me, and my eyes crinkle as I hold the bottle in front of him.
MC: Why don’t I sacrifice myself for a while! I’ve been so busy with this event that my neck and shoulders are sore. I wonder if I have the honour of troubling CEO Victor to give me a shoulder rub? We could also test if the essential oil is still effective.
Victor doesn’t take it, but shifts his gaze towards me.
Victor: ...you’re ordering me to give you a massage? The reason you found was very pompous. Are you sure you’re sacrificing yourself?
I smile, ignoring his protests and stuffing the bottle into his hands. Then, I lift my hair up, turning to the side to signal that he should hurry up.
A while later, along with a sigh, the cooling liquid is gently dripped onto my neck region.
Victor: You’re sitting so far away. It’s not my problem if its effectiveness is compromised.

I immediately scoot backwards, shifting slightly closer to him. Victor laughs like he’s in a good mood, gently encircling me into his chest.
Separated by the thin, see-through gauze material of my clothes, it’s as though his hand is directly on my skin, soaking it with the warmth of his palm. I subconsciously hold my breath.
Victor: Is this the place which feels uncomfortable?
MC: A little more to the left.
Victor: Here?
MC: Mm... around there.
Just as I prepare to doze off and properly enjoy this experience, the soft fingers suddenly move away. Victor shifts slightly, leaning close to my neck.
The searing breaths from his nose course through the air, descending on the nape of my neck like the quivering wings of a cicada. It feels warm and ticklish.
Victor: The fragrance isn’t bad. Looks like it still has effectiveness.
His baritone voice comes from behind me. He sets down the bottle, and finally kneads my neck gently.
Without realising it, the afterglow of dusk breaks through the earlier overcast, casting golden light spots across the bright and spacious living room.
Victor’s hand is still around my waist, and I relax, resting against his shoulder.
On the coffee table, the shadow cast by the bottle is drawn out by the setting sun. Looking at the bouquet of camellias and thinking about the chance encounter in the afternoon, my heart suddenly stirs.
MC: Victor, the reason you were there today... Was it because you received the gift, thought about how we went to the camellia garden before, and wanted to revisit it?

Victor: You’ve finally come around.
My lips curl up in satisfaction.
MC: When you first received the gift, did you feel astonished, surprised, and touched?
Victor: ...I received your fevered imagination.
Victor: But I was slightly touched.

Victor: Just like what you said in the afternoon, this gift cut across time and awakened past memories and feelings.
I lift my head. The world before me has shrunk infinitely, and can only accommodate his smiling eyes, and the tiny me reflected in them.
With such close proximity, the surroundings seem to be dyed with Victor’s unique scent, causing my heart to feel warm and contented.
Victor: Although Future Mail is uncommon, whether it’s Future Mail or express mail, they are all just mediums.
Victor: The feelings they contain - that's the important thing.
Victor: This unexpected gift... just like what you intended when you sent it, enables me to sense your feelings.
Victor: To me, that is its significance.
I blink, smiling with great happiness.
MC: Come to think of it, I also want to receive the feelings given to me from someone...
As the colours of the afterglow grow heavier, Victor’s side profile is layered with a soft halo.

Just when I think he has nothing more to say, Victor’s lips curve into a smile.

Victor: Perhaps you can look forward to it.
MC: Hm? Look forward to what?
With this, he stands up and heads into the kitchen. No matter how much I probe, he remains indifferent. Resigned, I have no choice but to give up.
The faint yellow light of the kitchen illuminates Victor’s shoulders. Basking in the warm halo, the air surrounding him is especially tender.
-
A month passes by quickly, and the Future Mail event is completed successfully.
On this early morning, I suddenly receive a package. When I remove the plastic covering, there’s an envelope with a heart-shaped postmark on top of the gift box.
My heartbeat stutters out of rhythm.
Carefully opening the box, I see a videotape and a photograph. Picking up the photograph, I’m greeted by familiar, bold handwriting:
“Looks like you should have received this Future Mail. Apart from supporting your event, I’m only going to do this once. This will not be repeated. The things I want to say to you are all in this videotape. It only belongs to you.”
Morning sunlight filters in through the curtains, illuminating the bedroom floor, and also gently illuminating my heart...

Letters- Marco Peña x reader, best friend!Noah Flynn x reader
@nick-1432 asked: Hey Can I get a Marco ×Y/n imagine where the reader is Noah's best friend but a year younger than him . So is in the same year as Lee and Elle . You decide the rest .
A/N: Thankyou for this prompt! This is an AU so before we begin I’d like to note that Marco and Elle didn’t kiss in this universe- her and Noah had their issues but she never cheated. I decided to make this into a secret admirer fic- enjoy! :)
Feel free to send in any prompts!
“So, how is it going with Elle nowadays?”
Noah grinned; the facetime screen glitching as it rushed to keep up with his widened features, “Yeah, it’s going better. I’ve decided that communication definitely is key and we were lacking it before.”
“So you did take my advice!” You giggled and fist-pumped the air, “So everything I say isn’t complete rubbish.”
“You didn’t know that already?” Noah raised his eyebrows and moved closer to the camera from where he had been showing off the apartment’s new microwave, “You’ll be here at Harvard with me in no time.”
“Yeah well,” You shrugged bashfully, leaning back in your desk chair, “I’ve got to actually hear back from them before that can happen.”
“It will.” Noah insisted before smirking slightly, “I may have even put in word with the dean for you.”
“Noah!” Your eyes widened as you slammed a hand down onto your desk, “You didn’t?!”
“I did.”
“Jesus,” You huffed, shaking your head at the camera, “You’re a sneaky bastard.”
“Takes one to know one, bitch.”
You both laughed at that, the both of you letting out snorts and silly giggles as you clutched at your sides and leaned back dangerously in your chair. Though before you could reply back with a cutting retort your dad came into the room.
“Hey sweetheart, there’s a letter for you.”
You held up your finger in a ‘one moment’ gesture to Noah and put yourself on mute, “Who is it from?”
“No clue,” He shrugged and handed you a white envelope with your name on, “It just came through the mail box and by the time I got there whoever delivered it was gone.”
“Oh,” You turned the letter over once, twice before giving your dad a polite smile, “Thanks.”
He nodded in reply and left your room, shutting the door behind him, “What is it?” Noah’s voice sounded from your laptop, you quickly took yourself off mute and held the letter up to the camera.
“A letter, no idea who it’s from though.”
“Well open it.” That earned him a glare, but he did have a point- you wouldn’t know who it was from if you never opened it.
It was a standard white envelope, though it only had your name written on it meaning it had been posted straight into your mailbox by the sender themselves. Not creepy at all, you snorted to yourself. After pondering for a few moments, you hastily flipped the letter over and ripped it open, Noah winced at your ferocity in doing so. Inside the envelope was a slip of paper folded in half; it was white and there were pen marks that sunk through it.
“Well?”
“Calm your farm,” You muttered, glaring at Noah again, “I’m getting to it.”
Unfolding the paper, you began to read the note. The handwriting was elegant and familiar- though you couldn’t place where you recognised it.
Dear Y/N,
I’m just going to cut straight to the chase here, I like you. A lot. I have for a long time now and I just can’t keep it to myself anymore. So there you go.
Yours sincerely,
Your secret admirer.
“Oh my god.”
“What?”
“Oh my god.”
“Y/N?” Noah stared at you through the screen, looking increasingly concerned, “Who is it from?”
“I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know?”
You breathed, scratching your eyebrow before saying, “I mean, it’s from my secret admirer.”
“Your what now?”
“My secret admirer.”
To your utter shock, Noah barked out a loud laugh and clapped his hands together- extremely amused at the revelation, “A secret admirer? What is this, middle school?”
“I know right?” You huffed, placing the letter down onto your desk, “It is kind of cute though.”
Noah raised an eyebrow and leaned forward on his elbows, “I’ll be the judge of that, let’s hear it.”
You read the contents of the letter out to Noah- who looked like he was holding back a laugh the whole time. You huffed at him, tilting your head to the side and practically pouting once you finished, “Stop.”
“What?” Noah snorted, elongating the word slightly as he attempted to come as innocent. You returned this with a raised eyebrow and crossed arms, “Alright, alright. I have to admit it’s pretty cute...who do you think it could be then?”
You shrugged, there were hundreds of people at your school alone, let alone the whole of LA, “I have no clue.”
“What if it’s Marco?”
You laughed at the sheer stupidity of Noah’s words, almost wiping away tears once you were done, “As if.”
“What?” Noah crowed, frowning, “I’m serious, when I was around he used to stare at you all the time. I doubt he’s changed much, if your wardrobe change over the summer is anything to go by.”
“In my dreams, Flynn.”
-
Despite your original rejection of Noah’s statement, it stuck in your mind for days to come. You weren’t going to lie, you had caught Marco staring at you a number of times; the reason for that being that you had been staring at him too. You had liked Marco for months, the boy’s dark curly hair and gorgeous build had you enamoured from the get-go. But, then you had been paired together for a project and you’d really gotten to know him. Although at times he could be blunt and quite cold; he was hilarious and really intelligent. Seeing the personality behind the pretty face had caused you to fall fast, but eventually the project was over and daily interactions became shy smiles in passing. Sure, your friendship groups crossed paths from time to time but you just didn’t have the confidence to start anything. So, you were stuck with a relentless crush. Gross.
You were at your locker on Tuesday, rifling through it as you searched for the textbook you had left in there and desperately needed. As your fingers finally swiped across the book, they were also met with a different slip of paper. You paused, heart speeding as you slowly pulled it out. It couldn’t be.
Nevertheless, in your hand lay a slip of paper identical to the one that you had received a few days prior- you once again unfolded it and got to reading the note within.
Dear Y/N,
Now that I have expressed the way I feel, I have an urge to tell you more.
Your smile is so beautiful and your laugh lights up the room. The way you always tuck your hair behind your ears is really cute too.
Yours sincerely,
Your secret admirer
A blush highlighted your cheeks as you subconsiously tucked your hair behind your ears, almost slapping yourself for doing so. No, you were not going to let a few little compliments break you down like that- but then your eyes landed upon the small heart illustrated below the sign off. You swallowed heavily and fanned yourself in an excuse to compose yourself before your next class begin. You spotted Lee, Elle and Rachel heading your way and shoved the letter into your bag before skipping over to them with your usual bright smile as if nothing was wrong.
-
The letters continued like that; they were always in your locker and they always entailed some form of compliment. You found yourself expecting them most mornings, running to your locker to see whether or not a note had been slipped into the grates whilst you weren’t around.
One particular morning, you were in a frenzied rush- sprinting to your locker in order to grab the essentials so that your day wouldn’t be a complete flop. As you wrenched open your locker you spotted another familiar letter, with a huff you shoved it into your pocket before practically pouring your belongings into your bag. You’d read it later, you had to focus on actually getting to class.
Thankfully, you did arrive to the class on time. But, you were last and the teacher was moments away from beginning the lesson.
“Nice of you to join us, Miss L/N”
“Sorry miss,” You twisted your lips apologetically before making your way to the only seat in the class, which was positioned right in the middle of two ‘popular’ girls, “Shit.” You muttered before ultimately sucking it up. Your friends on the other side of the room each shot you sympathetic looks.
After a quick observation, you noted that Marco was sat one row back and directly diagonal to you. The girls on either side of you were each twirling their hair and blowing their bubble gum obnoxiously, paying no mind to the lesson before them. You decided to just get to work, ignoring the possibility of a pair of eyes watching from behind.
About half way through the lesson, you were reminded of the unread letter that had been shoved into your pocket in your rush. Checking the room for any intrusive eyes, you took the note from your pocket and began to read.
Dear Y/N,
You look really beautiful when you-
Before you could continue to read the letter, it was wrenched out of your hands violently by one of the girls beside you.
“Now what do we have here?” She giggled, moving with unexpected stealth as you tried to take back the letter, “Aw, you look really beautiful when you concentrate, yours sincerely your secret admirer.” A chorus of giggles sounded from the students surrounding you as you sat in shock, mortification evident in your features.
“Who would want to be their secret admirer?” A voice sounded from behind you, “She’s lucky enough to be friends with Noah Flynn.”
Yet another chorus of laughs sounded from around you, but before you could escape from the personal hell that was this classroom, a voice sounded from diagonal to you, “I want to be.”
The room froze and time slowed down as you turned to the owner of the voice, your eyes landing on Marco who was staring right back at you; nervousness with a hint of determination was evident in his eyes. You shook your head, feeling way too overwhelmed, “I can’t do this.”
The entire class watched as you gathered up your belongings and hightailed out of the room and as Marco did exactly the same and sprinted after you.
“Y/N! Y/N!” You wiped the streaming tears from your face as you turned to face Marco who was quickly approaching you, his face was split open in a mix of raw emotions.
“What Marco? If this is some kind of sick joke I don’t want to hear it.”
“No, no Y/N.” He cooed, taking hold of your wrists in an attempt to calm you down, “I wasn’t joking. I was the one who sent the letters- I really like you Y/N and I couldn’t watch them talking about you like that.”
You hiccuped, feeling a fresh trail of tears falling from your eyes, leaving a glistening trail in their wake, “Oh god.”
“Hey, hey. Don’t cry.”
“But Marco-” You blew out a breath and almost preened under his gaze, “I haven’t spoken to you in months, how could you like me?”
“Well,” He began, moving a stray hair behind your ear, “Did you not read my letters.”
You laughed lightly, a small burst of breaths coming from your mouth, “Yeah, but-”
“Then what I said there are my reasons for liking you.”
You grinned up at him as your teeth sunk into your lip bashfully, you caught onto his eyes zeroing onto that factor. So, you took a leap and pressed your lips against his and moved to bury your hands into his hair. He responded immediately, cupping your cheeks with his hands as he pressed back with obvious enthusiasm and want.
-
“So, you were right- it was Marco.”
“I knew it!”

First Love | 03
Yoongi x reader | 18+ | college au | tattoo artist au | angst | fluff | swearing
Word: 2k
You first saw him in the multi-purpose room. Later learn his name, and on your third year, as he becomes your neighbor, you discover his lifestyle. Knowing your crush on him was nothing but that, you wanted to find the courage to look for love. Asking your friend for help, you’re pointed in the direction of the expert. Your neighbor, Min Yoongi
Chapter Index
You stare down at your phone in confusion.
[5:29 pm] Jerk: Multi-purpose room. 9pm.
“I thought he didn't want to meet in public?” you mumble, locking the screen to your phone before hopping into the shuttle. You take a seat at the front, sitting by the window. You can’t help but wonder what it is that he wants today—especially in the multi-purpose room where people hang out all the time.
As the shuttle takes off, you watch the people pass by as the vehicle makes two more stops on campus before driving off campus and heading towards your dorm. The ride is rather quiet, with two or three people sitting further in the back as you listen to the melody of the song playing through your earphones.
By the time you reach the dorms, the sun is gone, and you only have an hour to grab dinner before the dining hall closes. You're not expecting to study for so long, but with your first big exam coming up, you need to study as much as possible. Exiting the shuttle, you make your way straight towards the dining hall. After doing your usual routine: ID, food, sit and eat, you’re making your way towards your room. You check the time on your phone and can’t help but let out a sigh as you read the time. With only an hour of time to prepare before you throw yourself into the social world, you enter your room to lie in bed, your feet dangling off the edge, and charge yourself.
“You’re going to bed already?” Ari asks, as you collapse face first on your bed. Your reply is a mumble, resulting in her saying, “What? I can’t understand you.”
You sigh, turning your head to look at her. “He wants to meet in the MPR,” you say again.
“Oh. Ew. You have to socialize downstairs?” You let out a whiney moan in response. “What time are you supposed to meet him?” she questions.
“Nine.”
You can see her look of disgust as she stares at you. “Who does that?”
“Apparently him,” you tell her. “Can you text him for me and tell him I died?”
She laughs. “You think he won’t just come up here and drag you out? He is our neighbor after all.”
“He is not that dedicated to helping me.”
“Helping you, probably not—no offence, but getting help from Hoseok just to help you? He’s beyond dedicated,” she informs.
You push yourself up, only to slide off the bed. “Hoseok is helping Yoongi just so Yoongi can help me because I asked Hoseok for help?”
You can see the slight look of confusion on her face from the way you worded the question, but she tells you, “Yeah. I told him he doesn’t have to, but he insisted, so you have to go through with this.”
You want to tell her to have Hoseok stop. He shouldn’t have to go through such lengths just to help you, but when you remembered the excited look on his face when you asked for help, you can’t ask Ari to stop him. You run your hands through your hair. “Fine,” you mumble.
As nine creeps closer, your heart and mind race until eventually, it’s time for you to go downstairs.
With all the courage you can muster, you leave your room with Ari giving you the thumbs up. That courage immediately dies when you reach the bottom step to the first floor. All you have to do is walk out the door, walk past the first floor laundry room, and past the mailboxes. Then you’re standing at the doorway to the MPR. When you finally exit the stairwell, the laundry room next to you with the sound of both the washers and dryers running, you can hear the large group of people.
You feel like you’re going to throw up. Who knew that socializing would freak you out this much. It’s ridiculous.
Taking in a deep breath, you make your way towards the doorway, but that doesn't stop your racing heart. When you enter the room, you’re not expecting this many people. Usually the room has a few people scattered around all doing their own thing, but this place looks like it’s supposed to be a club with how many people are dancing and chatting with each other. Some even have red cups in their hands. You can't help but wonder if they’re drinking alcohol since it isn't allowed with plenty of underage students. That doesn’t stop them though. It is college after all.
“You got this,” you whisper to yourself, fists clenching as you enter the room. You’re so lost in your own anxiety that you don’t even notice the blasting music until you’re standing in the outskirts of the crowd, watching them dance. They all look like they’re having fun, and you wish you can have fun like them, but you’ve never liked parties all that much. Too many people in one place, all clustered together scares you. It makes you want to leave, and it drains you trying to speak with a few people. Even now, as you watch a boy approach you, you feel yourself draining and fighting the urge to leave.
“Hey,” he somewhat yells over the blaring music.
“Hi,” you force out.
He’s rather tall, his brown hair slightly gelled backed, wearing a green hoodie and black jeans. He looks pleasant and extremely friendly.
“I know this is so random of me to come up to you, a complete stranger, but my boyfriend is forcing me to introduce myself.” He sticks his hand out toward you. “I'm Christopher.”
You shake his hand a bit skeptical. “Y/N.” You shake your head. “Why is your boyfriend forcing you to introduce yourself to me?” you can't help but ask.
He smiles awkwardly. “I'm trying to become an RA next year, so he's forcing me to practice my bright personality and be more friendly.”
You nod. “Ah. Okay.”
Suddenly another person appears, a big expectant smile on his face. “How did he do?”
“Uh… he was friendly,” you tell him.
It seems to be all they need to hear as they chat to one another happily, seeming to ignore you after that. Giving you a sign to walk away, you quickly slip away from the excited couple and make yourself go deeper in the room, but still in the outskirts.
Your eyes wander around the crowd, but there is no sign of Yoongi. Why did he tell you to come if he isn't even going to show up himself? You don't want to give him the benefit of the doubt, so you wait.
That was the dumbest thing you've ever done. After standing around for almost an hour, staring at everyone like some creeper, your ball your hands into a fist. You’re fuming. “That jerk,” you whisper. Without much thought, you’re heading for the exit.
You’re going to give him a piece of your mind when you see him again. What did you ever see in him in the first place? He’s a jerk who clearly only cares about himself. He's probably with some girl in his room. That only makes you even more mad.
You quickly walk around the room and leave, leaving the happy and social crowd. You stomp your way past the mailboxes, past the window that shows into the small room that only contains a round table and several chairs where students study together or alone, and pass the door to the dorm supervisor before reaching the door that leads to the stairwell and the student dorms.
You pull out your ID, pressing it against the chip card reader. With the sound of a beep, you pull the door open and step into the stairwell.
You walk up the two flights of stairs until you reach the third floor and make a right towards your hall. Before you can pass the doorway that leads to your hall, a voice calls out, “Not sociable at all.”
You jump, turning around to find the culprit. Sitting at the third flight of stairs that lead to the roof, Yoongi looks up from his phone at you, his elbows propped on his knees. After your heart slows to a normal pace, you glare at him. “Where were you? Why tell me to go to the MPR if you weren’t even going to show?”
“I told you to arrive at the MPR so that I can see how you interact with others and how you act in a party.” He stands up, walking down the stairs until he reaches the last step. He stares down at you, hands in the pockets of his gray sweats. The way he stares at you makes your heart race. It’s ridiculous that even though you hate the way he acts since you’ve met him a month ago, your heart disobeys your thoughts and races whenever he looks at you. What are you to do? What are you supposed to do when your feelings for him still linger even though you know who he is?
He takes that final step, being one step closer to you, and forcing you to step back. He cocks his head ever so slightly to the side. “Do you have social anxiety?”
You try to not look as shocked as you do, but you know your eyes are wide and mouth slightly open as if he caught you stealing. Are you that easy to read? How could he know?
“What makes you think that?” you question, trying to play it off like you don’t. It isn’t working.
He crosses his arms over his chest. “A friend of mine has social anxiety. He glances at doors when he’s desperate to leave. In the MPR, I noticed you kept glancing at the door and your lips were slightly moving as if you were talking to yourself.”
“And that gives you the idea that I have anxiety?”
“My friend does the same thing. He’ll talk to himself to keep himself from running out of that room. He doesn’t like being by himself. Everyone is different, but if I’m wrong, and you don’t have social anxiety, tell me now so that I can correct myself,” he tells you.
“Correct yourself how?” you ask, voice not as confident as it was before.
“If you don’t have social anxiety, you’re going to a party so I can see how you flirt with people,” he answers, brow raised.
He knows. The way he’s staring at you with that expression that just says he knows you do. If you deny his allegations, you’ll eventually end up at a party full of people trying to flirt. They’ll judge you harshly, and that is not what you want. You cross your arms over your chest, mimicking his stance.
“Okay, so I have social anxiety, what does that have to do with anything?”
He sighs, “It means that I have to teach and evaluate everything myself. Lessons will be more private rather than me watching you and telling you what to do differently.”
You stare at him for a moment, processing the words he just said. “Private?” you whisper.
He nods. “We’ll be in my room a lot more that we both like,” he finishes, walking around you and down the hall towards his room. He leaves you there in complete and utter shock.
What are you going to do? What in the world are you going to do?
You don’t have to do this.
No one is forcing you.
But if you were to quit, would Hoseok’s feelings be hurt because you quit?
You couldn’t do that to him.
The sound of laughter brings you out of your thoughts. You turn around and walk down the hallway and enter your room. Ari looks up from her phone, a leg dangling over her bed.
“If I feel uncomfortable at any moment, I quit,” you tell her, with every ounce of courage you can muster.
She nods. “Any ounce of discomfort, you quit immediately, and I kick Yoongi’s ass.”
You let out a breath.
You’re in for a rollercoaster.

Of Rocks and Robots Ch. 33 -Don't Mole On My Parade

"Beware evil doers, for I, the mighty Minimax, doth roam the streets with my trusted partner Fred, along with his newest protégé Varian, and together we plan to buy a DVD!"
Varian watched the small robot jump upon a mailbox to proclaim this lofty goal. The little automaton looked just like his namesake, a mini Baymax, but his behavior was far different from the robotic nurse. Hiro had built him to be a sidekick for Fred and so the robot acted just as if he came out of a silver age comic.
"Hey Fred?" Varian asked.
"Yeah?"
"What happened to 'keeping a superhero's identity secret is rule number one in the hallows of superherodom'?"
His friend looked back at him confused, "It is. Why?"
"Because your robot pal isn't exactly what I would call ' inconspicuous'. Aren't you worried someone might recognize him and, you know, put two and two together?"
Fred looked surprised, as if he had never considered this possibility. After a moment's thought he called after his robotic companion.
"You know, your right. Hey Minimax,
come here, you need a disguise."
The little android dutifully ran up to the teen and Fred pulled out a pair of sunglasses and placed them upon its head.
"There! How does that look?"
"Like a small white robot wearing sunglasses."
"Exactly! Usually he wears a cape when he's superheroing."
"You seriously don't expect people to be fooled by a pair of glasses do you?"
"Why not? It worked for Henry Reeve. He played Captain Fancy in the tv show."
"Yeah but I doubt the guy was a two foot tall robot."
"As far as we know…." Fred said stone faced as he looked Varian dead in the eye; the way he often did when spouting some crazy theory that no one else believed.
Varian decided to cut his losses. There was no getting through to Fred once he latched onto an idea; regardless of how ill advised and detached from reality it was.
"So where are we going again?" Varian asked instead.
"We're going to the comic book store to buy a copy of the Professor What DVD that just came out."
"I thought you already owned every episode though?"
"I do. Of every aired episode that is. This is the "lost serial". It was recorded but never broadcast due to a production strike during the 70s and the only way to see it was through bootlegs. But now the EBC has released it in full on dvd, plus extras, like special interviews with the cast and such."
"Ok, that's cool, I guess."
"Mega cool! I can't wait to see it in all it's high definition glory!" Fred joyously squealed only to sober up as they neared the comic shop. "There's only one problem."
"What's that?"
"Richardson Mole" Fred growled.
"Mole?" Varian echoed, confused.
"My arch nemesis, remember? His is the only comic store in town that currently has any copies. The rest won't get theirs till next week!"
"Then why not wait until next week to get it then?" Varian very sensibly asked.
Fred looked at him aghast, "And let Mole gloat over getting to see it a whole week early!? Un-uh! No way! Buuuuut he won't sell me a copy; so that's why you're here."
Fred wrapped an arm around Varian's shoulder and pointed at the other teen's chest as he recounted his plan.
"You see, Minimax and I will cause a distraction drawing Mole outside. While he's gone, you quickly grab a dvd from the display stand and mix it up with a bunch of other stuff you're going to purchase and dump it all on the counter. Hopefully he'll be so annoyed by what me and Minimax have planned, that he won't notice that he sold you a copy along with all the other things you grabbed. It's the perfect plan!" Fred rubbed his hands together devilishly.
"Uh...hun….Ooor I could just walk in there and buy a copy outright instead of paying for a bunch of stuff I don't want." Varian countered.
"You know... that's so crazy…it just might work. Minimax; new plan!" Fred yelled after his robot.
----------------------
The comic shop was not much different from the store inside the mall that Fred had taken Varian to on his first day in San Fansokyo. The main difference was it was a freestanding building and the cashier was a short child perhaps only a few years younger then Varian himself.
"Hello, welcome to my sho--oh it's you, Fred." The kid interrupted his enthusiastic greeting towards Varian the moment Fred walked in behind him.
"Why hello, Mole, unpleasant as ever I see." Fred retorted back with equal disdain.
Mole only sighed and rolled his eyes. "What do you want Fred?"
"Oh contraire, it's not what I want but what my friend here wants." Fred gently but firmly nudged Varian up to the counter as he said this. "Tell him Varian."
"Uhhh...I'd like the newest Professor What DVD...the lost episode one?... P-please." Varian wasn't sure what he had expected when Fred first asked him to come along on this quest for a DVD, but being glared at by a very irritated 12 year old from across the counter wasn't it. Moreover he hated being put on the spot like this. He really had no context for this apparent feud Fred had with this kid.
"Really?" Mole raised an eyebrow. "And there's no chance that my rival Fred here didn't put you up to the task of buying the dvd for him?"
"Uh...d-does it matter?" Varian shrugged, now completely bewildered. He had assumed Fred was only exaggerating about Mole, same as he exaggerated about just everything, but no, turns out that the pre-teen really was that petty.
"Uh, of course it matters." The kid replied as if Varian had missed something obvious. "I have the only copies in town and in limited quantities. I'll only sell them to true fans of the series, otherwise someone might just buy from me and then sell it at a mark up price online or something. Now why should I give someone else that advantage when I can corner the market?"
Varian raised an eyebrow at this explanation but Fred stepped in before he could say anything.
"Hey, Varian's a fan. We've been marathoning the series. Tell him, buddy." Fred gave Varian another nudge.
"Oh really? Well then, Varian, who is your favorite Professor?" Mole's voice dripped with incredulity.
"Y-you mean there's more than one?" Varian began to ask in confusion but Fred jumped him, covering Varian's ears with his hands. Though it did little good as Varian could still hear Fred shushing Mole.
"Shhh...Careful with the spoilers Mole!"
"I knew it! I knew It!" Mole yelled back. "You just dragged your friend over here to buy the special edition dvd for you!"
"I did not!" Fred snapped back.
Minimax jumped up onto the counter and pointed a finger at Mole. "No one accuses my Fred of trickery, foul villain. For even though that is indeed the plan and you must have only deduced that with your nefarious cunning."
"Minimaaaax!" Fred whined.
Varian was losing his patience. He shoved Fred off him. "Look, yes, I came here to buy the DVD so Fred and I could watch it in our marathon. But so far we've only watched the first season and more copies are arriving in a week, so what does it matter!?"
"Wait? You've only seen season one, as in the original series first season from 1963?" Mole asked.
"Uh..Yeah?"
"That's what I was trying to tell you, Mole." Fred interrupted again. "He's going into the series completely blind. He doesn't know about… r-e-n-e-w-a-l yet."
"Renewal?" Varian echoed now even more confused. Fred had tried to drop his voice to a whisper but Varian heard anyway.
Mole's entire demeanor magically changed. Gone was his standoffish and combative nature and in its place was a look of genuine excitement.
"Ooooh, how I envy you my friend! Imagine being able to experience the whole series fresh! Oh..oh, then what's your favorite story so far?"
"Ummm...I liked the one we just finished… it's the one where they're stuck in the middle of the French Revolution."
"Interesting choice." Mole said intrigued. "So who's your favorite assistant?"
"Well I don't if she counts as an 'assistant' but my favorite character so far is the Professor's granddaughter, Sue."
"Yeees!" Mole exclaimed suddenly, taking Varian a back. "Finally, someone who sees sense! Sue is so underappreciated. You know what?" Mole continued as he reached behind the counter to pull a dvd box off the shelf. "Just to show my support in your endeavor to embark on such a daunting quest as to view the entirety of Professor What, here is the dvd to complete the collection, free of charge."
"Really?" Varian asked bewildered as Mole handed him the coveted copy.
"Yup, just come back and let me know how you enjoyed the later seasons, or stop by and maybe check out some of the other Professor What merch I got for sell."
Mole cheerily waved goodbye as Varian, Fred, and Minimax walked out of the shop.
"What just happened?" Fred asked.
Varian opened the thin box to see the disc inside. "Well, apparently your mortal enemy just gave me a free dvd."
"I don't trust it." Fred said darkly. "Mole is up to something."
"Do you want me to return it?"
"No!" Fred quickly exclaimed and reached out to grab the case. But Varian snatched it back out of his reach.
"Now, now, he did give it to me, you know." Varian said as if reprimanding a small child and a sly grin slowly formed on his face.
"Oooh, but.. But I waited years to see it… pleeesee."
Fred was practically crawling over him to get to the dvd but Varian fended him off while trying unsuccessfully to stifle his laughter.
"I'll tell you what… I'll let you have it…but for a price."
"Name it."
Varian thought for a moment. "I wanna drive the limo."
"Oh… but Heathcliff…" Fred stopped mid sentence as Varian waved the dvd in his face, his crooked smile growing wider.
"Ok. Fine." Fred relented. "But on one condition. Heathcliff has to teach you how to drive it."
"Deal."
They shook hands and Varian handed over the movie.
"Huhzzah!" Minimax proclaimed. "And once again the heroes have concluded their quest and now return home victorious!"
----------------------
"Hey Mole," Fred shouted as he sauntered into the comic shop. "Do you got any replacement parts for a limited addition Space Hike laser gun? I kind of broke mine dur---"
Fred's voice trailed off when he noticed that the little store was empty. A week had passed since he and Varian had procured the Professor What DVD and Fred hadn't seen nor heard from his nemesis in that time. Fred didn't think that was too odd, it wasn't like he and Mole talked daily or anything, but it was suspicious for his rival to leave the store unattended without closing shop first.
Fred's senses went on alert and he instinctively went into stealth mode: dropping to the ground and crouching on tiptoe as he looked for booby traps on the shelves, behind the doors, and under the displays.
He didn't find any.
Though as he ransacked the counter during his search, he did hear the distant sound of laughter and music coming from the "staff only room." Which wasn't a room really. It was an elevator that went into the basement. Mole had a private arcade down there and must have been playing video games and had simply forgotten to lock up.
Satisfied that there was no danger of a prank literally blowing up in his face and covering him in some sort of slime or soap bubbles or something else that was similarly messy (Fred never forgot that time when Mole dumped dumped a bucket of chocolate fudge on his head five years ago) he decided to go down stairs to ask Mole about the previously mentioned parts.
What he found was far worse than a bucket of chocolate syrup.
In the basement Varian and Mole were both playing a video game. It was an old stand up arcade machine and on it was a retro beat 'em up. Both seemed to be enjoying themselves and called good natured taunts as they furiously pressed buttons trying to one up the other.
Neither had noticed Fred enter.
"Oh you're going down now!" Mole cheered.
"In your dreams!" Varian laughed.
He pressed the block button and his little pixelated character averted a punch from Mole's pixelated avatar and then grabbed said character into a hold and bodied slammed him to the ground.
"K.O.!" A distorted voice from the machine announced and Varian threw up his hands in victory.
"Ah…. Man!" Mole bemoaned. "You got lucky. I had you on the rocks."
"Yeah, I did." Varian admitted with a snicker.
"Best two out of three then?" Mole asked.
"Naw.. I got an essay I need to finish bef-" Varian paused mid-sentence as he turned around and finally saw Fred. Who just stood there with his mouth agape.
"Uh...hi, Fred."
Fred just pointed his finger at them and made an unintelligible sound like a cross between a gasp and a squeal.
"How the heck did you get in here Frederickson?" Mole said irritably.
This seemed to awaken Fred from his stupor.
"Betrayal!" He shouted, still pointing his finger accusingly at them both.
"Now Fred, don't overreact." Mole chided. "My friend Varian and I were just playing a friendly little game of Street Combat."
"Friend? Friend ?! My bestest buddy and protégé playing video games with my arch nemesis and mortal rival! This just like when Captain Fancy found the Fearless Ferret robbing banks with the Toymaker in Earth's Greatest #20!"
"Fred…" Varian started to reason with a weary sigh but Fred interrupted him.
"No. I don't want to hear it!" And with that he turned around on his heel and marched back into the elevator. "But mark my words Varian, Mole can't be trusted." And with this warning he pressed the first floor button and the elevator doors closed.
Varain rolled his eyes and followed after his friend. "Sorry Mole, I gotta go smooth things over with Fred. I'll see ya later."
"Okay, oh I almost forgot" the Professor What convention is next month. You want to go?" Mole replied as Varian hurried over to the elevator.
"Yeah sure, sounds like fun." Varian answered back distractedly. "I'll see ya then." He waved bye to Mole as the door to the elevator closed.
----------------------
When the elevator opened back up Varian saw Fred stomping away down the sidewalk outside and raced after him.
"Fred! Fred, wait up!"
"Why? So that you can stab me in the back again?" Fred called after.
"Fred...you're being ridiculous."
He stopped, incensed, and fumed at Varian, "Ridiculous?! Oh, I'm being ridiculous now am I?"
"Yeah, you are." Varain stated matter-of-factly.
"Oh, I see how it is. Crazy Fred is just being paranoid again. It can't possibly be that Mole has been trying to ruin my life since he was in dippers. Seriously, when I first met him he was a week old and I had to be the one to change him. It was all downhill from there."
Varian crossed his arms and gave Fred a reproachful look.
"Oh you don't believe hun?" Fred defended, "Well did he tell you about the time he cut the power to my house so he could win the online auction for Captain Fancy 133? Or the time he spilled hot fudge on me at his 7th birthday party? How about the time he stole my prized Captain Fancy pants? Oh, or how he bought out the mech wrestling league just so I couldn't own it? And he doesn't even like wrestling!!"
Varian didn't answer and kept up his disapproving glare.
"I tell you Mole is just using you to get to me. Don't you see? It'd be the ultimate revenge if he stole my protégé away--."
"Ok, first off, I'm not your "protégé" or "apprentice" or whatever, and second off, Mole never mentioned you the entire time we've hung out. Couldn't it just be possible that he wants to be friends with me and that you're making a big deal out of nothing?"
"Oh really? Then how would you feel if I started hanging out with that princess you hate so much? Rapunzel! Yeah, wouldn't you be hurt if I became pals with your mortal enemy."
A shadow fell across Varian's face and his mildly annoyed glare transformed into cold steely gaze.
"Fred."
"Y-yeah."
"Rapunzel left me, my father, and my entire village to die. Your 'mortal enemy' just buys the same stuff that you want."
Fred looked like a man who had just had a glass of ice water splashed in his face.
"Ooookay...I-I'm beginning to see the difference…"
Now it was Varian's turn to storm off in a huff leaving Fred to stand there bewildered.
"Wait! … She did that ?!" He turned and ran after Varian. "I thought fairy tale princesses were supposed to be nice?"
"Well, they're not, and my life is not a fairy tale Fred."
Fred pouted as he tagged long after Varian, unsure of what to say now.
Varian stopped at the bus stop to wait on his ride home and Fred sheepishly stared at his shoes. After a few awkward minutes he spoke up.
"H-hey, Varian.."
"What."
"I'm sorry….maybe I overreacted a little?"
"A little?" Varian raised an eyebrow.
"Alright, a lot. But I just don't understand why you want to even hang out with Mole."
Varian heaved a heavy sigh and relented. "Look...I just, don't have many friends ok? And before I came here I didn't have any friends. So if someone invites me to hang out with them then I wanna go. Cause that doesn't happen often, and I don't like being alone, and....and Mole doesn't know who I am or about my past. Same as Carol, or Karmi… It's just nice to feel normal for once."
"Annnd you can't feel normal around me cause I know you're magic, right?"
"For the last time Fred, I'm not magic." He growled through his teeth and then in a gentler voice said. "Also, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, you're not normal."
"Fair. Though, if we're talking 'normal' I don't think Mole counts either."
"Maybe not, but I don't think he has a lot of friends either. I guess in that way we have something in common."
Fred looked thoughtfully at that. It was true, Mole really didn't have any friends; a combination of homeschooling and being a huge nerd had left the kid pretty isolated. Fred understood that. He'd been there too, but then again he wasn't a huge jerk to people.
"I still don't get it…. Buuutt if you want to hang out with Mole I'm not going to try and stop you."
"And you're not going to pitch a fit, or sulk, or argue with me if I do?"
Fred heaved a sigh. "No. I'll be very mature about it….also very confused…but I'll be cool, promise."
"So we're still friends?" Varian asked with some slight trepidation.
"Well of course we're still friends! That was never in question. Friends have fights sometimes, ya know, but they always stick together in the end."
He gave Varian a playful nudge on the shoulder and Varian smiled back.

Big Hero Six walked away from the college campus and headed towards the parking lot where Wasabi had parked his car. The gang of teenagers laughed and conversed until the squeal of tires on pavement sounded off in the distance and the sound of motor revving became louder and louder.
Soon a fire red sports car came barreling down the drive towards them. They jumped back as the car skidded to a halt next to them, making black marks on the pavement.
The little group stared in shock at the close call and a window rolled down to reveal the driver.
"Hey guys!" Varian cheerfully called out, oblivious to the fright he had caused them.
"Varian, what are you doing!?" Wasabi yelled.
"Oh, Heathcliff is giving me driving lessons."
The Frederickson's faithful butler tilted his head to give the other teens a better look at him. He was dressed in his usual work attire but save for the pair of sunglasses he wore. He said nothing but his stoic face broke into a sly grin and he gave a thumbs up. He was clearly enjoying being chauffeured around for a change.
"Yeah, Fred let me borrow his car to practice with." Varian continued and then turned to the man sitting beside him. "You were right Heathcliff, this is cooler than the limo."
At this Gogo punched Fred in the right arm.
"Oww, what was that for?" He rubbed his arm ruefully.
"You never let me borrow the race car!" She said deeply offended.
Hiro also gave Fred's left arm a much lighter smack just to get his attention. "Yeah, and I got a learners permit; same as Varian."
"Yeah but I'll get my actual license before you so I need the practice more." Varian smugly replied.
Heathcliff interrupted this friendly spat with his usual soft spoken British accent, "Master Varian, how about we learn how to pass other cars safely on the road next; and see how fast this bad boy can really go."
"Heck yeah!" Varian laughed. He moved the gear out of 'park', yelled "See ya!", and slammed on the gas. The car took off like a shot; burning rubber as it went.
"Oh what fresh horror have you unleashed?" Wasabi asked Fred as everyone stared dumbstruck after the boisterous teen and renegade butler.

When the blue exploded, you weren’t ready for your world to change with a rushing suddenness. You were blindsided with the odd experience of a first time that felt like memory.
First off, you didn’t know how you knew blue would be it, but you did.
When someone told you that’s what color that sweater you liked to wear all the time was, you just knew. When someone told you that’s what color some of your favorite fruits were, you just knew. When someone told you that’s what color the sky was, you just knew.
When someone told you that’s what color the ocean was—because it reflected the sky—you cried because you just knew.
There was something revelatory of such a relationship—the rhapsodic truth that two forces of nature could be reflections of the other, even with completely opposing standpoints.
In your greyscale vacuum, you were none the wiser to a life that could promise that yet. From a young age, you hoped and prayed for that day to come, until it became a hapless strain of static that took a backseat to growing up.
In general, you hadn’t known what to expect; you imagined that cats were probably the color of sprinkles on ice cream, trees were balloons floating in the air, and pavements were the color of spring. When you looked up to the night, you thought that stars might be like lighting a candle. You thought that might mean yellow.
And even when it was so dark, you hoped the sky would still be blue.
It tore through every crevice of your vision, crowding your sight and singeing your senses.
Blue wasn’t supposed to come to you in a maelstrom on a previously peaceful Sunday morning. It wasn’t supposed to burn through the pages of one of your favorite books, or weld your utensils together.
It was supposed to bump into you on a tramline station, at a park, in a crowd, and then apologise quickly; it was supposed to be in widening eyes and stuttering breaths that gave you a name you’d knew like an old friend you had yet to meet.
It wasn’t supposed to be in so much pain.
It wasn’t supposed to cause any of it, either.
You’re on your back, starry eyed and afraid all at once, suffering the memory of your first time seeing color. It’s burning you, you realize, and the tears evaporate before they touch skin.
Blue fire is attention grabbing—it’s blue, you know it is—and watching it move like you imagined blue waves would was mesmerizing. It soaked the ground with scorch marks, scarring bedlam and terror into the earth.
Your eyes blown wide catch every moment, frozen in blue.
Though, as more of the hue crops up in all different directions, your eyes are suddenly the only part of you that can’t sit still. If the fire does anything else better than burn, it’s cast light—as it throws your vision farther than usual.
You don’t miss a single detail.
The sea of people around you scatter in fear— there’s chaos but you just can’t move—and you’re anchored to the ground like roots of a tree that didn’t get to choose its growing place. You’re trapped somewhere off centre in a spiraling vortex of entropy simultaneously inhaling and granting your newfound freedom.
Across the street in spots on a mailbox, the smallest pieces detailed the metal in cool colored rivets; in the scorching bed along the stone wall cafe lay crisped, blue calla lilies; the delicate hue accented in little flora shaded your spilled and shattered tea glass.
With the proximity of unimaginable heat, noise, and overall calamity shuffling so quickly around you, you felt encased in time. An hourglass tipped in your throat and the scalding sands ran through your veins. The inferno raged on until you noticed your place in it. It spun in a tempest around you and everything melted away.
Your vision shifts and you find the catalyst to be a tall, dark, and lanky shadow of a man. He contrasted the unyielding light—that he was producing, you agnised—to an almost sardonic degree. He held his hands in his pockets and shoulders in a slouch that said all of this was of no consequence, concern, or effort to him. He looked bored.
That is, until he saw you, too.
Freezing blue eyes glistened back at you in a cacophony of emotions.
There’s comprehension, apprehension, indignation—you try to settle on one, though absolutely fruitless with a whirlpool of your own at your feet.
You tried to speak your disbelief, a sense of joy, a simple admission to life, but your voice died on your tongue. The fumes coiled at your throat, still you held your ground. It was all you could do in your dormancy, and it was all you were going to do on the precipice of eruption.
It was like watching someone conduct a hurricane, what he did next.
His hands hummed an unknown melody to the flames, and you watched and waited and listened to the music that poured out if him—quickly becoming a little more afraid at the prospect of becoming an unwittingly unwilling participant from the audience.
However, the coiling and dissipation of the blue told you that this was the grand finale, and in a voiceless and motionless dance, he swayed out of sight under the haze of blue hellfire—so searing it was cold to the touch.

When the heroes arrived, the police whisked you away to take your statement and check for injuries. It was like talking—and mostly listening—through a thick pane of glass, though. You said very little, and perceived even less.
What were you going to do? Include in your witness report that the perpetrator was your soulmate? That fact alone changed everything, and you knew that if you were to speak up about it now, the authorities would take you in. You weren’t about to be used as an asset when you had barely any time to process the truth yourself.
Everything was running smoothly, until the heroes came around to check on the injured. An expressionless man with two-toned hair and a nasty scar over his eye stepped before you, an ‘Are you alright?’ soft on his lips, contrasting the sternness in his features.
You took one look at the color of his left eye and fainted against the ambulance doors.
•.•.•.
Waking in a sweating bundle on your bedcovers was not a good way to end the day. It skewed your sense of reality, and you had to wrestle away the idea that the whole thing might have been a dream. The headache didn’t help, but it was proof you know what you saw. And what you were currently seeing.
A lot of everything else was still in greyscale, but your eyes weren’t lying to you as you took in your room. Blue comic books, pens, decals, posters, pictures; the laundry overflowed your basket, spilling in a pile of blue onto your carpet.
Blue eyes in the corner of your room.
“What did you see?” you whispered. He’s there like the shade of gossamer window curtains, a figureless concept of existence, and yet you speak knowing he’s suddenly the most solid thing there.
“You.”
You inhaled sharply, barely a pinprick to the weight in the room.
“You know that’s not what I mean. I’m not a color.”
“You were the brightest thing there. Might as well have been.”
“Impossible,” you laughed, waving your hand absently to dismiss your incredulity. “You set everything on fire.”
“Makes no difference,” he affirmed in a tone that sounded rich, drawled, and deep like molasses and a smoky room. There was silence as his voice drizzled along your skin, a safe distance in the uncertainty. It doesn’t break, even when you speak the opposite of what you should be uncertain about.
“You shouldn’t be here.”
“Yet here I am.”
There’s a flutter by your open window, and you unfold yourself from your stagnant place on your bed. Without argument, you wisp to its side, facing the world like it was unchanged.
His presence is permeable next to you, yet you were sure you had never felt anything as real.
Everything and nothing was the same.
“What do you see?”
“Still you.”
You glance to the side and see an almost facetious simper gliding across his features, even though you knew he was probably being anything but flippant.
“Dabi.”
He shifted almost imperceptibly, coiling with the dark to a time and space closer. He smelled like amber pine and sawdust, collecting evening dew.
“So you do know who I am.”
You picked at the peeling paint along the sill. It was still white.
“I follow the news. I’ve seen your face stuck to faded alley posters.”
“Now what would you be doing in alleyways?” He chuckled lowly through thinly veiled, amused bewilderment.
So he didn’t know who you were.
Just as well, it wasn’t like you lived a life of any consequence.
Truth was, you were simply a curious person with an awkward and clumsy sense of direction—finding yourself on adventures you could easily get yourself out of, only with a little time, effort, and backtracking. Even though you’d much rather see it through to the end, no matter how dark, twisted, or ugly.
The truth wasn’t meant to be pretty.
But he didn’t need to know that.
And if this were to keep up anyway, he’d find out soon enough.
You peered at him through your eyelashes and his shape almost disappeared. Instead, you leaned forward into the open world, trying to catch life as it moved below you. Your eyes spotted grass and trees, and you gasped before you could stop yourself.
“They’re green.”
“So I’ve been told.”
You turned your head to face him, chewing the inside of your cheek.
“I’ve never seen green before.”
He’s quiet as he stares at you. He had leaned against the wall beside you, hip and head propped like he wouldn’t rather be looking anywhere else. You stare back softly, still not used to the visceral experience in eye contact.
“What do you see?” he asks like holding glass. You’re tempted to keep it to yourself for at least a day longer—safeguard the truth like you were the only one in the world who could see colors. An innocent secret you’d never have to share with anybody.
And yet here was a thread presented to you by the universe, asking to be pulled from the tangle.
You looked at his frayed edges and twisted knots, feeling your own pull tighten like a lifeline.
“Blue,” you breathe. He’s beside you now, angled to the open window, eyes still burning answers and questions—so many questions—across your very surface.
You both stretch out, casting your eyes up to the night sky, in your own world like he wasn’t who he was and you weren’t who you were. Collected in a jar of your own making, you spill your breath across the open air, and he’s there with you like a pooling splash of ink you don’t want out. Oh, the memories you could write with him.
“So these are the stars, huh?” his tone hasn’t lifted from that tedium, but he talks like he’s standing among them.
Tears prickled the corner of your eyes. You couldn’t tell whether from happiness or nostalgia or disappointment or confusion or another nameless thing—you only knew that you were looking at the stars. You were looking at the night sky and suddenly seeing the stars, and—
“Some of them are blue.”
Dabi traces the bottom hemline of your sweater with his thumb, breathing clearer air than he had in a long, long time.
“There’s yellow up there, too.”
The tears spill down your cheeks, but his hand is there to catch them with cracked fingertips.
“You know,” you begin with a small sniffle, “I don’t remember the night being this… luminous.” His face splits in to a grin.
“That’s your fault.”
You roll your eyes, peeling back to lightly shove against his arm. You had barely touched him, but his heart beats as though he’d been caught in an earthquake. He’s unsteady, and grows more and more terrified by the second of the anchor in your eyes. He’s not strong enough to try and move it.
You watched him pull back, startled by the alertness in his movements. He sweeps his legs up and over the side, perched on the windowsill as though he made to jump through it.
“You’re leaving?”
“I thought you were the one who said I shouldn’t be here,” he grinned, though not without that bitter glint in his already harshly blue eyes. Your lip finds its place pulled between your teeth.
“I think there are still some things I want to see.” You glance to the side, searching for words in the spots of color blooming along the edges of your world. “With you.”
Dabi bridges small gaps between you two—some rickety and many burnt, but still there—leaving space for you to jump ship. His fingers brush warm trails across the skin of your face again, like forfeiting a whittling candelabrum to the shaking hands of a blind man.
You suppose someone like him defies all laws, even the ones of the natural world as he ghosts down the siding of the building, just another wandering shade looking for its way back.
In a day of unforseens, you try and convince yourself that it was the stars that got to you. It’s easier to place blame on things you can’t control, and part of you feels liberated knowing this was just not one of those things you were meant to expect. You let your hopes and predictions solidify the labyrinthian ground you walk on.
But as you lean through the window, you call out to him and realize you’re swallowing your assumptions like antifreeze.
“Wait!”
His head turns to the side to catch you pouring out of your mundane and into his living underworld.
“You have to come back.” The yellow on your sweater burns into your irises, and he has never been more wary of his place in the universe. Especially when it glows back at him through the eyes of a future he didn’t know he even had.
“I want to know what sunrises look like.”
The tempest in him glares up at the beacon your window—no—you provide and he feels a weird, opposing sense of mitigation and incertitude. A ubiquitous tangibility his first instinct declares a malignant impediment.
Still, he can’t help but feel as though a tide were in the process of crashing his lifeboat—a stray piece of driftwood—on to obscure shores.
That can’t be all that much of a bad thing, he considers.
With a small, barely there and imperceptibly honest smile, he places a two fingered tap to the crown of his forehead—throwing an ignition to the wind in a quiet promise.
The light fades, and you clutch the matchstick, watching the blue disappear with him into the dark of night.

4 Days
My Candy Love - Love Life
Eric - Candy/Sucrette - Nathaniel
Words 2373
Spoilers Ep 12 - 13
So I was thinking about the days between the kiss with Eric and our date four days later, but from his perspective.
I don't speak english very well, so this is like 90% google translate
DAY 0
I ran away like a coward after what I had done, what was I thinking? How did I let it happen? But they weren't my imaginations, she reciprocated, right? The more I tried to remember the details of that slip, my mind could only think of one thing, her and the softness of her lips, steal her breath, her glassy eyes and flushed cheeks despite my misdeed, I couldn't help but smile because the reality was more delicious than anything I had imagined.
The loneliness of my apartment took me out of my reverie, now I had to deal with the consequences of my actions, the only question was when? surely as soon as she got home she would tell him how I took advantage of the situation, maybe Nathaniel was on his way here right now to beat me up, which I deserve anyway ...
I still felt the light touch of her perfume on me and it was driving me crazy, I went to take a cold shower with the horrible sensation of hearing a knock on the door, a product of my tormented imagination. I could not think and I had no one to talk to, I was going around the place like a caged lion, I looked at the clock again helpless when I saw that even time was making fun of me, I changed with the idea that there was only one thing that could distract me now, go for a run. I was going fast, lost in my thoughts with the uncomfortable feeling that I was being followed, stopped at a traffic light I was left blank when I saw a blond guy in a white jacket on the other side of the sidewalk, I knew it was not him and even so I could not take my eyes off him until I was 100% sure, I trotted past him receiving the smoke from his cigar fully on my face, By the time I got to the other side of the street, I needed a cigarette more than I needed oxygen. 7 years in the trash, I thought as I ripped off the plastic and opened the box, that first puff was the only thing that managed to calm me down a bit and before I knew it I was on the second.
I walked home calmer or the fact that my head was spinning absorbed some of my attention but when I closed the door the adrenaline and excitement had passed, now I was on the floor, I saw the time and resigned that tonight I could not sleep I dropped into the chair in front of the table that was overflowing with reports, I opened the laptop and gave myself to the escape who had rescued me from Melissa for the last year and there I could see an e-mail from Ben that I should have checked that afternoon if I wouldn't have been in such a rush to get to a certain cafe at 8pm.
DAY 1
By the time the sun rose I could no longer bear the thought of not knowing what to expect, so I called Nathaniel against my logic and common sense, put the phone on speakerphone, and put it on the table as I clung to the wood tightly. Each ringtone fed my paranoia. I expected the worst, screams, insults, threats, at the very least, and then he answered, I stammered incoherencies until I realized that he didn't know, she hadn't told him… yet. I told him about the information Ben had sent me feeling slightly relieved, I hung up the phone calmer but not better, this secret was a time bomb and I felt like garbage.
I froze as I tightened the doorknob, because by inertia my feet would take me straight to the Cozy Bear, like every morning before work and every afternoon at closing time, but I couldn't go back there like nothing else, I was a criminal returning to the scene of the crime simply couldn't break into her space after what had happened, not without her authorization. I walked towards the station in the company of a cigarette and for some reason I could not remember when was the last time I had done this, I was tense, distracted, I could not concentrate even on the simplest idea my mind was restless and I simply could not ignore the why, I would have to look at his face and act like every day, I had to be convincing and it felt horrible. I hesitated before entering and after crossing the entrance I stopped for a few seconds to look inside, searching quickly, I took a deep breath out of inertia thinking I still had a few minutes left.
- I am glad I am not the only one who is affected by the investigation . -
A friendly slap on my shoulder caused me an exaggerated start but Nathaniel passed by directly to the Chief's office, I saw how he stopped at the threshold, looked at me and gestured for me to enter. I explained the progress in the investigation with few details until our superior resumed the meeting, luckily without a field operation on the agenda I could keep my distance without raising suspicions. The day was eternal and tortuous but it was already after 10 o'clock at night when I went to vent to the gym, 3 hours later I was at home, another night awake.
DAY 2
- It is the second day you arrive smelling of cigarettes instead of coffee. I believed that with age your habits would improve, not worsen. Is the wisdom of old age a myth? -
Nathaniel joked as the sound of his fists on the punching bag filled the air, I set the dumbbell I was lifting on the ground before giving him a look.
- Yes, yes, I want to see in what condition you will be when you are my age, young man. -
- But seriously, two days without coffee? That's a record, the Cozy Bear will go broke without you. -
- Yes, well I'm changing the coffee for the gym. With the whole move in I realized that I am not in such good shape. -
- Have you already adapted to your new apartment? -
- I finally have a bedside lamp so even though I don't have a TV, or real china, I was able to finish the last book you recommended. -
- Great. Did you start something new? -
- Yes, in fact I'm already halfway there... it's something different, more suspense with some science fiction. -
- Boring… -
- Whatever you say... to tell the truth... I had discussed it with... Candy. -
- Oh yeah? -
- Yes, now that I think about it... she asked me for the reference, I saved an article from the internet with several titles of the same style. -
- Would you send it to her? will you do me a favor. -
- Sure, mmmh I don't have her number. -
- My phone is in my jacket, the pass is 4444. -
- Don't you know her number by heart? -
- Mmmm no. -
Upon unlocking the screen, the background photo was like a kick in the stomach, it was her with a beaming smile, which I did not remember ever seeing, I imagine that smile is only for him. I looked for the contact, "Honey" of course ... I sent it and put the phone quickly as if it burned in my hands.
I avoided the excused lunch with an imaginary date with a divorce lawyer, I drove through the city with no clear destination, away from those streets where by any chance of life I could come across her, I parked at a gas station when it became apparent that no matter how long I was behind the wheel I would not find the right words and finally I called her, dial tone and after a few minutes, mailbox. Come on again, she must be tending the cafe after all. Second try, back to the mailbox, this is more difficult than I thought. What if she doesn't want to answer me? No, how could she know it's me, maybe she has my number. But what nonsense are you saying? Of course she doesn't have your number, let's go once again the third time's the charm. And I was defeated, after the third attempt I did not have the courage to call again and the uncertainty began to fill my head, I drove back to the station with a thousand ideas going through my head and in all of them I am the villain.
I was collapsed on the desk in my office after the afternoon meeting when the phone rang, seeing her name on the screen made my heart race, I closed the blind on the door window and I hesitated for a moment before locking with key.
- Hello, Candy? Thanks for calling me back. I think we should talk ... -
- Eric? I don’t remember giving you my number. -
Yes ... I simply continue to deceive Nath to calm this uncertainty that is killing me, I continued to accumulate crimes and although I believed that I was prepared to face the consequences, I was surprised at myself, at what I was willing to do to find out.
- Ahem... I asked Nath for it. I told him I wanted to share the name of the book we had talked about with you but… we both know that’s not the reason. I wanted for us to talk... about what happened between us, the other night. -
- And ... You couldn't have just stopped by? On the phone, it's a bit ... -
- I agree! But I wasn't sure that you wanted to see me. Well, anyway… -
- Okay, well, you know where to find me, right? I don't close before 8, if you haven’t forgotten… -
- Well ... I'm busy today... And tomorrow. I thought…… Maybe we can get a drink together in two days? I promise, it won't take long. -
- Uh… Okey, see you after tomorrow, then! -
When she hung up I felt that the world was turning again, that everything had stopped just with her voice, in the middle of all this a part of me was glad to hear her again. Little by little the plea that had almost stuttered became clearer, she could still hate me, disown me and want me as far as possible from her life. Maybe that was what I deserved, maybe that was for the best.
That night I slept fitfully waking up with a start until dawn, a single nightmare repeated itself in a loop, she laughing in my face for having been so stupid as to believe that there was something between us, that I was mistaken her sympathy for interest and I don't know how I could even dream of her leaving him for… for someone like me.
DAY 3
Jogging accompanied by the morning dew helped me wake up after not resting, somehow a choppy night's sleep was more harmful than a sleepless night, this lack was beginning to take its toll and it was already more than evident in my face that I was not having a good day. Today I would have a little field operation, nothing more to watch in case I saw anything suspicious, although I definitely couldn't see anything if I could barely keep my eyes open.
I hadn't been able to escape lunch today and Nath had already been staring at me for a couple of minutes.
- Everything is fine? -
Hearing that question aloud I hesitated, as if I was no longer physically capable of following this lie, I thought of confessing everything to him, not just the kiss, but this forbidden feeling that I had allowed myself to cultivate, how traitorous and scoundrel I was, but then I thought about her, and how I couldn't take away from her what belonged to her by right, if someone had to be the great antagonist it was me, the only one who would have to pay for deception and lies.
- Yes ... Although I think my attempt to give up coffee for something healthier is ironically killing me, I think I'll go back to my old habits. -
- Take care Eric, I still need you around for a while, someone has to stick up for this department. -
Who would say that words could cause physical pain felt like his words were digging into my back and blocking my throat. I could only smile. Sitting alone in an incognito vehicle my mind was blank, no, not blank really an idea had been fixed in my head as a clue that appears after rereading for the tenth time ... I could not, I simply could not do that to Nath, this had all been a huge mistake, a confusing and totally out of place situation, and it had to end as soon as possible.
That night I couldn't sleep either, I spent the hours thinking about her, saying goodbye in some way to the moments that I had collected in my memory, I had kept this absurd fantasy for too long and I couldn't continue lying to myself.
DAY 4
This morning I was calm, despite being the day of our meeting, but perhaps it was not tranquility but resignation, today the suspense ended, this story that should never have existed ended.
The hours passed quickly because I had already made a decision, if I wanted to end this forever there should be no doubt, I had to tell her absolutely everything, so when she rejects me and denies each and every one of my hopes, I could turn off that light that still wants to see her, that not even the fact that she is with someone else has been able to extinguish, it must be her and it must be brutal.
I was surprised at how quickly the orange glow of the evening began to creep in through my office window, it seemed that after all I did not really want to go to my “date”. My discouragement was turning into nervousness with each step I took, by the time I realized I was outside the cafe.
And then I saw you through the window and I smiled without being able to contain myself because only when I saw you did I realize that I missed you and that I had not liked spending so many days without seeing you and that everything even seemed a little brighter...
Oh… Shit, I'm really screwed...

In This Hell Daryl Dixon x Reader part 8/??
Hey guys! I’m so excited to post part 8! I’m sorry about such a large gap in between parts, I'm currently trying to figure out a schedule for posting parts. I hope you're all safe and well. Thank you for being patient and so lovely!
Warnings- Slow burn, Light smut?, General Walking Dead stuff, Blood, Gore, Swearing, Shane being sus.
The drive home seemed shorter than the drive there, passing the familiar mailboxes and other run down buildings.
The minute we arrived back, Shane left to speak with Rick, furthering their search for Sophia.
I started grabbing the Medical supplies that we had found scattered throughout the houses and took them into the farm house.
I knocked on the wooden doorframe, waiting for someone to answer, Patricia’s head popping around the corner.
“Good morning (Y/n).” “Morning, I just thought that since we’re all low on supplies that I would bring you some stuff. Shane and I went out this morning and came across all of this medical stuff, even found a full first aid kit.” I chuckled as she opened the door, stepping aside for me.
“Oh thank you, just sit it all on the dining table.” She smiled, grabbing one of the bags from me, leading the way through the house into the dining room.
“Did you guys find much?” “We found some things, a bunch of medical stuff as you can see, some food, which is in that green bad, and some gardening stuff that ill take out to the barn now.” I smiled.
“No!” She paused, my head turning to look at her. She cleared her throat before continuing.
“Don’t take them to the barn.”
I opened my mouth to speak, but not before she cut me off again.
“It’s too far from the house, not to mention the barn needs some repairs. I’d feel absolutely horrible if I let you go up there and get hurt. We have a little garden shed out back I can put them in.” She stated, walking with me to the car, grabbing the equipment out, briefly making eye contact and sharing a soft smile.
“Are you sure? I honestly don’t mind.”
“I’m sure, now it’s best if you go sit down for a bit.”
“Pat-“
“Go on, get away.” She swatted softly.
I shook my head as I backed away.
“It’s hardly fair that you guys do everything around here.” I try to argue.
“If you doing nothing around here protects gods little miracle, I do not mind. Now, go sit down and relax for a couple of hours.” She gave me a warning glare that had reminded me of my 5th grade teacher Ms. Gabel.
“Yes Ma’am.” I nodded, turning away from her and made my way towards the RV.
As the majority of the group were discussing the upcoming gun practice at the rear of the RV, I noticed Carl and Shane talking.
Shane looked Carl up and down, as if questioning him, and nodded his head.
I noticed the small movement and my breath stopped.
He had slightly raised his shirt, Shane’s eyes doubling in size.
And that’s when it hit me.
This is a new world we live in.
A world in which to survive we have to fight.
Fight for yourself, your friends, your family, your people.
Shane barely even blinked.
I picked up speed, my legs carrying me as fast as they could to the RV.
“Give me that now.” Shane firmly stated.
Once the gun was handed to Shane, he stormed off to the others, no doubt taking it to Rick.
Carl stood, staring at the ground.
“Hey, Carl..” I spoke softly, placing my hand on his shoulder.
“Let’s sit down, you can talk to me.”
He nodded his head as he walked with me to where the camping chairs were set out.
I took the seat next to him, slightly turning to face him. “What was that about?” “What?” “Carl.. why did you have a gun.” “I just wanted to help..” “I understand, but guns are dangerous.. You shouldn’t have had it.” “I know.” “You do know that your parents are going to flip?.”
He nodded his head and resumed staring at the dirt beneath his feet.
I looked up to see Shane, Dale and Rick staring at Carl, making their way to the boy.
“(Y/n), can you get Lori for me? We need to speak to Carl.” Rick asked, nodding in my direction.
“Yeah.. of course.” I nodded, turning and starting the search for Lori.
The first place I had checked, the fire pit where she and Glenn were earlier showed no results.
I made my way to where the chicken coop was, to be met with the clucking of the hens, but again no Lori.
I checked her tent, to see her sitting on the mattress, head in her hands.
“Hey.” I spoke, moving the door to the side.
“Oh, Hey Honey.” She smiled. “Are you okay?” “Yeah, Im fine, just a little tired. Whats up?”
“It’s Carl.”
She stood quickly, worry present in her eyes.
“What? What’s wrong? Where is my boy?”
“He is okay, he isn’t hurt.. Rick asked me to come get you..” “What? Rick asked you to get me? Whats going on?” “Carl had a gun.”
Her eyes widened, her left hand going to her mouth.
“Oh God… im going to be sick.” She shook her head
She paused briefly.
“Where are they?”
“”They’re at the RV.”
“Let’s go.” She stated, grabbing my wrist and dragging me behind her.
She cleared the distance between the tents and the RV in no time.
Letting my wrist go when she got within earshot of everyone, walking straight over to Carl, taking the gun from Shane and showing it to Carl.
“Where did you get this?” She asked sternly as she kneeled in front of the boy.
She waited for an answer.
“Carl Grimes. You answer me.”
She stood up, turning to us.
“How the hell did this happen?” She asked, tucking the gun into the back of her jeans.
“Well, It's my fault.” Dale began, slightly pausing as Lori’s attention snapped to the older man.
“I let him into the RV. He said he wanted a walkie, that you sent him for one.” Dale continued.
“So on top of everything else, he lied.” She began.
“What was he thinking?”
“He wants to learn how to shoot. He asked me to teach him.” Shane started, earning an ice filled glare from Lori.
“Now It's none of my business, but I'm happy to do it. It's your call.” He nodded, sensing the tension.
“I'm not comfortable with it.” Lori looked towards Rick, who tried to avert his gaze.
“Oh, don't make me out to be the unreasonable one here. Rick?”
“I know. I have my concerns too, but-“
“There's no but. He was just shot. He's just back on his feet and he wants a gun?”
“Better than him being afraid of 'em. There are guns in camp for a reason. He should learn to handle them safely.” Rick responded to his wife’s worries.
“I don't want my kid walking around with a gun.” She shook her head.
“But how can you defend that? You can't let him go around without protection.”
“He is as safe as he'll ever be right now.” She started.
“Look, everything you're saying makes perfect sense. It feels wrong. I mean I didn't feel good about him following you out into the woods. And I wish I'd said something. I should've gone with my gut.” She argued.
“He's growing up, thank god. We've got to start treating him more like an adult.” Rick tried to reason.
“Then he needs to act like one. He's not mature enough to handle a gun.”
“I'm not gonna play with it, mom. It's not a toy. I'm sorry I disappointed you, but I want to look for Sophia and I want to defend our camp. I can't do that without a gun.” Carl stood and walked toward us.
“Shane's the best instructor I know. I've seen him teach kids younger than Carl.”
“He will be with Shane. He loves that boy and wouldn’t let him get hurt.”
Lori looked at me and I could tell that even though the thought of Carl having this gun terrifies her, but him not having one in this world terrifies her even more.
She waited a few moments and walked to Carl, resting her hand under his chin, making him look up at her.
“You will take this seriously and you will behave responsibly. And if I hear from anyone in this camp that you're not living up to our expectations-“
“He won't let you down.” Rick stated clearly behind her.
Carl nodded at Rick and answered with a “yeah.”
The sound of the old blue truck pulled up next to us, Beth, Patricia and Jimmy all inside.
“Now if you're gonna do this, you listen to Shane.”
“Okay, dad.”
“All right? You two be careful.” Rick pointed at Shane and Carl.
“You coming?” Shane asked Glenn.
Glenn shook his head.
“I gotta help Dale clean the spark plugs on the RV. He said he's gonna teach me mechanics. I should probably go look for him.”
“You found me.” Dale called out from two metres behind him, startling Glenn.
Shane nodded and got in the car, starting it.
“He's a good learner.” Dale called out.
I moved towards the car, getting in with Shane, watching as Lori, Rick, Carol, Carl and Andrea piled into the Cherokee.
T-dog jumping in wi†h Shane and I, as we made our way to a neighbouring farm’s paddock, distancing the gunshots from the Greene farm.
The sound of breaking glass, and the metallic ricochet of bullets hitting the tins and bottles that were sitting in a perfect row on the boundary fence line.
The loud echoes of the gunshots leaving my ears ringing, the slight scent of gunpowder present in the air.
Rick and Shane pacing behind us all, ensuring that we were all practicing gun safety.
T-dog, partnered with Jimmy, who needs as much help as he can get.
Jimmy was holding his gun as if he had just come from a bad adaption of a 90’s gangsta movie.
“Hey, come on, man. Don't give me that gangsta shit.” T-dog stated.
Jimmy, stood up, straightening his posture, moving his free hand to help support the gun, shooting and finally hitting his target.
His face lighting up as if he had just won an award, a participation award, but an award none the less.
Shane gave him a pat on the back as he passed him.
“Did you see that? I hit it!” He exclaimed turning to T.
I watched as my brother zoned in on Andrea, stopping next to her and looking to where she was shooting, through his binoculars.
Helping her change her posture before letting her shoot again, which she hit the target perfectly.
Shane and Rick shared a laugh, and some small talk before continuing the pacing.
Lori was planted a metre behind Carl, watching him shoot, hitting the tin off the fence.
“Got it.” Carl smiled widely.
“That's a great shot!” Rick smiled back at him.
I look over to where Beth was aiming at her target, slightly missing it.
“Hey.” “Oh hey.” “Would you like some help?” “Um, I think im not doing it right.” “Oh, no, it’s fine, here.”
I moved to where she was and helped position her arms.
“Dont be scared, of the gun. You’re in control.” I paused.
“Just breathe, take your time. There’s nothing to be nervous about.”
She visibly relaxed and pulled the trigger, the glass bottle exploding.
I looked over to see her eyes closed.
“Beth. You did it. You hit the bottle.” “What? I did?” She asked opening her eyes and looking to where the bottle once sat.
“I hit it! I actually hit it!” She beamed.
“Thank you!” She jumped on me, hugging me tightly.
“You’re welcome.” I laughed.
“What about you (Y/n)? You a good shot?” Rick asked.
“I was once.” I nodded.
“She had the best teacher.” Shane smiled.
“Yeah. Grandma.” I jeered.
“Oh really? Mind showing us?” Lori laughed. “No-“ “She wasn’t the strongest shooter, she probably forgot.” Shane shook his head laughing.
I grabbed the gun from Shane’s holster and shot three targets in a row, the sound of shattering glass echoing beyond the gun.
“Where’d that come from?” Shane asked as I handed him the gun back. “I told you. Grandma.” I smiled as Lori held in a small chuckle.
“Yeah, Yeah. Let’s go then.” Shane shook his head.
“Sure showed him.” Lori chuckled.
“Shane needs to be put in his place. I never had a strong shooting arm when I was a kid. Shane never tried to teach me after he realised. Grandma took it upon herself to teach me. Always said that a woman should always know how to defend herself.” “Well, your grandma was a smart woman.” Rick smiled, leading his wife and son to the car.
Everyone following in pursuit, getting into the same vehicles that had transported them from the Greene farm.
I got in the car, and looked at Shane.
“Is there any other things that Grandma showed you?”
“The secret recipe of her butternut squash pie.”
“Is that all?” He laughed.
“Yeah.. yeah I think thats pretty much it.”
“That pie sounds good right about now.” T-dog chuckled.
“Maybe Hershel might let me commandeer the kitchen.”
Shane had pulled the car over.
T-dog, jumping straight out in search for Dale and Glenn.
“Get out.” “What?” “Get out. Andrea and I are going for some more target practice.” “Oh is that what we’re calling it now? Target practice?” “Shut it. Now get out.”
“Alright. But please please please make sure that you wrap it before you tap it.” “(Y/n)-“
“No glove, no love.” “Seriously-“
“Plug your funnel then enter the tunnel.” “What does that one even mean?”
“If im being honest I don’t even know. But It’s on the same line as the others.”
“Seriously get out now.”
“Alright, alright. Calm down.” I raised my hands and opened the door, sliding out and closing it, putting my head through the open window. “Shane.” “What?”
“Love is cleaner with a packaged Weiner.” I laughed.
“Goodbye.” He muttered through his teeth.
I took a step back from the car, watching as he moved to where Andrea was waiting, letting her hop in and then taking off down the dirt road towards the gate again.
I laughed to myself as I made my way towards the RV and the others.
“Whats so funny?” Carol asked smiling.
“Nothing, just thought of a joke. Do you need a hand?” I chuckled.
“Sure, sit down and I’ll show you how.” She smiled.
I knelt next to her, watching as she continued patching holes in clothes for us.
Her work perfect.
“How did you get it to look so good?” “Years of practice. Ed used to come home after going to the bar in a mess, clothes torn and bloody from fighting earlier in the night.”
She paused, taking a breath.
“He used to say that it was my job to fix the mess and clean it.”
“Carol-“ “Oh no honey, im fine.” She smiled once more.
I nodded.
Carol and I sat for an hour and a half, her teaching me different stitches and when the best use for each one.
“Alright guys, foods ready.” Dale called out.
I stood up, and walked over to Dale, who had two plates set aside, handing them to me.
“I figured that you’d be hungry, Daryl would be too.” “Thank you Dale.” “Go on, go eat. Make sure He eats too or we will all be insufferable.”
I nodded my head and chuckled, turning around and heading towards the farm house.
“Hey (Y/n).” Maggie smiled as she walked down the front steps.
“Hey.” “Glenn and I are going for a supply run, im going to keep an eye out for any pre-natal vitamins for you. Is there anything you’re after?” “Oh thank you, not that I can think of.” “Okay, well, Daryls upstairs, I think he might be asleep, but head on up.” She smiled.
“Thank you.” I smiled as she continued past me.
I made my way up and into the Greene family home, and up those familiar steps that lead me to Daryls room.
I softly pushed the door open and walked in, smiling as I see Daryl sit himself up.
“Where have ya’ been all day?” He asked
“I, have been everywhere today it seems, Shane and I went on a supply run this morning.”
“Ya’ did what?”
“Daryl-“ “I don’t want ya’ out there. Why would he take ya’ out?” “He didn’t take me, I took him. Technically. But it was smooth, no near death experiences to report.” I smiled softly.
“Dale cooked whatever, this is for us. It smells good though.” I chuckled handing him a plate.
He took the plate and picked up the food, biting away at it.
“Quit ya’ starin’.” He spoke through a mouthful.
“Or what?” I challenged, taking a bite from the food.
He shook his head as a light pink blush rose on his cheeks.
“Are you blushing?” I grinned, watching as he finished eating.
He grabbed his plate and moved it to the side, grabbing mine from my hand and placing it on his own.
“Hey! I wasn’t finished- “
“C’mere.” He muttered, reaching over, pulling me onto his lap.
“Daryl.. what are you trying to do?” “I’m tryin’ to finish what ya’ started.” “Oh, what I started?” I grinned, my hands resting on his shoulders.
“Mhmm” he nodded.
“If I remember correctly, it was you, that initiated this.” “Was it?” He smirked.
I nodded my head.
“Guess im gonna finish it too.” He stated, bringing his hand to the back of my neck, pulling me in for a kiss.
I smiled into the kiss, both of my hands made their way to the sides of his face, cupping his stubbled cheeks.
His hands moving down to my thighs, picking me up and laying me back.
I pulled away from his lips and smiled up at him.
“What?” He muttered.
“Nothing.” I shook my head softly, bringing his face back down to mine.
Daryl’s hands roamed freely over my body, sending shivers coursing down my spine.
I shivered against Daryl, earning a low chuckle from him.
Once Daryl had fallen asleep, I got dressed and took the plates downstairs for cleaning.
I left the farm house, making my way to our little camp.
Washing up the two plates in the tub we had set aside I left the two to air dry.
“I was wondering where you’d run off to.” Lori spoke up as she exited her tent.
“I just gave Daryl his lunch.” I smiled, getting off the ground.
“Thats not all you gave him.” I could hear the smirk in her voice without even turning to look at her.
I smiled and turned to face her.
“I don’t know what it is you’re implying Lori.”
“Sure you don’t.” She grinned.
“How else would your shirt be inside out.”
I looked down and laughed, quickly stripping my shirt off and flipping it the right way in.
“Lucky it was only me.” She laughed, patting my back.
“Ill give you a hand.” I smiled motioning to the laundry that needed folding.
We laughed and joked for about 15 minutes as we folded, the clothes.
The creak of the side paddock gate gained the attention of both Lori and I.
We looked up to see Maggie storming through, Glenn hot on her heels.
“Hey! We got your stuff.” Maggie called out.
“Maggie, hang on, please.” Glenn called after her.
Lori looked around, seeing who else was out.
Then she looked at me.
“Come on in here.” Lori tried softly, gesturing to her tent.
“Why? Nothing to hide. We got your special delivery right here.” Maggie started.
“We got your lotion, got your conditioner, your soap opera digest.” She named each item before throwing it to the floor.
“Maggie..” Lori tried.
“Hey, Maggie, calm down. What-“ I tried to reason.
“Next time you want something, get it your damn self. We're not your errand boys.”
“Honey, I-“
“And here's your abortion pills.” She threw a small blue box at Lori, storming off, Glenn and Lori sharing a look before he followed Maggie.
“Lori?” I asked softly as she stood there in silence.
“Honey, I can explain.” “You don’t need to explain anything to me.” I stated bringing her in for a hug.
“I just wish you’d have told me.. we could’ve talked about it.” I rubbed her back.
“I just don’t know what to do. I haven’t told Rick yet. I’m not going to until I know what I’m going to do.” She paused.
“Does that make me a bad wife?” She asked.
“No. It makes you a cautious one, and thats not a bad thing considering what’s happened in the last few months.”
“You have no idea how good it feels now that you know.” She softly laughed.
“I’d say it’d be a whole lot less stressful.” I laughed with her as we sat on the small stools near the table in the tent.
The little blue box holding the attention of both Lori and myself.
“Whatever you decide to, I’m here to support you.” I whispered placing my hand on her own.
She grabbed my hand and looked over to me, a thankful smile on her face.
A slight movement from the corner of my eye caught my attention, to see Glenn appear at the tents doorway.
“I’ll leave you guys to it.. just come get me if you need anything.”
“Thank you honey.” She hugged me.
“I’ll see you later Glenn.” I smiled, softly patting him on the back.
“Yeah, see you.” He nodded as I made my way through the tents door.
The familiar green car came into view and pulled up by the RV.
I couldn’t help but chuckle as I noticed the light flush on Andrea’s face as she climbed out of the car.
I made eye contact with Shane, him rolling his eyes as he noticed the small smirk on my face, continuing his walk to Carol and Dale.
“Anything?” Carol was the first to speak.
“Not today.” Shane shook his head.
“I’m so sorry. We'll cover more ground tomorrow.” Andrea sympathised with her at least.
Andrea was covered in more grime and dirt than what she had left in, signalling that they’d run into some sort of trouble whilst out.
“What happened out there?” Dale asked looking her up and down.
“Um, I-“ Andrea was cut off before she could even finish her sentence.
“The place was overrun.” Shane said far too quickly.
“Yeah.” Andrea agreed, sharing a look with my brother.
“Let's go get you clean up.” Carol motioned towards Andrea, pulling me along with them.
“(Y/n), you coming?” “Yeah, i’ll catch up, just got to grab Andrea a towel.” I smiled running into the small share tent, grabbing one of the towels.
I turned to leave, but overheard Dale call out to Shane.
“Shane.” “Shane, I was thinking, you've got that nice new ride of yours, plenty of fuel, more than enough for you to get far from here.” Dale began.
I furrowed my brows, not understanding where Dale is coming from.
“What, you telling me to leave?” Shane asked, annoyance clear in his voice.
“I know you've been planning to. Maybe now is a good time.” Dale responded.
Shane scoffed before laughing.
“Is this about Andrea?” He asked.
“I’m looking out for the group.”
“You think the group would be better off without me, Dale? My sister would be better off? Why don't you tell that to Rick or Lori? Their boy would be dead if I hadn't put my ass on the line.” Shane argued.
“And Otis's. You've been vague about that night, about what happened.”
“Otis died a hero.” Shane stated smugly.
“So you've said.”
“A little boy lived because of what went down that night. I think you ought to show some gratitude.” Shane sneered
“I wasn't there.” Dale responded.
“No, man, you weren’t.” Shane agreed, clearly angry.
“But I was the time that you raised your gun on Rick.” My hand instantly covered my mouth as I had heard what Dale had said.
“Come on. Jesus.”
“You had him in your sights and you held him there. I know what kind of man you are.” Dale continued.
I heard a sigh, the same one that I’ve heard my entire life, the one that Shane used to use when he was caught in something.
Shane stayed silent for a moment before speaking once more.
“You think I'd shoot Rick? That is my best friend. That's the man that I love. I love him like he's my brother. You think that's the kind of man I am?”
“That's right.” Dale answered.
“Well, maybe we ought to just think that through. Say I'm the kind of man who'd gun down his own best friend. What do you think I'd do to some guy that I don't even like when he starts throwing accusations my way? What do you think?” Shane threatened before retreating.
My stomach was in knots, knowing that my brother isn’t the man I knew.
I heard the footsteps retreat and decided to give myself a moment.
I took a deep breath, and shook my head softly.
As I took a step out of the tent, gasping when someone spoke.
“How much of that did you hear?”

Pull Me Closer
Summary: Imagine moving in across the street from Scotty Sire.
Words: 5.5K Warnings: Language. I adore Kristen with all my heart, but for the sake of this imagine were just going to pretend Scotty is single.
Moving states away felt like a breath of fresh air, especially after the passing of your last living grandparent. Things were tense, even more so after the reading of the will, and the three bedroom home in California was calling your name. The front and back yard was spacious enough for your dog, and the pool and hot tub out back were perfect for you.
Before the move you had your personal belongings and some furniture you couldn't live without shipped to your new home where the house's occasional caretaker put it in the house for you, and even ordered some stuff online from a nearby warehouse that delivered directly to the house. Thankfully the caretaker put everything in their respective rooms, and even had the pool and hot tub set up for your arrival.
So pulling up in your Jeep Wrangler with the windows rolled down, you park in the driveway and stare up at the three bedroom home that is now all yours. Reaching over into the passenger seat, you rub your hand over Rocko's back- your fully grown black and gray Great Dane.
"Welcome home, Rocko. Lets go check it out."
Rocko quietly woofs as you exit your Jeep, quickly rushing around to the passenger side to open the door for your dog. He jumps out, tail wagging as he immediately sets out to sniff the entire yard. You then make your way over to the mailbox where your house key is hidden, your attention being stolen by raucous laughter from across the street. There are a group of boys, a couple of them filming as others run around with paintball guns.
"Whoa. Check out that horse!" The exclamation makes you chuckle, you grinning when you see their attention is on Rocko who's now standing at the curb and staring at the boys with a slightly wagging tail.
You whistle and gain Rocko's immediate attention. "Lets go, boy. Inside!" As you start to make your way towards the house, Rocko leaps into action and follows after you. You push the key into the lock and the door opens easily. Sighing in content, you scratch Rocko between the ears. "Home sweet home, pup."
After scoping out the neighborhood and getting a feel for it, you finally find yourself comfortable enough to jog around in order to get some sort of cardio in. The kids around the block especially love it when you jog with Rocko in tow and you soon find yourself fitting in.
And even though you've been in your new place for about a week and a half, today's the day the neighbors across the street have finally made themselves known.
You and Rocko are walking up to your mailbox when two boys jog across the street. You feel messy and gross because you'd been running around with Rocko for quite some time, but the boys are all smiles. Rocko quietly woofs in excitement and you scratch him between his cropped ears.
"Whoa," the tanned, dark haired individual muses. Only then do you realize he's got a camera in hand. "He's intimidating up close."
"Don't worry. He's a sweetheart. Rocko's just excited because you're new." Both guys seem to ease up at that, the dark haired one stepping up to Rocko and petting him, taking video.
The silver haired, red beaded guy chuckles. "Sorry about him. He's easily excited by dogs. We, uh, we live next door and figured we'd finally come over and say hi. I'm Scott."
"And I'm Todd," Todd says distractedly, leaning down to kiss Rocko before moving back at the last second, laughing.
"Y/N. And nice to finally meet you guys. I think you're the only ones I hadn't met."
Scott sheepishly rubs the back of his neck. "Sorry about that. We're usually home, but our friend needed some content for his vlog so he flew us out to Vegas and-"
"And it's been a party non-stop," Todd says. "Good times."
You laugh softly. "Your friend vlogs?"
"We all do, but David's got more of a following than us."
"Oh. That's cool," you admit. "I, uh, I actually post videos too, but nothing crazy or as frequent as those famous Youtubers do."
"Oh yeah? What do you post?"
"I cover songs that I can vibe with." Todd immediately looks up, pointing the camera at you and Scott. "And I do unboxing videos of some of my fanmail. I love opening up sketchy mail."
"Look, guys," Todd says, "Scott's found his soulmate."
You snort and Scott faintly blushes, glancing at his friend and shaking his head. "Dude, shut up." Then he looks back at you, smile a little wider and a little nervous. "I sing too, but I mostly post videos of the stupid shit me and my friends get up to."
"Why do I get the feeling the shit you and your friends get up to is off the walls insane?"
"Because it is," Todd tells you. "David likes to shoot us with a paintball gun when we least expect it."
"What?"
"It's fine. We get paid, so it's all good."
You chuckle in disbelief. "If you say so. I'm going to have to look you guys up on Youtube now."
"Do it," Scott agrees. "Just look up David Dobrik. We're all tagged in his videos."
"I will." You rock back on the heels of your feet, whistling shortly to catch Rocko's attention. "Well it was good to finally meet you both. I should, uh, I need to shower and eat," you say while slowly backing up the sidewalk into your yard.
"Wait, what?" Todd says, looking up in a hurry. "That's it? We don't get a name in return to look you up on Youtube?"
You and Scott both laugh. "Just look up Halsey on twitter. She tweeted out my latest cover of her song Graveyard a couple weeks ago."
"Halsey tweeted you!" Todd practically shouts. "Shut the fuck up."
"I'm serious." You suddenly can't stop laughing at Todd's excitement, he pushing the camera into Scott's hands so he can take out his phone and get on Twitter. "And on that note," you say when you see the app open up, "I'm gonna go. I don't like seeing people hear me sing for the first time. It's awkward."
"If you ever need anything, we're right across the street," Scott says.
"Ditto. My door is always open," you return.
Telling Scott and Todd your door was always open was probably a mistake, but after the first week of Todd walking in without so much as a head's up, it quickly became the norm. Todd usually showed up, asked about your day, and then spent the rest of the time laying with Rocko. Scott, however, greeted Rocko and then spent the rest of his time with you talking about music.
And within that week, they learned you were a great cook, but couldn't bake to save your life, and unfortunately found out you walked around the house semi-nude. For some reason you were more embarrassed about Scott seeing you in a t-shirt and underwear than Todd, and then quickly realized it wasn't really a big deal to them. Well at least not to Todd, but he still took pleasure in teasing you and giggling like a little girl when Scott would get defensive on your behalf.
And after the boys realized your house was a no-pants zone more often than not, Todd found it okay to strip down to his briefs when he needed a nap, Scott sometimes doing the same after sheepishly smiling and cuddling up with Rocko.
- X - X - X - X - X -
You're unloading box after box in your driveway, your fan mail having arrived at your new address. Several of the boxes are rather heavy and you're unsure about how exactly you're going to get them inside, but a voice shouting from across the street makes you sigh in relief.
"Need some help?"
You turn around, shielding the sun from your eyes, and wave over Scott. "Yes, please!"
Scott jogs across the street, Todd following at a slower place with three other guys. But from binge watching numerous Youtube videos, you realize it's David, Zane, and Heath.
When Scott gets a glimpse at all the boxes up close, he grins. "Went a bit crazy shopping online, did you?"
"No." You huff a laugh. "It's mail from all my subscribers."
"Mail?" Todd asks, slinging an arm around your shoulders in greeting and pulling you into his side. "Does that mean you're going to make an unboxing video soon?"
"Yeah. Today."
"Sweet. I'm sticking around for that." You shrug, chuckling as Scott rolls his eyes. "By the way, meet our other friends. This is David, Heath, and Zane. Boys, this is Y/N."
"Oh hey! You're the singer," David muses, camera in hand. "Is this cool?" He then quickly asks, gesturing to his camera. "You're really good, by the way."
"Thank you and yes." You blush and Todd pinches your cheeks as he mockingly coos at you. He pinches a little too hard and you retaliate by shoving him off of you and punching him as his friends laugh. Scott then brings you into his side when Todd starts poking at you and you practically melt against him. "I've recently starting watching your guys' videos and can I just say that y'all are fuckin' wild?! Holy shit!"
"Ooh, girl," Heath then says. "That cover you did on Sam Smith's Stay With Me gave me the chills. My girlfriend Mariah is in love with your voice."
"I really liked Bad Liar by Imagine Dragons," Todd grins.
You laugh. "You guys really did go through my videos, huh."
"Duh." David giggles. "Scott and Todd couldn't shut up about you, so we had to look you up."
"Oh god."
"Mhm," Zane hums, cracking up a moment later when he can't take himself seriously. "Is it true our boys walked in on you in your underwear?"
"Jesus Christ. Did you guys really have to tell them that?"
Scott squeezes your shoulders. "Don't blame me. That was all Toddy."
Rolling your eyes, you let the smile continue to grace your lips to let the guys know you're not really upset about it. "To be fair, it was a Calvin Klein sports bra and boy short underwear. I also had a flannel shirt on, but it was left unbuttoned, and I never know when Todd is just going to barge in. It really wasn't that big of a deal. I was more startled than anything else."
"So let me get this straight," Zane says, glancing between you and Todd. "Todd saw you practically naked and he didn't try to hump you?"
You snort and then shake your head. "Nope."
"Baby!" Heath then coos at Todd, he and Zane sandwiching their friend in a hug. "You're growing up." You all laugh, David capturing it all on his camera.
"Well if you four are done," Scott says, "Y/N needed our help. Let's get this inside for her."
David's the only one who doesn't help, he being reluctant to put down his camera. You understand, even if his friends give him grief for it. "By the way, guys, don't mind Rocko. He's a gentle giant."
"Rocko?" Heath wonders.
David opens the door for all of you, he cursing quite loudly as Rocko lets out the deepest woof in his arsenal. You, Scott, and Todd all laugh.
"Rocko, my man." Todd enters, setting down his box before being distracted by your dog.
"I swear Todd only visits to eat my food or play with Rocko," you say.
When the guys all notice your set up in the living room and find out you do unboxing videos of your fan mail, they all ask to stick around. You don't mind the company, so you let them, even letting David continue to video for some content he can use in his own vlog.
Once everyone is settled, it's only you, Scott, and Zane in the actual shot. Heath and David sit off the sides, but close enough to be caught in frame should they want to be, and Todd sits behind the camera as he lounges with Rocko who's resting his head on the boy.
Your fan mail is nothing spectacular, the items ranging from band tees to posters to fan art of you and Rocko. And after each box is opened, you make sure to thank the person who sent it by giving them a shout-out. There are also boxes of snacks, which Heath and Zane seem really excited for, and you treat them to your favorites. There are some specialty candy that's only made in Texas that you make the boys all eat, but only Scott seems fond of the cherry flavored gummies that are covered in chili powder. The other snacks from Texas come from a store named Buc-ee's, and David, Heath, and Zane become quite fond of the Beaver Nuggets.
More mail is opened and you laugh as you open several packages just meant for Rocko- toys, treats, and even shirts made specifically for your Great Dane.
"We are seriously going to have to plan a trip to Texas just for Beaver Nuggets," David says, popping yet another caramel-coated, crunchy puff corn into his mouth.
"See. They're good, right?"
"Mhm." He eats a few more before asking, "So, Y/N, what's the weirdest thing you've ever received?"
You immediately blush and the guys all perk up. "Oh this is gonna be good," Todd muses.
"Fuck you." The guys all laugh and you sigh when you realize they're awaiting an answer. "Just.. hold on." You shoot a quick outro clip, thanking everyone for the mail and that you'd have a new song cover coming soon. Just as you're saying goodbye, the boys all squeeze in and wave at the camera. Laughing, you tell Todd to cut the camera off and then tell them what they want to hear. "So the weirdest thing I received was a box full of lingerie and sex toys."
"WHAT?!" Heath nearly shouts, Zane giggling at his side.
"And what's weird is that guy had my size down perfectly. Like if I had tried the lingerie on, it'd have fit."
Scott quirks an eyebrow at you. "If?"
"Yeah. There we no tags on the underwear and all the sex toys were out of their packaging. It was super sketchy!"
The guys all laugh at your grossed out expression. David leans forward, camera nearly in your face. "Now I think the question is, is would you have kept the sex toys had they been in their proper packaging?"
The room goes oddly silent. "Well.."
"You hesitated!" Todd screams, cackling.
You grab a pillow, chunking it at him. "A girl has her needs, you dick! But still, I don't know. Sex toys from a fan is still super weird."
"Baby," Heath coos, "lingerie from a fan is weird. Sex toys is crossing a line."
You nod in agreement and eventually get up to head to the kitchen. The boys all follow as you start bringing out food to eat, and Zane's whistle of appreciation catches your attention.
He's looking out into the back yard, David and Heath by his side. "No offense," Zane starts, "but how are you affording a place like this?"
You chuckle as you scoop some ice cream into a bowl. "It's been in the family for quite a while. I actually inherited it last month when my grandfather passed." The guys go quiet and you glance at them, smiling as they suddenly seem uneasy. "It's okay. My grandfather lived here up until his wife passed away. He moved closer to his family where he then proceeded to lose both his children. When my mom died, I was his only grandchild who continued to have anything to do with him and even moved him in with me when he got sick. I didn't even know this place existed until the reading of the will where he left me everything- this house and his money."
"Damn. I bet everyone else was pissed," Heath says.
"Yep. Hence the reason I'm here now. I got tired of listening to them belittle me, so I packed up myself and Rocko, and here we are."
"Well they sound like assholes," David tells you. "And I, for one, am glad you're here. Scotty is too."
"Dude."
Scott's sudden look of disbelief at his friend sends you into a bout of laughter, you holding your hands up when he nudges you in retaliation. Scott purses his lips to keep from laughing and you quickly wink at him before picking up your bowl of ice cream and moving on.
"Don't pretend I can't hear you," you say while hip checking Zane out of the doorway from where he was muttering something to Todd. "I saw the dry ice video. You guys are not fucking up my pool."
"No, but Y/N, just hear us out..!"
Weeks soon turned into months and you can't believe how much Scott and Todd have changed your life. Scott was a little tamer than Todd, which is probably why you were more drawn to him, but the boys were still wild. You had thought you kept the teeny tiny crush you developed on Scott under wraps pretty good, but when you were eventually introduced to the rest of their friends, Todd made sure the guys knew you were off limits less they wanted to step on Scott's toes. And because you were clearly holding out for their friend.
The girls were just stoked to have another female in the group, and you found yourself being asked on shopping trips and to attend hang out sessions more times than you ever were asked back in your hometown.
You went out with the entire group a total of two times when Scott asked you and you found they were just as crazy as they were in their videos. The first time you kept yourself limited to two drinks in order not to get out of hand, but the second time you were encouraged to let loose. Needless to say, your new friends saw you being a hot mess and you knew you'd never live it down. You had become Zane's favorite drinking buddy, right next to Heath.
But tonight is a night of peace and quiet, you staying in with Rocko and quietly celebrating your birthdays. And since you're not that fond of cake, you had found a bakery that was dedicated to making cakes for pets and ordered one for Rocko. Then once the sun has gone down, you get the cake out of the refrigerator and place four sparklers around the cake. You quickly tug a party hat on over your head and manage to get one on Rocko without him pawing it off, and then light the sparklers before grabbing a bottle of wine in your other hand. After quickly posing for a picture, you blow out the sparklers, take them out, and let Rocko devour his cake.
Once you've got yourself a glass of wine poured and have made yourself comfortable on the couch with some of your favorite movies queued up, you post the picture to your Instagram with the caption: Happy birthday to us! For the last four years, I've been honored to share my birthday with Rocko. All I need for this special day is the love of my fur baby.
Along with the picture of you and Rocko, and his cake, you post another picture with it that's of Rocko laying his head on your lap. After posting, you set your phone aside and settle in to watch movies.
- X - X - X - X - X -
You're in the middle of Jeepers Creepers when your doorbell rings, you startling and then shushing Rocko when you startled him as well. Pressing pause on your movie, you get up to go answer the door. And when you swing it open, you're met with Scott's beaming smile and two cupcakes in hand- one cupcake with a lit candle shoved in it and the other with a dog treat shoved in it.
"Scotty," you chuckle, immediately melting and leaning bashfully against your door.
"Happy birthday, Y/N." He then leans his head in through the doorway, saying, "Happy birthday, Rocko!", to which Rocko woofs in response.
"What are you doing? I thought you were filming at David's tonight?"
"My bit was over with about ten minutes after I had gotten there," he says. "Now come on. Make a wish and blow out your candle."
You can't stop smiling, but you do as you're told. You stare at the flickering flame, make a wish, and then blow it out. Scott mock cheers. "Thank you. I've got beer in the fridge and Jeepers Creepers on TV if you want to stick around."
"Sounds like a plan."
After gesturing him inside, you huff a quiet laugh as he readily kicks off his shoes. As you head for the kitchen, you hear him call out to Rocko and feed your dog his own treat. You then return with a beer for Scott and another glass of wine for yourself, and take a seat on the other side of Rocko since he had snuggled up to Scott himself.
Ten minutes into the movie, you can't help but look at Scott again. He meets your gaze and grins, light from the TV reflecting off his nose ring. "I'm really glad you came, Scotty."
"Yeah? Me too."
Nearing the end of Jeepers Creepers 2, you can't help but take a quick picture of Scott and Rocko as they sleep on the couch. You have no idea how Scott is able to take so much of Rocko's weight on his arm, but he does and he looks quite adorable.
The picture gets posted straight away with the caption: I take back my earlier statement. All I need on this special day are my two favorite boys [heart eyes emoji] #WeakInTheKnees
You're floating in the middle of your pool, Rocko lounging on his own float not too far away as music fills the back yard from a portable speaker sitting on a nearby table. Your hands lazily sweep through the water at your sides to keep your float moving, and your eyes flutter open at the sound of a cat-calling whistle.
David stands at the edge of your pool, camera in hand and pointed directly at you with Jeff and Todd at his sides. Raising your hand, you flip off David's camera and then laugh when you hear Jeff say, "Man, Nerf is never allowed here. He'd be so jealous of Rocko's life."
"One of these days, Wittek, I'm gonna kidnap your dog and hold him hostage for a couple days. He ain't ever gonna wanna go back home to you."
"Keep dreaming, Y/L/N."
Todd suddenly whoops as he strips off his shirt, jumping into the pool a moment later. David laughs and when Todd doesn't immediately resurface, dread fills your stomach. David is still giggling and before you can say anything, you're yelping as your float is upended and you're rolling into the water.
Resurfacing and spluttering on water, you splash Todd's laughing face. "You're a dick, Toddy."
"You love me."
"Fuck off."
"Well not as much as you love Scotty."
David and Jeff laugh, and you splash him again. "Will you stop saying I'm in love with him?"
"Why? It's true. You're both just too goddamn oblivious to notice it."
"Oh I notice it," you say as you continue to tread water. "We're just- we can't escape the tip-toeing stage."
"Well escape it," Jeff says. "The sexual tension is killing us."
"God I hate you guys sometimes." Swimming over to the edge of the pool, you accept Jeff's helping hand. Then sitting on the ledge and accepting the towel David passes over, you ask, "So what's up?"
"Scotty's birthday is coming up. We need ideas," Todd says. He swims over, pulling himself out of the water and sitting next to you.
"Well I would offer up my pool, but I've seen how out of hand your parties tend to get. I don't want you to break my house," you say, chuckling.
David opens his mouth to deny the statement, but then shrugs and giggles. "Yeah."
You take a moment to think about it, clicking your tongue on the roof of your mouth. "What are you guys doing for music?"
"Not sure yet. Shouldn't be too hard to find a decent DJ."
"I think I might know someone. Someone pass me my phone." Jeff looks around until he spots it, grabbing it and giving it to you. You bring up your text messages, shooting off a series of texts back to back. "I'm not sure they'll agree, but if they do-"
"Who's they?" David asks.
"Some friends I knew from before they blew up," you say. Your phone dings and you read the texts coming through, smiling. "So my friends are actually in town for a few weeks. They're down to DJ and perform a bit of live music if you want them."
"Well who are they?" Todd wonders.
"If I tell you, not a word of this to anyone. Clear?" All three boys nod. "I know them as Alex and Drew, but they're more famously known as the Chainsmokers."
"Shut the fuck up," David immediately blurts. Todd and Jeff laugh. "Are you serious right now?"
"Yeah." You pull up the texts, showing them to your friends. "They're down to party. They like to surprise people so they'll probably wear masks or something and play some remixes. Then when things really get going, they'll go live."
"Holy shit." Todd is still laughing. "This party is gonna be dope!"
"Now I'm kind of jealous," Jeff chuckles. "Why couldn't you be my neighbor first?"
You scoop up some water in your hand and fling it over your shoulder. "Shut up." Then looking back at David and Todd, you say, "They'll need a stage to set up their shit. Is that do-able?"
"Uh yeah!" David nods.
"Cool. I'll help you plan some more later, but now I need some ideas. What is a good birthday present?"
"Sex."
"David!" Todd and Jeff laugh, and you attempt to splash water at David. He easily sidesteps it. "I'm serious"
Todd smiles. "Honestly? Sing for him. You know he's been wanting to hear you sing live instead of watching your videos."
"Ugh. I rather seduce him." David high fives you and you laugh directly into his camera. "If you put that in the vlog, I'm gonna drown you, Dobrik."
A week and a half later, it's Scott's birthday. Todd has managed to keep him busy all day, but not after you walked across the street to deliver him a birthday cupcake. Scott had beamed when he saw you, and then hugged you and pressed a kiss to your temple as Todd cooed from around the corner.
You had then proceeded to set up all day, laughing at everyone's reactions when Alex and Drew showed up to set up their area with turntables, lights, fog machines, and a few confetti cannons. You only expected some lights and music, so you thanked them profusely for going all out to which they assured you only the best for the guy who apparently held a special place in your heart. You had blushed that they picked up on that and then sighed when David, Natalie, and Zane overheard and continued to tease you throughout the entire day.
You got ready with all the girls at David's and then arrived at the small warehouse where the party was to take place. Alex and Drew wore light-up masks to conceal their identity until later in the party, and the guests started to show up by the carload.
Scott's started texting you about ten minutes ago, skeptical of Todd's motives and vague answers of where they were driving to. You had anticipated that, so you took a few selfies at your house and at David's beforehand to send to him so he wouldn't suspect you were in on anything. It worked.
You get anxious when you realize Scott and Todd have finally arrived, and the whole crowd of guests go silent. As planned, Todd enters first because there was no way Scott was going to when Todd didn't answer his questions, so it's only after Todd ducks out of the way do the lights flick on and everyone shouts Surprise!
Confetti rains down, and horns and sirens blare. Scott is beaming, hugging all his friends who are the front of the group. When he gets to you, he points an accusing finger in your face before wrapping you up in a hug. You laugh and squeeze your arms around his waist until he lets you go.
You're about to hang back as everyone crowds him, but he grabs your hand and the smile he flashes you has your stomach turning. He squeezes your hand and tugs you closer to his side, and you get the feeling that he doesn't want you to wander off too far from him.
The music is a hit with the crowd, as you expected, and Scott seems to be having a good time. The alcohol is flowing, David is directing bits here and there for the vlog, and everyone is having a good time on the dance floor. But soon enough a cake is being wheeled out and the entire crowd is singing happy birthday. Scott is bashful through the whole thing, he blowing out the candles and dodging the first handful of cake that Todd attempts to smash in his face.
"Alright, alright, alright," Alex says from behind his mask. "You guys throw an insane party, but let's kick things up a notch." The crowd cheers as horns blare over the speakers, but you can see the confusion in numerous faces. The masks finally come off and the crowd erupts louder. Scott's eyes widen and he looks at you in surprise. "We are the Chainsmokers and thank you guys for coming out to Scotty's birthday bash."
The music restarts, fog and confetti blasting as the music comes back on.
"Who the fuck got the Chainsmokers?" Scotty asks.
Everyone looks at you and you shrug. "They're friends of mine. I cashed in a favor."
Scott's eyes sparkle. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me yet, babe. The night is still young."
- X - X - X - X - X -
The crowd is still hyped an hour after Alex and Drew had lifted off their masks, and then they're even more hyped when they realize the Chainsmokers are performing live. You, Scotty, David, Toddy, Natalie, Jeff, Heath, Zane, and Mariah are up on stage, and when the song switches to something a little slower Toddy looks at you expectantly. You wink, but make no move as your friend starts to perform the beginning of their hit song Closer. You can see Mariah lip syncing to Heath and you move to the beat next to Scotty, making him dance with you along to the lyrics. He obliges you, chuckling in amusement, and then pulling you closer to him when the beat drops.
Moments later, a microphone is pressed into your hand and you fight off a smirk when you see Scott's eyes widen as you bring the microphone up to your mouth, leading him towards the middle of the stage. "You look as good as the day I met you. I forgot just why I left you; I was insane."
Todd and Zane scream off to the side, holding onto one another. David records the entire thing and you can see your friends from the corner of your eyes as they get hyped up over you serenading Scotty.
"So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover that I know you can't afford. Bite that tattoo on your shoulder." You mock bite at his shoulder and Scott laughs. "Pull the sheets right off the corner of the mattress that you stole from your roommate back in Boulder. We ain't ever getting older."
The beat drops and you're all set to start dancing, but Scotty surprises you. He grabs you by the back of your neck, reels you in, and presses his mouth against yours. Your friends, plus the crowd who you hardly even know, all erupt louder in excitement. Your left hand grasps onto his hip, the other still gripping tight to the microphone. Lights are flashing, confetti is raining down, and you pull back from Scotty to see his bright eyes shining down on you.
Heart pumping furiously, you bring the microphone back up to your mouth to sing, "We ain't ever getting older!" The beat drops yet again and this time it's you who brings him down into a kiss.
Scotty laughing against your mouth sends you into a fit of giggles, and when you eventually pull apart because of all the jostling your friends are doing, he keeps you close enough to mutter, "Best birthday ever," in your ear.

So, thanks to some A+++ enabling from the discord server, I've decided to post my BNHA self insert fanfic. I haven't really talked about my insert, but I plan to sometime in the future, but for now I"ll leave ya'll in the dark.
This whole thing was made just to make me and my friends feel good and give us some much needed self indulgence.
Word Count- 1,550
Hypnotica- My S/I
Grafight- @fictional-characters-are-hot's S/I
Slasher- @alwayslovestruck's S/I
It's been 3 hours.
4 hours since the hero team Discorded was asked to help out with a capturing some drug smugglers.
3 1/2 hours since they found the drug den.
3 hours since Hypnotica sent in Grafight and Slasher to covertly search the place.
3 hours since he's heard a response.
It was a loud, shrill scream that made his blood go cold. Expecting the worst, he decided to find some loiters and use his quirk to get some backup.
After being only able to scour up 2 shadows for his mask alts to posses, he realized the longer he spends time looking for people, the more harm could come to his friends...*family*. Dolly, taking the form of a Harpy, and Dylan taking a shape of a Lion man, will have to do for backup. Hoping that it won't be needed, he finds an open window and heads into the den.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Look! They're opening the crates. That must be how they ship the quirk enhancing drugs."
"Slasher. I can't see shit, it's too dark in here and I don't have dope cat eyes like yo-....wait a sec..."
The younger of the heroes takes out a sketch book and quickly draws our some night vision binoculars and they suddenly 'pop' out into a physical object. After giving a thumbs up, in order to stay quite, Grafight uses the goggles.
"Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiit....that's a lot of powder. How the hell do they sell it all?"
Slasher just shrugs it off and continues watching the group of men, tail swaying as they do.
All of a sudden, all of the men stop moving. A few moments later they all turn to the gurder that the hero duo were perched on.
"Hey! Lookey here fellas, some new 'test subjects' to try the new mix on."
"Oh as if you'd even come close to touching us! You won't even get a chance to lay a finger on us. Right Grafight?"
"Right! Good luck fuckers!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Slasher! Grafight! What's going o-...."
"We won!'
Hypnotica was greeted by the sight of Slasher triumphantly standing with one foot on top of a human mound of passed out thugs while Grafight was looking over the crate of drugs, kicking one of the thugs that started move on the ground.
"Wha- Then who the hell screamed?!"
Grafight, grabbing the thug she kicked by his collar and threatening to punch him again.
"This guy did. I think he's like...the kingpin or something. Screams like a little bitch though."
"We managed to take these guys out super easily, like it was nothing! Can't believe they were talkin' smack like they could beat us..."
Still a bit shaken up from his worry, Hypnotica headed over to check out the crate. Noticing a strange metal box buried slightly underneath some of the drugs, he pulls it out and begins to question the kingpin about it.
"This your tracker? Is this the thing that you use to keep an eye on your 'supplies'?"
"You better answer. Grafight is pretty liberal with bodily harm."
Slasher says as she walks over to look at the box better, poking it with one of her claws.
"...it....it...he.....hehaha..."
"Punching time?" Grafight asks looking up at Hypnotica.
"Not yet. He needs to be conscious to answer our questions."
"Talk then, asshat."
"...doesn't matter....we....we were gunna..."
"Gunna what, idiot?!"
"d....die...die anways..."
"...Punch him Grafight."
Hypnotica grumbles while Dolly pried open the box with her talons.
"Gladly!"
"...I don't think he meant, like, *80 times Grafight...*"
Slasher now worriedly watches as the kingpin get's absolutely destroyed by fists.
"..."
Hypnotica seems frozen as he looks down at the box, unmoving, and holding his breath. Cocking her head, Slasher notices that somethings wrong with him.
"Hey....you alright big bro?"
"..."
Finally stopping her onslaught on the kingpin, Grafight looks over to Hypnotica.
"Cat got your tongue or something?"
Still not saying a word, Hypnotica turns the box so the others can see. In the box is a small glowing green tube with wires attached to it, there's also a countdown screen slightly below it. It's only got 3 seconds left on it.
As her tail drops, so does her heart, with only a few second to accept her fate Slasher meekly gasps as she starts to speak.
'Oh..'
'Shit'
Grafight finishes Slasher's thought, right before everything goes white.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sirens are blaring as the green mist clears from the rubble of what's left of the warehouse. Various bodies are strewn all about, policemen and EMTs were able to arrive on the scene fairly quickly. Not that it mattered, the damage was done. From the looks of everything, there was no survivors, all thugs and kingpin were either crushed by the rubble or suffered from some strange type of asphyxiation. Death seemed to encompass the area, until one of the EMTs discovered a lion like shadowy figure seemingly protecting a group of still breathing bodies. The figure soon dissipated leaving a strange mask in it's place.
The bodies were still alive, but barely, and they needed medical attention and fast.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"-Sources say that the 'hero' team were incapable of apprehending the group and had to resort to extreme measures to stop the-"
"Horseshit! Why would we set off a bomb? We had it covered already, it wouldn't kill them to get their facts straight..."
"Calm down Gummybear, the doc said you shouldn't strain yourself..."
It's been 4 days since Grafight was released from the hospital, suffering from 2 broken arms, rendering her unable to use her quirk...among other things. Fatgum, her partner, had insisted to stay by her side until things healed, neglecting his own hero duties in the process.
"The doc can shove it as far I care! These newscasters have no right to spew out garbage lies like that! It's gunna hurt our rep.... Sure we might not be the nicest, safest, smartest heroes in the game, but we aren't villainous either!"
"...You...you do have a point, but don't worry about it, I"m sure one of the others will give them a piece of their mind and sort things out. Right now you and I have dinner to eat!"
Grumbling as she rose from the couch, Grafight followed her partner to the kitchen, sitting down at the small round dinning table that the family usually shared. This dinner was different though. The table had a nice white satin cloth draped over it, with 2 light candles on top. It seemed that this time these two will be dinning alone.
"Take a seat baby, I'll go grab our meal."
"It better be something good, the meals at the hospital were utter shit..."
She lets her sentence trail on as a covered plate is placed ever so gently in front of her.
"Oh? Did you plan on surprising me? ....Babe, my arms, I can't open it."
"Yeah, my bad, here ya go my sweet Gummy."
Fatgum slowly removes the cover for maximum surprise effect. Once it's off, Grafight can't help but smiley widely as she notices one of her favorite meals, but with a culinary twist. Hotdogs sliced up into star shapes, surrounded by a circle of mashed potatoes, topped with melted cheese, a dash or salt, and a glob of ketchup in the middle of it all.
"So? Ya like?"
"..."
Grafight's eye's start to tear up, but her smile still stays plastered on her face. Fatgum notices right away and goes to quickly grab some tissues.
"Oh Gummy, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to upset you! I just...I just thought I could do something special for ya...I...I-"
"Oh baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabe! I love it! Omg, I love it so much, you're the best, you know that right?"
"I...yeah....no. Wait. YOU'RE the best, you're so strong and special to me, I...I"m just so happy that I didn't lose you...you mean the universe to me."
"Stop...I'm already crying, let's just...let's just enjoy this meal together, okay?"
"Okay. I"m starving anyways..."
Fatgum takes his place across from Grafight, and starts to devour his meal.
"Uh....Ahem...."
"Oh! Yeah, my bad, let me help ya."
The two enjoy their meal together, never breaking their love filled eye contact.

"Slow down Mochi, you shouldn't be over-exerting yourself."
"But Kano, I want to dance! I really like this song...cough cough...it's a total....total banger, and I deserve to have some.....fun after what happened. Everyone else has been so....gloomy since then....I just....want to bring some life.....back into the house is all...."
"I know, I know...but, you won't be able to do much joy-spreading if you can barely walk to the mailbox without getting winded halfway there."
"Hmph, stupid bomb chemicals getting.....getting into my lungs...fucking up my whole system...did they ever figure out what...what was in that tube...anyways?"
"They still haven't called us back about the results yet, but they said the inhaler they gave you was working well enough for us not to worry. So we won't, right Mochi?"
"...Yeah...I guess...I just hate...feeling weak like this...I wanna cry but.... I don't want the others to...to see....they've been through enough....I don't wan them to worry about me...me too..."
Kano takes a moment to think, after a moment he takes Slasher's paw and leads her into the living room.
"Sweety...what are you doing?"
After he gets Slasher to relax on the couch, he walks over the Hypnotica's advance sound system and grabs a homemade looking CD. Putting it in he looks to Slasher.
"The good doctor said YOU shouldn't exert yourself, but....he never said anything about me."
As soon as the music starts, Kano begins to dance in a way that's all to familiar to Slasher. It's a dance they've grown to call the 'Humpty Dance', and no one else in the house can quite get it right like these two.
"Oh Kano! This....this makes me so....happy! Keep...keep going! Maybe...maybe you could...put in some...Slipknot next? Pwetty Pwease?"
"Anything for you my Mochi."
Slasher enjoys the show Kano puts on for almost 2 hours, by the time he gets done, Kano is just about as winded as Slasher has been recently. The two then cuddle on the couch, just taking in each other's slow and labored breathes.

"You will most certainly not."
Sir Nighteye slams his hand down on the counter to emphasize his point, making Hypntoica jump a little.
"And why the fuck not? The need to get their facts straight. I will not stand for all of this fucking slander."
Sir sighs and pushes his glasses up, trying to calm himself down.
"I understand that, but 'kidnapping the newsroom executive' is not the most ideal way to go about it. You can barely walk, even with the crutches!"
Motioning to Hypnotica's broken left leg, and the sprain in his other. Hypnotica just huffs and looks off to the side, still with an angered expression plastered on his face.
"So. Fucking. What? Okay, maybe kidnapping is a bit extreme, but..."
Sir's own angry expression starts to soften as he notices the tears that begin to fall from his partner's face. Wondering how long he's been holding it in.
"...I can't let my family take the blame for a stupid mistake that I made!"
Hypnotica's body begins to shudder as more tears fall, Sir walks over to him and embraces him in a way to try to calm him down.
"It's not your fault...all of you did what you could to try and handle the situation."
"That doesn't excuse all of the death and destruction that happened, and not to mention all the hurt my family is going through because of it!"
"No. It doesn't. But how is any of that your doing, hmm?"
"...I...I..."
"Shh, just stay, and relax. I'll make up a fully detailed report and send out a few copies to some of the stations. They'll most likely use those facts since my name does carry some weight..."
While still holding him with his right hand, Sir uses his left to tilt Hypnotica's chin up to meet his eyes. After a few seconds go by, he rests his head on his partner's.
"...Trust me dear. Everything will turn out just fine."
"Promise?"
"I promise. I saw it."

"A trusted source, who has decided to stay anonymous, has confirmed that the deaths in the Discorded Warehouse accident were not the before mentioned teams fault, but the fault of-"
"Thank you! Finally, a news channel that checks their facts. Even though I'm fine with a few deaths under my belt, but whatever I guess."
"Oh! Look Gummy! That's me! Saving all of those orphans was quite the task, I'll have to tell you all about it later."
"Kano my love! Let me help you with those dishes, there is far to many for one man to clean."
"Thank you Mochi! I kinda went all out with the meal this time, it was a celebration for everyone recovering so quickly....well, mostly everyone..."
"I call bullshit. Of course right after I get healed I trip down the stairs and end up right back to square one."
"Guess that means I'll have play nurse bit longer my dear."

red queen hogwarts au :)
so i’ve finally decided to bring this idea to life..... shoutout to the @redqueenetwork discord for coming up with cool headcanons and help with character sorting!!
this is also my first fic ever DONT be mean. plot is basically mare goes to hogwarts forthe first time and makes friends its very happy. this was super fun to write so hope y’all enjoy.
arrival
Mare had always wondered what lied on the other side of the wall.
Every year, since she was six years old, she’d seen her brothers run straight into it and fade into another dimension, to a secret platform and the train that would take them to Hogwarts. She’d heard insane stories about the place, stuff that belonged in fever dreams or myths. Staircases that moved, forests home to deadly creatures, a gigantic squid on a lake, ghosts that roamed the halls, portraits that could talk… it didn’t sound real. It couldn’t be. But when her letter appeared in their small mailbox one friday in August, she realized maybe her brothers weren’t toying with her after all… that this magical castle hidden in the highlands did exist, and that it housed all those things that came from your wildest dreams and nightmares. And now, she was going to be a part of it all. That didn’t feel real.
She was finally going to cross the wall.
Her mother, Ruth, hugged each of her sons tight, one final goodbye before they left for school. They all hugged Gisa too, Tramy even lifted her up. He was getting stronger, playing that quidditch sport. And off they went. Bree first, pushing into the wall with force. He disappeared. Then, it was Tramy’s turn. Then Shade’s.
Mare’s heart raced, this was really it. Her time had come. She said a quick goodbye to Mom, Dad, and Gisa, and grabbed her cart, which contained a trunk filled with books and a broom, and, with all her strength, pushed straight for the wall.
Out of instinct, she expected a collision that would make her trip into her cart or maybe fall headfirst into the floor, but instead, she emerged in a bustling platform. Her brothers were waiting for her, and they cheered when she came out, high-fiving her. This whole thing was starting to feel like an adventure.
They moved along, making space for new people who entered. Platform 9 ¾ was at its full capacity, with countless families saying goodbye to their children. They were all strangely dressed, in robes or very colorful dress suits. Mare found herself almost clinging to Shade, as Bree and Tramy went to meet their friends. They both stood awkwardly in the middle of the platform looking like lost children, searching the train’s entrance. Mare took this chance to look around. Her eyes landed on a woman, with blond hair elaborately tied in a low bun and a long blue coat (in summer!) whispering to a boy who was undoubtedly a first year like her. The woman stood up, and Mare could notice those around her standing a little straighter. Her icy eyes found Mare’s, and she too tensed. She must be a really powerful witch, Mare thought, she certainly looks like it.
“Come on,” Shade said, grabbing her wrist and pulling them through the crowd. Maybe Shade noticed her staring at the woman.
“Who is she?” Mare asked. She figured she needed to know.
“Elara Merandus. Works for the Ministry-- wizard government. Not one of the good ones there.” Shade explained.
She wanted to know more, to know what the Ministry did, and why she wasn’t “one of the good ones”. But the crowd to the train was moving along.
They entered quickly, and the mumbling from the platform was instantly replaced by the sound of train engines and excited teens. Shade walked along the train, to check for carts they could sit at. Some were full, others had kids much older than them, and others had one or two kids with unfriendly looks on their faces who always answered “sorry, it’s taken” when asking if they could sit. Then, they came across a boy looking absentmindedly through the window.
“Excuse me,” Shade said, “are these seats taken?”
The boy jumped, not having expected a visitor. “What? Oh, no… it’s not taken,” he said. He had hair the color of wheat and very green eyes. Mare and Shade entered the cart, seating in the bench opposite to his. There was an awkward silence for a few moments, Mare turned her attention to her worn sneakers.
The train started moving. A bunch of kids screamed last goodbyes, and Mare kind of wanted to join them, but she had already left her parents behind. Instead, she gripped the edge of her seat a little tighter at the sudden movement.
“I’m Kilorn,” the boy said, “Kilorn Warren.”
Mare laughed a little on the inside. What kind of dumb name is Kilorn?
“I’m Shade,” her brother said, “and this is my sister, Mare Barrow”
Kilorn didn’t bother to hide his laugh. The same can be said about our names, she thought, a bit embarrassed.
“Are you first years too?” Kilorn asked.
“I’m on my second year, Mare’s a first year.” Shade replied before she could.
Kilorn turned all his attention to Mare. “This is all so crazy, isn’t it? The, you know… the train, the school… it’s magic, you know?” He was ecstatic, words spilling from his mouth, and Mare grinned at his enthusiasm. “I thought this was some prank when I got my letter, but… it’s not.”
Mare nodded, remembering when Bree first got his. A strange man with blue robes and close-cut white hair had appeared in their house one morning with a letter, and explained to her parents what this whole wizarding school ordeal was about. They were… shocked, to say the least, but would never refuse the opportunity of free education at a boarding school with all the amenities covered. So, the man had taken Bree to Diagon Alley to get his wizard things, and the Barrows sent him off on September 1st. Everyone after him had gotten just a letter. They were all surprised when Tramy got his, and convinced that everyone in the family was in some way magical when Shade got in too. Mare kind of felt she was, with the way her surroundings seemed to act weird whenever she felt angry, which was more often than she’d like. For that entire year Mare tensed, afraid of being the exception, of not getting her letter. Her parents already treated her like less than her sister, who was beautiful and ladylike… she would not stand the humiliation.
“I was so relieved when I got mine,” she said. “All my older brothers got one. It would be kind of embarrassing if i didn’t”
“Wait, so you’re not… Your parents aren’t wizards?” Kilorn asked, brows furrowing in confusion
“No..”
“Our parents are muggles.” Shade said.
“They were born… normal, but their kids are all magical,” Mare continued.
“You know what, I’m convinced at least one of them is a sorcerer in secret,” Shade said.
“If they were, they would’ve already thrown thousands of jinxes at us.” They both giggled. It was certainly strange, how all of them had magic inside them. Maybe magic just liked the family.
“Are your parents wizards?” Shade asked Kilorn.
A long pause followed. Mare felt the answer before he said it out loud.
“I don’t know who my parents are,” Kilorn said, his voice sorrowful.
Mare’s whole body sank. She didn’t know what to say to this… ‘i’m sorry’ felt like too little. She had never met an orphan, but she could clearly imagine how sad it must be to grow up alone.
A grim silence settled in. Mare watched as the lush green hills passed by, taking her back to when she was younger, running around the prairies of home with her siblings.
“Uh, hello,” a boy suddenly said. He was at the cabin threshold, half hidden. Mare recognized him as the boy the woman was talking to. He had the same deep blue eyes.
“Can I sit with you guys?” he asked.
The three children looked at one another. Mare furrowed her brows at Shade, who was thinking the same thing she was. Associating with this kid was probably not good. But, it would be mean to not let him in.
Kilorn, for his part, didn’t seem to notice their doubt, and said “sure! Come along.”
Reluctantly, the boy sat next to Kilorn, though a few inches apart. There was silence again, and Mare felt a bit… intimidated. But, why? The boy looked just as nervous as she was.
“Are you a first year too?” Kilorn asked.
“Yes,” the boy said. I was with my brother, who’s in his third year, but I didn’t like his friends very much. So I left.”
“Oh,” Mare said. “well, hello.” She tried to smile, but it was an awkward fake smile.
“Hey,” he said, “I’m Maven Calore.” Mare assessed him. He was wearing very nice robes, which made Mare feel kind of off in her old, overworn clothes. He was looking at her, too, though Mare couldn’t figure out what he was thinking.
“Calore…” Shade said, with an inquiring look. “You’re Cal’s brother?”
“Yes…” Maven said with a sigh. “Unfortunately.”
Kilorn giggled.
“Who’s Cal?” Mare asked Shade.
“He’s this Gryffindor guy…” he said, annoyed. “And all the girls in my year are obsessed with him and his fire-colored eyes.” He spoke in his mocking voice. Mare laughed.
“That’s my brother.” Maven said.
“And his name is… Cal Calore?” Mare couldn’t contain her chuckle this time. Why does everyone here have ridiculous names?
“No, it’s Tiberias.” Maven Answered. “Tiberias the seventh.”
Mare raised her brows at that. “The seventh!? What happened to Tiberias one through six?”
Maven laughed. “No, it’s this dumb family tradition. Our father is the sixth and his father is the fifth and so on.”
“Oh, so you’re like… the Royal Wizarding Family or something?”
That Maven wasn’t expecting. He blushed, taken aback, and for a second Mare wondered if that had been too mean.
“They kind of are. I mean-- they’re pretty famous.” Shade said. “They’re famous cursebreakers or something.”
Mare nodded a small ohh. Kilorn raised his brows at the word “cursebreakers.” Maven just shrugged.
“And what kind of curses do they break?” Mare asked.
“I don’t know, like…” Maven furrowed his brows, thinking of a way to explain. “There are like, laws, on how to use magic, and they work in enacting that. They’re not all cursebreakers. Some are aurors.”
“Magical police.” Shade clarified.
“They’re kind of annoying, if you ask me.” Maven said, “Everyone says i’m different to them. I’m not, like, super sporty and stuff. My dad says I should be more like my brother.”
“Oh, my mom’s the same,” Mare said. “She’s super proud of my sister because she can draw really well, and I’m not particularly good at anything”.
They fell into easy conversation, talking about sibling frustrations and family wishes. Kilorn and Shade, for their part, talked about the school, Shade explained the houses and house points and what Quidditch was. Kilorn decided he would like to play, it sounded fun. Mare eventually joined in, saying she’d like to play too (all her brothers did), beating balls while flying sounded fun. Shade also talked about the professors, who was nice and who wasn’t. He seemed to like Julian, the history of magic teacher, who was also head of the Ravenclaw house, which was, according to Shade, the best one. Part of Mare hoped she’d be sorted there just to be with her brother, but she felt she wasn’t brainy enough. There was also Anabel, the potions teacher, who wasn’t that nice to students that got on her ugly side.
“Basically you have to one, be smart, or two, be a slytherin, if you don’t want her to be hard on you,” Shade explained.
“Looks like she plays favorites.” Mare said.
“Yeah the slyths are quite literally snakes. Really. That’s their animal.”
Mare decided in that moment that she didn’t want to be in slytherin.
Shade kept going over the teachers. There was Carmadon, the funny herbology teacher, and Davidson, the Defense against the dark arts teacher. According to Shade, he was really strict in class but outside class he would talk with the students, and was very nice.
The rest of the ride passed quickly, and soon it was time to change into their uniforms. The castle came into view. It really was huge, with bridges and pointed towers. Dark, yet strangely welcoming.
All over the train, there were cheers and gasps of surprise as they got closer. Mare watched the school approach through the window with Kilorn and Maven, thinking woah, this really is real…
The descent from the train is hurried and messy. Shade leaves for his friends, a group of boys dressed in the same blue robes, and the trio of first years is left to be carried by the crowd. Maven gets lost, and Kilorn and Mare end up joining the cluster of other first years, who are indicated to follow a big man named Hagrid. He gives a brief tour of the castle grounds. They were at the Great Lake, where the huge squid resided. on the other side a little to the left was the forbidden forest, which Mare kind of wanted to enter, to find why it was forbidden. At second thought she decided it’d be a terrible idea. Then, very far on the other side, the quidditch pitch. The place was gigantic.
In small groups, the kids crossed the lake in carriages pulled by invisible horses. Mare and Kilorn boarded one with a boy named Thomas and a girl named Sonya, who didn’t seem to enjoy sitting with any of them.
Once they were on the other side, the thirty-something first years continued into the castle. Mare couldn’t keep her jaw from dropping as she walked through the oak double doors and into a torchlit entrance hall. There was a grand staircase in front of them, and she could hear muffled talk from somewhere. She didn’t have much time to take in her surroundings, as the party was quickly moved to a room at the right.. Before she entered, she glimpsed four hourglasses filled with glittering stones, one for each house, she guessed.
So this is the Great Hall. It was the biggest dining room Mare had seen in her life. Her eyes went straight to the ceiling, it was open… bewitched, Mare remembered, from one of Shade’s letters, to look like the night sky. It was just as beautiful as she’d imagined.
The great hall had four long tables, each occupied by students from different houses. Mare recognized them by color. The closest one was the green one, slytherin. Then blue, ravenclaw, where Shade was. Then came yellow, Hufflepuff, which was Tramy’s house. And the farthest one was Gryffindor, Bree’s house.
The kids hurried to the right wall, where another long table stood on its own platform, overlooking the other four. The professors’ table. Right in front of it, there was a small stool with a very old hat sitting on it.
Mare knew what came next, and it made her heart race. The sorting ceremony. The moment that would determine where you belonged in Hogwarts. Excitement flood the room, as hopeful students cheered for their houses, and the newcomers breathed heavily, a mix of nerves and adrenaline. Mare spotted Bree smiling at her from his table and couldn’t help but smile back. The students stood in front of the teachers’ platform and the headmaster, a wizard with a long, white beard called Dumbledore, welcomed them with a speech. He was weird, Mare concluded. Even by wizard standards.
Then it was time for the sorting. It opened with the hat singing a very off-key yet catchy song about the houses, how they were founded and what each house meant. Mare had no idea where she might end up. Maybe Gryffindor, people thought of her as brave-- but she definitely didn’t see herself as similar to Bree in any way. She had always been more like Shade… but she wouldn’t fit in Ravenclaw; she didn’t have a passion for knowledge and wouldn’t say she was creative. She wouldn’t deny she was smart, though… so it was a possibility. Hufflepuff was completely scratched, she was not hardworking nor kind. The only one left was slytherin… her brothers had joked she’d end up there, with her little revenge plans she pulled off whenever Bree or Tramy decided to get on her ugly side. Well, it was always her idea and Shade’s execution. But, from what she’d heard, a house of pretentious rich kids and mean teachers wasn’t that appealing to her. She ended up deciding to leave it to the hat.
The first kid to go up was Alice Zhang, hufflepuff. They were calling the kids in reverse alphabetical order, which meant she was going to be one of the last ones… great, she thought, mentally rolling her eyes. She wanted to get over it quickly but no, she’d have to wait.
Kilorn was next. He grinned wide when the hat announced “Hufflepuff!” He had been eyeing the house, hoping to end up there. And so, one by one, the students stepped forward and sat in the stool to have their houses chosen. Most of them were happy with their new school family. Some had expected it. Others hadn’t, and were pretty shocked from it. But also the students didn't care about most of the newcomers.
The attention was on two students: Maven and Sonya Iral from the carriage. Mare couldn’t help but listen at people’s muttering about them.
“... with a family like that I bet you five galleons she'll end up in Ravenclaw or Slytherin”
“That boy’s definitely a Slytherin”. “How are you so sure? Every Calore ever has been a Gryffindor.” “He just looks like one. I can see it in his face.”
“... with a mother like that…” “I’ve never met Elara, but I hear that she could defeat he-who-must-not-be-named with her stare only.”
Mare’s eyes were suddenly very open. Who was this he-who-must-not-be-named person and why didn’t Shade tell her about him? It was certainly important.
“Sonya Iral,” The professor, McGonagall, called.
The girl walked toward the stool. She looked like one of the mean girls who would call your shoes ugly in fourth grade, with long black hair straightened to perfection and deep tan skin, and moved with the grace of a ballerina.
“Slytherin!”
Mare startled at the loud cheers behind her. She would cheer too, she thought, if she had one of the richest people in the school in her house.
“All the posh kids are making it to slyth,” she heard, coming from a table to her left.
“It’s always the rich ones in slytherin… I don’t think I’ve seen a muggleborn in that house in years,” another student said.
“I mean, nowadays being a muggleborn in slytherin would suck…”
Mare swallowed hard. Maybe I could end up in gryffindor.
A few more students passed. Ravenclaw. Gryffindor. Gryffindor. Slytherin.
Then, “Maven Calore.”
Maven walked slowly to the stool, all eyes on him. People were still betting on his placement, which made Mare mentally sigh in annoyance. She glanced at the Gryffindor table, all of them on their toes. Her eyes focused on a guy who was maybe thirteen, and had eyes literally the color of fire. That must be Cal the seventh, Mare thought. He was staring hopefully at his brother, hands clasped in front of his mouth.
Maven, to his favor, looked calm.
“Slytherin!” the hat declared.
Gasps traveled through the whole hall. Jaws dropped to the floor and eyebrows shot to the ceiling as Maven walked to his house, which, to the shock of everyone who knew the Calores, was not Gryffindor. He was almost… proud? Or, looked like it, with his back straight and his strides long and confident. The green table roared, welcoming his new student, son of some… really powerful people. Mare was starting to think the Slytherin house wasn't a house of like-minded students, but an exclusive club of trust fund children. One she certainly could not belong to. Or could she?
She was about to find out.
Mare felt her blood run down her veins like sparks, suddenly feeling very anxious. Rachel Brown, Ravenclaw. She breathed in, breathed out. Felt her leg shake. Edward Bennett, Hufflepuff. She braced herself. This was it.
“Mare Molly Barrow.”
She hurried to the stool, hearing murmurs about her potential house. “Gryffindor, for sure.” “She looks a bit Ravenclaw to me.” “No, I know it. That’s a Slytherin face.” “She has the same look as Farley, definitely a Gryffindor.”
McGonagall put the hat on top of her unruly head. She cringed when she felt the hat speak inside her mind. It’s looking through my brain…
“I see quite a bit of nerve in there…” it said. “Oh. oh, yes, you are a courageous one, child.”
She smiled. Gryffindor, then? She couldn’t help it, bt a bit of disappointment fell on her shoulders at that.
“No… i see that, while brave, you are twice as cunning. Intelligence sharp as a viper’s” Her eyes sparked, quickly assessing the room, finding Maven’s by chance.
“It could not be more clear… SLYTHERIN!”
Mare grinned and walked toward her table, her house, while cheers surrounded her from all sides. A part of her sank when she realized the slytherin table was the one cheering the least.
Still, they welcomed her with smiles as she sat. “Hey!” Maven said, shocked as was the rest of the house, whispering among them and giving her looks that ranged from confusion to plain disgust. Some, like Maven, were actually happy she was there. A girl with silver hair and dark grey eyes was surveying her intently. Mare couldn’t figure out if it was curiosity or malice in her eyes. She wanted to feel welcomed, she really did, but from what she’d heard about her new house, she wondered if she ever would. Everyone looked so composed and elegant… and there she was, straight out of a muddy village. She felt small, and off, so she decided to distract herself from her thoughts and focus on the ceremony… which was ending.
“Hello! Welcome to Slytherin,” a voice said, taking her out of her gloom. A girl was standing over her, she had bright red hair which reminded her of Gisa’s, and wore a wide, welcoming smile. “I’m Mariella Haven. Prefect. If you need help with anything, you can come to me or any other Prefect.”
Mare smiled. She seemed… genuinely nice. “Hey, thank you,” she said. Mariella gave her and Maven a polite smile and walked back to her seat, which was near the edge of the table.
“I feel strange here,” Mare whispered to Maven, as the table suddenly got filled with all kinds of foods.
“Me too,” he whispered back. A small pressure released from Mare’s shoulders, knowing she wasn’t alone in her feelings of inadequacy.
Eagerly, students started filling theri plates, and she did the same, helping herself to Turkey and a very colorful salad. This must be the most appetizing food she’d seen in her life, and her eyes sparkled with excitement.
As the start-of-term feast went on, the six first years of Slytherin chatted eagerly about the train ride and what the hat had said and how happy they were to be placed in the best house. For some, it was a family tradition, almost. Sonya and Maven both said they felt kind of good for going out of their family’s norm. Mare didn’t speak much, but still she could feel a tight bond of loyalty forming between her and her housemates, no matter their differences. Maybe she’d make a place for herself here, after all. She had to.
