Looks familiar...?
Several times while wandering through the F.O.L. Orphanage Finny has the feeling that he has seen the building and the rooms within it somewhere before.
Tumblr media
And he’s right. Parts of the orphanage look very similar to rooms in the Phantomhive Manor. Here are some examples (left: Phantomhive Manor; right: F.O.L. Orphanage):
There’s the big staircase at the entrance...
Tumblr media
...the reception room...
Tumblr media
...or the servants’ room:
Tumblr media
Looks like someone modeled the orphanage after Phantomhive Manor.
And it’s not just the looks. The children in the orphanage are being taught to act like servants and to manage a household like a manor...
Tumblr media
...and then there are children whose teachings (and way of dressing) are very similar to the Phantomhive twins’ education and tastes.
Tumblr media
It kinda seems as if the orphanage is trying to recreate the twins. The focus on games...
Tumblr media
...even the preference of certain tastes (which is something the “aptitude test” is asking about)...
Tumblr media
...that they get their own room (which again looks familiar) when they turn ten (a very important date in the twins’ lives).
Tumblr media
All these similarities to the twins are kinda eerie and too much to be a coincidence. I wonder what’s the purpose of that...

Hi, I want to start this message by saying that I absolutely adore Coattails! This fic is such a pleasure to read! One of the things I love about this story is how you make Sebastian think about things he has done in the past (aka in the manga) to Ciel and how that affected the boy. It is interesting to see Sebastian's change through that. And I can't help but wonder: What coattails Sebastian would think now about how he reacted to and handled Ciel's PTSD panic attack in the circus arc?
Hello, anon! Thank you for reading Coattails and enjoying it so much! It's fun to make Sebastian reflective, to show how much he's changed and to explore guilt from the perspective of someone who isn't human and doesn't quite experience it the way a human does.
I suppose that while Sebastian did expound on the night at Baron Kelvin's manor a little bit in chapter 17, we haven't seen him return to it since he fully embraced his Dadsona. I would say that Sebastian's feelings towards his past actions are somewhat disconnected though. He kind of sees the "old Sebastian" as separate from who he is currently, so he can think to himself, "That was a pretty stupid thing I did!" and yet not really feel like it was his current self's fault.
He is more interested in who he is now, what he can do now, and more likely to feel guilt for the mistakes he makes as his current parental self. I guess in short and without really intending to, I gave him an Agni-style rebirth where his demon life is something he knows was his and yet feels shed like an old skin.
