The Girls Bathroom
•••
Part 1
Part 2 -
This is a short story I wrote for my 10th grade creative writing class and I thought I'd share:)
*trigger warnings*
Eating disorders
Mental disorders
Drug/alcohol use
Violence
Child predator/abuse mention
Implied suicide
Another night without sleep. It’s growing less uncommon now. I’ve taken so many things to help me sleep, youd be surprised that something hasn’t worked by now.
My window is open. I’ve always liked it that way. It lets the night time air into my room, and it fills my lungs with the sweetest scent, that if it were bottled, I would keep it on me at all times. I’d be the girl people would ask what perfume I was wearing. I’d be the one they complimented. I’d be the one they talked to, in an admiring way.
The smell reminds me of my childhood home. It reminds me of the smell of a thick and damp forest. It reminds me of the silent happy times. I let the night breeze create ripples in my curtains.
And It’s peaceful.
It’s peaceful to watch a force of nature calmly move something as simple as a sheer white window curtain to the beat of its own rhythm. To make it move like it’s dancing in water.
I’m writing all my thoughts down again, like I do every time my mind won’t sleep. I’ve noticed that everything feels so surreal at these times. Everything is quiet, the moon is the only light source in sight, the wind making the only other movement besides myself, and the world is still. I lay on my back and stare up at the ceiling, just stare and think about the world, and about life. Stress comes and goes at these times but it usually doesn’t stay that long.
I think about my family, about myself, about strangers. I wonder if strangers do this too? Do they wear themselves out in the adventure we call curiosity?
I keep asking questions until I finally fall asleep to the sun peaking over the mountains.
...
I haven’t been to school in weeks. I haven’t actually left my room in weeks either, if you’re not counting the trips to the bathroom. I feel like I've just been a whirlpool of emotions. One second I feel fine, and the next I feel like I’m in someone else’s body, wanting to scream. But today- today is the day I’m changing that.
I get up, take a shower, and apply the minimum amount of makeup I actually have.
No one is awake in the house, so I slip out without a sound.
If I’m honest, I don’t know why I thought it was a good idea to go to school now, because the second I stepped through the glass doors, I was bombarded with shouts, shoves, and the smell of axe body spray. But right as I was about to turn around, get back into my car, and drive far, far away from this hell-hole, the vice principal noticed me. I saw the shock, and excitement light up in her eyes.
She made a b-line for me.
There was no escape.
...
After an hour or so of sitting and listening to her gush about how much the school had missed me, and that if I "Ever needed anything to come talk to her, or any of the school faculty", I was able to leave her office. If I knew that I would get this bombarded with unwanted attention, I would have never left my house in the first place.
I would just dwell in the thought that I would have to make a living becoming a fast food worker, or selling my body to Sin City herself.
But that would still be better than this.
...
The brick walls of the school seemed to piss me off even more than they used to now. They seemed to mock me, to make me feel like even more of a failure, with their posters of encouragement and activities. I headed into the girls bathroom to take a breather. Everything starting to kick in. I dashed into a stall and let my empty stomach empty itself even more. Nothing had actually happened to trigger any sort of panic, and I hated myself for it even more. I hated the fact that I couldn't be around people with no filters. I hated that I couldn't sit still in class. I hated that I couldn't just be normal. And now I'm just sitting on the floor trying not to think. But then I hear a knock, and a voice, gently, and quietly asking if I'm alright. My eyes widen. I don't know why I didn't think I would be the only one in a public highschool's girl's bathroom. Theres a part of me that hopes if I stay silent then whoever it was on the other side of the door would go away. But the voice comes back a second time. Still quiet, still gentle, but more urgent. Sounding like they were actually worried. Coming to the conclusion that I can't hide, I stand up and open the door to see one of the school's cheerleaders, Vanny. Her real name was Savannah, but everyone only ever called her Vanny. She looked as surprised as I was when she saw who was standing in front of her.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to bother you. I just heard.. gagging, and I wanted to make sure that whoever it was, was alri-”
I quickly cut her off.
“It’s okay! Really!”
Wow, I sound flustered.
“I just needed to let some things…uh… out.”
She let out a small breathy laugh at that.
“Yeah, I can tell.” she said
I can just feel the temperature in my cheeks raise at record breaking speed. My internal panic growing with it.
“I- uh- sorry…”
God, I'm a mess.
She lets out another laugh at that, but this time something that looked somewhat like sympathy showed in her eyes.
“Don’t be sorry. Really. I get it. It happens to me too.”
I gape at her a little.
But not so much that she would notice. Or at least I hope I so.
What on earth is happening.
But before I can even finish that thought, she's speaking again.
“I haven’t seen you around all year. I didn’t think about it that much till now. Do you wanna talk about it?”
She didn't wait for an answer and made her way into the handicap stall and sat against the wall. She just gestures for me to do the same. Part of me wonders if this was some kind of joke. If she had people outside the girls bathroom just waiting to torment me. But against my better judgement, I sit. I can't figure out how I am supposed to act, sit, or even breath. Is there even a right way to handle this?
She begins talking about her history with depression and anxiety. And normally when I hear someone say they have it, it’s not actually the “real deal” if you will. It’s just someone who thinks that it’s the end of the world when something unexpected and bad pops up in their life.
And I know it sounds terrible to judge a person like that, but it's just how things tend to be around here.
But she, she wasn’t like that.
She tells me everything. How she can’t sleep at night, so she goes on drives. And how she finds that puking her guts out, nasty and as toxic as it seems, feels a little like a release. She tells me about her “friends” and how much she wishes that she could talk to them about everything that’s going on. She just tells me everything. Every feeling she gets. Every reason a tear sometimes slips from her brown eyes.
Everything.
I didn’t know that a person could feel the same way I did. I didn’t know that I could understand a stranger more than myself in just 30 minutes.
These talks become a regular thing for us. After our second period classes, while the rest of the school left for lunch, we would go into the girls bathroom on the second floor. Into the handicap stall on the far right. And we would talk about everything.
Vanny was kind. She held the door for me when we were together, she spoke to me like a real person rather than a joke, and she felt like home. There were days however, where she didn’t talk to me. She would send me apologetic glances from across the room so I tried not to think too much about it. I understood. She had a reputation to uphold. And I wasn’t apart of that. If I was, everyone would think of it as a joke. That she was just getting close to me to make fun of me. That was the part I worried about.
I just wanted to mean something more to her than that.
I just wanted a friend.
Everyday that I spent with Vanny lead me into a deeper spiral of what I would call bliss. It was almost like, any trouble I had, any insecurity I had, she could instantly wash away with one look.
...
I was stopped at an intersection driving home from school, when I noticed the people in the car in beside me were fighting. I didn’t want to invade their privacy, but then I noticed who was sat in the passenger seat. Vanny. The guy, was much older. Dark grey hair, and stubble across his chin. He had his hand on her thigh. I couldn’t see what his expression was clearly, but I had a pretty solid guess. Vanny looked very uncomfortable, she slapped his hand away and said something with her brows furrowed. The guy just laughed and put his hand back. She tried to push it away again but the guy wouldn’t budge.
I decided to try calling her to make sure she was alright but the phone went straight to voicemail. I started to panic. I didn’t know what to do. I started to roll down the window and shout but the light finally changed to green and the car sped off. I wanted to change lanes and potentially follow them, but I couldn’t with all of the traffic of eager teeangers wanting to go home after a long day. I tried to try calling a few more times, but failed to get any sort of answer.
My phone was hot from being pressed to my cheek for so long. I got home and the house was empty once again. This time though, my heart sank. I didn’t know who to ask about what I should do.
Me, in my panicked state decided to call the police.
I started blurting out everything that happened but it didn’t help. Without the guys name, plate number, or address, there was nothing they could do besides go to Vanny’s house and see if she was there and OK.
I couldn't sleep. My mind was racing with all of the possible things that could be happening right then to my Vanny.
No.
Not my Vanny.
Just Vanny.
I got a call from the police station just hours later. They told me she was safe at home and that I had no reason to worry.
Everything was fine.
...
I still however rushed to school the next morning, calling and texting her trying to get some sort of insight to if she was really alright. I kept tapping my foot all through my first two periods. My mind couldn’t seem to focus on anything other than the thought of Vanny.
She needed to be okay.
What felt like years of waiting for that wretched bell to signal my release from this prison of unmatched bricks and books, it rang.
I all but ran to the second floor bathroom. And let me tell you, I have never been so happy to hear someone crying. I knocked on the door precisely six times to let her know it was me. I heard her shuffle and stand up. When the door unlocked I rushed in to hug her.
Her face was tear stained, but her eyes were empty.
We sat down and I held her.
Everything just felt... wrong.
I didn't know how to ask her what happened.
I didn't know if I even should.
She felt so fragile in my arms, that I was scared I would break her by saying anything else.
We sat in the bathroom in silence for the rest of the day.
I just let her cry.
At the end of the day I offered to take her home but she fervently said no.
I took her to my house instead, only so I could make sure she was safe.
...
The car ride home was quiet. I was waiting for the right time to ask her about what had happened but I still just didn't know how.
She had stopped crying hours ago but she kept the same empty look in her eyes.
I watched her out of the corner of my eye, just staring at the passing houses.
Her brown hair falling over her shoulders like silk.
I finally spoke up.
"Savannah, what happened?"
She jumped at the sudden sound of my voice.
I couldn't tell if she was going to answer or start crying again.
She was so unreadable.
But her dry lips parted, and her voice rasped out.
"My..."
She breathed out, sounding so wounded.
I had pulled the car into an empty grocery store parking lot and faced her.
"My stepfather... tried t-to...."
She couldn't finish. Her eyes welled up again with tear and she broke.
Her face buried in her hands.
I didn't know what to say.
So many thoughts were racing through my head.
I couldn't speak.
I just stared at her completely horrified.
I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out.
She lifted her face and looked me in the eyes.
"Please don't tell anyone."
"Vanny we have to call the cops we-"
"No!" She yelled, I had never heard her yell.
"Promise me you won't tell anyone. Not your family, not any teachers, not the police."
She was urgently begging me.
"Vanny I can't just let this be. This is serious. He needs to be put in prison for this-"
"Please." She said once more.
"Please."
I looked at her.
Red, wide, eyes staring deep into my soul.
"I-I can't..."
...
I called the police once we got to my house explaining everything.
They got a warrant to search Vanny's stepdad's things and found digital folders of child pornography. They didn't have enough to charge him with the assault, but the files were enough to put him away.
When it happened, Vanny didn't speak to me for weeks.
She was convinced I had betrayed her.
But she eventually came back.

The Day He Walk's Away!
Introduction Chapter
*Third Person*
It was around twelve in the morning, when the team got the call about Gideon being murdered in his own home. Everyone rushed over to, his house. Spencer and Y/N was the last two to get there. When they walked into the house, they could see cops cleaning up the crime scene, with Gideon's body still laying there on the ground covered up with a white sheet. Y/N couldn't believe it. Though she was new to the team she had always heard good things about him. Reid was angry and distraught from the news they had just gotten from Hotchner.
Reid walks out of the cabin. 'This isn't real' he thought to himself. Reid is taking it the hardest because of the fact Reid was the closes to him, and Giddeon had left a note for him when he decided to leave the BAU for good. It broke Y/N's heart to see her boyfriend in pain. She followed out after Reid to talk to him. But she couldn't find him anywhere. Then she noticed their car was gone. "He just left me here?" She said to no, one in particular. She was worried very much about her boyfriend. "I'll give you a ride to check on, the Kid." Rossi says to Y/N. She nodded her head as she got into one of the Suv's with Rossi.
After the case was solved about who murdered Gideon, Y/N was waiting for Reid to get home so, she can give him the news about him going to be a father. It had been a week since Gideon's death an Y/N, thought that the news would help bring light to the dark pain in her, boyfriends head.
Y/N, just finished up dinner, as read was walking through the door. "Hey, handsome." Y/N, says to Reid smiling up at him. "Hey, beautiful." He replies back to her kissing her lips softly. "Dinner is ready." She says to him. "Let me get washed up." He says as he walks to the bathroom. After about ten minutes Reid, came back down the stairs and into the kitchen. Y/N had two plates made and two glasses of soda on the table.
Reid, smiles at her a little as he began to eat his dinner. Y/N, ate her dinner in silence. After they were both done eating, and Y/N, cleaned up the kitchen. After she had finished the kitchen, Y/N, went and sat next to Reid. "Reid, I have something to tell you. No, it's not bad before you ask." She says to him. Reid looks at her, letting Y/N, know she has his attention. "Reid, I know you've had a bad week" She started. "Yeah, I agree. I'm just glad I have you by my side." He said as he looks into her soft E/C eyes.
"I'm glad that, I have you." She said. She looks at him "Reid, I'm pregnant" Y/N, said looking at Reid. Reid turns his head and looks at her. "You're what?!?!" Is all he could get out. Y/N, repeats herself "I'm pregnant."
"You're pregnant? Are you sure that, you're pregnant? I'm not ready for kids, Y/N." Reid, looks at Y/N, as she began to tear up. "What? Yes, Reid I'm sure. I went to the doctors and they did a blood test. It came back positive, that I am pregnant. I went three days before Gideon was killed." Y/N, whispers as the tears fall from her (E/C) eyes, and stain her cheeks. "Why didn't you tell me about it sooner?" Reid, asks her.
"Because I wanted to surprise you with the news. But the night was gonna tell you, you got the call that Gideon was murdered. I was giving you time to calm down, and not bombard you with a lot of news. "It" isn't an it. It's a human being that is growing inside my belly." Y/N, said starting to get upset.
After Y/N, finished talking Reid stood up and walks out of the house, after saying "Goodbye, Y/N. You and the baby, are better off without me." And with that Reid, got in his car and left.
Y/N, sat on the couch for two hours sobbing. When she finally calmed down, she called her bestfriend Rossi. She waited for him to answer as it is ringing. After about the third ring he answers. "Hey, Y/N." He said answering the phone. "Hey, R-Rossi" she said sniffling. "What happened? Are you okay?" He asks her. "R-Reid, left..... left.... me. He said me and the baby are better off without me" Y/N, said starting to cry and cough a little. "I'm on my way. Pack your stuff. You're staying with me." She could tell Rossi, was angry. "I can't do that to you. I don't wanna be a burden on you."
Rossi spoke his head as he got in his car, an shut the door. "Y/N, you'll never be a burden on me." He said as he starts the car and began to drive. "I'm on my way. Now go an get some of your stuff packed." He said not giving her time to argue. She wasn't gonna argue though, because arguing with Rossi, you'll lose that argument.
Y/N, went upstairs and packed her suitcases full of her clothes, shoes, hair brush and make-up, and all her personal belongings. When she was done she walks down stairs. Not much longer Rossi, was knocking on the front door. Y/N got up off the couch an opens the door. "Hey beautiful" He says to her. 'Beautiful' is Rossi's, nickname for Y/N. She sniffles looking up at him. "Hey Rossi." She said as he hugs her and she began to quietly cry in his chest.
Rossi, rubs Y/N's, back softly as he sighs softly. "Come on, beautiful let's get this stuff in the car." He said to her softly. She nods her head as she agrees to what he said. After they got to Rossi's house, he makes Y/N, go inside and relax while he got everything out of the car and into the house.
Y/N, was sitting on the couch, while Rossi was cleaning out the car. When Rossi, finished he walks over to his couch, and sat down next to her. Y/N, looks at him pain clearly in her (E/C) eyes and on her face. Without any words from Y/N, Rossi, already knew the question in her mind. "I know. I thought, he would've been happy. I didn't know that he would do this to you. Just give him a few days Y/N. Maybe he just needs some time." Rossi said as he gives Y/N, hug. "What if he doesn't? How am I supposed to go to work, we're on the same team?" She said as she sniffles a little bit. "I know you, don't want to but maybe transfer to a new team or take time off. You don't have to worry about anything I have plenty of rooms for you to stay here and that baby." Rossi said.
Y/N, looks at Rossi. "Rossi, can I ask you something?." He nodded his head "Yes, ofcourse." Rossi replies. "Would you be the baby or babies, godfather?" Y/N, asks softly. "Yes, I would be honored to be the baby or babies, godfather."
Rossi and Y/N, sat up for a few more hours talking before he showed her up to a spear bedroom, that's fully furnished with its own bathroom attached to it. Y/N, had fallen asleep within a few minutes of laying down.
~~~Three Months Later~~~
Y/N, just got home from a case and she was now on a two week vacation. It had been three months since Spencer, walked out and her transfer to a new team. When everyone found out why she transferred to a new team, they weren't happy with Spencer, and just as shocked as she was. Y/N, made Emily and Garcia, the godmothers, an also Morgan a godfather just incase anything happens to herself, or one of the team members, the baby or babies will always be with family. Y/N, made everyone promise not to hate or hurt Spencer, because though he walked out, she still loves him with all her heart.
Rossi, wanted Y/N, to feel at home so, he sent her to stay with JJ and Will, for a little bit. He was gonna surprise Y/N, with something that is more home feeling than plan walls. An since she was on vacation, and he wasn't gonna get a call unless if was for a case.
Y/N, got to JJ and Will's house. As she walks up the steps she knocks on the door and waits patiently. After a few minutes the door opens. "Hey Y/N. Come in" Will said opening the door for her to get in. "Thank you, for letting me stay here. Rossi, insists, that I get out of the house for a little while." She said. "He's just worried about you. We all are. An if you ever need anything JJ and I, are here for you." Will says to Y/N. She gave a small nod as she set her bags down.
"Where is JJ?" She asks Will. "She went out to get food for lunches." He replied. "Is there anything I can help with?" She asks hopeful. "Not at the moment. Henry and Michael, are napping, and the house is cleaned. Relax for a little because I know when the boys wake up they're going to be happy to see, Auntie Y/N." He said. She nods smiling a little as she sat at the kitchen table.
Will hands her something to drink. "How is living with Rossi?" Will, asks Y/N. "Its not bad at all. He makes me take it easy so, I don't over do myself. I help with what I can, if I'm able to help" She replies sipping her drink. They talked for a while before JJ, got back home. "Hey Y/N, guess who I found wondering in the mall shopping for you and the baby?" She said. Y/N, looks up to see a giddy Garcia and a whole lot of bags. "Those aren't all for me and little bean are they?" She asks giggling a little. "No, this one is for Derek." She said holding up one bag.
"When do I get to see, what you got?" Y/N, asks Penelope. "At the Baby shower. Except for this one" She said handing a bag to her. Y/N, took the bag and looked in it. She gasps softly at what was in the bag. "Penny, it is beautiful" She said taking the big black and red skull blanket out of the bag. "That one was a fight to get. Cause another one tried fighting me to get it." Garcia giggles. "Thank you, Penny." Y/N, says.
JJ, smiles. "There is the smile, we all missed" She said to Y/N. She knew that Y/N, was still a bit upset after Reid, left. "Movie night, tonight. Everyone is coming over." Will said. Y/N, frowns a little. "Reid, isn't going to be here. He already said he wasn't coming." Penny said. Y/N, just nods her head and slipped her drink.
After the movie night and dinner, everyone left and went home. Y/N, was laying down sleeping soundly.
____
Esther arrived earlier and the first thing she did was to sit Kol down to talk to him. As per usual it didn't go all too well.
"Racing is one thing I am good at"- Kol said to his mother-"I am not giving it up."
"Do you know how I feel every time you get into that boat to race. My heart clumps up, and I just cannot breathe from fear that something might happen to you."- Esther said.
"Nothing will happen to me. Anyway, this may be the last season I race anyway. I want to get the grand prix once more. I am right up there among the greatest, mother, you know. Three times in a row. Noone achieved that."
Esther huffed a bit, not happy about it all, but now said-
"Right. You promise you will quit after this season is over? I want a solemn promise! And you will not go back on it?"- Esther asked.
Promising something he wasn't quite sure he would be able to keep, especially if he said the words now he would have to uphold- it was not easy for Kol. And so, well, he could not bring himself to do it.
As he wavered, Esther now disappointingly just waved at her son-
"Go, please."
"Mother, I just-"- Kol started, but she cut him off.
"I don't want to hear anything more, Kol."- Esther said-"please now leave. I am at the end of my thethers with you!"
Kol hated leaving things so tense and continued-
"I know that this is all because of what had happened to Father and Klaus, but- I cannot live under a sheltered glass dome, you so want to put me in, same as Elijah. This is not me. Sorry, but I just can't"
Kol's phone rang and he let it ring, standing like the lost sheep, feeling bad, as Esther was now teary remembering Klaus and Mikael.
"Will you answer this phone-"- she now said agitated.
Kol looked at the display-uttering-
"It's Y/N"
"Answer her"- Esther urged her son.
Kol now answered, leaving the study.
Esther sat down in the armchair wiping her tears off glancing at the family photo on the desk.
"I miss you so much" - she uttered.
There was a knock on the door and Elijah entered saying-
"I am sorry to interrupt, but Larson asks when it would be best to serve dinner? Also, I have just met John's niece Elena in front of the house-"
"Ah, yes-"- Esther now looked at Elijah-"I completely forgot to tell you that she was coming-"
Kol, who finished his conversation with his girlfriend now came back in and said-
"Elena? Little Elena?"- Kol asked-"the hermit?"
Elijah now recalled that they spoke about John Gilbert's niece not long ago. Now he turned to his brother and asked him why he called a hermit.
"Ah, she would always hide. Lurking. Never could talk to her. Well, she could not even get a word out. So, she is back? She came to visit her uncle?"- Kol said.
"Yes."- Esther replied adding-"And I want her to feel like she is at home."
Both Kol and Elijah were uttering Of course, that goes without saying.
"Fine"- Esther said and the woman was ready to get out now and find the butler, when they heard a knock at the door. As Esther said enter, Elena walked in.
She didn't look anything like the teenager Kol remembered. He now looked at her wide-eyed. There in front of them, stood a sheer beauty, greeting everyone present politely, especially Esther.
"Elena!"- Esther now went to the woman welcoming her warmly. Elijah nodded at her not taking his eyes off of her as well. Elena also nodded back at him. Then Kol took over expressing all what Elijah's heart thrummed at that moment, not understanding what was happening to him. It's not like he had never seen a beautiful woman before, or been with one.
"Is this really you? Wow- you've changed! Hey- great to see you! Where have you been hiding all this time? Ah, yeah, London, was it?"
"Yes. I lived in England"- Elena replied.
The butler now knocked wanted to know if dinner could be served.
And now Esther ushered everyone to the dining room. And Kol continuing to chat about London with Elena as they went out of the study. Elijah and Esther followed, letting those two go, stopping his mother for a moment asking about the lunch with the Y/L/N.
"They are ready to invest"- Esther said-"but they want 40%"
"That is steep. The board would not be happy."- Elijah said.
"If they become family, things could be negotiated."
"What do you mean, family?"- Elijah asked.
"Well, Y/N and Kol have been together since their freshmen year- so they hope this will end up in marriage. At least Marie sees it that way"
"Kol- getting married?"- Elijah said like he had never had anything more ludicrous in his life-"they might have been together- and I can't believe they really are still together- because- of all, well - his escapades with other women."
"Well, she has done her share of escapades, too. It's that kind of a generation. They don't take anything seriously. Especially not love. Like Kol said they were not really exclusive."- Esther said. "
"Exactly"- Elijah remarked-"so how do you see them getting married?"
"There is a possibility- well, nothing is confirmed yet. Y/N still needs to go to the obstetrician- but she might be pregnant. And I don't want to get ahead of ourselves here, but, when she returns to New Orleans in a few days, we will know."- Esther said- "now let's eat. We can't keep Larson waiting any longer."
Very shortly, the dinner was served and the star of the evening was Elena, of course, who was now telling them about her life in London, all she did and a little bit about her eccentric benefactor Dahlia.
Even though sisters, Dahlia would not call Esther for years on end. She had not heard from her the last two years.
"She moved her atelier to the Shetland islands."- Elena informed the woman-"I plan to visit her in the spring."
Elena then continued to talk about what she was doing lately.
All evening Elijah listened to Elena speak. Quiet as he was, he was not bombarding her with questions like Kol, but nevertheless, soaked in every word she had said.
Elena was like the fresh breeze for all of them. Extraordinarily, this was the first night in a long while that Esther was sitting down for dinner with both of her sons. Kol would usually be somewhere with his friends, Elijah would either work or stay at the town house. She felt like the universe bowed down and sent her Elena, like a special gift.
At the end of the dinner, Esther extended a special invitation to Elena to attend her birthday party the next day.
"Thank you so much"- Elena said.
She bid everyone a good night and left the room. And before she went she just once glanced back at them, her eyes streaming at Elijah at the end.
That what was incrompenhensible to her. Why was she saw compelled by him. With these thoughts she trailed off to the little house not far from the Grand House where her uncle lived.
When she was a teenager, all her dreams involved around Kol - the way she would kiss him, go off to the wildest parties with him, come home in the early hours in the morning. And all these years abroad, she wondered what he was like, if he had changed at all. It proved that he hadn't much. It felt that all was even more enhanced. As always his life was exciting. But when he was talking she blocked some of it off, and found swaying her look to Elijah. She was not into men in suits, workaholics, as her uncle described the eldest Mikaelson.
So, why was he on her mind? He barely spoke two words to her, except for a few polite questions about what drew her to study industrial design. She shook her head as she now put her hair down and combed it, before getting into the shower.
In his bedroom, in the Grand house, Elijah had a view on the guest house she was staying at. After a shower, he went to the window glancing out. What was he doing there, looking out- He shook his head, and returned to his agenda for tomorrow. Even though they were hosting a huge party tomorrow night, he still needed to go to the office.
The next morning, Elena, as an early riser, had already done her yoga and had her breakfast. Her uncle was amazed how disciplined she was.
"I have been invited to the Birthday Gala tonight and I don't really have anything appropriate to wear, so I thought I would head into town. Can I get a lift?"- Elena asked.
"I would offer you my car, but it broke down. And I barely had time to look what it is. I am now Mrs Mikaelson's personal driver and she will not be going anywhere today, but I still have to stay. I'm sorry"- John explained.
"Hey, it's not a big deal. I should have rented a car. I think Kol has said that he would be going into town. I will ask him if he could take me. I don't think he would mind. I'll see you later."- Elena said taking her bag.
Before John could say anything, Elena was already out of the door walking over to the main house. As she was about to enter, Elijah appeared at the door, nearly bumping into her.
"Morning"- he said somewhat startled.
Elena slipped a good morning as well, backing up a bit, suddenly feeling a strange nervousness flushing all over her.
"Can I help you?"- he asked.
"Ahm- no. I was-"- she hated that she seemed to have lost the power of speech as if she was a teenager again, all shy and not finding the right words to express herself. She felt his eyes were piercing right through her, making her even more clumsily restless.
"Yes?"- Elijah slipped.
Elena now got herself together and said that she was hoping Kol or someone was going into town and she wondered if she could get a lift.
"I believe Kol is still in bed. This is too early for him. If you don't mind I am happy to take you as I am on my way to the office."- Elijah said moving with his hand towards his car.
Elena let a little silent sigh excepting the offer and he opened the door of his black Lincoln MKZ. She slipped in, and he closed the door. As he got in, he asked if there was a special place she wanted to be dropped off, and she muttered that she needed to get a dress for the Gala.
He knew exactly where to take her. It was something she didn't expect. But then again, he was a man that had impecable taste in clothes himself, as well as cars. She was intrigued by him. The half an hour drive to New Orleans was spent mostly in silence, till Elena broke the ice by asking about the Mexico Plantation, and she didn't even know why she had asked about it.
"It's a marvellous place. I have enjoyed living and working there."- Elijah said-"it is a completely different world out there. My great twice removed grandmother was spanish and mytwice removed great grandfather married into the family. A Mikaelson and a Fuentes. You know that the spanish once ruled Louisiana from 1762 to 1802. This is when the Plantation in Mexico came to our family's possession."
"I didn't know that"- Elena said-"you grow oranges there? That's how much I remember."
"Yes."- Elijah replied.
They had arrived and just before Elena got out, Elijah said-
"I will be returning to the Grand House at about 4 p.m. If you wish, and if you will be staying in town that long, you can come by the offices, and I can give you the lift back."
"Ah, thank you. I was kind of thinking of going to the race practice at 4. You will not go?"
"No."- Elijah said abruptly. He wished her a good day and left. She didn't know what to think by his clear cut negative response to the boat practice. Her mind trailed off to something else now. It was her day out to enjoy the French Quarter and completely indulge in all NOLA had to offer.
After acquiring the dress she wanted, she went to the bookstore and got herself a book on Mexico. She read all about Tamaulipas, the state where the family's mexican plantation was at.
Walking around the French Quarter, and taking photos, being a keen photographer, Elena arrived late to Kol's practice. But he was glad to see her. He introduced her to some of his friends, with whom she had a drink as well. It all turned soon into a small party like it has always been the case with Kol. She wouldn't have minded staying on with all of them, but since she was invited to the Gala, and Esther being so wonderful and kind, she didn't want to disrespect her host, and above all make her uncle look bad. As Kol was not ready to leave just yet and it was pushing seven, Elena got herself a taxi.
Everything on the Planantation was ready for the grand party to start in an hour. Elena rushed to get ready.
_
In the Grand House, Esther was worried about Kol not showing up. Elijah tried to get hold of Kol, who finally answered his phone and reassured his brother that he would be there in a little while. In he was there in the nick of time.
Elijah got to his room and now gave him the piece of his mind about his reckless behaviour-
"You need to grow up! Enough is enough! This is a very important day for mother and she's got only us."
"I am here, aren't I?"- Kol said getting into his tux as he got out of the shower. To change the subject he now said-"Did you see Elena?! Wow- she is a real knockout. Where were my eyes before-"
Elijah hated the way he spoke about women in that way and gave him a stern look saying-
"Do not speak about Elena in that manner- or any other woman!"
Kol now stood still for a second as he put his jacket on. He looked at Elijah saying-
"What is this? Did I just hear agitation in your voice?"
"Shut up. We have to get down. The first guest are arriving"- Elijah said-"adjust your bow tie. It's crooked."
Kol followed his brother. They were late and they had to be there with her as the whole birthday speech started, so they rushed down.
Kol's phone went and since it was Y/N, he went off answering the call. Elijah now proceeded into the garden where Esther was already in full swing mingling with all the guests. He stood still for a second admiring the view of the woman, who brought such great stir in him, something he had never thought was possible.
She was like the summers breeze that comes out of nowhere and makes all difference in a particular moment in time. He could stand there and look at her forever.
Elena turned around now seeing him slightly lost in his gaze. She smiled a little at him as came over to her.
"I hope you had a nice day?"- Elijah then said to her-
"I did"- Elena said not taking her eyes off of him.
"Good."- Elijah uttered.
Both of them stood there without saying anything further. Eyes exchanging small delightful nothings filled with gladness about being in each other's company. Maybe they would have stay like this till the end of the party, and it would have been ok, but the butler came to Elijah telling him that his mother wanted him and Elijah slipped clumsily- "duty calls."
Elena nodded a little and dreamily watched him go.
Kol now appeared from behind saying-
"Ah, good. Elijah will do the speech. I so hate these things. Hey, where did you escape?"
"I got a taxi."- Elena replied.
"You should have stayed with us. Tom did these crazy impressions of the ballroom dancing judges."
"Right"- Elena just said and taking a glass of champagne that was now passed to everyone moved forward as the butler singnalled both her and Kol to join Esther as she had asked for them.
Elijah's speech was short but heartwarming, and Kol added only a big happy birthday to his mother wishing her many happy returns.
Esther thanked both of them and then all who came to the party. At the end she gave a special thanks to Elena, introducing her to everyone as her guest of honour.
Elena looked at the woman a bit lost, not understanding where this was coming from.
"Last night was one of the most amazing nights I have had in a very long time"- Esther said to Elena-"I cannot remember when the three of us sat down together as a family. Well, ever since Klaus and Mikael-anyway, it would so wonderful if one day I might call you my daughter."
Elena thanked the woman for her kind words. Esther could see that Elena was somewhat flustered with all and now called for the music to start. She went off to some guests who had arrived late, leaving Elena with Elijah.
"I think her emotions are running high. It has been so for days"- Elijah said feeling he had to explain his mother's behaviour towards Elena.
"Don't you spend time together? I mean- at least for Christmas?"- Elena asked.
"Christmas is the worst, as it reminds her of them. The boating accident was two days after Christmas."- Elijah explained.
"Oh- I just- can't remember. No one really talked about Klaus and your dad."- Elena felt bad thinking she really put the foot in it.
To get off sad subjects, Elijah now put his hand out to her saying-
"Would you care to dance?"
Elena nodded and took his hand. hey walked to the dance floor. And like the song said-both of them felt like they were suspended in the air as they swayed to the tune. Both now not still quite sure what it was that made me feel so extraordinarily different.
Could he really be starting to feel something for this woman, so out of the blue? And she? Where was all this tingling inside of her come from as he put his hand on her back gently? He was not her type at all. She had always been with guys like Kol, reckless, daring. She couldn't remember falling for a guy like Elijah. What was happening to her?
Bitter Sweet Symphony
part 5 - diffindo
words: 1.8k
A/N: note that the story takes place before Harry came to Hogwarts. And most professors of the class mention below are unknown before his time hence why I will be using a random idol or maybe even an unknown person as the professor!
~
The fact that the students from both the 5th and 6th year had to assemble in the training grounds just as the professor for Defence Against the Dark Arts (D.A.D.A.) class walked towards them along with professor Snape didn't seem to amuse Y/N. She sat on the grass beside Sunmi as both Ravenclaw's absently stared into the direction of the two professors.
"I'm not amused by this setting." Y/N spoke as she caught the glare of the skinny blond boy in the green robes. "Plus, why the hell is Snape here?"
"That is a question I ask myself as well." Sunmi commented.
The rest of the Ravenclaw's began quietly whispering as boy in red robes walked over to the two girls and smiled down at them. He was followed by one more young boy in yellow robes. A Gryffindor and Hufflepuff was not an unusual sight to mingle with the Ravenclaw's, but both Park Sungjin and Kang Younghyun were quite the unusual appearance. These two usually hung out with only one Ravenclaw since they first entered Hogwarts.
And also, their bestest friend chicken little also known as Park Jaehyung, was standing opposite them glaring at Y/N.
"Hey girls." Sungjin addressed them with a smile. "What do you think this is all about?"
"My bet is we're going to be duelling." Sunmi said with a sigh. "By the way, why are you guys here? I thought you were friends with Jae on the other side..."
"Jae's being a meany so we decided to befriend the girl who keeps calling him out on social media." Younghyun smiled.
Y/N looked up at him with a raised eyebrow but didn't say anything. Sungjin joined them on the grass while Younghyun smirked at Jae on the other side.
"Alright listen up kids!" The professor spoke up to catch the attention of his students. "I have called together both years to have a practical class in which a few of you will demonstrate the spells we've learned throughout the past school years. Now I know that pairing a 6th and 5th year student will be difficult seeing as the older kids know more spells, but if a student wishes to duel a younger one, or vice versa, I will not oppose it and neither will professor Snape."
Jae looked straight at Y/N who was silently going through some type of journal in her lap.
"Now then, my duelling pupil Sungjin and Seung Cheol shall be the first to duel."
Sungjin went up front followed by another Gryffindor and both took their stances. They smiled at each other and went forth to take a few paces from each other and the duel began. It was harmless, with a few basic duelling spells learned from professor Flitwick as well as ones learned in D.A.D.A. through the years.
Sungjin came out victorious.
"Well done boys. Now then moving on towards the 6th years... Miss Nayeon and Miss Wheein, you're up next."
A very cheerful and bubbly Gryffindor skipped up to take Sungjin's place while and elegant looking Slytherin walked up to take Seung Cheol's. This duel was a bit more heated and the dislike between the two houses was evident.
Wheein came out as the winner in this duel.
"Exceptional curse casting Miss Wheein. Now then next will be Mister Jaehyung and-"
"Sir, I'd like to choose my own opponent." Jae spoke up and both professors raised their eyebrows.
"Yes, of course." The professor spoke up.
"Hey Wonpil's girl." Sunmi nudged Y/N when she didn't budge from her quidditch notes. "Let's see how well you do with those spells of yours."
Jae stepped up in place of Wheein as Y/N looked confused with the speech he threw at her.
"Well now Miss Jeong don't just sit around." Professor Snape snapped at her. "Get up and take Miss Im's place on the field."
Y/N gave her notebook to Sunmi as she took her wand and replaced Nayeon on the field. The Gryffindor wished her luck and Y/N only nodded, not understanding what this was all about but she sure wasn't complaining. Maybe this was the perfect time and place to shut Jae's mouth.
Both of them bowed at each other and took up their stances, Jae's being a bit more aggressive in nature while Y/N's was more cold and stoic.
"One..." The professor began his countdown. "Two..." Sunmi, Sungjin and Younghyun were not expecting this to happen and the boys were quick to inform the other two, being bombarded with Wonpil's worry. "Three-"
"Expulso!" Jae screamed and waved his wand before the countdown reached three normally.
"Protego!" Y/N reacted faster and a transparent shield of soft blue hues spread before her deflecting the explosion and spreading a screen of smoke on the field. She was quick to counter attack while Jae couldn't see her movements in the smoke. "Everte Statum!"
Jae was hit by the spell and sent spinning in the air as he landed a few feet in the distance. He was angry now as his glasses fell next to him.
"Flipendo!" Jae's spell knocked down Y/N and she groaned at the impact it had on her body. "Incendio!"
A gush of fire rushed towards Y/N and all the students went quiet with horror as it rapidly approached the knocked down girl.
"Aguamenti!" She countered with a water jet and the fire seemed ti burst into smoke as her breathing became shallow and raged from the scare of being burned alive.
"You're good Y/N, well I'd say decent for a mudblood." Jae spoke as he walked up to her.
"Oh, so now we're calling each other names?" Y/N stood up, clearly angry at his words. "So what if I'm a child of a human and a wizard I can't be good at casting spells or quidditch? Wow Jae, never knew that you'd be calling me names because you suck at spell casting."
"Oh keep you mouth shut you dirty blooded bird! You're no better than a pureblood just because you're smart so stop acting all high and mighty. You should just keep that beak quiet and mingle with less wizards so you don't spread the disease among us." Jae was enraged and both Sungjin and Younghyun didn't understand how he could be so insulting.
They've never heard or seen this side of the young blond.
"Legilimens." Jae cast the mindreading charm on her, trying to mess with her emotions.
"Protego Horribilis." Y/N whispered out and the spell bounced off the transparent shield which enveloped her.
"A protection charm again, really? Is this all you know? You're a disgrace even to mudbloods." Jae mocked her and tried both flipendo and expeliarmus on the girl but without any results. "This is a damn duel Y/N not a fucking pitty party where you hide behind a shield of magic. Fight me like you mean it!"
"Okay, if that's what you really want." She gripped her wand tightly turning her knuckles white with anger. As she looked up at him her dark eyes seemed to turn black with sheer animosity as the protective shield suddenly disappeared around her.
"Alarte Ascendare." Jae was shot up into the air and screamed out as his body began falling down quickly approaching the hard ground. "Diffindo."
Jae screamed out as a burst of cuts appeared on his body bleeding heavily as he kept on falling down. It was followed by a loud noise of breaking bones and tearing of the muscles as suddenly both professor Snape and the professor of D.A.D.A. stepped in to stop the duel.
"Descendo!" The professor yelled as Snape quickly caught an unconscious Jae. "Miss Jeong Y/N what has gotten into you?! You could have killed Mister Park with both spells!"
"Vulnera Sanentur." Snape said as he healed the cuts and gashes on Jae's body. "I'm taking Mister Park to the hospital wing. Miss Jeong, I will make sure professor Flitwick hears about this."
Both professor left as they dismissed the class. All of the students stood staring at Y/N who was still angrily clutching her wand and biting her lip to the point it bled.
"Alright!" Sunmi yelled out. "Get lost you dweebs, nothing to see here!"
The students suddenly scurried off into all directions as Sunmi walked up to her friend and patted her on the shoulder.
"Come on Y/N, let's get some nice relaxing tea and Momo to cheer you up shall we?" She began pushing the girl in the direction of the castle, but stopped to look back at the two dumbfounded boys. "I'd advise you to check on Jae later on. Those were some dangerous spells casted on him."
And with that they left.
~
Later that evening Sunmi, Momo and Y/N were sitting in the Astronomy tower, drinking tea and eating some of Momo's home baked peach muffins. The two girls were animatedly chatting with each other as Y/N kept staring out the tower into the cold starless night.
It wasn't her fault her parents fell in love. Before today she didn't really care for the fact her father was a wizard and her mother was a muggle. They loved each other, they loved her, her family was quite accepting of the wizarding world even though her older brother was a muggle and stayed a muggle. Why was it so wrong to be a half-blood?
Her thoughts were cut short when an owl landed on the open window and handed her a letter.
"What is it?" Momo asked.
"A howler..." Y/N answered.
"From professor Flitwick?" Sunmi asked.
"No... from my father..." She sighed and opened it, ready for what was to come.
"JEONG ROSEMARY Y/N! WHAT IS THE MEANING OF TODAY'S DUEL WITH THE SLYTHERIN BOY? YOUR MOTHER AND I HAVE TAUGHT YOU BETTER THAN TO BLINDLY CAST DANGEROUS SPELLS ON YOUNG WIZARDS IN YOUR STATE OF ANGER! I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOU AND YOUR ACTIONS TODAY! NEXT HOLIDAY YOU COME HOME YOU WILL GET AN EARFULL FROM ME YOUNG LADY! PROFESSOR FLITWICK PERSONALLY SENT AN OWL TO ADRESS YOUR BEHAVIOUR TODAY AND IT ALMOST MADE YOUR MOTHER CRY! LEARN HOW TO BEHAVE YOURSELF AND FOCUS ON YOUR STUDIES MORE!" There was a short pause as the girls stared wide eyed at the letter. "I know the boy must've said some very insulting things to you my little rose but it still doesn't justify this type of behaviour. I can only hope you will learn from this experience and tred your battles carefully. Professor Flitwick said he'd talk to you first thing tomorrow morning, so I expect you to accept your punishment with dignity. I did not teach you those spells for your anger but for you to defend yourself if need be. Be sure to visit your mother and I on your next holiday, and write a letter or two for your older brother so he knows your alive at least. Love dad."
Y/N sighed as the letter tore itself up and fell into the lap...
'Well done Y/N, now all you gotta do is go and talk to your brother who hates you because of your father. Easy-peasy.'
