I try to keep crowdfunding off my page, especially when it has zilch to do with epilepsy. See that girl with the butterfly in her hair? Her name was Emily Silverman. We called her Em. She died in a car accident 15 years ago. She was one of the brightest souls I’ve ever known. You know those people who you’re like, damn, I’m so lucky to have known them even for the short time I did. Such a generous spirit - she gave and gave for her friends. I started freshman year at a new high school, knowing no one, and even though she was two years ahead of me, she saw me by myself a lot and started talking to me. One time I was crying about something dumb like boys and she looked at me with those eyes and said, “you have your whole life ahead of you.” I still may, but she didn’t get the chance.

Em loved to dance, and it was always her dream to open a dance studio. For the past 15 years, her mother Vicki has been running a charity called Em’s Spotlight, which gives dance lessons to underprivileged youth in Kansas City’s urban core. I volunteered there for a while and managed to roll it into a paying gig, but now I’m donating my checks straight back to Em’s (Vicki insists on paying me), but 10 hours a week at 14 bucks an hour isn’t going to get us the $25,000 we need.
Please, please try to find it in your hearts to donate $10. Some of you already see where this is headed. Think of us as George Washington. We’re in dire need of assistance and we need a right-hand man. And Washington’s right-hand man is on the $10 bill.

And then share! Share share share. Share on here, Twitter, Instragram, whatever. Even if you can’t donate, you might get someone else to.
