So my cat Vega has always deeply deeply hated having his claws trimmed, even as a kitten when he was much more tractable than he is now.
My cat Vega also has a claw deformity that makes it an absolute necessity that his claws be trimmed regularly.
Well, he has been fighting us with a savagery that is unusual even for him. So it's taking us several weeks to be able to hold him for long enough to trim his claws. (Did I mention he also hates to be picked up? I have no idea where any of this came from because I did everything you're supposed to do when he's a kitten to train good adult behaviors...)
And it turns out he had a claw that had ingrown and this is why he didn't want us to touch anything.
We got it taken care of and we will watch the wound to be sure it doesn't get infected. And I have dozens of claw wounds all up and down my arms from his back claws to prove it.
#what a night#I honestly hate having to do this to him#because it upsets him so much#and I am genuinely worried he is going to get hurt at some point with all his flailing around#going to talk to the vet about it at his next appointment#I am not pro declawing by any stretch of the imagination but there is a part of me that wonders if it would improve his quality of life#to have the two deformed claws removed because they give him such trouble even beyond the simple issue of trimming his claws#he can't retract them so it causes issues for him when he walks and when he plays and in a lot of other situations#and clearly it's also creating discomfort because he doesn't want anyone going near them ever#this was an exceptionally bad experience but even under normal circumstances he doesn't want them touched#anyway#It's been a night lol
