Introducing: Ghost
If he sounds familiar, that's because I've actually used AI in the past to showcase what he might have looked like when he was alive, since there are only a few photos of white coyotes and most of them are gory hunting pics and I wanted to give him a little dignity.
Ghost's coloration is a bit darker in these photos than in person, but they did capture his markings pretty well. He was sold to me for $50 as part of a group of red phase coyotes, and I don't think the seller realized just how rare this coloration actually is. Luckily I saw the listing right after it was posted and snagged this beauty before anyone else could.
I originally did not plan on naming him Ghost; at the time, I had a running theme with my coyotes of naming them in Drow. Yinn = tooth/fang, for example. I had a few different ideas for him, but for some reason I kept accidentally calling him 'Ghost.' And this wasn't a GoT thing, for the record: I've never been a fan and hadn't watched the show or read the books.
For about a year this went on, and eventually I realized he just wasn't going to take any of the names I had in mind for him, so I settled on 'Ghost.'
Like Yinn, I suspect there's some dog in Ghost's lineage. I remember hearing that there was a small population of them in Canada that were the result of a Golden Retriever getting loose and mating with them, so maybe he's one of their descendants? I've seen photos of one other live white/gold coyote in the USA that were taken well after I got him, so I know there's at least one running around out there.
It's not as easy to see as with Yinn, but he actually has some similar markings, including a white-tipped tail!
He's one among my favorite animals in my collection and even has his own spot in my room on my tree stump ottoman. I like to have him 'resting' somewhere cozy. I've done some reconstructive work on his face to try to smooth the muzzle out a bit more, too.
#cw: taxidermy#coyote pelt#I am a tad bitter about how poorly preserved he was tbh#on the one hand I wouldn't have gotten him so cheap if he'd been more intact#on the other hand his ears are just thin little strips because they were cut away#I don't get why they do that to coyotes in particular 'cause I also have a really nice huge deep red coyote who's got the same thing going#and it makes me sad because I love big oversized goofy looking coyote ears#I plan on someday trying to fix their ears up and recreate them#his must've been extra big and silly looking because I can see the points when I pull his little ear strips out
