In denial that col has come to an end.. A long journey indeed for me as before col aired I was worried that the story would immediately assumed Vee as Khun Vad reincarnate and San would come to fall in love with Vee by connecting certain quirks/habits/behaviours to his previous lover. This would mean that Vee is merely a replacement of Khun Vad. I have seen some old bls do this and I didn’t like it. Of course, if the “replacement” plot is just the icing on the cake and there will be other developments I can accept that but it’s long winded. Col didn’t go in that direction. We saw San fell in love with who Vee is - his good and bad like San said.
Personal thoughts ramblings about the ending again
(Though I felt that at the end of episode 7, San’s love seem to be fuelled by his personal assumption that Vee must be Khun Vad reincarnate as he told Tao to cease the search for Khun Vad reincarnate as he now believes it is Vee. But this is not to say that San didn’t love Vee for Vee, it’s more like San believes that Vee must be the Khun Vad reincarnate because he fell in love with him - destiny led Vee to him/destiny led him to Vee, so Vee must be Khun Vad reincarnate. Interestingly, at the beginning of episode 7, San was feeling bad that he “betrayed” Khun Vad by falling in love with Vee. Hence, I contend that San didn’t actually think that Vee is Khun Vad reincarnate but rolled with the idea that Vee can be since there is no contention. I think this helped to keep the peace in his heart (that he did not betray Khun Vad). Hence the appearance of Khun Vad lookalike at the end was a big blow to him (and to us too lol). Moving to episode 8, when the stone reacted to both Vee and Khun Vad lookalike, San was flabbergasted like most of us were. But what’s interesting is that later we know that San told Khun Vad lookalike that he cannot love her because he loves Vee now and Khun Vad lookalike demanded for the stone and he gave it to her because he felt that he owed it to her. Logically speaking, both Vee and Khun Vad lookalike are potential candidates of the reincarnate but in the whole episode we see San feeling guilty towards Khun Vad lookalike from start to end. Even before Tao made the statement that Khun Vad lookalike has a higher chance of being the reincarnate due to appearance and family background. This really makes me think that San never thought of Vee as Khun Vad reincarnate. I guess not even the fact that when he held Vee in episode 4, his nightly episode was relieved and he slept the best he ever had in the last 100 years lol.)
Col is very interesting in this manner as the idea of who is the reincarnate forms the backbone of the plot and then we have love as the crux of the story - which makes sense as this is a bl. The mystery behind who is the reincarnate challenges our main characters to see beyond appearances and when our main characters manage to do it, in this case - San, it makes the love between San and Vee all the more authentic and beautiful. It moves from the emotional longing and waiting of my past lover for 100 years to the reincarnate no longer matters, all I know is that I choose you (San chooses Vee). Both are romantic in their own ways but the latter is more bold, less passive and in line with the idea of writing our destiny (more inclined to be well received in this time).
Therefore, when the director/col writers leave the identity of the reincarnate open for interpretation and hints that it is not that important, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth? San waited 100 years for his past lover and Vee was tormented by this “Vee VS Khun Vad lookalike” fiasco. Vee was dragged into San’s life because of they thought Vee is Khun Vad and can bring San luck. Simply reducing the identity of the reincarnate to a plot device when everything is in placed is just lacking accountability.
This is giving action packed sequences and great story going but the author ends it with “it was all just a dream” and in elementary school over here, we were all marked down for it due to the anti-climactic feeling it gives.
#century of love#as u can see I am whining again#I am a col fan pls believe me#just tell me Vee is Khun Vad#I am salty about the ending#this started as a piece to ramble about how I have nothing to watch after col but atlas we have something else here#the starting might throw u off
