I’m interested to hear how people play Henry in regards to sex and romance. Since there’s so much choice in this, and everyone can shape their Henry a bit differently.

Of course in kcd1 he starts off with Bianca, though I always interpreted that as early young flirtations that didn’t have time to develop into anything deeper. But if Skalitz hadn’t happened like it did, and Henry listened to his Pa, then I could see them staying together as a small town romance, settling down etc but Henry would always be restless.

In the first game, I always played Henry as someone who kind of fell into romantic entanglements without really putting much thought into it. With Lady Stephanie he was flustered by receiving such attention from a noblewoman, that he was just kind of swept away in it, he didn’t think much about it. Same with any other short term sexual encounters in kcd1.

Theresa is different, in that it was sweet and fun and they’re friends in addition to it all. After they sleep together Henry can bring up marriage immediately, which she kind of shoots down a bit. I think they were close, but the distance from Henry’s occupation frays their relationship, while it never had time to develop into something as strong as he eventually has with Hans, it was sweet and enjoyable and was built from a strong foundation. For my Henry at least, it just doesn’t stand the time and distance and everything that Henry goes through when he leaves Rattay. Even in the first game, he’s away more and more.

When it comes to kcd2, I tried to play it as Henry is no longer stumbling into sex but he doesn’t really know why. He slept with the girl at the wedding, all the bitter feelings resurfacing from his interactions with Hans just beforehand, and the wedding sex was bad (she says so herself ahaha). Then after that, he’s not really feeling the interest that he used to, maybe he attributes it to the stress of the situation he’s in, but his heart is no longer in it.

I don’t think my Henry realises the way he feels towards Hans falls under the romantic and sexual attraction umbrella until much later on, but it makes something click inside his head when he does. Maybe this happens when Hans kisses him. But he’s suddenly understanding why he’s been less interested in casual sex, and why the attention of pretty women doesn’t quite feel the same as it used to. Because so much of his world already revolves around Hans, it’s difficult to see the depths and complexities of those feelings until they’re spelled out clearly in front of him.

Interested to hear how other people play it though, because dedicated to Hans Henry is also great, as is a Henry who sleeps with everyone he can lmao
