Savannah Squad Presentation Night Headcanons/Drabble [2/3]
it has been forever :'D (everyone say thank you to @moonbiine)
ANYWAYS, here's part 2 :}
Part 1: Taylor & Logan Part 2: Ben & Tyler Part 3: Aiden & Ashlyn [WIP]
Logan's POV
Two hours and twenty-eight minutes. It has been two hours and twenty-eight minutes and we've been stuck at 76% complete for forty minutes. Whoever made Windows deserves to burn and I stand by that, cause what do you mean that they can push an update and force restart my laptop.
"Logan when was the last time you updated this?" "Logan, why are there fifteen updates that need to be downloaded?" "Bro, when was the last time you actually shut down your laptop?" ... "I've been busy, okay--"
So it might be my fault. Partially. I will admit that much, but the laptop's never given me a problem before and it was running fine. It's just old, and has a few odd... kinks? I mean, the left half of the mousepad is jammed to the point where it can't click, and, sure, the screen does go black every now and again, but just hit it a few times it works! It's character, charm even (and I can't be bothered to fix it...)!
It was, honest to God, easier for Aiden to run back to his place and grab his laptop.
"So we agree that Logan is off electronic duty right?" Taylor had asked as Ben was setting up the other computer to the television screen with Aiden helping. It was a unanimous decision. Ben and Aiden are the new tech guys.
"Yeah, that's probably for the better," I had conceded.
Ben Clarke
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ben goes next because he saved the groups sanity by suggesting that Aiden just gets his laptop. Everyone, thank Ben for the night not failing.
To address the obvious, Ben has a text to speech app on his phone, which is connected to a speaker, that he uses to present. I will say that there is a sort of humor in this for two reasons. One, the voice can either be monotoned like a typical text-to-speech program with funny pronunciation errors, or two, it will sound like one of those videos on tiktok where an AI is reading a tumblr post about SuperBats or something and gets progressively more expressive as time goes on. Personally, I want to hear exasperated robot Ben voice explaining to Aiden why "Life is a Highway" on repeat can and will be considered a torture method.
Ben's music taste is GODLY. And he's more of a eclectic listener too so he has experience with a good amount of genres. This man does not bash other genres of music that he doesn't care for, he thinks its rude to the person he's talking to and to the artist.
Aiden is the exception to this rule^^
DESPISES having to subscribe to music platforms. What do you mean that you can't listen to a song on repeat without paying, what do you mean that you will interrupt his carefully crafted playlist with a recommended song that does not fit the vibe. This end up derailing his presentation couple times.
He has a set criteria that he judges on: length, vibes, transitions, and replayability. Good playlists should at minimum be an hour, have similar vibes/sound while still being unique, the transitions between songs shouldn't be jarring, and the playlist shouldn't be painful to listen to after a month.
Taylor and Ashlyn helped him judge everyone's playlists by acting as secondary perspectives. Taylor is more open to everyone's music tastes while Ashlyn scrutinizes them more. They pretty much just took a playlist that everyone listens to regularly, one that they made but listen to it every so often, and their liked songs.
I would also like everyone to remember that the series is set in 2016... they would have songs mostly from the 2000s-2010s with the exceptions of some 90s and 80s songs. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just saying that I looked up 2010s hit songs and I'm filled with nostalgia.
Overall, Ben's criticisms and recommendations are genuinely thoughtful. Especially the recommendations. For each person, after critiquing their playlists, Ben made a slide of genres and artists that each person should check out to expand their tastes.
(I'll probably make a bit about what songs were on their playlist, idk tho)
Group Reaction (how they ranked in comparison to each other)
Personally, Tyler and Logan getting the best ratings because their playlists are very consistent in their vibes and are replayable. I also think that Ben's music taste fits the most with these two for some reason, so they got the most song recs out of everyone.
Ashlyn is third in the ranking. She has one or two that she listens to occasionally, and they're pretty short. They are absolute polar opposites though. One of the playlists is rock, since she canonically likes Paramore (if you don't, get well soon), and the other is classical music for her ballet performances.
Taylor is next. Her playlist isn't bad, its just... a bit everywhere. Like it starts pretty good, but you can tell that somewhere along the lines of creating this playlist she just added songs that she remembered that she likes. It mostly fits the same genre. Ben makes her a more organized playlist after the presentation.
Aiden is dead last. It's not because his music taste is shit. Aiden actually has a pretty good music taste. No. Its because he only listens to his liked songs on repeat like a monster. It is musical whiplash. You go from a movie theme song, to crying, to listening to white girl club music, to rock, to crying again, and then for some reason the Home Depot jingle???? The only playlists that he makes are for jokes really. Do you know the John Mulaney bit where he plays "What's New Pussycat?" 27 times. Yeah, that's Aiden.
Tyler Hernandez
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tyler's next, and, I'm letting you know now that he sprayed the fuck out of Aiden for interrupting. Yeah, Ash pulled them a part.
Motherfucker is so pleased with himself, like its honestly so funny. Aiden had him by the collar and Tyler was just fucking smiling. Taylor does throw her slipper at him for being rude, but he could honestly care less.
The slideshow itself is the most soulless thing ever made, man used the Blank Google Slides template and called it a day. Like one stock image on each slide, and its so pixelated. He probably did it like an hour ago. That's why his presentation is funny because he's just jabbing at Aiden over and over with a basic slideshow that you'd see someone pull out in a Spanish 1-2 class.
You know what? He probably had another presentation about what piercing he think would suit the group best, and just did this one out of spite cause Aiden was being loud. I take back my previous statement about him doing it an hour before getting to Logan's place, he did this on his PHONE WHEN THE LAPTOP WAS UPDATING!!!! Like Logan was taking a walk, Ben was trying to fix the computer, the girls went to make sandwiches, Aiden was running errands, and Tyler made this in an hour.
His presentation is based off a tier system where it gets more effective with each method. Methods 1-3 are pretty basic where its just stuff like duct taping his mouth shut, 4 and onwards just gets funny
I'll be completely honest, each way he put is wild, and it gets progressively more deranged as the presentation goes on. These one's my favorite
"Number 9: Dying You know, I thought this would be the best way, but the bastard got crushed by a ceiling and walked it off. I want you to try and convince me that Aiden wouldn't crawl out of hell just to ruin my day. " "Number 10: Put him in a room alone with Ashlyn's mom and dad *insert a picture of Aiden sitting not so comfortably in between Ashlyn's parents* I don't even think I need to say anything else, I mean, I will, but like... look at him"
This is honestly the shortest presentation of the night but so far it's the most chaotic (he will quickly lose this title).
Tyler went through two spray bottles, mainly for Aiden, but he did spray Taylor once or twice. She threw a shoe at him. It's only fair.
Groups Reaction
Aiden is standing to the side with a towel around himself because Logan said his grandparents would kill them for ruining their couch. He's not exactly pissed but he is kind of sulking. Honestly this just makes his presentation so much better for him.
You know how Tyler asked for suggestions in the beginning, Ben and Ashlyn give him genuine ideas. Mainly Ben, just out of good humor you know. And Tyler's taking notes.
Taylor is giggling, but she does feel a bit bad for Aiden. At some point she gives him a consolation sandwich to raise his spirits.
Logan, however, doesn't and he's just quietly enjoying the scene that's unfolding around him.
The end of these two presentations are by far more chaotic than the first two, and it feels like its only going to get worse from here(/pos). Because right now Aiden is fighting with Tyler, getting him soaked too, Taylor is filming them while Logan provides commentary, and Ashlyn is standing with Ben setting up the next powerpoint.
While it was initially decided that Aiden would go last, Ashlyn suggested that she and him switch. Mainly so that he can drip dry while presenting, and sit down when he's done.
Aiden is following a presentation that was just jabbing at him, how do you think his is going to end up now?

I drew a postcard for my show :) the concert was really amazing I had so much fun. Genuinely one of the best nights of my life.
Idk if people want to avoid spoilers so I’ll put my rants below.
It was so AWESMOEE I have so many thoughts on each and every songgg that was my first concert experience EVER and ohh man it was spectacular
Heathens was SO GOOD LIVE. Was genuinely my favorite part of the show and HEATHENS ISNT EVEN MY FAVORITE!!! like I don’t dislike any of their songs but I have a very long list of favorites and heathens is not in it. However that being said it was spectacular. I had the most fun during that song I think that song was actually made to be played live and not for suicide squad
The transition from heathens to next semester is so so good. I didn’t notice the similarities in those songs until they were back to back. I do really wish they had played all of next semester instead of like. Half the song but it’s okay the rest of the night made up for it
THEY PLAYED GUNS FOR HANDSSS THAT SKNG MEANS SO MUCH TO MEEEE AAAAAAA I almost started crying when I heard the tune it was so so good. That song genuinely like. Made me realize so many things about myself. I’m so glad I got to hear it live
THE TRANSITION. BETWEEN NATN AND HEAVYDIRTYSOUL. NOT EVEN INJECTING IT INTO MY BLOODSTREAM WOULD BE ENOUGH. THAT WAS SO GOOD. GHHSBFBJGKKC i got a recording im so happy
EVERYONE WAS SO NICE DURING TREES!! I saw so many clips from LA and it looked like hell for those two but everyone was really respectful here and Tyler even started picking people around the circle to stand closest to the islands and I thought that was so sweet
FOREST APPEARANCE??? IN 2024?????? I DIDNT THINK THEYD EVER ACKNOWLEDGE RAB AGAIN BUT THEY PLAYED FOREST!!! I’m glad forest has a lot of nostalgia for me
The thing with the lights in mulberry street was so cool. Honestly the whole show was so interactive he kept calling to specific parts of the stadium and had certain people doing certain things I loved it. Tyler really made sure that even the people wayyyy in the back were having fun and that the people in the pit were getting their moneys worth
After the proctologist line Tyler yelled GROSS!!!! Really loudly and I thought that was funny. He then said “you guys are wayy cooler than me. The only difference is I’m on a stage and you’re not you guys are better than me. Anyway we’re taking a photo losers.” I love him
JOSH SANG. LIKE SO MUCH. HE WAS SINGING DURING STRESSED OUT AND HE SANG BANDITO WHILE TYLER SANG PALADIN STRAIT. HES ACTUALLY SO GOOD AT SINGJNG TYLER SHOULD MAKE HIM SING MORE IN THEIR SONGS.
Right before the show started Josh said into the mic WHATS YOUR ETA? TWO MINUTES! And that was really cute
THE CRAVING BACK TO BACK WITH TEAR IN MY HEART I WAS GOING TO CRRYYYYYY AND SCREEAAMAMMMM AAAAA I LOVE THOSE TWO THEYRE SO CUTEEEEEEEBVBB
OVERCOMPENSATE LIVE. HFJSJSJJDK AKAKGKFKDKEJRJFJFJFJFJFJ THAT WAS SO GOODDD. I saw some clips from other shows where he jumped off his piano and caught the microphone mid air and while he didn’t do that here he def made up for it bc that performance was AMAZINGK.
I think he might’ve been feeling a little unwell or smth because he was definitely not as acrobatic as in clips from other nights BUT I DIDNT MIND! HE STILL DID AMAZING ANYWAY and honestly I could NOT be performing like that if I was sick so I think it’s more impressive if he’s actually not doing good. He’s actually insane
HIS GLOWING MICROPHONEEEE ITS SO SILLYYYY
HIS DISAPPEARING TRICK IN CAR RADIO WAS SO COOL. HE WAS KIND OF CLOSE TO WHERE I WAS SITTING AND. HNGNKSKSKF
During vignette he did grab the keyboard and play it on the floor again I’m like 90% certain he knows the fandom thinks he’s a catboy and plays into it. Bc sir. You are NOT beating the cat allegations. Get off the floor and play your keyboard standing up like a REAL MAN /silly I loved that part actually
I actually started crying when he played addict with a pen. It was so good. That song means so much to me.
Tumblr media
I got a really good picture during stressed out which speaking of! THE SKELETON HORSE CAROUSEL?????? THAT WAS SO COOL IT WAS LIKE OUT OF A MAGNUS ARCHIVES STATEMENT WHAT DOES IT MEANN ITS SO COOOLLLLLLLLL
I have not put enough Josh Dun appreciation in this post and for that I am truly sorry Josh Dun you were amazing the whole night you were so energetic your backflip was the best part of the night you were awesome
I think I’ve said it before but everyone screaming “our brains are sick but that’s okay” was so surreal. Like wow I’m sitting in a stadium FULL of people and every single one of them treasures this band just as much as I do. Idk man there’s something so amazing about that. It really felt so amazing. I’ve never before felt like I was the same as a whole crowd of people. We’re all going through our own things but we’re all still here. We’re still alive and we’re still fighting. And tonight we’re fighting together. I loved it
Midwest indigo <3 that song was MADE to be played live I got chills it was so good
This post is getting kind of long and I’m tired so I’m ending it with this picture of Clancy with the glowing microphone I drew :) as a first time concert experience the Clancy world tour was life changing and I am never going to be the same person I was before the concert

today in "Things That Made Me Laugh So Much I Needed My Inhaler"
So for ADHD-related reasons, I listen to music A Lot throughout the day, and sometimes I get in a mood and I want something that has a Certain Vibe but it's not exactly any of my existing playlists, so I'll go on spotify and search for a ship name in the playlist search and see what people have put together.
The other day I did this for "bagginshield" (aka Bilbo Baggins/Thorin fic LOOK I KNOW WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE IN THE CARTOON BUT MOVIE THORIN IS A STONE HOTTIE OKAY DON'T JUDGE ME).
I was listening to this playlist, and it was very much A Vibe, you know, like there was a whole Hozier/Mitski/indie-folk/Vaguely-Celtic Mood going on, lots of minor keys and string arrangements and plaintive melodies about blood on the fresh-fallen snow and following your lover even unto death and the like, and that one Phoebe Bridger cover of the song about the gold mine changing someone that I THINK is actually about somebody's dad but the lyrics just work too well for That One Incident With The Choking so everyone still uses it, so far so good. I'm vibing. And then from out of nowhere I hear something that sounds like... a warped vinyl record playing some kind of out of tune calliope over tuba blorps... and I was like... no. Surely not. Surely this isn't...
Friends, it was. In the Tragic Doomed Love Playlist, about 2/3 of the way through, sandwiched between two plaintive Tragic Doomed Love Ballads like an unexpected clown nose in a slice of cherry pie, was Leonard Nimoy's 1968 novelty song "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins."
I do not judge anyone for enjoying this song. But I cannot help but wonder whether its inclusion was a cheeky, deliberate move on the part of the playlist maker, or if they had included it based on the name alone, being unfamiliar with the song. And if it was the latter, I could not help imagining the absolute vibe-obliterating moment when the transition occurred.
Anyway I laughed so hard I gave myself an asthma and had to take my inhaler but it was WORTH IT.
For reference, if anyone is unfamiliar, the song in question:

For your wip game, I'd love to hear more about "A footnote will do" 👀👀👀
This is a great reminder that I need to change the title because it's taking a different path from Conan's song (where I got the title from)
*note that this is set back in the 1800's approximately
"Uhm, excuse me?" A man approached him, scaring him and bringing Lando back to the real world. Only those two words were enough for him to recognise a foreign accent and when he faced the owner of the voice, he only could think about how much he wanted to paint him and his beautiful features. "Are you the painter of these?"
That definitely made Lando flinch, making him remember where he was. Still, he nodded with the nicest smile he could give the man. Needless to say it wasn't too good.
"Oh, I wanted to ask you about some details of them. The colors are magnificent and the transition between them in areas like the sky or the grass in those backgrounds you have done are precious, what did you use? What techniques did you choose to do this?"
Lando could only blink at the man in surprise by the question before answering it.
"Uh, yes, you see, these were made with oil paintings and when they dry you can paint on them, right? If you put only a few drops of extra oil on the paint you can make it less dense in a way, making it easier to paint more layers and make the colors change differently than if you mixed the pigments and painted directly."
"I see... And what about these other parts? These don't look similar at all and..."
At first, Lando tried to keep his explanations short and simple, not sure that if he went on and on with them the man would be able to understand or not. After the second question though, it was clear to him that this man understood perfectly every word he said and knew what he was talking about. Both held a very interesting conversation for what felt like a few minutes to Lando but was actually close to an hour. It was loud enough to gather around them a group of people who listened attentively without making enough sound to startle both of them. It wasn't until the other man checked the time that they didn't stop talking, only doing it by his obligations and not voluntarily.
"Great heavens, look at the time!" He started. "I need to run some errands but I would really love to continue our conversation. Until when will you be here?"
"I'll be here until the place closes. I won't be going anywhere without them." He answered, signaling to his paintings.
"Great! I'll be back with some people in a few hours then. Thank you for this conversation..." He extended his hand and Lando grabbed and shook it firmly.
"Lando. My name is Lando Norris."
"Carlos Sainz. It's been a pleasure, Mr. Norris."
When Carlos left and he turned around to get some water, he finally saw most of the viewers they'd gathered around his paintings, and between them, George and Alex were looking at him smiling, with an expression on their faces he didn't get and didn't want to do. He felt his cheeks get warmer while he retired for a bit.
Carlos did keep his promise and came back with two older people that looked a lot like him.
"Mr. Norris, these are my parents, Carlos and Reyes."
"Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Norris. Our son has told us very good things about your work." Carlos –the father– told Lando while shaking his hand.
"Oh no, just Lando." He started when it was the turn to shake Carlos' mother's hand. "Mr. Norris, that's my father." He added with a small smile. Something in the face of the elder duo changed in a positive way, which scared Lando more.
"I wanted to talk with you, Lando. Why don't we go while my parents admire your work?"
Lando hesitated. "Wouldn't they want me to stay in case they want to ask questions?"
"Oh, don't worry," Carlos moved to his side and linked his arm with Lando's "they'll be okay without us for some minutes."
And just like that, Carlos and Lando start walking around between all the paintings other men and women have brought here and all the people who have come visit the expositions –the number of whose has significantly lowered as the day advanced– in silence. It was creeping him up. They pass in front of Alex and George in silence. Even when Lando throws them a strangled look, they just look at him slightly amused and curiously. They walked a few more steps when Lando finally broke the silence between them. "So..."
"We recently moved here. Well, I recently moved here, my parents are just here for the spring and summer, to help me. I think the locals call our grounds the North Estate?" Oh, so they are the Spanish dukes his father talked about "Anyways, I don't think that's important. I liked your work a lot and I would like to have them in my palace, as well as ask for some commissions, of course if that's alright for you?" He finished and turned his head to look at Lando, never stopping.
Lando didn't know how to answer that. For starters, he didn't know how he was feeling about the offer. He knew a few things. One, he never thought he was going to end up like this because of a silly game. Two, he never thought about what he would do with his paintings –and that's why they were all kept in Alex's storage room– and selling them had not even crossed his mind. Three, why was this man suddenly interested in him? He was maybe silent for too much time because before he knew how to answer that proposition, Carlos stopped, released his grip in his arm and talked again.
"You don't have to accept it if you don't want to, I don't want to pressure you into doing something you are not comfortable doing and I would understand it."
"Oh, no, it's not that. I just... I just never thought about that possibility." Lando spoke softly.
"Oh..." Carlos lowered his volume too, speaking as softly as Lando. "Do you want me to explain more about what I was thinking about?"
"Yes, that would be nice."
They started walking again side by side, this time without their arms linked, and even if Lando preferred it that way, something inside him felt weird about it. Not wanting to think about it, Lando focused on Carlos' explanation and how he seemed to communicate better with his hands or his whole body. By the time they had arrived again to Lando's area, he was smiling softly about how louder Carlos had gotten. He was most surely talking louder than it was socially acceptable but Lando couldn't bring himself to stop him.
"So, what do you think?" They had stopped in front of Lando's painting that had started their first conversation.
"I like the idea, yes."
"Yes? We have a deal then?"
"We have a deal."
Both smiling, grabbed each other's hand and shook it.

I have many thoughts about specific songs that I wanted to share if ur interested it’s here :3
So these are some ideas I’ve had for maybe CMVs, or certain audios I want to film to when I complete my Icarus cosplay. (Most of these will be Icarus probably)
I’ll start with specific CMV scenes I had in mind for ones I may storyboard around,
Song - Disembodied mind by sparkbird.
So I have thoughts about this song, many of them, but I have one specific part in the song I think about as the Icarus ascention and what comes after. I feel like the majority of the song is Icarus in various points of fable, but whenever I hear it switch to the music before saying eyes shut tight” is Icarus’s ascention. They’re in the worldport in the next verse, and it’s them switching things back to what they had been before, trying to get a hold on being quixis.
When it goes back to the vibe change of the next “Say goodbye to the stranger on the other side” they were able to fix it, all the sheets are back to normal and the world of fable is fixed. Then when it goes back to the “I am in trouble with myself again. I am in trouble trouble trouble trouble.”
It’s Ven guys. Ven gets there. The last “I am in trouble” being them making eye contact with Icarixus.
Song - Murders from Miracle Musical
Now I’m actually working on finishing the full storyboard for a CMV idea with this song. Because I think about corruption too much to not. So I’ll share a very specific idea I had that sparked the idea of making a full CMV!
These are directly from some of my notes -
“Finally the night and day remembered how they came to be-“
Starts as Sherb being nice and letting Haley out, just following and observing. When the music gets more intense sherb starts actually pursuing her/chasing her.
- Softer music is Haley running and then the “Ba da da da da da da” sharper notes in between that would go to corrupt sherb chasing after her. Good sound for one shot of sherb taking off to the end islands. One of the last of the sharper notes is the arrow. Then the transition to the soft piano is Haley’s death.
——
All for nothing at all would make sense for them with their whole spiel to enderian “is this what you wanted!?”
——
Back to music is when they are by the grave with Rae, uncorrupted for just a moment.
“I was in the Forrest looking to see the trees but none were there…”
——
I did also write that whenever “shadow with nobody there” was said it was Enderian.
Song - Call them Brothers by Regina Spektor
“A shot rings out, nobody wants it”
(On nobody wants it it shows Haley’s death and Momboo)
“Nobody wants it to stop”
(On stop it flickers between sherb “I don’t need her down there I need her dead” and the hysterical laughter on the island that may end in tears)
I also have thoughts about this song, did you know.
I do also want to record something to Icarus by Luvbug
Tiktok audios :0
I’m not going to list a lot because I definitely have 273 audios favorites specifically to use for them so-
1 - I really enjoy that Isle of Dogs has made comeback through Tiktok audios because that move- mmmmm. I did cry.
Okay there that one audio that compiles both of the “I bite” and “I don’t know why I bite” scenes into one, but I would split that into two deprecate videos. I think one would be Icarus talking to Rae, “I am not you pet, I never liked you, I don’t care about you, I won’t wait for you,l. I bite.” Because oh me when brothers. Me when they argue and Icarus pretends not to care about him to create some distance. “I’m not your brother”.
The “I don’t know why I bite” scene would be them sitting with someone they love, I always imagine it’s them talking with Centross. Them feeling guilty about fighting with their family or smth, or it’s them talking to the things “why do I hurt everything I love?” Energy.
2 - “Fight little Wolf Fight!” Me when whisper duo. I just looked through my audios and ahhh I can’t not say the whisper duo ones.
3 - “why can’t you accept that she might be living a good and honest life? Because I wanted that mom!” It’s Rae. Rae wanted that dad. Rae wanted that brother. Ones that were good and kind to him. Ones that loved him the way he did them.
4 - ghost of Chicago but it’s Haley Hallucinations-
5 - “you’ll be a blemish in the street nothing but a memory a bad dream I’ll make you scream” it’s S2 prison arc.
6 - “what’s the bravest thing you’ve ever said? …Help.” Uncle Centross times
7 - “Those kids look up to you” “I know” “yeah you know, but you don’t know.” The whole whatever happens is your fault. I think of this as maybe Ulysses yelling at Fable or Ari talking back. Smth like that.
That’s all I’ll bring to you if you read this thanks for taking time out of your day too look at my silly lil ideas :)
You are loved and appreciated <3

wanted to ask, could we get a look in to how you put together your animatics?? I've been toying with the idea of trying to make one of my own, but I've got no idea where to start
oh yeah totally
though to be fair, a HUGE chunk of my time is spent listening to about 20 seconds of a song and imagining how the images move around like a little movie, and I refine a ton of stuff in my head before starting to actually put scenes down on paper. This happens with non-music boarding too, imagining different versions of how the scenes line up with dialogue/music. So step one: put a song on repeat and daydream for at least two hours. But, if you aren’t sure how to do this, I’d suggest looking at animatics, MAP projects, AMVs, animated musicals, fight scenes, etc. what do they do that’s cool? Imitate them.
after that, I have most of the main images with some blank spots im not sure how to fill until I put them down. I make something like this and get the compositions of each main image looking more or less okay in this form. This is also the stage I figure out the in between blank spots. I try not to have weird camera moves or other storyboarding don’ts, but some storyboarding donts are completely valid to break if you know what you want aesthetically. As usual. This one was actually pretty clean, but check out all the framing edits. i always have to make the frame bigger
Tumblr media
If you really don’t know what goes in between things, don’t be afraid to focus on some little details of the scene, pull out and show us the setting, put some flowery symbolism on screen, give us some fun little comedic anime inserts, or do what cowboy standoffs do and build tension. What we used to do was draw paws stepping across the screen or eyes blinking, lol
next comes audio sync! I like to get the timing extant on copies of these rough thumbnails before moving on. It helps my brain work through smaller more animated movements + testing if the things I came up with for the blank spots work. and also just makes it happy. And also, most importantly, it tests if the compositions work. If you can see it, the whole sequence with mom was a blank spot until I sketched it. I usually do this step in roughanimator even if i don’t finish it in roughanimator. Keeps it very rough.
after this is just a lot of polishing and layers! For lots of small animatics, I just use roughanimator and leave it like that. It’s surprisingly good for a very basic program. But, for things that need tweens or lots of camera movement, I use toon boom harmony. It’s more powerful and is actually supposed to be used for animation, which. Yknow. I do. I tried storyboard pro, it wasn’t my favorite.
Here are some, I guess, miscellaneous more technical tips for making your animatics feel nice!
If you’re going for lots of movement, try out timing it so big movements or scene transitions line up with the spikes in the audio WAV. If it doesn’t feel right, move it a few frames BEFORE the spike/audio beat. Your brain usually wants to see something move barely before it hears it - this works for dialogue especially. BUT! Don’t feel like you have to do this for every beat. unless you want to feel like Wes Anderson, which you can do and I will not stop you.
If you’re going for something slower with not that much movement, try motion tweening! or adjusting something very slowly so we don’t linger on one still image for forever.
you don’t need crazy camera angles for everything, but put a few in there for spice. This all depends on your mood you want to cultivate. Slow = flatter, spacious, details; fast = lots of moves, weird angles, perspective; disorienting = slow/jerky weird angles etc etc. the camera has emotions built into it. Because the camera is you! surprise!
watch storyboarding tutorials. lots of people zoom in too much when they draw and I am not excluded. Also, keep in mind the eyesight rule. It’s hard for me to explain concisely but… you as the artist are always leading the viewers eye somewhere, with every shot you make. Don’t make them dizzy by having the center of attention jump around to six different spots for six shots straight - if you find yourself unhappy with a sequence, especially a fast one, see if your line of sight is going all over the place and try moving the subject of a shot or two somewhere else or having them move/gesture towards the new shot’s focal point so the viewers eye moves there naturally. I’m actually not great at doing this when words/lyrics are involved, pmv makers have my respect.
contrast is your friend. If you want to emphasize a big fast move or big bright image, put little slow moves or simple images right before/after it. and vice versa! this counts for camera too!
easy camera shakes are just 3-4 frames of cam down/up/down less/up less, a blank tween or two (easing back into normal), and then a key for your desired normal camera location. Or left/right, whichever.
your brain needs about six frames to fully register an object as being an object. If you want someone to see and really See it, rather than just get a glimpse of it and go "What was that!" It needs more than six frames.
don’t be afraid to experiment!!!!!! And don’t get overwhelmed! Everything I just described I MOSTLY do off instinct, which you’ll get a sense for after you make one. Or like…. Ten. Does it feel good in your heart? Then that’s what’s important. Find an idea you want to make move, figure out your limits (programs, attention span, drawing capability, make sure not to commit to a minute long amv if you dont KNOW you wanna do a minute long amv), and plan around that. When I was A Child, people on youtube were just making like three amvs per second and cringe hadn’t been invented yet so they were all mostly untrained unpolished and so so important and based to me. Stop thinking so hard about it. You gotta get that animatic out there into the world or it’ll start fermenting in your brain and make you sick. So what if it doesn’t turn out exactly the way you imagined it? You’ll have another idea tomorrow. And if it matters that much, you can always do it again. Go make! Good luck!

JOKER OUT STOŽICE - REVIEW
Sorry for this review coming out this late. I know the album has been out for me for the past 14 hours, but 1. Fandom is not my life priority and 2. Yesterday I was close to collapsing due to dehydration, hunger, and lack of sleep so I hope you understand why I'm putting this out now (I'm okay)
Sunny Side Of London
I don't have a lot to comment on because we already had this song, but I'll never not say that SSOL live is so much better than the studio version ESPECIALLY because of the ending. We don't get 30 seconds of emptiness but we get a wholeass show!
Gola
The perfect transition???? I didn't notice the song changed.
I love how you can hear the people singing along
ZA NAJYU
I got ads between songs -_- (3, I hate you Spotify)
Bele Sanje
Uuu u uu
Bele Sanje my beloved
no lala :(
guitars :)
THE TRANSITION
IT'S SO GOOD
IT'S LIKE BEING THERE
Plastika
Bojan's interpretation is so good.
He didn't get too invested - which could be bad because he could lose the vocal aspect - but instead he did just enough for us to get the message and keep the quality, which I love(I hope this makes sense)
PLAAAASTIKA
Ads...
Proti Toku
See, I think on this one he was close to cross the line of "too much interpretation".
Kris' voice???? Audible??? 👀
Dopamin
My baby <3
Inject Kris' back vocals in my veins
ZAMEEE
I had to take a break to go groccery shopping and have lunch
Padam
it's so good live...it has no right
It was the best song in the Madrid gig and I can say it sounds just as good here
You can hear the guitars so clearly
Idk if it's just me, but I would think people would be quiet during this song because it's so depressing, but it sounds nice either way.
BOJAN'S INTERPRETATION>>>>>>
FUCKING ADS
Demoni
They still need to make the break between Padam and Demoni longer, imo. We need time to process our feelings.
DEMONI SCREAM
KAD NEMAN TEBE
Katrina
POVEJ MI KATRINA
Don't mind me, I'm just doing a quick google search on how to have JO's discography in my veins
A sem ti povedal
HELLO???? THIS INTRO!???
My mom called me to help with shores halfway through it -_-
The isolation of Bojan's voice IS SUCH A GOOD CHOICE
Bojan stop trying to make me cry
The solo owns my life
I need Kris' voice to be louder for a true duet
ADS AGAIN
Omamljeno Telo
I love you so much
in.my.veins.now
Kot Scre, Ki Kri Poganja
FINALLY ON SPOTIFY
Martin in the credits 🥹
BOJAN SAYING MARTIIIIN
Metulji
6 MINUTES!?
It's such an important song to me, so I don't mind
This song is like a massage in my head. Does it make sense?
KRIS?????
JAN SOLO
ADS, ADS, I'M TOO POOR FOR SPOTIFY PREMIUM
Vse Kar Vem
Live is the only proper way to listen to this song
I really wish Kris mic's volume was just a bit higher
"Brave Oceana"
Ah yes, my favourite Batman In song
I love that a SEA of people sang a part on their own.
Get it? Get i-*gunshots*
JURE MAČEK
ads...
Ngvot
I refuse to spell the whole name and I hate that each word starts in caps
KRIS SINGING ON SPOTIFY IS MY NEW ROMAN EMPIRE
HIS TI PA BARVO LAS
"what brings you to Ljubljana?" IT'S YOU
the fact that yesterday I was even talking about how last year I wanted to do Erasmus this year in Ljubljana and I say "nO, because nobody speaks or knows slovenian"...oh boy (sometimes I'm dumb)
I WAS SO HYPED FOR THIS
FOR TWO FUCKING VERSES
"Ya ya"?
Vem Da Greš
Tbf, it's still the song I probably care for the least. I only listen to it from time to time.
ad...
Ne Bi Smel
Jure's soooooolo

oh, okay, kris? wanna make this a duet?
Ona
HELLO, THE INTRO!? FGWYFJFHWDJL
Petition for Kris' to sing the female Ona voice
omg...what's this? AN AD!?

TVOJ KORAKI
Tokio will never not have a special place on my heart

rank Lover for Lover anniversary?
ooooh boy alright let’s go
cruel summer: (this will be a long personal tangent btw) i remember when loverfest was going to happen and i didn’t have a car or money or anything so i didn’t even try for tickets and i was like. well it’s not a single so this might be the only tour she every plays it on and i was just kinda resolved to never listen to it live. and then eras tour rolls around and everyone is getting tickets to opening night and the biggest part of fomo for me is like. i just want to scream this song with my friends and i was like idk i hope at least a few of them think of me when they scream my url and then i luck into basically face value tickets the week before and im prayyyyyying its on the setlist AND THEN BOOM ITS ONE OF THE FIRST SONGS. NAD AFTER FIVE YEARS I GET TO BE AMONG THE FIRST PEOPLE TO HEAR THE SONG LIVE. and i was CRYINGGGGGGGG
the archer: genuinely made me the person i am today for reasons i can not express without getting way to personal. you might be going, claire, if it’s so important to you, why is it #2? and look man. taylor screaming out he looks up grinning like a devil is just that satisfying
lover: i love this song i listen to it all the time it restored my faith in taylor swift etc etc. now if i can rant about track listing for a minute. this should’ve gone after the archer like the archer leaves you with this note of unfulfillment and uncertainty and the beat never drops and then what does lover start with? this deep reassuring thrum of a bass. it allows the archer to have its artistic integrity and make its point about anxiety never fully dissipating and then BOOM they’re choosing to build a life with each other and she’s being vulnerable and the transition between the two enhances both songs
cornelia street: LIKE THATS HOW YOU TAKE A SPECIFIC AND MAKE IT UNIVERSAL LIKE!!! that one interview where’s she’s explaining the concept of the song and the interviewer goes “oh, that’s me with this bar. if my wife left me i’d never be able to go into that bar again” LIKE HELLO. ALSO THE CITY OF LOVER VERSION?????
daylight: like cmon now LIKE CMON NOW
soon you’ll get better: its a really good song it means a lot to me i think its expertly described
paper rings: on my first listen i could not stand this song and i can not tell you why it’s so fun and well made. apologies to paper rings 2019 claire wasn’t ready for you
inthaf: no because the speaker loses both of her gloves so the lover gives her one so they’re both a little cold and a little warm and neither of them are alone. like shut the fuck up
afterglow: THOSE DRUMS
ithk: so when lover came out i would take the bus everywhere and to get from one bus to the other i would have to walk through this big empty field with an abandoned parking lot in it and like no one was around so i would strut and dance and sing along to music and ithk was a favorite for my empty field time.
maathp: one of my first listen favorites! it’s fallen over the years but i still think the core of it— americas sweetheart falling from grace alongside america’s self mythology— is a really cool concept
false god: over the course of my first and second listens i ate half a jar of peanut butter with a spoon and i don’t remember exactly what point i started but i think it was this song
dbatc: i used to HATE the production of this song and over the years it’s risen but i must admit i’m still avoidant of it
london boy: it’s a bop but i am irish. american but still
yntcd: the step up of the oh-oh Oh-Oh- OH-OH OH-OH ᴼᴴ⁻ᴼᴴ is solidddd. also it’s cheesy and all and it’s not like i thought she was homophobic but it did mean a lot to me to hear taylor swift be so publicly okay with gay people
iftye: i listened to this while driving with the windows down to the beach once and you know what. song of all time in that moment
me: it’s fun! i don’t hate it! not my favorite though. obviously
the man: so to be fair this song was never going to live up to the killers song with the same title that i was Obsessed with in 2019 BUT it’s also just like. like it has some amazing lines and i connect with some of the sentiment but i like. idk i just don’t dream of being the oppressor yknow

i love you so fucking much like a 3-4/10 : just doesnt read as a glass animals album its like yeah if you gave this from a generic soft pop band yeah bam like a fucking 7 or some shit but this is HTBAHB Glass Animals. ZABA DUDE DO NOT FORGET ZABA!!!
painfully generic? Too poppy this time in an uninteresting way. personally i see no complete cohesive idea/theme/vibe tying everything together (yeah i know love and heartache but it does not show through with the track cohesion)the songs are so disjointed its genuinely a detriment. (filler tracks exist for a reason dumbshits)
-show pony: do dont like the chorus, too sharp? the audio is sharp and does not sound too nice, the sharp guitar though is acceptable, rhyming is ... interesting, leaves the song droning over and over, trying to drill the chorus in your head. i dont understand what its trying to set up. guitar compression is probably the best thing
-whathehellishappening : mild whiplash transition between songs but i get it,its kinda funny, again pretty unassuming each bridge/verse sounds too similar to differentiate them, again plain and unobtrusive, catchy chorus hmmm i wonder why, ends funny but i wont get why you wouldnt lead into a break track
-creatures in heaven : a little more interesting pacing wise, more personable, snappy?, again chorus is pretty prominent to a more notable amount, interest break with the space elements, wait why are there space elements, is this supposed to bright the dichotomy of heaven and earth
-wonderful nothing : start with the title oh fun, wait why are all of these songs starting with their title,i like the vocals more becuase they dont force themselves into higher notes where you can hear the strain, the beginning into the main song is funky and probably the best beat tbh,idk bdsm kink shit i like, nice layering i enjoy as the song goes but couldve been shortened, repeats a bit too much.
-a tear in space : To be honest i was so excited by this beginning riff that i wanted Wonderful Nothing to somehow lead into, these songs are so disjointed it feels like im being shoved around with no direction with how to process what im being told, rhyme dog with floor, look man i like it because of the constant variety of vocal style, BUT dude the auto tune fucking sucks and is really jarring, again catchy chorus lyrics cmon guys an album ISNT supposed to be 10 signles lumped together you NEED glue the velcro or at least something, i really like the violin/synth i just really like how light it is
i cant make you fall in love again : guitars fine WAIT THE TITLE AGAIN? jeeeeeez dudes, jumps in pretty fast with trying to hook in the chorus, does he always sing with the chorus staying at the same note. really unobtrusive lyrics wise, i enjoy his sultrier voice but at least he doesnt try to strain himself too bad but its noticable again, bland
how i learned to love the bomb : THIS IS SEX BOMBOMB AND W- sorry, this one and the previous track blend together with the droning beats and singing. the chorus is nice with this one, i like the guitar but i swear i will not remember what makes these two different. at least its not saying its title every three seconds. reminds me of that 2016 era of popi just see nothing interesting in here
-white roses : TITLE STARTS WOOOOO, it just STARTS but not excitingly! Repeating repeating repeat the drill is here and its staying!!!! Space again, wait what why? who knows. just doesnt keep my attention with the lyrics or vocal inflections(except the auto tune which makes me physically recoil like where did this come from), chorus is fine, reapeating repeating repeating and CATCHY!!! COME ON GUYS LISTEN TO THE RA DIO,
-on the run : beginning is actually interesting, i like the weird vocal beat pretty funky at least for this album, i like how he sings this beginning BUT the chorus makes me want to scream, how does this TRANSITION SO BAD? again DRONING BORING, rest of the song is okay? the chorus is the worst part and is jarring and detrimental, kinda like how the autotune in any other part of the album is. unobtrusive and radio material....hm....
lost in the ocean : i like the low key ukelele and singing, chorus is again pretty stripped but he just has more interesting inflections that lead the song forward. LOVE the background singing! the gradual growth of the song lends itself to something that BARELY resembles a glass animals songs, yes a slow and mournful one but its there. the hearts still there. Its just....still a little too obvious on the hey im a single yeah! swaying in the kitchen song, very simple and doowoppy. Cute! Bad ending to an album
Ranking : lost in the ocean 6/10 a tear in space 5/10 creature in heaven 5/10 wonderful nothings 5/10 -frankly i dont care how the rest fall. i wont listen to them willingly ever again-
OVERALL : dissapointing! Go listen to Dreamland (i think its a way better album than this. Get over ur hate boner on Heat Waves) or better yet! ZABA or HTBAHB!!!

Hello darling! So I’m like totally in love with your gifs, they’re all literally breathtaking and gorgeous. So this is an open invitation to gush about them. Tell us which one did you have the most fun with, which one was the most difficult, a little detail you’re proud of. I’m more than happy to hear it all!
hello dear!!!!!
man this is such a nice ask I'm gonna SOB 😭😭😭😭
okay I'm not one to halfass gushing about my shit so this is gonna be mostly under the cut cos it's gonna be long and image heavy
for sure the one I had the most fun with is the yellow set. that song came on shuffle and it was like light bulb going on. it's Crowley's color but also STARS!!!!! I knew I wanted to do something pretty to match lyrics and ngl I was worried I wouldn't do it justice but I'm really really happy with how the whole thing turned out, especially the second gif!!!
okay a little more about the second gif cos that's my baby (i literally still have the psd that's how proud of it i am) like I said in the tags it's 4 gifs blended together (I did and still do have trouble with blending but this was such a helpful scene it was wonderful to blend)
at first I started with three layers, the base (which i added a sepia filter to to match the color scheme)
Tumblr media
crowley and aziraphale with some coloring to emphasize the yellow (speaking of helpful scenes, literally both azi and crow have yellow lighting on them it's meant to be)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and this was my ending result!
Tumblr media
I really loved it as it was and was going to post it, but then i noticed the stars peeking through azi near the end there and thought of adding another base layer, just to have MORE stars and have them on crowley too (it's what he would've wanted) this was my second base (again with the sepia filter)
Tumblr media
and that's where i got my final gif!!!
Tumblr media
I loved the font too ngl, I try to try new things with the font each set and it can be challenging but I liked this one.
also shoutout to the last gif of that set, crowley's expression never fails to make me weep.
now a gif that was a bit challenging is definitely the second one in the glitch set and not because of the glitch (i tried the glitch effect once before and didn't really understand shit then stumbled across this amazing tutorial and it suddenly became the easiest thing) but because the two scenes i wanted to transition between didn't really match up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
see the shot of azi sitting alone is a bit farther. and honestly I could've just used it as it was but I love making things more difficult for myself. so I had to crop that gif a little closer than i normally would to make it match up a bit better. it took me a couple of tries (and an embarrassing run with photoshop's ruler and at one point an actual physical ruler) but I like to think I matched them up nicely. I really love that set in general, I'm a sucker for a transition gif so it was fun to make all around!
okay I could go like this all day but I think that's enough for now. thank you so much for that ask baby! it was really fun!

Lyrics Theory/Analysis- Favorite Record, Dead On Arrival, Immortals
Okay. Hear me out guys.
It's been like super clear that Favorite Record and Dead On Arrival connect with DOA's "I know I'm not your favorite record" etc. But I like getting into the little details of these things, so I looked at it a little more and the connections I found are super cool.
In Favorite Record, the pre-chorus lyrics.. "Spin for you like your favorite records used to Spin for you like your favorite record-"
In between Dead On Arrival and Favorite Record, there's plenty of time for Pete to become the subject's "favorite record." Hence the idea that these songs both show different tail ends of the same story- Dead On Arrival's lines "I know I'm not your favorite record, but the songs you grow to like never stick at first" pin down gaining someone's admiration, friendship, or love. In between that time we have the unportrayed space where Pete *was* the person's favorite record. Then you have a still unportrayed portion of time where where the relationship is coming to a slow and Pete is no longer the person's favorite record- but he still wants to be, and that's what Favorite Record is.
Throughout Favorite Record there is looking back on older, happier times in this relationship, and tearing away to hear "I spin for you like your favorite records used to" is a way of saying "hey, we can go back to this, I'm still making an effort to be your favorite." It definitely seems to be portraying a relationship that slowed and became one-sided.
I want to return to the pre-chorus that I mentioned earlier, and how it cuts off before saying "used to" in that pre-chorus. Yes, it sounds good in the song, but it also can point towards the point I've been getting at with the rest of this analysis- that Pete was the favorite record. He's spinning like the favorite record because he *is* the favorite record, begging to still be picked up and played.
I threw in Immortals after a little bit more thinking about this theory. AB/AP only has two transitions in the whole album, the first being Uma Thurman into Jet Pack Blues (which is absolutely cruel) and the second being Favorite Record into Immortals. I think this could also be very telling to the dynamic of Favorite Record- Immortals having lines like "I try to picture me without you but I can't" (and that whole chorus, really). And also these lines:
"Sometimes the only payoff for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again every day"
Could also possibly connect into wanting to be close with the person as they once were but things still being one sided.
Okay I thought this was interesting that's all folks

Hi! This is the anon that dropped in a few months ago to share my appreciation for your Mayor Attorney playlist on Spotify! Ever since I sent that ask I've wondered... what made you put the songs on there that you did? In other words, why is each song on there? Feel free to ignore this if you don't want to answer, but I've just been curious for a while about each song's significance on the playlist. Whatever you decide to do, thanks for your time, and have a lovely rest of your day! -💙
💙anon thank you so much for this ask I love explaining my playlists i would love to explain >:3
for the songs, some songs are ones I've heard on other mayor attorney playlists and added them to mine, others are ones ive had little animatics in my head for, and some are just songs with the vibes that remind me of them jsahdsdf, i could go into depth on all the songs but we'd be here forever so ill just go to the more general explanations. it'l be below the cut just bc i accidentally wrote a lot for this asjkhdbaskjd
for the playlist, i tried dividing the songs into roughly three categories: university days, election years, and post-darkness/mirror.
the first section is university days, where it would be songs about crushes, cozy and upbeat songs that make you feel happy and excited, and old songs that had good vibes to them. it was meant to symbolize the vibes and emotions of when damien n the da would have first met. everything is new and exciting, things feel comfortable and okay, and the love is positive and all-around consuming.
the second is election years, which is more for songs that are the same level of pining as university days but more sadder in a sense. this starts around sweater weather i think (these sections arnt hard areas of the playlist, they slowly transition between them but this section i can certainly say where it starts) . this is for the realization between the two that there is a small chance of them being together in this time, whether its because your/the da isn't female identifying at the time or maybe its public eyes making it hard for two people in positions of power to date, either way this is for the realization that they cant be together. they continue being friends and pining, but theres the helplessness of not being able to date, or at least not publicly.
then we get to post-darkness/mirror. it starts off with songs about remembering the past: when i met you, daisy bell, i hear a symphony, always, the night we met. this is directly after the da gets trapped in the mirror, trying to remember the days before everything happened, when they were with the damien they remember. then begins the mirror part, where both the da and dark/damien think about the other. this section is rather loose because its mainly my own hopes that the two still care for each other, losing all the initial anger they had from the party and replaced with a dull hope. its the angst section if you will. its less stronger in explanation because its all depending on what you hope for them. maybe they want to rescue each other still, maybe they gave up and just reminisce about the past with hurt but still caring lens, maybe all they can do is wait it out, maybe they find each other and see what the others become, maybe they still love each other regardless. its loose because thats how markiplier lore is, and its open for interpretation askjhd
and thats the whole playlist i think! kjhaskdjasjkd

yves - loop 🎵
initial thoughts:
i wish translations were already available bc i feel like the lyrics are so important to this ep.
it’s nice to go into an album knowing that the artist had so much say over the sound + development of the project, bc even if i don’t particularly enjoy it, it’s still really encouraging to know that this is what yves wanted to create and release.
i’ve only followed the loona members distantly and i know almost kp nothing about yves other than the info surrounding this release, so i’m excited to get to know her a bit more through this
diorama: i like the flow of the melody + the beat and instrumentals of the tracks. it’s so lowkey but the bass is so prominent that it doesn’t feel soft. reminds me of eunoia (billlie) in certain parts. it will be a grower for me, but it definitely has a place already on some playlists
loop (feat. lil cherry): i just watched the mv and idk how i feel about it. there’s potential though… i want to know what she’s saying… she looked so proud in the mv especially toward the end. like she was exactly where she was meant to and wanted to be and that’s super powerful // i think the instrumental to this would be soo nice. i’m unsure about all the choices made with the singing + rap but the instrumental is sooo fantastic. i already know this will grow on me + i’ll have a more informed opinion once the lyrics drop
afterglow: such a pretty title… i like the opening a lot. her voice sounds so beautiful here. this is so different from the previous two songs but it makes sense still. ik she introduced this as meeting someone [like an ex] and wanting that relationship back but not but then realizing maybe you do and being confused about where you’re at emotionally + what you want. it felt so brief
goldfish: a fan song 🤍 she emotes so well with just her voice. i like the melody and atmosphere of the song a lot. I’m sure this is the one that had folk influences, which i always love. my og genre 🫶
overall:
while i would have liked a more sonically cohesive project, it’s obv okay to have your solo be diverse. the transition between songs isn’t entirely smooth, but i think it’s just the result of having such variety with only four tracks. there’s not space to soften or transition. her voice sounds so different between each song, so the diversity was a great choice for showing off how lovely her vocals are + how much potential she has for future releases. a longer ep or full album will be super interesting for sure
i want to listen again. it makes me want to hear more from her and check out performances and how she explains everything from this album. it keeps my interest in yves as an artist and will make me follow her cb, which is a key goal of a debut, so i think she’s successful.
i think it comes across as simpler and easier to digest than it is. it seems like something that’s meant to be turned over and over and held onto for a while. i really like how genuine the entire album feels. it feels like it was made intentionally and with a lot of care.
afterglow is predictably the standout track for me, bc of the topic and sound. i like all of it a lot, and ik it will grow on me. idk how i’ll feel about it a month from now, but it’ll be nice to explore that in the meantime.

Okay, so I lied (unintentionally) in my last Goose post. There is, in fact, another great video of another great jam from the Thekla show. I think I forgot about it because it's not twenty-five minutes long.
Anyway, this will be the first time but certainly not the last time I do a write-up on a version of "All I Need." This song has been a jam vehicle in the heart of Goose sets since I started listening in 2019 and, while it's taken a backseat in more recent days to newer, shinier songs, any time it does get played you can count on it to at least take you on a nice trip around the block, though occasionally it will instead drop you into the heart of a black hole (this version is more the former than the latter). If I can make a Phish comparison (because, in my imagination, it serves the audience I pretend reads these posts), it's sort of analogous to how "Down With Disease" fits into the Phish catalog these days: old, once-great warhorse that's still good for high-quality if not necessarily mind-bending jams.
One more thing you should know about this song before we jump in, especially because it's something that'll be very relevant when I write about the Goosemas "Mirror Planet" set soon: "All I Need" has two different arrangements. I don't think I've written about this yet, but one of my favorite somewhat unique things about Goose when I first got into them was that they had multiple songs that were played in different ways on different nights. The first example of this that I was aware of (and also the clearest example) is the difference between the songs "So Ready" and "Slow Ready."
As you can probably intuit from their titles, these are the same basic song (same lyrics, melody, chords, etc.) but the "original" version is played fast, while the "alternate" version is played (you guessed it) slow. If you check out the videos I linked, or you already know the songs, obviously the differences between "So Ready" and "Slow Ready" are a bit more extensive than just changing the song's tempo, but they are also definitely different takes on the same general idea. There are also multiple arrangements of the songs "Tumble," "Indian River," "Atlas Dogs," and of course "All I Need"...as well as others that I'm sure I'm forgetting off the top of my head.
The alternate-versions-of-songs thing is important here for two reasons. First, I think it's cool as a way of injecting variation into shows, both for me as an audience members and (I assume) for the band, who clearly don't want to play the same songs the same ways every night. It's fun to go to a show knowing you might get to hear the rare, "slow" version of "Tumble," or that if you hear "So Ready" one night you might hear "Slow Ready" the next. Second, it's worth knowing before we jump in that the Thekla version of "All I Need" is the slow version. If you're interested in the differences, there are, helpfully, studio tracks of both versions!
As usual, I'm not going to go on and on about the composed part of the song here, since that's more or less the same for every take on the song (slow vs. fast versions aside). It's a Goose song, so I'm partial to it. If you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose, I'd say I like the fast arrangement better, but the slow one has become the default over the last year or two, and it's good, too. I do particularly like the mid-song piano break in the slow version, though Pete mildly biffs the transition into it in this version.
The piano solo segues into a solo from Rick, who quickly changes keys at 4:27 to lead into a longer jam (this seems to be a sort-of planned key change that the band has been executing here in a lot of recent versions of this song). I don't have a good enough ear to tell you exactly what key this is, but it seems chosen to lead to a darker, more contemplative type of jam space, at least initially. The lights are a good complement to the jam as the rhythm section holds down a foundation for Peter and Rick to slowly build on top of.
I feel like the last few jams I've covered on here have been really Rick-centric, so I'm happy that in the first few minutes of this jam, Peter's keys are a bit more prominent.
At 6:34, Rick starts alternating (I think: again, not the best ear here) between two different keys (or at least modes), introducing some tension between the early, darker space of the jam and something more uplifting. The differences between the two spaces and the precision with which the band starts switching between them once everyone gels is really cool: this isn't necessarily the most spectacular jamming I've heard from Goose, but it's something I don't hear them do very often, and that's my favorite thing about this version of "All I Need": not every jam is going to be the Best Jam Ever, but getting to hear something new at every show is what I buy tickets and drive across states hoping for.
At 10:25, the band finally stops to hang out in the more blissful space for a bit longer, and this is maybe my favorite part of the whole jam. Peter is the highlight for me, laying down washes of reverb-drenched notes, but Rick's phrasing is bonkers, and the whole rhythm section is locked in. I know there are a lot of fans out there that don't find Trevor's playing to be dynamic enough, but I completely disagree and in moments like these in particular really appreciate his ability to know (to engage in an (in)famous paraphrase) what notes not to play.
We rip back into the aggressive side of the jam at 11:19, and while I can't complain about what it basically Goose's take on a 90s "Slave To The Traffic Light" jam, it would have been great to get more of that reverb-y vibey goodness...
...but I digress. This last transition leads smoothly back into "All I Need" proper, and they wrap up the song from there.
One of the many things I've really appreciated from Goose in 2023 is their increasing ability to get really deeply into really engaging improvisation quickly: in past years, nearly all of my favorite jams have been twenty-plus-minute monsters, but this year I'm finding just as many ten- or twelve-minute jams that are worth listening back to. I think this "All I Need" (and most other versions from this fall) is a great example of that.
Next time: "Hot Tea" from London!
