For you:
“Sky we’ve been gone for long enough…”
“This is major, Legend!!!” Sky hissed.
“Okay, okay!” Legend threw his hands up.
The chosen’s scowl twisted into a happy grin and he pulled out some Pegasus Boots. The veteran blinked and stared at the brown boots for a few seconds. “…Uh…Sky? Why do you have my boots?”
Sky’s grin got somehow even wider. “You’ll see!”
Legend stepped back a little and put on a nervous small smile. The boots gave a glimmer and the hole they had in them before had disappeared. But something told the vet that Sky did something more. “Chosen…” He trailed off.
“C’mon vet!”
“…”
“Unless you want me to give them to the captain…”
“No, no! I’ll take them!”
Sky smirked and carefully handed them to Legend. He leaned back and gestured to the pair of footwear. “Try them on!”
Legend hesitated but remembered the reason they had ripped in the first place was because of Warriors and he quickly shoved them on, replacing the shoes he had borrowed from the traveller. He looked expectantly at the skyloftian and waited for a command or a comment. Sky simply sat down and fidgeted with a few dry blades of grass. Legend made a confused noise and went to sit down next to him but suddenly the wings on his boots began to flutter and all of a sudden his stomach lurched as the air carried him and all he could see were hues of green and blue. “Whoa!” He blurted out.
He felt a surge of panic when he noticed a huge tree in front of him and tried to stop but suddenly he turned and whizzed past the tree towards the open field. The panic disappeared almost instantly and a laugh bubbled from his throat. Soon he was cheering as the boots gave him a ride. For a second he thought he saw the chosen waving to him. Eventually he stopped and fell flat on his back. “Legend?” He heard Sky call worriedly.
“I-I’m okay.” Legend promised and sat up, a little dizzy, but he was beaming.
Sky stifled a giggle. “Vet, your hair.”
Legend rose a hand up to his hair and felt the frizziness. He could just imagine what it looked like right now and straight up fell back on the ground laughing. Sky ended up also falling beside him, the sounds of joy echoing throughout the air. At this point his stomach hurt from all the laughing but he didn’t care. When things calmed down the veteran stood up and dusted off his tunic and then grabbed the chosen’s hand and helped him up. “You’re not hurt though, right?” Sky asked.
“I’m not! That was actually a lot of fun!” Legend let out a breathy chuckle.
Sky sighed, relief clear on his features. “Oh, good.”
“How does that even work though? That was some major speed.” Legend mused, as he took the pegasus boots off of his feet and grabbed the traveller’s shoes instead.
“I have no idea! I just went to a guy on one of the roads that looked powerful and asked if he could help me mend the boots! And he told me he could also do this so I couldn’t turn the offer down, no?” Sky answered looking honest.
Legend paused for a moment. “You…”
“Don’t worry I tested them on a Remlit back in Skyloft, and I saw how they worked!” Sky reassured.
The veteran decided he would not try to comprehend that right now. “Well, thanks.”
Sky gave him a smile, his eyes glimmering with pure joy.
Hope you enjoyed :D

Intertwined Fates (Chilumi/Zhonglumi) - Chapter 4
Free from uni for now... Hopefully I can write more! Thank you for waiting patiently!
Can be read in ao3 here
SUMMARY: As Ajax looks forward to their future, someone from the past awakens...
“You know, just because I said I wanted more kids, doesn’t mean we have to do it like every night… or whenever we’re alone…” Lumine gave out a slight moan in the end when she felt her lover suck that sensitive mark on her neck, “Ajax, it’s too early in the morning and I need to walk today.” she whined, gasping when he bit her softly.
“Sorry, you look too delicious.” Ajax grinned, letting go of her so she could roll on her back to look at him with a pout.
“Same excuses.” Lumine playfully rolled her eyes, “Anyway… do you think she’s ready for school?”
Lumine felt Ajax tensed, letting out a sigh when she saw his shoulder trembling, “Oh my god, Ajax, please…”
“My baby girl is growing too fast.” his voice cracked.
Ever since Lumine reminded Ajax about Qiqi starting school a week ago, the man had been a bit emotional. Coddling the child ever since and keep asking if she’s ready, and it’s totally fine if she doesn't want to and he can just hire a private tutor for her. Lumine had to hit him at the back of the head saying that it’s important for their child to learn how to socialise.
“Lumi, our baby will be surrounded by boys! I can’t handle the thought of giving my princess away, Lumi, I can’t!”
“Ajax, she’s 5.”
“I can’t, Lumi!”
Lumine isn’t gonna lie, she’s also worried about how Qiqi would fare being with other kids considering she hadn’t interacted with kids her age.
But this should be it, right? The right time for Qiqi to meet and interact with other children.
The blonde also has that anxiety within her, what if someone’s mean to her child? Crush Qiqi’s dreams of having playmates?
Qiqi isn’t sure what she’s getting into, but as her parents explained what school was, there was excitement in her eyes as they talked about the various learning activities it has.
Besides, the pre-school was only a couple blocks away from their bakery, Lumine should be able to be by her side when needed.
“Lumi, what if our Qiqi falls in love? And that punk beaks her heart? She would be safer here, I already have the best tutor in mind.” Ajax tries to convince her.
“Ajax, for the last time, no one’s falling in love with anyone.” Lumine groaned, “And if it’ll make you feel better, the class has more girls than boys.”
“...What if she likes girls?”
“Then we love her just as much, but for fuck sake, Ajax, they’re kids. Worry when she’s in high school or college.” Lumine rolled her eyes, only to regret it when Ajax gave her a horrified look.
“I don’t want my baby to grow up.” he cried.
“Ajax, we can’t stop the cycle of life…” Lumine sighed, it’s too early to deal with this.
“So that’s why we should make more babies.” Ajax grinned, only to be hit by a pillow on the face.
“Oh my god, I’m going to check on Qiqi before dealing with any more of your bullshit this early morning,” Lumine said with a chuckle.
“Baaabe, homeschooling isn’t so bad!” Ajax called out for her only to receive an eye roll.
He pouted and decided to get ready himself, Qiqi’s going to school, he doesn’t need to work from home anymore. So it’s back to the office with him, back to dealing with his insufferable co-workers, especially the midget.
With that thought, he got up from the bed with an annoyed groan.
~~~
“Bye, bye, Papa. Love you.” Qiqi said, kissing his cheek before getting out of the car and grabbing her mother’s waiting hand.
“Bye, sweetie, have fun at school, okay? And if someone hurts you, tell Papa so I can take care of it, okay? Papa loves you.” Ajax smiled, earning a scoff from Lumine.
“Don’t teach our child violence this early.” she tsked before leaning in the car window, “Good luck at work and don’t kill anyone. I love you,” she said before pecking his lips goodbye.
“Hm, I’ll try not to make Mona a widow.” he grinned, “Bye, see you tonight. I love you too.” Ajax said, waiting and watching his girls to make sure they’ll be fine before driving off to his office.
Despite still being anxious for his daughter’s first day of school, he can’t help but fall in love with their new routine already. Him making their breakfast while Lumine prepares Qiqi for school, him dropping them off at the bakery, Lumine walking Qiqi the few minutes walk to her preschool. They all do their day until Qiqi’s done with preschool by 12 noon, Lumine picking her up and staying at the bakery until it’s time for Ajax to pick them up and go back home.
He can’t wait until more of his future kids join their routine.
Ajax is never trading this life for anything.
~~~
“Thank you, and have fun with your new kite!” the brunette smiled softly as he handed the kite to the child.
“Thank you, Mister! Thank you, Dad!” the little girl grinned, jumping excitedly as she hugged the toy to her chest, “Let’s go to the park! I wanna see the fairy fly!” she pulled her father out of the store.
The father just gave the employee a smile and wave before he’s led out by his daughter.
“Isn’t it nice seeing their little smiles? So bright and hopeful.” the old owner chuckled as she rearranged the toys on display.
“It is a great feeling.” he smiled.
He wondered how the father feels seeing his child happy, it must be a wonderful feeling .
Does he have a child of his own?
As he wrecked his mind for anything, he came up with nothing.
Looking at the golden band on his finger, he wonders yet again about the blonde woman who seemed etched in his mind.
“Ah, Zhongli, don’t you worry. My grandson is good with computers, I’m sure we’ll find her soon.” Granny Shan encouraged as she saw the look on his face again.
Zhongli forced out a smile, “Thank you, Granny Shan.”
It’s been a week since he awakened.
A week since it was explained that he ended up in a coma after being in a plane accident. Granny Shan had been his saviour, had taken him under her care, even transported his comatose body in this region when she moved to build another toy store. When asked why Granny Shan just gave a sad smile and talks about how he reminded her of her son whom she lost from an accident as well
Zhongli thinks she’s lucky to find an empty lot close to a preschool. He could imagine kids dragging their parents here when they’re let out.
Still, a week had gone by and still no memories coming back. All he knows is his name thanks to the ID he had on him, unfortunately, most of the information had been scratched off, or made unreadable thanks to being submerged in a puddle for too long before he was found, and the fact that he’s married because he has a ring on him. He could only assume the beautiful blonde woman is his wife, why else would he keep dreaming of coming back to her?
The lack of information on himself forced him to stay with Granny Shan. Choosing to help her after he recovered enough to do so while at the same time, doing all he can to remember.
While Granny Shan would contact her grandson and would receive a list of profiles, but none of them had been her.
Zhongli doesn’t blame him though, all he could offer him was her physical appearance, which is so hard to track down without any name to refer to. Not to mention her grandson isn’t even a part of a government organisation that would be able to get a hold of registered citizens, he was an IT, but the fact that he helps a stranger like Zhongli makes him a hero in Zhongli’s eyes.
And he wishes no further to burden them with his problems, but unfortunately, he can’t do anything but help around the toy store.
Though as much as he would like to come home, 5 years is a pretty long time.
How is she now?
Where is she now?
What is she doing now?
Upon finding out that he had been in a coma for five years, Zhongli vomited. It was a lot to take in and the fact that he can’t remember anything is very overwhelming and frustrating.
He was depressed for days, recovering and getting back on his feet just last night and asking Granny Shan if he could help because the blonde woman was encouraging him, asking him to come back to her.
She would sing sweetly for him, yet he can’t remember the lyrics as soon as he woke up.
Waking up without her had been torture for Zhongli so far, the need to be with her is growing stronger by the day, and he doesn’t know just how long he can wait until he breaks and go crazy chasing after a woman he doesn’t even know still exist.
His eyes widened at the thought, quickly shaking it off as he felt his heart race anxiously and his stomach churning badly.
Of course, she exists, why else would she keep asking him to come home?
His head began to ache, and it seemed it shows since Granny Shan is walking to him with a worried face, “Maybe it’s time for a break, yeah? Do you have a headache?”
Zhongli shook his head, “I’m fine don’t worry,” he smiled, “I should be fine if I drink-”
“I’ll make you some tea.”
“Please, I don’t want to bother-”
“Sonny, it’s fine, making tea should be easy for an old lady like me rather than having to man the cashier, don’t you think so? It’s almost noon, meaning kids might be filling the store soon.” Granny Shan explained with a smile, “Now just wait there, okay?”
Zhongli nodded in defeat, “Alright.”
Granny Shan then left to go to the back, where it functions as their home. It’s a decent size with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
The man busies himself with rechecking the toys displayed, making sure they’re properly placed that children can see them. He sweeps for a few, just waiting for the time to pass by. He may have started working today, but he could hear the commotion before when it reaches noon as the store is filled with customers. It made him feel bad thinking about leaving the old lady alone, but there was nothing he could do about it but work his best.
It soon struck 12 and as expected, the small preschool across the street had released their students. Zhongli straightened up, preparing to greet customers as he already saw some kids dragging their parents in their shop. He watched as some kids threw tantrums when their parents denied them, some making their way excitedly to his shop, there were already two little girls looking at the display. The blonde one with elven ears pointed at a little plushie resembled some kind of a rabbit inside a red bag, her red eyes sparkling as she talks to the other girl. Zhongli can’t help but smile at her friend’s reaction, her magenta eyes wide with fascination as she listens to her talk.
They then met eyes, Zhongli smiling brightly with a small wave, making the girl return the gesture with a wide smile.
He also waved at the little blonde girl who is now tugging at the older blonde guy they were with.
“Albedo-oniichan, let’s get it, please! Pleaaaseee!” he can hear her behind the window, “Klee has been very good! Klee didn’t get sent to the corner by Ms Jean! Please, please, please!”
The man Zhongli assumed as Albedo smiled softly, “Well since you didn’t cause trouble, let’s go.”
Klee squealed in excitement, and seemed like was about to invite her friend, but it looks like the purple-haired girl was looking at someone who Zhongli couldn’t see.
Zhongli assumed it was her parents or guardian picking her up since she waved goodbye to her friend. He was a bit taken back when she turned to him and waved goodbye to him as well, but he returned the gesture with a smile.
For some reason, he felt some sort of happiness for the little girl.
He didn’t get to think much of it since customers had started pouring inside.
~~~
Zhongli once again smiled at the little purple-haired girl when she passed by the shop again. It had been 4 days so far and they had always been waving at each other when they passed by.
“Does that girl not have a guardian with her? I don’t think I’ve seen her with an adult.” Zhongli hummed as he cleans the shelves.
“Hm? The purple-haired one? Ah, her mother works at the bakery a couple of blocks away, it’s a few minutes walk, 2 or 3 at most. She only needs to step out of the bakery and watch from there, so she’s completely safe.” Granny Shan explained, “They have great pastries, by the way, I brought one home earlier, seems like a new product of theirs, feel free to eat them, they’re in the fridge.”
“Ah, it’s nice that their workplace is close to her school.” Zhongli hummed, a sudden craving for pastries appeared, and a specific sort of flavour too.
Zhongli ignored the craving, not wanting to leave the old woman alone with cleaning.
“Quite an adorable family too, I met her husband as well, a protective father he is.” she chuckled.
Zhongli can’t help but wonder, if he has a child, what kind of father was he?
He hopes they’re doing well if he does have. What a shame it was that he suddenly disappeared from their lives.
A longing feeling blossomed in his chest again, oh how he would love to meet the blonde goddess in his dreams, how elated he will be to find out if she bore his child.
“Say, Granny Shan, weren’t you saying about giving me a salary?”
“Hm? Did you change your mind about not getting them?” Granny Shan hummed.
“No, but shall I use that to buy that big finch plushie?” Zhongli asked, remembering how the little girl’s eyes would look at the bird-shaped stuffed toy longingly.
Granny Shan smiled, knowing exactly what he’s thinking, “Of course.” she chuckled, “Have you grown attached to the little girl already? It hasn’t been long nor did you two ever talk. It’s a shame I forgot her name, my memory isn’t the best.”
Zhongli smiled embarrassingly, “I just feel a bit bad, she’s been eyeing the toy ever since. Though, I’m a bit worried what her parents would think.”
The old lady waved him off, “Don’t worry about that, just put on our card so they know it’s from here, they know me there and that I own this place.”
Zhongli's smile brightened, “Thank you!”
He can’t wait to make a kid’s day bright.
~~~
The very next day, Zhongli waited for the little girl to pass again, he doesn’t know why but he felt so excited.
Just like on routine, she passed by again, and instead of waving, Zhongli gestured for her to wait. She listened, having been familiar with the old lady who owned the store, that’s why her mother didn’t have to wait for her outside. Granny Shan had been the one watching over her since Zhongli had been doing most of the work inside the store.
She gasped when Zhongli showed her the toy she’d been eyeing her. She immediately hugged it when handed to her, Zhongli can’t help but be in awe at the appreciative gesture.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” she jumped, hugging the plushie half her size.
Granny Shan can’t help but smile at the interaction, oh how she wishes Zhongli would be able to find his home with his family.
“It’s no problem, little one. I hope you take good care of them.” Zhongli smiled.
“Qiqi will name him Mr Finch.” the girl said.
Qiqi
There was a sudden pain in Zhongli’s head, not wanting to scare the little girl, he hid the pain.
“Well, I’m glad Mr Finch is in capable hands.” he smiled through the pain.
“Qiqi can’t wait until Mama and Papa meet him! Thank you, Mr!” Qiqi said once again before she had to make her way to her mother’s bakery.
As soon as Qiqi is far enough, Zhongli releases a groan as he rubs his temples.
“Something wrong?” Granny Shan asked with worry as she followed Zhongli inside.
“It’s probably just the heat or something.” Zhongli reassured, “It should be fine after taking a break.”
Granny Shan nodded, “Well, the day should be slow now, go on and take a break. You can even walk outside? The fresh air should be good for you.” she smiled.
Zhongli nodded at the suggestion before going back to his room.
As he lay down on his bed, he can’t help but think about what had happened.
Qiqi
The name tugged something in his chest, but he just can’t understand what it is.
He took a deep breath to ease his headache, maybe he should go for a walk after a nap.

(AO3 link)
1.
Hiyori balancedher self as she stood on the electrical pole near Tenjin’s shrine, smilingsoftly at the colorful scene that awaited her. She hopped down, thankful thather ayakashi state was able to handle such extreme heights, and skipped intothe shrine, acknowledging one of the shinki that was sweeping in front of thearches.
“You’refinally here!” Yukine shouted, running towards her and quickly hid, using herskirt as a makeshift shield from Mayu and the others who were giggling andtrying to goad him back to join them. “They keep playing with my hair andone of them asked if they could get my autograph.”
“Butthat’s a good thing right?” Hiyori asked, patting his blonde hair,snorting at the tiny pigtails he wore. “Where’s Yato?“
“Idunno,” Yukine shrugged, stepping away from her and tried to pull theplastic rubber bands from his hair. “I think he was talking with Tenjin somewhereover there."
Thanking himquietly, she patted Yukine’s head one more time as she set off to find Yato in thegeneral direction he pointed at. She spotted Yato sitting down on a bench, the fullmoon illuminating the delicate profile of his face as he stared looking intothe night sky that was speckled with stars. She tightened her grip on the conveniencebag store she held, took a deep breath and called out to him.
"Lookwhat I got,” she crooned, holding the bag higher when she came into hisfield of vision. “Ah! You can’t eat it until you go back home.” Shescolded when Yato snatched it from her, nearly tearing the knot she made at thetop.
“Yesmom,” Yato complied, playfully rolling his eyes at her strict tone,fingers itching to open the bag and see what she got him. “What are youdoing here?"
"Icouldn’t sleep.”
Yato hummedand made space for her on the bench, waving off her thanks as she sat down. Hewent back to staring off in space, hands stuffed in his sweater and a frozensmile placed on his lips, as if to assure Hiyori nothing was wrong.
“I heardyou were talking to Tenjin,” she started, unsure of how to properly touchthe subject. “Was it…about your father?"
"Yup."
Hiyori shiftedat the blunt answer, sighing when Yato offered nothing else. She fixed thewrinkles on her skirt as she bit her lip at the untouchable aura around Yato.
"The…,”Hiyori paused and took a deep breath, bracing herself for whatever Yato had tosay afterwards. “The moon looks beautiful tonight.”
Yato facedher, one eyebrow lifted up inquisitively as he looked back up towards the sky,eyeing the full moon.
“Yeah, Iguess so.”
Hiyori blinkedrapidly and crossed her legs tightly, laughing at her own silliness and pointedtowards his shinki that was surrounded by females.
“Shouldn’tyou go save him?”
Yato followedher line of vision, gasping loudly as his hand clenched over his heart.“How dare they do that to my hafuri,” he shouted, lips turning into adevilish smirk. “Without me there to take pictures and commemorate the daymy precious Yukine was playing with his friends.”
With thatcringe worthy declaration, Yato sprinted off towards the circle of girls thatwere giggling and a grouchy Yukine that didn’t seem to be that upset at all.
“NatsumeSōseki right?"
She yelped atthe sudden question, her body finally giving in to her embarrassment as sheflushed pink, stammering her response towards Tenjin’s question.
"I’msurprised he didn’t get the reference,” Tenjin remarked, tapping his fanon his chin as he watched Yato bounce around Yukine, phone in hand and rapidlytaking photos. He chuckled softly, shaking his head at Hiyori and turned away,Tsuyu closely followed pausing as she turned around.
“Betterluck next time.”
“Ah…yes,thank you,” Hiyori stammered, forcing a smile towards the plum spirit whogave her a secretive one in return.
2.
“Hiyori!Psst! Hi-yo-riiiii!”
Hiyori cougheda little, sighing as she flung her hair off her shoulder, effectively whippingYato with it.
“Justleave her be,” Yukine scolded, sitting on the window ledge as Hiyorifuriously took notes. “Don’t do that! Yato!”
He groanedloudly as Yato went towards the front of the classroom, mocking the teacher andthen falling down as the man almost ran into him.
“Sorry‘bout this Hiyori,” Yukine apologized, scowling as Yato jumped from deskto desk, the students questioning as the why their desk suddenly wobbled.“He was getting annoying and I told him we could go see you if he behaved,but you know how he is.”
She acceptedhis apology; eyes still focused on the board, and wrote down on the edge of hernotes.
Tell Yato,if he doesn’t stop, I won’t see you guys for a week.
Yukineblanched and shouted at Yato, relaying her threat across the room. The godpaused mid jump, hopping back towards Hiyori’s desk and stood near her side.
It was quietfor about three minutes when Yato opened his mouth again.
“That’swrong.”
Hiyori inhaleddeeply, setting her pencil on the table and stood up, excusing herself to thebathroom.
“You!”She hissed as soon as they were alone in the corridor. “Why are youhere?!"
"I neededto check up on something,” Yato answered, shrugging, his eyes searchingthe school grounds outside the window. “Plus I missed you. I haven’t seenyou in three days!”
“You’renot a child Yato,” Hiyori said, rolling her eyes. “We can go a coupleof days without seeing each other."
"Yeahbut,” Yato trailed off, face hardening and suddenly his tone became aloof.“Fine I understand. Yukine come out, we’re going on a job.”
Hiyoriinternally groaned at the blank stare he gave her and felt bad because she alsomissed him, but it’s not like she could just say that.
Yukine poppedup from behind the corner, looking at both of them with a worried gaze. Hewalked up next to Yato, chewing on his bottom lip softly as his eyes pleadedwith Hiyori to make things right.
“I’m notgoing to forget about you ok?” Hiyori murmured, grabbing Yato by the armto prevent him from walking away. She figured his attitude had to do withsomething like that, but they’ve been going longer and longer without seeingeach other and she would be lying if she wasn’t scared she’d wake up one dayand forget everything. “It happened once and I won’t let it happenagain."
"Okay,”Yato said, shrugging and tried to pull his arm back.
“No,listen,” Hiyori demanded, getting closer to him, staring him down. “Ipromise that I won’t forget you. I won’t do that ever again. I won’t leave you,ever."
Yato knittedhis eyebrows together, looking down as he avoided her gaze.
"Youcan’t-” he hesitated, changing his mind halfway. He sighed deeply, puttingon a complacent smile as he pointed behind her. "You’re out of yourbody again.“
Hiyorishrieked at her sleeping body’s skirt that revealed her underwear, checking ifYukine saw, and if by the pink tinted cheeks and obvious interest in the spiderwebs on the ceiling, he did.
3.
Yukine’s futonwas carefully put away, he sheets folded nicely, and the lamp off to the side.Yato on the other hand, was still in bed. His sheets tangled up by his feet,mouth opened as he drooled, and shirt rising past his belly button, bodycompletely relaxed.
Hiyori carefullystepped over the sleeping body as she made her way to the window, opening it upto let out the stale air. The cool breeze felt nice as she looked around theattic. She was tempted to wake up Yato, it was one in the afternoon for godsake, hands busying themselves by picking up Yukine’s clothes when Yato groanedas sunlight shined on his face and moved to face away from the window.
“Did I wakeyou up?” She asked, placing the clothes in the wastebasket as she squatted nearYato’s back. “Are you still sleeping?”
She receivedno answer except for rhythmic breathing. She reached out to tap his shoulder,her hand freezing halfway, pulling it back to her side. She inhaled deeply, thescent of Yato especially strong early in the morning.
I like you.
She mouthedthe words again, giggling at her self-indulgent antics as she sat down on theedge of Yato’s futon.
“I like you.”The words easily rolled of her tongue. “I’m sorry. I like you. I really hope itdoesn’t rain today. I like you. I’m thinking of buying pizza for dinner. I likeyou. I’m actually pretty embarrassed right now. I like you. Oh god, what ifyou’re actually awake this whole time?”
“Hey…” She stopped;wiping her palms on her shorts, waiting for a response, nothing. “I love you.”
4.
Hiyori pushedback Yukine’s sweaty bangs as he dozed off on the floor of Kofuku’s livingroom, snickering at the way he scrunched his nose at the contact.
"Leave himalone,” Yato said, sitting against the wall, the fan only on him. “Hehasn’t been sleeping well this past week.”
“I wasn’tgoing to wake him.” She huffed, begrudgingly scooting further away fromYukine. “Do you want me to do it to you too?”
“Touch myhair?” Yato asked, laughing at the absurdity of it. “No thanks. I’msweating and smelly and it’s too hot for human contact."
"Howabout ayakashi contact?” She questioned, flicking her tail as she crawledtowards Yato. “And I won’t touch your hair…"
She giggleddeviously as she leaped forward her fingers expertly going up and down hissides as she tickled him.
"Godsdon’t get ticklish,” he huffed, squirming away from her fingers, lipstwitching as she became more serious. He grabbed her hands and held them,“didn’t I say it was too hot for human contact?”
Hiyori frownedand reluctantly withdrawal her hands, eyes widening when Yato attacked. Hisfingers subtly touched every ticklish spot she knew she had and tears sprungfrom her eyes as she held in her laughter.
“Wait,”she gasped, words barely forming through her peaks of laughter “Yukinewill wake up!”
“Oh?Calling quits are we?” Yato asked, waggling his brows as he increased hisrange of motion, poking at Hiyori’s sides with expert precision.
“Yesyes!” She shouted out, her stomach aching from laughing too much and herarms tired from trying to pull Yato’s hands away. After a couple of seconds toregain her composure, she pouted at him, eyes still holding their previousplayful demeanor. “I thought it was too hot for human contact?"
"But thatwas a god’s touch,” Yato replied, lips curling upwards at Hiyori’s tinyscowl. “Now that’ll be 5 yen for curing you of your boredom."
"What?”She sputtered, looking back towards to Yukine and made sure that he didn’t wakeup. “I didn’t make any sort of wish and speaking of wishes you stillhaven’t complied to my very first one and-”
“Who doyou think I am? I know everyone’s wishes, even the ones they don’t say.”
Hiyori pausedat that, knowing that was complete bullshit but still, this was a primeopportunity and she couldn’t let it go to waste. She checked on Yukine one lasttime to make sure he was still sleeping and leaned further into Yato’s personalspace.
“Oh? Sowhat kind of thing am I wishing for now?” She asked in a sultry voice,well she hoped it was sultry because all those nights staying up late watchingromance dramas with her friends had better pay off. She batted her eyes,praying that she didn’t look as silly as she felt.
Yato placedone hand on her shoulder, stopping her from coming any closer and her heartbeatloudly pulsing in her ears. Did he know? Was he aware of what she was doing?
He exhaledsoftly, giving Hiyori a fond smile, one that squeezed her heart and made herstomach flop.
“What areyou doing?” He wondered, his eyes sparking with curiosity but that affectionatesmile still painted on his lips. As his hand tightened on her shoulder, histhumb briefly touched the skin near her skirt’s neckline.
Hiyori heldher breath in anticipation, scared that if she said anything it’ll cause Yatoto revert to his overly dramatic self.
“Ithought you could sense one’s inner wish?” She cringed internally at theobvious avoidance of his question but continued on. “The God of Fortunecan’t even decipher a single girl’s wish?”
She smirked athim, giving him a challenging look, hoping that’d cause the competitive naturein him to arise.
Instead,Yato’s eyes widened fractionally before looking behind her, the tips of hisfingers digging into her shoulder. His smile tapered off, coming back in fullto present a wide, false grin, however she could see full the self-contempt andfaux confidence.
“Hiyori,”he chided, tsking softly as he completely backed away. “If that’s what youwanted, you could have told me.”
Blinkingrapidly at the tone of his voice, Hiyori knew that there was amisunderstanding. She opened her mouth to get them back on track, Yato quicklytalking over her, voice tinged with such finality, she froze.
“Youwanted the fan right? Of course you could have it.”
He laughedslightly, shaking his head and muttering something about silly high schoolgirls as he pushed up off the floor and walked over to Yukine. He tapped himsoftly with his foot, reminding him of a job they had to do later and walkedout of Kofuku’s living room.
Hiyoriswallowed the words that were threatening to spill out, fixing her bangs andclothing as she peeked behind her. Yukine gave her a piercing state, lookingaway when they made eye contact and slowly got up.
As he exitedthe room, his apology on the behalf of Yato echoed.
5.
Hiyori wipedat the sweat that bundled above her upper lip, chest heaving as she quicklyavoided another ayakashi.
“Behindyou!” Yato warned her as she quickly twisted her tail away from the limegreen creature. “Get out of here!"
"I’mtrying!” She yelled back, suddenly back into her old body. She quickly gotaway from the swarm of ayakashi, turning corners, unable to lose themcompletely. She jumped over a couple of trash cans, her human body aching forher to take a break, her foot catching on the corner of a wall, handsgrabbing the edge of it to stabilize herself and getting cuts from the sharp,uneven bricks.
Hissingloudly, she regained her footing, getting out of the alleyway and into a mainstreet, ignoring the way random pedestrians looked at her gasping self.
She turnedback and saw Yato slice the crowd that surrounded him, lime green andfluorescent blue creatures dissipating into oblivion.
“Goodwork there,” Yato complimented as he caught up with her, eyeing the wayher flushed cheeks were beginning to cool down. “Don’t forget to disinfectyour hands when you get home.”
“You,” Yukine reminded him, comfortablewith walking two steps behind the pair. "Don’t forget we have that jobthat Tenjin gave to us. Also your shirt is incredibly dirty Hiyori. Are yousure your parents won’t ask questions?”
“They’recoming home later than usual today,” she answered, looking back to seeYukine eyeballing some pastries from a window shop. “Are you hungry?”
“Yes-”
“Nope,”Yato interrupted, grabbing Yukine by the collar. “We gotta hurry up andfinish this job. But we’ll definitely take you up on the offer later.”
Hiyorifurrowed her brows in confusion because it was not like Yato to refuse food,free food at that. She waved goodbye at Yukine who was complaining as he wasdragged away.
She awokelater that night to a tapping noise on her window. She lay in her bed, staringat her wall, when the tapping began again.
Rolling aroundto face the nightstand, Hiyori reached out for her phone, no text messages ormissed calls, and saw that it was 3:42. She sniffed slightly, rubbing her feettogether as the tapping came to a stop.
“Hiyori,I know you can hear me,” Yato whispered loudly, tapping on her windowagain, but faster this time. “You’re awake! I just saw you check yourphone! Don’t ignore me!"
Hiyoriscoffed, rolling her eyes as she swung her legs over her bed, grabbing thecomforter as she wrapped it tightly against herself, stumbling to her window.
"What?"
"Is thathow you treat people who traveled such a long way to see you?"
Hiyori pursedher lips at Yato’s question as she unlocked the window and pushed it open, thecold breeze made her cheeks and tips of her ears sting.
"Where’s Yukine?”She asked, not finding the blond behind him nor next to him on the tree. Shescooted away from the window as he came over the sill and into her room.“And you didn’t answer my previous question. Why are you here?”
“But you didn’tasked that?”
Hiyori groanedin annoyance, going back to her bed, sitting on it as Yato leaned against herwall.
“We need totalk.”
She squinted hereyes through the darkness, trying to gauge what kind of expression he wasmaking, before nodding to his request.
“You,” hestarted, sucking air trough his teeth and exhaling noisily. “Sorry if I’m beingpresumptuous, I really don’t mean to be, honestly but…”
He trailed offand Hiyori felt sick to her stomach. She could feel herself breaking out incold sweat as the taste of stomach acid settled in the base of her throat.
“Do you havefeelings for me?”
His question cutthrough the night air as sharp and swift as Yukine’s blade cuts throughayakashi, which Hiyori found to be quite the ironic simile.
“Hmm, I wonder,”she faintly said, trying to play it off, but assuming from the way Yato’s eyesgleamed in the darkness, he wasn’t buying it. “Are you mad?”
“Why would Ibe?”
“You seem mad.”
“I’m not.”
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
Hiyori didn’tsay anything, looking down at her hands as she fiddled with her thumbs. Wellnow he knew but it was going to come out eventually right?
“Okay, well,”Yato drawled, tilting his head towards Hiyori after she didn’t respond for acouple of minutes. “That’s pretty much what I wanted to know. I’ll see youlater then. Goodnight Hiyori.”
She was notpouting, ok? Her lips just happened to jut out in disappointment that nothingbig happened. She sighed loudly and kicked the air, relieved that her secretwas finally out in the open and from what she took in from analyzing of Yato’s previousactions, it seemed like the feeling was mutual.
She laid in bed,smiling softly before squealing loudly, rolling around multiple times until shefell off, coming face to face with her human body looking absolutely pleaseddespite being passed out.
6.
Yato played witha bouncy ball he found underneath the kotatsu, throwing it against the livingroom wall despite Daikoku’s warnings. There was a loud commotion outside,sounded like some inhumane screeching from Kofuku and oh, was that Hiyori’svoice?
Yato bit hislips as he thought of all the reasons he shouldn’t be happy to see her, afterall, he was rejected.
“You!” Shehissed, her scarf wrapped haphazardly around her neck, her long strands tangledin it. Her cheeks were flushed and her teeth were showing as she scowled at thelazy god. “You are the worst!”
She threw herschool bag at Yato who expertly dogged it, confusion and fear written all overhis face.
“Whateverhappened, I didn’t do it! Wait no,” Yato backtracked, “I actually didn’t doanything recently, so why are you mad?”
“You’re thereason why!”
“Me?” Hescreeched incredulously, and if it were possible, there would be a mile longquestion marks and exclamation points following that word. “Put down thattable!”
Hiyori inhaleddeeply, setting the small coffee table to the side, and exhaled quietly.
“You haven’tseen me for a week and a two days.”
“I was busy withsome stuff in the heavens,” Yato told her, mapping our an escape plan in hismind if this got too serious. “And you had tests coming up so I thought you’dwant time alone.”
“But you didn’teven contact me.”
“Because…” Yatoblinked slowly trying to come up with a good excuse.
“I thought youwere ignoring me!”
Yato laughedsheepishly as he scratched the back of his neck avoiding Hiyori’s gaze.
“You were! Thisis just like when we first met! I can’t believe you!” Hiyori huffed and crossedher arms, her eyes sending death glares that pierced Yato’s soul. “I justthought it was bad timing but did this have to do with our talk?”
“Uhh…” Yato sideglanced at the nosey trio that was peeking from behind the screen door, eyeshungry for more gossip. “Yeah.”
“But why?”Hiyori continued mumbling so soft that even the group near her was giving offsigns that they didn’t hear. “I..you…this was supposed to be the first step!”
“To what?” Yatoasked, aware of Hiyori’s rising voice.
“Us dating!”
Yato slowlyclosed his eyes and opened them, looked around a bit, looked to the trio whohad various expressions, pinched himself and finally shouted.
“Dating?!”
Hiyori lookedshocked at the outburst, her eyebrows scrunching together in confusion. “Well…yeah…”Her voice seemed less confident then before, her shoulders that were rigid nowclosing in to make herself seem smaller. “I mean, my feelings reached youright?”
“That was socheesy Hiyori,” Kofuku said, her giggling being covered by Yukine’s hand.
“I mean, ugh,”she groaned loudly, her hand musing through her already messy hair. “You likeme right?”
“Yeah,” Yatomurmured, cheeks flushing with hot embarrassment as Kofuku leered at him andDaikoku choked on air. He didn’t dare to look at the judging stare that Yukinewas probably giving him.
“And I likeyou!”
“What?”
“What do youmean what? You asked me that in my room!”
“What?” It wasthe first time Yukine spoke, and Yato cringed at the interrogation that wassure to come.
“But you didn’tsay yes…” Yato grumbled, thinking back to that night. “You were so…aloof!”
“Because Ithought you knew,” Hiyori yelled exasperatedly, throwing her hands in the air.“Clearly I thought too highly off your deduction skills!”
“That hurts!”Yato said, pouting at Hiyori’s insult, fighting the edges of his lips fromcurling up. “Don’t try to get me distracted. You just said you liked me.”
She groanedloudly, turning to the trio who were staring at them with wide eyes and varioussmirks. “Can someone explain it, if not you’re gonna lose a table hereDaikoku.”
“She wants youto fuc-”
“Ahhh! She lovesya you idiot!” Daikoku interrupted, covering his goddess’s mouth and draggedher away form the scene.
“You know,” Yatoslowly said, letting his smile spread out on his face, Hiyori giving him anapprehensive look. “You could have just told me how you felt.”
Hiyori gave hima blank stare, her lips curling in contempt at the offhand comment. She tskedloudly and passed Yukine, patting him on the head as she left.
“Wait Hiyori!What did I do wrong? You can’t walk out! We just started dating!” He yelled,holding in the peals of laughter as Hiyori spun around her face bright red.
“Said who?!”
“Me!” Yatoignored the scoff coming from Yukine, and stuck his tongue at him, the hafurirolling his eyes playfully as he looked between the two with amusement.
“Well…I’mbreaking up with you!”
Yato gaspedloudly at that, scrambling up to his feet as he chased Hiyori through the yard.She dodged his sweaty hand as he tried to grab and hug her, pleading for hernot to break up with him through snorts of laughter at Hiyori’s affronted face.
When Hiyori leftto go get something to drink, Yato sat on the patio, watching as she panicked atsomething Kofuku said.
He closed hiseyes and bit his trembling lip. He was reminded of a quote someone told himlong ago, that everyone deserves happiness but he never truly believed it.
Yukine came upto the two girls, scowling at what they were saying trying to leave when Kofukugrabbed his collar, dragging him into their conversation.
He covered hisface, his fingers tips touching the ecstatic smile displayed on it.
He was happy. Hewas so fucking happy. Even after everything he did, even after meeting Yukineand Hiyori and doing everything he could to atone for his past sins, there wasstill a part of his that doubted he deserved happiness.
But the way Hiyori laughed at something Yukine said, the way she pouted at Kofuku’s comment, the way she bowed and thanked Daikoku when he told her something, the way she turned and radiantly smiled at him, that washappiness, and for all his hard work, for all the repenting he’d done, hedeserved every last bit of it.
