saturday, 22 march

today felt very short and brief. so i thought i would talk about my history with rhythm games and why i like them so so much !

tldr ;; i was struggling so much with everything and feeling like a failure. but rhythm games was that thing in my life that made me believe in myself. i will never forget playing phigros for the first time and feeling genuinely happy for getting a score i could be proud of.

storytime !

my first ever rhythm game was actually cytus. i loved it so much as a kid, back when it still had ads and everything was free. i would try to MM as many songs as i could. i also did the same thing with project diva on my psvita.

unfortunately, my older brother is an annoying gamer and gatekept me so i constantly pushed my love for those games aside thinking that i should work on games that he played, to try and impress him.

but around 14 i basically never saw him again so that was good lol. i slowly broke away from his opinions and got into chunithm and maimai briefly but i didn't consider it a hobby.

it wasn't until i was forced to come back to malaysia and, one day, i got an old ipad from my father. it had a crack in it and heated up really fast but i played phigros on it because i heard of it online briefly from the maimai community.

my entire world changed in that moment after the first 10 minutes. i felt so in love. i never aimed for specific high scores in maimai or chunithm. in a sense, i always just played vocaloid music because i liked the music only.

but then i played edm song after edm song. and i started trying to FC and i just felt such a spark when i tried and then actually got the FC. for the first time in my life, as i'm actively putting my heart and effort into something, i actually got a return that basically said "you did it, you worked hard for this."

for most of my life, if i tried hard i would honestly 99% of the time still fail anyway. especially, socially. so this felt so amazing. i played and played and time just flew by.

in august of this year, i will hit my 3 year anniversary with phigros and even though i have grown to love so many other rgs, phigros has a special place in my heart for helping me believe in myself and rekindling my love for rhythm games that i never even realised i had as a kid.

having rhythm games as that passion in my life really helped me. i feel so excited to play any and all rhythm games because i just feel so grateful that they exist.

my dream is to one day be fluent in over 50 rhythm games. i want to AP all the low levels !
