Author's Note: This was a request from an anon, and technically my request box is closed. However, I thought the idea they gave was cute and thought it wouldn't hurt to write a little something for Renjun. I feel like I don't write enough stories where the reader is comforting the member, rather than vice versa. And I know Renjun won't see this (thank God), but I truly believe he deserves the world and I sincerely hope he's getting the rest he needs for his physical and mental health. I hope those who are also struggling are taking care of themselves too. Thank you for reading ^ ^

When you noticed Renjun’s declining mental health and encouraged him to take a break, you didn’t think he’d actually listen to your advice. You were aware of the concerns and disheartenment that came after the company’s announcement about him not participating in upcoming activities. Despite your boyfriend’s evident disappointment over not performing with his members, you were grateful for his decision to prioritize his well-being.

Shortly after the announcement was made, you headed over to his dorm in hopes of lifting his spirits. When a physically and emotionally exhausted Renjun opened the door to you holding a Moomin plushie and a grocery bag of ingredients for hot pot, he never felt more loved. Not a second was wasted before he was pulling you into a tight embrace.

“Thank you for being here with me,” he murmured, prompting a small smile to grace your lips.

Returning his hug, you rested your chin on his shoulder. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

For the first time in a while, the two of you enjoyed a quiet evening where you ate good food and caught up on your lives. After dinner, Renjun pulled you into his room for some much-needed cuddles. Nestled in his bed, you let him be the small spoon as he shared what had been troubling him lately.

“I wish I could take all your pain away,” you said quietly, subconsciously tracing the contours of his face.

The boy’s eyes glimmered with appreciation, and he relaxed under your touch. “Even if you could, I wouldn’t let you.”

Your lips parted to rebut his words but were stopped by a warm pair of lips pressing against yours. With widened eyes, you saw Renjun’s endearing expression after he pulled away. 

“You’re all I need,” he whispered, before leaning in once more.

Admittedly, you thought the second kiss would be the last for the night. But Renjun didn’t stop this time, catching you a little off guard. Even though after a year of dating, intimacy had not been extensively explored in your relationship. Mainly because the both of you had boundaries and wanted to respect them, but this…this kiss seemed to stretch on and on, and you didn’t hate it.

His lips moved slowly against yours, as his fingers traced feather-light patterns along your jawline. With gentle pressure, he tilted your chin upward for a better angle to deepen the kiss. Eventually, you stopped letting your thoughts distract you and gradually allowed yourself to surrender to the moment. Your hands found their way to his back, pulling him closer as you kissed back in hopes of conveying all the comfort you wanted to give him. 

It was enticing, losing yourself in this shared intimacy. Then when you finally parted for air, you noticed the glisten of tears in Renjun’s eyes.

“I love you,” he whispered against your lips, “so very much.”

You smiled, feeling your eyes get glossy as well. “I love you too, Jun.”

He embraced you once more, holding you closer than ever. It was at this moment when you silently promised to stay by Renjun’s side forever. 

If you were all he needed, then you were willing to give everything.

heyyy so good to hear from you! I think you're right! Right now, I'm playing Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, which is a glorious bit of ACAB lo-fi ecoterrorism.

I'm actually not a big gamer, like at all. I don't own a console but I have a Steam account where I occasionally buy a game (and often never finish).

I've poked a little into Undertale, Deponia, Hollow Knight, and small titles like Never Alone and My Memory of Us. I also bought the Attack on Titan game but never got around to fixing the Parallels on my Mac to get the Windows to play it.

But my favorite games are often on mobile, since that's where I play most often. I've played through a good amount of Life is Strange. I love the vibes, and I'm a fan of the characters too. But I never have enough commitment to finish the game in a reasonable amount of time where I can still remember all the characters/plotlines LOL. But I know the spoiler ending though! Since Hajime Isayama is a big fujoshi and patterned the Erwin/Levi ending partly on Max and Chloe. 🤩

I played completely through Oxenfree. This one was the perfect blend of story and puzzle, and I love how choosing dialogue lines played the actors' voices, like I was watching a show!

For downtime on mobile, I've dabbled in the past years in the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery game, a stretch through FIFA Mobile, Genshin Impact, and now to even-less intense Merge games.

But like I mentioned up top, I fully intend to finish Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley! It's such a chill, nature-filled game that feels exactly like my favorite iteration of the Moomins franchise, the 1990s animated series. The track by Sigur Rós showed up on my Spotify Discover a few months ago and that's how I found out about the game––and, incidentally, got me interested in finally finding out what these Moomins were. And I'm so glad I did. There are few fandom franchises so passionately introverted, animistic/pagan, politically anarchic and anti-capitalist (especially the character of Snufkin), while also being so chill, peaceful, queer, and emotionally intelligent.

I know I'm like 5 years late to the major Moomin rush on Tumblr but hey, what can I do LOL

Oh gosh thank you so much anon!! Don't you just love when the imagination just refuses to ask before taking the reigns? I have a special love for southern goth and western influence, and I know very well that I'm not the first to come up with a western Moomin au (ex. @sunburnedsnufkin's Pistolero au is chef's kiss!), but it's such a fun concept and now that I've taken a dive into '72 moomins I have a better understanding where the cowboy Snufkin comes from and it rules!

I haven't seen the 1990s cowboy episode with Billy the Kid yet, but I have read the comic Moomin Goes Wild West! I own Tove's complete comic collection, so I'll have to go back and look at it as it's been a minute.

Filifjonka (Moomin series, Tove Jansson). While there are a lot of characters in this series I share attitudes with, I especially identify with this one. The Filifjonka is tidy, cares about family while not being very gregarious by nature, is frequently nervous to the point of totally panicked, but always manages to regain her ground. Then again she’s unexpectedly brave and rebellious or freaks everyone out by saying overly dramatic things (”When will our execution take place?”) In the end she learns to play the mouth-organ, to become a little more like Mumrik, whom I also admire.

Thursday Next (The Eyre Affair (and sequels) Jasper Fforde): Okay, maybe it’s not the character alone, but this is the most brilliant work of (meta) fiction I ever read. I appreciate that Thursday, as the protagonist of a fantasy novel, is over thirty, and I like her matter-of-fact way to deal with the most surreal of situations. As the first person narrator she doesn’t get kitschy or sentimental about her own feelings, and never loses her sense of humour. The whole book manages to be the most hilarious of Jabberwocky and deeply touching at the same time.

Andrej Bolkonsky (War and Peace, Leo Tolstoi): Even at dying he was better than other people! I also relate to the feeling when you’d love to speak to someone on eye-level, but everyone around you is more interested in meaningless small-talk. He did an interesting thing in my head. At the beginning of the novel I imagined him a light blonde, but the more he realized there was no place for him in this world, the darker-haired he grew. Also: That feeling when you’re heartbroken about a book, but nobody understands how you could read War and Peace in the first place. In 2018 I felt that as an expert on the Napoleonic times I ought to tackle it. My mother had bought our copy in order to disapprove of it. I read past her bookmark from 1982. Actually I was surprised how many characters’ storylines, outside the Rostov-Bolkonsky connection, just ran into nowhere. This wouldn’t have happened with Victor Hugo!

Gösta Berling (Gösta Berling, Selma Lagerlöff): Most things he does end in disaster, but in such an incredibly aesthetic way, it’s a delight to read. Also no amount of tragedy stops him from being the coolest historical guy in Sweden.

Desirée Clary / Bernadotte (Desirée, Annemarie Selinko): Again, this is generally one of my favourite books. It follows the (somewhat fictionalized) biography of the first Bernadotte Queen of Sweden and her entanglements with Napoleon Bonaparte. In the course of the novel she goes from a silly teenager to a world-wise adult to a slightly patronizing middle-aged lady, while always staying true to herself. The transition is almost imperceptible. She also speaks the author’s charming Austrian German :)

Leslie May (Rivers of London series, Ben Aaronovitch): My role-model on how to maintain dignity and self-respect in the event of ones face falling off. (This mainly refers to volume 1-3. In volume 4 she changes sides and rarely appears any more. I quit reading it when I realized the series wasn’t working towards a conclusion.)

Walter Blythe (Anne of Green Gables series, Lucy Maud Montgomery): I am rather a fan of the later volumes of Anne actually. Not to say anything about his story being truly heartbreaking, he’s a great example of how to build up a tragic hero while still letting him be a kid. In general I’m deeply fascinated with how the World Wars impacted serial literature for young girls. If I had stayed with history of literature, I would have done research about this.

Alm-Öhi (Heidi, Johann Spiry): Admittedly, as a child I identified more with Heidi herself, but I was always in awe of her grandfather. He reminded me a little bit of my own grandfather. He’s self-reliant and can do anything that needs to be done in their little world. He cares about his family while not being a gregarious person at all. When I was five years old myself, I thought he had lost his son a lifetime ago - but in fact it was less than five years. When I grew older and became a historian I also started noticing his occasional references to his past as a soldier.

Now, about those questions:

It depends on which Stinky we're talking about, to be honest. Tho I'm gonna make a wild assumption and say that you were thinking of 90' Stinky. Now impish creature or not.. Shaun isn't amused. IT DOESN'T MEAN HE DISLIKES HIM THOUGH! Naturally, pranks and other harmless things are okay in his book, but if Stinky goes over the line (which might lead to the possibility of others getting hurt/wronged) he will shut that down immediately.

Hmmmmm... Oof, it's pretty hard to say! Ever since the whole Imp fiasco, he was avoiding creating close bonds with others, not wanting to make the same mistake twice. But like.. It's not all that?? With him being an age-vise immortal magical creature who is still hunted, and Sniff living a safe and normal life, but being a mortal, Shaun doesn't want to risk the emotional shit show losing the other would be. So he TRIED to be casual about it! Trying to not get too close. But in the end, he watches over Sniff, asks about his day, tells him stories, gives him advice, comforts him, teaches him things, etc- They ARE close. But he will never call the rat boi his little brother. (Frickin coward-)

Honestly, I don't think I will make it anyone specific! I really wanted to pick a canon, already existing Moomin character, but we just don't have many powerful peeps for it. Like WHO would be good for this role? At first I wanted to pick the Hobgoblin but then I thought "But why would he..?" and threw the idea away. He lost his FREE USAGE of his powers because of his connection with the Imp. Because of the BOND. (Bonds are very important part of my imp lore). Their bond meant becoming strong together. If one of them dies or in the Imp's case, get imprisoned, the other one suffers too. This just means he has to store/create/consume energy in order to use his other abilities.

Yes, but he didn't accomplish anything with it. Since the tree was thrown into the sea (and it's been a while too), it could be anywhere for all he knows.

No, he never did, wouldn't be able to, but COULD. Wouldn't even need his other abilities for that. It's just not something he would do, you know? Even if he was extremely furious, even if he deems it deserved, he would catch himself. He doesn't want to prove his brother's point.
