Hey I saw your tags on the scalp care ask - what hair products to you recommend (from shampoo and conditioner to hair serums/creams)?

hi hi friend!!! sorry it’s taken me a while to answer!

sooooooo this comes with the caveat that everyone’s hair is different and mine specifically is very very fine and high porosity, so it’s like MASSIVELY THIRSTY all the time but if I so much as think of the words “shea butter” it turns into a greasy mess. I try products with that in mind. BUT. that said, here are lines that I’ve liked or know for a fact are really goo bc I’ve used them while doing someone else’s hair!

Shampoo:

Maui Moisture, any color/scent (I personally lovvvve the Hibiscus smell lol.)

Not Your Mother’s Naturals (so good. so nice. so many scents, go crazy)

Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk (even though it doesn’t have sulfates, it lathers really well and I like that. It dries my hair out a little before I put conditioner on, but it gives a good clean! smells kind of like raspberry tea??)

Conditioner:

Tresemme Botanique coconut and aloe (thicker consistency but still very good slip. this stuff is SO cheap compared to everything else and yet does a great job and lasts a nice long time? I get it all the time from Walmart bc I’m #broke and don’t have to be stressed about Actually Using Enough instead of skimping)

V05 conditioners (this is the true broke conditioner, but they don’t have silicones!!! careful not to use the shampoos unless you want godawful dried out hair, but the conditioners are usually safe. especially the strawberry one, love it)

Not Your Mother’s Naturals (again. i love the pink and blue most, but that’s bc of the smell lol. These conditioners have GREAT slip, fairly runny) (EDIT: the Curl Talk conditioner from them is REALLY REALLY thick and the pump top often doesn’t work well. the Naturals conditioners are all fine though)

Maui Moisture (again lol. I don’t like the conditioner quite as much as Tresemme but it’s a good substitute if Walmart is out)

Pacifica Pineapple Curls (I. cannot stand the smell. It makes me want to puke. But everyone else loves it and it does work well!!! Their whole pineapple curls line is nice tbh)

Curl Creams: 

DevaCurl Wavemaker (got half a tube free from someone, it’s EXPENSIVE, keep that in mind. can be a holy grail product for a lot of people. my hair doesn't like it but many many wavy girls’ do, and it smells rad. DON’T USE MUCH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD it’ll make your hair stringy. a little goes a long way. Apply to hair that’s plenty wet!!!!! not sopping but still slowly dripping)

Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk cream (oh my god. my hair LOVES this stuff it would eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner. magical for my fine and hella thirsty hair. i love the smell too. apply to wet but not sopping hair. It’s not heavy, so don’t be afraid to use a little more if it doesn’t seem to do much the first time you use it. Walmart and CVS sometimes have BOGO sales on it!)

Miss Jessie’s Multicultural Curls (okay, careful, this stuff has silicones in it so they'll build up on your hair over time, but I like the smell and it’s pretty good for a lot of hair types if you just want a nice curl cream. more runny than Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk. USE SPARINGLY a little goes a LONG way)

Cantu Curl Activator (this stuff is magic in like, everyone’s hair but mine. nice and CHEAP. don’t use too much, goes a long way. Better for coarser hair.)

Gels: 

LA Looks Sport or Extreme Sport (this stuff is the cheapest and I love it but if you have fine hair it might be hard to use. If your hair is really thin and fine, use as much gel as you want but you gotta put it in hair that’s SOPPING wet. then squeeze out as much water and gel as you can, and dry the rest of the way. then scrunch out the crunchiness when your hair is all the way dry.)

Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls (this stuff is EXPENSIVE but magic for sofffffffft bouncy hair. however if you have looser curl patterns it’s not gonna give you much hold and they WILL fall over the course of the day)

Miss Jessie’s Jelly Soft Curls (love this stuff, my hair feels so fun with it. 5 bucks cheaper than Pillow Soft but still expensive. hold isn’t strong, so don’t expect curls to last all day with this either. It smells like Downy fabric softener though, so I have bought one (1) tube that I use once or twice a month on Self Care Days lol because the smell is magic for me)

DevaCurl Ultra Hold Gel (fam. fam. this took my hair from curls that turn into waves after 1 hr of being dry to BOOM YOU HAVE CURLY HAIR. It smells AMAZINGLY fruity and has FANTASTIC hold when you figure out how to use it right, but is also AMAZINGLY expensive so wait till Ulta or something has a liter bottle sale going on and then spring for it. I SAVE UP TO BUY THIS IT IS WORTH IT for me at least. Apply to hair that’s plenty wet still, like dripping slowly, then squish out as much water as possible)

Herbal Essences Totally Twisted gel (not as good as DevaCurl but NICE AND CHEAP. it’s pretty darn tootin good for the cheap price, better than LA Looks for my hair. Slightly stronger hold than Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk gel)

Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk gel (love the smell, but hold is a little weak for my fine hair with big loose bouncy curls. this is my backup for if I’m out of other stuff. if you have tighter curl patterns, or if you just want something to keep some definition in your wavy hair and aren’t worried about curls falling out, this is nice!)

Oils:

the only oil i’ve ever used is Jojoba oil from Sally Beauty, the little brown-ish bottle. I put a few drops on a hand, rub my hands together, and THEN scrunch the gel crunchiness out of my hair, bc it makes my hair less frizzy and more soft and shiny looking. haven’t tried coconut or olive oil yet but they’re supposed to be great too

Alrighty, you two are smol bean who want to giggle, love, and spread love around the world. And by the way, Taehyung would be completely head over heels for you, so keep that in mind. I’m not saying he would be that guy that would circle his life ENITRELY around you, but you are a big part in his life, so you are in top priorities. In this ship, I think Taehyung would be drawn to you almost instantly. If looks could kill, imagine what happens to him when he learns more about you. Taehyung would admire your short hair, let’s just put that out there to the world. He would love to play with your hair, twirling the little strands in his fingers, and you also look really good with short hair, so, he can’t resist. Taehyung would also love that you’re super personable, humble, and down to earth as well. I think your humbleness would be Taehyung’s favorite thing about you. There’s something about when a person is humble that makes them so irresistible and Taehyung is our humble king, so like yeah, he needs a queen(or king if you identify differently) sooooooo… (: Moving right along, Taehyung would be the best boyfriend ever. NCT: Yuta 

The world is your oyster. That was the first thing I thought of when I made this ship decision. You and Yuta would have the best friend lover sort of love and you’re both spontaneous and enjoy life in the moment. I wanna emphasize spontaneous because you two get and go and you two are very much in love, so buckle up. Also, just because Yuta is very mischievous and stubborn- don’ t let that fool you. Yuta would be a needy boyfriend. He’d enjoy having you around, knowing you’re close, it’d help him stay calm. And Yuta is also not afraid to show that he is needy for you. It doesn’t matter if he’s voicing his need to you in front of the boys or on a V-Live to the fans, if he misses you, he’ll be like ‘yeAAAHHH, I miss Y/n.’ You would also serve as his rock as well. I really like to think you’re down to earth and chill, and that’s what Yuta would need. He would also need someone who’s understanding and a good listener, and you fit that description perfectly. Yuta would always have a safe place to go to and he’s extremely soft when he’s around you. He would have the cute little habit of asking you questions like ‘you still love me right?’ or ‘where do you see ourselves in the future?’ and he also likes to share his grievances when it comes to work. He always asks you if he can vent though, but like, of course you will listen to him. Moving right along, when you and Yuta aren’t soft and cozy at home, you two are wilder than bucks. You would always tag along with Yuta when he would go out with the boys, and sometimes you would even get to travel with them. You love going because you get to see your love do what he loves, and you also get loads of inspiration from the places you go and you’re nearly in a state of euphoria every time you travel. And keep in mind, you’re gonna have Yuta wanting you to participate in activities with the boys, and of course sometimes the boys want you on their team against Yuta. You don’t mind it, a good game of friendly competition, right? I just thought of a cute concept: you two and cartoons. I’m very sure that Yuta would always want you to watch cartoons with him. It would be a cute little tradition/date night thing where you two get some food and snuggle up maybe sometimes making a blanket fort and you binge cartoons. Another thing I can see you two doing is when Yuta is home resting, he’s asleep in your lap and you’re reading a book playing with this hair. PDA is also very needy. His favorite thing to do is give you back hugs, back hugs for days. Super soft hand holding with his thumb rubbing yours, and forehead pecks. WOWO THIS GOT SUEPR SOFT I’M DED.

Stray Kids: Minho 

Oki doki, here we are, in my very first Stray Kids ship, I hope I do them justice. Okay so, you and Minho are super soft cat parents and I am deceased because of it. To the public eye, you two are sort of shy and a quiet couple, but in reality, you and Minho are happy go lucky babes who are giggle and goofy. Straight up, Minho would be your saving grace. If you ever need any sort of pick me up, I can grantee you that Minho will save the day. Whether you are sad, or mad, or frustrating about something, you can count on Minho to do something cute and goofy and you’ll be smiling from ear to ear, not knowing what you were upset about five seconds ago. I can also see Minho bringing out your more extroverted side, so if you two are in public, don't be surprised if you two do something goofy and you’re trending on Instagram for being #couplegoals. You two would go out a lot, sometimes for date nights, most of the time not, and you two love to go out and have an adventure. You two would shop a lot, Minho getting kitty toys for the babies and you get to pamper yourself, although it’s normally Minho doing the pampering. You two get matching outfits sometimes too. The outfits are never identical, but the color ways would be similar and the outfits would compliment each other and you’d look super cute. Again, you two just have that much power that if you wore matching outfits, the internet would lose its shit. Moving right along, you and Minho both have your share of staying in at home. He’s got the three little babies at home he has to take care of, and since he’s super busy with Stray Kids, he would take every opportunity to spend time with his babies as much as he can. You love seeing him with his babies, it’s a softer side of Minho we don’t get to see enough. So like, we count on you to give us that soft content, hah. Playing around with video games is also a must as well, again, friendly competition is always cute and fun. FOOD. DATE NIGHT AND FOOD. LISTEN. Grocery store adventures are one thing, and the main entrée hah, get it?: the cooking process is even more fun. Recipe testing is also a MUST MUST MUST. Sometimes when the recipe fails, you two end up having more fun and more laughs. Sometimes there is a grease fire-- but no blood no foul. But of course you two would find some holy grails and you’d make some bombass foods for dinner/date night. And we can’t forget Jisung- he’s almost your worst enemy. You two lowkey bicker over how much bff and S/o time Minho should get, and Minho just lays back on the couch and chuckles bc you two get so frustrated so easy with each other. Lastly PDA, soft and clingy, both giving and receiving. You both enjoy a lot of hand holding, you like for him to hug you constantly, and he loves to whine and get as many kisses from you as he can. (:

So there I was in Surrey (long story, don’t ask!), driving along when out of nowhere I saw the holy grail…A British Shop! Technically it is called Sherlock’s The British Store, their website is http://www.TheBritishStore.ca I haven’t checked out the website yet but trust me, I will!

I immediately pulled in to their cramped little parking lot and started the inner pleading of “cheese and onion pie, please have a cheese and onion pie, don’t get your hopes up they’ll have a cheese and onion pie, oh pleeeeease have a cheese and onion pie”

Then the pleading stopped because I entered the shop and it smelled heavenly. Fresh baking. I love the smell of fresh baking. Mmm!

Not only did it smell amazing I was staring at all the yummy treats my cousins in England take for granted and I miss oh so much. I basically ignored the section with magazines, paper weights, and the like and focused solely on the food lol Priorities! 😉

I mostly just wandered, trying to prolong the possible devastating news that they don’t have cheese and onion pies but eventually I had to wander my way over to the bakery counter and what do you know, they had cheese and onion pies! *happy dance*

There were three in the display case and not many people in the shop so I felt it was safe enough to keep wandering and guess what I found? Frozen cheese and onion pies! Which seems a practical purchase to me, after all, shouldn’t one at all times have a cheese and onion pie in the freezer as an emergency meal? Yup, they should. I knew you’d agree.

Grabbed a frozen cheese and onion pie, started my way back to the bakery area and saw this…

It had a sign with it’s name, which I have forgotten, but I think it is called a Bakewell Tart? At least that is what my internet sleuthing is telling me, though I don’t know if I feel that is correct…

Regardless of the name of it I was positive it was something I liked, even though if asked I wouldn’t have been able to describe the flavour or texture of it to save my life. For purely scientific reasons, to make sure I was correct in thinking I liked it, that tart came home with me.

For science people!

The science proved conclusively that my memory is right and it was sooooooo good. Mmm! It tastes like almond, and has a cake type texture in the middle. I could have done without that weird cherry on top but whatcha gonna do? Maybe I’ll remember to pick it off next time. If there ever is a next time, Surrey isn’t exactly next door…which I want to be sad about but it is probably safer for both my wallet and waistline that this shop is far away from me lol
