I have made the horrible discovery that I can not make trades in Pokemon Go from far away

okay like one or two people said sure so here we go!

sephirah + roland / angela / ayin / carmen pokemon teams and my reasoning for them under the cut~

Malkuth

The first two are pretty easy-- Vespiquen for Queen Bee, and Bewear for Happy Teddy; for the first two of the Sephirah's Pokemon I tried to lean into the Abnos on their Library floors. I made Bewear shiny because the color fits Malkuth's color scheme better. As for Pikachu, that one's based off Malkuth herself. She seems like a very Electric type personality, and Pikachu seems just as cute and excitable and energetic enough to fit her.

Yesod

Klinklang could be good for both Singing Machine and Helper, and Inteleon is for Der Freischutz. And Seviper...well, we all know Yesod's nickname. I thought about Ekans or Arbok for a moment, but honestly Seviper feels like the better choice when it comes to snake Pokemon. Heck, it even has viper in its name!

Hod

Ariados for Spider Bud and Swanna for Black Swan (god that its shiny isn't black is a crime). Hod seems very Fairy type, and Mimikyu, the sweet little guy hiding a lot of darkness that just wants to be liked and seen as something helpful and lovable...it really fits her.

Netzach

This one was...pretty tricky, I can't lie. Bellossom is Porccubus, while the red Florges is Alriune. And though for his personal Pokemon I'd initially thought of Smeargle, Grafaiai has that Poison type and the slightly different take on 'art' that really suits Netzach that much better.

Tiphereth

This one was one of the first ones I'd thought of, honestly. Sylveon for Queen of Hatred, Absol for Knight of Despair, and Plusle is hers, and Minun...well, Minun was Enoch's. I knew she had to have a matching set with her brother, and giving his to her in Ruina era just hits somewhere real good doesn't it?

Gebura

Mightyena for Big Bad Wolf, and Zangoose, our scarred little bitch of a mongoose-cat with a grudge for Red Hood. And her personal pokemon was really, really, REALLY hard because I knew it had to be red bc in this hypothetical I can't imagine Color Fixers not having a signature that matches their color. It took me about three scrolls through the red Pokemon before I settled on Bisharp due to sharp and pointy, but if y'all can think of a red Pokemon that works better (I am not good at recalling red shinies), hit me.

Chesed

Golurk for Tin Woodsman, Cacturne for Scarecrow, and is anyone surprised that I went with Milotic the beautiful fancy water type for his personal Pokemon? It works perfectly for him vibes and aesthetic wise and I can see it being Daniel's partner even before all this shit happened. Sadge that there's no coffee Pokemon honestly, I'd have gone with that.

Hokma

Shiny Spiritomb looks a lot like Blue Star, and shiny Trevenant is closer than regular to Burrowing Heaven! And there were a few really good depressing choices for Hokma's signature, but Houndstone, the dog that is so fucking loyal it literally came back from the dead to be with its master, kinda....yeah. No notes.

Binah

Rookidee for Punishing Bird and Bombirdier for Judgement Bird. I tried, okay, the bird trio were a bit hard to get perfect matches for. Anyway, is anyone really surprised Binah's signature is Polteageist? You would think it'd be something scarier but no. Sips tea. She doesn't need it to look scary for it to be scary.

Angela

Rotom the tech ghost and Porygon Z the corrupted data Pokemon, those fit her very well. And the shiny Eevee to represent her endless potential as an AI, shiny to fit her color scheming a bit more and emphasize how special she is, and for one other reason you will see in a little bit.

Roland

Houndour is Roland's OH YEAH I'M TOTALLY JUST A WASHED UP GRADE 9 FIXER YEP TOTALLY Pokemon, while Zoroark is his actual Black Silence level ace, with its illusions like that cogition filter. The Shiny Aegislash was Angelica's, also shiny for Black Silence reasons, and uhhhh...well. I don't think dead wife guy needs to explain the Yamask. Beyond the mask part. Haha.

Ayin

And here is where I explain why Angela has an Eevee! Ayin's original partner Pokemon was an Eevee, jazz hands at the parallels. It evolved during the timeloops due to being Ayin's only companion, and Umbreon fits the darkness and also has the Big Bird colors for that extra symbolism that I love so much. Cosmog....he needed a legendary, and the cosmic galaxy Pokemon that could evolve into either the sun or the moon and is heavily tied to alchemy themes and light (see: Necrozma)...it fits best, at least I think so.

Carmen

So yeah, the emotion-reading Pokemon that is all sweet and cute and elegant and nice but will beat your ass if it doesn't like your vibes? Pretty Carmen if you ask me, though I might be a tiny bit biased. As for her legendary, what better than the Pokemon that can grant your wishes? That's what she'd like to do, after all, make everyone's dreams come true...bonus for the star symbolism.

Not sure if anyone's asked you before, but could you assign all the Milgram characters to Pokemon?

(I want to add some parameters to make it harder, but maybe another day.)

I've ran a poll before for Amane (Skitty Won, best PMD starter in Rescue Team-Explorers lets go-) for the rest Im not super sure. I'll try my best for the ones I can think of though.

(I'd also like to mention that in my head, Amane has a hidden Evolite that she feels Really Guilty about Having but it's also like- the reason why she doesn't get knocked out easily by her parents so she keeps it.)

-It feels Obvious to make Muu a Combee but I don't think it fits, I think in terms of Aesthetics, Cutifly/Ribombee fit more with what Muu tries to Portray Herself as. Maybe also mons like Floette which feel sort of delicate and easily harmed. I think it's important for Muu to have that sort of Image. (Maybe also Mawile then for the deception thing?)

I'd like to mention when going on buldapedia, it turns out that for the Blue Flower Florgess specifically, the Scarlet entry states that:

Though usually compassionate, Florges will hunt down anyone who vandalizes its flower garden, showing no mercy even if they beg for their lives.

Which is terrifying, I'm glad their leaning into the cute but dangerous fairy type image.

-I feel like Mahiru just makes Sense as a Bewear, like, it just fits, the sword entry for Bewear is:

Once it accepts you as a friend, it tries to show its affection with a hug. Letting it do that is dangerous—it could easily shatter your bones.

Like- yeah, that just feels Very Mahiru of it.

-I saw someone make Kazui a Zoura/Zoroark. I don't remember Who but their right so um- yeah that's a Kazui.

-I was going to say Lucario as a Joke for Kotoko, cause its like- the easy fighting wolf answer but NO that actually makes sense. Lucario has a whole thing about being able to sense the "inherent" justice and righteousness of a person. Kotoko Lucario just fits well with that whole thing. Like a Lucario that searches for people that are "righteousness" and then beats people up who doesn't meet it's standard- very Kotoko I think.

Hm I'm not sure who else....Idk that's my picks, I think if you PMD-ified Milgram it would be "You all are Horrible People go to therapy" *punts them into PMD*

"Is it just me or are our Florges kinda hitting it off?" -Blue

          "...No, no. I see what you mean. I think they are?"

     Well, this is certainly a pleasant surprise. When the heroine had suggested to take him to one of her Florges' gardens— purely to support the idea that the species possess a signature of sorts—, and Blue had brought along one of his own, she truly thought all hell would break loose. A battle for the ages, of light and terrifying energy accented by scattered petals. After all, it already took much convincing from the blonde, to persuade Acacia into letting another person still somewhat unknown to her wander through one freely. And while his was meant with that characteristic severe apprehension from Serena's, the other fairy-type was neither shooed away nor scared off.

     No, instead, it appears that she is almost guiding her around the territory. Pointing out flora not unlike a proud mother showing off a photo of their child. Light, and almost carefree. Even if the occasional, knife-like sideye shoots itself in the blue one's direction when she wanders a little too near blossoming flowers.

          "I'm not complaining, though. I have heard Florges usually are unlikely to get along with one another. It's, um..."

     She stops, a frown of thought slipping down onto the woman's features. A hand lifts, rotating at the wrist as though the action might manually flick through her mind and land on the right answer.

          "—Territorial? Not wanting their gardens to be taken over and lose a power source."

     Her focus shifts, affixing themselves back on the two Florges in question. This is very much unlike her. Had the other been a Floette, or even a Flabébé, Serena would understand— she does take many under her wing, letting them find sanctuary in her domains.

          "Acacia's gardens don't tend to have many blue flowers, and she keeps a very close eye on what's there. If there are new ones and she doesn't destroy them, I think it's safe to say they get along. We can check later, if you'd like?"

Andrew "Randi" Moy, or just Randi (PART IV)

My main oc.

they're the head of the ranger department in Rhegaia and in the game concept they replace the usual professor figure

their nickname actually came from "ranger + andi"

they're the current Fairy-Type specialist and Gym Leader of Lumina (or Town of Spirits)

not to be confused with Ortuem, which is known as the Town of Souls (they're actually the cousin of the gym leader here)

their lore is so full of spoilers so I'll say the ones that might not tip them off

they were taught medicine by their parents (oh yes a complete set) and became a full medic at 16, before going off to the world at 20 and being hired by various field research teams

they became a ranger at 18 so that was two years of experience before they left their region

they know a handful of languages and cultural customs in the process, and value knowing thoroughly about a region before going into it

lets just say something happened and they were forced to go back to Rhegaia at 27, becoming connected directly to Champion Konyi, the technically president of the region

they got mentored by the current gym leader during that time, and reconnected to their ranger roots

btw keep in mind in Rhegaia being a gym leader is almost the equivalent of both a spiritual leader and government official

so now because Randi became the new gym leader at 30, they are now additionally the head of both the ranger and medical department

Randi is technically the newest in terms of joining the gym leaders

Let's just say Randi's caring instincts kicked in the moment they saw the other gym leaders, two of whom are kids, + two with issues, and are overall aren't talking to each other or just not okay with each other at all

bro really kickstarted these guy's character arcs and actually changed some shit

bringing everyone together and just kind of becoming their "therapist" or mediator figure

their biggest strength is their empathy, followed by persuasion (which turns into manipulation in their evil aligned aus)

in their game concept they look out for the player, which is why you're gonna see them most of the time

is usually male-aligned, but could be a girl if they wanted to

has the constant gag of getting into accidents and taking the injury when others duck their heads (there is actually a very deep lore reason to this)

just because they're kind and empathetic doesn't mean they can't pull some punches outta nowhere

Though if you manage to anger this guy, you've really done fucked up

(especially considering all gym leaders are supposed to know how to fight)

btw they will try to evade/ignore all questions about their shades

[ Welcome to the world of Giratina! ]

The jealous boy makes his way to his beloved playground beyond the crudely drawn skies of his home, singing a song to himself.

Though he finds no need to, his oil-painted skin presses against the thorns of a rose held in his palm, its usual deep blue petals splotched with an inky black- the darkest shade of red.

Perhaps it was out of a newly acquired habit, or a desire to belong; such a desire should not exist, not when he lived within the walls of the gallery, surrounded by his father's creations.

Or it was an attempt to mimic humanity- even if he had accepted that his wish to become real was never to come true, it did not mean he wouldn't be able to live out his dreams in the fabricated world.

Plus, he thinks to himself, lips curled into a smile. My new friends must be feeling out of place.

Piper understood that feeling quite well; and he sought to be a wonderful host to his new guests- even to that awful, awful teacher, that wretched adult who had found out his secret, Piper would show nothing but grace towards.

Slater would be displeased if Piper refused to get along with Antoniou.

Treading down purple hallways, he hears voices of festive cheer from beyond Doll Room.

He doesn't need to knock to announce his presence, the Shuppet from behind the door recognize the light footsteps of their youngest brother; and the sight that greets him is one to behold.

Dolls hanging from the ceiling by long red threads, dark paint seeping in the corners, the portraits of the Tattletale and the Strained Ear against the walls, just behind the two Ladies sprawled on the floor, Red Eyes' empty frame in the center-

"It's perfect! Don't you think so, Slater?"

His best friend remained motionless on the carpet, curled into a fetal position across the Lady in White, a Florges impatiently tapping her fingers.

"What about you, Antoniou?"

As for the teacher, he sat on the ground with his knees close to his chest, empty eyes glazing over at nothing- not at Slater, and certainly not at the cheerful, shiny Shuppet that twirled around him, biting at his hair and tugging on his ridiculous jacket.

And speaking of ridiculous jacket.

"Hey, you have something in here!"

He fishes out a lighter from Antoniou's pocket, careful as to not hurt himself or his companions.

The gleaming silver reminded him so much of the palette knife he kept on his person- and for a moment, he mixed feelings towards the teacher aside, he saw themselves as two peas in a pod, one and the same.

"You who would do anything to get out of this gallery, as well as I,"

In another world, another time, his palette knife would stain itself red in order to achieve his goals; he was sure that it would be the same for Antoniou's hands, and the lighter he carried with him.

But in the present, the here and now, his current reality, his hands were never dirtied; and perhaps, this was the best outcome for everyone involved.

Slater would not be scared and lonely, Antoniou would be blissfully unaware of his surroundings, and Piper would not have to resort to such measures to live the life he had wanted.

With time, his companions would be one with the gallery, and Piper himself would be one with them, real in their eyes, a human without a soul.

Still.

"You'd think a teacher of all people wouldn't be carrying such dangerous things around!" He huffs.

He expects for Antoniou to snark at him, or even for Slater to meekly agree with him.

But as usual, all that welcomes him is silence.

It's fine.

"Dangerous things aren't allowed in the gallery, so this'll go in the-"

T R A S H.

"Right, right," He smiles at the painting. "To the trash. Here you go!"

He cheerfully tosses the lighter over to the empty frame in the center of the room- long, pink claws reach out to grab the lighter, and the grinning face of Red Eyes, a Mega Banette, greets Piper.

Perhaps it was greeting Antoniou as well, inviting him for another game- but Antoniou does not budge.

With the lighter out of the way, newfound friends by his side, Piper sings a happy song he heard from Slater, dancing and twirling as the Lady in Orange waves around Antoniou's rose, plucking its petals with deliberate slowness.

The Lady in White does not reach out for Slater's own white rose- but rather, the treat in his pocket, a small chocolate in the shape of a heart.

"Slater, Antoniou, now we can play lots and lots! Forever!"

A building beside the Crater, now jam-packed with people of all walks of life, from the Academy students mingling with one another, to talented trainers from across the globe, to literal criminal masterminds and assassins. Yet, the most eccentric guests were just about to arrive. Seven individuals, five of which dimly radiant with the plentiful energy that was prevalent in areas around the Crater.

Zossie. The most openly excitable. She wore a suit to match the one she sought to dance with - Silva.

Poipole. Zossie's other partner, who itself wore a matching suit as well.

Dulse. He felt out of place in such an event, but had turned up in a vibrant blue suit designed by a certain Subway Master. He has a lot to learn about socializing with humans.

Soliera. She watched the humans warily, as if any one of them can turn on her to attack her. She cared not for socialization, but was here to watch over the others closely in a protective fashion. She wore a reflective blue dress herself.

Phyco. He was the most nervous about this, but was otherwise in good humor. He wanted to establish more positive connections with humans, and even turned up in his own suit chosen by Soliera.

Rhi. They are here to fuck around and find out. Having a good time. They are wearing a dress.

Wooper. Rhi's dance partner and beloved pokemon. The most important member here. He was made to look all dapper.

The aliens have officially invaded the ball, what will they do?

[The Ruins of Hope are always quiet, but they’re especially quiet at this time of night.

Looming piles of crumbling rubble cast weird shadows over the moonlit scene. The stars seem unusually bright - probably from a lack of light pollution, but they alongside a round full moon shining like a coin add to a sense of unreality to the scene. The steady background noise of waves crashing and receding, crashing and receding, is the only grounding element.

But none of these things are the focus of the video. Instead, the watcher’s attention is drawn to a young woman with her back to the camera. It’s difficult to see in this light, but it seems like she’s wearing a long red dress that clashes awkwardly with the sensible brown boots on her feet. Her hair, long and dark blonde, lies flat and limp - it’s been a while since it was last washed. Beside her stands a Greninja, half hidden in shadows - this is likely purposeful, as while neither of the two seem aware that they are being filmed, Greninja are secretive at the best of times.

The woman seems to be wilting under the harsh moonlight. She would probably prefer to hide in the shadows as well - but for whatever reason, she stands her ground and forces herself to remain in the light.

Her voice, when she cries out, is loud and clear. Like a bell.

“Tapu Fini?”

Her audacious cry gets no response. She tries again.

“Tapu Fini? I want to talk to you!”

No response. She lets out a frustrated sigh, before trying one more time.

“It’s about the Pokemon you fought! I know you were involved - I just want to know where it went!”

Her voice echoes in the silence. She waits for a reply.

It doesn’t come.

After about twenty seconds she slumps, resigned.

“Shit. Guess we’re doing this the old fashioned way after all.”

Beside her, her Greninja makes a small, throaty sound - not exactly protest, but not jumping with enthusiasm either.

“I know, I know. But- listen. Either that thing managed to escape Area Zero and then make its way all the way to Alola, or there are two of it. Maybe more. I don’t know which option’s worse… either way, we have to find it. Figure out what it is, how it got here, before anyone gets hurt. Alright?”

The Greninja nods, seemingly convinced.

The woman then fishes around in her bag, pulling out four pokeballs. She releases the Pokémon inside - a white flower Florges, an Abomasnow, a Houndoom and a Salamence.

“Ok, you five. Split up and search the island. Leave no log or stone unturned. You find any trace of the Pokemon, you report it to Bubble. You run into the Pokemon, you come and get me immediately. Reconvene here in two hours. Understood?”

Her Pokemon all nod in agreement, before vanishing into the night to fulfil their tasks.

The woman then turns slightly, her face falling into frame. She’s still quite far away, but her eyes are visible even from here - they’re startlingly blue, a bright, pure colour that brings to mind a very hot fire. She follows her Pokemon with her eyes as they leave. Then, she turns further, and her eyes catch the camera.

There's no heirarchy to this list:

Aromatisse - I love this sassy thing, I love it's color, I love it's pre-evo, I love it's concept. It's just NEAT. I have a perfect IV one named Lester and a shiny one named Jerome.

Florges - I love the entire line and I almost used flabebe as the representative (criminally cute). My favorite colors are white and blue. I have a White one named Bianca.

Slurpuff - I especially love the shiny, but this thing is so happy and looking at it makes me want something sweet. I equally love Swirlix. I have a shiny Slurpuff named Créme Coco.

Alcremie - I was obsessed with this thing in Sword and Shield, I spent so long grinding max raids and breeding for perfect IV's to get all forms with perfect stats. My favorite flavor is ruby swirl with love sweets. I have three alchremie plushies. The one I actually trained is named Sweeteaze.

Clefairy - I'm pretty ambivalent to clefable, but I do love cleffa and clefairy dearly! I love their association with the moon and thier curly little tails and big ears. And it's pink! Mine is named Cosmo.

Honorable Mentions:

Mawile - This little thing is a bad-ass! For the longest time I thought all mawile were female. Really cool design, I'm glad it gained the fairy typing. I haven't trained or used Mawile in any of the switch games.

Togetic - I used to draw togetic all the time when I was in high school. Something about it is strange and endearing and I always saw it as strange beakless bird (almost confirmed with togekiss) and for a while I would design bird monsters without beaks. I also loved that it was white instead of yellow like togepi. I have a togetic all the way from Leaf Green named Deadnettle. I think this might be the oldest pokemon I have in Home.

Dendenne - It's mind meltingly cute and its shiny is really sleek! It's not my favorite pika-clone but it's up there! It was one of my favorite followers in Sword and Shield. My shiny one is named Spree and my regular one is named Clark (I don't remember why).

Mr. Mime - Another old favorite I'm glad got the fairy typing to make it even more weird. I do prefer the original Mr. Mime design with three fingers instead of four. I might have replaced it with Mime Jr. but for as ridiculously cute as it is, I think Mr. Mime just nudges it out with his senority. Mine is named Shaggy.

I was trying to think about what my favorite fairy type pokemon is and my brain almost exploded. Maybe it IS my favorite type or at least it's the type I'm least critical of design-wise.

Owl House Pokémon AU

…or maybe Boiling Isle based Pokémon region? Either way, it was only a matter of time before my various brain rots starting trying to merge. I’m sure other people have done this before, but I wanted to give it a go.

I’m going to leave things a bit open-ended, so feel free to chime in with suggestions in the replies, tags, or comments.

My brain keeps bouncing around between “what if the Owl House characters had Pokémon” and “what if the Boiling Isles (and the tensions there during the show) were translated into a Pokémon game?”

At a minimum I want to give the Hexside Squad (with or without Luz) at least three Pokémon, because I think it would be fun to see them as an ever shifting set of double battle partners to face in 6v6 matches. So here they are in alphabetical order, with Luz at the end.

Amity: Her palisman, Ghost, is a white cat; Kantonian Persian is the obvious choice. Her favored magic is Abominations, which are purple goop; since she, in contrast to her parents, focus on a fairly pure expression of the abomination arts, I think Kantonian Muk works for that. Beyond these two, it’s a bit harder: due to her use of whips and tendrils of abomination goo, something like the water/poison Tentacruel or a bug type with string shot or sticky webs (Ariados to keep with her poison theming?); her above-gauntlets bring to mind a fighting type and the ability to fire them is reminiscent of moves like Gunk Shot and Sludge Bomb, so maybe Toxicroak; and, while she doesn’t use it often, we watched her learn a fire spell with a pink flame, so maybe shiny of the Magmortar line.

Gus: His palisman, Emmiline Bailey Marcostimo, is a blue chameleon; a Kecleon would be the obvious choice, either shiny (blue belly mark) are simply alternately colored (like the purple ones sometimes seen); His favored magic is Illusions; which makes either Unovan or Hisuian Zoroark a natural fit. He wants to re-establish contact with the giraffes so Girafarig would also be a great fit. Other Pokémon known for illusions in other ways include Noctowl and Stantler, which means Gus seems to specialize in unusual normal types.

Hunter: His palisman, Flapjack, is a cardinal; while there ARE red bird Pokémon, none of them are really anything close to a cardinal. Given his intelligence and talent for some sort of flash step or short-range teleport, maybe an Alakazam? Really Hunter is the one giving me issues pinning down much of anything.

Willow: Her palisman, Clover, is a bee; based on the prominent stinger, Beedrill could work, though Vespiquen and (as a bit more of a stretch) Ribombee (who is actually a bee FLY) are also possibilities. Willow is an immensely powerful witch with regard to Plant magic especially, so we want to lean into the Grass type; given her propensity for masses of vines, I think Tangrowth would be a good choice, though really any Pokémon that learns Vine Whip would work. She’s also quite buff, so a Breloom or some other Grass types that can learn Bulk Up would also fit.

Luz: We STILL don’t know what her palisman is at the time I’m writing this, so that’s a blank spot. I think a nice touch for Luz would be 4 Pokémon reflecting the 4 glyphs. For the Light glyph, the top 3 Pokémon in my mind are Lanturn, Ampharos, and Umbreon. For the Ice glyph, its Cryoganal; she learned it from a snowflake, after all. For the Plant glyph, while Luz does uses vines like Willow, she learned the glyph from, and often produces, FLOWERS with her glyph, so leaning into that with a Pokémon like Venusaur, Florges (learned as a Flabébé), or Comfey would make sense. Finally, for the Fire glyph, Luz leans more into the traditional orange fire, but also sometimes uses it just to make things hot; honestly, I think anything that screams “I am FIRE INCARNATE” would work for this.

📚 Anon here again with an idea of Lydia getting pulled into Hisui all Warden Ingo style~

The Diamond Clan found her half-dead in the Crimson Mirelands. After recovering, they find their new companion has no memories except her name.

Not wanting to leave this woman alone, Adaman takes her in. While not a warden, Lydia proves to be pretty reliable in other situations.

Lydia, for the most part, retains her gentle personality but she keeps everyone at arm's length, not really getting close to anyone. She's troubled by her lack of memories but certain things seems to give flashes of nostalgia

Examples:

-When meeting Professor Laventon and hearing the way he talks and seeing the pokeballs, it gives her a strong reaction of warm feelings and the feeling that she has lost something very important. Even crying and hugging Laventon without thinking about it. (I'm dying on the hill that Laventon is Leon and Hop's ancestor and Lydia seeing him brought back how she felt about Leon). After apologizing, she requested if she could have some Pokeballs, feeling nostalgic at the sight of them

-Seeing blue flowers in the Coronet Highlands, she is reminded of her beloved Florges ("I... Remember having a friend. She was more beautiful than any flower but she loved nothing more than to tend to them... Maybe hoping they would become just as beautiful as her....?")

-Upon experiencing a Pokemon battle, she was reminded that she came from a world where Pokemon and Humans worked together

She's often seen in the Jubilife Village, reading everything she can get her hands on. (When asked about why she does this, she says "I... Don't know. I just have urge to read any book or paper I come across..."

She gets along well enough with her fellow Diamond Clan members, except for Melli, whom she sees as petty and childish

Unlike anyone of the Diamond Clan, she has her pokemon in Pokeballs. She has a Hisuian Typhlosion, Roserade and Glameow

What are everyone’s teams in your Pokemon au? Do you have a plot set out or is it a more causal au?

You'd better fucking BELIEVE we have a plot set up, I have poured so much effort into the Pokemon au

Okay, so: when it comes to teams, I decided that everyone should have at least one legendary Pokemon in their party as a way to be faithful to the ace monster concept, but it wasn’t until much later into the au that I realized I’d failed to do that with Sora’s team, which led to a very fun plot point involving his secret 7th Pokemon he keeps in his box

Teams under the cut because it’s gonna be a long one, boys

Yuya has: Groudon, Sandshrew, Popplio, Hippopotas, Aipom, and Ekans

In his box, he’s got Phanphy, Charmander, Politoad, Ducklett, Liepard, Skorupi, and Lycanroc (Midnight form)

I wanted him to have as many Pokemon as he could that reminded me of the monsters in his deck, and since Yuya is a coordinator in this au instead of a regular trainer, it just felt right that he’d have a lot of different partners he could swap out for various contests

Also I’m mad that there isn’t a legendary dragon that looks like Odd Eyes, so I had to give Yuya Groudon instead, making him the only Yu boy in this au to not have a legendary dragon type Pokemon

Yuto has: Eternatus, Bisharp, Aegislash, Aggron, Lucario, and Shadow Rider Calyrex

Okay listen, I know I was supposed to only give everyone One legendary Pokemon, but with Calyrex I feel justified because it looks So Much like it could be one of Yuto’s Phantom Knights, I mean

Yuto gets to have two legendaries to make up for Arc-V killing him off so early into the show

Aside from this guy, the rest of Yuto’s team just felt like it should be comprised of steel types ow the edge so that’s what I gave him. His Pokemon are as edgy as he tries to appear to be and that is enough to amuse me.

There also weren’t exactly many good Pokemon equivalents of his archetype, so I made do with what I had.

Yugo has: Latios, Scizor, Claydol, Porygon 2, Ponyta (Shiny), and Sudowoodo

Yugo was honestly so hard to come up with a team for because all his Speedroid cards are just like... toys and stuff for the most part, so I agonized over what I should pick for him for a Long time. In the end, I feel like I got close enough to his general aesthetic with the Pokemon I picked.

(His Ponyta is there because of Speedroid Horse Stilts, and while it is a shiny, the dumbass has no idea about it, and thinks he just happened to get a special blue horse that was born a little differently- he never claimed to be smart.)

He also deadass thought Sudowoodo was a grass type for the longest time. Rin had to be the one to tell him it wasn’t. 

“Yugo. Sudowoodo? It sounds like pseudo? As in fake wood?”

“Ohhhhh is that what its name means? Wow Rin you’re so smart.”

No Yugo you’re just exceptionally stupid.

Yuri has: Naganadel, Seviper, Victreebel, Toxicroak, Vileplume, and Roserade

For the most toxic of battlers, I felt it only necessary to give Yuri an all poison type team. I included an even mix of plants in there to tie into his Predaplant deck, Seviper for the snake eye vibes, and Toxicroak... just feels right, you know. I couldn’t find any other poison plant themed Pokemon that seemed like they’d fit his vibe, so he gets a poison frog instead.

Yuzu has: Meloetta, Sylveon, Meowstic (Female), Gardevoir, Florges, and Jigglypuff

I tried to stick with Pokemon that had very feminine vibes for Yuzu, since her deck is comprised of pretty singing ladies, so Meloetta and Jigglypuff in particular feel very fitting in that regard.

Serena has: Cresselia, Delcatty, Glameow, Lopunny, Persian, and Pyroar (Female)

The moon vibes with Cresselia felt perfect for Serena, and as for the rest of her team, all cats and a bunny to pay homage to her Lunalight deck ^^

Rin has: Celesteela, Mismagius, Hatterene, Glaceon, Froslass, and Chimecho

Her team vibes with the witch part of her Wind Witch deck, at least for Mismagius and Hatterene. Glaceon, Froslass, and Chimecho are there due to the etymology of her name, where possible meanings of it include “cold” and “bell”, which I thought was pretty cool, no pun intended.

Ruri has: Galarian Articuno, Pidgeot, Noctowl, Chatot, Altaria, and Unfezant (Male)

Some softer birds for the soft bird girl, for the most part. I liked the thought of her team being all birds like her Lyriluscs, and just... yeah. They’re all very friendly birds that Ruri’s bonded pretty closely with. Also I made sure she had Galarian Articuno for no reason other than it is purple like her, and I think that’s all the reason I need.

Gong has: Kartana, Machoke, Samurott, Golisopod, Hariyama, and Conkeldurr

Gong was really easy to assign a team to- just had to find as many samurai themed Pokemon as possible, and fill in the rest with really strong fighting types, like Machoke, Hariyama, and Conkeldurr.

Shingo has: Type: Null, Dusclops, Misdreavus, Spiritomb, Decidueye, and Cramorant

With Shingo, I tried to go for Pokemon that had the same vibes as some of his Abyss Actors, and I think Dusclops is the best example of this. Tbh I am very proud of giving him a Type: Null because Type: Null is an amalgamation of other Pokemon, something that was created in a lab to be a fighting machine. There’s nothing natural about Type: Null, and it’s kind of terrifying to Yuya specifically, who’s always viewed Pokemon as creatures to befriend. This experiment created purely to kill... unnerves him, and serves as a very good foil to his beliefs when it comes to Pokemon.

On a sillier note, I chose Cramorant purely because of this quote from its bulbapedia page: “Cramorant are also rather unintelligent as they can't remember which Pokémon they fight in mid battle, but never forget Trainers that they trust. However, they try to attack their Trainers if they steal food from them.”

I just thought the idea of Shingo having this dumb bird that occasionally pecks at him over food would be funny tbh, gotta dunk on the rival at least a little bit.

Sora has: Banette, Vanillish, Swirlix, Stufful, Litleo, and Buneary

In his box, he has a Guzzlord

I feel like Sora’s team is very straightforward, as it’s a mix of sweets themed Pokemon, and Pokemon that represent monsters in his deck- Stufful for Flufflal Bear, Litleo for Fluffal Leo, and Buneary for Fluffal Rabbit. Guzzlord... is relevant later on in the plot after shit goes down, that’s all I’ll say for now.

Masumi has: Diancie, Sableye, Corsola, Aurorus, Tyranitar, and Lycanroc (Dusk form)

Gem Knight girl deserved to have a bunch of good rock type Pokemon, and Diancie is like. The best possible legendary I could have given someone like her lol, the crystal aesthetic is just perfect for her. Not much to say here honestly, I just really vibed with these specific rock types and thought they’d make a good team for her.

Yaiba has: Zeraora, Kecleon, Pangoro, Scyther, Purugly, and Stantler

So I actually threw this list together just now because I realized Masumi was the only member of her trio to have a full team, and that just wasn’t right. I tried to base this team off the XX-Sabers as well I could, but it was a little hard with how many humanoid cards Yaiba has. With his legendary, I actually chose it based off this monster right here! 

I think they’ve got similar enough vibes aesthetically for Zeraora to fit him. Scyther is based on Emmersblade, Kecleon on Ragigura, Stantler on Garsem, Purugly on Gardestrike, and Pangoro... Honestly, it just makes me think of Yaiba himself when I look at him. I think they’d get along well.

Hokuto has: Deoxys, Espeon, Grumpig, Starmie, Lunatone, and Malamar

Psychic type Pokemon just sort of felt right for him to have, considering that his deck is based on constellations and has an overall space theme to it. Not sure why that translates over to psychic in my brain, but you know what, it looks right, I love this team for him, and I’m not gonna question it.

I especially think Deoxys makes a good legendary for him considering it is literally a space alien, and Hokuto’s whole thing is space, so yeah, he gets to have the space alien.

Shun has: Galarian Moltres, Skarmory, Fearow, Dodrio, Staraptor, and Talonflame

Pretty straightforward team I feel- it’s all birds of prey for the Raid Raptor boy, and I just thought the Galarian version of Moltres was neat. Makes me think of his Blaze Falcon since they’re both black and red.

Dennis has: Hoopa, Mr. Mime, Delphox, Zoroark, Alakazam, and Hawlucha

Hoopa seemed like a very good legendary for Dennis to have, given his deck archetype and all, he just kind of looks like a little circus dude. Its unbound form makes me think about the swap Dennis has when it gets revealed that he’s actually been a double agent the whole time, and the play gloves finally come off.

The rest of his team... I feel like they speak for themselves. I tried to give him Pokemon that matched up with his deck archetype, so there’s Delphox to rep the fire themed monsters, Mr. Mime because it just fits Dennis’ general personality- and I love the thought of those two being friends and just copying each other’s theatric poses. Chaotic dynamic duo.

(Also: Zoroark's ability letting it disguise itself as another Pokemon is just another parallel to Dennis pretending to be one of the good guys at first, and I love it)

Shinji has: Buzzwole, Beedrill, Vespiquen, Ribombee, Kricketune, and Leavanny

I tried to give the bee man all the bees I could, but there are only so many bee Pokemon out there 😔 I knew the rest of his team had to be insect types to make up for it, so I picked Kricketune because he is just... a friend... a musical buddy who definitely gets along well with the kids. Leavanny is just a bug mom who also helps patch up the kids’ clothing when they get tears in them, which I just love the idea of. Sweet bug mom whose dex entry talks about how they sew for other Pokemon looks after her trainer’s kids when she’s not battling.

Crow has: Murkrow, Braviary, Starly, Swellow, Pikipek, and Corviknight

Bunch of birds for my Blackwing user... This team was partially picked out by June, and it was mostly meant for the Other Pokemon au, but I don’t really see a reason to change his team here. Crow is the one person without a legendary on his team, which makes me sad, but there really isn’t a legendary bird out there that fits his vibes, so as much as I wanna give him a legendary, he will have to make do without one. Sorry Crow.

Hoo... that’s finally all the teams down. Now I can talk about the plot! So, as I briefly mentioned in a previous post (I think), this particular au is inspired by Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum! It’s the era where contests really became a big thing, which is perfect for a lot of these characters because it’s easy to translate dueltaining over to coordinating in this world. Much like in canon, Yuya aspires to be as great a coordinator as his dad was, and strives to entertain people the way Yusho could. He’s not much for battling, and far prefers getting to show off his Pokemon’s talents in contests than anything. 

Academia is going to play the role of Team Galactic in this au, which is incredibly fitting with their mission in canon: to remake the universe in their leader’s image. In this case, with Leo Akaba taking on the role of Cyrus, his intent is, presumably, to either destroy the universe that took his daughter from him, or create a new one where she can live once again, no matter the cost.

Sora being a key member in Team Galactic is a very big part of the plot in this au: his mission was to capture one of the lake legendaries, Uxie, since Leo needed all three of them for his plan to remake the universe, but things don’t exactly go well for him, and he ends up losing his battle against Uxie, resulting in all of his memories being locked away, and essentially making him a blank slate.

Side note: the Galactic grunt haircut reminds me a lot of Sora, I mean just look at it

Practically same bangs as him, just add an upturned ponytail and you’ve got my son.

This post is getting very long... but I will add one last plot related thing to it before I go: Uxie can erase memories, Mesprit can erase emotions, and Azelf can erase willpower. All three of these lake legendaries play a very important role in the plot, due to being the keys to Leo Akaba’s plans to remake the universe. Sora was touched by Uxie, effectively doing away with all memory he has of being in Team Galactic. Yuya ends up touched by Mesprit in an attempt to save them, and subsequently loses his emotions as a result. Riley?

Riley had been affected by all three of them before the plot began, which is why she is the way she’d been in Arc-V: Emotionless, unable to remember anything about her past except for those brief, fleeting flashes of memory when put into certain situations she’d experienced before, and without any will of her own. She’s so dependent on her older brother because she quite literally has no clue what to do with herself without being told to, and needs orders to function.
