So... you imagine DoL set in the early 2000s? ME TOO. Tell me more about that!

aaaaaaa yes I do!!!! (Sorry for the late reply haha. I kept forgetting to come back to this ask) I think I started to feel that way pretty early on, since there's hardly any electronics around in game.

You don't have access to a phone yourself (which, admittedly makes sense as an orphan) but electronics get barely mentioned in general. (I'm guessing the true reason for it, is that it would be too much of a hassle to implement electronics as a mechanic in game. bc arguably you should easily be able to buy a phone or w/e later on, if dol actually took place in our time) Named npcs often have phones to record you with (which I kinda forgot about tbh lmao) but unless in that context, phones don't get brought up at all iirc. None of the named npcs ever ask you for your phone number and Social media isn't really a topic of conversation either.

The only Computers that I remember mentioned in game are Leightons, Mickey's, Kylars and the one you can check in the police station. (I don't remember if Bailey even has one or not.) They are far and few between. They also all read as desktop computers to me and not laptops. Hell, the only gaming Console to ever be a topic of interest, is Robins. I don't think we hear of/see any handheld conosles at all. Even TV's rarely get mentioned.

Pop Culture, like manga, anime and games doesn't seem to be a big thing yet either.

All of that gives me the impression that most electronic is still pretty sparse and hard to come around and kinda reminds me of my childhood when those interests where still conisdered niche/nerdy and weird. The few characters that have desktop pc's seem to be ones that had/have enough money (like Kylar, maybe Bailey?) to foot the bill, are either in a high enough position of power to own one (like leighton) or they're involved enough in shady business that they might have the resources to have their own equipment (Mickey).

tbf a lot of my reasoning can be argued against or easily explained away, but I think dol is infinitely more interesting as a game/story when it's set during the early/mid 2000s, where most electronics were still hard to come by.

Oh and last but not least: it simply makes for easier story telling haha. I think there would be way more ""plot holes"" you'd have trouble explaining away if it was set during modern times. considering how much digital surveilance we have nowadays.

Aside from all the examples I just brought up, dol just has that 2000s grime to me. It's so grungy and dank in it's vibes that it always reminds me of that timeframe. Just has that kinda clunky/kitschy charm to it. (a more eclectic personal explanation is that the seasons in game still feel the way I remember them for my childhood. nowadays everything feels really out of wack thanks to global warming. Although I'm sure that people who are older than me would say the same haha)

to keep this already long post short(er lmao) I'm gonna go into some headcanons under the cut; Basically which Characters have electronics and why:

Avery: has an expensive af and extremely clunky looking (by todays standards) work laptop, that she sometimes lugs around. Also owned one of the first mobile phones. Those really big and blocky ones. Maybe even had one of those phones that were built into cars. However, I think shed be kinda annoyed by mobile phones*, even if she's extremely diligent in answering her calls. (the grind never stops) *based on this comic from 1919 about pocketphones: Mostly because she strikes me as someone who doesn't care to be overly accessible and also hates it when whatever shes doing at the moment gets disrupted by something else.

Alex: Canonically has a phone in game. To me it's a landline phone. They don't own much electronics beside it. They have no desktop pc and no mobile phone. (canonically the own a tv and I feel like they'd have a radio, maybe even an old record player) Bailey: It would make sense for them to have a desktop computer but I can't remember if they canonically (and with that I mean in game) do have one or not. I could see it either way tbh. As they strike me as a stubborn hard ass whos paranoid about electronics and quickly gets annoyed by it) They only own burner phones aside from the official landline phone thats designated for "over the counter" orphanage business. Eden: Has an old ass radio and an extremely dusty burner phone that bailey gave them once. They don't own anything else

Harper: has a mobile phone they got from Remy, it's purely for business. I don't think they have one for personal business. They own a pager though bc of the hospital. They probably have a desktop pc too if only for hospital stuff.

Kylar: Has a Desktop pc, their parents footed the bill for that many screened monstrosity (tbf i dont know enough to remember if old pcs are even able to have several monitors connected to them or not). Probably had a mobile phone once. Whitney stole it. They own a few consoles but they prefer pc gaming (pc master race /j) Some 2000s era games (with no consideration for an exact timeframe) that I think Kylar would be into are : Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines American McGee's Alice Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 / Persona 3 Portable The Urbz: Sims in the City The Sims 2 The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Robin: No mobile phone, the only electronics they keep around (until they inevitably need to sell them for emergency money) are an old tv and a gaming console. I have no concrete headcanons regarding the exact console and games unfortunately. (They seem to like superhero related stuff and I don't remember enough games that I associate with that direction of the top of my head)

Sydney: Has access to a landline phone but thats it. they don't have a mobile phone. Maybe they got to look at/ try out a pc at Kylars house once upon a time, but I don't think Sirris has one themself. I might be off with this but I could see Sirris being the one who bought a few early nintendo consoles like the SNES and Game Cube. Maybe even a gameboy.

Whitney: I don't think Whitney or their family is particularly wealthy so all of the access to electronics that they got, is either through wealthier friends, bullying or stealing. They have a mobile phone and probably a few handheld consoles they nabbed off their victims (in secret).

Yeah, sure, if I’m on desktop I can copy/paste the text. But it’s annoying on mobile and half the time it won’t actually allow me to copy/paste.

How to Edit "Uneditable" Poll Tags

As everyone is probably aware by now, the biggest problem with polls is that they make posts permanently uneditable. The instant you publish, the edit button is grayed out and you can never fix any typos, correct inaccurate information, change the poll duration, or change reblog permissions.

Editing tags was also seemingly impossible (which is a Big Problem given the banned tags situation is still very much a thing), but luckily there's a workaround: the mass post editor! I rarely use this feature and often forget it even exists because it's clunky and annoying to deal with, but it's better than nothing.

Step 1: Open the Mass Post Editor. To access it, go to your activity or drafts page on desktop. You should find the link at the very bottom of the side menu. As far as I know this editor is not available on mobile.

Note: If you want to edit a post that's NOT on your main blog just append the sideblog name to the end of the link.

Step 2: Find the post you want to edit and click on it. This is easier said than done and the part that makes the mass post editor so annoying. All you're given is a cluttered wall of thumbnail previews with tiny snippets of text and no way to search or filter posts other than by the month they were published. It's a mess. If the post you're trying to find is not recent, your best bet will be using the browser search (Ctrl+F on Windows, ⌘+Z on Mac), however, this will only search within the tiny snippet of text in the previews, not the whole post.

Step 3: Edit the tags. This part should be pretty straightforward. Click the "edit tags" button in the top menu to delete an existing tag (note it will only list the first 20 because those are the only ones that are indexed and searchable) or "add tags" to add a new tag to the post.

That's it, you're done! Obviously this method works for editing tags on any post, not just polls, but imo there's very little reason to go this route unless you're desperate.

Royal Asset is an interactive novel, about a group of people with exceptional skills that were tasked to defend the kingdom and it's crown. There are 6 love interest for you to choose from, 3 males and 3 females each with their own past and secrets for you to learn!

(Note: The RO's are not final. I might add more in the near future and that no romance is not a option. Also, I want this novel open as much as possible not restricting itself to the medieval time era or any kind of era. For example, I might put modern music in the novel.)

" Haha! brooding my king?" his Royal Protector asked him.

"That obvious huh? Leon." the king said to his protector.

"Be quit, Leon! can't you leave the king in peace?" the king's Royal Wizard says annoyed, chastising Leon.

"You're always so grumpy! Leona!" he says to the wizard.

The king listening to the banter of the two, just can't help but to forget his present problem and laugh at their argument. Thinking how many years have passed, before they were children and playing around. These two are his most treasured friends and he can always rely on them to watch his back.

"Reminiscing my king? I can see tears forming on your eyes." Leon says.

"Yes, Leon I'm just thinking the good old days, now I have to manage this kingdom and ensuring safety to the people, not to mention almost getting killed in my sleep." the king says wistfully.

"Just remember you're not alone Hendrik!" Leona says gently, putting her hands on the shoulder of the king.

"I know, it's just taxing to oversee this all by myself!" he says frustated, hands clutching tightly

"That's what you get for being the heir." Leon deadpan. Before the king can something, Leon immediately cut him off.

"But worry not!, me and my sister here have thought of a plan to make your life easier!" he says triumphantly, fist raise in the air.

"Please do tell!" the king said tiringly.

"Hendrick, why not make a team that consist of people from different divisions." she says to the king confidently.

"We know the divisions have their differences and they are always at each other's throat, but this crazy plan might work!. he exclaimed skeptical.

"We just need to think of a group name, that will strike fear to the hearts of heathen and will be a beacon of light to the people.

"How about, "The Elites." she says.

"Too common Leona! we need something unique, "The Vindicators!" he says.

"Really Leon! "The Vindicators" the people upon hearing that, will think that they are mercenaries or thugs." she says exasperated.

The king closed his eyes and block out the noise of the arguing siblings and ponder what name will sound better.

"The Royal Assets!" he says aloud, it's name, reverberating through the castle walls.

The kingdom of Devontae, thrived and lived happily. King Hendrik rules his kingdom with a stern but caring hand. Ensuring the safety of it's people and punishing those who will disrupt the peace of his kingdom. With the council and advice of his "Royal Protector and Royal Wizard". His most trusted and treasured friends, ensuring that he will not fall from grace. But as time goes by, the king became weary as shouldering the weight of his kingdom alone is slowly taking a toll on him and one assassin almost succeeded in taking his life. His friends noticing this, decided to devise a plan that will help the king govern and protect his kingdom at the same time protecting the king himself.

They recruited the following people.

But as time goes by, our protectors grew in aged and wisdom. As well as their enemies becoming more powerful and cunning. Our protectors knows that time is against them and set out on recruiting new students. They started teaching, training and passing their knowledge to their new students.

As well as seeking the one who is worthy to bear their mantle and continue their legacy.

A daredevil and laughing at the face of death, they are always ready to accept any mission despite the risk. Always seeing the silver lining in everything even in seeing someone dying. To them seeing the team sad and glum is a horrible curse to bear.

As a lone wolf, they always distant themselves from others. Afraid that getting close to someone might open old wounds. Spent many years hardening their heart making it hard as steel and cutting out all emotions both heart and soul, making sure that it will not get in the way of completing their mission.

To them mission is first priority if it means sacrificing their friends. Using every resources at their disposal may it be life's or favors, they will not hesitate to do so, if it means securing the mission.

I am annoyed by many things, but also can just look over many minor inconveniences. Like my ex's behaviours, hich I'm still angry to think about and partially blame how naive I tend to be to people once I trust them. Like the weather right now which is going from winter wonderland to rainy, wet, sloppy, disgusting and slippery mix of snow, water and mud. There's plenty of things that annoy me in social media, in fandoms, in how people on the internet behave and treat each other. I got experience soured enough even in this rpc that I am mourning writing James, but also currently hard to see a reason to be here, even if these people are either inactive, moved somewhere else or blocked. It stacked over time and now I'm just really salty. I don't think other fandoms or rpcs will be much better. Massive writing block combined with art block surely doesn't help the case and it all makes a crazy neverending circle of frustration.

And as of right now? I'm frustrated af and swearing at my screen, while working on a voluntary magazine. I like putting text together for printing, BUT: it's December and I have shitload of other urgent chores and things to take care of; someone was late solid 2 weeks after writing deadline; they're mostly elderly and apparently keep forgetting what I asked them to NOT put in the text; photos I get to use are horrible quality or embedded into text files; some text files are wrong format or corrupted and I can't even open them anyhow and many, many more issues. Also last time it got printed "even cheaper" than already fairly cheap priting stations I got contact to, and the result was so oversaturated that photos were ugly blobs of black ink. I was and still am ashamed my name is signed under this thing. I'm seriously considering resigning. Overall I feel like giving up on many things I was quite happy for, but can't get to them.

I both lovehow awfully fitting is "Merry Crisis" icon for both me and Jim through yet another December. Terrible. 10/10, best icon idea I ever had.

- I try to credit everything I use in webweaves! Art will 100% always be credited! I'll try to find credits for all the text I use as well but sometimes I just Can't so if you know let me know and I'll add it to the post!

i very much do Not have a posting schedule of any kind. I usually don't post multiple times a day though so if I DO have a queue its bc I made like fifteen things at once or whatever BUT I do this for fun and if I'm making something like once a day no matter how fun it is at the time it gets. really tiring after a bit because I feel like I Have to make things.

- also if I happen to credit something incorrectly also let me know bc most of the credits I use are the same ones on the Tumblr posts I took the text from lol

- I try to do alt text for every image I use!! If something doesn't have alt text let me know!!! Please!! I can't guarantee the most artistic writing for image based alt texts but I will do them!

- I try to keep a consistent look for my posts but sometimes I forget it or I just don't like it for that specific post

- I use mobile almost exclusively especially for these because the only thing I use with desktop Tumblr is an old ass Chromebook from like 2015 and you guys do not want to know how annoying it is to get images onto there. So posts are limited to 10 pictures per post unless I'm really dedicated to getting those images in

- no one ever listens to DNI's so I block people a lot BUT if you want to know it's the basic stuff. DNI homophobes, transphobes, racists, Zionists, bigots, if you're just a general asshole.

Hi! I see a lot of people talking about how artists and writers should reblog their own work, and I'm just wondering how does one get used to doing it? Alternatively, how do you do it so it doesn't annoy your followers? I post loads of fic but only have a handful of followers and I don't want to alienate them. I only post once a day as it is. I think I might be doing things wrong though, please help

with the caveat that I am not a professional with a following I intentionally cultivate:

it is totally okay to spam your own stuff if you want people to see it. it's your blog and your baby that you want to share with the world. if you don't want to be actually annoying and actually spammy with it, it's generally polite to avoid reblogging the same stuff more than once a day, but there's no hard and fast rules on that front. do whatever you want forever, in short.

remember that your followers are following you because they like the stuff you post! that's the only reason anybody has to follow anybody else, is liking the stuff you make and wanting to see it when you post it, so it's okay to post the same thing more than once, especially if it's something you made that you're proud of. if you're not comfy manually reblogging things, or think you might forget about it, the queue is super handy for scheduling posts. works exactly the same as a standard reblog, the options are just next to the post button and let you set it to fall into a random time in your queue, or schedule for a specific time that you pick manually. The screenshot here is from desktop, but mobile has the options too:

when in doubt, you can also write a post reminding your followers to both like and reblog your work if they want to see more work, because more people seeing and liking your work means more followers will eventually come.

I was trying to edit my navigation page within the mobile app and it seems that isn’t possible? My navigation link on my pinned post opens the safari browser preview/pop-up/overlay thing. So I suppose if I want links to work within mobile, I’ll need to make my navigation a post instead.

Annoying but if I link it to my pinned post, I hopefully won’t lose it. I could keep the navigation page too but it’s only accessible through desktop? If I keep it and have a navigation post, that means whenever I update it, I’ll have to do it twice…

My links in posts do open within mobile so I suppose the answer really is to forget pages and just make a post and link it on my pinned post.

I also used to be able to hold a url in the chrome app and have the option to open in Tumblr, but that no longer shows up. Is that a tumblr or chrome issue? I can’t find anything in iphone settings to address that. Feel like it went away when I updated my phone software.

i really don’t use tumblr mobile that much, especially now that the ads have become so numerous and miserable, but i pull it up sometimes when i’m waiting in line or something, and i have to say, there has been one huge benefit to their absolutely enraging stupid twee ad campaign for their own merch etc, and it’s that now whenever i get an ad for candy crush or some completely inscrutable nonsense i feel relieved and happy to see it

the worst part is that blocking the accounts doesn’t hide ads on tumblr and they’ve disabled comments like cowards on the posts so i can’t even tell them to go fuck themselves with their cringe ~we’re so self aware and quirky don’t you love the hellsite~ garbage and just show me ads for weird mobile games or whatever the fuck bc i’m never going to give you money and i have adblock on desktop like a normal person

probably end up just uninstalling mobile from my phone so i don’t forget how annoying the stupid pop ups and ads for tumblr socks or whatever the fuck while theyre trying to pretend to be my friend are and open the app while waiting for a bus or whatever again

like i don’t even begrudge them running ads, i get that servers don’t pay for themselves or whatever but the new wave of incredibly annoying and repetitive tumblr ads ON tumblr has genuinely alienated me from this site and made me want to see them fail like nothing else, at least the female presenting nipples shit was funny

8 Mistakes to Avoid While Writing the Perfect Ending to Your Novel

Is the ending of your novel the most excruciatingly difficult part of the writing process? Is it the most hair-pulling, mind-racking, maddening last step that almost puts paid to the idea of finishing the thing at all? Maybe. 

It’s difficult. The ending is so important. It's your reader's last impression of the book and it will do exactly that—last.

Just like with the opening to your novel, there is no single formula to follow that works across all genres, but there are some common mistakes you can avoid to make sure your ending is as satisfying and memorable as possible.

What's the aim of your ending?

Simple:

To last in your reader's mind, and 

For the story to feel complete. 

You want your reader chewing over the ending long after they've put your book down. Whether it’s a happy ending they are pleased about, a moral learning that sticks in their brain, or an ambiguity that lingers as they consider what will come next. Whichever of these common ending tropes you use, you want your story to feel 'complete'. To achieve this, there are some things you really shouldn't be doing:

1. Don't close with your first idea.

Don't finish your novel with the first idea you have to end it. Your first idea is probably also your reader's first idea. Dig deep and consider ways to end your novel that are a little more unexpected. You know your characters and their backstory, think about ways to resolve the conflict of the novel in a way that feels a little fresh. The best way to do this is ditch your first idea. And maybe your second too.

2. Don't end with a cliffhanger.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that ending on a cliff-hanger is a valid way to end a novel. However, do not do this with all plot and sub-plot points. And do it with caution.

Your reader needs to feel satisfied, so leaving one of the plot points on a cliff-hanger, even when done well, may not be appreciated. However, it does have the potential to be the perfect bait to lure readers for the next in the series. To 'do this well' you have to be very intentional. You need to leave them wanting more but with enough resolution around the rest of the story that they find it exciting rather than frustrating. It's tricky, but possible if you decide this is the absolute best way to end.

3. Don't resolve everything in the last three pages.

Whilst some resolution may be best kept right up until the last couple of the pages, you do not need to do this for every sub-plot point. Spend the last couple of chapters of your novel resolving some of the smaller plot points and save the most meaningful and full circle stuff until the end. This will make the resolutions for each of those much more satisfying than a lightning-speed ride through all revelations jammed into the last three pages.

4. Don't spell it out for your audience.

Just like in the opening to your novel, you need to give your reader some credit and not labour the points. Be subtle in the conclusions you want them to draw. Show, don't tell. 

5. Don't make it too improbable.

There is nothing more frustrating than investing your time in a novel to find that the ending is at best, improbable, at worst, entirely unbelievable. If you are writing sci-fi you may have a little more leeway here (although I think the advice still holds). There are no hard rules, particularly with more fantastical genres, but the same still applies: the ending should be something perfectly probable in the world you have created.

If your superhero mysteriously develops a new skill ten pages before the end that resolves all plot points...that's annoying. If your MC has a habit of sabotaging all personal relationships with the same behaviors, that then happen to disappear just in time for the end...eugh. If someone or something is struck by lightning!? No.

Things that are just a little too lucky are pretty irritating to a reader. Within whatever rules exist for the world of your novel, the perfect resolution should become obvious in hindsight. Your reader should be able to look back and say, yeah, that makes sense, even if they couldn't have predicted it themselves.  Even if your ending is supremely fantastical, it has to be foreshadowed, you have to lay the groundwork for that to make sense.

6. Don't let your story fizzle out.

Don't put in a novel's worth of foreshadowing only to decide not to have any of the plot points come to fruition. If it seems like your MC is going to have to face their biggest fear and then in the end they actually just move to another country instead, that isn't going to be very satisfying.

7. Don't think about the end only at the end.

Always have the end in sight—lay the foundation. If you are going to pull the rug from under your reader with a twist, be subtle but do leave the markers in the text for them to see in hindsight. If you are going to come full circle back to the opening, guide them back round to that denouement. If you are going for happily ever after, make sure you foreshadow the hope you want you readers to have for that resolution. Most of the work for the novel ending is in the marathon middle.

8. Don't neglect the beginning.

All novels are going to have a central conflict introduced in the beginning.  This is the driving force for the whole book and it absolutely cannot be neglected. Make sure you consider very carefully whether the question or conflict you have posed to your reader in the beginning has been satisfactorily resolved.

Avoid these mistakes and you'll be well on your way to a great story. Take a look at your favorite books. Which do you remember most and how did they end? What happened in the last chapter/last few pages/last few lines?

fives might be the most i’ve ever struggled with a character (‘cept maybe ahsoka....) so it took a little while to figure out how to write this scene in a way i liked. also, had to go and watch fives clips to try and get my autism brain working, and BOY HOWDY do i actually hate dbb’s take on the clones, especially the accent but everything else too. their character designs make me want to cry. so i’m begging, for me, to imagine this fives like this especially because then we get Tol Anakin and a Smol Clone BF and i think that is a seriously underutilised dynamic.

  Echo's always been good with programming, but Fives is better with the actual building. He's not any good with inventing, maybe, but putting things together? Opening them up and knowing immediately what's wrong? Fives would even say he enjoys it — and being able to talk shop with Skywalker like they're nobody mechanics from the Outer Rim instead of General and Soldier makes the long hyperjumps between missions actually bearable. 

  How that led to him sitting in a rarely used hallway on the Resolute with Skywalker ("Anakin," he keeps insisting with a smile), both leant over a mouse droid in pieces on a drop cloth, Fives isn't really sure. It probably had something to do with Skywalker's excited bounce when he'd come to ask if Fives wanted to help him, the sparkle in his eye reminding Fives just how young the both of them are. How, technically, he's older than Anakin.

  Because, yeah, he is Anakin, not Skywalker, when they're like this. With his growing knight cut a curly untamed cloud around his ears, grease smeared on the underside of his jaw, with Fives stripped down to his blacks from the waist up, with even his blasters set on the floor next to them. 

  With it quickly becoming clear that Anakin doesn't actually need help to rewire the mouse droid, but had asked for Fives to join him anyways.

  They've been at it for a few hours now, their jokes winding down to companionable quiet as they both work on separate parts of the droid. It honestly might have been easier to start from a scrap droid than try to rewire this one correctly, but it's easy work Fives could do blindfolded, and sharing the mutually-focused silence is actually quite nice.

  Anakin is elbow-deep in the outer casing when he finally asks, "Do the clones feel love?"

  And Fives almost gets up and walks away. He knows not every battalion ended up with a good Jedi, that the 212th and the 501st had been so kriffing lucky to end up with "The Team", but sometimes he forgets. Maybe that's the worst part of it: slow, personal moments like this, Fives forgets he's not natborn and bearer of a face shared with millions. Being around his general makes him forget, and maybe he had taken that for granted until now.

  Or maybe it's for that reason that he hesitates from storming off, because Anakin had been the one to name Alpha, to insist on giving them proper leave, to defend them from anyone who talks down at them even if they're a planetary leader. And Rex had said something, once, about Anakin’s brain working in either/ors, being hardwired in some way to only see in black and white and believing that if you're one thing, you can't be another. That what Anakin says isn't always what he means.

  So instead, he asks, "What kind of love are we talkin'?"

  Anakin refuses to raise his head, and Fives can almost see him stressing about how to phrase this.  "Y'know, grand romance and stuff. One-and-onlys and holodrama romcom propaganda and imagining growing old together."

  "'Not quite sure what you're asking, sir." He takes a deep breath. "The short answer is yes, we can and do feel that, but the long answer is I can't speak for every brother, and I would not want to. Some of us don't feel that." Shrugging, he passes Anakin a socket wrench before he can ask for it. "But it's not because we can't, not because of the longnecks. We're bred to be obedient, sir, not emotionless."

  Quiet settles over them again while Anakin processes this, his mouth twisted rather horribly. Fives starts to think he would do a whole awful lot to turn that frown back into a haughty smile. 

  "What do you really want to ask, General?"

  "I'm married to Senator Amidala."

  Now, everyone with eyes knows that. Maybe Torrent knows even better, when they've been covering for their general for over a year now, and clearly the Jedi just aren't doing anything about it — but Fives also knows Anakin has never actually told anyone about this, not even General Kenobi. Rex says Anakin still thinks they've been discreet.

  "If I may be blunt, sir, this is not news."

  And Anakin actually laughs at that, shaking his head as he tosses down his tools to stare at the opposite wall instead. Fives watches his gaze go distant, somewhere far away from the Resolute lost in the middle of space. “I’ve loved her since I was nine years old, Fives. I loved her through not seeing her for a decade, through her assassination attempts and the First Battle of Geonosis and becoming a knight, and I...”

  Fives sighs once. “No one said you had to stay in love, sir.”

  “But that’s just it,” he groans. “I’ve never known how to do anything else, how to be anything else. I don’t... know who I am without it.”

  He has to look away from Anakin, then, because he’s seen brothers go stupid for people they meet on campaigns, or for their Jedi, and Fives isn’t nearly as young as some of the shinies out there, but he knows what it looks like, when they leap in without thinking. He lets out a long, slow breath, his eyes falling on the ‘saber at Anakin’s hip. “Permission to speak freely, sir?”

  Anakin blinks at him, and nods.

  “That’s too young to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life.” Fives raises a brow at his general’s startled expression, which is maybe more amusing (endearing) than it has any business being. “General, you’re barely an adult, just the same as the vode. If my mental timeline is right, you weren’t even twenty standard when you married Amidala, which, frankly, was reckless and unfair on her part.”

  “Padmé would never–”

  “I don’t mean intentionally, sir. The fact of the matter is, no wonder you don’t know who you are without her, because you’ve always had her.” That decade of no contact notwithstanding, considering Anakin didn’t not have her, either. “Senator Amidala knew who and what she was before you, and she’ll know who and what she is without you.”

  “That’s not quite fair,” Anakin grumbles, but his throat is flushed in what Fives hopes is entirely appropriate guilt, or at the very least embarrassment. “It was my idea to get married after Geonosis.”

  Fives snorts. “The idea of a child thrown into war, afraid to lose anything.”

  “You’re being uncharacteristically candid, Fives.”

  “Respectfully, sir, the last thing you need is to be coddled.” His general laughs again, this time good and bright in a way he hasn’t heard before; and then Fives can’t help what he admits next. “We weren’t allowed toys, or anything.”

  Laughter cutting off abruptly, Anakin’s eyes grow haunted instead. There might not be anyone else in the galaxy with quite the same experience as the clones, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t those that understand.

  “Hevy made me and Echo– Well, he said they were mythosaurs like Kal taught us about, but they looked more like sad loth cats. He cut up his own bedsheet to make ‘em, and couldn’t tell the longnecks what he’d done with it, so he just slept on the bare mattress.”

  “Fives...”

  But it’s clear Anakin doesn’t actually know what to say, so Fives pushes on. “Some of Fett’s instructors tried to teach us Mando’a, you know? I think Spar is the only brother that ever got fluent, the rest of us have been making up words and combining them with Basic and Kaminoan and whatever else the Cuy’val Dar spoke that sometimes we don’t even remember what language they are anymore.”

  “I didn’t learn Basic until I was five.” Anakin thunks his head onto the wall behind him with a sigh, the mouse droid forgotten at his feet. “Other padawans always told me I was lucky Master Obi-Wan knew Huttese.” Ahh, kark, his general had been a Hutt salve; at least the spice runners made sure their slaves could communicate with their customers. “I couldn’t read a word of Aurebesh when I first came to the Temple, though to be fair, I couldn’t read anything else, either.”

  “You grow up around other kids?”

  “Yeah, my mom and I lived in the biggest slave slum on Tatooine.”

  Fives doesn’t need to tell him how lucky he was just to have had their own quarters. “I think, sir, that the vode know better than you think, what it’s like always standing on the edge of losing everything.”

  Squeezing his eyes closed, Anakin inhales sharply and clenches his fists over his knees. “What happened? To your mythosaur toys?”

  “One of the longnecks found them while we were in training, ‘threw them out before we got back. I think Hevy was even more upset than we were.”

  The leather glove over his prosthesis creaks as he tightens his grip on his own palms. “Was it easy? To just... forget about them?”

  “Of course not,” Fives snorts and crosses his arms, “we were the equivalent of eight standard at the time, but we honestly didn’t have a choice. As we got a little older, we stopped trying to put meaning in things, because we weren’t allowed things. Our names are our only real possession, even our armor can be taken from us, but we will not, cannot, let anyone take our names.”

  Groaning, Anakin scrubs his hands over his face before pushing himself up to finally look at Fives properly. He still doesn’t speak for a moment, just watching him, then teases flatly, “You’ve been spending too much time with Cody and Obi-Wan, you’re starting to speak in riddles.”

  “They are riddles only to you, sir.” He offers a small smile, and is only slightly disappointed when Anakin doesn’t return it.

  Instead, he lets out a winded breath. “So. You’re saying that it’s not easy to let go of even small things, but we must. And then there are things that we shouldn’t let go of?”

  “Some things aren’t ours to keep.”

  Anakin swallows. “Like Padmé,”

  “Like any person, no matter what sort of love we have for them.”

  Groaning, Anakin pulls his knees back up close and drops his face into his arms. “But I still love her.”

  Knowing that this is not a new problem, that General Kenobi has been trying to teach his general this for as long as they’ve known each other, Fives takes a moment to consider. “You don’t really have to stop loving her.”

  “But you said–”

  “You think I stop loving my brothers when they die?”

  Whether or not it’s healthy to hold onto affections for someone after a romantic relationship is a conversation for another time, Fives decides, and leans over to pick up where Anakin had left off with the droid.

  “General, it sounds to me like you already know all this,” he says, twisting a wire into the grip of his glove to yank it from the motor. “And  that you’re digging your feet in — which is the crux of the problem, isn’t it?”

  “You sound like Obi-Wan,” he groans, but doesn’t deny it.

  “Hmm, well, at least we’re still just kids.”

  Anakin very slowly looks up from his arms, just enough for Fives to see his wide eyes. “What do you...?”

  “Well, we’ve still got time to learn, don’t we?” Fives raises his eyebrow as he fits the new wire into the motor and starts to close all the panels back up. “I still think about Hevy and Droidbait and Cutup, and honestly, I still think about Echo’s and my mythosaurs. That’s not a bad thing, I don’t think, not even the Jedi would think that’s bad. I’m still angry when my vode don’t get funerals and I honestly hold that against the Chancellor and the Jedi both. But I don’t get to go back to Kamino and take my anger out on the longneck that took our toys, and I’m... working on it, not being so angry with the generals. I’m still angry. But I know the Jedi have about as much say in all of this as we do, and I know burying my brothers won’t bring them back. So I’m working on it.”

  “I... don’t have to be good at it all at once.”

  “Great Maker, General, just because you’re the Chosen One doesn’t mean you have to actually be good at absolutely everything from the start. You just have to try, and you still have time to.”

  He looks up and finds Anakin already smiling back. “Fives, I could kiss you.”

  “Considering it sounds like Senator Amidala just divorced you, I think that’s a very bad idea, sir.”

  “Bah, you’re no fun.”

  Fives feigns offense, “This mouse droid we’ve rigged to follow Captain Rex around and scream says differently.”

This is a bit long... so I’ll just add the break not to bother people with my ramblings. 

1. Why did you choose your url? I created tumblr because of a fanfic, and I've been reading them since I was 11. And I will always love fanfic. Fanfic is the answer to all life's problems and bad canons. I can't imagine living in the world where I don't have fanfic to continue a world I love or to fix issues in a world that was promising, or just to wait until the next bit of canon came out. You have to imagine I started reading fanfic when there were only 2 Harry Potter books available and I was waiting for the translation of the third one (that came out end of 2000, and yes I was reading fics by then). So yeah... I wanted something related to fanfics, and I really am terrible about online identities. Probably should've used something more creative, but oh well. I like it well enough now, it is one that applies to all fandoms I love.

2. Any side-blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them. Yes, I have @randomsideposts as my attempt to create a tag system and save my favorite posts. I failed. I also have @kenshin-and-maki for my cats, and a third unnamed one as sort of a journal/vent blog, for those times I just need to write stuff down and I don't want to keep things to myself. No one follows me and that's the way I like it. It's kind of dark.

3. How long have you been on tumblr? A year and a half only lol a baby by Tumblr standards.

4: Do you have a queue tag? Me? Organization? What? Jokes aside, I don't really like queueing stuff. I'm either here or I'm not. I'll schedule a post for a random future time, just so I don't forget the post, but a time I know I'll be online to interact with it/the reactions to it. I do that when (for example) Louis posts and I see posts that are not related to that that I'd like to reblog, but not right at that moment.

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place? Because of a cute Larry fic where Louis and Harry become mutuals without knowing they're the other one. I liked the dynamic they described of how Tumblr worked and I wanted to see if it really was like that, because my previous experiences with Tumblr were... confusing enough that I didn't stick around for more than 20 minutes.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp? It's Louis and Liam, who are definitely my favorites. Don't get me wrong, I love all the boys, but Liam and Louis (and their friendship) are just really special to me. And this pic is just... so cute. Also, @whatagreatproblemtohave and @evilovesyou demanded either me or @promisethatillnevertell change our profile picture, and that we should duel to see who would keep it because it was getting confusing lol (it was one of the outtakes of the House of Solo photoshoot). I would never fight Lou so I changed it. And I love it because it has my two boys 😁💕

7. Why did you choose your header? Because the livestream was so awesome and even if it's blurry i like it. Also, I never use the desktop version of Tumblr so it's probably a mess, but I like what I see on my mobile so it'll stay.

8. Whats your post with the most notes? Probably my Youtube comments about Louis? I know it has over 1k notes, which... wow.  Also, my little wistful post about keeping the livestream format after lockdown did ok too.

9. How many mutuals do you have? No clue, but I love them all.

10. How many followers do you have? 900 or so.

11. How many people do you follow? 654 blogs

12. Have you ever made a shitpost? Who hasn't?

13. How often do you use tumblr a day? No clue, dozens of times. I won't scroll too far down, just enough to distract me for a couple minutes while I'm waiting for something to load or if my brain needs a break from work.

14. Did you once have a fight/argument with another blog once? Who won? I've argued before with a Liam blog at the end of the LP Show 2, but it was a misunderstanding, I didn't express myself the way I wanted to. Pretty sure a bunch of Liam blogs have me blocked because of it still. Other than that, I'm pretty peaceful, and I really try to just stay out of drama.

15. How do you feel about “you need to reblog” posts? I hate them. It is a passive aggressive way of someone thinking their opinion is better than yours, usually has a comment like "if you don't reblog you don't care about this" or "I don't care if it doesn't fit my blog asthetic, I'll reblog it anyway". Congrats? Do you want a star for it? I'll reblog it if I think it has important information, despite these annoying comments, but only once. If it's a post I've seen multiple times, then everyone saw it multiple times.

16. Do you like tag games? Love them, but recently I've been a bit lax. Once you start saving them in your drafts, it snowballs into unmanageable levels.

17. Do you like ask games? I love them, but whenever I reblog one I only get 1 or 2 asks. :(

18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous? I... don't really care enough about that to keep track lol

let’s talk commission stuff!

hey folks !!  so i’ve been reorganizing myself to get commissions back on track, and i’ve got some things i’d like to get your input on, if it isn't too much trouble !! ;v;

a slightly too long tl;dr because apparently this is a 10min read (i'm so sorry): commission revamp on the works! no date for it yet. gonna be easing myself back with just icons for a while at first (no date for that either thoug, not yet), then the revamp will be in full swing with all the other commission options, and the pricetable for them will be changed in the future as well. 

some questions: 

1) i’m rethinking commission types, is there anything you’d like to see as a new option?  2) considering i tend to open only a handful slots every batch, i'm thinking about implementing a waitlist (with a bit of a twist: it's split between Current Batch and Next Batch; a little more complicated than a regular ol' waitlist, allows me to get through some of the waitlist queue as work gets done). would that interest you or is it too much of a headache? 100% open to suggestions! 3) i’m organizing a board on trello for commission stuffs !! any suggestions or specific things you’d like to see there?

i don’t have a reopening date yet, but i’m planning on opening only icons for a while to ease back into the process. later on, i'll open the other commission options too. you see, i’m working on a full revamp of the whole thing, including the terms of service and that info image with the examples (because looking back, i think it no longer really represents my current style and how i really do commissions in terms of just... plain old rendering and polishing), so i’ll be working on new drawings and a new layout too, and all that good jazz :D

for full disclosure, along with this overhaul of the terms and such, i will be updating prices too c: i’m still working on the new values though, since i need to figure out what commission types/options the overhaul will have. which brings me to the first question here: what would you like to see as a commission option? for reference, here’s the og options:

also, one more thing i’d like to note about this revamp situation: there isn’t a whole lot that’s changing really haha it’s just been a long, long time since i last did commissions, so i’m reviewing terms and i might change stuff that’s become outdated, or that needs clarification. if you’ve commissioned me before, the process itself is still the same so no worries! once the revamp is out, i’ll point out anything that has changed too c:

in regards to price changes, those first icon-only batches will be in their original price, and the new prices will only take effect once the revamp with the other options is out. it will be quite a while before until that, but if you have any concerns, feel free to message me any time ! either way, i’ll keep you folks posted !! i guess i also could post the new prices before implementing them, if that helps!

so, moving on! now to the waitlist situation <:3c as in, i’ve never had one, a while back someone asked if i did, and now that i’m reorganizing things, i’m wondering if it would be good to implement one :3c feel free to send any questions !! or suggestions!! i'm all ears!!!

usually i only open a handful of slots for each batch, right, and once they're all claimed, the commissions are closed until all the slots are finished. folks who missed the slots have to wait until the next batch, and sometimes those batches take a while to come back, and i usually just message those who missed the opening once the new batch is announced.

what i'm thinking for the waitlist is, i'll open it along with the batch of commissions, and limit it to a specific number of spots or close it by a specific date, whichever comes first. to apply for it, people would just need to send the form and i can tell them immediately whether or not i can draw their request, and then they'll be placed on the waitlist in the order they’ve been accepted c: pretty standard stuff.

here’s the important bit: that list is basically split in two. the first handful of people on the list, corresponding to the amount of slots for the current batch, will be reached out to as i finish working on the claimed slots, and then anyone else on the waitlist will be contacted shortly before the next batch. if, by the time the list closes, not all the opened slots have been claimed, folks on the list will simply be moved up the queue accordingly c: all of it would be discussed individually, of course, and very well disclosed in the commission info!

there are other points to it as well: anyone would be able to request a spot on the next batch's waitlist instead of the current one, and anyone can leave either list at any point. folks who had already claimed a slot when it first opened would only be able to apply for the next batch's waitlist (to give everyone a chance of getting one), and people on the list, either for the current or the next round of commissions, can be skipped up to a limit if they're unable to continue the order once i get to them.

oh and, before i forget, with the waitlist in place, i think i’d no longer be able to put slots on hold as i used to (as in, before paying the first invoice), as it’d be unfair to folks on the list. in that case, the person would be placed on the list as well if they want to, and contacted as soon as possible : )

also the "up to 2 slots per person" thing would be on thin ice too haha

anyway, this is kind of what i intended to do back then, with reopening slots as work gets finished, but never got around to. i want to make sure i don’t swamp myself with work, but also have it so that folks who want slots have a good chance of getting them, whether for the current batch or the next, as there's only so many slots i can open and work on at once, and time zones and irl things are to be considered too for anyone interested c:

it also makes it easier for me to keep track of messaging folks about new slots and such, and the list would be made public and easily available for consulting too : D more on this later!

so how's this looking? i've never done waitlists before and barely knew how they're supposed to work before starting to reorganize things, so please do feel free to voice your thoughts !! i’m 100% open to suggestions !!! do you think this system would work out for you? any concerns? if anything is unclear feel free to point it out, i'll do my best to explain the process or change stuff that doesn't quite work!!

so!!! now to the very last thing i wanted to talk about ! trello! 

i’m making a little trello board for updates on commission stuff! my commission info page here on tumblr and on deviantart both have this little section for updates on each slot’s progress, but i admittedly didn't do a good job keeping them updated (and constantly updating two things in different places just. kinda sucks.), so i’ve been diving into trello to unify that update section in one place and keep things nice and organized and transparent : ) it would be super useful for keeping track of the waitlist too, if that becomes a thing, or for updates on commission status and such!

so far i’m only testing things out, so it’s looking like this right now (sorry for the tiny image!):

with all those little lists, the “available slots” and “sketch” and “lineart” and whatnot, i would be moving the card along the process : D and adding the appropriate labels, of course

this way i can have those halfsteps labelled too (working on/halfway through/finishing), since there’s only so many colors i can use without making it confusing (and tbh i’m already not too thrilled about color labels as it is, but it beats typing each individual status, and i’d imagine it’s more readable for folks consulting the list as well)

i really like how this looks so far in terms of organization but i’m unsure if the horizontal scrolling is anything but annoying, specially to folks on mobile (with the way i divide my screen on desktop, it certainly isn’t ideal either), so if you have any experience with that, feel free to let me know your thoughts!! there are a thousand different ways to organize this, and this is all a work in progress too c:
