There’s a moment of silence between us, it was awkward, the room was hot and he was drenched in sweat. My eyes slowly scanned him, trying to fully process what was going on.

“I need to stay busy until this goes away.”

“I’ll let you—” I spoke, turning to leave.

“No.” He rushed out. “Please. Stay.”

“I don’t want to fuck you like this.”

Jayden's brows furrowed, as he quickly blinked. “I’m not high, Alright? I can consent, god, I’m so fucking sober." He spoke quickly.

ive been really trying to think about that hard, since comparing the characters to those in fairytales and ballets tended to skew the story a bit.

and uh... my descriptions wont be the best.. im not the best at explaining things in ballet terms moreso just based on my perception of the art form and what i see in it through my eyes.

also im gonna go off of the concept that ultradanse is almost like a stage performance, a show

the most i can do to describe how it looks is to compare it to my vision for the first encounter with Odile/V1... because of the way i designed his lil costume he has a sort of princely look, and even though hes yknow. out to kill V1 because V1 traversed past his warnings, his dancing with V1 then is much more... poised. it might feel a bit distant, maybe it might even seem like hes unsatisfied doing it, as at the time there is no personal connection with V1, no love nor hatred. its not romantic, hardly so. i dont know if this is a good example, but i was thinking abt Prince Siegfried's dancing in Waltz: Tempo di valse...

once V1 is pretty much responsible for his 2-week notice, i like to think Nightingale/Gabriel starts to match V1's high energy, his grace is kinda going out the window... itd be much more intense. if its a pas de deux hes probably getting his fucking hands all over them like hes about to tear them apart. hes abandoning that princely facade. i feel like though in the second half a pas de deux between them would make them slow their pace. now that both of them are dancing together and able to match intensity, it starts to slow down into something more... romantic? yeah :3 i like to think this, this is where any romantic tension starts

now about how he changes from the gilded nightingale to the nightingale. you see... after their second encounter, Gabriel is convinced hes going to die, after all thats what he was told. once he returns from heaven, he seeks out V1 to ask of one final request. he doesn't want to die lonely, and asks V1 to dance with him until the final hour runs out. V1 has no reason to accept his request, other than something pulling at it do so and the possibility it could take a little bit more blood before he's gone. dancing together, progressively Gabriel becomes weaker and weaker.

i REALLY wanted to keep this secret for a scene i wanted to draw but honeeesttlyyyy i dont think its too bad if i share it. after all, im not sharing V1's feelings here. im sharing Gabriel's :3

i had this whole.. plan

my thing abt pas de deuxs is that. i like to find symbolism in the fact that traditionally, the male dancer is supposed to support the ballerina to be able to perform moves she typically wouldnt be able to on her own without someone holding her.

towards the end of their dance, V1 switches positions to hold and uplift Gabriel instead, who has this entire time been in the place of the male dancer. in his approaching final moments V1 lays him down on the ground. he's hardly moving, and V1 holds onto him, finding itself not wanting him to just... disappear.

now im still figuring out HOW i want this to work. but i thought abt V1 in desperation, grasping onto the sides of his helmet and ripping his helmet in half being the symbolic thing that sets him free. the thing about the gilded nightingale, is that the armor is the bird's cage. Gabriel's design in this AU only really has the helmet and no other armor, so it just... makes sense to me. this is what sets him free. how the transformation works though? i am.. still thinking about it. you might need to give me a bit to think about that

i have to be up in like 3 hours so naturally i wrote a whole fuckin essay about splatoon 3 storymode plotholes (dumping here)

mannnn i keep thinking about like. the lore info gained from rise of the mammalians is soooooooooo so good but the actual Story is. like not very good at all. i think it is the weakest story mode in splatoon thus far.

-mr grizz stealing octavios army makes very little sense and comes off as an excuse to not design new enemies (would make way more sense & be cooler to have fucked up goop mammal experiments imo like can u imagine)

-despite his army being stolen octavio is nowhere to be found for the entire story except the very end, and then he just disappears again after the final boss

-why did grizz need cuttlefishs brain. it is never clarified what purpose that served.

-bigfry??? i am not as mad at this cuz its easy for me to rationalize like "he ate all that fucked up goop so thats why :)" but its not actually explained how/why that happened . seems like a missed opportunity to have a sunken scroll foreshadowing about like "in salmonid folktales theres a legend about a smallfry growing huge when..." etc etc. thinking abt it it could also just be a parallel to taht one japanese folktale of the fish that became a dragon (magikarp/gyrados inspiration for example) maybe ??? idk tho youd think that for a series thats so in depth with its lore itd be less out of the blue (i say that but a lot of stuff in rotm is indeed very Out Of The Blue lol)

-all the "save our salmon" foreshadowing during splatoon 2 being completely forgotten. i was really hoping rotm focusing on mr grizz as an antagonist would serve to also tell the salmonids story, and liberate them in a way like how octo expansion did for octolings. but i guess thats been discarded. unsurprising since salmon run is so popular; it makes sense theyd want to set them up as longterm enemies now instead. i cant complain too much since its my fav game mode lolllll.

-deep cut felt very shoehorned in. they had no connection to the actual plot happening at all and didnt really do anything other than be boss battles. even wen they do join your side they just serve as navigators, a position already fulfilled by callie & marie. at first i wasnt super worried cuz off the hook didnt get any story attention at all till octo expansion came out, but since side order seems to focus on off the hook & 8 again i worry that deep cut's time in the spotlight has passed and theyve been sidelined.

worth noting i think theres a few traits that are pretty universal to them? wants to do right and full of love are the big two, tho curiosity, (seeming) warmth, and ability to fit in w/those around them are also pretty important tho i think more flexible. its just fun the way various sols can have those traits like.... manifest? an alien-hater sol who goes hunting all the time is just as valid as a sol dating dys that wants to end the war. just different ppl they love and different experiences. its fun

1) solana (she/her (demi?)girl, loyalty leaning lawyer, neutral end)

baby’s first run! outwardly warm but pretty cold inside. hypercompetent everywhere except in her love life. fell for tang when they were like nine on the ship and just sort of, never stopped, feeling that way, including when she was 100 years old and had outlived tang by nearly forty years, partially bc fixating on tang as people were dying was kind of. the only solace she had. wouldve really benefited from a good therapist.

2) solanaceae (he/him tguy, governor, peace ending)

childhood optimist with a hero complex turned "realist” but actually-exactly-the-same-just-depressed-about-it adult. saves tammy and tonin and hal! cannot save his parents :) grows a little distant from most of the people around him as a result, except dys, who Gets it. avoids tang for pretty much no reason he can understand, just has a sense of She Will Hurt You If You Get Too Close when he sees her sometimes. becomes governor solely bc he wants to save people. the kind of person you can trust in your house with your keys and your valuables and then someone asks ‘hey whats his favorite color’ and youre like. i dont. actually know

3) solane (they/them nb, gardener ending)

manic overconfident freak. definitely a ‘i wont tell people about my dreams bc it’s like i’m a HERO this way!’ type. saves everyone and extremely proud about it. coasting through life from ages 14-19 until they go find dys after the bomb has gone off and he’s dating. someone else? which makes them freak out bc THEYRE the hero. so instead of being normal about this they become a gardener in a desperate attempt not to be left behind

4) solanaceae (he/him cisguy, colonial hero, neutral ending) x / x

this is the one ive been referring to in private as “fascist manwhore sol” and honestly. yeah. just as overconfident as the last but extremely charming about it. the kind of guy you kinda wanna hit but also can’t help but like? somehow manages to be close w/most everyone in the colony despite their various opinions. really really hates the gardeners + even sym, for some reason w/in himself that he can’t explain. 

in Love with dys for most of their lives but cant ever make it work, fwb with rex, dates vace despite having matching tattoos with his ex-gf. hes just that kind of guy. dies young and a hero, less than a year after dys disappears into the ridges. dont think abt it too hard.

5) solane (she/her nb, neutral end, roboticist on accident somehow but a social skills job wouldve fit much better)

if third sol Thinks theyre god this sol like. actually Is. extremely clear dreams, used to talk abt them pretty much always until her first trip to medbay, at which point she stopped ever letting adults know. kind of existentially exhausted as a result. using this life literally just as a coffeeshop au lol. poly but also probably aromantic; open rship w/rex, who they love a lot but no more so than literally any of their other friends. pretty happy with stuff! 

until they go to see dys off when he “vanishes” from the colony and they accidentally let it drop they couldve like. ended the whole war. he’s. displeased. they still make an effort to enjoy the rest of their life but when they die theyre thinking abt how they should try to be a better person next time. and also hoping they remember less.

6) solanaceae (genderfluid but generally refers to self as a lesbian, peace end, botanist) x

cheerful heroine! desperately wants to be normal and tries so so hard to ignore her dreams, which works kind of, right up until they very purposefully ignores the one abt tammy and tammy dies immediately after :) at which point they completely switches gears and uses their dreams to try and save Everyone they can. bffs with nem since childhood & into her pretty much Always. everyone’s friend! dies content and at peace.

interestingly, bc this is the route where i got paradox ending on a save, probably the sol closest to the wormhole + everything about it, despite not actually remembering much from his dreams. it manifests in other ways. lol.

7) solane (she/her cisgirl, neutral end, roboticist)

coward who can only be brave when it’s for the sake of the people she loves, most notably tammy who she actually dislikes until she saves her life, at which point she realizes maybe she Can be a hero too. better with robots than people, spent most of her childhood following cal around bc he was one of hte only ppl to make time for her. falls madly in love w/tammy; their family is her biggest joy. a good parent.

8) solanaceae (he/him agender, neutral end, doctor)

feral intense child who becomes a terrifying eagle-eyed doctor. max perception by age eleven, somehow. STRONG sense of justice. strongest belief is “if you ignore someone you couldve saved, you’re garbage.” not quite high enough friendship w/nem to convince her to leave vace as teens; helps her later on when theyre adults. years and years later after dys “dies” they end up moving in and spend the rest of their lives together.

9) solanaceae (they/them nb, peace end, entertainer)

awkward ace kid who always speaks their mind. accidentally destroys tammy’s confidence every time they talk. gets confessed to by both marz and rex, shoots them down extremely awkwardly due to both aforementioned asexuality and the fact theyve had a crush on dys since they were thirteen. takes their promise to let him go seriously to the point that when he tries to bomb hte colony, they let him, and when he wants to be a gardener, they don’t stand in his way. is alright with this at first but slowly begins to feel lonelier and lonelier about it as time passes, and when they die and realize they won’t actually be with him again they feel. Very Bad. pass on wishing they’d not let him go but resenting him for asking to.

10) solane (she/her cisgirl, neutral end, xeno wrangler)

ive been calling this one “cuckoo bird sol” for a reason. desperately wants someone to be devoted to Her and Her Alone who Won’t Leave, and feels like. cal is good for that. doesn’t like tammy as a result, which means that when she has a nightmare abt tammy dying she doesn't even care, it’s not like its REAL. yeah. It’s Bad! she feels guilty abt it and then feels bad bc she’s also happy bc cal spends more time with her but also she does sure feel like shes competing against a dead girl huh! so! that’s fun!

eventually she does work her shit out and realize she does like cal himself and does want kids on her own terms but like. the process of getting there! one fucked up kid. dies more content than she realized she could be, glad for her family.

11) solanaceae (she/her nb leaning, peace end, parent) x

rowdy. her heart is 80% love and 20% pure unadulterated rage. unaugmented, which she personally doesnt care abt, but she sure does get pissed off at ppl trying to be soooo nice to her abt it! too busy w/sfc stuff during wet and as such completely misses her chance to talk dys out of the bomb. when she finds him on the ridges afterwards they yell at each other abt being in love w/each other for forever and she manages to drag him back home.

in some ways this would be my “golden run” (full friendship with everyone) (jesus christ) but despite that her actual bffs besides dys are tammy and (unfortunately) vace. in another world i would retcon this to ot3 but in this one she kissed sym and then he died in front of her and despite herself she kind of cant stop flinching away from him now if he tries to make a move. they do hinge poly instead it works. has a boatload of kids and never augments any of them. dies exhausted and delighted and in love w/the world. 

12) solane (he/him cisguy, peace ending, parent oops)

delusion run! sol who cant stop talking abt his delusions even when he knows he should. pursues dys in the “we were In Love before so we will be again!” way not the “i like you!” way until he gets. y’know. lobotomized. in some ways not focusing on his dreams is good for him but also he loses a lot of his personality? focus? afterwards

teases tammy relentlessly but ends up falling for her but bc for some reason this run glitched and tammy’s pregnancy just. kept going. she never had the kid? so i didnt date her even tho he wouldve lol. tbh most of th ending for this one is what id consider noncanon for him but ill retcon it later when i have more Vibes in place

13) solanaceae (they/he, peace ending, astronaut) this is a dead dove run (mentions of abuse)

unlucky number thirteen :) sol coming out of a delusion run with the creeping sense that they should not trust Anyone with their secrets. a little disconnected from the ppl around them tho they get on well enough w/dys and tang. madly in love with the wormhole. desperate to get off the planet and back into space so they can see it, a sentiment no one shares until, y’know. vace.

in Love (lol) with him after his 50. first time theyve ever met anyone they think Gets them so they enable him. fucking crushed when he starts dating nem. when he offers to cheat they take him up on it, which means he learns nothing and they lose one of their childhood friends :) eventually they go into space together just like they wanted! it’s bad! die in the wormhole and i think thats the first time they ever truly, from the bottom of their heart, regret everything. never want to fall in love again.

14) sol (no pronouns whenever possible but sort of ok w/they, peace ending, farmer) warning for abuse mentions in this one as well

sometimes you get so badly abused in one life your next life it still affects you! kind of an odd child, gets along better w/congruence than the other kids but thinks of cal is like a brother. doing ok until helios lands and then it’s like. h

avoids vace like the plague, despises/is afraid of him but doesn’t realize why until after sol starts understanding dreams more. when he dies i think sol wants to be like Good Riddance but. cant fully. approaches rex bc sol want to know What’s Up With The Whole Rex+Vace Deal, end up falling pretty hard. dating sym also, the three of them living together is an Experience i think. dies full of Love.

15) solana (he/him tguy, peace end, athlete)

rambunctious! cheerful! kind of dumb! falls in love w/cal from a young age and is convinced they’re gonna grow up and get married and is subsequently crushed when cal starts dating tammy instead esp bc. cal sort of. lead them on a bit w/it. slowly falls in love w/dys in the aftermath.

a bit immature. plays sportsball even in the middle of war, tension with both cal And nem as a result despite still being their bffs. he and nem are on opposite sportsball teams for the rest of their lives and yet go out for drinks after constantly. she’s his sister, basically! dies pretty happy w/how things turned out

16) solanaceae (she/they, neutral end, merchant)

greedy greedy greedy. wants money and love and attention, time and people and things, everyhting you can think of she wants it. she marz and tang are the Terrible WLW Trio of Girls Who Might Be Dating. bit of a soft spot for dys she can’t quite rationalize, will be kind to him when she’s not to anyone else. fond of rex as well.

she and marz flirt by flirting with tang, aka the person she Actually likes. pretty happy when they finally hook up, but isn’t devastated by the breakup as much as she is.... left hollow. another mistake on top of everyhting else (capitalism, dys vanishing, girl shes liked forever dumping her, also theres maybe a fleet from earth coming but haha dw abt it) she tells rex abt the fleet maybe a year? before it shows up. dies wishing desperately she had been able to be kinder.

17) solana (he/him tguy, peace end, professor) x

sugary sweet! childhood friends with tammy, they’re v similar people. loves her a lot, cannot wait to be best man at her wedding to cal LOL. despite his gentle demeanor he is also absolutely the kind of guy to do Whatever It Takes for the ppl he loves (ie poisons uncle tonin to keep him alive LOL)

thinks nomi is like, the coolest person in the universe when they meet bc they can MAKE things. so so stupid about them. when they start dating its embarrassing for everyone but they are so happy together no one can actually say anything. dies happy but wishing he was more confident in himself/brave

i have a very nice liliava scene on my college au. on their second year, students have to choose between three mediums to study for the next 3 years. beatrice, ava, n lilith all chose painting (which is the one i chose irl btw!! this au is based on my experiences in my uni). this is fine for bea n ava who have a slow but growing friendship. lilith n ava however cant seem to get along too well, since lilith is very standoffish n cant stand ava’s carefree attitude towards her uni work.

lilith is serious. she comes from a successful family of painters, very rich and very strict. lilith actually does like painting, always has even before knowing her family business, but it turns from a hobby to a duty the moment she can speak. she needs to be a painter, she needs to master in arts, if not painting then maybe sculpture, none of that modern contemporary nonsense, the classier the better. lilith goes to the same art college her parents went to, which is in porto, potugal. the teaching is sufficient and the curriculum is acceptable, n so both parents aim for lilith to go to this uni n then master in painting in another country, possible in paris or italy, depending on how well lilith does with this one. 

lilith is cold, objective, and solely focused on her work. shes intense but manages to hide it well from the teachers as to not scare them off. she doesnt care for the students tho, they can think whatever they want. she knows who she is and who she is going to be. none of them can compare to her and this is just fact.

ava, however, only went to portugal since its her hometown n she thought it’d be sweet to study art there. shes carefree, and she goes with the flow. doesnt have grand plans, just wants to learn all abt art and meet new people and go out, live her life. lilith doesnt get that, cant get that, n so they clash n fight a lot. they have drawing class together and it is painful for everyone involved.

they do share on moment of peace during their first year drawing class, but it is brief. the moment i want to talk abt is in their second year, painting class.

their painting classroom, an atelier, is open at all times, even at saturday. ava was catching up on one painting while some classmates were hanging out n making a LOT of noise. she was kinda fed up, but just focused on finishing the painting. she takes a lil break, gets up, walks around n checks out the other’s paintings. she sits pretty close to the door, so when her classmates runs off out the door, they clash with her easel, and the painting crashes on the floor. all ava’s prayers of it being unscathed are not answered. while it fell, it scrapped along a lil table where she keeps her supplies, one everyone has, and now her painting has a long wide stroke of paint all over it. hours of work, gone. paint wasted, hours wasted. 

ava tries to remain calm n positive. she does not want to have a fainting spell or worse cry in a place any of her classmates can walk into. she puts the painting back in place and thats when she cries. she has the sudden urge to just rip it out, destroy it, n that just makes both her arms tingle n go numb, so now she’s upset abt that. she also can’t breathe properly n she’s sobbing quite loudly, sat on her stool, head on her knees, arms pathetically dead on either side of her, unmoving. thats when lilith walks in.

now. lilith isn’t actually heartless. she just doesnt have time for friendships built on actual love n care n shit, that shit doesnt help. but... as she gingerly walks in and circles around to look at ava, shes confused n a lil bit concerned. then she looks up n sees the painting and audibly gasps. ava looks up, sees lilith, they make eye contact, n lilith watches ava’s already red, blotchy, swollen, tear riddled face crumple n sob even harder. ava is so embarrassed she wants to disappear. apparently that means she has to faint so she tries to warn lilith but lilith just ends up with an armful of semi conscious ava. lilith is fucking panicking, ava is disgusting n limp n a mess and its only 11 am on a wednesday she didnt ask for this. 

still, smth in her snaps n she puts on her best soothing voice (aka beatrice voice) n tries to calm ava down (aka acting like beatrice). it doesnt work, it only makes ava more confused so she just curses n says “for fucks sake dont faint please, i’ll help you fix it. cant do it with u out like a light now can i”. that manages to calm ava down. after some breathing exercises, and some weird awkward head petting, ava is fine. mostly. 

they both look at the mess of a painting n ava just half screams half sighs n goes “welp!” with fake cheerfulness. that bugs lilith for reasons yet unknown, but she does help them both up n does damage control. “we’ll tell the teacher, hes reasonable n for all ur faults u are a very fast painter so. it’ll be fine. we just wipe off what we can n then... well maybe you should not touch it for a bit. yknow. distance yourself from it. or whatever” 

its the first time ava sees lilith so painfully awkward but earnest, making zero eye contact, but nodding seriously to the painting as if it was her own problem n not ava’s. lilith cares. for ava. and even tho her face is still very wet, she’s smiling so wide right now. it will be okay. it’s fine. she’s got this (we got this).

anyway im just in my karlnapity feels cause all these guys are messed up so here is my take on sapnaps point of view hope you like it :D

some of the things here might be outdated i started this a while ago so if its not super accurate now sorryyyy

i didn’t include anything abt the dream and quackity situation or whatever cause i don’t think sap is aware and this is from his pov (basically im not excusing nor condemning anyones actions regarding that cause sapnap just doesn’t know) Also i say sapnap and punz are siblings even though canonically they are not just cause the wiki says their relationship has been described as brotherly and ik a lot of people like that hc (also sap is not so heartbroken sad boy all the time but thats what im focusing on today :D)

Sapnap felt so utterly, and horribly alone

Dream was in prison. His childhood best friend, the one who’d been by his side since the beginning, who he had chased through the forest, laughed with as they teased George, and fought side by side with even when he didn’t quite understand the battle, was behind bars for so many crimes Sapnap couldn’t list them all if he tried. He didn’t know when Dream had changed but the difference was clear. The man behind the lava wall didn’t care for anyone anymore, only power. Dream wasn’t more than a husk of the rambunctious friend Sapnap once held dear.

George took Dreams betrayal harder than any of them, and now he barely stepped out of bed(not that he really did before). You could only find him in about 3 places: the library, his room, or outside the prison never to step in. In each place he stared blankly. Staring at the rows of shelves. Staring at his blankets. Staring at the blackstone walls. Conversation with him was little to none, and Sapnap wasn’t even going to mention the floating cloaked horror with a million hands and eyes that followed George like a puppy

Bad, his father, the sweetest demon you’d ever meet who took him and trained him and cared for him better than some of the biological fathers on the server, was under the control of the Crimson. The Egg. The Egg had taken over Sapnaps home and forced him to move away, The Egg had corrupted his sibling and now punz was cold hearted and chaotic, The Egg had taken away their dad.

Karls predicament was getting worse and Sapnap didn’t know what to do. At first it was forgetting the groceries. Then it was there was that one time Karl called him by the wrong name which brought up a whole other set of questions. Karl would disappear for hours, days, whole weeks, maybe months, and would return shaken, really shaken. The kind of shaken that led to tears streaming down his face, hastily wiped away. The kind of shaken that caused nightmares and panic inducing flashbacks and memory loss and a feeble attempt by Karl to remain his usual peppy self. Sapnap wanted to help so badly because he hated seeing Karl suffer and not being able to do anything about it but no one could tell him how. Sapnap was terrified he would see the day Karls sweet voice would ask ‘sorry, who are you?’

Quackity started disappearing a while ago too. He said he was working on a surprise. Great, Sapnap didn’t mind surprises. He said he was creating something of his own. Great, Quackity had been pushed to the side too much, he deserved something of his own. Sapnap thought that El Rapids would be enough but if Q had his own plans thats fine. Even though Q had been acting kinda distant or strange Sapnap is in full support of his fiance, as long as he keeps in touch! Quackity didn’t keep in touch. He was gone without another word. Sapnap and Karl had to move away from the blood vines, so they founded Kinoko with George. Quackity was invited but their ‘loyal fiancé’ never showed. Sapnap knew he should check on the man but if Quackity didn’t want to be with them anymore that was on him. he just wished Q had the guts to tell it to his face instead of leaving him clueless and heartbroken in the dust just like everyone always has.

And all Sapnap could do was watch as the world around him crumbled

more scattered trek thoughts abt other episodes ive seen since my last dump too help girl

1. forewarning i ramble for ten minutes abt this topic as a run up to like. what is ultimately commentary on absolute mediocrity. but like- listen, i really do HATE trek episodes where, like... there's a one off love interest for the episode, and thats the plot.

like don't get me wrong? there might be some exceptions that i cant quite think, off the top of my head- and for the most part, im not talking abt episodes where they re-encounter an old love interest (like rejoined) even if they havent been mentioned before or sth BUT... overwhelmingly yeah. yeah i just think they mostly all fucking suck.

like i just dont think it works - always trying to rush a romance, insist that theyre significantly in love, under an hour. bc even if there could be any chemistry (after all there's plenty of instances where characters DO have chemistry with one time appearances) any of it is shot and any depth seems to be brushed over for like. overtures of like canned romance bc they want to make it as explicit as possible but they really cant do it efficiently and icly enough in the time frame and this and that and this and that..

like the one absolutely perfect instance of it all going wrong was meridian, where i think jadzia and that guy COULD have had plenty of chemistry with that guy and there's ways that plot could have WORKED but they spent their time doing really superficial performances of romance to show that they like each other rather than actually developing an actual working dynamic between the characters. like i think if you made that episode could have been really cool (its a cool fucking idea) but focussed less on that, and more on the actual story... actually BUILD them and the situation.... whilst i dont think you'd get to "theyre in love<3" you could form a sincere and heartfelt bond between them, when it came to the inevitable tragedy at the end.

like if you had her work with this scientist for the whole ep trying desperately to find a way to save this planet from its fate of disappearing, and really played into that tragedy - and hell, even if you DID have jadzia try to stay there, like she tries in the actual episode... there's ways you could work that into the plot, have her still try to make that sacrifice and fail and like. have her recognise that guy and that planet for what is going to be lost- that just feels way more sincere than what they tried to do, and again thats like... thats really what feels like is the problem with so much of the one ep romances, bc it like also just ROBS them of their actual personality to make it fit the confines of a script and just reduces them to these stock charcters with no heart and its so meaningless and it ultimately. really does not therefore express anything about anyone-

however. and this is a big however. literally ALL of this being said... there are one or two instances where i feel like it does work - and thats specifically when it either: 1) is exploring a concept in of itself (the host from tng comes to mind) but thats so rare, in my opinion; OR... when it does actually make sense to explore how a character in particular might navigate relationships and it being more of an exploration of that than the actual romance itself, and that lends itself best to first time instances and stuff i feel like.

In Theory for example from tng works i do feel like. like that relationship between data and uhhh. idk what her name is. but yeah that was never supposed to work out in the time frame and they were both misguided in it. and it was moreso a demonstration of how data would act in that sort of situation - how typical romance is not at all typical for him...

... and hm. thats where all this run up comes to. bc yeha. odo is literally one of those cases.

because i did not HATE A Simple Investigation, by token of it clearly... at least having a purpose, i feel like, and it being more meaningful than what Meridian was? or any of the weird one off romance eps. like it makes sense to try and have some insight into odo and relationships and whilst i jsut... i feel like it could have been better, could have been done way better, and by god i never want to see half naked odo again-

FIRST of all. i dont mind kira having background love interests. but i sort of... im frustrated, i guess. bc on one hand im fine with that in theory, sort of? like im fineish with cassidy, for example- this idea of bg romances is not something im against, and of very minor characters existing here and there, because cassidy isnt at all characterised ONLY by her relationship to sisko and theyre both separate and very independent characters and it does make sense that she can just... sort of be in the background, and she is very separate in the sense of like she really isnt tied up in much else - but ive expressed my irritation over how they keep doing keiko dirty bc it feels wrong to relegate her to bg status when they centre so much of miles' character on how he's the married guy and .....

MY POINT is. i dont really get it with kira at all bc its like her guys just sort of disappear and get forgotten about. and i feel like its porbably... potentially like more of a logistics thing maybe of what they can and cant do i do sometimes get that vibe. but like also like. there was a period where i genuinely thought she had broken up with shakaar and god confused when they mentioned him again. and the other thing is- YES bareil and shakaar were both, like, separate, but also... they were set up as important bajoran figures?? who just?? eventually did NOTHING and i think that also plays into my own irritation about like. them not doing ENOUGH with bajor itself especially not any more like it feels like such a sad thing to keep pushing aside- and i really miss some of the smaller time politics of the earlier seasons in that regard, bc whilst the show has definitely overall improved so much yeah. yeah yeah i dont think thats sth we had to lose, you know? like there's so much focus elsewhere now we kinda. forget abt the actual setup here-

AND IM GETTING AWAY FROM MYSELF. i just feel like a lot of kira's love interests have just been set up to mean something and then they just waste them and then write them out when they realise they exist again and its frustrating in many regards esp bc it just serves to do nothing, except... act as a roadblock for odo i guess? but the relationships are so unsubstantial- that attempting to do this whole "oh poor guy, she's with someone else" just... feels sort of irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, bc the guys themselves are well. respectfully irrelevant, as the show writes them to be

and idk. i was sort of fine with kira/odo happening even if i dont think they work as a couple at all. like i said: weird shipper mentality does sort of flatten out so many dynamics sometimes, lord, bc i dont at all ship them but like... like i HAVE said think at some point they could have realised a relationship, and had some sort of exploration there. and i think thats sort of PERHAPS part of what made this ep fall a little short for me because i feel like... it had its potential, but a more extended exploration with kira/odo would have made more sense with what they have been implying.

(and for the record: thats not me saying i prefer kira/odo as a narrative choice. i think odo having a single episode dedicated to him trying to figure out what humanoid relationships are to him in particular is enough to touch on it, honestly? but again- theyve been laying this groundwork and so in the context of the show its like... yeah)

and so now it feels a little redundant to go BACK to kira/odo now, especially when like.. what? it was put on the back burner for like well over a season now, i honestly thought they were just dropping it. and so now overall im just not so sure if i still want it to go ahead but i feel like it will and i feel like... its just going through the motions of a romance, which is absolutely the last thing i wanted between them -_- bc like i said i dont at all think they shoudl be like this "endgame" thing thats built up over the whole show. like ive said before: i think it makes sense for them to end up together in an incidental way before realising their actual feelings, that it doesnt work and then parting, both better off and grown people ... that sort of relationship where you both kinda cheirsh the time even if it didnt work out like that and they realise theyre just besties

anyways. i think thats all i had to say but theres sth else on the tip of my tongue ahrgh i'll realise it later except when i do i wont even say it help girl...

2. on an actually very similar note, though, im thinking of worf and jadzia.

theres some parts of their executino that does... rub me the wrong way a LITTLE bit? its strange. it does make me think of VERY early (like tng era) miles/keiko sometimes. bc here's the thing: i LIKE that they have friction. both of those couples. miles and keiko especially recently in ds9... the very natural compromises you have to make as two separate people in a longterm relationship? yeah its nice to explore it, you know. the o'briens in general are genuinely a nice quality to have in a show like trek- grounding in their own way. anyways. however there were some instances with keiko/miles early on, as there sometimes are with worf/jadzia that just make me go... eeepkffj ahrhg.

and its hard to point at it specifically. bc like i said im fine with them clashing a little. but theres just these instances where its just... ever so slightly off and wrong and it feels a bit too much of something, and it lacks a little subtlty at times. i mean truthfully keiko/miles were WAY worse when they were first introduced (i thought the drama in data's day just didnt really make that much sense, nor did their few appearances in tng) but yeah hmmm.

either way. ultimately- yeah i really do actually like them together but also. especially in terms of what it gives both the characters.

like, i think... THE THING IS I REALLY LOVE JADZIA, and dax in particular is such a good concept that has a lot of inherent depth to it in of itself. not to be annoying but its very timelordesque<3 and it rocks- i feel like trills dw, with the way its written, neever gets to properly explore the idea of identity across regenerations the way trills can. BUT there was some more... personable qualities to jadzia that felt a little unrealised? that really are coming out more, with how she is with worf. like we get to see HER.

one issue we did have a lot with jadzia in the beginning, for example, was a lot of the dax-centric eps to begin with werent really about HER and her own perspective but the concept of her. which is fine but yeah it does feel very impersonal and i think whilst it made me really LOVE her it didnt make me LIKE her if that makes any sense whatsoever. and that did get better over time! we got to see more of our lovely jadzia- but she still hasn't had... that much of an arc herself? and so now she has worf... yeah, its nice to see her really being explored herself bcespecially putting her with another character in particular GIVES you moments of conversation and action to facilitate getting to know her

and with worf. my god. ok im still not a total fan of klingon episodes. but can i say? HAVING JADZIA ACCOMPANY WORF ON KLINGON STORIES, IS A BILLION TIMES BETTER THAN BLOODY PICARD. sorry- sorry1!! sSORRY? listen im harsh on picard a lot (is it me being slightly obstinate, yes, i dont think hes that bad- but im compensating for the fanboys who blow smoke up his ass<3) but for real he genuinely was so out of place in klingon stories when he was there. like he made no sense in the plot and it was always those instances where like... he was literally just hanging around, everyone else was moving it forward and then he'd come in at the end and finish it and for what point? for what purpose? like it wasnt your conclusion to make, bestie.... this wasnt your narrative but i guess uh. go ahead ?

anyways. jadzia makes more sense. a better dynamic with worf. actual connections to klingons in general. and she can still sort of serve as a tool for exposition, like picard did, but it can be more subtle or at the very least make more sense. and bc of all of this- she can actually get involved in the story? and be an actual integral part of the plot? which helps the klingon eps go down a little easier, for me. i still find them a little too detached in a way im not fond of but... YEAH. and whilst im still not entirely sure about worf's presence on the show for himself (? i just feel like... theres not TOO many places he, as a character, can go in this environment with it being interesting and stuff) yeah you know sure <2 hi worf and IM SLOWLY BURNING MYSELF OUT WITH THIS RAMBLING

and hanamaki is like okay fine But im wearing my warding pendent and matsukawa is like WHEN WILL U ADMIT YOU’RE A WITCH and hanamaki, mid-putting on his witch hat, ruffles his hair and says idk what ur talking about

they camp out and they’re just bantering and its cute and fun for 2 hours then

matsun hears growling and snapping noises and he’s like hanamaki stay in the fuckin tent 

and obviously hanamaki is like on god that is the stupidest thing uve ever said issei no

 and matsukawa steps outside and he holds a hand back to stop makki and he steps out and looks around, eyes narrows
