I saw someone say they dislike the way Meruem and Komugi’s arc ended because it felt like she got the short end of the stick dying there. And while yes, she had the opportunity to get out alive… can you really blame her for choosing not to?
Both Meruem and Komugi were utterly devoid of happiness before meeting each other. They were only alive for one purpose, and dedicated themselves entirely to it. But that didn’t fulfill them, it just busied their minds enough to distract them from how empty they truly were.
But then they met, and finally there was a connection to someone. They learned that life was more than their purpose. That they could share it with each other. Could love.
Komugi learned she wasn’t a burden. She found a match just as competitive and smart as her. Someone who showed respect and genuine interest in her as a person for what seems to be the first time in her life. Someone who she played with for days and days and both clearly enjoyed it.
She was happy for the first time.
Is it any wonder she didn’t want to let her happiness go?
