Friday Sports Beat

Fred VanVleet scored a series best 22 points of the bench last night, helping the Toronto Raptors claim their first ever NBA Championship with a 114-110 win over Gold State.  The Raptors won the series four-games-to-two. VanVleet becomes the fourth Wichita State Shocker to win an NBA Title, and the first since Cliff Livingston won back-to-back crowns with Chicago in 1991 and 1992.

 Cheney claimed an extra innings walk-off win over Hutch last night in Sunflower League Baseball. Ramon Vingochea came up with the bases load hit that earned the Diamond Dawgs a 10-9 win in 11 innings. The Monarchs after winning five-straight, have now lost two-in-a-row. The same two teams play again tonight at 7:00 at Hobart-Detter.

 Elsewhere, Wichita blanked Great Bend 6-0. Haysville edged Derby 3-2. El Dorado won 6-5 over Netwon.

 In the Kansas Collegiate League last night, Doge City defeated McPherson 13-7. The A’s scored runs in every inning but the fifth. Grant Plunkett and Frank Yackovich combined to drive in 4 of the Pipeliners’ 7 runs. The same two teams play again in Dodge City tonight at 7:30.

 Haven Wildcat basketball senior Faith Paramore announced via Twitter yesterday her commitment to play basketball at Oral Roberts University as part of the class of 2020. As a junior this past season, Paramore was a unanimous first-team selection in the Central Kansas League. She helped leader her team to a third-place finish at 3A State in 2018.
