Hunter or Hunted. Ch.4

I continued down the road as quickly and safely as I could. ‘The last thing I need to do right now is run into something and make this into a horror film’ I thought to myself whilst giggling nervously.

Lights in the distance started to glow over the tree tops, “please be street lights” I pleaded out loud whilst clutching the steering wheel harder.

I could see a road appearing so I attempted to slow down just a little. There were only two directions.. left or right.

Once I hit the road, I stopped for a short while to check for any signs. None. ‘Not a good sign’ I giggled.

“Okay, just pick a direction” i said.... but I couldn’t make a decision.

The glare of head lights caught my eye in the revision mirror. “Oh.. “ I flustered, took off. “Well... at least I made a decision!” I screamed whilst I drifted the car to the left.

The street lights begin moving faster and faster, I look down at the speedometer and realise that I’m doing 150km/hr. There are no side streets, just the open highway in front of me. I glance back to see no cars in sight. I calm myself, okay. “Just take the next turn off and ask for help” I reassured myself. Returning to a safer speed, I spotted a side street only a few hundred metres away. Glanced behind me to check there was no cars and let out a sigh of relief. Nothing.

I slowed to turned into the side street. The trees streamed past me in glances of colours. The sun was slowly making its way over the horizon. Just enough to be able to turn off my head lights.

“Oh thank you, thank you, thank you” I pleaded to myself.

I slowed to make sure I could safely make more traction on the dirt road. As the trees opened up, the sun glistened over the front of a beautiful house. It stood tall against the bed of flowers and fauna.

Something felt wrong. Very wrong, but I was desperate, I needed help. I slowed to a stop at the edge of the front porch.

Suddenly I was hit with the sudden realisation.. I had been here before. I had only just taken a different drive way in. “FUCK, oh fuck, oh fuck” I exclaimed whilst slamming the gear stick into reverse. I took a quick look behind me, to only stare at the mirror in horror.

There she was. Standing right behind the car. Staring straight at me. She knew it was me.

My head fell back against the head rest whilst tears cascaded down my cheeks. I let out in a whisper “no.. oh please. No”
