Marceline’s relationship with her father is so interesting. I think she isn’t afraid of him fucking her up again so much as she hates that she knows he can be loving. He has the potential to be good to her and he just Isn’t. He’s Bad And Awful to her and she knows that.

I think when someone has been treated badly by someone they love for so long, being treated with love and kindness by that person can be scarier than being thrown aside like garbage. Really feel like this is what Marcie feels about her father in the context of Adventure Time, because she clearly still trusts him and loves him despite him being just so awful.

I think Hunson stealing her fries is an important scene as well. Marceline uses music as an emotional outlet, something to do when she wants to get out her ugly feels but keep the vibe going. Her writing a song about Hunson stealing her fries is important because she clearly was upset enough about this that she felt compelled to use this coping mechanism she’s developed even after all those years. The lyrics stick out to me particularly because it clues viewers in to exactly how Marcie feels about her and her father’s relationship.

In the second half of the song she says “Daddy, do you even love me? Well, I wish you’d show it, ‘cause I wouldn’t know it” which is just So Incredibly Heartbreaking. She clearly WANTS her father’s love but she doesn’t know if he wants to love HER. He’s clearly not great at showing his affection for his own daughter, and when he tries he just ruins things for her because he does what he wants instead of what she wants. It’s why she was trying to not to let him know about her concert. It’s why she tells him he ruins everything, because he literally does.

Hunson also seems completely unaware of WHY she dislikes him, even after we see him destroy her makeshift house as a child and steal the fries she got for herself.

Circling back to the fries scene, the important takeaway isn’t that she was upset about the fries, it’s that she saw her father for who he really is. Someone who would steal from her, take what was hers, and somehow make her feel bad about it. Maybe that’s not exactly what she saw here, but this scene clearly affected her enough to leave behind a lot of bad memories later on in life that she later turned into a song.

Idk, this is just how I feel about it. I think I got a little redundant here and there but it probably all makes coherent sense.

Also thinking about how she’s the only one in ooo who remembers what is was like to be a human before the mushroom war

Also thinking about how music is Marceline’s entire life because her mom and then Simon and then the human survivors all taught her songs to get her through hard times when she was a kid/mortal and so now whenever she doesn’t know what to do she plays a song

Also how Simon sang the cheers theme to stop himself from forgetting when he put the crown on and ice king still remembers the song he sang to Marceline in the dark cloud

This is just my headcanon 😭😭.

Marceline's scrap book describes them to be in love and I am a sucker for some kinda beauty and the beast trope so yeh.

And I headcanon this to be why Hudson wasn't there.
