Rearviewmirror (Rock Version)

We went 2 Seattle 2 play a show & sometime before then we were invited 2 Pearl Jam’s practice space. Eddie Vedder happened 2 b leaning up against the wall & there was a vacant drum kit, electric & bass guitar staring in front of us. Having never attempted the song before, we decided 2 launch into “Rearviewmirror”, Dennis behind the drums, myself on electric & Damian Strigens on Bass. After we finished, Eddie told Dennis that Pearl Jam were releasing a single soon, “Immortality” & he would like us 2 do a cover of “Rearviewmirror” on the flip B side. Once we arrived back in Milwaukee, a week or 2 had passed & Eddie let Dennis know that Sony needed the song. This rock version was our 1st attempt at the song. Dennis wanting 2 do a different new version, we recorded at 2:30 a.m., an acoustic version, with the clock on our backs having 2 turn in the finished product (song) in a day’s time. Dennis sang through his Fisher Price microphone announcing, “Scorcese’s Rearviewmirror”, I worked out the 5 finger picking pattern along with some E-Bow overdubs, Dennis adding vocal harmonies. Dennis called EV played it 2 Eddie over the phone, he loved it & thought it was beautiful. That became the flip B-side of Pearl Jam’s single.

Chicago radio disc jockey Mark “Mancow” Mueller had us on his show. During the time of the “Starjob” EP release, Billy Corgan played bass on air with us with a black wig & “Mancow” & his crew were big fans of Dennis’ old man voice. So Dennis would do some voice spots here & there & also composed & played all the instruments on this theme song that was written exclusively 4 & played on the show.
